but this is a tradition okay

anonymous asked:

Okay, I have a question; in your opinion, what should a mixed black person do when pursuing magic? Would it be appropriate to look into traditional black magics when I barely know my own heritage? Or should I stick to more open and available magics? I mean, I want to learn more about my heritage...but erasure's so far up my family tree that I have nowhere to look. What do you think I should do?

In my opinion, you have the freedom to go to whatever religion or practice that is in your heritage. Of course, if you don’t know specifics, then thats gonna be hard as hell (it hard for black people lol) but I’m also a huge believer in if you research enough and trust your gut, you’ll find the practice you should be doing. Don’t go just picking one just because. Or pick one with learning in mind. But trust the second voice and let it guide you. Eventually, you’ll know where to go.

Can I practice hoodoo if I'm not black? I've always been interested in it but I don't know if its cultural appropriation

Always consider your ancestry when thinking about rootwork, because it’s a practice involving ancestral spiritualism. So…

If you’re white, don’t you dare.

If you’re not of African descent at all, don’t even think about it.

If you’re Latinx, consider another practice which is rooted in voodoo and African magick. There’s santeria, candomblé, umbanda, and more practices that developed in Central America and South America, opposed to the U.S., where hoodoo was developed.

(Continuing for other followers)…

If you’re a non-American Black person, I suppose it’s okay, but remember that much of hoodoo is ancestral work and I’m not sure how your ancestors would feel about you practicing a non-traditional form of magick. Research the practices developed in your region first. You may find something more suited. If not, I won’t discourage you!

What about Polnareff taking his S/O on a trip to his home country?

I’ve always wanted to go to France aaaaaah

I hope these turned out okay!

  • He’d be so excited! His homeland is very important to him, and he’d love to bring his s/o to visit one day; ideally they’d actually settle down there, but he doesn’t want them to be uncomfortable, so he’s not gonna bring that up quite yet.
  • He knows all the absolute best places to eat, and he’s gonna make sure they dine at every single one. He’d also want to try and make some traditional dishes for his s/o, but he’s not too good at cooking- although he’s definitely better at making French food than he is at any other meals. Not that that’s saying much.
  • He wants his s/o to be very comfortable in his home, so if they make any passing mention of some scented candles they like, or a new set of curtains, he’s on it. He’ll also do his best to keep the place cleaner than usual for them. The best blankets, the best bath towels, maybe even a few pay per view channels on the TV.
  • Being the cheesy romantic that he is, there’s definitely going to be an evening at the Eiffel Tower. It’s his absolute favorite view, and he definitely wants to share something so iconic with somebody so important.

I always wrote. I wrote from when I was 12. That was therapeutic for me in those days. I wrote things to get them out of feeling them, and onto paper. So writing in a way saved me, kept me company. I did the traditional thing with falling in love with words, reading books and underlining lines I liked and words I didn’t know.

Shark Emoji Review

A big friendly shark with an adorable shine in their eye! Traditional colors, possibly a great white? Looks like they’re about to ask you how you’ve been and give you a hug. 10/10

Looks like a meany, but is a tough guy with a heart of gold. Pretty shade of blues, like a blue shark! Not as detailed as Apple, but still ready to do business. Will beat up anyone who hurts you and give you a kiss. 10/10

A bold lil fella (pun intended) who ends up getting into pretty risky situations! Cute face of shock, yet curiosity and wonder. Very simple look of a not-so-simple great white. A good baby. 10/10

Don’t confuse this one for a dolphin! This is a shark through and through! Has the curious and gentle face of a thresher, yet no long tail. That doesn’t stop them! I support them. 10/10

Apple’s smaller, and not as detailed, sibling. That isn’t anything bad! Gentle colors and a tiny face to support such a cute shark. Most likely also has a Facebook and posts how much they love their friends. 10/10

Big and shy pal. What has you so sad? Could really use a hug. But, when they hug back, it feels like hugging a teddy bear! An ambigious shark. Cute color that fits their character. 10/10 (+a hug)

Looks like they just took a picture of a random great white. What a beautiful picture though! Looking good! 10/10

Dude with an attitude. A beautiful and confident smile that could draw in anyone. Their dream is to one day have a motorcycle gang and rule the sea. No one tell them it’s hard to ride a motorcycle with fins. 10/10 (+wishes for the best)

Ahh!!! Scared you, didn’t they? Looks like they look up to Jaws! A big fella with cute lil eyes and gleaming teeth. Wants to be a big movie star someday, practicing their moves for their Jaws-not-a-ripoff movie. Bet they will do great! 10/10

Complains: Not enough sharks. That’s it. They’re all beautiful.

New Years baby 2017! BB-TECHIE!

Leader Snoke decides to make a clone of General Hux to test the first order’s cloning technology… they ended up with a cherishable little slip of paper with some itchy blue space allergy eyes, who loves blue milk and his new space daddies. co-commanding and co-parenting Hux and Kylo begrudgingly get romantically closer as they raise Techie as their own.

here’s hoping for hux. 2017 dont be as cruel as 2016. LET HUX LIIIIVE.

Another watercolor piece from December last year. The original was supposed to arrive with the snail mail at @ameb-stuff‘s place but it appears to have gotten lost forever. Which is a little sad. At least I’ve still got photos of it, and now you can see it here! Holding thumbs and fingers crossed that the painting will still somehow show up!

If y’all haven’t already, you should all check out Ameb’s wonderful undertale comic UNSPKN. Just be prepared for feels.

Happy New Year, a month late, and Happy Year of the Rooster!

* Don’t use without my permission, and please do not re-upload/re-post this anywhere <3

okay, but this book though.
Set in 1880 New York, this book tells the story of two witches who own a tea shop that helps that ladies of the neighbourhood by providing wisdom and remedy teas all while dealing with the oppression of women at the time AND the mania still floating around about witches.
Also.
Lesbians.
And.
Diverse.
Characters.
I could literally rant about this book forever but ! Even more amazing ! It actually has proper witchcraft in the book !!! It pays homage to Wiccan traditions and all of the herbs actually correspond with their meanings. As well as this it delves quite deeply into the Witches Ladder and even has the chant !
An amazing book that I think should be going crazy on witchblr right now

So I’ve… Been doodling

  1. Set your priorities straight. As you’ve entered school, you know that your academics are basically one of your priorities, aside from your personal health. You are a student, after all. You should know that you should be making time for all the school work you’re supposed to be dealing with. If you’re having trouble with this, I suggest you write your priorities down, and rank them according to which one weighs the most. This will make you feel much more headstrong and goal-oriented.
  2. Use schedulers and planners. You’re human and it’s okay to forget things. Get digital with apps and programs or get traditional with notebooks and planners. Involve your planning with a combination of both. This really helps especially if you’ve created a system for remembering things more efficiently, eg. color-coding, bullet journaling, weekly overviews, having legends, etc., which leads us to the next point:
  3. Schedule in advance. Complete the difficult tasks, the easy tasks, the medium tasks. Do what you can. Set deadlines for yourself. If you’re fully aware that three weeks from now, you’ll have 3 exams in a day, start studying as early as possible. If you have to attend to an event and have an exam the day after, bring any study material with you. Do homework the day they’re given to you, especially if they’re fairly easy. If they need some research or data collection, make it a point that you do it after class or on the nearest weekend. Break the habit of doing something because a classmate has already started doing his/hers. Instead, do it for the motivation that you’ve set for yourself.
  4. Prevent causes of distraction. There are only 24 hours in a day, and a fraction of which we use for fulfilling our basic necessities. Utilize the remaining time for productivity. Delete social media apps if you have to, or turn off your internet. Better yet, turn off your phone and exchange phones with your roommate or your friend. Keep it. Forget about it for a moment. You can always leave your feed but it will never leave you. You can always return to it after you’ve done your work.
  5. Multi-task! I can never stress the importance of learning multi-tasking enough. Whenever I’m in a long meeting, I usually bring my laptop to review notes or write a paper. Of course, it would seem rude to some so it’s better if you would give them a heads-up. If I’m in a class I find easy and if the professor allows us to study or drift off, I usually study for other classes that I need more attention in. While I take showers, I discuss the exam material from my memory out loud. If you have to wait in line for some errand, bring a book. Sometimes while doing my night care routine, I would listen to audio recordings of my professor. Some of these examples may come off as rude or off-putting, I know. But that’s just me. You can always find other safer situations where you could practice multi-tasking.
  6. Now, not tomorrow. If you happen to finish a scheduled task and got a little free time, it gives you all the reason to do some of the things you have scheduled for other days. If you can do it now without any constraint, why would you choose to do it later?
  7. Ask for help. If a friend’s not too busy, don’t be afraid to ask for a little help! You can ask them favors of proofreading your essay. You can ask them about the notes that you didn’t take down of. You can ask them about how this certain professor’s exam types. The possibilities are endless. Just know the right people and places. Don’t dwell too much on tiny details. If you have misunderstood a certain topic, ask your roommate, ask the person next door. Go to the nearest library. Check the internet for answers. You can consult your teacher or professor. Don’t be afraid to ask for a little assistance. No man is an island.
  8. You have all the time on your hands. If you believe that you can do it, and if you really want to do it, you will. Taking up other commitments and responsibilities is never a problem, as long as you know you can handle them without sacrificing another. You are always allowed to say no. If you have as many organizations as me, remember that work should never get in the way of your priorities. Just keep in mind that everyone has their certain limits, and you do too.
  9. If all else fails, CLUTCH IT!! I’m not joking, I’ve done this multiple times. I came out alive but I have to admit that not all of my crammed output had the best marks (although some of them did!). If you don’t want to be in this heart-racing situation, then be as diligent as possible with your work! Make it a habit.

Always remember that these tips may or may not help anyone the same as it did with me, but I’m glad that I have this opportunity to get this out there. Find your rhythm. I know it takes time, but don’t stress yourself too much because all of your efforts will be successful. Some efforts may just be rewarded in ways that you didn’t plan to, while some just lead you nearer to your dreams. Just keep doing you, and you’ll get through this.

I believe in you.
