but really just glance at them

brambleberrycottage  asked:

The proposal just made my evening! It was wonderful and sweet and awkwardly halting. Just right! And K2 sounded very much himself. Of course this raises a dozen questions about their marriage and Luke and Jyn's friendship, how does Kay get on with Jyn, etc. I shan't trouble you with them all just now because this was just meant as a thank you! I thoroughly enjoyed it :D

Thank you! I’m glad you liked it :) :)

Kaytoo can be a bit of a challenge, but he was amazingly fun to write for this one. And I really did want the proposal to be both sweet, in a them way, and phenomenally awkward, so thank you there, too.

Feel free to ask anything, though I can’t promise to answer if it’s too spoilery :P

Luke and Jyn are very definitely friends; they have a lot more in common that is evident at first glance, including some decided similarities in their respective relationships to Leia and Cassian. Obviously there are some major differences, but they both started off from a place of “the Empire is a problem, but not my problem, I’ve got to focus on my own people” and were plainly inspired by these odd crusading spies / losing everything they knew.

(I think Luke admires Cassian for many of the same reasons he admires Leia, but without the instinctive camaraderie/psychic tie that they have, he’s not as comfortable with him. So he and Jyn are a bit closer.)

Kay and Jyn are basically the “vitriolic bros” trope. At heart/datachip, they respect and even like each other a great deal, but temperamentally they still clash. So they tend to default to quarrelling, but it’s essentially friendly. Now and then they find themselves in total accord, and they’re pretty much unstoppable when it happens.

“I’m finished” Luna stepped out of the mirror view “What do you think?”

Iris, who had kept her eyes closed during the whole hairdo session, found her reflection looking her back

“Whoa! This is amazing!” Her eyes couldn’t leave the arrange of colorful flowers, intertwined with the hair extensions in a sophisticated side braid “It looks really beautiful!”

“You like it? It’s the first time I work with extensions, I was not sure how it would turn out but-”

A knock on the door interrupted them.

“Iris it’s me. Ravus is here too, like we promised” Gladiolus voice echoed behind the door. Sending a quick glance at Luna for approval, Iris answered “Just a minute! We’re almost ready!”

Resigned, Gladio leaned against the wall opposite to the girls room in preparation for what would surely be more than ‘just a minute’.
“Heh, sisters.”
Ravus only answer was a knowing smile.

“Yuuri!”

Viktor gracefully weaves through the crowd, his sole focus the crop of black hair that pauses just ahead. He skids to a stop, very nearly slamming right into him as he turns to blink in his confusion.

“Uh…” Yuuri glances around the crowd surrounding them. He lifts a hand, turning a pointed finger toward his chest. “Yes? Was it… were you shouting to me?"

"Of course!” Viktor claps Yuuri on the shoulder, pointedly ignoring the way it makes him jump and lean away. “I’ve finally found you!"

"Found me?” Yuuri wipes his hands on his pants, his eyes darting every which way. “I’m really thinking you might have the wrong person. How do you know my name? We… I don’t think we’ve met."

"Oh, we have,” Viktor assures him with a smile. He expects this, ignores the painful way his heart clenches as he sticks out a hand. “And if you’ve forgotten, well… I’ll reintroduce myself. Viktor Nikiforov." When Yuuri hesitantly extends his hand, Viktor snatches it and brings it to his lips. "Yuuri Katsuki, it’s a pleasure to remake your acquaintance."

As he drops Yuuri’s hand, his own instinctively rises, extending toward Yuuri’s cheek. The desire to brush his fingers over the smooth, flushed skin is so overwhelming that Viktor nearly gives in. Until he remembers his place and his hand falls back to his side.

"Viktor Niki…” Yuuri stares at him, rubbing a hand across his chin in thought. “That name… isn’t that the name of a famous figure skater from a long time ago?"

Viktor’s lips twitch, his heart racing at the thought that maybe, just maybe he’ll figure it out.

"Your parents must’ve been big fans."

"Ah,” Viktor chuckles, smiling past the pain he won’t allow himself to acknowledge. “Yes, very big fans. Yuuri?"

Yuuri blinks. "I’m… it’s strange when you call my name. I’m still pretty sure you’re looking for someone else."

"I’m only ever looking for you,” Viktor replies softly, taking Yuuri’s hand and guiding him away from the crowd. He hears Yuuri spluttering his confusion behind him and whips around to ask, “Do you skate?"

"Do I–?” Yuuri’s eyes widen. “Ice skate, you mean? Oh no,” He shakes his head, rubbing his nape with a shaky laugh. “If only I could. I’m not nearly coordinated enough. I mean, I can’t even step on the ice without falling on my– well, you get what I mean. I just–”

Viktor tightens his grip on Yuuri’s hand. “What do you do, Yuuri?” He leans closer. “What is your passion?"

"My passion? My…” Yuuri turns his face away from the intensity of Viktor’s stare, watching the people pass by. “I want to be a composer. I’ve been trying to find the right theme for my music. Something that will astonish everyone, make everyone feel something."

Viktor feels his heart skip a beat. Music… of course. Yuuri has always had an innate ability to create music, one way or another. He watches as Yuuri’s eyes sparkle with the same determination Viktor was familiar with in another lifetime.

"You’re still so beautiful, it’s disarming,” Viktor breathes aloud, the reality of it all hitting him at once. Yuuri stands in front of him. The same Yuuri. His Yuuri. He may not know it yet, not know what he means to Viktor, but he will.

Yuuri’s face turns a bright red and he immediately tries to pull his hand away, stammering unintelligible words in a manner that’s more endearing to Viktor than it had ever been before.

Because he’s missed it.

“Love,” Viktor finally cuts through Yuuri’s rambling. “Your theme should be love."

Yuuri falls silent, finally lifting his head to meet Viktor’s intense gaze head on. The recognition sparks in his eyes, if only for a moment, and Yuuri draws in a sharp, soft breath of realization.

"Love…” he repeats. Viktor feels Yuuri’s grip tighten. “Thank you so much, Viktor” A brilliant smile breaks across his face. “Love is… that’s it. That’s what I’m looking for."

Viktor smiles back. Me too.

Why people may think I ship shance: “that guys my hero!”

Why I actually ship shance: the little glances from Lance that have concern written all over them when it comes to having Sendak captive. The fact Shiro picked up Lance and carried him after the explosion and was worried about him the entire time. The fact that Shiro is Lance’s impulse control. That Lance got Shiro to act like a completely dork by starting the laser gun noises. The high potential they have for being really good for each other. Shiro’s pep talks helping Lance through insecurities. Lance’s humor being able to help Shiro not chase the rabbit to keep him from breaking down. Shiro helping Lance ‘grow up’ to be more mature but with his sense of humor that helps keep people sane. Etc. etc.

Let’s talk Diana.

People get so riled up over their Best Girls and here I am just shoving more fire into the fire. Gyahahaha!

But that’s not really what this is about. Let’s talk Diana. Because I want to talk Diana.

Her type is always set up to be the haughty snob at first glance.

That’s so fucking good and you know why?

So they can take your first impressions and slap you across the face with them.

Yes, she’s arrogant, self-righteous, a bit pompous and can be quite condescending to those who are less adept than she is. But that’s exactly what makes her so interesting because none of those negative traits can be called shallow and the events in this episode back that up.

Also, it’s pretty clear that she doesn’t exist solely to antagonize the MC over trivial things (for example, elite status) and can definitely hold her own story without being an outright nemesis to the heroine.

That’s what makes her worthy of attention but in a different way than how the central focus is on Akko and her friends.

Already we can blatantly see her flaws which only serve to highlight how complex she is and foretell the character development she will probably undergo throughout the course of the show. Those qualities don’t really harm her or make her intolerable but rather point to the depth and potential expansion of her character.

I mean, firstly, all that composure and confidence had to come from somewhere and voila, they tell us from the get-go.

Diana is descended from a long (damn, 1,500 years long!) line of witches. That means she inherits a big legacy of magical discipline and prestige. Considering the fact that even adult witches sometimes have trouble with certain magic, Diana has even more expectations to live up to because she comes from a highly esteemed family that’s been practicing and improving magic for many, many generations.

Not to mention, she’s been proclaimed in the community as being the “greatest witch since the founding of Luna Nova” so no doubt it’ll be an even greater challenge for her to go beyond what those before her had accomplished.

And not only does she step up to this very daunting task, displaying her skill and talent again and again by casting high level spells here and there and proving that she really is as brilliant as they say she is…

…but she does so without needing anyone’s validation.

As much as her posse endlessly praise her for how awesome and amazing she is, Diana doesn’t need those extra words because she knows she’s perfectly capable of handling anything that comes her way.

That’s not to say she doesn’t let their attention get to her head (c’mon, this definitely happened at one point and is likely still happening, albeit in controlled amounts, as we speak) but Diana is deserving of her pride because she worked hard to cultivate her powers, not because she is a genius.

She’s not good because it’s a “miracle”. She’s good because she earned it.

And there’s no shame in showing that.

However, it’s true that Diana still needs to learn what it means to be humble and realize that she hasn’t mastered everything there is to know about magic yet.

I mean, it’s apparent that she overestimates her own abilities but that’s fine because like I said earlier, she’s set up for that kind of development in the future.

At the very least, even though she’s smug, she isn’t crass. Not like her two “friends” who like to put others down to get the pleasure of feeling superior. That’s probably the biggest reason why they hang around Diana and it just makes me like Diana even more because a person like her would never need to stoop down to their level.

Adding to that, this scene here further proves that Diana is, in fact, not a jerk.

Snooty, yes. But a bitch? Mmm, no, I don’t think so. Not from what we’ve seen of her so far anyway.

It’d be so easy for the writers to turn Diana into a Draco Malfoy-like adversary to oppose Akko but they didn’t. Which is why I love Trigger tremendously for how they presented her character and why I sometimes refer to Diana as the “Draco I always wanted”.

That Diana approached Akko to correct her views on what magic is, not harshly but in a matter-of-factly and politely manner. That she didn’t care whether Akko knew who she was or not but actually remembered that Akko was the new student. That she even took up the offer of referring to Akko by her nickname despite not being friends with her (though that might be due to the concept of keigo getting lost in transition to a non-Japanese environment).

All this is more than enough evidence to crush any ideas that she’s out to bully Akko. It tells us that even if Diana may not be the most amiable person in the world, she is a decent one.

I mean, yea, she was slightly cruel here for disparaging Akko’s idol right in front of her (and hypocritical since Diana was also a fan when she was younger) but it’s not like what she said isn’t true.

Chariot was mostly known for her flashy performances but that seemed to be the extent of her influence in both the witch and human realms. Then she upped one day and vanished.

Chariot did give Akko a dream but it was a kid’s dream and that is not practical in the reality of magic, which entails a lot more complicated topics and study if you are to become a successful witch. Even Chariot had to have gone through tons of practice in order to be as good as she was on stage.

Point is, Diana was trying to warn Akko for her own good even though she didn’t go about the best way of doing it.

It’s certainly one thing for Chariot to do impressive magic but it’s another thing entirely for Akko to attempt to do the same.

Because unlike most of the other students there, Akko has no magical background. She entered the academy with the hopes of living out her fantasies. How is someone who has a low affinity for magic and so impatient to start shooting shiny spells left and right going to fare if she doesn’t learn to apply the basics first?

Badly. Akko or someone else can get seriously hurt if she meddles in things she doesn’t truly comprehend.

That’s why Diana flat out laid this caution onto her. Because magic isn’t all fun and games and lights in the sky. Magic, in the witches’ world, is serious business. And if Akko doesn’t get that through her head to fit somewhere among her fervent adoration for Chariot, then her dream of learning magic will end in vain, the Shiny Rod reacting to her “shinjiru kokoro” be damned.

And that’s… oddly thoughtful of Diana? And responsible as an advanced student as well?

In the same sort of roundabout way she helped plucked that plant off of Akko’s head while trying to show her how magic is actually done in their world. So that Akko is aware, like really aware, of what she’s invested herself in and what the consequences are if she neglects the rules.

Clearly, they’re going to continue to clash over the interpretation of magic but when it comes down to what are established foundations and such, I’m always going to be more inclined towards Diana’s side of the argument.

Because it’s always more reliable to work off of sound theories that have been tested and tested again and provided actual results… than to wait for something that may or may not happen because you went about it based on a whim.

I’m not saying it’s wrong for Akko to believe. I’m just saying this isn’t a mahou shoujo anime. :P

Ah, I strayed off a bit so back to the rest of what I wanted to say.

If the scene in the courtyard wasn’t enough to convince you that Diana isn’t just showing off her magical prowess (because admittedly, yes, she is a bit of a show-off, too, there’s no denying that) then the issue with the Memorial Tree should.

Like any dedicated honors student, it’s expected that Diana would be very involved in the workings of the school. Because the academy is part of her lineage as much as any other witch’s out there so even if nobody asked her to help, she’d still try to find a way to solve the problems the school faces.

Because responsibility.

Diana has been gifted with talent and intellect. If there is anytime to use those, it’s now. Otherwise, it’d be wasted on her.

It’s no wonder why she’s so admired in the witch community. Because she does useful stuff with her magic. And efficiently, too.

Unlike Akko who doesn’t have any particular or specific goals regarding what she wants to do with magic atm, Diana actually has a purpose for hers.

And really, we don’t need to say anymore than that. If you’re good at something, then do something with it. That’s the lesson here. It’s just that simple.

Moving along, what happened after Diana’s spell was cast only further supports just how responsible she is.

Her magic unearthed the parasites so what does she do? Act immediately to counter the new problem.

I really, really like that about her. How she takes magic so seriously, especially when her own magic added to the dilemma. Most people would wait for a teacher to come to fix it. Lesser people would run away because they don’t want to be held accountable.

Not Diana. She’s the one that caused it, even if it was out of the best intentions, so she has to own up to it.

Again, responsibility.

And then there’s this part.

A reminder that nobody (besides Ursula) could’ve known that those were Papillodya chrysalises (well duh, no one has seen one because they only appear every 120 years after all) and it was just a very plot-convenient coincidence that Akko happened to guess correctly at what they are right after relooking through her collectable cards that day.

That aside, nobody is in the wrong here. Diana was pressed for time so it wasn’t like she had the leisure of hearing Akko out. Honestly, who would in that sort of situation? Moreover, who would really believe her?

But she still expressed shock and worry when Akko took the brunt of her spell. Even though it was Akko’s own fault for not thinking first and jumping out to block the hit, Diana obviously feels bad that her magic still hurt her.

Again, proof that Diana is not a jerk. She does care because she is a decent person.

And when it came down to using the right spell, Diana took a step back to let Akko handle it.

What’s more is that she aided Akko in the proper pronunciation of the spell and Akko thanked Diana.

Quite often you’d expect the prideful characters to want to do everything themselves. Try to butt out their rivals and prove they’re better that sort of thing because that’s the pattern of behavior for those kind of archetypes.

Except that didn’t happen here. Like not even the tiniest suggestion that it could’ve gone that way.

Diana’s got her priorities straight. She’s not thinking of wanting to claim credit or how it will affect her sense of worth if she allowed Akko to resolve this issue. She’s not thinking of questioning whether the Shiny Rod will actually work. That’s not important. What’s important is to prevent this mess from becoming any bigger than it is right then.

Like…wow. It shouldn’t be extraordinary for someone to behave so rationally and cooperatively but it is a little for me because the works I go through often has that bad tendency to go in a crazier direction over some very dumb, contrived reason when it’d be easier to do it the straightforward way.

Anyways, to finish this off, after the matter is settled, Diana tries to protest that the removal of the chrysalises were her doing.

Again, a much lesser person would be tempted to lie and save their own reputation but Diana’s troubled reaction to the staff’s insistence that nobody else but her could’ve done it illustrates that she’s not like that. She knows that it was thanks to Akko that the tree was revitalized and therefore, can’t possibly accept acknowledgement that doesn’t belong to her.

Diana is a person of integrity and if I didn’t love her before, I certainly do now because I value integrity so much that it probably ranks at the top on my list of virtues.

So as you can see, it’s because Diana is such a mixture of so many traits including pride, dignity, responsibility, seriousness, honesty (to name a few) that they all come to nicely clash and conflict inside her, pushing her towards the changes we can anticipate for her.

And this is a sure sign as anything that the development process has already begun.

She saw with her own eyes the effectiveness of the Shiny Rod, which disproves her statement that there never was any significance behind Chariot’s magic. However, that doesn’t mean she’s ready to accept it. Not after all that training she must have gone through to drill those childish thoughts out of her head so that she can fully set out to become a proper witch. Which is why she’s hesitant to mention Akko despite what the professors say about her being the “pride of Luna Nova”.

That is sooooo good, this introduction of doubt. Question it, Diana. Continue to ask as many times as it will take because it can only lead you to becoming a better witch and above all, develop into an even greater character.

With that, I suspect Diana won’t be making any major appearances for a while since Akko’s team has a little more world exploring to do and the plot around Chariot needs the time for more exposition.

But I just want others to, well, not really know but rather discuss with me that Diana isn’t so much a rival to Akko (right now) as she is her foil and vice versa. And I think that contrast between them is far more interesting than a direct competitive relationship. They can still argue, they don’t have to be friends but they don’t have to hate each other to contribute to each other’s growth. Akko can benefit from actually studying magical theory and progressing towards her goal that way while Diana can gradually relax her stiff posture to look beyond her scientific, analytical methods and realize even more potential in herself.

At least that’s what I hope will happen.

Tl;dr: I lied. This is about Best Girl. Diana is Best Girl. Fight me. (ง'̀-‘́)ง

I think favorite thing about Matt Martin is that at first glance it’s like “wow he’s really humoring the rookies and going along with their shinanigans” but like if you look closer HE’S the one that posted the video of them dabbing, HE’S the one that started the weird handshake finger wiggle thing. Like its just Matt….he’s, a nerd.

  • in another life, inej and nina would be roommates in the university district
  • there’s this elusive air about them, secretive glances in each other’s direction, wordless conversations across opposite ends of the classrooms
  • and on campus, they’re always seen huddling close to each other, whispering even when no one is close enough to hear them
  • they’re the type of girls you’d inevitably spend too much time trying to figure out. and when you spot them at the cafe you can’t help stare because you want to see if they’d run out of things to say or jokes to laugh at and if it’s just the lighting or are they really glowing as they look at each other
  • it’s also a mystery how they work when they couldn’t be more different
  • inej walks around with her hood drawn up, passing through campus like a shadow, unknowable and unapproachable
  • meanwhile nina smiles at everyone in passing and would even strike up a full conversation with an inanimate object. she’s also the loudest person at any party, parties inej has never shown interest in attending
  • but the girls don’t care if no one gets them because in the safe confines of their own room no one exists but the two of them

I CAN’T GET OVER HOW ADORABLE THIS SCENE IS. We may not hear the dialogue but we don’t need it.

  • B&B’s little girl playing with cars!!
  • But even cuter is B&B playing along and really getting into it. Heee, look at them bickering away, you just know both of them want to “win”.
  • Also, Booth’s face in the last gif when he glances at Brennan when she’s not looking, HE’S SO HAPPY AND HAVING FUN AND I JUST WANT TO CRY.

Timid it seems but really he’s careful.

Rick is the only one who truly knows Michonne, and not just in the biblical way!

He appears to be timid in some of his interactions with her, example his approach in the cell and also when he asks her to give him the gun. And again here when she say she will try.

Notice he doesn’t gloat or speak, he just silently and somewhat shyly glances at her.

I’ve been thinking about this and it’s not that he’s afraid of her per say, but what he is afraid of is her fragility.

To everyone around them Michonne is looked at as strong, capable, confident, and can hold her own all by herself.

And she can and she is.

But Rick sees beyond this part of her to the underside that is totally feminine, soft, beautiful, and as fragile as the sheerest of butterfly wings!

I love Rick for this! He sees Michonne! And he’s careful, not fearful. He’s s careful not to crush her because he knows she’s been crushed before. She’s given him the gift of her love and he wants to let her know that he cherishes that. He doesn’t say it, but he shows her through touch.

So often strong black women are stereotyped as one dimensional, strong as oxen, not looking for love nor expecting it! We are hardly ever seen as women with multiple dimensions. As soft women who can also be strong.

Rick has figured out what most strong black women desire. To be touched. To be held, to be loved, to be heard, to be THE one.

So when Rick appears timid with Michonne he’s not. He’s just carefully allowing for the spread of her beautiful butterfly wings!

Because he wants her to know that she is THE one!

My mom has this saying: “You have one boy, you have a whole brain. Two boys, half a brain. Three boys, a quarter left. And four boys: no brain at all.”

It’s an attempt to explain why boys in groups of increasing number seem to become increasingly stupid (read: not necessarily mean, just juvenile).

One boy and a model rocket is probably no cause for alarm.

Four boys and a model rocket? You can almost guarantee that even if they’re thirty years old, it’s gonna end in them trying to blow the launchpad up on purpose while they stand WAY TOO CLOSE.

So, I think of that often.

Really often.

*sidelong glance at Damian Wayne, Tim Drake, Jason Todd, and Dick Grayson*

They spoke very little of their mutual feeling; pretty phrases and warm expressions being probably unnecessary between such tried friends.

Life works in a way that we can’t see at first glance. Why did this situation have to hurt? You’ve been damaged before, this is nothing new. You need to make mistakes. A whole fucking lot of them. You’ve been here before, I know you have. You treat someone wrong just to learn how to listen. When someone tells you that you’ve hurt them, damn it, you fucking did. I’ve seen my heart run dry, I’ve ran out of words to try and save us. They say that seeing is believing. I get it now. You don’t really know yourself, you don’t really love yourself– you just think you do. This is a poem for you, but it’s also very much for different versions of myself– or rather, this is being written from the many wasted years. When you’re a ghost town and in the middle of nowhere– any form of acceptance sounds beautiful. When you’re a shell of passion that you can’t recall, when you’re trying to create a better you– are you still the same fuck up if you ever get better? I still don’t know my own reflection. I still don’t understand myself. There is a dark veil slicing up my thoughts, some people call it depression. And fuck, it’s never sad. Nowadays, there’s always something missing. Like a love with no trust. Like going a whole day with just clouds. Like memories with blurry faces, I’m disconnected from reality sometimes. I say what I don’t mean and I’m hurting with no feelings. Life is a stranger we pass by everyday. Have we met before? Do you really love me? What do you like about me? Wait, before you speak. Maybe we’re the same. They say lovers eventually mirror one another. You don’t ask for much. Not for poetry. Not for art. Not for anything really… not even for love itself. You know… you only ask for one thing. Honesty. So when I read a text and don’t answer it like I used to, it doesn’t mean that I like you a little bit less than I did yesterday. So when I’m quiet and just stare into the phone, it doesn’t mean that you’re not interesting. So when you say that you love me back and I question what it is exactly that you love about me… it doesn’t mean that I don’t love you too… it just means we’ve got more time to figure us out.

>I narrow my eyes.
>“Your task: to animate the rise and fall of Alpha Universe Dave Strider and Rose Lalonde, and subsequently the Alpha Universe as a whole, to the beat of it.”
>“To a song from High School Musical 3?” a foolish, mocking animator asks. He will soon be thrown to the sharks.
>“Yes,” I say. “To ‘I Want It All’ from High School Musical 3.”

Mocking Jay

AN: Last week, I had people send me a title and I told them what I would write. I ended up writing little drabbles for all that were sent in. I’ll be posting them throughout the weekend.

Original Post

You sit with Alfred, picking through the Halloween candy. You pop a mini snickers in your mouth, and chew, while you watch the show. You swallow and finally say, “It’s actually really creative.”

Alfred just “Hmms” before he pops a mini peanut butter cup in his mouth. “I could do without the yelling.”

You nod, “To be fair I probably would have killed him by now, or at least tried.”

“I believe Master Dick is the only thing keeping this from turning into a bloodbath.”

You glance at Dick. He has Damian pinned on the ground with his knees while keeping a tight grip on the back Tim’s shirt.

Your eyes move to Jason. He’s wearing his regular clothes, with the exception of a name tag, that simply says, Hello My name is Jay.

You pop another bite of chocolate in your mouth, “Should we help?”

Jason’s eyes turn towards you, a smirk on his lips, and right as he opens his mouth you hold up a finger, to stop him and say, “Keep in mind that Dick is busy holding down those two, and as cool as Alfred is, he won’t stop me from killing you a second time if you start that Mocking Jay crap with me. So if you know what’s good for you, you’ll let me eat the trick-or-treat candy in peace.”

Jason just smiles, shrugs, and starts in on Dick. When both Damian and Tim escape his grip, you’re one hundred percent sure that it’s not an accident.

Part 1 Part 2 Part 4

You nodded at all of them, putting the pen in the pocket of the pants you were given. You saw Hamilton’s face drop, and a small snicker from Mulligan. You stood up, giving all of them a quick glance, finally landing on Hamilton’s face.

“So, how am I going to get back home?” You asked the men. Lafayette looked at the others, then shrugged.

“No idea, miss. Maybe we can create this machine you call a moving paper that you research words on. How you say…?” He asked, waving his hand around.

“A computer. It’s called a computer.” You mumbled. “But you haven’t even created electricity, and the first computer was in the 1900s. So there’s no way that’s going to happen.” Laurens bit his lip.

“Electricity? What is this electricity?” Laurens asked, looking at his friends for help.

“And you said 1900s. Does this mean that the colonies still exist at that time?” Hamilton asked after.

“And why do you speak these strange words, are you trying to confuse us?” Mulligan questioned, crossing his arms.

“I am very of the confused.” Lafayette sat on the stool next to Hamilton’s desk, putting his head in his hands. “These English people are more fusing than the empire.”

“fusing? Don’t you mean confusing?” You helped, and Lafayette nodded. “Guys, I get it, it’s strange to hear about this stuff. Honestly, I want to tell you everything, I do. But I don’t know what could happen. I mean, I told you about a pen, and you guys thought it was witches-“

“That was Hamilton.” Mulligan pointed out, gesturing towards the man. Hamilton looked at you shyly, glancing down at the floor. You smiled at him, then looked back at Mulligan. He winked.

“That’s not the point I was trying to make. You see, even mentioning these things can change the course of the world. I mean, I’ve watched so many films about time traveling…” You trailed off, looking at the perturbed men in front of you.

“Are you talking about something like Gulliver’s Travels?” Hamilton asked, and you nodded, thanking him for the reference. “I want to help you, Miss Y/N. Anything with what you might need, I am here to help you.” He stared at you intensely, his eyes never leaving yours.

The five of you talked like this for a while, trying to come up with the best ideas. Mulligan mentioned a gypsy that he “knew” the other night, but you dropped that idea, not wanting to deal with any type of magic. It just doesn’t seem realistic to you. Laurens had few ideas, one was for you to pretend to be a man while you were staying inside the tent. You denied that idea too, since it might make you fight in a battle you certainly weren’t ready for. Lafayette did not have much to say, sometimes interrupting your chats with random questions. Hamilton paced back and forth across the tent, his hand under his chin and his eyes lost in his head. You admired how hard he was thinking about this.

“How about this, Miss Y/N. You go to a fortune teller, and they may be able to help you find out the answer.” Mulligan pumped his fist in the air, happy his idea was chosen. You sighed, looking at his antics. “Listen, this makes the most sense. Since this is, in fact, a supernatural occurrence, we might need supernatural help. Even if it is a witch.” All the men shuddered at the thought, besides Mulligan. He was grinning widely.

You told them earlier that they did not have to use miss when addressing you, but they seemed to ignore your request, continuing to call you this anyway.

“I have the woman’s address, if you want to write her a letter.” You forgot that they did not have phones, and frowned. Sending a letter would take too long, and you needed help as soon as possible.

“No, we go to her tonight. Miss Y/N needs help as quickly as possible. There’s no time for waiting.” Hamilton replied, reading your mind. He glanced over at you, as if he was asking if this was okay. You nodded, touching his arm. He blushed at the contact, and you let go quickly.

Right, no touching.

“I agree, but we should wait until morning. You four must be exhausted, and it’s been a long day. Especially for you.” You looked at Hamilton. He nodded slowly, turning towards the men.

“Tomorrow morning at four we leave to the witch.”

“Gypsy.” Mulligan corrected, causing a glare from Hamilton. They all began to walk out, but not before glancing over at me.

“Where is Miss Y/N going to rest? She cannot sleep in a man’s tent.” Lafayette said. You shrugged, looking around for a blanket. You saw one hanging up in the corner, and pointed to it.

“I’ll just sleep on the floor, not a big deal.” They all gasped, shaking their heads quickly. They were all speaking at the same time, and it was hard to understand everything that was being tossed back and forth. You barely deciphered what was going on, and watched their ranting to each other:

Lafayette: No lady sleeps on the floor, not even in the middle of a war.

Laurens: She can sleep in our tent, Laf. No one would mess with her if she’s there.

Lafayette: That is the truth, Laurens. Our tent is very safe for females.

Mulligan: The way you said that Laf made you sound quite strange. And creepy.

Hamilton: What are you trying to say? She’ll be just fine in mine! And she met me first, so she’ll be the most comfortable in my tent.

Mulligan: She could sleep in mine.

All (besides Mulligan): NO!

“Okay, guys, okay! I’m standing right here, and you’re ignoring me. Hello?” You tried to speak through their arguing, but they talked over you.

You decided to grab the cover you found in the corner of the room, beginning to make your makeshift bed on the floor. They didn’t notice you creating the mat on the floor, but their arguing grew louder. You tensed up, hoping no one heard what they were talking about exactly. After you took one of the sheets from Hamilton’s bed, you laid on the ground, turning your back to the men.

“Miss Y/N, right you’ll be fine in here, right?” Hamilton said, noticing your figure on the ground. You were soon sound asleep, tired of listening to their talking. Hamilton turned back to the men, smiling. “She’s safe in here with me, friends. I’ll see you tomorrow morning.” They all walked out the room, Mulligan grumbling something about Hamilton always getting his way. Hamilton blew out the candles in the tent, making his way to the cot.

He hated leaving you to sleep on the floor, so, while making sure you were sound asleep, he picked you off the floor, placing you on his bed. You mumbled something about cupcakes, he has never heard about cups being made into cake, and he pulled the sheet on top of you, knowing that the nights grew quite cold around here.

He took himself to the floor, laughing softly at the makeshift bed you created. You were very different, different from anyone he has ever met. As Hamilton adjusted to the curve of the ground, he faced you, watching your body lift and fall from the breaths you took. He was interested in learning more about you, more about where you were from. Of course he wanted you to go back to your home safety, but he couldn’t help but feel a pang in his chest. He’s only just met you, and he wanted you to stay with him if possible.

He closed his eyes, dreaming of you and him sitting in the tent, talking about nothing and everything.

Hamilton opened his eyes, their gaze immediately landing on the empty cot in front of him. He scrambled off the floor, looking around the room. You were no where to be found. He panicked, mentally slapping himself. He should have slept in front of you, he should have been paying more attention. Hamilton began to shake, scared of what might have happened to you. He heard the tent door rustle, and looked towards it quickly. You walked in, wearing an elegant dress. You smiled at Hamilton, and he sighed in relief, his hand against the left side of his chest.

“Are you all right, Hamilton?”

“Y-Yes, Miss Y/N. I am fine, how are you, did you sleep well?” You nodded, smoothing down the fabric. He was smiling at you, and you wondered why he was so happy. He was scanning your figure, looking at your new outfit.

“I slept fine. You put me on your bed, did you not?” You cringed at your poor attempt of speaking how they did in the 1700s. Hamilton did not seem to notice, but his face reddened.

He was spitting out words fast, making your head hurt. “I, I’m sorry for touching you, Miss Y/N. It is improper, and I should not have-“

“Whoa, whoa, slow your roll there, Ham. It’s fine, I am not warning you not to do it again. I’m, I’m thanking you. Thank you, Alexander, for lending me your bed for the night. I really appreciate your kindness.”

Alexander smiled at you shyly, looking down at the ground. “There is nothing that I would not do to please you, Miss Y/N.” You laughed nervously, playing with your fingers.

“Sorry to interrupt this very intense conversation, but it is four, and we have to leave before rollcall.” Laurens said, peeking his head in. He looked at you, and smiled. “You look beautiful, Miss Y/N!” You giggled.

“Thank you, John. Hercules picked it out for me.” You heard a snorting in the background, and looked at Alexander, a forced smile on his face.

“Of course, it’s Mulligan, it’s always Mulligan.” Another head popped in, his curls pulled back, except for one. You smiled at Lafayette, and he winked at you.

“Hurry up and get ready, mon ami. We have to leave.” You decided to let Alexander get himself together, leaving him in the tent alone. You did not notice the jealous glare when you mentioned Mulligan, or how his eyes stayed on your dress for a little too long. Lafayette and Laurens hid you on the way to the tree where you said that all of you would meet.

Laurens mentioned what type of relationship that you have with Hamilton, and you just shrugged. “Nothing really, we did just meet yesterday. I barely know him.” You replied, causing a snicker from the Irishman leaning on the tree.

“Courting does not take that long, Miss Y/N. By the way he goes after you, you may be engaged within a week.” Mulligan teased. You rolled your eyes, shaking your head at him.

“I’m not gonna marry a man I’ve just met. It takes time, like maybe a few years?” Lafayette widened his eyes at your response.

“Years? Miss, that’s very strange, I have never heard this before. The longest time I have heard was a few months.” You shrugged your shoulders. Being married in a few weeks? No way, that’s insane. Well, at least it was to you. The strange looks that the three men gave you made you guess that that was a very common occurrence. Hamilton finally came out of his tent, without his revolutionary uniform on. You then noticed all the men were without their uniform, wearing what you suppose was casual wear.

You all followed Mulligan to the woman’s address, the friends laughing and joking along the way. There were few people up this early in the morning, and the ones you saw gave you all strange looks, their gaze mainly focusing on you. You felt like an outsider, covering yourself with the jacket that Laurens gave you. After about a half an hour or so of walking, you walked up to the woman’s house. Mulligan knocked on the front door.

Within seconds, a woman appeared on the other side. She glared at Mulligan, hitting him on the arm. Mulligan cursed, backing up at little from her. She was, very interesting. The ruffles on her sleeves cascaded down to the floor, her dress long and wide. You glanced down at yours, thanking the tailor that he gave you one less attention-grabbing.

“Sir, I told you to never see me again. Why are you on the porch of my home?” She glared at the other men around her, her eyes finally landing on me. “Miss Y/N, I’m sorry that you have to deal with these men, especially him.” She nudged Mulligan.

How did she know your name?

“How did you know her name?” Hamilton asked, standing slightly in front of you. You peeked over his shoulder, glancing at the woman. She laughed, opening her door wider.

“This man did not lie when he said I could help you. Come in.” All the men shared a glance with one another, then entered the home. You hoped that she could help you get back home.
