The magic of Istanbul is in its movements.Istanbul, Turkey
The language of movements, standing apart from colors and forms, always awaits discovery in a new city in my experience. Sometimes it’s linked to sounds - movements and sounds… can inform you about the soul of a place, don’t you think?
I was visiting the stunning Ortaköy Mosque recently at dawn. Its golden reflection in the water was beautiful, but the mosque came alive for me when some pigeons nearby suddenly flew up in unison, making the shockingly loud sound that only a flock of birds can generate. In that moment, Ortaköy was like a human being (not just a building!), moving, stretching, speaking, breathing.
#cantcallmeuglycampaign is about embracing your beauty and not allowing anyone to have the power to call you ugly. It’s about loving yourself and being secure with who you are. We all have inner demons and insecurities that we deal with on a day to day basis. This is a reminder to ignore the stipulations that society puts on beauty.
This kid reminded me so much of myself that it was actually scary. He didn’t open his mouth, but all of his actions spoke for him. As hyper as he might’ve been, it’s beautiful to see that some kids still have a imagination in this day and age of technology and social media. The other part that got me was that he was with his Grandmother. Flashbacks upon flashbacks. Remembering the times that I would spend with my granny in her ‘76 'Lac 'Lac running her arons. Quite a touching morning knowing that in a few weeks will be another anniversary of my Grandmothers passing back in 2007. Crazy how things in the present make you look back at your past while you continue to steer forward into the future. Keep on running Jit, keep on running…
