but they look so similar and i couldn't not make this

So I’ve rewatched this episode a few times at this point, and each time I noticed new things about this scene. As more pieces fell together, we get a clear picture as to just how brutal Lars’ death was.

And this specific screenshot says it all.

Why? Because LARS IS CLEARLY STILL ALIVE AT THIS MOMENT. (Look at how tense his facial features are. There is no way that Lars could make this face if he was dead right now.)

Why is that important? Look at what happened seconds before, and what happens shortly after.

1) The explosion.
The robanoid had just exploded, and Lars was physically on top of it when it happened. At this point-blank range, and without any sort of protection, Lars was exposed to the full force of the blast. Just imagine being blown up at point-blank. All the fire, all the force, and whatever shrapnel would have been flying around, that’s what Lars was exposed to. AND HE WAS STILL ALIVE TO FEEL ALL OF IT.

2) The impact.
This happens a fraction of a second after this screenshot, but is still well worth noting. When Lars hit the wall, we could clearly hear a definite ‘crack’ noise. Judging by how he hit the wall, he most likely broke not just his neck, but probably his spine and skull, as well as several other bones, like his ribs or his arms. Along with this, there’s also a good chance that some of his organs may have been ruptured, such as his heart or his lungs. (Especially since the edge of the gem hole would likely have somewhat impaled him on impact.)

This is definitely the moment Lars died, as shown by how his face and body goes completely limp afterwards. But it’s still very likely he felt the agony of the impact for the split second before his death.

3) Lars’ scar.
This is probably the most brutal part of all of this.
As first said by the lovely @bedknees , the fact that Lars’ scarred eye was specifically covered by his hair before resurrection makes it very likely that his head was split open in that spot.

And I completely agree with this.

But how could this have happened? Shrapnel.

One of the reasons bombs are so deadly is not just because of the explosion, but also the resulting shrapnel that would be launched in all directions at anything in range. With Lars being at point-blank range of the explosion, he could’ve easily been exposed to this. And that’s exactly what I think happened.

Why? Because Lars’ scar doesn’t just slice through his cheek and forehead like skimming across a rocky surface may do. Lars’ scar also goes over his eyelid, which is shown whenever he blinks after his resurrection.

So how would’ve this gone down?

I think that a piece of the robanoid’s outer layer, probably sheetlike in shape, was shot through Lars’ head in a fraction of a second, cutting through this eye, skull, and brain, and launching out the other side. AND HE WAS STILL ALIVE TO FEEL THIS.(His hair deliberately covers his eye in this screenshot, in this moment where he is still alive, which probably proves this.)

And you can clearly see Lars’ face twisted in AGONY in the fraction of a second prior to his death.

Lars’ death was not a long, drawn out one, but was still a torturous one. To see just how violent and brutal his death was, it shows just how tragic this moment really is.

Bonus: Other possible scenarios

1) The shrapnel could’ve stopped partway into Lars’ skull, ultimately altering his brain function. (Steven’s magic likely wouldn’t be able to heal where the shrapnel would still be in)
(Although I think this is incredibly unlikely, since Lars is shown to act and function in the same way both before and after death. The areas of the brain that would’ve been affected would impair his speech, his perception of the environment, his motor abilities, his judgement, his emotional reactions, and his sense of self. This would result in a vastly different Lars than the one we know.)
(A similar injury has happened in real life; Phineas Gage. I suggest Googling him)
2) If the shrapnel had been much bigger, it would’ve cleanly cut off a large chunk of Lars’ head in a Mortal Kombat style death.

third year captain tsukki???
  • jersey #1
  • when ennoshita announced tsukki to be the new captain, nobody had opposed
  • even kageyama agreed that tsukki was the best choice after seeing him lead blocks since the shiratorizawa match and also other plays in their second year
  • everyone was excited because they want to see what the literal saltshaker will do to raise team morale and encourage team spirit
  • he will be the type of captain that is super logical and speak solely of facts and truths that he can see for himself
  • this made his pre-game speech/catchphrase (its “if i’ve seen us ace it so many times during practices, then we can do it again here”) so much more reassuring
  • whenerver he compliments a kouhai, said kouhai develops a crush on tsukki because how can anyone not when someone as stoick as tsukki looks you in the eye and compliments you sincerely
  • can bring up the team’s confidence just by saying things like “nice serve” or “nice toss” because they know there is no sugarcoating
  • calls out kageyama whenever his tosses starts being too king-like (because that tends to happen whenever kags is exhausted and/or anxious) and calms him down with a snarky remark
  • “king, watch your tosses” “what???” “this is not middle school alright” “sorry i wi-” “i have been blessed. the king have bestowed onto me his holy apology. i can now spike with the strength of a lion an-” “shut up tsukki” “don’t call me that”
  • he will become a captain that is similar to both kuroo and oikawa
  • his scheming-captain abilities are apparent since all he is thinking about during matches is how to subtly pressure his opponents into making their own mistakes
  • kuroo being a huge dorky boyfriendsenpai when he finds out about tsukki’s captaincy and keeps going on about how tsukki learnt from the best (aka him)
  • but tsukki says that he oikawa’s captaincy is his ideal style and that he learn from observing oikawa back in his first year
  • it’s not exactly a lie since he really does aspire to be a captain loved and looked up to by his teammates that can easily scare his opponents
  • and just like oikawa, he knows when and where to use his team’s plays so that it will be the most useful against opponents
  • is now known as the clever blocker among the prefecture and setters are always trying new plays to trick his blocking
  • can stop his rowdy juniors’ and kagehina’s antics with just one look
  • tbh, he can easily scare his kouhais with his smirks and he is delighted about it
  • arranging combined training camps with date tech and seijou (held at seijou because damn that school is huge) because tsukki, koganegawa, and kunimi (the respective captains) still remained in contact
  • karasuno still attends the tokyo training camp in the summer and many younger blockers goes to him for blocking tips
  • arranging practice matches with his brother’s neighbourhood team because he thinks it is good practice for karasuno
  • despite him putting on a scary front, he is still easily bullied (especially by the other third years) into treating the team dinner once in a while
  • also not afraid to call out on any kagehina pda during practice
  • “shrimpy stop eye-fucking our sweet tobio in front of innocent tadashi” “yamaguchi is doing it to yachi too and you’re just jealous because kuro-” *hinata gets hit in the face by a ball*
  • and yams “accidentally” missed his serve and hit hinata twice. yachi smirks.

anonymous asked:

Hi! I was wondering if you could do a post about the parallels between the fire nation royal family and the SWT chief's family. Obviously I have some thoughts but I couldn't really formulate them well. I think it would be interesting to consider the similarities between the two families but also the contrasts

I understand completely why it’s difficult to articulate, because while all four family members have counterparts in the opposite nation, there are as many contrasts as there are comparisons, and subversions of what we might think is a parallel, but isn’t.

Ozai and Hakoda. Ozai rules over his family with an iron fist. He demands respect and longs for total control over everything and everyone in sight. His lust for power consumes him and leaves his family twisted and shattered.

Hakoda is the diametric opposite. Although Water Tribe culture could have led Hakoda to assert authority over his family as the head of his house, he didn’t; instead, he listens to and is proud of Sokka’s ideas, and lets Katara yell at him (quite disrespectfully, I might add) in order to release her pent-up emotions. While Ozai rules through fear, Hakoda commands his warriors through respect. Where Ozai is manipulative, Hakoda is cunning with inventions. And while his family quite easily could have been shattered by Kya’s death, Hakoda’s love for his children and their love for each other kept them united.

Ursa and Kya. These two are the most similar, and occupy virtually the same place in the story and their respective families. They are strong and determined mothers who sacrifice themselves to save their children from harm. After they’re gone, the children who look up to them the most have a difficult time dealing with their loss, and their families suffer greatly. It is important to note that this applies to the A:TLA TV show only, and not the comics. You can’t make the claim that Ursa “sacrificed” for Zuko if she spent all the intervening years in deliberate obliviousness to the suffering around her, living the life she’s always wanted to with the man of her dreams!

Pardon me while I take a moment to let off some steam.

Anyway.

Azula and Sokka.

“But wait a minute, Araeph! Zuko is the older brother, so shouldn’t Zuko and Sokka be paralleled?”

Zuko and Sokka do have similar experiences throughout the show; however, they are not true parallels. Azula is the coldly logical (and yet creatively crafty) one of her family. Sokka is the strategist of the GAang, and the one who can see clearly past Azula’s strategic manipulation (if not her emotional one).  Sokka and Azula are also the ones with the most responsibility thrust on their shoulders, as Sokka feels pressure to be the “man of the house”, especially with his father away at war. Meanwhile, Azula faces so much stress for being the only child Ozai considers competent and the heir apparent to the Fire Nation that she develops an insidious strain of perfectionism that eventually tilts her world upside down. However, while Azula’s response to her father’s abuse is to regiment her firebending so that not even a hair gets out of place, Sokka absorbs his father’s ideas and praise like a sponge and gets the chance to stretch his creativity on pursuits other than warfare. As the privileged firstborn son, Sokka could have refused to listen to Katara and Suki or used his position in the tribe to try to gain more power, but he didn’t. He made a conscious choice to become a better person throughout the series, while Azula, despite her exceptional skills, never grew in such a way.

Zuko and Katara. Katara is the person who wields her emotions like a weapon, determined not to let anything stand in her way. Zuko is the same: he goes where his emotions tell him to, regardless of whether it’s the wisest course or whether it affects his personal safety. Both of them are very practical when the need arises but can be blown off course by an event that evokes their childhood trauma or their current state of cultural oppression (Katara) or abuse (Zuko). They are capable of enormous acts of kindness, but they also take their anger out on safe targets—not people with less power, but people who will see them at their worst and accept it (Sokka, Hakoda, Iroh, each other). Katara is the mighty bender of the SWT family, but her fighting style mirrors Zuko’s much more than it does Azula’s. Zuko’s bending is characterized by drive and determination, and one look at Katara trying to freeze the firebenders in Episode 2 alongside Zuko’s duel with Zhao in Episode 3 shows just how similar these two are. But since both of them began their journeys on opposite sides of the war, their challenges are different: Katara has to fight for the rights that she deserves, while Zuko needs to learn that he doesn’t have the right to be spoiled and have everyone bow to him just because of his lineage. Still, they’re alike in one more important way: they successfully learn to see the “enemy” as an ally, even a friend, and despite their childhood experiences or conditioning, they are both willing to embrace an element of change.

First of all, to you, as someone who presumably does not ship KatsuDeku, I’d like to thank you for coming to my ask box with a calm and respectful question rather than wagging fingers and yelling about how the pairing is disgusting and anyone that ships it is filth; or saying things that people who hate Katsuki and Izuku paired together usually use as an example as to why Katsuki is a pretty terrible person and why they should never be together. So, before I answer your question, i really need to say thank you.

Without any more delay, let’s delve into this!

And please, just bare with me, I have a point to all this.

Their relationship was indeed abusive growing up, and anyone that can’t see it is either blind, or chooses to be blissfully ignorant. It was a textbook case of bullying, and first I want to say, that by “shipping” the two of them, that I in no way condone treating another human being like absolute dirt.

With that being said, Katsuki is a strange character. Too many see him as nothing but blind rage, anger, and (in my opinion) his most dangerous personality trait, pride. Izuku was a very young boy when Katsuki began bullying him, and our small green son said himself that once Katsuki had gotten his quirk he began to change.

I’m not excusing his behaviour, but Katsuki, as an impressionable child (as most are), with his drive and determination to be the best, was encouraged by absolutely everyone, and denied by no one. They didn’t just whisper that he was meant for greatness, they loudly exclaimed it, shouted it, and ingrained it into his head. He was told that he would be simply amazing because of his quirk, and then izuku, who didn’t have one, matched his fiery spirit all the way, despite HIM being the best.

A childs psyche is easily fucked with. This kid sat there with heavy expectations, and hopes and dreams on his shoulders. He was told he was amazing by everyone, so it must be true right? He treated Izuku badly all because he was quirkless, but no one stopped him from behaving in such a way, despite it being quite obvious as to what he was doing (Katsuki isn’t known for being quiet), so he couldn’t have been doing anything too bad right?

All that pressure, self doubt, fear of failure, insecurity, and self loathing when he couldn’t reach the top comes with those societal expectations and borderline demands. It all builds up inside and it’s been showing in the recent chapters. His treatment of Izuku… I don’t think Katsuki is as apathetic to Izuku’s suffering as he lets on. Katsuki’s anxiety about his own abilities was never Izuku’s fault, but he saw him as a hurdle to climb over, simply because he unknowingly regarded him as someone who was on par with him, quirk or no. Izuku always met him every step of the way in exuberance, dedication, perseverance despite not being as “amazing” as he is, and infuriatingly enough, beat him when it came to bravery.

If Izuku really was no more than a pebble to him, Katsuki wouldn’t have cared so much about building himself up in comparison, and would have simply dismissed him as another side character, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Izuku endured years of bullying, both emotional and physical mistreatment from Katsuki, yet this blindingly upbeat, and downright Heroic boy has this amazing gift to see the good there is in a person. He can read a person, and see their pain, and tries to obliterate it with his words. As an example, for Shouto, Izuku saw that he was suffering, and used the only power he had from the start to try and save him; the power of speech and his belief in peoples inner strength (or something equally as MC protag-ish). I think that’s what he’s been trying to do with Katsuki from the start. I personally believe that Katsuki perhaps knows that, and sees Izuku pointing out these things to him, or admiring them, as him dragging out and mocking what he sees as weakness in himself. Not that ‘being amazing’ is a weakness, but the fact that Izuku sees him, like his front of fury is so transparent that he could stick his hand through his chest, is like he’s being made out to be a fool. Heros are supposed to be strong, show no fear, and unquestionably courageous. Izuku has beat him in every respect as Katsuki sees it now, yet Izuku’s still there, praising him, and ‘making fun of him’. Katsuki has never needed any real encouragement, as he’s always been at the top. It was just expected respects and due praise to him. He probably has no idea what it means to have someone really believe in him. He was supposed to be the one to make it big, yet there’s “Deku”, crushing not just his dreams, but making the voices of everyone around him, and the whispers of the adults of his past louder and louder, reiterating that he is meant to be something.

SO, ENOUGH ABOUT KATSUKI—

I just had to explain where I was coming from to make my point here, forgive me.

So Katsuki, as fucked up, and down right foul as he can be, isn’t completely to blame for becoming what he is. Again, I’m not excusing him, but I’m saying that Izuku can see that. Izuku isn’t blind to it, at least not completely, because if I was that kid I woulda’ changed schools a long time ago, but this strong green bean has thought about it- said it to himself- and even said it to atsuki’s face (kind of) that he’s a fucking asshole. Izuku has even gone so far as to think about how he hates the guy.

I completely understand where you’re coming from anon.

I really, really do.

I was also bullied really bad by a few people, but two of them, who were incidentally two of the worst by a long shot, are now some very good friends to me. The only thing I can say about that is… people change. They just… grew up.

I’m not saying that everyone needs to go out there and confront their bullies, or people who harassed them, because not all people can make peace with who they were in the past, or perhaps never learned to function a different way, but it happens. You don’t need to gain any closure with a past tormentor, and you are allowed to live your life without sparing them another thought. That is 100000% a-okay. But so is forgiving people, and helping them down a better road to becoming a significantly kinder person. People are allowed to forgive as well as cast away, and this is something I have become very intimate with given my “family” situation. I completely understand that some just can not be forgiven, not ever… but in light of those who are undeserving, I’ve learned and become aware of who is forgivable. Katsuki wasn’t so bad as to not be forgiven and perhaps be given a chance.

We always forget that children can be so cruel. They can be kind, but they don’t even know who they are yet. They can’t make executive decisions concerning some basic life choices. We can’t expect them to understand what they’re doing wrong all the time. Hell, even as adults, humans are constantly learning and shaping themselves to their environment and the people around them.

One of my bullies, they were especially crude and mean to me because they “liked me”. Now they’ve admitted that it was not the way to approach things, and they’re deeply sorry for the ways they acted in high school. They made my life hell for the few months of grade eight all those years ago. I was on the rugby team with him as well, and he and his friends, who i had to play with, would be especially rough with me. It was fine, I thought. I was capable of handling it. We’ve talked about how the stigma and influence of his father and “friends” drove him to act in those ways. How the “boys will be boys” and “Boys pick on girls if they like them” thing was ingrained in his head. It was so influential and potent in his thought process that he thought that me fighting back only meant I liked him too- and drove him to do it even more.

The second of one of my worst bullies was a girl who also went along with the crowd, but now knows that she was a tyrannical queen bee. She had a lot of insecurities, as most bullies often do, and her mother was always on her about being a perfect woman, which now we’ve bonded over due to our similar circumstances. She knows what she did was wrong, and despises what she was in the past. We found eachother again when we volunteered as sort of ‘big sisters’ to teen girls, and did occasional groups with them as well. She knows she did a lot of bad, but hopes to make up for it now that she’s realized her grave mistakes. She’s since broken up with a lot of the “friends” who were just as toxic in high school, and surrounds herself with body-positive, loving people, and i couldn’t be happier to talk to her, and be friends with who she is today, and accept all her past faults and misconducts.

Now, i’m not trying to project my own circumstances here, because I definitely don’t want to see a few bullies I had in school, but I also broke one of their noses, and drop kicked another, so I feel like i got a bit of payback.

What I’m trying to say here, bottom line, with out all the gabbing, is that people can change. I’m not telling you, or talking down to you like I don’t think you know that, but I’m saying it as a generalization for my conclusion here (and for those who are very adamant that a bad person is permanently a douche canoe).

I don’t believe people are inherently bad. Although a person’s experiences and environment can shape the way they see the world, and how they put themselves forth in it, they can improve themselves. As adults, young adults, and perhaps growing teens who are beyond their years, we can look back and take into consideration that everyone’s issues are at play, and acknowledge that it isn’t always a black and white situation. No one is perfect, but we can strive for it as best as we can.

The majority of KatsuDeku shippers focus on Katsuki making amends, and growing past whatever beastly guise he buried “who he really is” under. I think I speak for most of the KatsuDeku shippers when I say we only want Izuku to get through to him, and for Katsuki to recognize himself, his wrongdoings, and fucking apologize. Most fics are all about redemption, or placed in a setting where it’s already happened. I mean, yes, there’s darker fics, every pairing has those, and it may just seem a little more intense given their past with each other, but really, with KatsuDeku…. I get the feeling a lot of us just really want that witty romcom pairing where they kind of piss each other off, but come together to save the world in the end kinda deal. If it was 2005 or something, we could be having this conversation about Naruto and Sasuke or something, who beat the ever loving shit out of each other, yet still had this deep rooted connected between them (that usually translated to each other through fists and screams, like jesus christ LOL).

Katsuki is also filled with passion and drive, and I think he’s more than a little above average on the attractive meter, so there are those fics where it’s purely them, realizing they can rock each other’s world…

BUT-

I think we all see Katsuki’s insecurity, and want Izuku to continue to try and ease it- but we also don’t want him to be walked all over. We know Katsuki is a nugget of dickcheese. But this kid has also been publicly humiliated in the sports festival, beaten at every aspect of who he is- or what he was suppose to be, taunted and berated by his teachers and peers (which has never been happened before), captured and made to feel helpless, denied of even getting a hero’s training license (so failing at the bare minimum of what he should be doing), and Izuku can understand those feelings more than anyone else i’m sure. Izuku is a fucking VIP in those departments, or at least he was in the past. Katsuki is experiencing what Izuku has gone through, though in different aspects and situations, and Izuku could probably relate on eleven personal levels.

Katsuki and Izuku have history, and share a lot more in common than either of them would like to admit. They arguably have one of the deepest and most complex relationships in the series, and there’s so much more to them than “the bully and the victim.” They share pain and experiences, and though Izuku’s was majorly inflicted by Katsuki, he’s a big enough person to work past that, and be there if Katsuki so happens to work past his own issues. Izuku’s a strong willed motherfucker, and he’s the only thing that Katsuki Bakugou has never truly broken. If Katsuki could see that, and how despite himself, he’s used Izuku as his strength and drive to keep going, they could be unstoppable side by side.

I’d like to see what they could possibly be if Katsuki can manage grow as a person, which he is slowly, but steadily accomplishing. We just want Katsuki to say he’s fucking sorry, and listen to Izuku instead of getting his programmed prejudices, persistent, and intrusive, selfish desires, his need to excel, and pride in the way.

Izuku is strong, and more than capable of taking care of himself now. He’s made it clear he’s done being bullied, and is more than happy to go head to head with Katsuki to be his equal, though it’s kind of clear Katsuki may have seen him as such from the beginning. Still, he’s always reaching out to Katsuki, trying to raise him up despite his aversion to receiving support, and his determination to be on his own- and be number one. That’s the kind of strength one can only muster if they really care about someone I think.

With all that being said, you also asked me why i saw this relationship as healthy. Their current relationship… is not exactly healthy, but more dysfunctional than anything. There isn’t anything “healthy” about their past relationship at all, but now, I think Izuku is capable of pulling his weight. Some good rivalry never hurt anyone in these sorts of animes. This is also fiction. What I see as alright in fictional relationships does not reflect what I think is alright for a real relationship. There needs to be a firm line between fictional relationships and real relationships. Some are easier to establish than others, and it varies in difficulty from person to person.

If I saw two people interacting as Izuku and Katsuki do now, while knowing about their strength and how they butt heads on fairly equal grounds, I probably wouldn’t interfere. People are allowed to fight. People are allowed to argue, but hey, they’re pretty much on equal fighting terms.

If I saw them interacting like they did in middle school, I would be on that so fast, their heads would spin.

Perhaps I’m a bit desensitized or jaded when it comes to subjects like these simply because I’ve experienced some pretty extreme forms of abuse… but when I think of KatsuDeku, I can only hope for the best. KatsuDeku is easy for me to establish as fictional, and even if it wasn’t, where both the boys are now, I think they can handle each other. Their relationship isn’t so abusive currently that red flags start to fly.

Ever heard of Killing Stalking? Red flags there for me personally. Now, that shit straight up (and I don’t use this word lightly because some people just over use it to the point of giving it no meaning and now it’s just a joke to me) triggered me, because before I knew it, I was crying all over myself and having a panic attack, and flash backs, and all that lovely stuff. But it’s fiction. I recognized it as such, and acknowledged that people are allowed to like it, and read it it, draw it, ship it, w/e they want, because chances are they’re aware that this isn’t how a regular couple should function. This isn’t me saying “It’s not bad enough abuse for me to dislike it, because look what it COULD BE” when it comes to our aspiring heros, it’s just…. Izuku isn’t some helpless little kid, and I very much want him to prove that. He’s not a victim anymore.

KatsuDeku isn’t the best of relationships right now, but it’s certainly not the worst, and has a lot of potential to grow and shape into something. Canonly; more than likely they’ll just become friends, because everything is very hetero-normative in japan, though there’s room for a lot more than friendship. They’ve exposed themselves on so many levels that I think they would be even closer because of their past. Concerning fan works; a shit ton of material to play off of here. A pretty interesting date or two lies in store there, lol.

I’m sorry if I didn’t correctly answer your question, or if I made no sense, or rambled, or left things out that were in my thoughts and didn’t quite make it into my… lengthy response here. If I ever came off rude up there, that was not my intention, and was just trying to explain!

Thank you for your question! My sympathies to your past bullying experience, and i’m glad you no longer have to deal with that ;A;

If i wasn’t clear on anything, or should clarify, don’t hesitate to ask!

Have a lovely day!

Jason: "Why couldn't Wonder Woman have adopted me instead?"

HI I WROTE A THING

Cor Et Cerebrum universe bc why not and also I don’t have to do a ton of legwork to get Bruce and Jason to talk.

Gen!Fic
Fluffish
Some language

Jason Todd has been moping around the manor for five weeks when Bruce has finally, finally had enough. He likes having him there, he really does, and most of the time it works out just fine.

Except Jason has picked up the awful, grating habit of muttering, “Why couldn’t Wonder Woman have adopted me instead?” every single time he’s even mildly annoyed. In his defense, Bruce visibly flinched the first time Jason said it, half-joking, and he’s been throwing it around since then probably in hopes of getting a similar reaction which Bruce will not give him the satisfaction of seeing.

Jason is pretty fond of his new catchphrase and the week that Bruce reaches his limit is the same week Jason makes sure he overhears it while Jason is talking to Alfred, Damian, Tim, Dev, and Dick, in that order. The final straw is when he’s sitting on the floor in the study while Bruce works at the desk, and Jason puts his book down to ruffle Titus’ ears and without provocation says it to the dog.

“You’re a good boy,” he says to the drooling face, the dog’s whole body shaking in excitement. “I never had a dog. Why couldn’t Wonder Woman have adopted me instead? She’d let me have a dog.”

Bruce slams the folder in front of him shut and Jason waits for the shout or the tense reassurance that Jason could, in fact, procure a dog if he so desired.

But instead Bruce picks up his cell phone.

“Diana,” he says after a moment. “I have a problem.”

Jason stops petting Titus to listen and Bruce stands and leaves the room.

“Get a bag,” Bruce says stiffly when he returns, Jason still sitting and too shell-shocked to move. “Now.”

And if Bruce is going to take it to the next level, Jason is going to match him step for effing step. He throws stuff in a duffel upstairs and stomps back down toward the front, where he finds Bruce waiting.

“Hurry up,” Bruce says. “She’ll be here soon.”

Jason follows him to the end of the lane where Bruce takes the duffel bag and motions for him to sit down on it. Bewildered, amused, angry, and still silent, Jason complies.

Bruce pulls something out of his pocket and then crouches and safety pins a piece of paper to Jason’s shirt.

“Ow,” Jason mutters, even though the pin didn’t actually prick him.

“Sorry,” Bruce says, and Jason feels a touch of guilt but doesn’t fess up. “We’ll miss you. Have fun.”

And then Bruce leaves.

A few minutes later, a car turns into the drive and stops. The window rolls down and Dev looks at him. Tim is in the passenger seat on the far side, with wide eyes, sipping something orange through a plastic straw.

“Mate,” Dev says, leaning out the window to look around a bit.

“Yep,” Jason says.

The note on his chest says UNACCOMPANIED MINOR. GUARDIAN: DIANA PRINCE.

Jason isn’t a minor but he’ll let this detail slide for now.

“I’m calling his bluff,” Jason says, and Tim snorts.

“Bloody hell,” Dev grumbles and rolls up the window and drives toward the manor.

Another few minutes go by, slow in the early fall afternoon, and then there’s a soft whoosh and Wonder Woman lands on her booted feet in front of him. For all his bravado, he hasn’t actually spent all that much time in front of her, and if he’s honest, she still intimidates him far more than Clark ever does. He forces himself to give her what he hopes is a cheeky grin.

“Hiya,” he says. “Guess you’re the new mom.”

“Your father conveyed such wishes,” she replies solemnly.

She looks up and Jason turns at the sound of footsteps approaching across the fine gravel. It’s Bruce again, this time with a mug in his hand. He raises it to Diana slightly in greeting.

“He is certain?” Diana asks and Jason is starting to feel a little nervous. She sounds so serious.

“Ask him,” Bruce says, with a shrug. He stops and puts one hand in his pocket while he sips the coffee. “He’s been talking about it for months.”

“Are you certain?” Diana asks Jason and Jason is still unwilling to back down. At some point, one of them has to break and either admit it’s a huge farce or beg him to change his mind.

“Yep,” Jason says. “So, whaddaya say we get the frick outta here?”

“I have always wanted a son,” she says, now beaming. “I always thought it unlikely to find one that agreed to the terms of Themyscira.”

“You’ve found him,” Jason says, giving Bruce a slightly alarmed look. He was not made aware of terms.

“Do not trouble yourself,” Diana says, seeing his expression. “Castration is a brave but noble undertaking to dwell among my women. And we are not barbarians. You will be permitted to be sedated for the procedure if you desire it. There is no shame.”

Jason feels the blood rush to his cheeks and then immediately drain from his head.

“The–” is all he gets out. The world around him has gone fuzzy, wrapped in gauze and protected from sound.

He does not hear or see Bruce sputter into his coffee.

But he does turn to look at Bruce after and mistakes the attempt at Bruce’s self-recovery for a dark scowl.

So, Jason figures he brought this on himself.

“Shall we go?” Diana asks.

“I…” Jason looks dumbly down at the note on his chest and tears it off with a frown. “I think I’ll stay,” he says faintly.

“That is unfortunate but understandable. I have reason to believe your current family holds great affection for you,” Diana says kindly.

“Sorry to waste your time,” Bruce says, as Jason climbs to his feet and says a hasty goodbye. The boy goes up into the manor and disappears inside.

“How did I do?” Diana asks, smiling at Bruce.

“Fine,” he says, scant on praise as usual. “The castration bit was a little over the top, don’t you think?”

“It was very effective,” Diana retorts. And Bruce can’t argue with that.

“Thanks again,” Bruce says. “I’m going to go do damage control.”

“It was my pleasure,” Diana says before flying away. Bruce watches her go and then turns back to the house. When he goes inside, Jason is sitting on the steps in the foyer with a defiant glare.

“I wish the Kents had adopted me,” he snaps before Bruce can speak. “They’d never do something like this.”

Bruce opens his mouth and for a long moment, is frozen, but then he laughs and holds out an arm. Jason is still sulking, pretty convincingly for someone wearing combat boots and almost as tall as Bruce.

He steps right into the hug with his arms stiff at his sides and his chin dipped down. Bruce squeezes him, an arm firm around Jason’s shoulders.

“You didn’t really think I’d let her take you, did you?” he asks.

Jason grumbles something indistinct and shakes his head.

“You know she was joking, right?”

“Fuck me,” Jason mutters in disgust and relief at once. “I’m never gonna be able to even look at her again.”

“Give it a few months,” Bruce says. “You’ll survive. And maybe stop throwing your dad out with the bathwater every time I turn around.”

“Are you calling yourself a baby?” Jason asks without looking up, but Bruce can hear the grin in Jason’s voice.

“Maybe. Maybe I’m sensitive.”

Jason barks a laugh against Bruce’s shoulder and steps back.

“Deal,” he says.

“Crap,” Tim says from the top of the stairs. They both look up to where Tim and Damian both have armfuls of books and action figures from Jason’s room.

“Put those back,” Jason orders sharply, already hurrying toward the stairs. “Now, you miscreants.”

“Why did you permit a return policy, Father?” Damian asks, stepping back and tightening his grip. Tim has already fled and abandoned him there. Damian wastes no more time in following and Jason’s heavy boots sound out as he storms down the hall. There are outraged shouts and a scream a moment later.

“Change of heart, sir?” Alfred asks calmly, walking by with a tray of tea things.

“Something like that,” Bruce says, still looking up the stairs and trying to decide if it’s worth intervening. There’s another yell and he decides they’ll come for help if they need it.

Probably.

Maybe.

There’s a loud crash.

He shakes his head and goes upstairs.

“I knew she wasn’t serious,” he mutters to himself when there’s another crash. “Why didn’t I go with her?”

Heathilton/the Schuylers (feat. Martha Laurens as Veronica)

I was originally going to make Theodosia (II) Veronica, but then I did a little research on Martha (John Laurens’ sister) and she just fit the role so much better. This girl seriously needs way more love. Plus, she’s the same generation as the Schuyler Sisters, which makes the rest of the casting a lot less complicated. I tried to make her look similar to John without basically turning her into a genderbent version of him, hopefully it was successful.

Clark Kent - “I just couldn't be alone tonight”

A/N: Just a little something that came to me in the middle of the night whilst half asleep. What could happen when Clark’s significant other finds out he’s Superman.

You’d been dating Clark Kent for about 6 months now after meeting at the Daily Planet where you wrote an entertainment column. Clark loved your writing, but most of all loved the fact that it didn’t take you to any of the dangerous places he and the other journalists would sometimes get sent.

While you’d been taking the relationship slowly, things were starting to feel serious. You’d never spent a night together, but you knew Clark would do anything for you. In fact you’d become the ‘it’ couple at the paper.

The fact that you’d never spent the tonight together made it all the more worrying when Clark appeared on your doorstep at 11 at night, frantically hoping he wasn’t going to wake you.

“Clark?” you asked sleepily, opening your door.

“I’m so sorry, yn, I just couldn’t be alone tonight.”

You stepped aside and let him wander into your apartment. He was so exhausted, not at all how he normally seemed. Around you, he was always upbeat, his whole face radiating life and joy. At work he was serious, yet confident and sure. Now he looked defeated.

“Tea?” you asked heading to the kitchen, not sure what else to do with your boyfriend at this point.

“Yeah, thanks,” he responded, trailing after you and slouching against the worktop.

“Clark, what’s wrong?”

He looked up at you, brows pulled seriously together.

“You ever have a moment, where you’re trying to do the right thing, and so sure you’re doing everything you can to help but the whole world seems to be pushing back? You’re doing everything in your power to be good and righteous and everyone tells you you’re wrong. That you’ll never be good. Like yourself isn’t enough?” he cocked his head to the side, eyes still on you waiting for a response.

“I get the world not seeming to work in your favour, but how could anyone not see the good in you? You’re so sweet and kind.”

Clark opened and closed his mouth, clearly debating with himself what he should tell you, before deciding on, “if I tell you my greatest secret, do you promise you won’t treat me any differently?”

“Clark, you’re scaring me,” you said, ignoring the hissing of the boiled kettle behind you. “Of course I won’t treat you differently, as long as you don’t me.”

He bowed his head and removed his glasses, pinching the bridge of his nose before slowly looking back up at you.

“I’m Superman,” he said, not quite making eye contact.

You stepped closer to him. Reaching out a hand you tilted his head up until his eyes met yours. They were tinged with worry and sadness.

“Oh Clark,” you sighed out, before pulling him in to rest his head on your shoulder. “Whatever else you may be, you’re still my boyfriend and a good man. I’ve never once heard of Superman doing anything but the right thing, and saving lives. Anyone who says otherwise is a prejudiced fear monger.”

“You still like me?” he asked moving away slightly.

“Of course I do. I’m not gonna lie, I’ve noticed the similarities between you and Superman before. I mean, you’re my boyfriend, and our paper prints plenty of pictures of the other guy. Part of me didn’t believe you could be, the other part of me knew if it was true you’d tell me in time.”

“But, all this power, you’re not scared?”

“In what world would I ever be scared of you? Just because you’ve now told me, it doesn’t somehow make you a different person. You’re still Clark Kent, and I still love you,” you gently placed your hands either side of his face. “You’d never hurt me,” you whispered, lightly brushing your lips over his.

He lifted his hands to your back, holding you close and briefly deepened the kiss.

“So, do think I could stay the night?” he half smiled, the exhaustion on his face now tinged with relief.

“Of course,” you smiled back, taking his hand and forgetting all about the half made tea.

Dear Koryos: Can you imagine a universe wherein bats have become the ancestors of some kind of Highly Intelligent Life Form (not necessarily humanlike intelligence, but something as different from today-bats as humans are different from Ancient Primate Ancestor)? I originally just was thinking about what kind of Cultural Norms such beings would have, but then I realized I couldn't really imagine anything except bat-shaped things that more or less thought like humans.

I’ve sat on this question a while because it’s such an interesting one to me. The biggest issue here is that you’d have to specify which bats you’re making your theoretical ancient ancestor, because there’s such a vast diversity of behavior within the group. A vampire bat would be different from a sac-winged bat would be different from a hoary bat would be different from a flying fox ancestor, is what I’m saying. Any social or behavioral organization paradigm that you can think of, there’s a bat that has it.

So to think about what a sapient bat would look like, we first need to assess the intelligence and behavior of possible ancestral bats. And here I’m gonna stick a readmore, because this gets looooong.

Hello! So I was scouring the Internet for advice today but I couldn't find any on this topic. My problem isn't that I don't have any ideas (I probably have too many) but the problem is that I don't LOVE any of my ideas. I like them. I think they're all fine ideas. But liking them isn't going to motivate me long enough to finish a novel. How can I give my ideas that extra uumph to make me love them? How can I figure out what's missing or why I don't feel this way about any of my ideas?

Hello, nonny!  What a challenging question…  This one’s been in my inbox a couple days, just because it’s such a big question.  But I’ve thought it over and I think I have some ideas for you :)

The Thrill Is Gone – How to Find It Again

So generally, there’s no one answer or cure-all to this problem.  I’ve had this issue multiple times, with different causes.  My first novel didn’t have enough meat to the plot; my second novel had been over-planned in my head to the point that it no longer excited me.  My third novel had way too much plot, so that by the time I got ¾ the way through, I’d written over 200K words and felt sick of the idea.  I started my fourth novel way too soon, and am now going back and planning it more!  So there are obviously many different reasons that a story doesn’t take off (or dries up eventually).

The first step is to figure out what’s missing, like you said.  There are a few aspects of your story to assess…

1. Plot

I’m discussing plot first because, to me, it’s the most important part of fiction.  Plot, conflict, and stakes are foremost to my stories.  You could have the most complex and sympathetic characters, but without plot, they’re static and become boring.  But for some reason, this is the part of story ideas that new authors neglect most!

So if your story has great characters and an immersive setting, but you can’t get into it, try asking a few questions about your plot:

  • What is the point of the plot?  What’s the message you’re conveying in the story?  Even if your story isn’t an allegory or a metaphor or the next Chronicles of Narnia, there should always be a conclusion to which all plots arrive – otherwise, the story can feel aimless.  The best way to find your message is to look at the conflicts involved (e.g. Man vs. Man, Man vs. Nature, etc.) and find the “winner”.  What worldview, belief, or concept “defeats” the other concepts?  It can be as simple as Good vs. Evil, or more complex, like Loving the Sincere Drug Addict vs. Settling for the Selfish Dentist (provokes the question “Is love worth danger in relationships?”).
  • Does the plot have ups and downs?  And really consider both ends of the spectrum here.  Stories become dull if they are made up of victory after victory – or if they’re made up of nothing but loss and tragedy.  No matter the genre, you have to strike some sort of balance, lest the story become predictable and emotionally non-engaging.  Find victories and failures, even in unassuming places, to keep readers invested and hopeful.
  • Do you have a satisfactory ending?  Or do you have the ending     planned yet?  I’ve found that I can’t really commit to an idea unless I see a resolution – otherwise I feel too nervous to start.  If you do have an ending planned, make sure it’s the right ending.  It can feel like there’s one possible conclusion, and once you’ve found it, you stick to it – but question it, brainstorm it.  It may not be a happy ending every time, but when you find the right one, you’ll know it.
  • Do you have the right plot at all?  Look at your story as a whole.  Does it start too early or too late, relative to the real meat,     the real action?  Is it told from the most impactful POV?  Does the plot cover too much ground for one book, or is it not enough to fill the pages?  Consider all the characters, backstories, and subplots you have, and ask yourself if any of them are more interesting than the main plot.  If so, shift your focus.  Use them instead.

2. Characters

Maybe it’s not your plot that’s going sideways.  Maybe you have it all worked out – the head, the tail, the whole damn thing – but it still doesn’t feel right.  It doesn’t feel like it’s coming to life, somehow.  It feels flat.

That can be a character problem.  It would be like sitting by the campfire and hearing the most fascinating, horrifying story, except it’s told by a man with The Most Boring Voice Who Talks So Incredibly Slowly and Takes All the Fun Out of Everything.  An example: The Hunger Games.  Those books bored the crap out of me.  Unless someone was being killed or Haymitch and Effie were interacting, I just didn’t care.  And those books had a great plot behind them!

So here’s what you need for a good cast of characters:

  • A solid protagonist.  Solid = three-dimensional, empathetic, and relatable; having a goal, an internal conflict, a self-image, and fears or shame.  They should have different facets of themselves – their head and their heart, their desires and doubts, and that little voice in their head that says, “Give up on that.  Be realistic.”  Give them strengths, weaknesses, and a couple of bad habits, for kicks.
  • A variety of supporting characters.  You don’t have to have thirty characters + six secret characters stuffed under your trench coat; but with however many characters you have, make them as different from each other as possible.  Give them some similarities, of course, so that they can relate to each other – but never make them so close together that you have to decide, “Who should say this line?  Character A or Character B?”  Make them unique enough that the words come out of their mouths, instead of you having to decide where to put the words, yourself.
  • Relationships, relationships, relationships.  And I’m not talking about romantic relationships.  I mean, sure, those too – but there are many different kinds of relationships to explore.  Friendships, enemy-ships (?), parent relationships, sibling-ships, silent alliances, “annoying friend-of-a-friend”-ships, “my-ex’s-little-sister”-ships, “you’re-the-ruler-of-the-galaxy-and-a-Sith-lord-but-also-my-dad-please-stop-being-evil”-ships…  You get the idea.  Make them unique, make them strong, and allow them to evolve over the course of the story.
  • Diverse morals, interests, and personalities.  My first short stories focused on white middle-class people who were culturally and politically identical.  They lived in one house, usually, and watched the same TV shows and made the same references.  They had the same sense of humor.  They rarely disagreed on anything that wasn’t clear-cut (e.g. “You drank the last Pepsi!”  “I was thirsty!”).  So do yourself a favor and don’t make my mistakes.  Give your characters unique ethics, cultures, backgrounds, personalities, goals, appearances, and conflicts.  You’ll be more invested by then, I’m sure.

3. Setting

Lastly, I’d like to add that while your characters and plot could be well-developed, there’s always a chance that they’re placed in the wrong setting.  This is why many story ideas can seem great, but won’t get off the ground – maybe they’re set in a pre-made universe like Middle Earth or Panem when they could be their own story.  Maybe your tragic romance is set in the middle of apocalyptic war, when instead, it should be drained down to a period piece.  Maybe your story is perfect, except you’re writing it too close to home – in the real world, in the present year.  There are a million factors to picking the right setting, including:

  • Applicable history and culture.  If you’re writing a story about someone who’s oppressed, or someone who’s a politician, or someone who’s a witch, you’re going to need to back that up with history.  Develop a history for the oppression or politics or witchcraft – where these things began, how they developed over time – and a culture for them now – how oppressed people survive and how witches in your world interact, etc.
  • Imaginative scenery, influenced by the characters.  Even if your story takes place in New York City in 2017, allow your characters’ living spaces and workplaces to have a unique touch – colors and quirks that your readers can see in their mind.  If even you can’t see what you’re writing, inspiration is going to be difficult to find.
  • A lifelike background.  Just because the plot focuses on your characters does not mean everything going on behind it should be quiet and dead.  Anyone who looks out a window in a city building can see other people living – people on the highway will see other cars taking other people other places.  Everyone who has a friend will hear a little something about their friend’s siblings, their friend’s friends, their friend’s neighbors.  Life and stories exist outside of your plot; make sure you’re not writing about a ship in a bottle.
  • An aesthetic.  That sounds gross and teen-tumblr-y, but let me tell you personally: I don’t feel truly ready to write (and love) my story until I can hear the music for the future movie adaptation – until I can see the kind of clothes the people wear, the games they play, the places they eat and shop.  I think of the colors and themes in my scenes (e.g. my first novel was set primarily at night in a grunge/city setting; my current novel is very green and outdoorsy and gives me that feeling of bonfires just after sunset).  Once you get that “feeling” from your story, you’ll know it.

Anyway, this reply took me like three days to write because I really wanted to get into it.  I hope some of this helps you to fall in love with one of your ideas, so you can get started :)  If you have any more questions, be sure to send them in!

(I have 26 questions in the inbox, though, so be patient with me…)

Letter

It’s Valentines day and I’m forever alone so I’m writing super fluffy things and one heartbreak because I'm evil

Another owl lands in front of you holding a red envelope. You offer the bird a treat and take the envelope. This was the 5th one today, apparently, boys thought you were quite a catch and kept sending you Valentine’s day cards. You only had sights on one boy, who was head over heals for another girl. You could sense the cliche.

“Oo! Another one huh y/n” your friend teases.

You roll your eyes and tear open the envelope. A smoke unicorn hops out of the envelope and prances around. You stare in awe as it leaves a trail of pink smoke. It stops in front of you and bows before disappears in a puff of smoke and leaves a small card that smells of Cinnamon. You pick up the card and look at it. The border is a shimmery gold and the writing is messy but a cute messy

Your heart is so golden that a Niffler would paw at your heart

Seeing you makes my stomach flutter like I have a million Billywigs inside

I get so nervous around you I wish I could turn invisible like a Demiguise

You’re more magnificent than a Thunderbird

I would be honored if you would meet me outside of Honeydukes this Valentines.

“Who was that from?” you friend asks. You look all over the card but couldn't find a name.

“I don’t know” you reply.

Names crossed your mind as you were trying to figure out who sent the letter. A certain animal lover with floppy hair and shy demeanor crossed your mind but you shook it away, he probably liked someone else.

“Are you going to go?” They ask.

“Yeah, I think I will.”

You spent the rest of the day wondering who sent the letter to you. You walked into potions and sit down.

“Okay class, since its almost valentines day. I thought we could brew Amortentia” your professor says.

“Does anyone know what Amortentia is?” your professor asks.

A boy in the back raises his hand, “Amortentia is the world’s strongest love potion. It smells like what the person loves most”.

“Fantastic, 10 points to Hufflepuff” they say. They write down the intricate steps on the board.

“Once you successfully finish and I check it off, you will write down what you smell. It will be confidential, Please begin.”

You turn to your partner and see they’re deep in conversation with a boy. You roll your eyes and get up to grab the ingredients.  You grabbed some rose thorns and powdered moonstone. You were searching for peppermint when someone tapped your shoulder. You turned and see Newt Scamander standing behind you holding out the last ingredient you needed.

“Um, Thanks Newt” you say taking the leaves.

“No problem, I saw you were looking for some and I had extra so” he explains.

You both awkwardly stand in silence before Newt breaks the silence.

“I better get back to my potion. You know, before my partner blows up the cauldron. Again.” Newt says.

You giggle at the memory of his partner blowing his eyebrows off. Newt turns and his eyes widen.

“WAIT DARVIN THATS THE WRONG INGREDIENT!” Newt yells as he scrambles over to Darvin before he could ruin the potion.

A small smile appears as you watch Newt focus on his potion. He looked up at you and you averted your eyes. You walked back to your desk and started the potion.

“Well done Y/n, Now, write down what you smell and turn it in.” Your professor tells you.

You nod and pull out some parchment. You leaned over your potion. Cinnamon, lavender, freshly cut wood and something else you couldn’t figure out. You wrote down what you smelled and stood up to turn in your potion and your paper.

“Ah Y/n, I need your help. Can you please organize these papers by alphabetical order, please” Your professor orders.

You pick up the papers and go through them. You tried only looking at the names but when you came across Newt’s, it was hard to resist. You looked down and saw what he wrote.

“Rain, freshly baked cookies, and perfume” you murmur quietly.

Perfume? Your heart sank a little, you didn’t really wear perfume. Only on special occasions so he must have smelled someone else’s perfume. You finished organizing the papers and left.

You flopped down on your bed and pulled out the little card you got this morning. You smiled at the words. You decided to meet up with this mystery man tomorrow. You fell asleep with the card still clutched in your hand. You failed to notice that the handwriting on the card was similar to writing you saw earlier today.

You stood outside honeydukes fidgeting with your hands. They didn’t give you a specific time, what if we miss each other? What if this was all a joke? Maybe one of your friends was messing with you. You felt the stares from couples walking past you. You felt awkward so you went into Honeydukes.

You walked around and hid in a corner. You felt silly waiting for someone you weren’t even sure was coming. You bought some chocolate frogs so the lady wouldn’t think it was weird you were just standing in the store for so long. You walked out and started heading back to the castle.

“Y/N! Wait!” You turned around and saw a very flustered Newt.

“I’m sorry I was late, er well, I’m sorry I didn’t put a time on the card. You see i was so focused on actually getting myself to write a letter to you that I forgot to put important details” Newt explains in a rushed voice.

“You sent the note? With the smoke unicorn?” you ask.

You were skeptical, there is no way your crush could have sent that. Way to cliche.

“Why yes I did. D-did you not like?” He asks, his face falling a bit.

“No No, I adored it! It was so beautiful. How did you manage to conjure something like that?” you ask.

Newt smiles and pulls out his wand. His face changes to his look of concentration and he drew a small unicorn. It pranced around and disappeared.

“I asked Flintwood to teach me. I saw all those other guys ask you and I felt like I needed to do something special” Newt admits.

“You didn’t have to do anything special Newt. You are one of the most amazing people I have ever met. I mean your so smart and cute and a little awkward and you know so much about animals,” you say. You notice Newt staring at you.

“Sorry, that must sound really creepy” you say looking at the ground.

“Do you really think that about me?” Newt asks, almost afraid of your answer.

You look back up and nod your head, “Of course I do. You are something extraordinary Mr. Scamander” you say.

“Oh! I almost forgot!” Newt exclaims.

He sticks his wand in his mouth and rummages through his bag. He tried speaking but it was muffled by the wand. He pulls out a little journal with a bow on it.

“Mrf-hrfe bhm” Newt tries to say.

“Newt, wand” you remind him. He takes his wand out of his mouth and sticks it behind his ear.

“I was trying to say, I would have wrapped it but I learned I am quite horrible at wrapping” He explains. you open up the journal and notice there are moving creatures on every page.

“Newt this is amazing. I didn’t get you anything. Oh I feel horrible now” you say.

“It’s okay, I wanted to get you it and you don’t have to get me anything” Newt says.

“Well thank you so much Newt” you lean and kiss his cheek. His blush returns and he starts fidgeting again.

“I have some chocolate frogs, here” you say handing him one.

“Thank you y/n, I’ll cherish it forever” Newt jokes

“Care to accompany me to the three broomsticks?” you ask.

“I would love to” he replies. You grab his hand and intertwine your fingers.

“Would you ever like to be on a chocolate frog?” you ask randomly.

“It would certainly be an achievement, but what could i do that would deem me worthy of such a thing?” Newt asks.

“Oh, i’m sure you’ll do something amazing Newt,” you say “Maybe it will have to do with Beasts” you suggest.

“Ah yes, I see it now, Small boy on chocolate frog card for helping magical creatures” Newt says rather dramatically. You let out a laugh that makes Newt smile more.

“That perfume, you’ve worn it before right?” Newt asks.

“I wore it the first day of school, I think” you reply, “Why?”

“No reason” Newt says.

You shrug it off and put your head on Newts shoulder. You breathed in his coat smell and almost tripped when you recognized the smell. You smiled to yourself and held Newts hand a little tighter.

FLUFFITY FLUFF FLUFF FLUFF OMFG. I am. *sings off key* Forever alone. Happy Valentines y’all Hope someone treats you like Newt Scamander would.

I discovered your fic Take Me to Church this week and gobbled it up. In doing so I couldn't help but notice that you share a strong music theme as is in the story Waiting For the Spark from Heaven to Fall by hollyethecurious and was curious if you realized you had copied that theme? Otherwise I love your story!

Nonnie, I’m sure you didn’t mean to open this can of worms, but unfortunately, here we are.

Yes, there are prevalent themes of music in Take Me To Church and Let Go of the Life You’ve Planned. And the reason why? Because @hollyethecurious copied my story.

Back in February of this year, I was approached by Hollye here on Tumblr. She told me that she had been struggling with her writing, and to get back into gear, she’d used an old college technique. She took a story she liked and reworked it into her own version, which was Take Me To Church.

I was very flattered at first, because very little can make you feel better as a writer than having someone come to you and say, “Your words inspired me to put pen to paper!” However, she was telling me about this because she wanted my permission to submit the story to the Captain Swan Big Bang. She assured me that, if I granted that permission, she would give credit to me and my story as the inspiration when she posted.

I was really unsure because as many of you know, I have put so much effort into Take Me To Church. I have poured countless, frustrating hours into planning it, writing it, and revising it. So for someone to rework the story and submit it to a fandom project where someone else would make artwork for it made me uncomfortable.

However, I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt, so I told her that I would need to read the work before I could say yes. She said she would, and sent me a document on the same day. Instead of sending me the whole draft, she sent me a single scene, along with an outline with plot points. I was instantly uncomfortable with the similarities; not only was the plot extremely similar, but she had used an exact line from Take Me To Church.

The next day, I expressed my concerns and explained that if she wanted to revise it so that it was really an original fan work, I would be happy to help her. She declined my offer, saying that it would require that she rewrite too much of the story, and with the strict deadlines of the CSBB, she didn’t think she would be able to. She then asked me if she could send me the whole story to look over, because she didn’t want to give up hope of it ever being read.

The document she sent me was well over 60k words, not simply a few random scenes, which told me that she’d been working on this story long before she contacted me. As was the case with the first document she sent, with the single scene, the story was full of similarities. I told her as much, that it was too similar, and I was not okay with her submitting it to the CSBB. She accepted my decision and said she would think of something else to submit to the CSBB.

However, later that same day, she got back in touch to ask if she could post the story to various fic platforms (AO3, FFnet, Tumblr) once the fandom “died down.” I repeated myself: that I was not comfortable with the story as is, that it would need to be extensively reworked to be an original fanwork, and that I was more than happy to help her do that since I happen to be the expert on Take Me To Church. She did not reply and I mistakenly believed that was the end of things.

At the end of May, I was contacted by a third party about a post Hollye had made on Tumblr. The post explained that she was going to be publishing her story at the beginning of June. I immediately contacted her and asked if she was able to take out the similarities, and expressed my surprise that she had been reworking it, since she never replied to my last message. She told me she had worked with “other individuals” who were familiar with Take Me To Church to take out the similarities. Given that these other individuals were not myself or even my beta-reader (the two people who know Take Me To Church the best), I asked once again to read over the finished product to confirm that it had been sufficiently reworked. She refused and began posting the story shortly afterwards.

Since she began posting, I have received messages from multiple people pointing out the similarities between Take Me To Church and Let Go of the Life You’ve Planned. And, like this message, some of them have implied that I might have been copying her. I cannot begin to express how devastating this is, that I could pour my heart and soul into writing something, and have someone else rework it and then refuse to give me my right to protect my work. I have cried over this, and I am infuriated.

There are several reasons why I waited so long to speak up, and they’re fucking important, so listen up:

First off, we’ve had a lot of fandom drama over plagiarism. The fact is, there are lots of stories that are all based around similar ideas, so sometimes you get similar stories. It does happen, and there’s no avoiding it.

But this is not like that. This isn’t like two people writing two different Priest Killian stories. I know this because I’ve read pretty much every Priest Killian story. I’m one of the people who runs the Priest Killian Network. And I can guarantee you that this isn’t just another Priest Killian story; it’s my Priest Killian story reworked and posted by someone else without my permission. The similarities go far past the basic plot. And this isn’t even me being paranoid, since Hollye told me that she reworked my story when she approached me.

The second reason I waited to speak up is because I think it’s important to be kind, understanding, and encouraging. I didn’t want to be an asshole about this, and so when Hollye continued to ask for permission, it was difficult for me to give her a hard no. I wanted it to be okay for her to revise it and post it, which is why I kept making my offer to help her with it instead of just telling her, “Sorry, no.” I regret it now because now I feel taken advantage of.

Finally, I admit that I kind of hoped nothing would happen when she started posting, or that maybe I’d even get more readers, since she said she would give me credit. However, at no point has she even mentioned me or Take Me To Church. Not only does this feel like a deliberate move to hide the fact that she copied my story, it also means that people who notice similarities might think, like this nonnie, that I copied her story.

You didn’t ask for the whole story, nonnie, but you’re getting it so that you or anyone else who questions the validity of my work will know the truth. I don’t want to have to waste my time answering another question like this when I’m already upset over this whole situation. Meanwhile, you might want to check publication dates before you imply that someone is copying someone else. Take Me To Church was published August 24th, 2015, almost two years before Let Go of the Life You’ve Planned was first posted.

Anyway, I’m bloody pissed over this whole thing and honestly now I don’t even care who knows it.

EDITED: The other story in question has now been taken down from all sites by the author.

So, an angsty soulmate au with Oikawa with a quiet, fem!reader who's in same class as him. She had known that he was her soulmate, but didn't approach him because she thought he wouldn't like her cos he's so popular/ dates a lot of pretty girls.

Angst for The Grand Trash King coming right up, my dear.

You had never been a popular person and you preferred it that way. You would rather be left alone to you own devices than be constantly surrounded by people, like a certain flamboyant person you knew. “He really pisses me off.” Iwaizumi grumbled to you, annoyed at the sound of the squealing girls interrupting his lunch yet again.

You couldn’t help but nod in agreement to your friend’s statement, but you completely understood why all his fans acted that way. They all wanted him to be their soulmate so they had to constantly crowd the brunet to see if his eyes would change color. Some even went so far as to get a colored contact to match with one of his eye colors, but that strategy didn’t really work since their eye color wouldn’t change no matter what they did. And it would never change because you were his soulmate.

You had recently been flipping through a sports magazine your half-brother had left at home which featured Oikawa and it had an article with the setter’s eye colors. You were shocked when you saw the colors and immediately ran to the bathroom to check. You nearly dropped the magazine when you held it up to the mirror. It was an exact match. “No no no no no-this has got to be wrong, I can’t be his soulmate.” But the more you looked at the colors, the more apparent it became that they matched your own. There was no denying it. You were, in fact, the Oikawa Tooru’s soulmate. Most people, if they found out that their soulmate was someone so famous and good looking, would jump at the chance to tell them and immediately start a relationship. But you were the complete opposite.

You spent hours mulling over the situation, trying to figure out how to avoid the brunet setter, but the two of you shared many of the same classes. Luckily, you had somehow been able to avoid his attention for the majority of the years, but now that you knew, you could only hope that you could keep avoiding him. But even if Oikawa didn’t notice you, Iwaizumi would and you knew that he would be able to tell that something was off.

There was only one solution you could think of that would help in this situation. Colored contacts. The thing that everyone did to try and get his attention, you would do in order to stay away from him. It wasn’t that you hated Oikawa or held a grudge against him; you actually thought he was quite handsome; it was because you were scared. You were scared of what his fans would do to you if you ever did try to approach him, but what scared you the most was that he wouldn’t like you back. You had seen him with so many beautiful girls and you vastly paled in comparison to them. You were just shy girl with average looks, there was no way he would even give you the time of day to even get him to look at you, let alone confess.

Luckily, you remembered that your friend had wanted you to dress up to model for her and she had given you colored contacts for the shoot. Rifling through your drawers, you found the small blue and white case and opened it up to see the small pieces of colored material still there and in perfect condition. You carefully placed one of the contacts on the tip of your finger and gently placed the colored lens into your right eye, covering up the chocolate brown color and replacing it with a deep olive green. “There, he won’t be able to tell now.”

You still had this gnawing guilt in the pit of your stomach when you showed up to school the next day and you did your best to act normal, avoiding Oikawa like you usually did. But when you got to your class, you saw a handwritten note sitting there in the middle of your desk. Opening up the piece of parchment, you found beautifully written words asking you to come to the back of the gym at the end of school. Your heart was practically beating out of your chest and you hid the note away in you notebook. You were so distracted, you didn’t even notice a certain setter watching your every move.

Oikawa had always been subtly trying to catch your attention for the past year, but you had always slipped away at the last moment when his fans crowded him. One of his fans had showed him a picture of you and he immediately noticed the similarities in eye color. If his intuition was right, and you were actually his soulmate, he would be the happiest person on the planet. But when you finally met him at the back of the gym, his hopes and heart were completely shattered.

He thought it was you. He had always thought it was you. But you weren’t. Although you were incredibly shy and never really interacted with anyone except Iwaizumi, he was so incredibly infatuated with you. Whenever you were around, he constantly felt a mysterious pull to you, but when he looked into your eyes nothing happened. No change, not even a flicker of color. Even the hue of your other eye was a completely distinct coloration compared to his own. There was no denying it then.

You, on the other hand, saw something completely different. You saw his other eye change from a shade of (e/c) into that beautiful chocolate brown that you had grown so familiar to seeing in the mirror every day. You were his soulmate and he was yours. But Oikawa didn’t need to know that. He didn’t need you as a burden for the rest of his life. You knew it was unfair of you to not tell him, but you couldn’t bring yourself to tell him either. “Sorry Oikawa. I’m not your soulmate.“

"Yeah, I’m sorry for taking up your time.” An awkward silence fell between the two of you before you spoke up to break the tension. “You should get going before Iwaizumi-san hits you again.” The setter wanted to say something, anything to try and explain his feelings to you, but nothing came out when he opened his mouth to speak.

You smiled sadly at the brunet before turning around and walking away from the down-hearted setter. The longer he watched your retreating back, the more his heart ached. Why was that? You weren’t his soulmate. He saw it for himself; your eyes didn’t match his when he looked at you. So why did watching you leave hurt so damn much?

“_________.” The familiar baritone voice made you stop in your tracks and you looked up to see your half-brother waiting for you at the gate. Immediately, a smile broke across your face and you hurried your way over to him. You almost never saw the older male due to his dedication to volleyball, so seeing him here was a real treat. “Wakatoshi! What are you doing here?”

“It has been a while since I came home, so I decided to come see you.” As you walked away, hand in hand with his arch nemesis, the uncomfortable tightening sensation spread from his heart to his entire body. That was supposed to be him. He wanted to be the one holding your hand and walking you home from school, not him. He wanted to be the one to make you smile like you were now, not him. Even now, Ushijima had taken everything he had wanted away from him and there was nothing he could do about it except to try to ignore the gaping void in his heart.

If only he knew.

«She fancied Gehrman, unaware of his curious "mania", but was left heartbroken when Gehrman couldn't, or wouldn't, reveal his feeling towards her.» WTF, fextralife?!

Thank you fextralife! ~♡
No okay let’s be serious for a second and put aside my fangirl heart that craves for the damn romance and let’s look at the facts, shall we?

Let’s begin with the Hair Ornament and how the Doll reacts to it.

The item is described as “ordinary” and does look as such. This is not something fit for a woman of noble lineage like Maria is, is the sort of gift that a middle-class Yharnamite would give his fiancee. In fact, I would say that the Red Jewelled Brooch that Gascoigne gave to his wife looks way fancier and in line with what a Cainhurst noble would wear than the plain, ordinary hair ornament.

Giving little tokens of affection before the marriage was a no-no for Victorian lovebirds unless the couple openly expressed the intention to get married and both families agreed to the arrangement.

In Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen, Marianne Dashwood’s spontaneous behaviour is considered unorthodox and her (only rumoured!) clandestine engagement with John Willoughby is heavily frowned upon. One of her biggest ‘sins’ was to have sent John a bunch of letters and locks of her hair that the young man respectfully gives back to her before marrying another woman.

So, if we take for granted that Yharnam’s courtship customs are similar to those of the 19th century’s I think it’s safe to assume that if an unmarried man gave something as cute and personal as a hairpin to an unmarried woman he was clearly saying “hey babe I like you. But I haven’t the slightest idea of what I’m doing and I should’ve finish that “how to pick up fair maidens” book before doing anything on my own” :P

Of course, we can’t take Victorian society and expect Yharnam’s to be exactly the same because of all the obvious differences such as the clearly more prominent role of women in society, (Amelia is the highest authority of the Church, many hunters are women, Viola, though traditionally married, takes instant action to help her husband etc) but I still think it to be a good lens through which seeing the game’s world and it surely gives some extra credit to Gehrman’s conscious decision to hide his feelings from Maria.

Now, on the subject of Plain Doll, if we gave her the Hairpin she says this:

What… what is this? I-I can’t remember, not a thing, only… I feel… A yearning… something I’ve never felt before… What’s happening to me? Ahh… Tell me hunter, could this be joy? Ahh…

And as she speaks, they even took the time to actually animate her so that she would wipe her tears and gave us the Tear Stone:

Now, the dialogue itself is enough for me to say that Maria had feelings for Gehrman because there’s _no way_ that mere admiration and/or respect for the guy would make her surrogate, who only shares a few, blurred memories with her, cry tears of joy. But hey, we could say that since Plain Doll was “made” to love her creator her perception could be warped by what Gehrman wants her to feel towards him. So, let’s read what the lore has to say about this ;) let’s turn the Tear Stone into a Blood Gem!

Created from a shining silver doll tear, this blood gem is a quiet but unfaltering friend that continually restores HP, the life essence of a hunter. Perhaps the doll’s creator had wished for just such a friend, albeit in vain

BOOM! “Albeit in vain”… and here it is why I think Gehrman doesn’t talk to/doesn’t care about and is openly dismissive of the Doll. She is not the woman he used to know but a pale imitation. She doesn’t have Maria’s memories, she is nothing like the hunter that fought by his side, the strong and kind woman he secretly fell in love with. Before Moon Presence brought the Doll to life, Gehrman poured love and care into her creation that most likely happened after Maria’s passing. All item descriptions related to the Doll include this bit:

“A deep love for the doll can be surmised by the fine craftsmanship of this article, and the care with which it was kept.“
It borderlines on mania, and exudes a slight warmth.”

Which once again, reinforce my idea that my boi Gehrman cared for Maria not _just_ because she was hot. He doesn’t dress her up in revealing clothes nor does he keep her hunter attire while retaining elements of it such as the brooch and her boots. Maria killed herself after renouncing her life as a hunter, her conscience forever stained by what she and her teacher had done to the inhabitants of Fishing Hamlet. Dressing the doll in her hunter set would have been an even greater insult to her memory. Gehrman’s decision to dress her up in the seemly clothes of a respectable woman of the time is actually pretty tasteful if you ask me. May look strange and “unnecessary cute” to us modern-day players but that’s how women used to dress. Take a look at this picture of Mia Wasikowska’s in this movie adaptation of Jane Eyre. The reason why I pick this movie is its director, Cary Fukunaga who also directed the first season of the award-winning HBO series True Detective. (a show inspired by R.W Chambers and Lovecraft’s nihilism & cosmic dread.) This too is a pretty dark and spooky rendition of Charlotte Brontë’s classic.

But no more talking about Gehrman, let’s get back to Maria:

Among the first hunters, all students of Gehrman, was the lady hunter Maria. This was her hunter’s [cap/garb/gloves/trousers], crafted in Cainhurst.
Maria is distantly related to the undead queen, but had great admiration for Gehrman, unaware of his curious mania.  [Maria’s Hunter Set]

This description tells us a lot of things, but most of them are irrelevant to the subject of this analysis. I could go on for hours pointing out the similarities of her set to the Knight’s and other Cainhurst fashion but let’s not do that. What matters here is that Maria, despite being of noble blood, had no social prejudice towards her mentor (and I would assume, any of her fellow hunters.) and, just like Gwyn’s firstborn, “had respect only for arms and nothing else” :P

I wouldn’t say that the reason why she was heartbroken was the fact that Gehrman never revealed his feelings to her (as mentioned in the ask) but that she idolized him and the cause of the Byrgenwerth Hunters as a whole and couldn’t bear the guilt once the college’s research pushed their actions too far. Like Ludwig who had an unshakable faith in the ways of the Healing Church, Maria had faith in and was possibly in love with Gehrman and couldn’t believe that the man she admired so deeply would blindly obey Byrgenwerth’s orders.

“Go and kill those fishmen who did nothing wrong and aren’t bothering anyone. Oh, and be sure to rip that umbilical cord from the body of thad Great One that washed ashore.”

“Yep.” No question asked.

THAT’s why Maria felt betrayed. It hasn’t anything to do with Gehrman’s “mania”. In my headcanons Gehrman’s total obedience to Willem is motivated but there’s no solid proof in canon so let’s just say that Gehrman was an idiot who never questioned the orders from above :/

And now, let’s get to the final, FUNDAMENTAL point of this analysis: did Maria love Gehrman back?

Yes she did. Why else would anyone want to take a look at any picture one last time before killing themselves? To remember what they lost or could’ve had if things were different.

Why am I 100% sure that Gehrman is in that picture? Because in canon we don’t know the name of any other member of the Old Hunters. It’s just the two of them: Gehrman and Maria, the only ones with faces and backstory in a crowd of faceless, bloodthirsty mannequins.

Here you go, thanks Fextralife.

Im sorry for askking you 2 times in a row i feel like a creep but i couldn't resist so can i have a scenario where bakugou's female mate gets taken away from him you can chose which rank they are in

It’s no problem! I love angst uwu. Thank you for the request! I made Bakugo an Alpha and his s/o an omega, because I just feel like that bond is so much stronger. And there would be more consequences due to separation. Also first scenario!~

She was gone.

His mate, his omega.

If that handsy-looking motherfucker did anything remotely related to coming close to her, he was going to rip him to pieces.

No, he was going to rip him to pieces anyway.

But Bakugo was locked up in the back of a van by the teachers of UA. They knew what he was capable of, and they locked him up even before telling him what had happened to you, aware of the consequences of not being prepared for his reaction.

All he could do was scream, cry for his omega; he needed her more than life itself. The separation between an alpha and an omega was truly saddening, heartbreaking and potentially dangerous. Every omega within a mile radius could hear his cries, acknowledging it as an alpha without his mate.

Bakugo could do nothing but cry, wail as explosions never ceased within the cuffs that covered his hands. His forearms began to throb, but he didn’t care. He needed to show everyone that you were his. Needed to give that crumbling-fucktard a fucking lesson as to whose omega he’s fucking with. She was his and his alone. No other bitch alpha could even look at her. He needs to take her, make sure she’s completely covered in his essence, his scent, inside and out.

God, he was going to fucking kill this dude.

Bakugo could only imagine the things he could be doing to her. It made his skin crawl. He could feel a pain in his stomach at the thought of being away from her any longer. All he could see was the dark insides of this tin can of a fucking car! He had to go claim his mate! Show her that her alpha is him.

At the verge of insanity, the doors opened, revealing the bright street lamps of where they had been parked. It’s night time already? How long has he been in here? But that’s when he heard her cries.

Her trembling form was in front of him, a blanket enveloping her shoulders as Aizawa escorted her to where Bakugo was situated. She was distressed at seeing Bakugo in such a state, all bound up, and smelling the strong pheromones of loss and desperation at being away from his mate lingering in the air. She shook Aizawa’s hand off of her shoulder, running to him as fast as she could.

Bakugo’s heart was in his throat. She’s okay. She’s home now.

His body had relaxed in the chains, tears dripping down his cheeks as the pain subsides with every stride she took to be with him. She must have been feeling similar symptoms in their time apart, if not worse, her protector not being there to surround her in his scent.

When she climbed into the van, he woke back up from his haze, her omega scent soothing his rage temporarily. He had to touch her. Make sure that fucktard didn’t leave one bit of his scent on her.

She was crying too, as he could see, as she fumbled with the locks that kept him away from her. She yanked the head gear off his face, her voice coming out in a breathy whimper of relief.

“Katsuki-” She couldn’t even finish her sentence before he almost tackled her, face deep into her neck, scenting her as she purred at the sensation, scenting him back. Sobs wracked through his body as he pressed himself against her, taking her all in. She was okay. She was here. Here with her Alpha.

"Did he touch you? What did he do? (Y/N), did he fucking touch you?“ He mumbled into her hair, grip tight enough to cause bruises, but she didn’t care. Her fingers thread through his hair, his body relaxing with a low growl, taking this moment to be with her.

 "No, no he didn’t.“

“Good, because I might have had to break his fucking-“

 "Katsuki."

”..You’re glad I love you, shitty girl.“

 "I love you too, Bakugo.”

“Sometimes I look at Kelli O’Hara and I think all the girls in the fairy tales were based on her. She’s beautiful. She’s funny. She’s smart. She sings like nobody on the planet. She dances like Ginger Rogers— I don’t even think she knew that, but she does. She’s been in nine Broadway shows. She’s been nominated for five Tony Awards. She has an amazing husband, two wonderful children, and makes a mean grits casserole. She’s performed in everything from South Pacific to King Lear to our own The Bridges of Madison County, this season. She’s appeared with the New York Philharmonic, been on Sex and the City, performed at Carnegie Hall, and three times at the Kennedy Center Honors, But here’s the deal, folks: Kelli O’Hara is no princess. Bart Sher says that what makes Kelli so spectacular is that she is a woman on stage. She brings a woman’s understanding and emotion to every part she plays. She will not let a word or a lyric get by her that isn’t right. And when everything is right, she falls into your arms and you cannot imagine ever being loved by anybody else.”

Happy 41st Birthday to the best there is, Kelli O’Hara!

i know its nice being ship friendly and stuff but SOMEONE'S POINTING A GUN AT YOU, THEY HATE LEVIHAN AND THEY'RE GONNA KILL YOU IF YOU DON'T CONVINCE THEM OTHERWISE, YOU GOTTA DEFEND LEVIHAN WITH YOUR LIFE, WHAT'D YOU SAY? GO!

You know, that’s a really weird murderer. Anyway, THIS IS FUN! Honestly, i’d be dead already, because i don’t really care about convincing anyone when it comes to shipping. Before i start, i’m gonna state that ANYTHING I’LL SAY HERE IS BECAUSE I’M FIGHTING FOR MY LIFE, DON’T TAKE ANYTHING PERSONAL, GUYS. These will be pretty much the reasons why i ship them. The first part is a bunch of “objective” reasons (well as objective as it can get, because shipping can’t be a totally objective thing) and the other one is personal, so is up to you when to stop reading this. I apologize in advance for my English.

1)      Levi and Hanji are both really interesting and complex characters. He isn’t just a typical shonen badass guy and she’s not a typical crazy scientist. Levi is actually , from my pov, the most caring and selfless character of all SnK, he literally sacrifices himself over and over for the sake of others. Hanji isn’t just this sweet cheerful character, she has a mesmerizing willpower, nothing can stop her.

2)      They complement each other amazingly. They are both strong and smart, but in different ways. Any virtue that Levi doesn’t have, Hanji has it. Every flaw that Hanji has, Levi doesn’t. And they share two really important virtues, which are the foundation of any healthy relationship: they are both so loyal and passionate. They are literally willing to give up their lives for the people they love.

3)      THEIR INTERACTIONS ARE SO FUN TO READ/WATCH. You just know that, whenever they are together, something great is going to happen. There’s something refreshing about them, about their bickering, about the way they work together, about the way they care about each other so deeply.

4)      I think nobody can understand them more than each other. They have experienced similar things as soldiers, they have lost people they love countless times. I bet they could be sharing each other stories all night long, reminiscing all of those good times with Moblit, Erwin and their old squads.

5)      Okay, i won’t force my ship to anyone, but since i’m fighting for my life here, i’ll say i think there are actual canon hints for Levihan. Like the “Levi bathes Hanji” thing, the “we tell each other everything” thing (don’t u dare telling me Hanji clearly said they’re just friends, cuz isn’t that what every Levihan shipper has as a headcanon? The idea of them not admitting their true feelings and say “we’re just friends” ‘cause they’re both awkward dorks), their interaction in ACWNR, their interaction in Shingeki! Chuugakkou, and the “Levihan is similar to Eremika” thing. It’s up to you, random killer, to decide if that means romance or not.

6)      I hate to fangirl here, but HAVE U SEEN THEM? They are both beautiful and would have babies as beautiful and brilliant as them. What a blessing. I love drawing them so much because their character design is gorgeous. Levi with his cold colors and Hanji with the warm colors, they even complement each other in that aspect.

7)      The Levihan fandom is amazing. Besides the fact that there’s no drama and everyone is so kind, I’m pretty sure this is the ship with the funniest fan art. Even the most serious person would smirk even a little bit while scrolling through the Levihan tag. I mean, we’re all about the laughs. All of the other ships usually focus on the classic romantic stuff (i say “classic” , because from my pov there’s nothing more romantic than the OTP having fun ❤). With Levihan, you’ll get from the most intense fan art to the most ridiculous headcanon, it’s so much fun. Some Levihan artists are pretty well known among non Levihan shippers because of that same reason, like @alemanriq, @trash-god or @drinkyourfuckingmilk . I mean, really, if you’re feeling down and need to cheer up a bit, they’re the way to go.

One of the main arguments people have against Levihan is that they’re too different, so it wouldn’t work. They even go as far as saying that Levi doesn’t really care that much about Hanji. My first response is that both Hanji and Levi are highly misunderstood characters. We don’t have to let our personal experience makes us decide what is love and what isn’t. We all show our love in very different ways.

Now heres my second argument to that idea and this is gonna get personal. If you don’t wanna read about my life, skip this.

Thoughts on fahc sleeping patterns? Go ot6 if you feeling it! 💙

well, I’ll give it a go blue, though I can’t guarantee it’ll be good haha

We’ll start with the obvious: Ryan. Their lovely resident insomniac. He catches sleep as he can, usually going to sleep late into the night and waking up relatively early in the morning. He’s learned to function on little sleep, and even if he didn’t he would insist he’s fine anyway. He’s also an incredibly light sleeper, which also doesn’t help his sleeping, also picked up from when he used to work alone. Deep sleep meant people could sneak up on you and kill you, so Ryan’s learned to sleep light.

That being said, he sleeps the best, the deepest and the longest, curled with all of his lovers and their huge bed. And the others have been known to drag him to bed to get him to sleep or at least lay with them whenever he gets stuck up in his insomnia and can’t sleep.

The other with a god awful sleeping habits is Gavin. (especially hacker! Gav which im still rather fond of and usually have him be both the Golden Boy and the hacker, really only making it worse for the poor boy). Gav has been known to stay awake several days in a row when working on something, letting work and worry consume him and him drinking so many energy drinks it practically all his blood is anymore. These binges usually result in one or all of the crew members literally dragging his ass out of his office and away from his computer to their bed. He’ll fight of course, always insist that he needs to be working. But after having him pass out once from lack of sleep is enough for them to know not to listen to him.

Michael and Jeremy are pretty similar in sleeping habits. They’ll stay up somewhat late, playing videos games or on a job or getting bevs. And usually will sleep in later because of it. They might not get the most hours of sleep but they’ll at least be reliable to get some sleep unlike Gavin or Ryan. They’ll usually curl close to any of the others, usually depending on who they’re sleeping next to.

Jeremy sleeps in like the tightest little ball. It’s somewhat cute once you look past the obvious self defensive nature of it. Jeremy is also a light sleeper, picked up from his time on the streets. Jeremy also has a second sense for when anyone’s missing from the bed, which makes it somewhat difficult to sleep when they’re not all there.

Michael on the other hand is a deep sleeper. When he’s out, he’s out. Though not impossible to wake him up, it’ll require noise and possibly shaking. Though you’ll have to be careful when shaking him awake because even when he’s sleepy he can still throw a mean left hook.

Jack and Geoff are the more practical sleepers, actually getting a good amount of sleep whenever they can. Jack tends to be one of the first to bed and then usually takes Geoff with her because she can’t fall asleep without cuddling at least one of her lovers. Geoff or Jack will usually be one of the first one’s up as well, making breakfast or getting plans ready for the day. They definitely live up to their reputations as the crew parents by being the most responsible of them all in actually getting sleep.

Again, personality play a big roles on how yau handle hurts, disappointment and anger. So while all of the boys experience the exact same situation, it won’t affect them similarly. I feel like louis’s frustration translate into being ‘loud’ or probably argumentative. Savan’s fond memory of working with harry could also

Dear anon,

I might not have gotten last parts of this ask? If you have them, please send them.

First, thank you for understanding the complexity of the Golan/ Kotecha interview, for reading between the lines, and for articulating that in an empathetic way.

Now that we have all had time to digest it, I think it gives a lot of insight into the group dynamic.

Undoubtedly the powers-that-be have always seen One Direction as a manufactured product. Industry has never respected the band because of this background, despite the fact– the FACT not only voiced by fans but now, explicitly, by these two songwriters– that One Direction is not a typical boyband, that the talent is extraordinary, that their ambitions and their ability to learn the music business (from the creative to the business) was outsized.

And if Industry bothered to listen to pop podcasts, it would know that One Direction songs are actually, within the frame of their pop genre, quite good, considered by critics to be surprisingly good for a “manufactured product.”

I think Kotecha expressed his regret that 1. he underestimated them, 2. he let the psychological “mind fuck” –the antagonism he had with Louis– get in the way of helping them develop as artists, 3. he missed out on the biggest portion of their success, 4. he burned some bridges with them.

Kotecha is an incredible songwriter. I’m really glad he found his success with other big-name artists. He wrote my favorite AG song on Dangerous Woman, “Into You.”

The interview also revealed a lot about the band members’ state of mind through the first three albums. Kotecha states that none of the boys liked the music on Up All Night : it’s not music they are proud of, he says. If they disliked UAN, they would have recognized in the making of Take Me Home that Syco expected them to stay in this traditional boyband mode for all five albums– and perhaps they were already sensing the impetus to find a breakout solo act (Harry) so that the band wouldn’t finish their contract. They sensed it because that was the natural boyband trajectory, and had been for the last 30 years.

We talk about The Beatles being the first boyband, but of course, The Beatles were not put together on a reality talent show. No one expected the talent show band to last. No one expected them to have any creative or business talents. No one expected them to form any deep bonds with each other. No one expected them to do anything except bleat out tunes, look pretty, sell merch. No one expected these things because there was just no precedent. And now Kotecha’s interview basically confirmed all of this.

And imagine being in the boys’ shoes. Obviously they were going to sing whatever they were given in UAN: they were unknowns. They relied on industry experience to get to world-wide success. They would do whatever they were asked to do.

It was only after TMH, when their success became ever more apparent, that they had the courage to demand more. Even then, they were risking a lot to raise their voices. They could easily have been shouted down. And you’re right, anon, I think at some point, Kotecha felt like he was being attacked for doing exactly what he was hired to do. He felt an ownership for the creation of the 1D sound, and there was bloody mutiny from the bleating pretty faces– and not even from the talented one, or the singer.

And if Louis hadn’t been in the band, who knows who would have stepped into his place? Louis took a big risk (never play poker with him– his bluffs are deadly)– he could have been the one asked to leave. He was the loudest voice, but Kotecha sort of made it clear that it wasn’t only Louis who felt this way. Louis was simply the one willing to stick his neck out, to take the brunt of bad feelings. He risked his own career to make sure One Direction was in it for the long haul.

I wrote about “Strong” as a romantic song, but it could also be a song about camaraderie. “Waves try to break it”: it’s as poignant as any other reading.

Not only that, but Harry’s refusing to leave the band to be The Breakout Star also strengthened the band’s argument against management. They needed to be a united front, to argue for their creative independence. Perhaps Zayn’s willingness to give up on this united front is why bitter feelings ran so deeply during OTRA promo.

To Kotecha’s point about Harry’s songwriting chops, I think he is sincere. I think the songwriting community in pop music is a small one, and they don’t blow hot air around just for promo– the public doesn’t care if pop stars write their own songs, tbh. Indeed, it’s not the first time, second time, or even the tenth time we’ve heard from other songwriters that Harry is a pretty fucking good songwriter. I also think he and Harry are no longer in contact, at least not in any meaningful way, by the way Kotecha says “Harry probably would” [contact him]– at least, as of February 2016.

It’s weird, for me, to have this detailed, intimate snapshot of the band members circa 2011-2012. It adds to the complexity of the 1D boys as human beings, and I must say I love them more for this, for recognizing their mutual talents, for refusing to be ground down by the inevitable boyband gristmill, for having the vision to see their unknown futures and for wanting to be taken seriously as artists– risking their fame and celebrity in the process. They are a very special band.
