7 Thoughts about Power Rangers

On August 28, 1993, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers premiered on Fox Kids. I was eight years old and whether or not I was the intended demographic for the show, I was instantly hooked. It all started with five teenagers with attitudes summoned by Zordon to defend the world against evil forces led by intergalactic baddie Rita Repulsa. Jason Lee Scott (Austin St. John), Kimberly Ann Hart (Amy Jo Johnson), William “Billy” Cranston (David Yost), Trini Kwan (Thuy Trang) and Zack Taylor (Walter Jones) called on the power of the ancient dinosaurs and became a team of superheroes called the Power Rangers and the world was never the same.

Nearly twenty-five years later, those of us who became acquainted with the Power Rangers discovered there would be a reboot of the franchise in the form of a gritty re-imagining of the original team. While initially thrilled about the idea of seeing my childhood superheroes on the big screen, a part of me wondered just how loyal this new film would be to the original source material. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was a totally kick-ass TV show but even the most die-hard fan has to admit there were some problematic elements in regards to the original series, many I will address later on in this recap.

On March 31, 2017 a couple of friends and I went to our local theater and saw the new film, Power Rangers. One of my friends admitted he was not even born when the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers first debuted and my other friend announced he would have been too old to watch such a show despite only being four/five older years than me. I expected them both to hate it and even braced myself for disappointment of epic proportions. The three of us exited the theater two and a half hours later each raving about how amazing the film was. Below, I will list seven thoughts I have in regards to the film. For those who have not seen the Power Rangers, there will be spoilers in this post. You have been warned…

  1. In the original series, Zack, Trini, Billy, Kimberly and Jason all knew each other and were the best of friends before becoming the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. In the latest film, our heroes know of each other before discovering Zordon (voiced by Bryan Cranston) but they are certainly not friends. Jason (Dacre Montgomery) is a football star before he winds up in detention (and with an ankle bracelet) after a brush with the law. It is in detention where he meets Billy (RJ Cyler) and Kimberly (Naomi Scott). Trini (Becky G) is a recent transplant in Angel Grove and Zack (Ludi Lin) is a loner who rarely attends class. Instead of Jason being the rallying force behind the five teens coming together, it’s actually Billy who is responsible for the event that eventually leads them to each other…and the power coins.
  2. These ain’t your older brother and sister’s Power Rangers. Our heroes have been re-imagined as more of a modern day Breakfast Club. Jason is a star athlete who loses everything after a prank gone awry. Jason is prone to fits of anger which often-times leaves him incapable of leading the team. However, underneath all of the muscle and bravado there’s a good guy there will a strong moral core who feels the weight of fear, a fear of disappointing those he cares about, most importantly his father (David Denman). Our dear Kimberly, like Jason, used to be one of the popular kids until a sexting scandal rendered her an outcast at Angel Grove High. Billy is a bullied autistic teen who spends a lot of time at the rock quarry because it reminds him of his dad. Trini, the new girl, wrestles with the fact she is not normal like her parents and her two brothers. Zack is trying to deal with the fact that his mother is sick and could possibly die. Instead of our rangers having that established relationship with each other, we get to see them get to know one another before tapping into the power that will ultimately transform them into the Power Rangers.
  3. One of the things my friends and I would joke about in regards to the TV show was how Jason, Trini, Billy, Zack and Kimberly always were together wearing clothing the same color as their respective ranger identities. Anyone with eyes and a shred of common sense in Angel Grove could have put two and two together and figured out these five were the Power Rangers. The movies pays homage to this concept by having each of the rangers wear a pop of color corresponding to their ranger’s color. It’s both effective and subtle.
  4. Morphing is like totally hard, you know? The five of them discover the hidden power coins in the rock quarry and develop superhuman abilities almost immediately. Summoning the armor they will ultimately don in their battle against Rita Repulsa and Goldar takes a lot of time and even after a lengthy training montage (WE NEED A MONTAGE!!!!) our teenagers with attitudes are still not successful in becoming the rangers. I actually like this idea of them not being able to become rangers right away because it forces our characters to learn one another. A team is only effective when it accesses the strengths and weaknesses of it’s individual members. It is only after they are able to truly bond with each other they are able to tap into the power that morphs them into Power Rangers.
  5. Rita Repulsa is freaking terrifying. So yeah, the original Rita Repulsa was a total bad-ass but I never really found her particularly scary. The film’s version of Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks) is wicked and not above murdering any and everyone who gets in her way. Rita even goes as far as to kill one of the rangers. No joke. Another added detail I quite enjoyed about the character was how she was the original Green Ranger who served alongside Zordon, the original Red Ranger. This also makes me wonder, when they debut the Green Ranger in the sequel (of course there will be a sequel) will it be Tommy Oliver…or Tommie Oliver?
  6. The Zords were awesome. I enjoyed the sleek look of the design and their free range of movements. In the TV show, most of the Zords were reminiscent of actual tanks and were big and blocky and a bit cumbersome. One of my favorite moments in the film was the creation of the Megazord and how each Power Ranger controlled a particular part of the machine, i.e. the legs, arms, etc. It really took some coordination between all five rangers in order for them to control Megazord.
  7. The last thing I want to address in regard to the Power Rangers film is how cool it was to see a black nerd character on the big screen. Growing up, I always resonated with the character of Billy because my favorite color was blue and Billy was very intelligent and he wore glasses. Billy was this nerd character who was accepted by those we would call popular. As the resident science geek, Billy also plays a vital role to the team. Another thing I thought was pretty cool was Billy being autistic in the film. I was talking to a coworker of mine yesterday and we were talking about the importance of having visibility in regards to autism in TV and film. Her son is autistic and how coll is it he has someone like him on the big screen as a superhero. Another thing I would also like to point out is the importance of having a LGBT character in the film. Trini is not only the new girl but she also likes girls and because of her sexuality she feels somewhat detached from her family. I also detected a bit of something brewing between Trini and Kimberly. Then again maybe it was all in my head. However, I was so glad they did not play out any kind of romance between any of the rangers in this film. I know there were talks about Kimberly and Jason possibly being romantically-involved in the film which would be a great departure from canon but first and foremost Power Rangers has always been the story of a group of friends coming together to save the world. I would be interested to see if future films do further address Trini’s sexuality because how great would it be to see a young woman fully embracing her sexuality and being a total bad-ass in the process. I know there will be a part of the fandom who will wonder why there needed to be an autistic ranger or a lesbian ranger. Some will even ask, why did they have to make Billy black? These are the same people who flip out whenever there is a character introduced on Sesame Street who has two dads or two moms or a parent that’s incarcerated. Representation is so important because in order to eradicate homophobia and racism and bigotry in our society, we have to acknowledge these people exist! So thank you Power Rangers for going there.

I am thirty-two years old and I have never felt more like that eight year old sitting on the floor of my living room watching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers than I did last night sitting in that movie theater. I recommend Power Rangers to all of you who share the same memories as I do in regards to the TV show. Even if you were never a fan of the show, the story is amazing, the acting was great and it was packed with action. My friends and I definitely had a great time and this is a film I would definitely consider seeing again in theaters and also purchasing once it comes out on DVD. If you have any thoughts or comments in regards to my thoughts, fill free to comment. GO-GO-POWER RANGERS!

Hello! Can you tell me anything about the wage gap? I've never heard anything consistent, but I was pretty sure it exists, pretty obviously in some fields. Am I wrong, though? You said it's been distorted, or something like that, and that women did something wrong? Sorry. I'm still trying to learn about this type of stuff. Thank you for your time. 😊

There’s two different ways to look at the wage gap. One, comparing all women’s wages to all men’s wages, ignoring what field they’re in. Two, comparing women’s wages to men’s wages within the same field or even the same position at the same company.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that, under the first method, women make $0.79 to a man’s $1, and this value has hovered around $0.78 since 2007. It’s really hard to argue with math.

The argument comes into play when we ask if this pay discrepancy alone is enough to conclude that women are being discriminated against. Some will argue that the reason women make $0.79 to a man’s $1 is because women enter into lower-paying fields, value their families more than their job (and take time off to care for family members), and men are more tolerant of dangerous and/or undesirable working conditions and longer hours.

While that may have some truth to it, the reality is more complex than “men go to school for higher-paying jobs.” From Huffington Post

Another beloved means of dismissing the gender pay gap is to point out that women tend to work in lower-paying (i.e., traditionally “female”) fields, like teaching, nursing and social work. And yes, that’s true. “Women, as a whole, continue to work in lower-paying occupations than men do,” Pew says.

But research has shown that even when women enter traditionally “male” fields, they make less. In fact, research looking at pay changes over decades has shown that when more women enter a traditionally male field, pay within that field begins to decline. As The New York Times reported, when more women began working in parks or running camps, for example, median hourly wages declined by 57 percentage points. Same goes for fields like design, housekeeping and biology. Conversely, when more men enter a traditionally female field, wages go up.

I wish they had cited “But research has shown that even when women enter traditionally “male” fields, they make less,” because that is the other way to look at the wage gap: comparing women vs men in the same field. Here is an article about the pay gap experienced by Ivy League graduates, which looks at finance and management consulting specifically, and why women earn less than men in those fields.

It comes down to the inherent sexism in society. Women are expected to take traditionally “feminine,” lower-paying jobs. The women who go into STEM fields or other high-paying careers (having been bombarded with “but girls aren’t good at math/science/engineering” and endured male-majority classrooms and just generally putting up with academic “women aren’t good enough to be here” sexism) STILL make less than men, because when they get married and/or have children, the woman is the one expected to take care of the kids. And when you’re a doctor working or on call at all hours, you can’t be there for your kid throwing up at 3am. So women switch to jobs with more flexible hours, taking a pay cut in the process.

Additionally, women aren’t allowed to be aggressive in the workplace. A man will be praised for being assertive, but a woman acting exactly the same way is “emotional,” “bitchy,” and “it must be that time of the month.” This can impact how much the company values women (”she never contributes anything in meetings” yeah because she’s not allowed to be assertive) and when negotiating wages (”I can’t ask for the raise I’m owed because my boss will think I’m too pushy”).

NOTE: all of this is even worse for WOC, because of the intersectionality of sexism and racism. The Huffington Post article (also linked above) gets into that discussion. This article has a nifty bar graph comparing wage gaps by race. Lack of access to education can explain some of this gap, but since black women are one of the most educated groups in the US, there’s definitely racism at play.

hi! i saw your post about filipinx and just my opinion i think that the discussion on it should include filipino-americans or western filipinos since it's that community that seemed to use the term a lot i'm not one of them but ive been discussing it somewhat with a friend of mine and we both think that it's not as simple as "let's use/not use this term" especially when you take into consideration how they're trying to adapt to western contexts because of their migrant situation

hello! thanks for your question! it’s refreshing to see someone actually want to discuss the issue instead of just reblogging it and going “ay” “this” “oh”. anyway, let’s get to it

we (filipinos in the philippines) are not discounting the struggles in diaspora—and we can never identify with these experiences until we, too, are displaced—but the way filipinx/pilipinx identity is mobilized needs to be interrogated. the term is problematic at its mildest, and actively harmful at its worst.

Roman Reigns Blurb request - The Introduction

Seth and I had been friends for years. He had always talked about Roman but somehow, for as much as we both hung out with our mutual friend, we always seemed to miss each other when we were in the same town or city. So, I was nothing short of shocked when I stepped through the doorway of Seth’s Tampa home and found the man himself sprawled out on the sectional. I swear he took up half of it.

“Is this the infamous Cassie I hear so much about but never see?” His deep voice matched his size and boomed across the room as he stood up with a huge grin on his face.

“One and the same,” Seth grinned back at him.

He strode over to where I was standing in a few short steps and put his hand out, “Hey, I’m Roman, pleasure to finally meet ya.”

I took his hand in mine and looked up at the man towering over me. “Cassandra but everyone calls me Cassie.” I couldn’t take my eyes off of him, “Jesus, how fucking tall are you?”

“Around 6’3”,” he laughed.

His voice was mesmerizing. “I have no idea why I just said that,” my face flushed as I spoke, “clearly you’re aware of your height.”

“When your 6’3” everyone is aware of your height,” his grey eyes held mine.

Bad Ideas (Chapter 4)

Hey Everyone! I hope you are all loving this fic because I honestly am LOVING IT!! If you are new to the story, catch up HERE!
This is a loooong chapter, guys, pushing 4000 words, and I didn’t want to cut it up because it’s important to the story!! Peter goes into heat, and Wade says A LOT of things. Language warning because its Wade, but be aware I sprinkled the F-bomb through this chapter like I was decorating a cake with it so… sorry in advance.
I hope you like this chapter anyway, it was lovely to write.

“Wade. Wade, out from the truck. Come on.” Peter kicked at Wades shoes. “Come on Wade, I need you. Need you, come on.”

Wade slid out from under the truck and popped up off the floor. “Hey baby boy, oh my god I have been waiting for you to say that for weeks. You wanna do it up against the truck? Or should I get back down on the floor…or?” he cocked his head, taking a deep breath of that sweet scent that was perfectly Peter. It seemed stronger today, and Wade idly wondered if he was just getting more sensitive to the omega after they had spent that night together last week.

“Speak up, baby love.” He said when Peter didn’t say anything. “Floor? Truck? Office? Or do you need me somewhere comfortable? Keep saying my name like that though, I like it.” he was trying to make the kid smile, but Peter didn’t even acknowledge the raunchy conversation.

“Sign here.” he handed Wade a clipboard and pen. “Okay, and then over here. Turn the page and right here. Initial there and there. Thank you.” He was used to Wade by now, used to the comments, the mostly one track mind, and even though usually he just laughed it off, he was feeling a little weird today, so he just ignored it all.

“So what do I get in exchange for signing over my soul?” Wade waggled his non existent eyebrows trying to get a reaction but Peter didn’t even blink.

“That wasn’t for your soul.” Peter said, while flipping through another stack of papers. “But this one might be, sign right here please.”

Taking a necessary breather, you walk over to the handsome professor in the white long-sleeved buttoned down dress shirt, dark brown vest and black pants. The fact that people in this fandom don’t even seem to know what it ought to look like if they don’t hate and erase the significant others and children of their idols - the fact that they can’t imagine what a neutral position of acknowledging someone exists in the role they’ve been stated to exist in even LOOKS LIKE - they can’t even APPROXIMATE it - is very upsetting.

Imagine throwing a huge party for friends and acquaintances, and whenever an acquaintance comes to you and says, “hey, my sister is in town for the weekend, can she come along,” you say “SURE! the more the merrier! We’re all friends here!”

And you have an acquaintance come to you and say, “I’m bringing my wife and son, thanks for the invite,” and you say, “ooh, ouch, reign it in there, buddy, I’m friends with YOU. This is really just a friends gathering.”

The fact is that these people know it’s shitty to erase the women and children in these men’s lives. They know these are wildly unpopular opinions amongst those of us who have a concept of humanity. That’s why they LIE about their reasoning. That’s why they hide their motivations and choose neutral handles, and mince about whether or not they are conspiracy theorists. (they are)

They don’t understand WHY, though. They don’t understand what fundamental wrong there is in denying that these men have described the roles these people have in their lives, to the point that they’re cropped out of photographs THEY THEMSELVES have shared, and mocking nicknames and epithets are made up for them.

That should worry people, that so much of fandom doesn’t know how to communicate about women and the relationships of their idols in any way other than idolizing them or demonizing and dehumanizing them.

Friends since we were 5, but we always were more like siblings. You were like a protect older brother to me, always looking at me as your younger sister. But of course a part of me had feelings for you, even though I knew you would never see me like that. You were always infatuated with my best friend. I used to hate seeing you wanting her, hearing you talk about her. Thank god she never felt the same way about you though. We were just children though and I eventually grew out of my childhood crush. You, me and my best friend stayed close over the years as we grew up. Then we hit high school. You were quickly to abandon me, not caring for my existence or even acknowledging it at all. Of course you never let go of my best friend. Even years later you two still talk sometimes where as I haven’t heard from you in years. I still see you sometimes, but I don’t even get a smile as we pass each other by. I don’t even really think of you anymore, do you think of me?

The "Bi overhaul" mod is amazing for some Alistair action! I just finished a playthrough with it, and my Cousland became a prince-consort of Ferelden, and even Awakening acknowledges that in one absolutely adorable conversation (the mod doesn't really affect Awakening, so there's a bit misgendering on Alistair's part, but it's noting crucial, and Origins has no misgendering at all). Also, I absolutely adore your Alistair/Warden couple! And I wonder... how did the "lamppost" talk go for them?

I still haven’t tried this mod (only because I’ve not been playing dao), but just hearing about this makes me so happy it exists. 8D

And thanks. I actually have thought out a comic about the lamppost-conversation. Been in my head for a ages so it’ll probably be the next one I draw. And since I have now declared this here I guess it’ll have to be relatively soon …

I just wanted to take a minute and say thank-you.

To all of the people who like my works, reblog, leave comments, or even acknowledge their existence, thank-you.
Thanks for following me. Thanks for letting me know that my writing isn’t just floating around in the ether, lost and alone. Thank-you for those who re-read my stories, who support my crazy style and even ask for more. I appreciate every drop.
Thank-you to those who share my similar interests, who have pulled me into the center of their little families and made me feel welcome. Your love and support means more to me than you will ever know.
To those who have ever created artwork for one of my stories, you will always hold a special place in my heart, and there are no words that could ever begin to describe how elated I feel every time I see them. The fact that you took time out of your busy schedules and carved a piece of me into your life with your talent humbles me to no end. Thank you.

Thank-you so much, everyone- for without you, I would be nothing.

Akashi had been raised on the core belief that strength above all is what made a successful pack, and it was a belief that was only ever reaffirmed by the temporary pack he had built in Teiko.

Of course, he completely understood even then that a pack could not thrive if it consisted of too many alphas. He knew that too many alphas meant there would always be tension and battles for power. Betas were a necessary component in a pack because they kept things peaceful, and also looked after children. (Kuroko, in Akashi’s mind, was the perfect example of how a beta wolf could assist a pack without having any real strength or power).

The fact that they would never make it as a real pack when all of them were alphas was just one of the reasons Akashi made sure they all went to different high schools. All of them were too headstrong, meant to lead packs of their own, not work together with one another.

When it’s time for Akashi to create his own pack, he wants it to be as strong and cohesive as possible, which means the only other alpha who will be in his pack will be his mate.

The alpha pair is an important part to any pack, and it’s something Akashi has put a lot of though into. Whoever his mate will be it must be an alpha wolf of incredible strength. Someone who can match him, someone who holds his ideals and is one mind on him with everything. A partner whose strength will support him, and who will always ensure victory in all things.

Akashi has met a lot of alphas—some of the strongest alphas in Japan were with him in Teiko—but no one had quite matched his perfect ideal for his alpha mate.

It is, all around, very alarming when he meets Furihata Kouki.

He had, of course, heard the stories about how you could find your mate solely off of how appealing their scent was, but he had never put any kind of consideration into that idea. He has very exacting qualifications for his mate, and scent is not one of them.

It was not a conscious decision, but he had somewhat come to the conclusion that even if he found that “appealing scent” he would ignore it, unless that wolf met his other demanding criteria.

So when a beta wolf, not even a particularly strong beta wolf—but an incredibly ordinary, clearly submissive, easily frightened beta wolf—appears before him as the most amazing thing he has ever smelled, he is privately very alarmed, disappointed, and determined that this changes absolutely nothing. There is no reason at all why he should even acknowledge the other wolf’s existence. He will just carry on as if there was nothing unusual about him. This is, he is sure, the best solution.

He is not quite prepared for how difficult it is to ignore the scent, or his own response (and unexpectedly intense longing) to make that scent his.

A/N: Since this was such a popular request, I have continued the AkaFuri Company of Wolves with Akashi’s point of view.  =D thanks anon-friends, @cerberosthehellguard and @theotpauthor!!

Do not bow your head. Do not close your eyes.

Let us look deeply within one another.

TODAY, I give thanks for the light that exists within each one of you.

TODAY, I acknowledge that your quest for light beyond shadow, your desire to defeat your own cynicism, your work at believing the impossible possible, your faith in change and the ability of humankind to transcend past transgressions and overcome the shortsightedness of ignorance and fear, and our collective effort at stretching the boundaries of reality, has enabled us to achieve the dream that is TODAY.

TODAY, I acknowledge that even my own success is a simple spoke in the wheel of our collective success, and that our collective success is in response to all of the individual effort that we have put forward in our individual lives, in private moments, in private struggles against our lesser selves.

Some of us worked on being more honest.
Some of us worked on being more kind.
Some of us worked on not hiding our emotions.
Some of us worked on becoming less angry.
Some of us worked on becoming better listeners.
Some of us worked on facing our fears.
Some of us worked on remembering to say thank you.
Some of us worked on trusting our loved ones.
Some of us worked on having more faith.
Some of us worked on detoxifying our environment.
Some of us worked on detoxifying our minds.
Some of us worked on monitoring our diets.
Some of us worked on strengthening our discipline.
Some of us worked on broadening our skills.
Some of us worked on learning new languages.
Some of us worked on becoming better parents.
Some of us worked on becoming better friends.
Some of us worked on remembering our dreams.
Some of us worked on forgiving the past.
Some of us worked on strengthening our bodies.
Some of us worked on sharing and giving back.
Some of us worked on taking on greater responsibility.
Some of us worked on our art.

As a result of all of the work that has been done quietly in our individual lives, we have collectively contributed to the blossoming understanding and simplest expression of what God is. God is our good, and even the good we do for our self counts. Each fully blossomed flower on the hillside of our destiny adds to the broadened spectrum of our being. And together, we create more than beauty, more than fate; we evolve the depth and scope of the All-Seeing.

We may never see it reported through the media, but there is more good happening in this world than evil. There are more children smiling in this moment than any single one of us could fathom… and someone just fell in love, and someone just helped a stranger, and someone just scored a goal, and someone got their hearing back, and someone’s joking with their co-worker, and someone’s sitting in the kitchen, while the rest of the household sleeps, writing a poem.

Today, I give thanks for all of the good that has gone unrewarded, for every kind word, action, or deed. Today, I gave thanks for the God that is within each and every one of you, that is us, when we claim who we are.

It took every single ounce of self-control not to drool at the sight you were met with when you exited the bathroom.

The sweats hung low on Castiel’s hips, the t-shirt a bit tight on him outlining all his muscles. He looked completely irresistible and you were sure that you were staring for a bit too long.

“Okay, I’m done now,” you said taking the clothes he left on the bed and turning around. “I’ll get them to the dryer,”

“I could go with you,” Cas responded, making you stop in your tracks. You smiled softly at him, nodding.

anonymous asked:

markiplier is problematic regardless if he apologised tbh he shouldnt have made that remark in the first place. there's literally no justification for what he said...

Well well anon, tis going to be unfortunate for you here because the justification is almost overwhelming.

For starters, maybe you should go back and rewatch his video and listen closely to what he has to say. In fact, I’ll link it for ya. Now, he doesn’t say hitting someone is in anyway good nor does he say men should hit women all the time, he literally just says that hitting is bad and no one should do it. But, if in a said situation where you are in danger, either gender has the right to hit the opposing gender back. And he’s is so very right. If someone is in an abusive relationship, they have every right to fight back if it means their safety is in tact. Yet, that’s up to the person in danger. It doesn’t mean they have to hit back, but they have every right to. That’s really what one of his points was, he was not trying to anger anyone. But his actual main thing he stated was don’t hit anyone ever. It’s not right unless its for self defense.

Now, if you read his post about equality, which I’ll also link for ya, you’ll see that he’s been through a lot of crap. If you don’t want to read the whole thing, I will be using his words to well…defend him.

Let’s start with what he first said:

“I was in an abusive relationship. Whenever my ex-girlfriend and I got into an argument, which was often, it eventually led to me being slapped or punched. The physical damage was nothing compared to the emotional toll, but not one time did I ever strike back because that’s not the kind of person I wanted to be. I don’t want anyone, regardless of gender, to have to go through that.”

There’s actual justification for what he was trying to say. And I, for one, agree with him. I was abused by my mother for four years and I was way too young to even try to defend myself, but I sure endured a lot. I instead used my words which often resulted in some physical harm. I’m not going to focus on me though, because this isn’t about me. But I can relate to what he is saying. No one, no matter what gender, should ever suffer through the pain of any sort of physical relationship. Whether it be a romantic relationship, a family relationship, sexual, etc. and etc. Just not one person should ever suffer like that.

Onwards to the next point, his actual main point:

“ Jack and I were not making some grand sweeping statement about feminism or trying to say that it’s okay to hit women. We were shooting the breeze talking about some crazy videos we saw on YouTube. The main point that some people missed out on is that it’s not okay to hit ANYONE. ”

Whether you missed this or not while watching the video, here it is. His main point. It is not okay to hit anyone. What is it not okay to do? Hit anyone. What should no one do? Hit anyone. You get the point? He literally just wants no one to hit anyone because it is not right unless there is some sort of justification.

“Equality is an ideal. But ideals taken in the literal sense don’t fit the world as it exists today. An eye-for-an-eye is literal equality. Men and women being able to hit one-another is literal equality. There is a SERIOUS imbalance to that particular equation that needs to be solved but as a whole it’s still not the kind of equality I fight for. I fight for a world that eventually forgets what violence is.”

I don’t think I need to explain anything here, but I will anyways, just in case. He knows there’s a problem with the world, he’s fighting for it. He wants equality just like everybody else who longs for a better world. That’s all he wants. He wasn’t approving of violence, he is in fact saying he wants a world without violence. Which is what a lot of people long for too.

Tl;dr:He doesn’t approve of violence and longs for a world in which nothing like that exists anymore. Yet, he acknowledges the fact that abuse in all forms exists and even shared his story with us. A man has every right to hit a woman back if the said man is in danger and vice versa. He had every right to say what he did and his justification was on par. So no, he’s not problematic and maybe next time you should get the whole story before you jump to conclusions.

Thanks for reading! Sorry if I was a bit rude!

Yuletide intuition day 22: Beginning

The Yuletide Intuition challenge has been amazing for me, I have learned a lot about myself and all the Tarot cards that chose me in all this 22 days. Thank you @tarot-dreams for this beautiful challenge. Hope you will do many more. Tomorrow I will go on holiday so I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a very beautiful 2017.

Queen of Pentacles: is an image of feminine strength and sensuality. Hers is not simply craving for physical satisfaction, but a primordial force which possesses both dignity and power. When we encounter The Queen of Pentacles within ourselves, we must bow to the power of the instincts and acknowledge that even the highest mind and most rarefied spirituality exist in a body that is made of earth. The Queen of Pentacles is not however, merely a sensualist. She is a ruler in her own right, prepared to be generous but always pragmatic and protective of her own wealth and territory. She may also be taken as an image of self-value, because this Queen treats herself and her body as well as her family and friends with care and lavish generosity. She possesses the endurance and stability of the earth itself, and although sensuality alone cannot fill a life, the Queen of Pentacles is an image of great importance and value.

This Queen is asking me to maintain a compassionate, nurturing, practical and down-to-earth attitude when it comes to dealing with others and my present circumstances. I need to focus on creating a calm and balanced life for myself. It is as well time for me to learn about the full expression of my sensuality, the value of my body and the importance fo those pleasures that preserve and enrich life. I need at this point of my life to be resourceful and practical and nourishing. This Queen is telling me to organise my life, to be patience but work every day on my project. Be serious about your dreams and don’t give up. I used to like a lot the Queen of Cups, but in this moment the Queen of Pentacles is what I need the most.

Earphone Girl [NCT Jaemin Oneshot]

REQUESTED by chitttapohn: Hey, i really loved your Jaemin scenario, i can barely find any on here (or any site smh). Could you write another? I don’t mind what scenario, you can let your creativity flow~ Your writing is amazing! Thank you!!

Jaemin’s P.O.V.

Since the beginning of the school year, almost all the girls in my school talk to me and want to ask me out - except for one. Y/F/N, she’s like the only one in this school that doesn’t seem to care about my existence. It’s not that I like her or anything, but, I wish she would at least acknowledge my existence in this school and talk to me; and the fact that we’re in the same class just bothers me even more.

She’s like one of the most kindest and smartest people in this school - and she has lots of friends. It’s just that I’m not one of those lots of friends. There’s just something about her that makes me feel so interested in her. Her laugh, her jokes, her teases, her smile, her kindness and especially her singing.

Her voice is like an angel and I really love her voice. She doesn’t sing in front of other people, she sings when there’s no one around. She’ll have her earphones on and just sing to the song that’s being played. She always has her earphones with her, I guess that’s why people call her the earphone girl.

“Hi Jaemin,” one of my female classmates greeted me.

“Hi,” I replied with a smile.

“Do you want to eat lunch with us today?”

“Who?” I asked not knowing the us.

“Me and the girls of course.”

“Umm, I wish I could, but I have something to do later,” I said trying to reject politely.

“Oh, I see. Maybe I can help you with that?”

“Oh, nope. It’s okay, Jeno and Donghyuck are going to accompany me later,” I said and he nods.

“Alright, see you!”

“Bye,” I replied and sigh when she left.

I looked at the other side of the room and saw Y/N with one of her best friends, Hina. I’m actually friends with Hina because she would be the one that would tell me about Y/N. She thinks that I like her, but, she’s crazy. I don’t like her, I just have some interest in her.

I saw Y/N looking at me and I immediately looked the other way, not wanting her to know that I was staring at her. I pretended to be writing down something, but I was writing Y/N’s names in the corner of my book…wait what. I immediately erased it so no one will see it if they passed by my table.

“Alright class, we’re going to be changing some seats,” my class teacher said as she sat on the table.

The class entire class - including me - whined in disappointment. I really like my seat because I sit at an angle where I can see Y/N perfectly…I don’t want to change seats!

What do you know, I’m sitting right beside Y/N, this is very nerve wrecking. I looked at Y/N to see her writing down some notes that the teacher has written and began to do the same as her. This is killing me, why isn’t she trying to talk to me? Maybe I’ll just talk to her first.

“You’re Y/N right?” I said softly to her and she stopped writing.

She looked at me and nod awkwardly. “And you’re Jaemin?”

I nod with a gentle smile. “We haven’t talked to each other before, so, we don’t really know each other. Let’s try to get to know each other and be friends,” I said to her and she nods in reply.

After that, she immediately looked down at her book. Did I say something wrong…?

Y/N’s P.O.V.

Oh, my god. Jaemin just talked to me. I hope he didn’t see me blush. This is so embarrassing, why did I have to sit beside him. I hope my heartbeat is beating too loud, that’ll make the whole situation worse if he hears it.

I’ll admit, I have some feelings for him, but, I doubt the feelings will be returned. Lots of girls talk to him and I’m the only one that doesn’t. So, I doubt that he’ll even have the slightest feeling for me.

“Do you want to have lunch together later?” Jaemin asked me and I swear my face turned red.

I replied with a nod and suddenly…

“Mr. Na Jaemin and Ms. Y/F/N,” my teacher called us out. “Would you like to tell us about your little conversation?”

I was immediately stunned and saw the whole class was staring at us in silence. I didn’t know what to say or what to do - but Jaemin…

“Mr. Park, it’s not Y/N’s fault - it was mine. I was the one that talked to her, she didn’t even say a single word,” Jaemin said as he stood up.

My teacher looked at Jaemin not feeling convinced and then looked at me.

“Well, I’m in a good mood today, so, I won’t be giving a heavy punishment. During lunch, go to the library and sort out the books,” my teacher said and we both nod.

Jaemin’s P.O.V.

The atmosphere in the library was very quiet, especially with Y/N wearing her earphone. I wanted to talk to her, but she was on the other side of the library. There was no one in the library - not even the librarian, so, Y/N wasn’t afraid of getting her phone taken.

As I organised the books, I could hear Y/N singing to a song. It wasn’t loud, but I was loud enough for me to hear. She was singing to one of Red Velvet sunbae’s songs - One Of These Nights. Her voice seriously suits the song, and her pitch is perfect.

Before I knew it, there was only one more shelf left. Y/N and I began arranging it together. This time, she didn’t wear her earphones. I guess she didn’t want to seem rude or something.

“You have a really beautiful voice,” I complimented her and suddenly stopped moving.

“W-what?” Y/N asked and I could see her cheeks turning red.

“The songs you sang, it was really good. You should sing more often,” I said with a smile.

“T-thank you,” Y/N replied and bent down to arrange the books on the lower part of the shelves. “Was I really that loud?” Y/N asked and shook my head.

“You weren’t loud, but the library’s very quiet. So, that’s why I could hear it,” I replied and she nod.

There was another silence again but I managed to find a topic a few minutes later.

“Do you want to have lunch tomorrow if we’re not punished for anything?” I asked and she giggled a little.

“Sure, why not,” she replied with a wide smile. “Let’s not get in trouble this time.”

Her smile’s so cute…

“Yeah,” I replied with a faint laugh.

The both of us didn’t get into trouble today - thankfully. Y/N invited Hina to join and I invited Jeno and Donghyuck to eat together.

Our table was pretty noisy but we weren’t disturbing anyone. We were talking about random stuff and Donghyuck kept making the whole table laugh. But the atmosphere changed a little bit when Jeno talked about me to Y/N.

“Jaemin finally had the guts to ask earphone girl to lunch,” Jeno said out loud.

“Earphone girl? Who’s that?” Y/N asked curiously.

“You - of course,” Jeno said and my face immediately became red.

“Why am I called earphone girl? I have a name you know,” Y/N said with a pout.

“It’s basically a code name for you,” Jeno said. “Because-”

“Alright that’s enough,” I said and covered Jeno’s mouth. “Anyway, Y/N. We’re going to have a Rookies Show this weekend. Do you want to come?”

“Am I even allowed to come?” Y/N asked and I nod.

“Of course, you are,” I said.

Y/N’s P.O.V.

After watching the Rookies Show, Jaemin came to the audience and brought me backstage.

“Are you I’m allowed to be here?” I asked unsurely and Jaemin nod.

“Yeah, I’ve told manager hyung,” Jaemin said and I followed him.

We then entered a room where all the other Rookies were in. It was pretty noisy and they all seemed to be talking about their performance and stuff.

When a few of them saw me, the room immediately grew quiet. My heart was beating so loud, I swear that the boys could all hear it.

“Hi, I’m Y/N. I’m Jeno, Donghyuck, and Jaemin’s classmate,” I introduced myself to the boys.

The boys looked at each other quietly and looked back at me.

“Y/N, as in earphone girl?” One of them asked.

“Umm, yes?” I replied and suddenly they all became very welcoming.

“So you’re the famous earphone girl that Jaemin’s always talking about,” another one of them said.

“Yah! Hyung!” Jaemin snapped at him.

“You know, Jaemin’s always talking about you during our practices,” another one of them said.

I felt my cheeks burning and just laughed awkwardly. I didn’t know he would be talking about me.

Before the boys could say anything else, Jaemin excused us and brought us out of the room. He brought me to stage.

“It’s huge,” I said and walked around the stage. “It must feel nice to be loved by lots of people.”

“Yeah,” Jaemin said. “But, it’s not that nice when the girl you love doesn’t talk to you often. But, I’m happy that she’s here now.”

I looked at him in shock and I felt my cheeks becoming red again.

“I know we don’t know each other well, but, can we try to become closer?” Jaemin asked me. “You don’t have to like me if you don’t feel the same way.”

“But what if I do feel the same way?” I asked and Jaemin looked at me in surprised.

“Y-you feel the same way?” Jaemin asked and I nod.

“I don’t talk to often because I feel nervous around you and I’m scared that I’ll be too weird for you and all,” I admitted to him.

“Well, maybe now you don’t have to be nervous,” Jaemin said to me with a wink. “So, do you want to try something out?”

“Sure, why not,” I replied with a smile and Jaemin kissed my cheeks lightly making me blush so much harder.

Thank you for requesting a Jaemin scenario! I don’t see lots of Jaemin scenarios either. I’m always happy to write about Jaeminnie xD Thank you so much for loving my writing xD I hope this scenario is okay…but to be honest..the ending feels rushed. I’ll try not to do that the next time. Enjoy reading~ <3

anonymous asked:

Do you think Kaiba loves Atem

Okay so, I’m gonna try to write this out without my shipping goggles because everyone knows how much I ship this.

The answer is….yes. And I don’t think in a fully acknowledged romance way either, but more of a platonic balance. ( when I figure out how to explain what I mean maybe I’ll write it in a separate thing )

Like…did you ever have that one best friend that you love so much? And it’s not a romantic type, but a “thank you for existing” type of love? Like the kind of friend you would want to go all extremes for because THAT IS YOUR HOMIE and you’ll be down for anything when it comes to them???

The funny thing is I don’t even think Kaiba realizes this. He does so much bizarre shit in Atem’s name and everyone else is probably brushing it off like “oh it’s just Kaiba being Kaiba and just obsessed with winning.” But honestly I think there’s a lot more behind it? Kaiba expresses himself more easily through dueling and I think that’s when we can see it. If you compare all their duels in chronological order, you can see it transitioning from plain old rivals to friendship.

And I would write more but I don’t want to write too much because I’ll probably go off topic asdfgjkll
