By Chance Part 1 - Drake x MC (A Royal Romance Fanfic)
[A little Note: I kept thinking what ifs since the chapter update last week and have decided to indulge in an idea I had from If Things Were Differentanother fanfic I wrote about Drake and MC meeting differently, and meeting first.]
[Summary: A twist of fate has collided MC and Drake right into each other. Meeting for the first time under far different circumstances, MC doesn’t know why Drake feels so familiar, as if her soul has known him from a different life.]
Moving to New York begun as many dreams did for Riley. Exciting, exuberant. One filled with hope, and a longing for something more. A chance to be something more. Her sense of adventure brought her; because she wanted to find here where she could not find anywhere else.
The Big Apple in all it’s intimidating glory was supposed to make her better, to give life meaning and fill the empty void she had always suffered in the safety of her hometown. However, it didn’t take long for Riley to realize that wistful thinking could only push her so far. Things did not happen by chance, people had to make them happen.
A/N: Everything That is bolded and in Italics are Dick’s Thoughts. Everything in Italics are Lydia’s. Like normal.. Prepare for fluff.
It was date night for you and Dick. The two of you are walking along the beach at night. You made a home made meal for the picnic Dick asked you to make. He had a blanket and tiki torches ready on the beach waiting for you. You put the food down and the two of you start eating. Suddenly Dick’s thoughts invade your thoughts.
She be my queen,Since we were sixteen,We want the same things,.We dream the same dreams.
You raise your eyebrow at Dick and give him a smile. He smiles back at you. Sadly your evening was disrupted by Ra’s and Assassins attacking you. You look at Dick and give him a smirk. You are both in civilian clothes so the fighting is going to be constricted. You’re both in blue jeans and nice t-shirts. This should be fun.
i had written the dongho mafia au and saved it about 1/3 of the way through as a draft. then later today (like just now) i finished it and went to post it but for some reason tumblr glitched and didn’t post it? and so i copied the text to my clipboard, went back to the post, and instead of pressing “ctrl+v” to paste the finished work, i pressed “ctrl+c” and copied the unfinished work
i hate computers why am i so bad at them oh my fucking god the frustration is at the max rn
“Look at these lockers. They all look alike, right? Not this one. This one is special. It belonged to a girl who killed herself. You see all these ‘don’t kill yourself’ posters up on the wall? They weren’t up before. They put them up because she killed herself.”
Writing books often exhort you to “write a shitty first draft,” but I always resisted this advice. After all,
I was already writing shitty drafts, even when I tried to write good ones. Why go out of my way to make them shittier?
A shitty first draft just kicks the can down the road, doesn’t it? Sooner or later, I’d have to write a good draft—why put it off?
If I wrote without judging what I wrote, how would I make any creative choices at all?
That first draft inevitably obscured my original vision, so I wanted it to be at least slightly good.
Writing something shitty meant I was shitty.
So for years, I kept writing careful, cramped, painstaking first drafts—when I managed to write at all. At last, writing became so joyless, so draining, so agonizing for me that I got desperate: I either needed to quit writing altogether or give the shitty-first-draft thing a try.
Turns out everything I believed about drafting was wrong.
For the last six months, I’ve written all my first drafts in full-on don’t-give-a-fuck mode. Here’s what I’ve learned so far:
“Shitty first draft” is a misnomer
A rough draft isn’t just a shitty story, any more than a painter’s preparatory sketch is just a shitty painting. Like a sketch, a draft is its own kind of thing: not a lesser version of the finished story, but a guide for making the finished story.
Once I started thinking of my rough drafts as preparatory sketches, I stopped fretting over how “bad” they were. Is a sketch “bad”? And actually, a rough draft can be beautiful the same way a sketch is beautiful: it has its own messy energy.
Don’t try to do everything at once
People who make complex things need to solve one kind of problem before they can solve others. A painter might need to work out where the big shapes go before they can paint the details. A writer might need to decide what two people are saying to each other before they can describe the light in the room or what those people are doing with their hands.
I’d always embraced this principle up to a point. In the early stages, I’d speculate and daydream and make messy notes. But that freedom would end as soon as I started drafting. When you write a scene, I thought, you have to start with the first word and write the rest in order. Then it dawned on me: nobody would ever see this! I could write the dialogue first and the action later; or the action first and the dialogue later; or some dialogue and action first and then interior monologue later; or I could write the whole thing like I was explaining the plot to my friend over the phone. The draft was just one very long, very detailed note to myself. Not a story, but a preparatory sketch for a story. Why not do it in whatever weird order made sense to me?
Get all your thoughts onto the page
Here’s how I used to write: I’d sit there staring at the screen and I’d think of something—then judge it, reject it, and reach for something else, which I’d most likely reject as well—all without ever fully knowing what those things were. And once you start rejecting thoughts, it’s hard to stop. If you don’t write down the first one, or the second, or the third, eventually your thought-generating mechanism jams up. You become convinced you have no thoughts at all.
When I compare my old drafts with my new ones, the old ones look coherent enough. They’re presentable as stories. But they suck as drafts, because I can’t see myself thinking in them. I have no idea what I wanted that story to be. These drafts are opaque and airless, inscrutable even to me, because a good 90% of what I was thinking while I wrote them never made it onto the page.
These days, most of my thoughts go onto the page, in one form or another. I don’t waste time figuring out how to say something, I just ask, “what are you trying to say here?” and write that down. Because this isn’t a story, it’s a plan for a story, so I just need the words to be clear, not beautiful. The drafts I write now are full of placeholders and weird meta notes, but when I read them, I can see where my mind is going. I can see what I’m trying to do. Consequently, I no longer feel like my drafts obscure my original vision. In fact, their whole purpose is to describe that vision.
Drafts are memos to future-you
To draft effectively, you need a personal drafting style or “language” to communicate with your future self (who is, of course, the author of your second draft). This language needs to record your ideas quickly so it can keep up with the pace of your imagination, but it needs to do so in a form that will make sense to you later. That’s why everyone’s drafts look different: your drafting style has to fit the way your mind works.
I’m still working mine out. Honestly, it might take a while. But recently, I started writing in fragments. That’s just how my mind works: I get pieces of sentences before I understand how to fit them together. Wrestling with syntax was slowing me down, so now I just generate the pieces and save their logical relationships for later.Drafting effectively means learning these things about yourself. And to do that, you can’t get all judgmental. You can’t fret over how you should be writing, you just gotta get it done.
Messy drafts are easier to revise
I find that drafting quickly and messily keeps the story from prematurely “hardening” into a mute, opaque object I’m afraid to change. I no longer do that thing, for instance, where I endlessly polish the first few paragraphs of a draft without moving on. Because how do you polish a bunch of fragments taped together with dashes? A draft that looks patently “unfinished” stays malleable, makes me want to dig my hands in and move stuff around.
You already have ideas
Sitting down to write a story, I used to feel this awful responsibility to create something good. Now I treat drafting simply as documenting ideas I already have—not as creation at all, but as observation and description. I don’t wait around for good words or good ideas. I just skim off whatever’s floating on the surface and write it down. It’s that which allows other, potentially better ideas to surface.
As a younger writer, my misery and frustration perpetuated themselves: suppressing so many thoughts made my writing cramped and inhibited, which convinced me I had noideas, which made me even more afraid to write lest I discover how empty inside I really was. That was my fear, I guess: if I looked squarely at my innocent, unvetted, unvarnished ideas, I’d see how bad they truly were, and then I’d have to—what, pack up and go home? Never write again? I don’t know. But when I stopped rejecting ideas and started dumping them onto the page, the worst didn’t happen. In fact, it was a huge relief.
As a YOI fandom grandparent, I felt it was my duty to write out all the fandom explosions for the newer fans who weren’t there to witness the big bang and gradual week-by-week creation of this universe. All the arguments, people blowing things out of proportion, blaming characters, death theories, awesome fans clearing up miscommunications, YOI breaking the internet…
This isn’t a post to call out specific people on their arguments and theories - I’ll stay respectfully away from restarting flames and picking fights, thankyouverymuch. Rather, this is an overview of the topics and conflicting views that swept across hundreds and thousands of people and prompted strong reactions. I’m doing this now, because I know that 6 months later, 1 year later, 3 years later, etc. there will be new fans who will have many of the same exact arguments.
We’ve been there and done that.
I see fans now who say things without knowing where the spelling/quote comes from, or who don’t realize how much has changed, or don’t know why there are certain perceptions of characters. So here’s a little bit of passing down history.
I also don’t want to forget the crazy ride this was. Laugh with me at the silly theories; smile with me at how deeply YOI has impacted our lives.
For those of us old-timers, let’s take a trip down memory lane. Remember when…
—————- (Large arguments will be italicized or bold. Special thanks to @sachiro for reminding me of a bunch of stuff I missed, and looking over the draft in its various stages of being written and edited.)
Idea that there would be a love triangle (Yuri P.–Yuri K.–Victor)
Some fans started spelling Yuri Katsuki with two “u” in order to tell them apart.
Victuri ship name created for Victor x Yuri K. (in a comment to the PV)
“lol ‘Yuri’ on Ice? Where are all the lesbians?”
“When it said Yuri on Ice, I thought we would get girls. Y’know what I mean?”
“Yuri on Ice? More like Yaoi on Ice! amiright?”
J.J. misspelling (English spelling “Jean Jack” instead of French Canadian “Jean-Jacques”)
you can see the remnants of this in the audience banners during the episodes, but it was corrected to “Jean-Jacques” on the official website and the in-show text
Phichit x Seung-gil ship created (there was more art for this than for Victor x Yuuri)
Victor vs. Viktor spelling arguments
Although “Victor” is the official spelling and seen in-show, people argued that the creators are wrong and that we fans know better than them about Russian culture - thus the “Viktor” spelling was born.
People argued back that spelling is subjective and you can spell a name multiple ways and still be correct - thus transliterating his Russian name into English as “Victor” would be just as acceptable.
The YOI wiki held fast for a time on using official spellings and information from the official website, but the transition of power led to a new team that started using agreed-upon info rather than solely using official info. “Viktor” replaced “Victor” on the website.
this change from “Victor” to “Viktor” on the wiki happened around episode 2~3, but the arguments were in the page comments since episode 1 – with moderators explaining their reasoning with sticking to official sources.
Victor is a flirtatious over-the-top character who will seduce Yuuri
Victor is the overwhelming seme and Yuuri is the shy whimpering uke.
You see a sentence
written in cyrillic. Some of the letters are familiar. You see the
meaning shimmering underneath the surface. You almost grasp it, but it slips away. The letters on the page mock you silently.
You know this Czech word. You’ve already learnt it in Polish. It is not the same word. It is a grave insult. Your slavic friends are shocked and embarassed for you when they hear you speak it.
There is a sentence in
Croatian. There is a sentence in Serbian. There is a sentence in
Bosnian. They are all the same sentence.
You have to write about your day in Slovak. You spend the night polishing the draft. You fail your assigment. It’s written in Czech. You don’t know Czech.
P is not what it seems. You have to remember that.
The Croatian sentence
does not mean what the Bosnian sentence means. They both mean the same in Serbian.
That word has a diminutive. The diminutive has its own diminutive. The diminutive of the diminutive also has a diminutive. Nobody knows what the final diminutive of a word is. Some say the knowledge had been lost in centuries past and matrioshkas are the echo, the tangible warning left for us to remember. No living creature should hold the means of diminishing something into nonexistence. Others say you may still find some of them in old soviet textbooks, if you dare to look in abandoned schools of Chernobyl.
Someone is speaking to you. Is that a he or a she? You aren’t sure. It’s an abstract concept. Why does it have gender.
You see a word in a
dictionary. It has seventeen letters and only one vowel. You close the dictionary very carefully not
looking at the phonetic transcription. The shape of it haunts you in
your sleep. You wake
up face damp with tears, a bitter taste on your tongue. The clock blinks 3:03AM. You do not dare look up that word again.
This word means the
same thing in the five slavic languages you’re familiar with. You use
it in the sixth one. That word does not exist in this language. It never
did. There is now a word-shaped void in the fabric of this language.
The natives look at you uneasily. There is a new quality to the silence and your palms start to sweat.
H is not H. H is not H. H is not H. H is not H.
One day you flip through your dictionary. A page is missing. What was the word? You can’t remember. There is pressure building at the back of your head. The clock blinks 3:03AM.
You write my name
is in cyrillic. There are shadows dancing on the walls. They grow
longer with each letter you write down. It is not cyrillic you’re
using. You keep writing my name is. The shadows now bleed from
the tip of your pen. It’s irrelevant. You need to remember the right
N is not N is not N is
not N is not N is not N is not N is not N is not N is not N is not N
is not… If only you could remember the letters. The letters are important. What was it, that wasn’t N?
There are nine different prefixes
you can add to a verb to change its meaning. There are fifty three different suffixes you have to add to a verb to make it
work. In the end the only thing left of the original is a vague shape
of one of its middle consonants.
You can feel the anguish radiating from the verb’s mutialted form. A desperate sob escapes through your clenched teeth.
You’re so, so sorry, you didn’t meant to. You didn’t. It doesn’t matter.
You now read a text in
Russian. You’ve never learnt Russian. Why are you reading that text? The words burn your eyes,
the meaning searing your mind.
There’s a shot of vodka in front of
you. You don’t drink alcohol. You don’t care. All existence is
meaningless, your soul’s in eternal pain. A broken matrioshka lays at your feet. There is no salvation, she says boring into your eyes. You open your mouth to answer, but there is only a burst of harsh rustle. It dies in whispering echoes a moment later. Your glass is empty again.
OKAY so let’s be clear here… Bellamy’s entire arc this season has been about finding his own self-worth. He’s been trying to figure out why he deserves to live after all he’s done. He didn’t want to be inside. You can’t save someone who doesn’t want to be saved, he said. But with that scene, he decides he’s going to live because Clarke Griffin “died” for him. He meant that much to her. He owes his life to her so he will live for her. Bellamy Blake finally found his self worth because he was loved.
i was trying 2 uncover anything about cherry bomb but kept hitting a dead end??? like rip it was impossible to create a theory ,,, on a pair of cherries ,,,,, & a bomb ,,,,,, UNTIL.
i had to think bigger. u all know exo right? Supposedly they’re aliens with superpowers that come from another planet, ‘Exoplanet’.
Could it be? That after following the huge™ success of exo, SM wanted to further continue this legacy?
i !!! tried to find ANYthing that could link nct + planets. ? it was hard bc we were all SO sure that nct’s concept was all abt dreams & connection, not planets. after HOURS of going through old nct videos, teaser images & anything ‘out of place’, …. BHITCJDSG I FOUND THIS
This is a screenshot from The Origin. the 1st teaser video to EVER be released under the name NCT.
dont u find it strange? look at the colour of that giant planet/moon. it’s not red but its not grey, like u’d expect from normal moon colours. instead, its right in the middle, a light pink colour.
!! !!! !!!!! BHITCHSGKJ i searched it up on google ?? & SURPRISE SURPRISE
AND THEN I CLICKED ON MULTIPLE ARTICLES AND !!!!!!!!
“If we could travel to this giant planet, we would see a world still glowing from the heat of its formation with a color reminiscent of a dark cherry blossom, a dull magenta,”
Michael McElwain (NASA Discovery Team)
‘cherry blossom planet’ also known as exoplanet GJ 504B is supposedly the youngest & smallest planet discovered around a star that resembles a sun (similar to our solar system.)
The existence of GJ 504B was discovered in 2013.
In the same year, SMROOKIES was also introduced to the public in 2013.
also look @ the name of the exoplanet & see the similarities below
at first , everyone was a little confused w/ the way SM named their rookies (even me) but ?? ?? now its kinda clear ??
i was also !! confused when cherry bomb dropped like it was a bop ? but i didnt kno what i was dancing 2 lmalkfhsdkgh da song made no sense to me & i didn’t kno what the message was behind it.
however one thing i DID kno was that there was a lot of planes and helicopters shown. even the some of the choreography imitated a plane.
the helicopter dropping all the cherry bombs actually had “NCT” labelled on it.
it seems like planes have been hidden from us since the debut of NCT-U.
look at that poster behind that man. There is an image of a yellow paper plane. there’s also a white toy plane hanging above the poster.
the date “1893″ was framed … why??
during 1893 April 16th, a full solar eclipse took place !! since it was a total eclipse, it covered the earth in total darkness.
do you guys know what a solar saros is?
A Saros is known to be a period of approximately 224 lunar months that can be used to predict eclipses of the sun and moon.
There are many different Saros cycles numbered from cycle 1 all the way to cycle 180 and still counting.
Which Saros cycle did the eclipse of April 1893 belong to?
Saros cycle 127.
?????? and obviously the next unit to debut was ???? NCT 127.
one more creepy ass thing.turns outthat if u look at the NCT “Switch” M/V
behind doyoung’s beautiful™ back, is the date April 16 1961.
it was a historical day because at April 16th 1961, Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first man to enter space.
?? LSITEN TO ME . we have two important dates here.
April 16th (1983) - total solar eclipse
April 12th (1961) - first man in space
both of these months are in April.
16 - 12 = 4
4th April was the debut date of NCT’s 1st unit, NCT-U.
….. ?? ??
o k … anws back to the planes …..
if u also look closely in the “Limitless” M/V , a plain grey helicopter appears for LITERALLY ONE tiny second.
this is a two second ending shot of the Limitless M/V. i paused every frame and played it in slow motion 2 figure out what the hell it was. don’t u think it looks VERY similar to a window of a plane/helicopter? if u look outside, the sun is rising above the horizon.
i feel like nct 127 are boarded inside.
in Cherry Bomb, taeyong raps
“No fireman this is fireworks, cherries in the sky high.”
in this single sentence i think taeyong just mentioned every nct 127 era so far.
“this is fireworks”
“cherries in the sky high”
could it be that nct 127 are being “reborn”? transitioning into a new image? compared to limitless, Cherry Bomb is much brighter and the u kno !!!!!!!!! wow look at us we’re gonna explode and show u all what we’re made of !!! prepare ya asses cos we comin !!!!!!
yes i honestly think that nct 127 got on that plain grey helicopter & … …. travelled somewhere new …. to another fuckgin WORLD ?? cos
it LITERALLY just looks like the limitless helicopter got an upgrade. i swear its the same one ? ??
sjsjfjdshkdjgh *that one meme of taeyong lying on the floor*
,,,,, enough abt planes ,,,,,,
,,,, & helicopters ,,,,,,,
SO IT SEEMS THAT there’s actually a lot !!! of connections with smrookies/nct + moons, planets etc.
NOT 2 MENTION nct 127′s best song album track “Sun & Moon”
“You and I
You and I
You and I
The two of us just like one
Every night in my dreams
We are connected by you
We look to the same sky
Oh when my moon rises
Your sun rises
Under the same sky”
u know what i think?
this song is a message from nct 127 (planet GJ 504B) to the other ‘undiscovered’ planets/moons. aka the other nct units yet to debut & the hidden members waiting to stand on stage so desperately. they’ve all trained together but due to this unit concept, they rly can’t stand as one one stage just yet.
this message is especially key in Ten’s “Dream In a Dream” M/V.
look at the primary colours that paint the whole scene.
lucas is surrounded by dark blue & ten has dark pink colours. they’re obviously from different worlds.
the lyrcis in “Sun & Moon”
“We have the same time,
But we’re in different places
This is a twisted fate.”
clearly u can see ?? ten & lucas are separated from each other since they belong in different planets or put to be in different ‘units’.
It then shows imagery of space. Then a scene of ten walking past the shadow of lucas. it indicates that no matter how close they are, fate will always separate them. ? its sad i kno. but they’re truly from different worlds.
Also i need 2 mention that it was actually confirmed that only 1 of 5-6 exoplanets has been directly discovered. we all kno that nct has this “limitless” unit concept. but i do feel like there will at least be about 6-8 major nct units overall ??? does each unit belong to an “exoplanet”? a different moon?
was nct 127 & this “cherry bomb” concept planned all the way back 2 when smrookies were first introduced ??? are the “undiscovered exoplanets” and “hidden moons” future units that have yet to debut?
so this is why our fandom is named “nctzen” like ,,, are we citizens of all these planets ?? how many more are there. … if its truly limitless ,, are we a galaxy ??
u can read mylimitless theory & see that ?? wtf lmao it connects to this theory too ??? ?? dreams ? space ? time ?
jsjslgkhsljfhg bhitc im dying its nearly 12am & im sweaty & half dead W HAT IS THE TRUTH D AMN IT
