I feel like Alice Longbottom loved her short hair and Augusta insisted that a pixie cut wouldn’t look good with a wedding dress but Alice never listened. When they were admitted to St. Mungo’s, Alice’s hair grew, no one touched it. What difference did it make if it was long or short, she wouldn’t realise. Around the time Neville was old enough to remember his visits to his parents, Augusta went a day before and talked to Alice, softly, sincerely and she asked her if she could cut her hair. Alice didn’t reply but didn’t fight either.
“I know this is how you would have wanted Neville to see you,” she said as she softly brushed Alice’s hair to the side and she started cutting, Alice stared in the distance, aware of her hair falling but giving no reaction whatsoever.
After Augusta was done, she cleaned room with a lazy move of her hand and after she kissed Frank on his pale forehead, she softly brushed her hand on Alice’s shoulder.
“Alice dear, see you tomorrow,” she said with a smile and she could swear she saw Alice’s lip curl up as if she wanted to smile but Augusta shook her head and left because it was impossible.
But for one moment, Augusta felt like it was the day her son got married and the white dress on Alice wasn’t a piece of cloth given by the hospital but it was a wedding dress, she felt her eyes burn but she pushed her shoulders back, lifted her chin up and walked out of the closed ward hoping for once, Alice felt somehow that she was more than enough and pixie cut looked good on her.
Augusta laughed faintly at the thought of how Alice would have snickered if she heard Augusta say pixie cut suited her and slid into the closest Floo.
Visitors to the Department of Magical Law Enforcement (DMLE) on Level 2 of MoM’s Whitehall office will find that security is high here, even more so than in the spell-ridden lobby. This itself is unsurprising. However, one is soon distracted – even from the self-directed probity probes – by the large portraits that line all major corridors.
MLE officers who have fallen in battle stare out at the visitors as they pass, some of them friendly and some less so. They do not move in and out of their frames, as is usually the case, but stay in their frames and keep a watchful eye on the Department.
While the subjects often chat with each other as officers pass by, visitors are treated to the intimidating experience of their falling silence, and the piercing gaze of witches and wizards who have given their lives to defeat evil. Each portrait features a quote from its subject on the fight against dark magic.
Evil will not prevail for long. Good will have the last word. (Kingsley Shacklebolt, 1960-2022)
Dark wizards want to sow fear, uncertainty, and division among us. They will not succeed.(Frank Longbottom, 1957-2020)
There is nothing they can do to us that will break our spirits or erase what we have done, and will continue to do, for each other. (Alice Longbottom, 1958-2020)
Voldemort is a coward. It takes guts to be kind.(Nymphadora Tonks, 1973-1998)
Does anyone ever think about how Alice and Lily were pregnant at the same time and how they’d force Frank and James to read baby books and how Frank and James would be complete messes and swap books and pregnant wife horror stories? Cause I do.
Headcannon: Arthur Weasley and Frank Longbottom are first cousins through their mothers, Cedrella and Callidora (née Black). Neville spends his childhood summers with his cousins, the Weasleys, and gets to experience what it’s like to belong to a family.
Sometimes I think about the fact that, lacking the ability to curse, as his mouth was full of his own blood, Neville Longbottom jabbed a Death Eater in the fucking eye at fifteen years old, and I’m 80000000% sure his auror parents would be like THAT’S MY BOY!!!!! if they could see it because he is metal as fuck.
