mmmmnn martin & finn’s characters are just. really interesting to me tbh heres me rambling a bunch
martin always pushes his problems away and never looks back? found his long lost son? just escape the citadel. dooming a whole species in The Visitor? gotta build this rocket. nope. bye. see ya (x)
but then finn realizes this, gets mad at him about it and launches him into space, but it doesn’t really leave him unscathed because now when he messes up he thinks, shit, i’m selfish like my dad
but he’s really not like his dad, because finn was Literally offered the choice to escape all his troubles and burdens and finn accepted that he couldn’t run away from everything and decided to accept everything in his life, the good and the bad, while his dad just. chose to fling himself off their plane of existence
(and semi unrelated but finn Does know how to face his mistakes and apologize for them, Bun Bun was a great episode)
the really fun thing i like is that when he realizes this, finn tries to use it to help others (helper genes hell yeah!!) and tells the other humans in the islands that it’s okay to feel pain, it’s okay to have troubles in your life and face them with everything else. (like frieda believed in, i guess. there’s more to life than just pure happiness, and that’s okay, that’s what makes it great)
it’s something martin could never do, it’s something finn learned to embrace, and it’s really fun to watch and god i love adventure time good fucking BYE
edit: semi unrelated too but finn and minnie’s dynamic is also pretty cool bc while finn learns to balance the good and the bad minnie doesn’t take problems very well either
she throws herself away (literally) into her Helper work and insists finn stays at the islands so he’ll never be hurt again
so, anyway, finn is great, and i rly love AT’s take on the Life’s A Big Grey Mess moral
If you want to hear the greatest story keep reading if not bye
EDIT: I rescreenshotted because the first time I made this post I missed the part where I called Obama an atheist and I’m not going to neglect that.
So my friend @rysonbran and I have this joint Facebook we use to join weird groups like conspiracy theorists and obscure cults just to see what kind of crap is on their pages and today we found this one post on a religious debate page
Now it should be noted that 1. I’m an atheist but I don’t like atheists being rude and 2. we thought at this point that it was from a conspiracy group we just joined and was just hilariously off topic (we’re idiots I know.) So I said to @rysonbran, dare me to pose as a really religious person and mess with them and see if I could get us kicked off.
And, uh, she dared me to. My finger slipped.
So after that exchange, we realized that this was a religious debate group and a religious rant wasn’t gonna get us kicked off.
Soooo we decided to step it up a notch… by posting gay pony porn.
and for the grand finale
goodnight everyone thanks for joining me on this ride
Initially I wasn’t going to reveal this, since I wanted to see people’s interpretations, but considering the high number of roleplayers Red now has (which I earnestly wasn’t expecting on release) ᵃᶰᵈ ᵇᵉᶜᵃᵘˢᵉ ᵃ ᵐᶦᶰᵒʳ ʳᵒᶫᵉ ᴵ ʰᵃᵛᵉ ᶠᵒʳ ʰᵉʳ ᶦᶰ ᵃ ᶠᵘᵗᵘʳᵉ ᵖʳᵒʲᵉᶜᵗ ᵐᵃᵏᵉˢ ᶦᵗ ʳᵉᵃᶫᶫʸ ᵒᵇᵛᶦᵒᵘˢ I’m just gonna up and say what Red is:
As some people suspected, Red is a ghost. More precisely, she’s a ghost possessing an oversized doll, not unlike Dummy. No relation to Naptsablook or Metatton. She normally wears a mask to hide her emotions in combat (it’s a confidence thing), but ironically, due to her nature as a ghost, ends up emoting through it anyway. DO WITH THAT INFORMATION WHAT YOU WILL
The doll’s skin is still a solid white though, so giving her human skin tones is still wrong, bye
edit: by “possessing” i mean “is fused with” not unlike Glad Dummy and Mettaton. The clothes and weapon she carries were not part of the doll and were of her own choosing.
so i see you enjoy neo as much as anyone else who hates themselves OTL do you have any good fic recs for the pairing?
wow that is exactly how I feel about myself and neo in general because I am the biggest SLUT for this pairing, slightly (very) bitter that I didn’t discover VIXX during neo’s golden years, and slightly disgusted at how obsessed I am with this pairing (also I hear that a lot of Starlights find the pairing cliche and overrated but I cannot find it in me to give a fuck).
But before we begin, a shameless plug by yours truly:
- Grey: Taekwoon’s world bursts into violent colour (pg, soulmate!AU, fluff/angst)
- Of Sweets and Angels:Sanghyuk wonders if an angel has come to take him to Heaven (pg13, Hunger Games!AU + girl!Hakyeon)
So anyway, fic recs. I’m a relatively new Starlight (less than half a year in) so I myself am still exploring and discovering new material for this pairing, not helped by the fact that I lost a bunch of bookmarked fics when I reformatted my phone (one of them is lost forever). Everything I read is pg13 and below because I can’t and won’t read smut (v vanila, huge prude, sorry about that). A majority of the fics I mention can be found in this masterlist here so there’s a high chance you’ve already read it. But here are some of my faves in
no particular order except for the first two:
Okay let me tell you something about this fic. I read this fic four months ago and I’ve never truly moved on. It is hands down, one of the best pieces of fiction I have ever read. Needless to say, I cried, and even now I feel like crying because I allowed myself to think about it again. If you must choose only one fic to read, read this one. Not recommended to be read in public (like I did).
- Paw Prints in the Snow: His first memory is Hakyeon’s face. (pg13, wizard/familiar!AU, fluff/angst, v angst, THE PAIN, one of my absolute faves)
- There’s a Ghost Upon the Moor Tonight:
When Taekwoon comes back to the clearing his house stands in, he’s not able to appreciate the color of the sky that comes in hues of pink and yellow, because there’s someone sitting on his porch, throwing dead leaves all around the ghost kitty. (g, ghost whisperer!AU, slow burn)
- The Silence: The first time Hakyeon heard him sing, or rather the first time he would remember it, his mother died. (pg13, banshee!AU, slow burn)
- Relative Destiny: Hakyeon is clueless. Taekwoon is clueless. The people they each like are clueless. Also, Hakyeon throws things at Wonshik and Taekwoon glares at Hongbin. (pg13, college!AU, very cute & fluffy, i did a lot of kicky legs while reading this)
- Untitled Maniscript: So long as there’s a reader, no story will ever truly end. Hakyeon breathes life into the pages, and wholeheartedly believes their love will be perpetual. (pg, dystopian!AU, slow burn)
- Little Talks: “Give it back now.” “Try and take it.” (pg13, canonverse, fluff, v cute)
- Reminice: Taekwoon used to say the winter beach looked lonely. (g, cancer!au, angst, horrible horrible angst)
-Why Won’t You Return My Calls?:
Hakyeon isn’t calling or texting anymore, and even though it hasn’t even been a day, Taekwoon’s worried.
(pg13, canonverse, angst, horrible horrible angst, i should really learn to love myself)
- Unlock: Hakyeon is so close to his goal, so close to his constant ache being cured, but his travelling companions are making reaching his destination a little more complicated than he would like. (pg13, magicverse+bandits!AU, subtle neo)
- Reticent: Taekwoon’s world exists in quiet moments. (pg, canonverse, hurt/comfort, leo-centric, more about leo’s introversion than neo but I like it a lot because of how much I am able to relate to it)
- Repose: Sometimes it gets harder to drown out life. (pg, canonverse, companion piece to the Reticent, with more pronounced neo)
- Carrot-Scented Hand Cream: “You always talk about how other people smell, but you’ve never told me how I smell. Like you said Wonsik smells like feet and Hongbin smells like too much lotion…”
(g, florist!AU + bunny!leo, fluff)
Ok so I mentioned that I don’t read smut but in certain circumstances, I force myself to sit through it. This is caused by either wips that start off as pg but then veer into nc-17 and I’m in too deep to back out or an intriguing enough plot/summary that makes me convince myself that I can handle it (I’m wrong. Every time.) I still don’t read the sexy bits though (I skim until I don’t see any “danger” words anymore, yes I’m that lame) so I can’t tell you if the smut is good or not (not that I’m able to tell even if I read it). Anyway:
- Just Can’t Control: Hakyeon’s sexuality is Jung Taekwoon’s new hair extensions for their new concept, Hyde, and the fact of that is killing him. (nc17, canonverse, hilariously self-absorbed sexually frustrated hakyeon, A+ humour)
- Cream Over Moon:
Hakyeon wouldn’t have guessed that a simple request to find a pet would turn out to be such a challenging job. And there’s more to his client than he initially thought- instead of just one, he ends up finding two cats. (r, urban fantasy!AU, idk the genre, adventure? mystery? whatever it is, it’s good)
My photography class has these posters about photography fundamentals and… and these two people looked oddly familiar to me.
THEY SO LOWKEY REMIND ME OF ALYA AND MARINETTE OK BYE
EDIT: Guys, I know Marinette is Asian. I’m in no way trying to deny that fact. I just thought that there was a slight- I repeat, slight- resemblance here. Like, the hair/clothes, I guess? I know it’s not them, even though that’s what my Snapchat caption was. I meant that more in a “wow haha look they remind me of Mari and Alya.”
I'm mad Bc my friend saw bvs and he's like mr. Film critic. But he went into it with the notion that it was going to suck. He was like "well I'm ready to be disappointed" and then came out like "yeah it sucked like I knew it would" but literally couldn't even form his own argument he was like "it had no story line and it was pointless and no character development and blah blah blah" and it just makes me mad Bc he was so prejudiced against it already
WARNING: long response warning and calling people out below.
Your friend, no offense, is an idiot. Like a lot of these brainless critics who often go by “This Movie Didn’t Go By The Formula I Like To See. So By Default, It Sucked.” He’s sounds like the other critics who kept saying BVS was more akin to an illustrious mythological painting as opposed to Marvel’s light-hearted neat style.
Which is a compliment. ????¿ But okay.
Like, the reviewers are literally mad that BVS forced them to use their conscience. They’re mad that BVS required them to use their brain, to challenge their own ideals. They’re mad because BVS is the first superhero movie to actually face-to-face hold their characters accountable for their actions even when they’re “doing the right thing”. It’s the first movie to put their iconic heroes in an objective light and have the audience go as far as questioning the heroes they love.
They’re mad because their villain wasn’t one-dimensional. Ignoring Doomsday, Lex Luthor (Jr fyi cos all the reviewers completely missed that he’s Lex’s son) was a villain who even had the audience fooled on several occasions. You expect him to be one way and he’s not. You can see that his father, Lex Luthor, poured ideals into his son’s head that eventually turned Lex into some kind of villain.
Pulling tricks out his sleeves like he’s a freaking master magician, bringing literally bringing Superman to his very knees without having to harm a single hair on his head, and playing on Batman’s entire psyche the entire time to put the two titans, so to speak, against each other.
Both for entertainment and to prove something to himself, the world, and to both of them about each other (which actually in turn works in Bruce and Clark’s favor in the end). Lex played the characters and the audience well. You had no choice but to respect his brilliance.
I can’t tell you how many times I covered my mouth and said “oh my god” because of Lex’s reveals lol.
Not to mention how easily Lex did the math on Batman and Superman cause he actually used his eyes ha.
They’re mad because the women weren’t twenty-something in cat suits and wielding guns. That formula always works but it’s time for something different. Not every woman has to be gorgeous with a mysterious past. It’s er, unoriginal. It works but, it’s very unoriginal and it’s the archetype you can find in almost every movie written by a man involving “strong women”
They’re mad because the women were diverse in age, skill set, appearance, and even ethnicity
(WOC Wonder Woman, which if you ask me, is a superhero accomplishment of the century brought to you by DC/Warner Bros).
Because the women were written on an even playing field as the men in terms of risks, casualties, danger, and so on. Because the women weren’t used as a sexual subplot and played a special role, especially the mothers. ;)
They’re mad because it’s an actual comic book accurate comic book movie. That it told a story where the audience didn’t have to watch eleven movies first and didn’t need to be handheld. Ever read a comic book? That’s what it’s like watching BVS. You go to the next page and the next page until you get to the end and wait for the next comic book issue. Sometimes you can’t fully appreciate a story a comic is telling until you read all the installments. BVS is just the beginning.
10/10 of those reviewers didn’t like BVS because :
- they didn’t pay attention. literally it’s quite embarrassing how much they didn’t pay attention and how it shows in their reviews that they are either really really stupid or didn’t actually watch the movie
- they’re used to those “family friendly, witty one-liner” superhero movies that marvel constantly makes and so they get frustrated with DC’s unique formula despite the absurdity of expecting DC to mimic the same formula as Marvel when DC has an unrivaled, unabashed reputation of their serious movies
* (ps- the writers/producers for The Winter Soldier admitted to using elements of The Dark Knight trilogy to make Cap 2 just saying which means the movie used DC’s style and look how well that worked out for them :) ) (pss- Marvel and DC aren’t the same so don’t expect them to be ;) ) *
- they came in being cynical and judgmental and desperate to see the movie fail
- they’re hypocritical
You can’t demand diversity and complexity in a plot, claiming that you’re sick of Marvel’s witty-one-liner method…
…only to deny it when DC produces it.
pick a side, guys. you either want better writing or you just want something to complain about.
People say there’s no character development but there was. And frankly, how much character development goes into a movie where two main characters haven’t been formally introduced to the story yet? The only one who could possibly have character development is Superman since we met him already in Man of Steel. And if you pay attention, Supes had character development.
What a perfect way to bait reluctant fanboys into seeing the Wonder Woman film by showing her in BVS in her truest battle glory where quite literally everyone fell in love with her! What better way to bait people into seeing the upcoming films with The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, etc than to give them sneak peaks in the film and show time-traveling Flash approaching Batman. In the final works of the Justice League all the questions will be answered. It’s reverse-storytelling at its finest and I am here for this.
Your friends claim that there was no plot? Um. What, did he go to the wrong movie and stare at a black screen for two hours and forty-five minutes? Um. The whole movie is layered with plot.
Sorry your friend is so close-minded. I wouldn’t have bothered seeing it with him. People like that can’t be changed. They prefer to be cynical and unreasonably harsh on a movie for personal and childish reasons. Oh the woes of being an egotistical know-it-all movie-goer who calls oneself a “qualified reviewer” I suppose.
Imagine wanting every superhero movie to be the exact same? That’s like eating flavorless oatmeal every day. Blegh.
Thank god BVS is the way that it was.
Now, there’s nothing wrong with kid-friendly films (tho I’m not sure how “kid-friendly” Marvel is and I think they’re mistaking those early Spiderman films for what the MCU is making today. My nephew can’t watch any of the Cap movies because of the violence) but thank god for BVS being a movie adults/teens can enjoy without things being dumbed down so kids can access it. Sometimes stories are meant to be told differently and specifically and DC has never sacrificed that for their “child audience”.
The real audience members enjoyed the film aka moviegoers who don’t bother with critics, people who are just looking to see a good movie, and the people who know the comic book source material enjoyed it even more.
It made 700+ million dollars which is more than any superhero movie has ever made, breaking a few world records including highest grossing superhero film in the process.
edit: he couldn’t form an argument because he didn’t pay attention to the movie lol
