Anne (Mary McDonnell) and Kate (Maria Doyle Kennedy) are sisters, but they’ve never been close. Anne left home at eighteen and never looked back, leaving her sister to care for their alcoholic father in the final stages of liver disease. After his death, Kate loses everything paying off his debts and, with no other choice, asks her estranged sister if she and her son David can move in with her for a while. As they work through years of bitterness and misunderstandings, Kate takes a job as a bartender, Anne grows closer to the nephew she never knew, and the two sisters learn they have more in common than they ever imagined.
