After seeing the last song on your playlist, all I can think of is Jack standing victorious over an impromptu Nerf battle as she says "all my friends are dead", and there's a slight pause before Geoff goes "I'm not dead yet" and Jack savagely shoots him in the head

There are a few things you can always rely on Christophe for: spare condoms, spa recommendations, and a sixth sense about great food. He’s epicurean in his pursuit of all things: he can take you for perfect hot pot outside the third ring road in Beijing, or get you the most wonderful spritzer atop Piazza Venetia in Rome. Need a table in Paris? He knows a city secret or four, and the guy to get you in.

He’s been collecting recipes ever since he first hit the travel circuit. What started as curiosity is now a full blown obsession; Christophe used his Olympics money doing a full remodel of his kitchen.

He’s probably been a celebrity judge on a cooking show. He *makes* the cat’s food. She eats like the Queen she is. And this is all glorious and wonderful and fine, except for years something was missing: lots of travel, and an empty apartment at the end of a long day. Dates that never quite understood what he meant about the right wine pairing for dinner or why it matters to him that a restaurant uses a seasonal menu.

He’s been fucking the choreographer on and off for two months when it happens, just a simple text suggesting a night in.

TXT: I’ll cook for you
TXT: …. you like to cook?
TXT: did you think last week’s reservation was a happy accident?
TXT: I’m on my way.

“I don’t like your knives,” he whines, mincing garlic.

“Next time, bring yours.”

A whole bunch that I haven’t been able to do because of the internet situations back at the reserve. Apologies if I miss your reply, but since xkit still isn’t working on that end there’s not much I can do. I’ve left the Starrs replies and a few others, but I am truly thankful for all the time you take to leave comments, letting me know you read and reacting to the shitstorm that faye created haha.

In other news, today I sat down in my old flat at uni with the glorious internet and said to myself, “I’m going to sort everything I need to today. API, ESTAs, accommodation for America, my car tax etc etc.” And I was going to. I had good intentions. Except for most of the things I need to do, I need information I don’t yet have (why can’t American friends be up at this time of day, how selfish!) or the banks aren’t open or I need a special form like WHY. I’M FINALLY IN CIVILISATION TO DO ALL THIS SHIT AND I STILL CAN’T.

Anyway I saw wonder woman yesterday. I was super surprised by how good it was! I wasn’t going to go originally because it was a DC film and apparently they don’t understand how to write or edit their films, but damn. This was good.

The time I ruined my high school teachers career and got her fired in the greatest way possible.

This story is widely known amongst my family and is constantly brought up and joked upon in my group of friends even years later. A buddy of mine suggested that this is the perfect place to make it public so let’s get into this shit storm.

Backstory: I was a senior in high school at the time and i had never been the brightest student. I was a solid C student and i had never received a detention or had any kind of bad student record. This is important because to this day, i still have no idea why the teacher treated me this way. The teacher, who we will name Mrs. Frank, had been a teacher there for more then a decade and was widely known for being a petty heartless bitch who the administrators saw as the golden child.

Mrs. Frank taught algebra, which is my worst subject, so naturally i had issues understanding the lessons and would ask questions frequently. To some these questions are easily answered but to me it was rocket science.

Usually when someone asks a dumb question, no one should address it however in Mrs. Franks case she would belittle me in front of everyone by saying things such as “And here comes the slow boy again” , “wow surprise surprise you don’t understand it again” “Really? We have to go extra slow for you today don’t we” etc…etc.

I tried going to the administration about it before but again she was considered the golden child. They would send someone in to examine her during class, she would act respectful and normal for one day, and go back to being a bitch the next.

This goes on for about half the year until i had enough. I went to the local radioshack, bought a recorder, and secretly recorded every insult she would throw at me. I would sometimes instigate to make up for the lost time.

Go ahead feed the fire.

Fast forward to the end of the year and im sitting in Mrs. Franks class when i ask a question. Her response, and i quote (because it’s burned into my brain) was-

“I’ve been teaching here for over 10 years and that was the single dumbest question I’ve ever heard come from anyone’s mouth.”

She continued the lesson without answering. I calmly stood up, packed up my stuff, and headed to the nurses office to dismiss myself from school. (We were allowed to dismiss ourself if we were 18.)

I went home, compiled all of the brutal tapes into one glorious masterpiece of insults, and headed back the next day to show the administrators. I sat down with the principal and we listened to a couple of the insults before he stopped me. He wanted more witnesses present as well as Mrs. Franks. He told me we would meet the next day where i could show him and the rest of the administrators the full tape.

I walk into school the next morning being the most nervous iv ever been for anything. I was called down to the office where i met with some board directors, the local school police officer, the principal, the vice principal and Mrs. Franks.

What follows was some of the greatest minutes of my life.

I watched as the administrators went from fed up with being in another useless meeting, to furious and speechless with some of them keeping their mouths open for the duration of the tape. I also watched Mrs. Frank go from confident and stuck up, to her realizing that she had f*cked up beyond repair.

She was publicly roasting herself in front of the most important people from the district.

The tape ended and without hesitation, the administrators looked around in astonishment and the principal turns to me and says “I think we have heard everything we need to, thank you.” And i was quietly dismissed from the room.

The final time i saw Mrs. Frank was leaving the room. I looked back and we made eye contact through her tear filled eyes as i gave the biggest most evil smile.

I returned to class the next week and Mrs. Frank was no where to be found. The story spread quickly throughout the school and i was seen as a saint. I had successfully gotten her fired and made it almost impossible for Mrs. Frank to return to her teaching career as well as cut off most of her connections she had with other teachers in the school. I had ruined her financially because no school district in the area would hire this walking piece of garbage.

If you’re reading this Mrs. Frank id like to take this moment to tell you to go f*ck yourself.

Omelas

“The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas” is a work of philosophical fiction.

Omelas, a shimmering city of unbelievable happiness and delight. In Omelas, the summer solstice is celebrated with a glorious festival.
Everything about Omelas is so abundantly pleasing that the narrator decides the reader is not yet truly convinced of its existence and so elaborates upon one final element of the city: its one atrocity. The city’s constant state of serenity and splendor requires that a single unfortunate child be kept in perpetual filth, darkness, and misery.
However, a few citizens, young and old, silently walk away from the city, and no one knows where they go.
The story ends with “The place they go towards is a place even less imaginable to most of us than the city of happiness. I cannot describe it at all. It is possible it does not exist. But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas."

He wanted to go home. He wanted it so much that he trembled at the thought. But if the price of that was selling good men to the night, if the price was filling those graves, if the price was not fighting with every trick he knew… Then it was too high.”

Everything about this gif is glorious. George just sassily trotting up and tossing the papers and just marching away. The extra flailing across the front. Jefferson skipping around and flinging more paper. Madison just calmly walking to the right. The two extras just getting d o w n in the back. The guys awkwardly carrying the bench in at the end. The ones rolling around on the floor and catching the papers. And Hamilton being in the midst of it all just looking exasperated. Beautiful.

I am a mess, and I want to be loved by someone as messed up as me. And I know that’s messed up, but I want a love as chaotic as a hurricane that there would be nothing left in the end but glorious mess. And the need to start over again.

I Saw Wonder Woman And I am Happy

How long? How long did we wait for this? For me, it was decades.

Did you know I had my doubts it would get made? And I my misgivings? And my worries? That I was very concerned with the actress they cast? That I was very, very concerned after first director left. And how white that cast looked. * Oh, and how very disappointing both B v S and Suicide Squad were.

But finally the Wonder Woman movie is here. And for me, it was glorious. I hope it is for you too.

Patty Jenkins has delivered one of the best superhero movies ever. Gal Gadot was just the right balance of fish out of water and kick ass.

There were tears from both me and my daughter at the end of our viewing last night. I am going back to see it again tomorrow.

So go. Go see a female superhero on the big screen. Go see a movie where a woman can be heroic and human (even if she not quite). Go get shivers as Wonder Woman makes her debut on the field of war. And go and see what a good DC film looks like.

And let me know what you think.

* I would still trade out Antiope for Phillipus.

“Don’t say that you love me more than I love you. Trust me, you are the glorious sun to me, my everything and I love you with all my heart.”

“Repeat after me; I am worthy, I am worthy, I am worthy…and believe it, ‘cause you are.”

“Darling, perfect is just a word. Perfection is impossible and chasing after it will lead you nowhere. Just do your best and accept that the result is good.”

“When the most broken put themselves back together, they become the most beautiful angels. It’s okay if it’s sloppy or if a crack is still left open, you’re even more ethereal to me.”

“The longest and most difficult roads in life end in the best places. Be patient and keep going.”

“So what if the world is complex and overwhelming? So what if you can’t do it all, can’t be the best? Stop focusing on your image and focus on yourself. You have these years on this earth, enjoy them, don’t overthink it. “

“I’m love with your mind, soul and body.”

“The best thing you can do in life is to love yourself and let your passion help others to love themselves too.”

“I know you may feel alone right now but just remember how big the world is. How many souls will love you for who you are. They’re out there, don’t worry. Just get through, explore and you’ll find them. Just don’t forget to find yourself.”

“Can I kiss where it hurts?”

“Hey, it’s going to be fine. We’ll get through this together, hand in hand, okay?”

“It’s all about the little things. Your favorite tea, good stories, sparkly eyes, beautiful skies, the thrill of adventure, passion, the feeling of home. Enjoy them.”

“You’re not broken. Your mind is just built differently, get to know it, have a little chat with yourself. The most complicated minds tend to be the most beautiful ones, just don’t let it use you, learn to cooperate with it.”

“Hey, beautiful, you okay?”

“You’re amazing, did you know that?”

“I think I’m going blind from your beauty.”

“Everyone’s different. Everyone’s beautiful. You’re the most beautiful human I’ve met, and I’ve met myself!”

“Breathe, darling, breathe.”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t know that triggered you, I’ll never do it again.”

“Here, I’m going to make you some tea and we’ll watch a movie, that sound good?”

“ Magic is real. It’s not spells and cauldrons, no… it’s more subtle. Like, when the air seems electrified, when eyes speak more than words, when you sense something none of your normal senses detect. If you stop for a moment and look beyond, you’ll find it.“

“I know you don’t want to, but in the end, it’ll pay off. Just breathe, keep your head up and you’ll be fine.”

I always have this theory that a lot of the companions have high-maintenance looks that take a while to sort out, and getting ready must be a pain. So I was thinking about some of my DAI favourites and ended up with the “six AM and just got up” headcanons:

  • Cassandra sans-makeup is just as scary gorgeous. But more scary. And the hair is… vertical. She looks glorious. And like she might commit murder. Consciously works to straighten her posture and seem more soldierly.
  • Cullen is insanely curly and eye-bags ahoy, because he barely gets any sleep anyway. Even more pale than usual. Very, very Fereldan in terms of accent, and grumpy if it’s been a bad night. Sheepish if it hasn’t.
  • Dorian can join the vertical-hair camp (though parts of it are also flattened) and is also stubbly plus pissed off because he hasn’t had chance to wax his moustache yet. Probably making his way to the nearest bath ASAP. Slightly hairier than anyone expected.
  • Josephine… glorious cascades of wavy hair. And maybe a lot of frizz. And trying not to tired-blink because it’ll ruin her diplomat-paying-attention image. And I also agree with the frilly-underwear headcanons I’ve seen. She’d so have bloomers.
  • Sera looks like… Sera. Less eyeliner, I suppose.
  • Bull occasionally forgets - or pretends to forget - he has a pillow stuck on his horns. Yawns a lot. Eyepatch slightly askew. Insists he sleeps in the nude but people have mainly just seen an even more awful pair of “circus pants” that must be his pyjamas.
  • Krem tends to end up with his undercut flopping annoyingly into his eyes, and when he’s half asleep he goes all mumbly and even more Tevene. Probably wears something sleeveless by way of pyjamas to show off the arms.
  • Leliana… no-one actually knows. No-one’s ever caught her less than perfectly preened. Everyone’s too terrified not to knock.
  • Blackwall’s bedhead is legendary. Even the beard has bedhead.
  • Vivienne is either never seen unprepared, or perfectly businesslike and will probably politely murder you if you draw attention to the slightly-more-scalp-stubble and the lack of makeup. She’d probably just brazen it out, so maybe the latter.
  • Cole doesn’t sleep. It’s rather unnerving.
  • Solas is just slightly sharper than usual. Other than that, he has a worrying amount of composure. But then, he’s pretty used to dropping in and out of the Fade.

******

There’s a figure skating exhibition in Montréal which Bob is guest announcing at, so the whole Zimmermann fam goes to watch.

Jack is still in his in between phase of adolescence, not quite grown into his limbs, face still rounded with the last bits of stubborn childhood fat. His whole body still a little too large, and his confidence bowed under the extra weight and his blooming anxiety about his future, his sexuality, and life as the child of two incredibly successful, beautiful people.

But underneath that, is a clever, witty, ridiculous flirty man waiting for an opportunity to present itself.

Enter one Eric R. Bittle. Just over five and a half feet of lean muscle and able to move it all with a speed and grace that leaves Jack breathless. Watching Eric skate, watching him bring the story of his music to life in sweeping arcs and gravity defying jumps and spins, is a revelation. Jack loses himself in the sparkling whirlwind of movement and glowing blond hair that is Eric Bittle.

When his routine ends, in a glorious final spin that leaves Eric with outstretched arms and his head thrown back, a triumphant smile on his face, Jack is mesmerized by the line of Eric’s neck and the way he can see the heavy breaths Eric is taking. Jack can feel his heart beating in time with the rise and fall of Eric’s chest. When Eric looks up, he looks radiant, and he looks right at Jack. The full impact of his smile hits Jack right in the gut.

He must make a sound, because Alicia looks at him with a knowing gleam in her eyes and asks “Ça'va, cher?” Jack can only nod, eyes glued to Eric’s figure as he makes his way off the ice. He misses Alicia’s grin, but takes comfort in the arm she wraps around his shoulder, difficult with the way he’s almost taller than her now, even at 16, but still nice.

He’s not entirely sure how, but he ends up in the hallway outside the locker room with his parents. Bob is talking with the skaters as they come out, Jack mostly a silent presence, making awkward attempts at conversation when addressed and getting slightly irritated at the way everyone looks at him like he’s adorable despite them mostly being not much older than him. (He’d checked Eric’s age at least, and was incredibly pleased that he was the same age.)

Then, Eric is just. There. In front of him. Smiling that same sunshiny smile that is even more spectacular up close. From this close, Jack can see the warm honey and bourbon flecks in Eric’s big brown eyes, and how they radiate kindness. He feels like he’s taking up too much space, feels all the clumsiness in his limbs that only seems to disappear when he’s playing hockey.

When Eric speaks, his accent catches Jack off guard, but in a good way. It makes him feel warm and soft, and he hopes he isn’t blushing.

“Hello Mr and Mrs Zimmermann, it is such an honor to meet you! I’ve followed both of your careers, and y'all are such an inspiration!” Eric’s exuberance makes Jack smile, he feels it stretch across his face and can’t even be embarrassed about it because when Eric looks at him Jack sees it reflected back at him.

“Oh. Hello! You’re Jack, right? The next Zimmermann to watch out for?” He says it with sincerity, and a hint of a chirp, and Jack doesn’t feel any of the pressure he usually does when people talk about his legacy.

He takes just a second too long to reply, and his dad nudges his arm a little to get his attention. He catches a smirk on Bob’s face in his peripheral vision, and a quick wordless exchange between his parents, and has a sudden flash of his dad telling him about how he wooed his mom by speaking to her in French at any given opportunity.

So when Jack responds, a second or two past what’s strictly socially acceptable but not so long it’s awkward, he can only say “Bonjour, Eric,” as he presents his hand, almost sighing when Eric slips his own surprisingly soft hand into Jack’s, shaking it with a firm grip and a smile still on his face. “Vous étiez incroyable.”

He’s vaguely aware that he should be mortified, but Eric’s cheeks turn a delightful pink and it makes something in Jack want to rise to the challenge of keeping the color there.

“Oh my,” Eric laughs, “You can call me Bitty, Jack. Though I must admit my French is terrible, merci beaucoup.” His accent is quite awful, really, but when Jack notices their hands are still together, that they’re just holding hands now, he can only grin wider.

“De rien, Bitty.” Bitty looks down slightly, notices their hands and his eyes widen. He looks up at Jack from under his impressively thick lashes with a look of wonder on his face.

Bitty mutters what sounds like “Oh, lord,” and Jack chuckles under his breath.

Jack couldn’t agree more. So he squeezes Bitty’s hand and says just quietly enough that Bitty has to lean in a little “D’accord.”
