but martha and wilf

Reasons to Love Bill Potts

- Her introduction is her as an ACTUAL CHARACTER rather than her as the wibbly story arc of the season (thank you so much Moffat)

- Gets a ton of funny lines

- Pearl Mackie is one hell of an actor

- Wide-eyed, curious and adorable

- Ditzy but still insanely smart to the point of getting ridiculously high scores on her essays (a fact of which I am insanely jealous)

- Has immense respect for the Doctor without ever defining herself around him like so many other companions in NuWho (and not just Moffat-era either. I’m looking at you Rose)

- On a similar note, is strong and stands up to him without ever seeming condescending or ‘you may be the Doctor but I know you better than you know yourself’ and all the slapping him and

- Basically, just a really, really dang good and healthy relationship with the Doctor

- Has a clear inferiority complex but never takes it out on the people around her

- Her first reaction to seeing depressed Heather is to sit down and ask her what’s wrong, because that’s what she feels is right.

- Basically so incredibly kind and selfless to everybody she’s basically the anti-Rose Tyler

- Oh did I mention that THE FRONT AND CENTRE POSTER GIRL FOR ONE OF THE BIGGEST WESTERN SCI-FI SHOWS EVER MADE (AND A FAMILY SHOW AT THAT) IS UNASHAMEDLY GAY AND A WOMAN OF COLOUR WITHOUT EVER SUCCUMBING TO EITHER OF THE STEREOTYPES ASSOCIATED WITH THOSE

Can we keep Bill Potts forever please?

Doctor Who Companion Name Etymologies - Part 4/4

DISCLAIMER: Companions are referred to by their first names here, even if usually referred to by their surnames or another title in series. Nicknames that are short forms of names are used, nicknames that are not a form of the name are not. A good number of the names here are probably not at all what the creators were thinking - they just made up a name, and it coincidentally resembled a real one. Only one name I could not find any real world equivalent of. If a name is officially a short form of a name I cannot find any evidence of being used, but resembles a more common name, I will use the latter. Companions whose names are English words are on the list, companions whose names are puns on English words are not. Companions are ordered as chronologically as possible, but for non-regular companions that's more difficult, and so they are decided according to my judgement. Basically it's all kind of arbitrary but if you don't like it make your own photoset.

anonymous asked:

Who is your favorite companion?

Okay. Okay. Moffat fans, sit down.

Because you know what? You know how Clara gets sent back in time to spend her life rescuing the Doctor? You know how she even went back and picked out the TARDIS for him?

That doesn’t make her into a hero. That doesn’t make her some new, amazing person. It doesn’t make her fantastic or unique or powerful.

But you know what it does do?

It undermines every single second of every minute that has passed for the last 50 years. Because it wasn’t Jo, or Sarah Jane, or Susan, or Ace, or Ian, or Barbara, or Jamie, or even Roser, Donna, Jack, Wilf, or Martha that keep the Doctor safe. They don’t matter anymore. All the times they have saved the Doctor don’t matter anymore.

Because no matter what they do, no matter how much danger they or the Doctor are in, it’s not up to them to save him,. Their actions mean nothing. Because Clara was born to save the Doctor. And if the Doctor is safe, then they have her to thank. It’s not their bravery, or cunning, or strength that saves the day.

It’s just Clara.

It was Clara who distracted the Daleks so the Doctor and his friends could escape their cell. It was Clara who stopped the Nestene Consciousness from attacking Earth. It was Clara who stopped the Doctor from drowning with the Racnoss. It was Clara who walked the Earth in the Year That Never Was.

And that doesn’t make her a hero. It makes her a thief. A ghost. A shadow. A slave tied helplessly to the orders to save, protect, serve.

She’s not a hero. She doesn’t have a choice. She doesn’t know where she is, and she doesn’t know who she is.

All she knows is that she must save the Doctor.

And she dies, every single time.

She’s not a hero. She’s not an impossible girl.

She’s a mockery of every person he has ever met, good or bad.

Because she’s inevitable. The heroes stand back idly as she passes by, because they know, no matter what they do, they are worse than useless next to her, and the villains drop to their knees in despair, their plans unraveled at the seams by her mere presence.

We should have seen it coming when she wiped the Doctor from the Dalek’s memory.

Because she has erased every single threat against his life. Against his companion’s lives. Everything they have gone though has been without meaning, because their continuation was assured. They never faced any danger. Their tears and sorrow and despair were for naught.

Because she’s Clara Oswin Oswald.

She’s a human shield.

And nothing in the universe can harm him now.

Not while she’s around.

They motivate me to keep updating.

NOTE: Okay, so. This is it. The very last chapter of the A Place For Us To Dream saga. Did you guys know it’s been a year sine that concept was first conceived? Probably not, but yeah. It’s been a whole year since this idea was first planted in my head. And now here we are.

Thank you, as always, to everyone who has taken the time to review/reblog my story and help spread it around. And a special thank you to @badwolfrun, easily the most eager reviewer in existence <3 You’re the best, MK, seriously. You’re the one whose kept this alive for so long, honestly. Love you :)

And for those of you have been reading and not reviewing – this is the last multi-chapter story I’ll ever publish. I know you’re anxious, and I know you don’t know what to say, but please, if you enjoyed this series at all, just try? I don’t require a multi-page thesis for a review or anything. If you can come up with just five words, it’ll make my day. I have anon on if you don’t want your name attached to it – anonymous reviews mean just as much to me as reviews with names attached. I don’t care. But it would mean a lot to me if you could try. Please?

And now, on with the show.

A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME: CHAPTER LIST

Rose’s eyes went wide as she watched the Doctor’s face morph through a myriad of emotions — and felt the corresponding emotions in her head.

Wilf was oblivious. “Well, I mean, that’s good, isn’t it? I mean, that’s your people.”

No. No, it wasn’t good. That much was obvious. Doctor, what

No answer. He grabbed Wilf’s revolver, taking off. Rose hurried after him, with Wilf right on her tail.

They ran onto the flight deck, where a signal was coming through in a very familiar rhythm. Rose tapped along to it without thinking.

“What’s that?” Addams asked, confused.

“Coming from Earth,” Rossiter reported. “It’s on every single wave length.”

Doctor, talk to me? Rose begged. What’s going on?

The Doctor flew into a frenzy, running around the flight deck. They can’t be allowed to come back. They can’t.

Yeah, I’m gathering that.

10 reasons why Clara needs to come back at least once

I was just reading some user comments on Den of Geek, where there is plenty of Moffat and Clara Oswald hate to go around, and ignoring those who just have something against the two for whatever reason, I read a few legitimate comments about why they feel Clara should never appear again on Doctor Who. I thought I’d respond with a list of reasons why she should appear one more time.

Note I said one more time, not multiple episodes, just once (notwithstanding a cameo at regeneration time a la Amy). I remember how upset people were when Martha Jones came along and was completely overshadowed by the memory of Rose in Series 3. And in Series 4 Donna only got about 3 episodes on her own; the rest of the time she was competing against Martha, Rose, Jack, Sarah Jane, Mickey, Jackie - even River Song. So it would be unfair to Pearl Mackie and Matt Lucas for their spotlight to be completely taken by Jenna Coleman. But we still need one. After the jump: my reasons why.

A PLACE FOR US TO DREAM: SEASON THREE || SEASON FOUR

Rose was doing well.

Really well. Honestly the Doctor was surprised by how well she was doing sometimes. It was natural for him to wonder how much of it was her hiding her feelings from him – she had obviously become good at that. But it worried him. How much was she bottling up?

Rose, for her part, thought she was holding it together fairly well all things considered. She was holding it together, at least, which was probably more than the Doctor had expected. Donna was still with her family, leaving her and the Doctor alone on the TARDIS. She’d be lying if she said she wasn’t looking forward to her friend’s return. She needed a buffer.

They were eating supper now, making small talk. Rose was telling the Doctor about Martha – skillfully avoiding any mention of the Master, she couldn’t stand the thought of having that conversation quite yet – but her sentences were punctuated with small yawns. It had been a long few days and she was exhausted.

But she didn’t want to go to sleep yet.

A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME: CHAPTER LIST

“Ha!”

Rose and the Doctor laughed as they burst through the door, narrowly avoiding being hit by an arrow. Rose was giggling too hard to be of any use, so the Doctor went to send them back into orbit on his own.

“So what do I call your other wife?” She teased. “Think she’d mind if I just called her Lizzie?”

The Doctor laughed, going back to her and pressing a kiss to her lips. “I’m filing for divorce. Only need one wife thank you very much.”

“But this explains so much. I met Queen Elizabeth, ya know. With Martha, we met Shakespeare and there were witches…well, it’s a long story. But we met her and she called me the Doctor’s floozy.”

“You met Shakespeare?” Of course that would be the part he latched onto. “And witches? There’s no such thing as—”

“Okay they weren’t quite witches—”

Come

They both froze as the word echoed in their minds. “Did you…?”

The Doctor nodded, lips pursed. He had heard too. Good. Rose thought she was going crazy.

“Should we?”

“Probably.”

The honeymoon was over, then. Well it had been a good five years.

A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME: CHAPTER LIST

Donna yawned as she made her way into the kitchen. She was a bit surprised to see the Doctor there, already making breakfast. It was taking time to get used to having a third person around — and a bloke no less.

At least this time she had remembered to actually get dressed instead of wearing her horribly thin nightgown that didn’t cover a damn thing. Thank god Rose had been there to cover up that bit of awkwardness.

The blonde was absent at that particular moment, however. “Rose still sleeping?” Donna asked as she went to make her tea.

“Nah, just in the shower. She’ll be out in a few.”

Donna nodded, making her tea in silence. She took a sip before venturing, “She really loves you, you know.”

“I’d gathered,” the Doctor said neutrally without looking up from the pancakes. Another sip of tea before Donna continued.

“I don’t remember much from that uh…that universe. You know the one you found me in. But I know she was dead.” The Doctor just nodded, a bit stiffly. “I think it was because she’d given up. Because she’d lost you and her family and she didn’t see a point anymore.”

“She died because you weren’t there to save her.”

A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME: CHAPTER LIST

Donna was rather impatient. Three weeks. It had been three weeks since Rose and the Doctor had left, and despite the firm promises that she was still more than welcome to travel on the TARDIS, she really was worried they wouldn’t come back.

Donna was standing outside with her grandfather, bouncing impatiently. “They’ll be back, sweetheart,” Wilf assured her, putting a hand on her shoulder to try and still her. “They wouldn’t just leave you.”

“Yeah, yeah…”

She was also rather worried about Rose, if she was honest with herself. The last time they’d seen each other the blonde had been nearly paper-white and clearly in pain – no doubt a result of everything the TARDIS had done in her head. Donna hoped she’d actually taken a chance to recover – she knew how Rose just loved to run straight from one thing to the next. Hopefully the Doctor made her take a break.

Then again it didn’t take a genius to figure out where Rose had gotten that habit from.
