Let's Go Crazy and Buy Prince's "Purple Rain" House
This for-sale house at 3420 Snelling Ave in Minneapolis, Minnesota played a key role in ‘Purple Rain.’ (Zillow)

Dig if you will the picture of a quaint historic house in Minnesota. Look familiar? This is the house that “The Kid,” Prince’s character in the 1984 rock musical Purple Rain, called home. And now it could be yours! (Purple motorcycle not included.)

Built in 1913, the three-bedroom home in South Minneapolis has just gone on the market for the bargain price of $110,000. It does require renovations; a look at the listing reveals that the floors, walls, kitchen, and bathrooms could definitely use some TLC. On the plus side, the house has some pretty woodwork, and it’s less than an hour from Lake Minnetonka — you know, in case you need to purify yourself in the waters.

Purple Rain tells the story of a self-destructive musician trying to put his demons to rest and make it as a rock star. The semi-autobiographical film marked Prince’s big-screen debut, and was shot on location in his hometown of Minneapolis. While Purple Rain did well at the box office, its soundtrack was a phenomenon, spending a remarkable 24 weeks on top of the Billboard charts and spawning five Top 40 hits (including “When Doves Cry,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” and “Purple Rain”).

Other recent movie homes to go on the market include the California mountain lodge from The Bodyguard, the Long Island mansion from The Money Pit, and the Hamptons beach house from Something’s Gotta Give. Unlike those multi-million-dollar luxury retreats, the Purple Rain house is a pretty basic suburban dwelling — but given its rock-and-roll pedigree, you can’t beat the price.

Rizqi, anak buruh lepas jadi polisi tanpa uang sogokan

MERDEKA.COM.

Bermodal uang tabungan selama bekerja, Rizqi lantas mendaftar menjadi polisi. Uang tabungan dipakai membeli sepeda motor buat transportasi selama pendaftaran.

4 Finance Stocks to Capitalize on the Strong Q2 Earnings Trend - Earnings ESP

The Q2 earnings season so far has failed to add adequate fuel to the fire of optimistic sentiments that were sparked by the Fed’s assurance of a rate hike later this year. This does not come as a surprise though. The strengthening dollar and pressing global issues were anticipated to make an impression on Q2 earnings reports. Expectedly, the U.S. companies with more international exposure are reporting soft numbers relative to those inclined domestically, making the growth graph volatile.

A Glimpse into Q2 Earnings So Far

As of Jul 24, more than a thousand companies have reported results (including over 186 S&P 500 members) and overall earnings have reflected a mixed picture. Total earnings for these companies are up 3.6% on 0.9% revenue gains, with 73.3% beating EPS estimates and 50.8% coming ahead of revenue expectations. However, despite the mega beats, the S&P 500 index has increased only marginally so far this month.

At the sector level, Medical, Consumer Discretionary and Basic Materials succeeded in grabbing the top spots with relatively higher number of companies in these sectors beating earnings estimates. On the other hand, Industrial Products, Aerospace and Oil/Energy emerged as the sore spots, dragging the growth meter down.

Finance – A Knight in Shining Armor?

Surprisingly, the Finance sector has displayed tremendous improvement on the back of fewer litigation charges, effective cost-control measures and modest progress in core business lines. Total earnings for 63.4% finance companies in the S&P 500 universe that have reported so far are up 8.7% on 1.0% revenue gains, with 69.8% beating EPS estimates and 60.5% coming ahead of top-line expectations.

Despite a very unsupportive interest rate backdrop, the banking behemoths came up with better-than-expected results, which lifted the performance of the entire Finance sector. The performance level set by plenty of bellwethers from this sector is expected to be carried forward by the firms about to report in the coming weeks.

How to Select Potential Winners?

With the overall scenario in the Finance sector appearing slightly optimistic, one could look at stocks that have the potential to beat earnings estimates in their upcoming releases. An earnings beat should raise investors’ confidence in these stocks, leading to rapid price appreciation.

Selecting stocks with earnings beat potential could be quite difficult a task unless one knows the right method. One way of doing so is by choosing stocks that have the combination of a favorable Zacks Rank – Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), #2 (Buy) or #3 (Hold) – and a positive Earnings ESP.

Earnings ESP is our proprietary methodology for identifying stocks that have the best chance to surprise with their upcoming earnings announcements. It shows the percentage difference between the Most Accurate estimate and the Zacks Consensus Estimate. Our research shows that for stocks with this combination, chances of a positive earnings surprise are as high as 70%.

Here are 4 finance stocks that have the right combination of elements to deliver an earnings beat when they release their results:

This New Jersey-based company, which operates as the holding company for Investors Savings Bank and provides a range of banking services in the U.S., is scheduled to report results after the market closes on Jul 30.

Apple's Stock May Be Falling, But Most Analysts Leave Their Outlook Unchanged

Apple Inc. reported solid June quarterly earnings Tuesday, with results beating estimates in every major category tracked by Bloomberg. The company’s EPS of $1.85 per share beat consensus by 4 cents, its $49.6 billion revenue was $250 million above estimates, and gross margin was slightly above expectations. Still that wasn’t enough to stop Apple’s shares from falling as much as 5.8 percent on Wednesday.

In contrast, reaction from Wall Street analysts was largely muted, as most kept their ratings on the company steady.

Of the 13 analysts whose notes were examined for this article, only one downgraded their rating: Timothy Arcuri at Cowen and Company. Arcuri’s report cited concerns in international markets like China and sales which are not as strong compared with previous iterations of the iPhone.

Shares were down 4.7 percent as of 10:43 a.m. in New York, presumably due to lower-than-expected iPhone sales and less-than-exuberant results compared with previous periods. Apple sold 47.5 million iPhones in the June quarter, below consensus analyst estimates of about 50 million units. IPhone sales comprised 70 percent of total sales in the March quarter this year, representing a greater proportion of revenue than same period a year before, when it made up 57 percent.

Most analysts emphasized little meaningful downside in Apple while remaining optimistic about growth prospects in the company’s service sales and products in the next few years. Apple did not release how many watches it sold for the June quarter, but Goldman Sachs Analyst Bill Shope said that it likely shipped 2.5 million, far below his prior estimate of 3.4 million.

For now, though, most analysts remain focused on iPhone sales. The June quarter probably marked the last full quarter of the iPhone 6/6+, and expectations are that the newest iteration–the 6s–will be released sometime in the fall.

In summary, the earnings release fell short of high hopes but came in-line with the Street’s expectations.

Here’s a roundup of what they’re saying:

Goldman Sachs’ Bill Shope

Overall, this was a slightly better-than-expected quarter …Given the revenue, iPhone unit and EPS upside seen in the past two quarters, investors were likely looking for sharper upside.

Cowen and Company’s Timothy Arcuri

With a tepid iPhone number amid mounting China demand concerns and supply-side field work suggesting new iPhone builds are down cycle/cycle for the first time, we are downgrading AAPL from Outperform to Market Perform…for now, iPhone is still the key.

Wells Fargo’s Maynard Um

In a vacuum, Apple’s results were good, particularly when accounting for the potential impact higher pricing due to currency may have had on units. However, relative to expectations, results and guidance were disappointing, particularly with respect to iPhone units…

Morgan Stanley’s Katy Huberty

[The] iPhone expectation miss helps de-risk 2H15. iPhone revenue growth accelerated, as did growth in Greater China, Japan and Europe in the quarter, suggesting demand remains strong despite volatile currency and equity markets during the period.

Jefferies’ Sundeep Bajikar

…results and guidance missed higher buy-side expectations. Our checks…continue to suggest Apple is benefiting from brand power, which might be stealing focus from otherwise technology/value-driven consumer purchasing decisions, particularly in China. We could become more constructive with higher confidence in the sustainability of brand power.

Raymond James’ Tavis McCourt

It is hard to call anything bad or ugly this quarter, but coming off some truly exceptional quarters in December and March, June was clearly less ebullient…management went out of their way to talk about GM headwinds in the forthcoming quarters from FX as well…iPad units continued to decline, down 18% y/y, with iPad ASPs down 7% as well. Guidance was essentially in line, which is fine but very different than the previous two quarters.
