Summary: The reader is stranded on the side of the road and Jensen comes to the rescue.

Prompt: “Why aren’t you nervous around me?“

Pairing: Jensen x Reader

Word Count: 1,246

Requested by: @torn-and-frayed

“Son of a fuck!” You half growl, half whine shooting daggers at the flat tire in front of you.

This is just perfect. This is what you get for finally taking a week off from work. Being a successful, in demand actress isn’t always the best thing for your health. The stress alone could kill you.

So you figured visiting your parents in your hometown would be a good break. You foolishly borrowed your brother’s car to do some errands. He’s never been one to take care of things. Case and point. His car fucking sucks.

Your plans have obviously been changed and now you’re stranded on the side of the road. Cursing at yourself for even leaving the house, you start pacing around the car like a mad woman.

Tainted Love (part 1)

Summary: Soulmates are supposed to be a wonderful thing, that is until you find out who your soulmate is. You guessed it, Lance “The Fucker” Tucker.

Pairing: Lance x Reader

Warnings: probably swearing

A/N: Don’t hate me but I deleted ‘Long Way To Go’. I’m sosososososososososososososososo sorry BUT here’s this new Lance AU. I really hope you guys like it :) Also, I know I say this every time but if there are any mistakes, I shall fix it when I wake up (I really need to stop staying up late lol).

Growing up, you always wondered who your soulmate was and when you’d meet him. You wondered if he was brunette or blonde; a red head maybe? If he had blue eyes or brown eyes; maybe gray or hazel?

Was he tall or short? Did he have the most perfect smile ever? Was he nice?

So many questions ran through your head as a kid. Either way, you couldn’t wait until the day you got to meet your soulmate. Your parents always wondered when you‘d meet him. Your older sister already had, they’re married now. Your friend since college, Hope, had recently (finally) got together with her soulmate, Ben. Even your youngest sister had already met her soulmate. Now they were waiting on you and at age 28, you still held onto the little hope that you’d meet him.

It was a long 28 years of your life and your soulmate had put you through hell and back. From bruises and scrapes here and there to breaking your arm and leg.

And let’s not forget the most painful thing you’ve ever experienced because of him; that god forsaken tattoo just above your lady parts.

It was a quiet Saturday afternoon. Everyone was off doing their own thing which left you at home by yourself. You were just watching some movie, relaxing on your couch when you felt a horrible sensation on your lower abdomen and it was getting worse by the second. It felt like someone was stabbing you, more like carving you and you wondered if your soulmate was alright.

Going into the bathroom, you pull down your sweatpants and remove your shirt, leaving you in only your bra and underwear. You hold onto the wall for support, the pain increasing as it got closer to your womanhood. You look into the mirror and see what seems to be a drawing?

Then it dawned on you; that motherfucker is getting a tattoo.

It was the worst 3 to 4 hours of your life.

The idiot tattooed fucking gold medal on him. Why the fuck would he get a tattoo of a gold medal? And somewhere so painful? Needless to say you hated getting undressed. Sex too. And forget about bikini’s.

God, how you wished you knew who your soulmate was so that you could properly kick his ass.

You tried contacting him a couple of times when you were 17. You wrote on your hand with pen, knowing it would also appear on his hand as well. You wrote a simple ‘hello, this is your soulmate.’ followed by a little smiley face. He responded with a ‘fuck off’.

You also knew that he was very sexually active. You loathed the mornings you’d wake up and find several hickeys on your neck. Oh, how you wanted to pummel him to the ground.

Even though you wanted to give him a piece of your mind, you always found yourself caring a bit too much for your soulmate, despite all the shit he’s put you through.

“Get your cock sucking ass in the car, you’re coming with me.” Hope placed her hands on her hips as she glared at you.

“No thank you, I’m fine staying home.” you respond, leaning against the doorframe.

Hope groans. “Can you stop being an asshole for two seconds and come with me to the gym? The new team coordinator is coming by and you’re really fucking nice so you’ll make me look good.”

You let out a sigh. “Fine. But only because you’re shit on your own.”

Hope smiles and you quickly put on your shoes, slipping your phone into your back pocket. The two of you retreat back to her car and you slide into the backseat, being met with some teen.

He smirks at you. “Hey.”

You turn to Hope. “Who’s this asshole?”

“Oh that’s just Maggie’s fling for the week. ” she brushes it aside and you roll your eyes.

“I really like him.” Maggie turns to you with a sweet smile from the passenger seat.

“He’s got to go.” you say, looking at the guy.

“What?”

“Go, get out.” you nod your head but he doesn’t move. “Don’t make me get out of this car and drag you out.”

The teen’s eyes widen and he grabs his backpack before getting out of the car at which time, Hope starts driving.

“What the fuck was that for?” she glanced at you through the rearview mirror.

“She needs to be on her A game and that little shit would’ve distracted her.”

Hope pursed her lips but didn’t say anything more on the matter.

“Oh shit, I almost forgot.” she spoke, grabbing a cup from the cup holder. “I want that down the hatch before we get to the gym.”

You watch Maggie take the cup from her, noticing it held a greenish liquid and snatched it from her.

“Y/N, what the fuck.” Hope let out a frustrated sigh.

“What’s in here Hope?” you shake the cup around.

“Healthy shit.”

“Like what?”

“Like orange juice and bananas and.. Weed.” her voice got lower towards the end, hoping you wouldn’t hear her.

“Weed?! Are you fucking kidding me Hope? The new team coordinator is coming over and you want Maggie stoned?” you scoff.

“She needs to live a little.” Hope waves her hand at you.

You roll your eyes and roll down the window, throwing the cup.

“What’s wrong with you!” Hope nearly screeched.

“She’s not going to that gym stoned, Hope.”

Hope groans loudly. “Ugh, you’re no fun.”

The three of you walk into the gym upon Ben telling you that the new team coordinator was already there and once Hope sees him, she becomes tense.

The tall man rips his earphone out of his ear and turn around, a smirk playing at his lips. “Well, well, well. Hope Ann Greggory. You’re an hour and three minutes late.”

“What the fuck are you doing here, Lance Tucker?” she barely looked him in the eyes but it was clear that she was annoyed to see him.

Lance Tucker? Hope told you about Lance, mostly about how much of an asshole he was and how much she hated him. Lance was a gymnast as well but you didn’t care for gymnastics much so when Hope would rant about him or gymnastics, you wouldn’t pay attention. You didn’t know a thing about Lance Tucker, only that he was, as Hope says, an asshat.

“Team coordinator.” he responds, holding out what looked to be an I.D.

Hope scoffs. “They offered me that job. I said fuck no.”

Lance lets out a laugh. “That’s bullshit.”

“Your face is bullshit.”

“Something looks different about you. Oh,” he then chuckles. “I know, you got old.”

“Your limp dick disease must be affecting your eye vision.” she snapped but before their insults could go any further, Ben stopped it, asking what Maggie’s first set was to which Hope said bars, still glaring at Lance.

Lance on the other hand took this time to glance around the room before his eyes landed on you. “Oh hi, I’m Lance Tucker.” and suddenly he wasn’t the asshole from ten seconds ago.

“Y/N Y/L/N.” you respond. Lance stretches his hand out to you and you shake it, the both of you immediately pulling away when you feel a shock.

“Don’t fall for his nice guy image he’s putting on Y/N. The guys’ still a dick brain.” Hope rolled her eyes at Lance but he was too busy staring at the hand you had touched.

It was as if time had stopped and all Lance could do was look at you. Why had he felt a shock when the two of you shook hands? Did you feel it too? All too soon, Lance was snapped out of his trance.

“Asshole, you gonna watch Maggie or are you gonna keep staring at my friend with your hand in your pants?” Hope questioned, still slightly annoyed.

“Uh, yeah.” he cleared his throat, looking at you once more before turning to Maggie.

A/N: Just go with the flow, alright? I’m so excited for this one. I’ve been writing this for 3 hours, tell me what ya think!

Reid x reader

“Guys I’m out. Going without sex or orgasms for this long is not worth a grand or the bragging rights in my opinion,” Emily handed her two hundred dollars to Derek with a defeated look on her face. “Now if you’ll excuse me, there’s a very handsome fella over there that just offered to buy me a drink. I’m fairly certain he’s gonna be taking me home tonight.” She downed her drink before sauntering across the dance floor to where a dusky haired male had been sat intently watching her for the last hour.

“So it’s just Y/N and Pretty Boy left,” Derek grinned at the pair of you, adding the money to the envelope already containing his own and Garcia’s buy outs.

“You just wanna give in now Y/N?” Spencer looked over at you, a smirk on his face.

“Nope. I’ve got this. I can beat you. I will prove that guys need sexual intimacy more than girls.”

“Oh Y/N come on. We knew it was a long shot any of us beating Reid, but if it was gonna be any of us then it was going to be Prentiss just because of her sheer determination. Just give in now, I saw you eyeing up that bartender.” Morgan raised his eyes at you, glancing over to where the hot bartender was leant over restocking the chillers. Oh my, he had a nice ass. You could definitely sink your teeth into that. You’d bet he had something nice he could sink into you as well.

Reid shifted in his chair, following your glance and leaning into you whispering, “Do it, do it, do it.“

You punched him on the arm, glaring at him.

“You’re not helping Spencer.”

“I’m not meant to be helping, I’m trying to win here. Plus, which one of you was it that paid that escort to come on to me when we first started this little bet?”

“No idea what you’re talking about,” you averted your gaze to the ceiling.

What? It had been the only way you’d initially thought any of you could beat Reid.

Now it’s not like you were suggesting that the only way he could get laid was with a hooker. In fact when this whole thing had started you’d been as surprised as the rest of the team when Spencer had wanted in, you’d all kinda assumed he was a virgin, shocked when he’d revealed that actually his numbers were not that far below your own.

You’d just thought that if you could crack him first, then the rest of them would be easy pickings. So you may have contacted a local escort agency. May have suggested she come on to your friend and colleague and just pretend she’d noticed him across the room. May have offered to pick up the tab for whatever else happened afterwards.

Yet Spencer had recognised her as someone the team had questioned in a local case before you’d joined the team.

This had all started three months ago when Garcia had shown you all that ridiculous story of the 27 year old sex addict who gone along to a group therapy meeting, only for it to end up turning into an orgy.

You’d all laughed finding it hilarious initially until Emily had said, “And let me guess. It’s a man.”

“What makes you assume it would be a guy?”  Derek had been offended on behalf of his gender.

“Statistically speaking it is more likely to be a male. Only 12 percent of women have openly admitted to actually being addicted to sexual activities,” the genius of the group had pointed out.

“Yeah but for it to turn into an orgy there had to have been some women in that group right. Other wise wouldn’t it have just been a load of guys beating themselves off together,” Derek stated.

“I agree with that. There had to have been some women there right? But you can bet it was the men that initiated it. Women find it easier to take care of their own needs without guys, whereas men prefer to have their needs taken care off by another person.” Emily’s come back had had you shaking your head, just waiting for Reid’s next comment.

“Actually, that’s not true either. Studies show that men and women have pretty much the same statistical preference when it comes to either engaging in intercourse with another person or masturbating alone. Around 65 percent of both sexes prefer sex with someone else as opposed to doing it alone.”

“And where do you stand on that preference Spencer?” You saw an evil glint in Derek’s eyes, him spotting an opportunity to make Reid feel uncomfortable.

“Depends what mood I’m in. If I’m feeling lazy then I’ll do it myself. If not then, I find someone to assist and to share pleasure with.”

You’d all turned to stare at him then, everyone’s jaws dropping.

“I’m not a virgin you know. Just cos I don’t come into work bragging about who I spent the weekend doing like Morgan or Emily do, doesn’t mean I’m not actually doing it.”

“Nicely said my friend, nicely said,” you held up your hand to him and he high fived it, a slight grin on his face.

“Hey, what about Y/N? She does it too. We all watched her walk of shame the other week,” Morgan looked directly at you and you shrugged.

“I don’t go into explicit detail like you though. And neither does Garcia.”

“Yet you two were happily discussing what new ‘toys’ you’d bought the other week.“

"What’s your point Morgan?” You were failing to see where this conversation was going.

“I just don’t like the assumption that it had to have been a guy, who initiated the orgy. Women are just as into sex as men.”

“Yes we are my handsome chocolate muffin, but I bet we could go longer without it,” Garcia patted Derek’s arm before looking around at the rest of you. You were all sat at around JJ’s desk, minus Rossi and Hotch who were at a lecture off site.

“You’re on then,” Morgan offered his hand out to Penelope who just gawked at it confused.

“On?”

“Yep. Because I don’t think you could. So we’ll have a wager shall we. Which one of us can go the longest without any sexual activity.”

Penelope thought for a second before declaring, "I’m in. If these guys are.“

And so your little bet was born. You’d all agreed to be 100 percent honest with each other, and although you’d agreed never to profile each other, this was the one and only time you’d all allow it.

The rules were clarified, no sexual activity with another person and no self relief. Kissing would be allowed, but nothing further than that. The stake was set. Two hundred dollars from each of you, the winner taking the pot as well as bragging rights.

“Just to check…… Is this just sex with a member of the opposite sex? Or are we saying that all sex is off the table?” Both Spencer and Derek’s heads quickly turned in your direction, and you spotted a smirk on Emily’s face.

“All sex, regardless of gender….. But when this is over, please feel free to have as much girl on girl action as you like and to fill me in in explicit detail.”

“Haha not a chance Derek, what me and my lady friends get up to, stays between us,” you replied hearing him groan.

Penelope had been the first to cave only four weeks in. She and Kevin had been on a break when the bet was originally made, but now they were back together. She walked into work one sunny morning, an even brighter smile than usual across her face and a floral scarf round her neck despite the rising temperature.

She’d taken one look at us all staring at her quizzically before digging into her purse and pulling out four fifty dollar bills, sheepishly handing them over.

Derek had lasted another five weeks, him becoming increasingly cranky at work. It was hilarious watching him shifting uncomfortably whenever Garcia discussed her previous nights antics with Kevin.

Emily had suggested that you both wear skirts to the office the following day in order to break him, and so you both rocked up in tight fitting A line skirts with long slits up the side, finding every reason possible to have to bend over in front of him.

By the time he’d left for the day you’d both been certain he was going to explode. He sent a group text four hours later, a photo of himself lying next to a hot redhead.

And now three weeks after that Prentiss had declared defeat and from your view across the room it looked very much like she’d be getting her fix within a matter of hours.

You really wanted to win this, but you were also very, very frustrated. Sure you could cheat and go home and browse through a few choice videos on porn hub whilst having a good old intimate chat with your friend Ryan (Reynolds not Gosling, yes you’d named your rabbit. What of it?) but you knew you wouldn’t be able to hide it from the rest of the team the next day. As good a profiler you were, you were a horrendous liar when it came to personal matters.

But now it was down to you and Spencer…….and although the boy wonder had surprised everyone with his confession that he wasn’t a virgin and actually had had an arrangement with a bartender he’d met on a case, he’d already gone eight months without it and didn’t appear to be struggling at all.

Where as you weren’t used to going a few days without at least having a chat with Ryan. Poor old neglected Ryan, gathering dust in the back of your drawer. You’d make it up to him when this was over, maybe even buy him a friend to keep him company.

An idea sprung to mind,“Guys what if this was a draw?"

"What so you both admit defeat now together. That’s no fun. If you do that then it doesn’t prove anything,” Morgan shook his head at you.

“Oh come on, we’re long past making a point now.”

Garcia’s eyes suddenly lit up and she pulled Derek to her, whispering excitedly into his ear, a grin spreading over his face.

“Baby Girl I love it. But they are so not going to go for it.”

Spencer’s eyes narrowed at them, “Go For what exactly.”

“Trust me kid, what she’s suggesting is way out of your comfort zone. No way will you be down for it. Y/N maybe but not you. You just don’t got it in you Kid.”

“Haven’t got what in me?”

You watched the two of them wondering what the hell was running through their sadistic little minds.

“Penelope was suggesting that we change the bet now it’s just you two left…..And instead it becomes a contest to see which one of you can break the other.”

“Break the other? Why would I want to break Y/N? What would I even be breaking, I don’t understand.”

You did, you knew exactly what they were getting at. But you weren’t going to say anything….. Yet.

“Break her newly regrown hymen Reid,” Derek chuckled.

“Hymens don’t regrow, that’s a myth. It doesn’t matter how long a woman goes without sex it doesn’t grow………… Wait what?” he spluttered as his brain finally processed what Derek and Garcia were suggesting.

They fell apart laughing.

But…… It wasn’t actually a bad idea. And it would be seriously fun. You’d formed a friendship outside of work with Reid, but that definitely didn’t stop you thinking he was hot. And watching him getting flustered was the most adorable thing ever. And it would save you having to go out and find someone to fuck when the was all over. You could remain professional at work. It would just be sex after all.

“How would that even work? Like I have to convince Y/N to go to bed with me? Or she convinces me to go with her?” Reid interrupted their laughing and your train of thought and now it was your turn to exclaim.

“Wait what?"

"Essentially yes,” Morgan clarified when he’d regained his composure.

You and Reid looked at each other, each wondering what the other was thinking.

“Oh guys, it’s no secret that you two like each other. That night we played truth or dare….. You both admitted it and we’ve been waiting patiently for something to happen between you…. But you’re not giving us anything!”

Ugh, you’d drank so much that night it was a wonder your liver had not demanded removal from your body. And you’d been so embarrassed the next day when you recalled some of the questions you’d been made to answer, but also pleasantly surprised at some of the answers Spencer had given. But nothing had ever come of you admitting your mutual attraction to each other.

“So would we actually have to do the deed with each other? Or just get the other to admit that they wanted to? And how would you know which one of us won?”

“Either one is good with us, although of course you actually doing it would be mutually beneficial…. Especially after all this pent up sexual tension. And we’d just have to rely on you being honest with us.”

You took a deep breath turning to your friend. Were you going to regret asking this?

“What do you think Spencer? Think you can wear me down? I’m game if you are.”

He looked thoughtful for a moment.

“You know what, I think I can.”

Sharing is Caring

Pairing: Jason Todd x Reader

Request: Jason Todd x reader where the reader is training with Roy on how to use arrows and Jason gets jealous

A/N: So I’ve never written for The Outlaws before, so this could be completely rubbish and out of character. Despite that, I really enjoyed writing Roy and Kori, maybe I should do that more?? Idk guys, idk.

Tagging: @jadedhillon

Moving in with The Outlaws was, surprisingly, a lot less difficult than you had expected. You’d been dating Jason for a few years now, and when your own roommate moved out of Gotham for work he’d suggested that you stay with him, save yourself the trouble of finding someone else to share the rent. You stayed over frequently enough that it didn’t take much getting used to, but you weren’t expecting the ease with which you slipped into the camaraderie of the group.

The apartment was small and by no means fancy, but somehow they made it feel like home. It gave you a warm, fuzzy sensation in your stomach to return from work and have three other people waiting to greet you and ask how your day had been. (It was still mildly terrifying to get up for water in the middle of the night and be confronted by Kori’s glowing eyes when you walked into the kitchen, or to find a gun in the cutlery drawer, but slowly you were becoming used to it.)

Halfway (Lin-Manuel x Reader)

Summary: You and Lin are extremely domestic, but not dating. Lin asks you to move in with him anyways.
Low-key inspired by this quote:
“Date someone who meets you halfway. Date someone who brings you a glass a water when they get themselves one. Date someone who makes sure you don’t spend money on ridiculous things. Date someone your ex hates and your mom loves. Date someone who’d rather spend a Friday night watching movies, than out with 50 people they barely even talk to. Date someone who sleeps on your chest and leaves a little puddle of drool. Don’t date someone who makes you leave oceans of tears.”

Word Count: 1,203

Warnings: Cheesy ending? Mentions of jazz? I’m not sure.

A/N: Hi! I’m back at it again. Never in a million years did I think I’d ever get a single note on any of my writing, so the fact that I did get notes just has me over the moon. I might have a few fics already planned out because I have a free weekend and zero chill?

Side note: If you don’t know who Miles Davis is and have the time you should watch the movie Miles Ahead. Guy was wack.

“Cariña,” Lin softly called out to you, drawing your attention away from your notebook. You looked up to see him offering you a glass of water and you were suddenly aware of how dry your throat was. You had spent a considerable amount of time with your only form of communication being the words you were scrawling across the pages of your notebook. You dropped your pen into the pages and set it aside, flexing your hand before accepting the glass with a grateful smile.

“Thank you, love.” you cooed back, taking a large drink. You set it on the edge of his desk that was only a few feet away from the window seat you were currently sitting in. He sat at his desk, flipping open his laptop, the screen illuminating his face in a way that the diminishing sunlight had ceased to do hours ago. This was your usual spot, Lin working away at his desk while you sat in the window overlooking New York. Your eyes had been drawn back to the pages causing you to miss the way Lin looked up at you, admiring the curve of your lips and the glint of your eyes as your mind seemed to pick right back up where your pen had previously stopped. There was a time when you had used to move straight out of his line of vision the moment he sat down at his desk, much to his dismay. It took a couple of weeks until Lin finally got the nerve to tell you to stay where you were and it had been your designated space ever since.

“Ma'am, are you okay?” A distant voice asks you worriedly, a gentle tap on the shoulder shocking you out of your disassociated state. You jump slightly at the touch, but try to collect yourself enough to plaster a fake smile onto your lips and nod feebly to the flight attendant. It’s clear that she can see right through your crummy facade, but she just nods and continues down the isle, knowing well enough not to prod.

Your attention immediately snaps back to the worn black notebook in your hand, except it’s not yours. It looks exactly like yours- it’s even got the same scratch on the cover from the price sticker- but it’s not yours. The handwriting is too clean to be yours, there isn’t nearly as many ink smudges or eraser marks spread across the pages as there should be, and nothing scrawled across the yellowing paper aligns with what you’ve been working on for the past few years.

You were becoming hysterical, to say the least.

In any other given situation where this had somehow miraculously happened, you would’ve been on the phone with Kylie faster than lightening. But you were on a plane, at least an hour from landing and giving you access to others again, so that option was on hold. Obviously you couldn’t talk to anybody else about it on the plane, they’d just label you as crazy, which to your defense you can be, but they’d just zone out after about a minute. So here you were, forced to panic and get worked up over this notebook of yours all on your own. Great. Just great.

Oh god, what if that, that Lin guy was reading through your notebook right now?! What if he had already stolen all of your ideas and morphed them into his own?! No, no. Calm down, Y/N. You’re obviously overreacting, Lin wouldn’t do that. Sure, you only met him for a solid thirty seconds, but that’s enough time to get a decent judgement on somebody cute, right? He helped you up, he tried to make conversation, he seemed like a pretty good guy, a gentleman even.

Calm down, Y/N, you’re just getting yourself riled up for no good reason. You’ll be able to figure this whole situation out once you get both feet back onto solid ground again, and you’ll be able to start writing again in no time. You’ll get your notebook back, and Lin will get his. Simple fix, minus the whole “he’s in New York and you’re in rural Missouri” thing, but something can get worked out.

Closing your eyes, you take a deep breath and try to calm yourself, even slightly. Everything will turn out fine in an hour, so just wait it out. Just an hour, that’s all. Yup, juuuuusssttttt an hour.

Oh who are you kidding? This is going to be the longest hour of your life.

Your eyes snap back open and you feel a sense of jitteriness pulse through you, only making everything seem worse. What were you going to do within this agonizingly long hour? Usually you would’ve brought a book or something to read for the flight, just in case writer’s block hit you, but what were yo-oh. That’s right, you do have something to read.

Your gaze slowly shifts downward to your slightly calloused hands, mainly from your late writing nights, and settle back upon your imposter notebook. Turning it over and over in your hands, the sleek black leather only makes you more and more curious as to what else it holds inside, besides characterization and such.

A little peek wouldn’t hurt, right?

Shifting in your already stiff seat, you pull your legs up into a criss-cross position and re-open the journal, ready to try and figure out what everything was in here. You focus on a random page near the center, and quickly become absorbed in deciphering everything out of it. Are these… song lyrics? Alexander Hamilton? Hold on, that name rings a bell… Hamilton, Hamil-wait, that’s the guy on the 10$ bill! He wasn’t a president, right?

Sifting through more pages, you attempt to gather more and more information, but all you come up with is more “Hamilton this” and “Hamilton that”, and some more lyrics for different situations. Although, with the way these songs are aligned, you can totally see a character arc for a musical here and-oh God.

This notebook is a developing musical for a founding father.

That’s a new one.

You stifle a laugh from the realization, trying not to draw anyone’s attention. A musical about a founding father? Who most likely wasn’t even a president? What kind of drug did this guy have to be on to come up with this off-the-wall idea? No wonder he came off as nice when he ran into you at the airport, all crack-jobs are nice when you first run into them.

Might as well humor yourself and read on, you’ve got a miserable hour to go.

But as you pick back up where you left off, you begin to see where this Lin guy was going with this Hamilton stuff. This founding father’s life story is the perfect. Love, angst, tragedy, hardships, lost of death, all wrapped up into song? Critics would eat this up with a spoon. Sure, there’s a lot of hitches and messy parts to some of these songs, but the idea is there.

A certain pair of characters stood out to you a bit more than Hamilton himself did; The sisters, Angelica and Eliza, Angelica specifically. You unintentionally began to flip through the pages, looking for any indication of the name Angelica, wanting to know more about her. Descriptions were scattered here and there as you continued to flip; strong, independent, intellectual equal, sacrificed love, all of these quick details scrawled about.

But then you fell upon a certain song. Well, you couldn’t really call it a song with the way it looked, more like a bunch of lyrics broken up and not really connecting to each other. A bunch of small scenes that didn’t quite have an order yet, if you will. At the top of the page a bunch of titles had been written and scratched right back out, with only one remaining, a think black circle around it with a bunch of question marks, reading “Can I say Something?”.

You begin to read through the setting of the song that was hastily written along the border of the page, getting a basic understanding of how Lin was imagining this scene to be. A whole rewind situation to see a love triangle from the third angle. Alright Mister Lin-Dude, this scene has you intrigued. You feel pretty connected to this Angelica girl, the same independence of hers coursing through your blood as well. Reading on, you try to grasp the concept of the fragmented lyrics, the plot line of it partially coming together. Okay okay, so she fell in love with Hamilton first, but because she loved her sister, Eliza, so much, she let her have him instead? Wow, that’s some serious sisterly love.

Although the idea and concept of the song was well presented, the actual lyrics itself felt like it was missing something; a single word or phrase. Something that left room for interpretation, yet had many levels of meaning to it. Also something that would get more and more tragic sounding as it was said more (because there’s totally a term for that). Convinced, Unannounced, Satisfied, Unspoken, Certain… something along those lines.

You reached for your pencil in the mesh pocket of your bag and brought it down to the paper, halting only centimeters above it. Hold on, Y/N. This isn’t your notebook. This isn’t yours. You can’t go writing at will in it, who knows what kind of trouble that could stir up.

But at the same time, you couldn’t let this criticism go to waste. Maybe this Lin guy needs some “creative help” with his works?

You continue to blankly stare at the page before you, your favorite mechanical pencil teetering against your fingers in anticipation of your decision.

It’s pencil. If he doesn’t want these ideas, he can erase them with ease.

But your little notes don’t seem to just stop there. You subconsciously scribble down little anecdotes and ideas on almost every page. A little note on a line about Hamilton’s son, and how he can be both his “son” and “sun”. A small adjustment to a roasting between Jefferson and Hamilton, making Jefferson claim to have written “Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”, when Jock Locke had actually written them, giving him the effect of “underhanded”. Just simple notes and suggestions here and there, nothing major.

Well, if it hadn’t been an hour’s worth of suggestion writing, it may have been considered “small”. Yet, here you are, an hour later, being told by the overhead speaker to fasten your seatbelt for the landing in St. Louis.

You need to learn to control your writing needs, Y/N.

Setting your feet back on the floor you re-buckle, ready to get off of this airplane and back onto solid ground. Sure, you weren’t scared of heights or anything, but you really were just itching to figure out where your notebook was, and how you could get it back. Had Lin done the same thing to your notebook that you had done to his? Nah, there’s nothing good enough to deal with in it anyway. Three years of work on your musical and there’s not much to show for it, in all honesty.

The buckling of the wheels hitting the runway underneath of airplane jars you back into the present. The endless amount of more runways and nothingness outside of your window already gives you a nostalgic feeling of being back home, a smile growing on your face from the mere feeling of it. The captain’s voice rings out on the overhead speaker, announcing that all of you were now in St. Louis, and how you were able to exit to the airport now.

You waste no time in high-tailing it to the exit to gather yourself a bit before returning to your hometown. Your best friends from high school were supposed to be there to pick you up, but you had no idea where they were. In Heinz sight, you probably should’ve told them your exit instead of just “meet me at the airport”, but that couldn’t be helped now.

Fishing your phone from your pocket, you flip off airplane mode and allow for it to set in your hand for a minute, waiting for the few text messages and Snapchat’s to roll in. And they do.

But they don’t stop.

Confused, you watch the notifications bombard your lockscreen, each of them burying the other so quickly you can’t even read them. A solid minute rolls by before it finally ends, the most recent being a text from your hometown friends, Karsen and Colin.

TEXT FROM: 🚗🌞 Karsen
-“Y didn’t u tell me dat u were Twitter famous child!!!!!!”

TEXT FROM: 📞📥 Colin
-“You better check your Twitter before Kar has a heart attack.”

Utterly puzzled, you open your Twitter (after turning off the notifications, dear lord) and stare at the little blue bubble over your notifications button. You didn’t even know that number could be so high. Clicking the little bell icon, you furrow your eyebrows at everything cluttering your box. You knew none of these people, not a single one. Why were they-oh.

Oh.

Every single tweet had your handle, and one other person’s.

@Lin_Manuel.

A flood of both relief and worry wash over you as you click on the familiar name, taking in his entire profile page. Seems like it’s Lin. The profile picture looks like him, at least. Scrolling past his most recent tweets, you search for the earliest mention with your Twitter handle.

@Lin_Manuel tweeted:
“Okay, I found her account everybody, it’s @(Y/H/N), please bombard her with love for her work, even though you don’t know what it is yet”

Wait, why is he talking about your works?

You scroll further into his history, seeing the progression of his tweets backwards.

@Lin_Manuel tweeted:
“And we both dropped out notebooks that we write in during the collision, so being nice people, picked them up and gave them back to each other”

@Lin_Manuel tweeted:
“Not only was she pretty and super nice, I looked like a total jerk running into her. Literally ran over her.”

@Lin_Manuel tweeted:
“FUNNY STORY: So you guys know how I’m super clumsy and I run into almost anything ever? Well I ran into a girl at the airport just now”

“Y/N Y/M/N Y/L/N, HOW DARE YOU NOT TELL ME OF YOUR BOYFRIEND?!” A familiar voice shouts from across the way, her voice just as loud as you remember it. Karsen’s blond hair bounces towards you and you’re wrapped up in a death-grip hug from her. “Why didn’t you tell me you have a boyfriend?! We made a promise to tell each other about that stuff!” She yells in your ear, squealing in both delight and frustration.

“Yeah, you’ve got some s'plainin’ to do, Y/N.” Colin laughs from behind Karsen, his usual smirk plastered on his lips like it always use to be. “Gee, thanks for the warm welcoming you two. No really, I appreciate it.” You remark, sarcasm dripping from your voice as you stuff your phone back into your pocket, not wanting to focus on anything back in New York right now.

“No but really, who’s the guy that’s making you soon-to-be-verified on Twitter?” Colin breathes, running a hand through his styled and swoopy hair. “Yeah! I wanna know all about your boyfriend!” Karsen quietly screams, her movements giddy with excitement. “Not my boyfriend, I can tell you that much.” You laugh, following them out of the airport.

How were you going to explain this situation, actually?

——————————

If you wanna ask me about the musical the reader is writing, feel free to!

Some of you might have noticed something kind of funny about people.

Almost none of them like Treasure Planet.

And, considering I joined this fandom well over three years ago by now, this comes as absolutely no surprise to me – and chances are, if you’ve known about this film for longer than, say, a day, it fails to surprise you, too. I mean, we’ve all heard the reasons, haven’t we – valid though they are, it’s depressing to hear them, the millions upon millions upon millions of them.

  • “Sorry, the sci-fi just wasn’t my thing.”
  •  “I liked it okay, but I can’t see myself ever watching it again.”
  •  “The animation was good, but I didn’t really like the rest of it.”
  •  “It was…sort of weird to me.”
  •  “It doesn’t measure up to Treasure Island.”
  •  “It just wasn’t my cup of tea.”

Or - and here’s the one that gets to me:

  • “I just really didn’t like the main kid.”

The words come across as pretty innocent - it’s just a matter of preference, it’s just their opinion, live and let live, nothing wrong with disagreeing…and there’s not. There’s really, really not. You can hate Jim Hawkins as much as you want. But you can look me in the eye and can you tell me why you hate him? Can you tell me why, exactly, that’s the argument I’ve heard the most out of any of them? Can you tell me why, in my 3+ years in this wonderful fandom, in the thousands of days I’ve now spent promoting the shit out of this film every chance I get, can you tell me why that argument is the one I find myself dealing with the most? Can you look at me and can you tell me why you hate Jim Hawkins? Can you do that?

Because here’s the thing - I can tell you why I love him. And I got shit to back up me up.

Let’s get down to business. Let me tell you why I love Jim Hawkins - every habit, every quirk, every mannerism, every virtue, and every flaw. Let’s plunge right in.

  • He’s kind.

Sure, you can roll your eyes if you want to, but honestly? Being really, truly, simply, genuinely nice is such a rare quality in the world, and Jim has - and displays - this quality in abundance. I mean, for one thing, bringing Billy Bones to the Benbow when he seems ninety percent sure the guy’s just crazy? Yet he takes a chance anyway, because the sailor’s sick, the sailor’s injured, it’s raining really hard, he shouldn’t be out in this in his state, here, give me your arm, let me help you, you can come in out of the rain and stay in my house for a bit.

And what about the time he met that half-mad robot on Treasure Planet and, despite the fact that BEN blatantly oversteps his boundaries a good ten times (”Will you let go of me?/Stop touching me!”/Will you quit hugging me?”) or so within the first five minutes of their introduction, despite the fact that he is very obviously unhinged from all that time alone, despite the fact that BEN is loud and attention-drawing and the word stealthy isn’t in his vocabulary, despite the fact that he’s putting the captain and the doctor and himself in peril by doing so, Jim allows BEN to come with him - all he needs is to hear about the robot’s century of solitude, his loneliness, his desolation, and he just drops everything and says, “If you’re gonna come along…”

And don’t even get me started on the deleted scenes - such as the one where he offers to fix this child’s scooter, even though he and this kid have never met before, never even spoken to one another, and yet he offers to fix this scooter because aww the kid’s sad let me fix it for you.

Because, beneath that black jacket and that dark scowl of his, Jim has a huge, huge heart and it’s there and it’s evident for anyone willing to look. Because Jim just legitimately cares about other people, and there’s no ulterior motive, he doesn’t ask for compensation, he doesn’t expect anything in return, he just genuinely likes helping others.

(And as I don’t happen to have an image on hand for the child’s scooter bit mentioned above, have a few bonus pictures of times when Jim was nice)

Comforting a frightened Morph despite the fact that his life is in the most immediate and intense danger

And how about the time he lets a pirate - the leader of a mutiny in which he was supposed to be killed - walk the fuck away from him because he believes there’s good in Silver

Don’t get me started on this kid and his kindness. Don’t. Get me started.

  • And he’s smart.

I don’t mean passing-his-finals-with-flying-colors oh-haha-that-was-a-total-seat-of-my-pants-test can’t-believe-I-pulled-through-with-a-B I-was-pulling-answers-out-of-my-ass kind of smart.

I mean completely, incredibly, off-the-charts, blow-your-mind brilliant. He might be failing his high school classes, but it’s certainly not due to the challenge; he doesn’t put any effort into his work because he just doesn’t care. I mean, we even hear Sarah state that he built his first solar surfer when he was eight. So let’s let that sink in for a second.

This kid

was no older than that when he built one of these

Just let that sit a minute. He built one of those gizmos

when he was eight fucking years old. Hell, I’m not one hundred percent sure I understand them now, and he was eight and he understood them so well he could make them. (Sure, he ultimately uses it to cause trouble and ride straight into restricted areas, but it still makes him pretty brainy.)

And not to mention, when Silver tries to teach him how to steer a skiff, he doesn’t even let the guy finish his sentence before he starts powering it up. Despite the other’s best attempts to stop him, Jim ignites the engine and sends them whirling straight into a comet. He fucking steers a boat - with limited knowledge, considering Silver didn’t get a chance to teach him everything - he steers a boat into a comet, and rides that comet to its end and does it without ever missing a beat, without ever throwing himself or his companion out of the boat, without ever messing up or getting hurt or hurting Silver or anything, just gets the hang of it right off the bat.

And at the end of it, all Silver says is, “If I could maneuver a skiff like that when I was your age, they’d be bowing in the streets when I walked by today!”

Oh, and did I mention he powers up a century-old crashed boat in sixty seconds? No? Well, he did that, too.

Oh, and he also made another solar surfer, this time at fifteen, out of the useless parts of their failing ship while the planet explodes around them.

And, when said surfer begins failing, threatening to send him plummeting to his death in a raging river of lava bubbling and frothing beneath him, he keeps it going - literally rams it into the wall, striking it against the metal surface until enough friction occurs to power the thrusters again, and he does this all in the space of thirty seconds.

Oh, and he figured out where Flint’s trove was hidden before anyone else, just based on the fragmented bits and pieces he’d picked up from other people

And did I mention yet that he was the only one who could open the map leading to the planet?

There were people thirty and forty years his senior trying to figure it out

and he figures it out in seconds

  • And he’s brave

Remember when he casually faced down a whole crew of pirates three and four times over, all in the space of twenty-four hours?

And how about the fact that he refuses, at great risk to himself, to open the map for the pirates - until Silver threatens the captain and the doctor?

Or when he’s fixing that hundred-year-old boat we discussed earlier, and tells BEN to leave without him if he can’t get away in the next five minutes?

Oh, and when the star Pellucid goes supernova on their voyage and the hands are sent to secure the solar sails, not only does Jim immediately ascend, no hesitation

he also spots Silver, who followed him there, fall from his perch, and literally fucking throws himself down onto the wood and hauls the cook - who, to be honest, has a good hundred pounds on Jim and probably almost took the kid down with him, and definitely dragged the kid closer to the edge than would be advised - back up to safety.

And later in the film, he receives an order from the captain to scout ahead and find them a better place to hide - and even though the pirates were spotted seconds earlier, circling the skies in a longboat, Jim expresses no hesitation, simply obeys.

And, oh, uh, you remember that solar surfer we talked about earlier, the one he constructed as the planet bursts into flames and burns down around him?

Yeah, here he is riding it through the fires and eruptions and random debris, here he is casually risking his life to save everyone else, most of them being pirates who would have loved to see him dead.

Yep, don’t mind him, he’s just saving everyone else. He might die doing it, but damn, he’s doing it anyway.

But wait. I did promise to discuss his flaws as well, and, so far, I haven’t been making good on that promise, have I?

Fear not, for Jim Hawkins is far from perfect and it’s time for us to explore the reasons why.

  • He’s impulsive

While most readily refer to this as a “Mary Sue trait” and “not really a flaw” , I can’t help but disagree; if we consider it an undesirable trait in a real person, why on earth would we think it little more than a cute quirk in a fictional character? Believe me when I say, Jim’s consistent failure to think before he acts is not a charming little thing - it’s a flaw, plain and simple.

For all Jim’s kindness, for all his bravery and unfailing ability to think fast on his feet, he is impulsive as all hell.

Like when he, in his first meeting with Silver, throws out several thinly-veiled accusations - showing his cards, playing his whole hand right off the bat on the off chance that his opponent might show his, too.

Unsurprisingly, of course, Silver does not rise to the bait - meaning Jim revealed everything to the man who will later become his enemy, in a sense losing the only advantage he really held, whereas Silver lost nothing and now has additional information to help him on his way. And all this could have been avoided had Jim just kept his mouth shut.

And that time when he attempted to eavesdrop on a couple of the other hands cause he thought they were acting suspicious

But it’s not long before they notice him and immediately shut up - meaning Jim has now given his suspicions away to four different people, four people whom he suspects. (Five, if you count Oxy and Moron as two.)

Or how about when they find that map we talked about earlier, and when he opens it up and realizes it leads to Treasure Planet, his first thought is to follow it? Like, this could be anything. A trap, a red herring, a fool’s errand, and Jim just throws himself headlong into it because look there’s a slim chance it could be treasure let’s go right now!

I mean, there’s just no room for doubt: Jim is super impulsive, and that’s not a good quality to have. Sure, it gets shit done, but cautious people get shit done too, and they probably get it done better because they’re not making snap decisions every 2.5 seconds.

  • And Jim is selfish

Sure, we all love him. Well, some of you hate him, and some of you love to hate him, but the sentiment stands; we all love Jim, but you can’t love somebody for too long without noticing his flaws. And Jim has his flaws.

And it’s especially obvious in scenes like this

where we see that Jim was just out on a joyride while his mother visibly struggles to run the inn by herself.

It’s obvious he uses that solar surfing hobby to escape, to distract him from his problems after a tough day, but this, in turn, suggests that he feels his problems at the moment are more important than Sarah’s, and so puts himself before his mother.

And he makes things harder on her than probably anyone else in her life, going out and getting in trouble all the time and bringing the police to her door

Not only is this probably really bad for business, it’s also likely embarrassing and obviously upsetting for poor Sarah - yet Jim offers no apology, offers almost nothing beyond the words, “Mom, it’s no big deal!”

And when they open the map and realize where it leads, Jim jumps on the chance to leave Sarah

Not just their lonely little planet, but Sarah, he wants to leave her. And though his intentions here are honorable (”We could rebuild the Benbow a hundred times over!” / “I’ll make you proud!”) it still fails to completely sugarcoat the fact that he left her there, lured away by the promise of adventure.

Because Jim is selfish.

  • He’s touchy, and defiant as all hell.

Sure, this is a flaw. Sure, it’s not a great quality to have. Sure, it holds him back more than anything, and it probably gets him in more trouble than it’s worth - but I still tip my hat to Disney for introducing this flaw at all. It has been proven in the past that children with absentee parents - particularly boys with neglectful fathers -  tend to become obstinate teens with no regard for authority, and I’m just so proud of them for doing their research on that one.

Admittedly, however, this quality does cause him more trouble than it’s worth. I mean, he makes himself an enemy out of the scariest alien aboard in the first five minutes, all because he has to have the last word.

As a matter of fact, when I think about it, Jim has single-handedly gotten on the bad side of every one of these pirates on board this ship, with the obvious exception of Silver, and he does it all because he is just that feisty.

On the other hand, however, his pluck is the first thing Silver notices - and likes - about him. It’s obvious that while the pirate captain plans to work the spunk out of him, he can’t help but respect it, too.

Like, for instance, on Treasure Planet, when Jim refuses to allow Silver to leave without him

there’s an instant where Silver looks like he’s about to argue

and he could, he could just hold the captain, the doctor, or even BEN at gunpoint, and chances are, Jim would likely obey just to spare those he cares for. Despite the fact that Silver is clearly the one in power here, he gives into Jim’s demands - because, even if he doesn’t like it, Jim’s defiance is something he can respect. They may be enemies now, but Silver recognizes and respects that Jim makes a worthy enemy.

  • And let’s not forget that he’s stubborn.

Seriously, once he’s found something to fight for, he’ll fight for that, and he’ll get it, no matter what it takes, and there’s nobody in the world that can change his mind. If he gets it in his head that he wants to do something, if he gets it in his head that he should do something, he’ll do it, no matter what.

And in some cases, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It means he has a strong sense of right and wrong and knows the difference between the two, and will do what he believes to be right, regardless of what other people say. He has a moral code, and a strong one, at that, and he rarely deviates from it. And this is actually a good thing when, say, there’s a treasure-hunting pirate captain attempting to bribe him into betraying the captain and the doctor and handing over the map.

And, when this fails and Silver resorts to trying to frighten him into submission, the kid doesn’t even blink. He can’t be bought, and he sure as hell can’t be intimidated.

Of course, this isn’t always a good quality to have; while it does make him more resistant to tactics such as temptation, it also makes him inflexible and, in some cases, extremely resistant to change, even when that change would be for the better.

But that iron will has another advantage.

  • It makes him hardworking.

Whether it’s as trivial as swabbing the deck, or as enormous as seeking out a legendary treasure trove, if Jim sees the point in a task - if he sees, for himself, why it’s worthy of his time - he will put his all into it, no questions asked. So though most would call him a delinquent, and while the robo-cops on Montressor outright tell him that he is a loser

Jim is actually extremely industrious and capable - he just doesn’t always show it. But it’s there, if you know how to look.

Like when Silver leaves him with this huge pile of dishes in the galley

and he just picks up his brush and keeps right on going

and in fact, is so determined to finish up that damn stack that he ends up falling asleep in the galley, head resting on the pot in his hand

but the dishes around him are gleaming.

Or how about when he was failing at school at the beginning of the film, and by the end, he has graduated from the prestigious Interstellar Academy?

Can you imagine how much work it must have taken to get himself into that Academy? I mean, how long did it take for him to pull those grades up, to convince others he was really serious about this, and can you imagine how much work it took to get through the Academy once he got there? But Jim got there anyway, and he did graduate, and he did do all that amazing stuff, and he did it because he works hard.

Oh and remember

  • He was lost

Though by the end of the film Jim is high-spirited and confident, we know from the beginning that it wasn’t always so. His father’s absence left a hole in him, a hole he felt it was too big to fill - a hole that left him feeling worthless and rejected, it left him feeling angry and defeated, and it left him thinking he wasn’t good enough. It left him with a strong, deep-seated fear of abandonment, and more than that, it left him searching - searching and searching and never quite finding the missing piece he so desperately needed.

Jim felt he had no future; Jim felt he wasn’t worth a future; Jim didn’t really know where he was going, and that’s the kind of relatability I’ve come to expect from Dreamworks. I don’t go into a Disney film expecting to find real characters, so this came as a pleasant surprise.

And something else I’ll probably never get over

  • Jim is sensitive

So, this one actually sounds funny. I mean, I just said earlier how selfish Jim is, right? How he’s always putting himself before Sarah? Yeah. That whole argument still stands. It’s just that Jim isn’t all selfish, all the time. Can he be selfish? Yes. Extremely. Is he selfish? Sometimes. But he’s also, as mentioned before, a genuinely nice person. A person with honest empathy. His instances of self-absorption don’t cancel that out.

Now, while most define a sensitive person as “one who understands and feels for others” - and while Jim certainly does that, too - we’ve already tackled that. We’ve talked about Jim as a compassionate and thoughtful individual, and I’m not here to talk about it again, though I could.

No, there are drawbacks to feeling for others, and I’m here to talk about them.

I mean, Jim cares about other people - Jim feels deeply for people, deeply enough to welcome complete strangers into his house and offer lonely individuals a place at his side, Jim just feels for people even if he’s never experienced their hardships for himself. And if he can feel so strongly for strangers, if he can look upon a person he hardly knows and want to help ease their pain, if his heart squeezes upon seeing others’ suffering, how much do you think it hurts when he experiences his own?

His father, for example. An indifferent, neglectful parent, the heartache they cause, it would sting even the most impervious - but for somebody as thin-skinned and tender-hearted as Jim, it absolutely devastates him. And when the man finally gives up on his family, leaving behind his wife and their eight-year-old, it just tears the kid apart.

As a matter of fact, it hurts Jim so deeply that it takes him seven years just to realize that it wasn’t his fault, or anyone’s; his father’s rejection caused him so much pain that he is well into his adolescence before he can even begin to accept that he’s gone.

But this isn’t just one instance; it’s not merely a festering childhood wound, no. Jim takes the slightest slip-up straight to heart - and upon believing he caused Mr. Arrow’s death, he spends what appears to be hours beating himself up for this perceived failure.

And ultimately, he might have continued indefinitely had Silver not intervened and comforted him.

And of course, less than twenty-four hours later, Silver tells his bloodthirsty crew - and, unwittingly, an eavesdropping Jim - that his attentions were all for show, that he had to be nice to the kid to keep him from suspecting the crew of anything shady, he had to win the lad’s trust or risk his suspicion…and Jim really believes it, and, in fact, is so hurt, that he appears to take a moment to swallow back tears.

Jim is just so easy to hurt.

And to be honest, it’s great; it makes his empathy for others more believable - after all, if his own wounds have left such obvious marks, who’s to say another’s tribulations won’t win over his sensitive heart?

And, hey, hey, don’t forget

  • He’s just a kid

I mean, he’s doing all this awesome shit, he’s building solar surfers

 and saving lives

and working his ass off and being super kind and impulsive and defiant and selfish and everything, he’s doing all this, and he’s only fifteen years old. Like. He’s fifteen. He’s not even an adult yet. He’s not even of legal age. He’s just casually amazing at fifteen, but what do you think he’ll be like in five years, ten years, twenty?

As Silver says, he really is going to rattle the stars.

Now let’s review before we go:

  • Jim is kind.
  • Jim is smart.
  • Jim is brave.
  • Jim is impulsive
  • Jim is selfish
  • Jim is touchy and defiant as all hell.
  • Jim is stubborn
  • Jim is hardworking.
  • Jim was lost.
  • Jim is sensitive
  • Jim is just a kid

Just please, for the love of all that is good and holy, don’t ever forget Jim Hawkins.

A wave of origami pieces were suspended midair using fishing wire. The colours were pastel to match the spring weather outside. The whole thing was beautiful and terribly decorated, so you shouldn’t have been surprised when the display was immediately destroyed.

Two boys around your age burst into the store, barely sparing you a glance from where you stood behind the cash register, as they chattered excitedly. You observed them openly, since you had nothing better to do. The one standing nearest to you was tall and well built, but had a babyish face–dramatically round eyes and pouty lips. His friend was even taller, and had surprisingly similar facial features.

“Dude, why are we even here? Can you even do art?” the taller one asked as he followed his friend through the tiny, messy aisles.

“The fuck, Yugyeom?” the other boy replied indignantly. “Haven’t you seen me draw before? I am the Art God.”

“Ok, buddy,” Yugyeom scoffed. “If you’re gonna buy something, hurry up. I have class in like, fifteen minutes.”

The two boys rounded the store, approaching the front once again. You held your breath as they neared the window display. The artist friend browsed through a marker display, testing a few on the sample pad below.

“Bro, these Copic markers cost more than me,” the boy sighed.

“There’s a pack here on sale,” his tall friend pointed out from a few feet away.

“No way!” he replied, spinning around excitedly.

Time seemed to pass in slow motion as you watched the disaster unfold.

The boy whipped around, searching for the discounted pack of markers a few feet away from him. As he turned, he stepped back to get a better view of the aisle, completely disregarding the delicate display inches away from where he stood. His backpack got caught on several of the strings and origami sculptures. And as he turned quickly, he ripped them away, sending some of the paper sculptures flying across the store.

The pressure from the boy’s spin also caused the mount every single origami sculpture to collapse. You stared, oddly detached, as you watched your labour tumble to the ground with a loud crash.

The two boys froze, and the store was silent, save for the radio playing softly in the background.

Eventually, you stepped away from the cash register and approached the two boys, who both were staring wide-eyed at the broken display.

“Jungkook, you idiot,” Yugyeom hissed, his eyes darting in between you and the broken window display. “You fucker.”

“So, what happened here?” you asked pleasantly, trying to dispel the burning rage inside you.

“Um…somebody broke that,” Jungkook replied in a tight voice, a fiery blush blooming over his cheeks as he turned to look at you.

“I can see that,” you smiled.

“I’m so, so sorry,” Jungkook blurted out, his eyes still comically wide. “Like I’m so sorry. I’ll pay–no I don’t have any money. I’ll help you fix it!”

You raised an eyebrow at this suggestion. “It took me five and a half hours to make that.”

“You made that!? Holy shit!” Jungkook explained, his expression worsening. “Fuck, I’m so sorry! I’ll do anything. I’m not–I don’t–fuck! Just tell me what I can do.”

“It’s okay, I guess,” you shrugged. “I still have a few hours left of my shift. I’ll just try to…repair what’s left.”

“I swear I can help!” Jungkook cried–although it sounded more like a wail. “I feel so bad about this!”

Normally, you wouldn’t really consider making a customer stay back and help clean up the mess they made. But this customer–Jungkook, apparently–seemed legitimately apologetic and inappropriately guilty. Plus, you just realized he was incredibly good looking and didn’t want to turn down the company.

“Well, if you insist,” you replied. “Let me grab the origami paper. Better prepare for an incredibly boring next two hours.”

“You two have fun,” Yugyeom said, slowly backing away from the mess. “I have class. Jungkook, don’t fuck up more than you already have.”

“Amen,” you muttered, as you walked down a few aisles to locate the cheapest origami paper pack you had.

“How many times can I say I’m sorry!” Jungkook cried, watching his friend who slipped out of the store as quickly as he could. Soon, the store was quiet again, the atmosphere tense. When you returned with your hands full, Jungkook was staring at the ground, his cheeks still flushed.

You tossed him a pack of origami paper, which he fumbled to catch. His eyes darted back up.

“Look,” he began, pausing to peer at your name tag. “Y/N. I’m really, really sorry. I feel really bad about destroying your art.”

“Honestly, I don’t really have any emotional attachment to a window display I made in two minutes’ notice,” you laughed. “Just help me make a few origami sculptures, and we’ll be even.”

So, for the rest of your shift, you and Jungkook hunched over the cash, deftly folding origami paper into pretty little shapes. Surprisingly, Jungkook was quite skilled and didn’t need any instructions. While you worked, you exchanged little tidbits of information about each other.

Turns out, you both attended the same university. Jungkook was a year under you–studying business–and roomed with a few friends nearby.

He sang along quietly to the radio while you worked (“You have a beautiful voice,” you had said to him. After spluttering and blushing terribly, he replied, “Thank you. I’m minoring in music, actually.”).

When the next employee came to take over, they eyed the impromptu workstation you had set up suspiciously.

“This kid destroyed the display, so he’s helping rebuild it,” you explained. “But I’m done here, and so is he. So I’ll leave the rest to you.”

And so you shed your smock and your name tag and promptly scurried out of the store with Jungkook on your heels.

“Is it okay to leave the display like that?” he asked, concern lacing his voice.

“It’s fine. Plus that guy was late to his shift last week, and I had to stay behind for an extra hour,” you said, feeling a little petty. “Thanks for your help, Jungkook. I’ll see you around, I guess.”

“Yeah, see you,” he said, sending you an adorable smile that revealed his bunny teeth. And so you parted ways.

You were working the following Wednesday. And like every other Wednesday afternoon, the store was empty. But a few hours before your shift ended, the door chimed as a customer walked in. Your head shot up–you definitely weren’t dozing off–and your eyes widened at the sight of Jungkook waltzing into the store.

“Hi,” he said with a small smile. Jungkook walked right up the cash and leaned against the edge of the counter. The muscles of his arms bulged as he did so, and you were fairly certain that it was on purpose. “I was wondering if you could help me with something.”

“Yeah, sure,” you replied, your curiosity piquing.

“I was looking for something, and I think you have it. I want a date,” Jungkook said, blushing faintly, “with you. You and me–a date. Yeah?”

“Yeah, I think I can do that,” you smiled. “No refunds or exchanges. This is final sale.”

“I’ll take it,” Jungkook laughed, his face illuminated with a wide smile.

These days, Jungkook helped you make the window displays for fun. Turned out, he actually did have a knack for art. Your boss was seriously considering hiring Jungkook, but you dissuaded him from doing it. After all, you’d rather have Jungkook all to yourself.

Alexander was pacing the living room floor. His hands were feverishly running through his hair and he was murmuring to himself. Lafayette was scrolling through Facebook on his phone while he was lounging on the couch. John was in his studio painting while Hercules was taking a shower. It was a somewhat normal night for the four.

Except there was one person missing.

You.

You were supposed to be home an hour ago.

You were never a forgetful person. You always showed up on time for things, sometimes early if you felt like it. But you were never a late person. Yes, you disliked your job, but it put money in your account so you couldn’t complain. You were the Chief Editor for a local newspaper, meaning that you control what was or wasn’t going to be published. There were a few people on the editing team that tries and boss you around when really it should be the other way around. You were soft-spoken and had an anxiety problem so it was an unlikely job for someone as quiet as you. But, your boss liked your creativity and put you as the Chief Editor with no second thought.

Your boyfriends were very proud of you for getting such a high rank and even took you out to dinner to celebrate when you told them you got the job. Those boys, they loved you to the ends of this universe and back. Alexander smothers you in affectionate love letters and sonnets, John loves to paint and draw pictures of you, Lafayette likes to cook for you and sing to you when you’re tired, and Hercules always insists on making your clothes anytime you grow out of them. All four of them simply adored and loved you and each other to no end. Not many people understood the polysexuality and call it ‘cheating’ or something similar to ‘sister-wives’. Hell, your own parents disowned you for your sexuality and called you a whore. You ended up moving in with Alexander once he got his first apartment. That was a few years ago and you managed to move into a large apartment with all of your lovers living happily together.

But, somehow, you weren’t happy.

Not with yourself.

For A Reason (Lafayette x Reader)

Requested By: Anonymous

Summary: It’s Valentine’s Day and you go out with your best friends the Schuyler Sisters. See what happens when a certain Frenchman catches your eye.

Warnings: None, I don’t think.

Time Period: Modern

Words: 1330

A/N: HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!! I hope you are all having an amazing day because each and everyone of you guys are beautiful and deserve the best!!! Anyway, I’m sorry this story isn’t the greatest, but hey it’s Valentine’s Day. Enjoy, send in any requests you have, and have a great day!

You strongly believed in the idea that everything happened for a reason. People chose certain professions for a reason, people made certain choices for a reason, and people loved certain people for a reason.

When your friends had texted asking if you wanted to go out on Valentine’s Day to celebrate being single, you accepted; for a reason. That evening, you put on a (y/f/c) dress that made you feel on top of the world, with matching heels. After curling your hair and perfecting your makeup, you were ready to hit the bar.

Your friends Angelica, Eliza, and Peggy and come to drive you to the bar where you would be spending your evening. Once you reached your destination, you grabbed a couple of drinks and a table. Smiling all around, each of you raised your glasses and took a sip.

“Who needs a boyfriend?” you asked. “We are strong, independent, badass women who can be just as happy single as we would be if we were in relationships.” you declared, taking another sip of your drink.

“Amen!” Peggy agreed.

“You’re right girl.” Angelica added.

“Preach!” Eliza finished, giggling.

As the night wore on, you, Angelica, Peggy, and Eliza had a few more drinks, danced quite a bit, and flirted with some guys. The entire time, one man in particular had caught your eye. He had curly hair, kind eyes, and a handsome face.

The stranger was with a group of 3 other men. Unfortunately, you were not brave enough to walk over to them and talk to the curly haired man. Each time you glanced his way, one of your friends tried to encourage you to talk to him.

“No.” you told them. “What happened to our whole agreement that we are better off single?” you asked, reminding them of the start of the night.

Peggy rolled her eyes and rested a hand on your shoulder. “That can be true sometimes, (y/n), but if you find a guy you like you need to go after him.” she encouraged.

“You guys know I believe everything happens for a reason. So if we are meant to be fate will bring us together.” you tried to reason with them.

The night was winding down and you knew it would be time to head home soon. Deciding to get one last drink, you went to the bar to order it. On your way back, your head was down as you stared at the little screen of your phone. Before you could look up, you collided with a tall, warm figure.

You groaned as your drink spilled on your dress a bit, but you looked up to see what you hit. Eyes up, you took a breath, noticing it was the handsome stranger from earlier.

“Oh my gosh, I am so sorry, Miss.” he apologized, handing you some napkins in attempt to fix the accident.

Although you couldn’t speak, you accepted the napkins and dabbed at the stain on your dress. When you realized the man was still there, you gathered your courage to speak.

“Please don’t worry about, it was my fault anyway.” you told him, smiling softly.

He smiled back and saw that you had lost all of your drink. “Well either way, please let me buy you a new drink.” he offered.

You gave him a sly look and gained some confidence. “I thought I was always told to not accept drinks from strangers at the bar, especially when I don’t know their name.” you retorted, laughing lightly.

The man laughed once he realized you were joking. “My name is Gilbert du Motier, but most people call me Lafayette.” he introduced, sticking his hand out.

Accepting his hand, you shook it and introduced yourself. “It’s nice to meet you, Lafayette, I am (y/n). And I will take you up on your offer for that drink.”

After Lafayette bought you a drink, the two of you headed to a booth in the back. You ended up just talking and talking about your lives for almost an hour. At one point he was laughing so hard that part of his drink sloshed out of his cup, onto your leg, again.

“Je suis vraiment désolé!” he spoke as he worked quickly to clean up the spilt liquid.

“C'est bon, ne vous inquiétez pas.” you reassured him, waving it off.

Lafayette stopped what he was doing and stared at you, incredulously, but had a huge grin on his face. “You-you speak French?” he stammered, amazed.

You nodded shyly and answered. “Oui, I took it all throughout high school and college.” you admitted.

“C'est incroyable!” he complimented.

A silence settled between the two of you, but it was awkward. You both gazed at each other, not saying a word or moving a muscle. That was until Lafayette started to lean towards you until he captured your lips with his.

Meanwhile, your friends had been wondering where you wondered off to. They knew you were still at the bar because they were your ride home, but you weren’t answering your phone.

During the time they spent looking for you, Eliza started talking to a man named Alexander Hamilton. Coincidently, he and his group of friends were looking for their other friend, Lafayette.

“Does he have dark, curly hair?” Angelica asked, putting two and two together.

“Yes.” the man named Hercules answered.

John piped up next. “Have you seen him?”

“Well our friend, (y/n), has been interested in him all night.” Peggy remarked, while sending a few flirty glances John’s way.

“Well, let’s go find them.” Eliza stated with a smile.

It didn’t take long, but eventually Alexander, Eliza, Peggy, John, Hercules, and Angelica finally found you and Lafayette. You were still at your booth in the back, but this time you were full on making out.

Your one arm was wrapped in Lafayette’s hair and the other was around his neck. His one arm was on your waist, drawing you flush against his chest, while the other was tangled in your hair.

The two of you were oblivious to the fact that there were now six people watching you, until you heard a deep voice clear their throat. Pulling away, your cheeks turned red when you saw your best friends glancing down on your with smirks on their faces.

“Get some, (y/n).” they laughed, while you buried your face further into your hands.

At the same time, Lafayette’s friends were poking fun at him, until the shorter man with dark hair spoke up. “So, uh, what was going here?” he asked, laughing because he was fully aware of what was happening.

The Schuyler Sisters crossed their arms and looked at you, the same question on their faces.

“Umm, he had-” you began, but you were cut off.

“It was an accident!” Lafayette shouted and you hit his chest.

“Did you really think they were going to fall for ‘It was an accident’?” you mocked, leaning into his chest.

In front of you, each person was laughing their heads off, clutching onto their sides. When they calmed down, Angelica grabbed your arm and spoke. ‘Sorry to break this up, but we have to head out down.” she let you know.

You nodded, but had a small frown on your face. “Enchanté.” you told Lafayette and got up to leave, but before you could, he handed you his phone.

“If you want you to, you can put your number in and I’ll text you.” he offered, looking a bit embarrassed. You nodded rather hurriedly and typed in your number.

With one last kiss, you gathered your things and left with your girls. All they teased you the whole ride back, you smiled and thought about your evening.

Everything had happened for a reason. You had agreed to go out instead of throwing yourself a pity party, you had ran into Lafayette for a reason, and you had given him your number for a reason.

Best Valentine’s Day ever!

Tell It To The Barista

In which Riskua starts working at a coffee shop

A little ficlet for @tsume-yuki for her fic Tell it to the Marines. Because the coffee shop AU didn’t yet exist and I love TITTM so much.

A peaceful little job, Mama had suggested after they moved to this town from Melring. Riskua needs to get out more, apparently.

Riskua is fairly certain that this hadn’t been what she meant. Actually, knowing her mother, it might have been exactly what she was talking about.

Whoever thought coffee shops were peaceful needed a reality check. It’s Riskua’s second day. The store manager just quit and walked off, and with her three of the employees. Which leaves just her and Law, a guy who’s working here surprisingly not to pay for his classes - he’s some sort of genius and has a full scholarship, also his father is apparently kind of over the top when it comes to giving him money - but because he genuinely loves coffee. And another reason, but Riskua doesn’t yet know what it is.

It’s the morning. This is the only coffee shop near the university campus. And there’s only Riskua and Law manning the shop.

Law gives her a look akin to one a general might give his troops just before heading into battle.  “At least we’ll be prepared for the zombie apocalypse, Ris-ya,” he says.

She gives him a lopsided grin and twirls her pen before clutching it like a dagger. “My father always says to beat them off with a stick. It never made sense until now.”

Law gives her a mildly exasperated look, and then there’s no time to speak anymore. The masses have arrived. It is time for battle.

What If?

Title: What If?
Summary: You indulge yourself in a harmless passion, following a train of thought, but when Mikey catches a glimpse it may not be so harmless after all.
Author: Velcr0Kitty
Characters: Mikey (2016) x Reader
Word Count: 1846
Warnings: Angst, fluff, body image… issues? I guess?
Author’s Notes: Welcome to my first fic, I’m so sorry. I seriously didn’t expect it to become so sad my original idea was so happy ;-;

You drift to the bottom of the sketchbook and scrawl a title of sorts.

What If - Mikey

Under it, you put your signature. It’s hard to deny your feelings for the charismatic turtle, but with that whole “different species” issue complicating things you doubted the feelings would ever be mutual. That hasn’t stopped your daydreams yet.

You never imagined you’d be in a situation where you even could think that. Once upon a time you could only imagine yourself with your beloved art degree in a pleasant flat somewhere other than NYC. You would be a master of your passion and your passion, a career. Before you got your chance, however, your best friend fell very ill. You spent your time with her, being supportive. This was the snowball that became the avalanche.

Your friend was released after a few weeks. Then in succession, like a machine gun of shit, your mother died in a car accident, you were hostage in a bank robbery, your new apartment building out of town exploded (You didn’t honestly believe the landlord at first). Three foot clan attacks and a load more bull-shit later, you were broke, homeless, family-less and living, quite literally, under a rock (a storm a few months prior had upturned it in central park.) That’s where the turtles found you. Dirty, starving, and huddled up under a blanket some random do-gooder’s gave you. Though you suspect it was mostly Donnie’s doing, for whatever reason, they took you in and welcomed you into their home.

That was three years ago. Over those three wonderful years, they nursed you back to health, welcomed you, and loved you as one of their own. It didn’t take long for feelings to develop for the youngest. You spent day in and day out with all of the brothers, of course, but most of your time was with Mikey. Donnie always patched you up and made sure you were okay, but Mikey sat with you and made sure you were okay. He quickly became your best friend.

He comforted you, stayed up with you when you couldn’t sleep, you two have more inside jokes than you’d care to count. The only thing you don’t know about him is how much the guys have been hounding him for months, just small remarks during training or while on patrol, to get him to “just turtle up!” and ask you out or something.

For some reason, you kept your art from them. As close as y'all were, having even one thing to yourself can do wonders for your sanity. Sometimes, while the boys trained or for the hours Splinter had them in the Ha'Shi, you snuck out to buy supplies. Nothing too big, just sketchbooks and pencils that you stashed under your bed when not in use.

You often drew the brothers, for good reason. They had both ridiculously interesting lines and unique shapes, as well as always being around. Plus you had found a few well-hidden hidey holes to draw from if you wanted a live reference.

It’s only natural when crushing on a giant talking turtle to, even just once, imagine what he’d look like as a human, right?

Today, you ran with that thought. So, as you finish the drawing, you scan the page for any last minute fixes. You run your fingers over the sketch, being careful to not smudge. You feel the bumps and ridges of your pencil marks travel underneath you like a road map. As you move over his face, your hand reveals his brilliant and goofy grin, but you can almost see the way his blue eyes light up and glint with mischief when he laughs, the way the green of his cheeks shimmer in the light with his constant smiles and grins. You soften and fall into a lazy smile.

Your hand continues over his torso, your mind wandering to the endless amazing hugs, his muscular arms, his surprisingly comfortable plastron. Hesitantly, you move left, over a man. Lean, but built, muscle hidden under a wildly patterned t-shirt. His mid-length blond messy hair falls into his eyes, but the mischief and brilliant smile remain. He stands with his arms crossed. His pose screams youth, confidence and energy. Your eyes flick back and forth between the drawings. You are nowhere near as familiar with this man, but your curiosity is sated.

The sounds of training float from the dojo as you come back to reality. Heavy grunts and dull thuds tell you how far into training they are and, not realizing how late it really is, decide it will be some time until they’re done. You abandon your art supplies on your bed for the makeshift shower down the hall that Don whipped up last year.

When you emerge toasty and clean in your favorite PJ’s, you waddle towards your room and revel in the silence. You’re nearly winded when just how silent it was hit you like a freight train and you took off for your room. Mere footsteps away from the right corner and a soft hiccup of a sob makes you freeze, your heart dropping. You stop, inches from the door. You know what’s coming. Something in you tells you to run. What’s around this corner? You know it will break you. You can leave. You don’t have to see those baby blues hating you. Thinking you’ve betrayed him.

You run a hand through your hair. Ruined.

You wring your hands. He hates you.

You take a step into the room, almost trembling. Looking everywhere but where you need to. His eyes are burning into you. Your room is dull. Face this. You could have run, but you didn’t. So, FACE. THIS.

When you make eye contact, you couldn’t and will never be able to accurately describe the sheer betrayal in his eyes. He’s gripping your sketchbook, the drawing. His eyes are red, his mouth agape. He opens and closes it a few times, searching for words.

———

“You know, we were almost human once?” You drop your controller and shift on the couch to look at him better. Disbelief paints your face.

“No kidding?”

———

“… What,” his voice breaks, as does his eye contact, which drops to the paper in his hand. “Y/N, what is this?”

———

“Seriously, Angelcakes. It’s crazy, Donnie had this ooze that we got from…” As he tells you his story you can see how important it was to him to find some normalcy. He wasn’t cracking jokes, he was barely moving. Just talking. This became the most personal and serious night you two had ever shared. He spoke of growing up with ninja turtles. You, of school, of bullies, of humans. You shared worlds.

———

You couldn’t find the words. You knew you had hurt him. Badly. It was just a drawing and a thought to you, but to him… to him it meant you didn’t like him for him. Maybe even not at all.

———

You swapped so much about each other that night, not just talking but learning. He finally opened up wholly when he wouldn’t look at you.

“I wish…” His hands suddenly become very interesting. “I wish I was human, you know? It would just be…” he searches for the word. The word he finds will break him. As he says it, he will cry through his half-hearted smile. You will hold him until you both fall asleep, cradling him to your chest, TV still on.

He looks up with pain and resolve.

“… Easier.”

———

Y/N!” Mikey slams your sketchbook against the wall searching your eyes for an explanation. For the first time you’d ever heard, your best friend raised his voice. He was pissed.

———

The next morning he woke up embarrassed. He remembered your sweet coo’s and soft-spoken words of comfort from the night before as he took down a wall he never knew he had, for you. He never realized how much he wanted to give you the life you deserve, and just how much he couldn’t actually give you. A certain melancholy took him. He felt so bad as you talked about your life. As far as he knew no one in his family knew anything about you from before they found you, just that you had suffered a great deal and had no one left, but last night? He hadn’t thought about how much had to have happened for you to end up that way. For a moment, you had both bared yourselves, completely.

As these thoughts ran through him, the grogginess of waking up left him. He watched your eyes move behind your eyelids, your mouth open slightly as you breathed through your dreams. He pushes himself up so his full weight isn’t on you and with the loss of heat, you stir. Your sleepy eyes captivate him and he feels like he’s really seeing you. You have no idea. “Morning,” you quietly utter, not wanting to break the peace. Running a hand down your face, you sit upwards slightly. Noticing the vibe rolling off your normally talkative terrapin you sober up and give him a questioning look.

He hovers over you effortlessly, arms holding him up on either side of your hips. He has yet to move his gaze away from you, drinking in your features like a dying man. The only thing he can think of is kissing you until you melt, of running his hands down your waist. Steamy images fog his vision as he disappears in the thought of you. All you see is his expression softening until he closes his eyes with a small sigh.

“Um… Mikey, you good?” This snaps him out of his trance. He’s blushing and burning up but, lucky for him, you don’t notice a thing. He coughs.

“Uh, yeah babe,” the nickname that had been used countless times felt heavy on his tongue, “I’m fine, just uh… tired. Do you mind if I…?” He slowly lowers himself back onto your midsection, eyes asking permission.

“Oh yeah sure,” you stammer, concerned. “Go for it.” He snuggles into you further, wrapping himself around your stomach and breathing in your smell, suddenly feeling like a brand new person.

———

When you don’t say anything for a few seconds he storms off, taking your sketchbook with him. You yell a helpless ‘No!’ after him. The room swarms around you and you feel like the floor left without you. The air leaves your lungs and you land on your knees. Soft, wary footsteps pad into your room and pair with your light sobs. Leo reaches down and wraps you up in his arms rubbing your back, speaking calming words, soothing you.

You can faintly hear Raph yelling after Mikey but as your own sobs wrack your body you lose all concentration on them and instead melt into Leo. He picks you up, carries you to your bed and lays you down. He hesitates, wanting to ask about what just happened but not wanting to push your already fragile state.

(THERE WILL BE A PART 2 :D )

One For Both Teams Part 1

Summary: Starting fifth year in a completely new area proves less confusing than Y/N thought, as she easily befriends a number of people. The only thing is, not all of them get along, and Y/N finds herself torn between them (High School AU).

Author’s Note: So, the idea for this was mostly inspired by this photoset, ie the picture below (thanks to @i-want-to-fuck-that-dorito-man for pitching it to me). Also, I got really hyped up because I’d just bingeread “Through the Window” by @avengersimaginings which is so good, you guys. Check it out.

Part One

“Got a thing for two-faced bitches, have you?”

You drew a deep breath and forced yourself to remain calm. Things were getting way out of hand.

“Come on. Let’s get out of here.”

“You’re on his side?!”

“You know I’m never one to back down from a fight, but trust me when I say that he’s not worth it,” you murmured quietly, leaning close to his ear so he would hear you better.

This wasn’t going to end well.

“No, thanks, mum. I don’t need a lift.”

“Are you sure? It’s on the way, and-”

“Mum, please,” you said, laughing as you pulled on your shoes. “I’ll find my way.”

She frowned and glanced at the clock on the wall.

“You only have half an hour.”

“The school is fifteen minutes down the road. I’ll be fine. Thanks for offering,” you said, smiling. You leant up to give her a quick hug and a peck on the cheek as you got up, before opening the front door. “I’ll see you later. Enjoy your first day at the office!” you exclaimed, flashing her a smile as you started walking.

“You, too,” she joked, waving. You waved back, and started your walk to the school.

A soft breeze rustled through the leaves of the trees as you walked by, and you felt oddly calm. You had done this so many times by now that it was completely normal, and you didn’t feel as anxious as you used to. As you walked, you noticed other students walking further up the road, waving each other over and greeting each other excitedly. You thought nothing of it, and soon you were by the front gates of the school.

You had walked past the school before, when you were finding out where it was and all, but when you saw the size of it, you forgot to think about the amount of students a school that size could take in. You took a deep breath and pulled the folded piece of paper out of your pocket, trying to flatten the creases as you opened it and made your way through the gates.

What Every happened to Jason Todd?

I realized the other day that Jason Todd has an odd early history that newer fans that met him after his 1988 death might not know, or really understand. So buckle up kids! it’s time for Comics history

the year is 1980 and what’s about to happen is all George Pérez and Marv Wolfman’s fault. Most things in the 1980s are Perez and Wolfman’s fault come to think of that, more later. You see back between 1966 and 1978 the Teen Titans had been a moderately successful book. However in 1980 DC relaunched them with a new book and a new line up and Perez on art and Wolfman on writing

I don’t think I can over state how big of a deal this turned out to be. The New Teen Titans might still be the best selling comic book DC has ever had. the Titans were wildly popular and drawing in a new readership of late teens, 20somethings and even a few adults and as it turns out those people have a lot more money then children. However DC had a problem, the leader of it’s flag ship team, Dick Grayson, was a side kick. Technically so was Kid Flash and kinda also Wonder Girl (who is complicated) but neither was as big a part of their hero’s comic as Robin. So around 1983, 3 years into the New Teen Titans mega run the idea of replacing Dick with a new Robin was born.

Yes that’s right that little ginger boy in pink is Jason, the very first time he shows up in comics. You see DC was so nervous about replacing a beloved character (remember in 1983 there had only ever been one Robin for over 40 years) that they gave Jason the exact same back story as Dick. Dick’s mother and father were the Flying Graysons, Jason’s family the Flying Todds, and you guessed it, Jason’s Parents get murdered

and he gets adopted by Bruce

for reasons I don’t really understand (mostly having to do with tricking people into think Jason was Dick) they dyed his hair black and Dick turned over the old Robin suit and name to the kid. The next few years aren’t great as Jason lacks a clear personality, and was drawn basically just the same as Dick. but in 1986 Mike Barr, Alan Davis, and Paul Neary took over at Detective Comics, while their run is short, it also is where the iconic Jason of the 1980s comes from

the art style made Jason clearly distinct from Dick by making him very small and skinny, giving him big eyes, while Barr’s writing played up the small adorable bean.

Special mention should go to Doug McEnch’s earlier writing for opening the way for a small and adorable Jason

Any ways remember how I said everything is Perez and Wolfman’s fault? well here we go. Having gotten sky high sales out of their wonder boys DC asked them what they wanted. The answer? to remake the world. I won’t go into it but by the middle 1980s DC’s continuity was a bit of a mess and it fell to Perez and Wolfman to fix it.

This was Crisis on Infinite Earths, which if you haven’t read, you should. Any ways the blew up all DC reality and started over again. So when reworking orgin stories the higher ups were a little embarrassed the Jason Todd and Dick Grayson have the same one, and they’d largely stopped talking about Jason as a circus boy any ways so in 1987 the new origin of Jason Todd was born

This version of Jason was slightly more scrappy than before, but this has been greatly overstated:

Sadly for Jason as always in the 1980s he was a victim of forces outside his control. Two major Batman works came out around this time. 1986′s The Dark Knight Returns and 1987′s Batman Year One both by Frank Miller

Both are grim and gritty takes on Batman when that was a pretty new idea. Year One is more important since it is a retelling of Batman’s first year, a dark grim hardcore story line that had no Robin. Batman was drawing in new “serious” and adult fans while fans that came in as teens in the 1980s during the vampire years (no really it was a thing) were adulating. And a large number did not like Robin, some people didn’t like that he wasn’t Dick Grayson the Robin they grew up with. Some people didn’t like that he was drawn as a cute small bean, and some people just hated Robin and longed for a mythical past when Batman was hardcore and didn’t have a Robin. Writers struggled to fit Jason into this new and darker world resulting in

The famous comic where in Jason maybe throws a spousal abuser off a balcony. This pleased basically no one, Jason’s fans were horrified by this shift from up beat punning happy Robin to angry and violent, a lot of fans were turned off by this maybe breaking of the No Kill rule, and those who didn’t like him saw him throughout this story line as whiny and rebellious against Batman. The stage was set for

DC decided in 1988 to let fans decide if Jason lived or died, in any case they planed to retire him any ways. The facts around the phone line are disputed, it seems pretty clear DC never expected him to die. A few factors worked against him, the big one being it was 50 cents a call, that’s about a buck today but for teenagers without credit cards there was really no way to vote. There’s long been a rumor that one guy set up a machine to dial in to the kill number once every 90 seconds for 8 hours. Though this story has never been confirmed. Any ways at the end of the day over 10,000 people voted, 5,271 to live and 5,343 to die.

Hope that was informative

You stood in front of your sink in your cramped bathroom. You stared at the mirror before you, it was still steamed from the hot shower that you’d just had. You lifted one baggy sleeve of the sweatshirt you were wearing and caused a gap in the foggy glass.

A male version of yourself looked back at you. Your hair was tucked into a hat to give you the look of someone with short hair. You pulled the hat down a little so that it would implead most of the view of your face. You deemed yourself presentable and in all honestly a pretty hot man.

You were also wearing a grey, food stained, baggy sweatshirt that made your body look almost box like and also taking away the curve of your breasts. You looked like any other tired man in the end of the world.

But it wasn’t just a guy.

It felt so weird to have him there, it was like if your two worlds were collapsing just meters from you.

Going back to where Sam was sitting, you handed him the mug full of hot beverage as he thanked you, sipping it before you sat in front of him, imitating his move with your own drink. You could cut the tension and awkwardness with a knife.

A few seconds passed before you decided to talk first.

You wake in the morning to find Kai not in bed. You stretch your hand across the still warm sheet tiredly before you stand. When you check Anna’s room she’s not there either and you start to worry, when you get downstairs you find Kai and Anna eating cereal on the couch and watching cartoons.

“‘Morning.” Kai greets you with a mouth full of Cheerios.

“‘Morning, Mommy.” Anna says from beside Kai, her eyes fixed in the tv screen.

“Good morning.” You walk into the kitchen, and start making yourself coffee. Before Anna was born you weren’t really a coffee person but once she reached her terrible two’s you decided coffee was a necessity.

“So,” You jump when Kai talks from the doorway, he gives you a cocky smile in return, “Were you serious yesterday? About looking for houses far from here?”

“Yes, I was serious. But it’s not like I have the money to pick up and move, I’m not exactly the richest person on planet earth.” You stir your coffee as you talk.

“I can have that taken care of by this afternoon.” You roll your eyes.

“What are you gonna do? Rob a bank?” He smiles even wider.

“That sound like an amazing idea, you know I was just going to compel myself some diamonds and pawn them but robbing a bank is much more fun.” You knew he was still a little bad, even if he was a little different, he was still going to go back to being the Kai Parker that you always tried to stop from doing illegal things but never could.

“Promise not to kill anyone? For Anna’s sake?” Kai walks behind you and presses a kiss to your temple.

“Of course. Be back by three.” He speeds off and you lean back in your chair. Anna walks into the kitchen and pushes her bowl into the sink, she still couldn’t reach the counter.

“Where’s daddy?” Anna asks. You stand up and put your coffee cup down.

“Daddy went to go get stuff ready.” Anna stares up at you as you start to walk towards the stairs.

“Ready for what?” Anna asks as she walks after you.

“We’re gonna be moving soon.” Anna takes the steps slow in front of you, as always.

“Moving to where?” She seems generally unfazed by the idea of moving but then again little kids are usually unfazed by a lot of things.

“I don’t know yet, baby. Let’s go get dressed though, and then we’ll go to the park.” She opens the door to her room with two hands on the door knob and walks in.

Anna’s room was white walled but the walls were lined with her drawings on paper that you had taped to the wall. She had a toy chest and toys were constantly scattered over her floor along with dirty clothes, once a week you and her cleaned her room, it was how she learned about teamwork. Flowers sat in her windowsill, still living even after a year of being there. She loved most her clothes, she liked picking out her own t-shirts, and Anna particularly liked braids being put into her hair.

With Anna finally dressed (she could decide on which shirt was best) you left for the park. She could run around for hours on end, and get dirty all she wanted while you tried to look for good houses and texted Kai. You were a big fan of letting her do her thing, as long as it wasn’t destructive to herself or anyone else, if she wanted to fight imaginary dragons, you’d give her a stick for a sword. If Anna wanted to be a warrior princes and warned you to be the queen you would wear a crown and a dress. As long as no one was getting hurt (mentally or physically) she could do as she pleased. She swung back and forth on a tire swing with another little girl while you talked on the phone with Kai and watched. Other moms and dads around you tried to listen in as discreetly as they could on your call with him.

“So, where we you thinking we could move to?” You knew that some of them would have to know Kai, and that they were definitely spying for someone who wanted to kill him, someone always wanted to kill him. None of them were vampires, you knew that, you could tell when someone was a vampire, they always looked the same.

“There’s a pretty powerful coven down in New Orleans, and Klaus Mikaelson’s been seducing a witch into giving me nightmares the last few days.” You give a cheery wave to Anna when she waves at you from across the park.

“Oh yeah? What’s it about?” Kai knew the stupid code you two had used all the time, it was back when he was still the terrible maniacally crafted villain, you made it up so spies couldn’t find out where you or he were.

“The nightmares? Oh they’re lovely-” His voice cuts off for a second, glass breaks on the other end. “I get these beautiful images of people dying, which is incredibly splendid, and then the witch starts talking to me all fast and cryptic. She says that as long as I kill this super bag guy Marcel, then everything’s good and he’ll give me whatever the hell I want. Granted I don’t kill anyone he loves.”

“Can you even do that anymore? I thought that was outdated?” They probably think you’re talking about buying a house. You give them a tight lipped smile.

“Oh please, you insult me. The witch-y ancestors that made Marcel the super bad guy he is are all gone. Poof- right into the void. Hang on babe-” You hear some muffled muttering on the other end and then the zipping of several bags.

“Okay, I’m back, as I was saying. The witch-y ancestors are all destroyed now, which means that anyone with powerful enough magic could theoretically craft a spell that would turn him into a normal ol’ blood sucker. And since Freya Mikaelson already made one all I’ve gotta do is find the spell, do it, and then kill Marcel. All good.”

“All good?” A car door shuts on his end.

“Completely. So, you wanna start looking for houses at home tonight? I figure the sooner we get away from Damon the better. I don’t want Anna getting mixed up in it again.” You look over to Anna, now playing tag with a few other kids, laughing and running.

“Yeah, me either. But yes, let’s look at houses tonight, I’m at the park with Anna if you wanna come see us.”

“Alright, I’ll just drop this stuff off at the house and meet you at the park. Bye.”

“Bye.” You hang up and tuck your phone back in your purse. Anna comes running over to you, panting but smiling.

“Mommy, can I have a juice box?” You reach into your bag.

“Here you go, baby.” She pokes the straw into the juice box and takes a long gulp before putting it back on the table and running off again to join in tag. You watched after her, smiling.

Kai texts you about an hour later as you and Anna are making your way towards the cafe across the street to get lunch. Just as you’re reading the text you hit someone, and when you look up you find Matt Donovan standing in front of you.

“What do you want Matt?” You don’t stop walking, ever since Anna started showing her power Matt was always pressing you to leave, witches and vampires didn’t belong in Mystic Falls anymore. But you told him that she was a child, that she wouldn’t hurt anyone. And now that Cade had arrived in town Matt really, really wanted you to go.

“I’m just checking in on you.” You scoff and roll your eyes as you lift Anna into a chair at a table.

“Don’t act like you care, Matt, I’m not in the mood.” You open the menu and a waitress walks over to give a kids menu to Anna. She immediately opens it and starts coloring on the pages.

“I do care, Y/n. Anna’s just a kid, she doesn’t deserve to get mixed up in all this.” Matt drops his voice so that Anna can’t hear him.

“Well, for your information, we are moving. So you can stop checking up on us now.” Your eyes skim the menu.

“Where?”

“None of your business, goodbye, Matt.” He cross his arms but you don’t look up.

“Have a good life, Y/n.” Matt leaves without another word and you sigh, relaxing your shoulders.

“What was he doing here?” Kai’s voice makes you look up, he sits down next to you.

“He likes to tell me to leave without telling me to leave, it’s a great tactic, seeing as we’re moving.” You lean back in your chair, still looking at the menu.

“Daddy, can you help me get through the maze?” Anna pushes her kids menu towards Kai and he shifts his chair closer.

After lunch you look for houses, and you find a pretty suitable one not too far out of New Orleans, it was an old plantation house, there were lots of them around there, it had a lot of land, and from the pictures around it there were plenty trees. It had three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a big kitchen, a big living room, and it even had a parlor. What type of house ever had a parlor? An awesome house. But Kai had the money, and Anna was excited as soon as you told her that she’d be able to run around and have a huge backyard to play in.

“We should leave as soon as we can, the house is already furnished, and we can leave this one in my name, it’s already paid off anyways.” You were talking to Kai as you walked, passing a few people on the sidewalk who all parted ways for Annalise, who was happily walk a foot in front of you.

By the time you got to the house though, you were having second thoughts. This was your life, this was Anna’s life, could you really just abandon it? Damon was after Kai, who knew who was after Anna, you had to leave, there was no choice. Tomorrow you would go to the school and get the paperwork to transfer Anna to a school in Louisiana, by Thursday you would be in Louisiana, by Friday Anna would be in a new school, and you would have a new life.

Anna runs up the stairs and into the house, immediately going towards the living room to open her coloring books and her crayons. Kai took his shoes off by the door and then sat on the couch. You were looking at the house again on your phone, he reached over and turns it off.

“Stop worrying, we’re going to be fine.” Kai puts your phone on the coffee table and you lean back on the couch, looking around at all the toys.

“We should start packing.” You say to Kai, and he nods but he looks unwilling to move.

“Yeah,” He stands up, and grabs the keys. “I’m gonna go to the beer distributor, if I remember correctly, they’ll give you free boxes because then they have to pay someone to break them down. Be back soon.”

“Alright, see you then.”

“Bye, daddy.” Kai leans down to kiss her forehead.

“I’ll be back soon, Anna.” He leaves, and you watch the door shut behind him.
