My realistic back to school tips

I got this idea from hellostudykatie.tumblr.com so thanks to her for this idea.

I thought since it is back to school time I would share my back to school tips that aren’t that far fetched because a lot of the studyblr community assume most people are organised. I on the other hand am not. I need a planner but sometimes I forget to use it. Sometimes we need straight to the point tips so here I am for you!

  • Get a planner/bullet journal: Over the past few years in school I was very unorganised so I started a bullet journal last year. I use a cheap notebook as my bullet journal and I use a very simple layout so it doesn’t take up too much time because typically I don’t have time to do much other than my school work. I have found it to be super useful to help me and keep myself motivated through out the year.
  • Write out your timetable: I takes me forever to learn my timetable. In April of this I stood outside a class that I didn’t even have for about 10 minutes So I like to write out my timetable at least three times and stick one in my school planner, one beside my door in my room and then save one onto my laptop. It comes in handy during the year if I get lost.
  • Go through all your stationery: I normally have a lot of stationery from the year before so before I go back to school shopping I like to go through every bit of stationery I own and make a list of what I need. This way I only buy the essentials and it saves money as well! I often buy stuff I don’t use or need.
  • Cut out people that have a negative effect in my life: I think this is a super important thing to do. If you have a “friend” that everyone in your life thinks has a negative effect on you believe them and cut them out of your life. I have had to do this with a few friends over the past few years and I have finally found a group of friends that I am super happy with.
  • Look through your textbooks: I usually wouldn’t do this but I have been revising over the summer so I plan on just reading over my notes before class starts in September!
  • Treat yourself the night before: I find the day before I go back to school is stressful and I tend to get very anxious so I like to treat myself the night before school starts. So I might have a bath or shower, moisturise, watch a few episodes of my favourite show or listen to music.
  • Start a routine about a week before: I start to go to bed earlier and wake up earlier to get my sleep schedule back on track. It won’t be too drastic but I will aim for an hour earlier than what I have been which is about 3am so I will try go to bed at 2 or half one and wake up about 9 or 10am.

So these are my realistic tips because sometimes we need those simple tips to get through the start of school year. Hope they help at least one person. I would be happy for people to add their own tip if they wanted!

I love the langblr community and honestly after a while you don’t even bat an eyelid when someone says they’re learning 4 languages at the same time. And then you feel like that’s what everyone does in their spare time, until you talk to someone irl and you’re like ‘oh yes I’m learning French, Russian, Danish, Arabic, Mandarin…!!’ and they’re like ‘are you okay???’ Then it hits you. And you remember that the average person doesn’t keep a bullet journal in three languages and cry over the smell of grammar books and you’re like OH. OK

Rich Goranski’s presquip wardrobe is sweaters ok

hey um. consider a stevens university au where the gems actually react realistically to steven bubbling bismuth:

  • pearl shrieks “you did WHAT?” and slaps a hand over her mouth, looking horrified
  • garnet clenches her fists and has to take a deep breath
  • she kneels down and holds steven’s shoulders and says “i know you were scared, and i’m sorry that we put you in that situation. sometimes we forget that you’re a child and there’s still so much we haven’t told you about the war. steven, bismuth wasn’t wrong to want to shatter the diamonds. the diamonds aren’t like you or me. what they’ve done… they deserve to be shattered. now, let’s unbubble bismuth, and then we can talk, okay?”
  • then they unbubble bismuth
  • she’s confused and angry; she didn’t think she’d come back so soon after the last time. there are tears in her eyes.
  • garnet and pearl wrap her in a hug as soon as she comes out
  • steven apologizes to her for poofing her and bismuth says “it’s okay, steven. i know now that you’re not rose quartz. my anger at her shouldn’t stop us from being friends.” steven holds out a hand to shake hers and she pulls him into a hug instead.
  • then they sit down on the floor and the gems tell steven about the war and about rose shattering pink diamond.
  • bismuth stays a member of the crystal gems and steven has the chance to learn more about his and his mother’s history!
  • (bonus: amethyst is feeling left out by all of this and when they sit down, she goes to sit on the couch instead, but bismuth grabs her hand and says “where are you going, girl? you’re a crystal gem too! come sit down next to me.”)

Armie on the difference between formulating sexual chemistry on screen with a man versus a woman…
“I don’t really feel that there’s much of a difference. Trying to create chemistry with a human is trying to create chemistry with a human. It’s about taking it off of yourself and reading them and taking what they’re giving you and allowing it to affect you. It’s about being so close and intimate with someone that you can detect those subtle changes that allow you to go on this sort of subtle dance.”

Timotheé on filming the infamous peach scene…
“I remember eating a peach maybe a week after that scene and thinking, ‘Oh, we did a scene with this fruit.’ I didn’t have it to the degree I do now but just from flicking around online, that’s the scene that’s consistently highlighted itself. It’s funny because now I’m about as aware of that as I could be. When we were shooting that scene, you know, sometimes I really would forget that the camera was there. By the time we did that scene it was almost like an out of body experience.”

Space. The final frontier. Final because it wants to kill us. Sometimes we forget that. Start taking it all for granted. The suits, the ships, the little bubbles of safety…as they protect us from the void. But the void is always waiting. So, how does space kill you? I’m glad you asked. The main problem is pressure. There isn’t any. So don’t hold your breath, or your lungs will explode. Blood vessels rupture. Exposed areas swell. Fun fact! The boiling temperature of water is much lower in a vacuum, which means that your sweat and your saliva will boil as will the fluid around your eyes. You won’t notice any of this because 15 seconds in, you’ve passed out as oxygen bubbles formed in your blood. And 90 seconds in, you’re dead.    o x y g e n

Man sometimes I think we forget just how psychologically damaging Afghanistan was for Tony. Like my professor was talking today about old anesthesia techniques and how there were a bunch of cases in the 30s, 40s, and 50s of surgeries where people were awake and could feel everything during the surgery. “That’s horrifically traumatizing,” he said, “to feel someone cutting into your body, moving internal organs around, and not being able to do anything about it. People came out of surgery with sometimes debilitating trauma.”

And Tony!! Woke up!! While Yinsen’s hand was literally inside his chest!!

But that barely registers in the grand scheme of his horror because hey, what’s waking up during surgery compared to watching young soldiers get shot in front of him and knowing it’s his fault? What’s that compared with living three months in constant pain and terror as a captive of his worst enemies, knowing that he could be killed at any moment, and he’s not even sure if anyone would be looking for his body? What’s that compared to literal torture, simulated drowning over and over again while clutching the car battery that’s keeping him alive because if a wire falls into the water he could be electrocuted? What’s that compared to the knowledge that his negligence has led to the slaughter of hundreds, if not thousands, of innocent people?

And then he gets home from all of that, and remember he’s really just a normal citizen and has never been taught how to deal with such hugely traumatic events, to be betrayed and left today by the man he considered a father. ONCE AGAIN HE WAS STUCK IN HIS OWN BODY, UNABLE TO DO ANYTHING AS HE DIED.

I mean, fuck! What the fuck!! How do you just recover from that???

Then, then, he is slowly poisoned to death by his own creation, then he’s sent to confront the void of space and his own insignificance, then he has to watch the woman he loves get tortured, then he’s forced to imagine everyone he loves and cares about dead or dying and believes it’s his fault, I mean Jesus Christ! I’m probably forgetting some stuff!! He never gets a fucking break!!

Tony Stark is bouncing from one traumatic experience from another like the world’s worst pinball machine!! No fucking wonder he’s suffering from debilitating PTSD, from depression and grief and self-loathing, from completely untreated mental illness. He is just trying to keep the people he loves safe, that is his number one goal at all times, always, and instead of recognizing his symptoms for what they are and trying to help him in return, his “friends” simultaneously take advantage of his generosity and hate on and criticize him for what are, quite frankly, quite understandable reactions to the honestly ridiculous amount of horrible things he’s lived through in just a few short years.

I’m sorry I lost my train of thought, it’s very late and I’m very passionate, but basically what I’m trying to say is: give Tony Stark a break for fuck’s sake!! He is ill and suffering and he is just trying his best goddamn it!! Fuck!!!!
