but i've spent too much time on it and i don't care how it looks

Hello! I am absolutely in love with your Designation: Miracle series. They are the best stories I've ever read for KnB. I kind of have this headcanon for them, though, that while we know the Miracles are super protective of their own human partners, they are also protective of *each others* human partners. So I was wondering if you could do something like that maybe please? If you don't want to, that's fine, you're still amazing and I love you :)

Kasamatsu has never spent a great deal of time with the other Miracles, despite the fact that he’s known them all the longest. He understands now that had been entirely Kise’s intent, and he thinks it’s a good sign when Kise suggests they go shopping with Aomine and Momoi. It means that the other boy has finally accepted that Kasamatsu isn’t going anywhere, that he doesn’t need to be so possessive of Kasamatsu’s time, that he doesn’t have to view everyone as a potential threat who might take Kasamatsu’s attention away from him. Kasamatsu definitely approves of all the implications of the progress Kise has made over the years.

He just wishes Aomine wasn’t so damn weird.

‘Weird’ might be the wrong word, he thinks. Unsettling is probably the more accurate description. Kasamatsu has often thought Aomine is like a wild animal on the court—all instinct and agility and fierce power. Aomine is loud on the court—not vocally, but his presence shouts at everyone who watches. He’s someone you pay attention to, whether you want to or not.

Now they’re not on the court, they’re hanging out in a shopping mall plaza. Momoi and Kise are cooing over some magazine and Aomine is just staring. Watching, silently, the people who are around them, watching anyone who approaches, watching Kasamatsu.

It’s like he’s on the alert. Quiet, and stealthy, like a hunter.

And it’s very unsettling.

He gets up to buy a drink, mostly to catch his breath more than anything else. He likes all the Miracles, but they can be intense, even when they’re just out having fun.

When he turns to head back someone bumps into his shoulder and says, “Watch it.”

“Sorry,” Kasamatsu says immediately.

“Oh, you’re sorry?” the guy says, and his two buddies snicker. “If apologies were enough we wouldn’t need the cops.”

Kasamatsu blinks because it’s just so stereotypical it’s absurd. He’s never had much use for overt displays of machismo, and has no desire whatsoever to engage. “I am very sorry,” he says, mildly. “I’ll be more careful next time.”

“Hey, you think—”

Something slams on the table next to them, causing everyone to jump. It’s Aomine, suddenly there, bristling and so obviously ready to fight. “He said he was sorry. You have a problem?”

And Kasamatsu will say this for the guys, they clearly recognize the bigger threat.

Kasamatsu would laugh at how quickly they exit, if he wasn’t so thoroughly confused.

“Are you protecting me?” Kasamatsu exclaims.

Aomine’s scowl is more petulant than threatening. “Yeah, so?”

So you’re my junior, Kasamatsu thinks, so you don’t even go to my school, so I barely know you, so I don’t need protecting and definitely not from you. All of those things seem a bit too harsh to say. He does say, “Why?”

“Do you even understand what would happen to him?” Aomine says, his whole manner shifting and the anger in his voice gives Kasamatsu goosebumps. He is once again reminded of a predator. “If anything happened to you, that would be it for him, you get that, right?”

Sometimes, it still makes him uncomfortable. How much he means to Kise. It scares him sometimes. Not because he doesn’t reciprocate, but because it’s slightly terrifying being that important to anyone. He is, perhaps, a bit wary against being someone’s all. And. Well. He does know. He saw a bit of what Kise would be like, when they went to Iwatobi.

“I do get it,” he says, his voice gruff. “But you don’t have to treat me like glass.”

Aomine narrows his eyes. “I don’t think you do. You have too much power over him. I wish I could have stopped it before it got this far. If you ever hurt him…”

“Wait,” Kasamatsu frowns, “Are you protecting me or threatening me?”

“I can do both,” Aomine says. “You’ve always been Kise’s biggest weakness and his biggest threat.”

Those are, Kasamatsu thinks, both roles he very much does not want to have in Kise’s life and he scowls at the Miracle for saying it. It also distinctly chafes to hear this from Aomine. He pulls himself up straight and raises his chin (not that it makes much of a difference, since Aomine is taller than him) and he refuses to show any kind of submission to a kid two years his junior. “I would never hurt Kise,” he growls, and if Aomine were anyone else Kasamatsu might be holding him by his collar. “And I don’t need to you to keep me in line or protect me.”

Aomine, to his surprise, just smirks and slings an arm around his shoulder in a friendly manner. “Sure, sure, senpai, whatever you say.”

“Hey!” Kise says when they get closer to the table. “No touching Senpai, Aominecchi! Only I get to touch Senpai, those are the rules—ow!”

“Shut up, brat,” Kasamatsu says. The tap against Kise’s head is barely a flick. He thinks Kise’s “ow” is mostly reactive, part for show, just like Kasamatsu’s tapping is a show. (He could never actually hurt Kise.) When he sits down again, he takes Kise’s hand in his under the table, and his skin grows warmer when Kise looks at him in that intensely-focused Kise way.

Even though he’s not looking in their direction, he feels Aomine and Momoi’s gaze, and thinks probably all the Miracles are watching him and watching out for him, and it’s a strange feeling, but not a bad one.

A/N: That is so kind of you to say, thank you, anon-friend! Headcanon 100% accepted!!! I absolutely feel like the Miracles would also be protective of each other’s significant others. (I picked one in particular, and it got longer than intended, but I do think all the Miracles would feel the same way about the other’s significant others). I decided I wanted to focus on Kasamatsu and Aomine, and then also remembered it would work well with a request by @angelsdontflytheysoar who wanted to see someone warn Kasamatsu about hurting Kise. So thank you, friend, anon-friend, hope you enjoyed!! =D

Baby Blues

I’d always wanted children ever since I was a little girl. I loved the many baby dolls I was gifted, gave each and every single one a name and treated them with the utmost care like they were well and truly alive. My mother and even my friends told me I’d make a wonderful mom someday. I delighted at those words and couldn’t wait to become a mom myself so you can imagine how happy I was when I got married and six months later found out I was pregnant.

I was so excited to welcome my baby into the world. Perhaps I was a little too excited because I ended up decorating the entire nursery so quickly after finding out that I was a little sad I had nothing more to do with it and was still so far from my due date. That was alright though, I still spent a lot of time in there, reading the baby books to my child and playing music for him or her.

I know this is a day late, but HAPPY TRANS DAY OF VISIBILITY! To all of the transgender people out there, I see you. You matter. And you are loved.

Everyone had secrets.

Pidge was the first when she held off on the fact that she was actually a girl. (At least, it was a secret to Lance.)

Hunk failed to mention until recently that his actual dream was to be a world-renowned bakery chef but was told it was too unrealistic.

Keith? Well, Keith was still working with the publicity of possibly, most likely, being half-Galra. He was struggling, but his team had his back.

Coran had a son– operative word being ‘had’. When asked what happened, he hastily changed the subject.

Shiro announced at breakfast one morning that he was not originally planned to be a part of the Kerberos Mission and that the decision to put him on was last minute.

Allura revealed one day during training that she had major doubts about the five paladins. She admitted that she had spent many nights during the beginning pondering if she should find a new crew.

And, Lance? Well, Lance was born as Lana, but no one knew. He’d been going as Lance and identifying as a boy since he was three, and he didn’t really see the point in sharing. Everyone already had their adopted views of him; there was no need to change that.

spectrefox  asked:

So I don't think I've been following long enough to see why- but what is your reasoning behind disliking Kal? (I have reasons of my own but just curious).

So I’ve been sitting on this because there’s just so much and I knew there were posts that made the point more efficiently than me. But here’s an abbreviated list with some links to my stuff and to izzyovercoffee and cassiansfuzzyjacket’s stuff.

Please note wrt the below:  there is a fundamental difference between flawed and abusive (Gena says it better here) . Also, the entire narrative is spent propping up Kal and trying to sell us on how awesome he is without acknowledging anything he’s done as wrong . He is Traviss’s “moral compass” (rivaled only by Jusik) in this set up, and that’s fucked up. ( Gena, Izzy, and Krad discuss this even more in depth here)

His entire relationship with Etain is bullshit, misogynistic, and abusive.

Etain is my heart and while she’s a flawed character, the way Kal treats her re: her pregnancy is  not “appropriate consequences or “what she deserved”

I’ve typed this three times now, but I don’t actually want this part to get too long, so here’s more specifically about him basically setting her and/or her baby up in a situation with no medical care where he thought they were unlikely to survive and about her being absolutely terrified of him and him forbidding her even the power of suggestion in the process of naming her child.

  • Also not included in those posts, but upsetting to me as I reread: the part where he tells Etain he’d be okay if Atin knocked Laseema up (who he’s known for two weeks) but that her being a Jedi means this cannot be okay.
  • Notably, while I was pulling this post together, it also came up in the group chat that while Kal is going on about Darman being an unwilling solider while simultaneously ignoring that Etain was also literally fighting as a soldier in the same war with an inexperienced and unloved background and then sending her off to die in a war zone

But if anyone has more questions about her pregnancy, shoot me another ask cause otherwise this is going to turn into 13 pages of MLA formatted, text-embedded essay. I could write a term paper on Etain and Kal, and on her pregnancy specifically.

In True Colors Kal appears to be acting kinder though Etain still admits to distrusting and being terrified of him. Then after Etain gives birth her relationship with Kal would seem, on the surface, to improve dramatically…

..but it’s important to note that Etain has spent this entire time trying to convince herself she can trust and love Kal because a) she is desperate to be loved and b) Kal has arranged everything so that her relationships and everyone else’s must, to some degree, flow through him

and his treatment of her, while less hostile, is still not respectful

  • he repeatedly infantilizes her, dismisses her ability as a soldier, and is surprised when, after others give her the opportunity to be useful and apply her skills, she achieves measurable successes towards shared goals. he repeatedly dismisses her capability, viewing her only in relationship to himself (as a child), or to Darman or her baby
  • doesn’t ever once seek to make amends for his behavior or apologize or even admit that it might have been unjust until a year and a half later when she’s dead… and it becomes a narrative prop rather than something that leads to actual change. also his “regret” is still focused on him, and not her or how he affected her life
  • makes her death all about him and his feelings, to the point where he’s the only one other than Dar whose reaction is explored in depth, and his “regret” is just used as a jumping off point for others to tell him how good a man he is

Kal is abusive in general, and manipulative and ableist towards the Nulls specifically.

He generally doesn’t actually help his sons at all with any of their problems and infantilizes them. He also seeks out vulnerable people and manipulates them into positions where their security and relationships are centered around him. Gena and Izzy do a way better job of explaining this than me so:

Kal is a misogynist

Again, Etain’s pregnancy is plenty proof enough, but we also have:

  • Him twice accusing Etain of promiscuity in a two week period where she was very attached to Darman, once somehow (nonsensically) implying that in the space of one speeder ride she (somehow?) seduced Ordo
  • The fact that Etain telling Kal the baby was a boy was the “worst thing” she could have said because of the special bond between male mandos or w/e the fuck, and the whole naming rule
  • his “Rav Bralor was twice the man most men were, which was quite something for a good-looking woman.”
  • his entire framing of the situation with Illippi who he removed to a planet she didn’t know, surrounded by a culture she didn’t know, got pregnant three times, and then abandoned by herself for long stretches of time before trying to bring her eight year old into mortal danger
  • repeatedly viewing all the women in his life only in their relationship to a) him b) whichever men they’re fucking or he thinks they’re supposed to be fucking
  • his repeated disparaging comments about women who try to look feminine
  • Honestly there’s a lot of small moments that could go here, but I don’t want to do a complete series reread and this post is so long

And again, like… the biggest problem on top of all of this is that it’s never called out. In no small part because Kal gets used as an author mouthpiece, but the narrative does it’s best to paper over how fucked up Kal acts rather than ever condemning him.

I've been distraught over the fact that the companions don't react when you give them your husband's/wife's ring and I need to fill this hole in my soul. Please do a reaction.

Sorry for the long wait on this Nonnie, I hope you Enjoy <3

Since the day that Sole woke up in the cryo pods, they’d held on to their spouse’s wedding ring- they figured that if they needed to gather together a few caps, they could sell the pair, however Sole didn’t really want to sell them, as it was the last thing that they had to remember their dead spouse.

Some nights, Cait watched as Sole twisted their wedding ring around their ring finger, clearly reminiscing on the times they spent before the war with their spouse.

On very few occasions (usually when Sole was sniffing, close to crying), Sole would tell Cait stories of their marriage. Of the first time that they’d walked across the bridge into Sanctuary, whilst pushing Shaun’s stroller, and Nate had leaned over and accidentally fallen into the river;  of their wedding day, and how nervous they both were and how drunk they’d both been at the evening party; of the night that Nora had given birth to Shaun, and Nate had passed out because of the blood and screaming, and the look on both their faces when they both held their newborn son for the first time.

It made Cait’s heart swell when Sole told her stories of their marriage- both for the fact that the stories were usually both cute and the fact that Sole trusted Cait enough to confide their past in her.

However, most nights were usually spent twisting the ring on their finger, or touching the ring that sat on a chain around their neck. Most nights, Cait would leave them to their own thoughts, preferring to find a nice quiet corner of a room to settle herself down in, although this night, Cait chose to stay.

When Sole told Cait their stories, it usually started with Sole being completely silent, before the story began. Tonight was no different.

Cait sat on the floor in front of Sole as they began talking. The story tonight was finding out that Sole and their Spouse were going to be having a baby. They’d both been in complete shock- their wedding had only been a few weeks prior, and they were hoping to have had time to settle down with each other as a married couple before they brought a child into the cruelness that was the world. Sole told Cait that they’d initially thought of different options (including adoption), however Nora had a miscarriage scare, and then they decided that the life they jointly made was far too precious to give away to someone else. They’d been given Codsworth as a joint wedding/baby shower gift from one of their bosses- Sole couldn’t remember which one- and they’d been entirely grateful for the gift.

By this point, the ring that was around Sole’s neck was now in their hand, being rolled between thumb and fingers.

Shaun had decided to come earlier than his due date- Nora was always early to things, and Nate was always late. Nate had been out with friends on a last night of freedom before the baby arrived, and Nora had to get one of her neighbours to drive her to the hospital. He’d arrived just in time to watch their son come into the world, and then passed out straight on the floor.

Tears were gathered in Sole’s eyes as they asked for Cait’s hand, dropping the other ring into the centre of her hand. Sole tenderly told Cait that they could hold onto the ring until the day that they died, but putting it to good use would be so much better. Sole wanted Cait to have the ring, so they could show the world a symbol of their unity and love, and Cait was more than happy to wear it.

It felt a little weird, wearing the ring that once belonged to someone who was now locked in a freezer in a vault, but she couldn’t be happier as it showed their love for one another.

Sole helped everyone that they came across, no matter if they were human, synth, ghoul or even super mutant. Unless, they were shooting at them, then Sole preferred to shoot first and ask questions later.

Curie loved travelling with Sole- especially when Sole was telling stories of pre-war times. Often when they travelled throughout the Commonwealth, Sole would tell Curie stories of Sole travelling in the same location before the bombs dropped.

Sole told Curie of how they went shopping just a week before the bombs dropped in the Super Duper Mart whilst they were in the middle of clearing out the ghouls there; or when they were clearing out Medford Memorial Hospital of the mutants there Sole told her of how Nora had gone there to give birth to Shaun, even though they were due to be giving birth Kendall Hospital; or when Sole and their partner and their parents went to Fallon’s Department Store to buy clothes for when Shaun was born, finding cute little clothes that Shaun would never get to wear as he got older.

Some of the stories that Sole told Curie broke her heart. It wasn’t fair that Sole got their baby taken away and he had grown up to be an old man, the leader of the enemy. Curie would always be there to offer an ear or a shoulder whenever Sole needed one, and because of that they ended up becoming closer that Sole was with their other companions.

They spent considerably more time together that Sole did with anyone else, with Sole preferring the company of the soft spoken synth that they’d come to care deeply for than their more outspoken friends.

Sole began telling Curie more stories, until one day, they ended up in the Lonely Chapel. Sole told Curie that this was where they married- they’d both turned up drunk after drinking the whole day before hand (and continuing well on into the night), and had both practically slurred their wedding vows to one another.  Sole told Curie of the significance of wedding (and engagement) rings, before they reached down for Curie’s hands and dragged her up to the remains of the alter. Reaching into their pocket- the safest place for their spouse’s ring- Sole pulled the ring out and lifted Curie’s left hand, placing the ring on her finger (but not before asking if she would accept the ring from them).

With tears in her eyes, Curie brought the ring up to her eye level to look at. It was a plain and simple silver wedding band with few marks and scratches on it (Sole’s own ring hand more scratches on it). As they left the Chapel, Curie felt as if her left hand was weighed down, however she couldn’t be happier.

The day that Danse met Sole, his eyes had instantly been drawn to their finger, where their wedding ring had sat, and he briefly noticed the matching ring on a string around their neck. It was a tactical error to wear thing’s around your neck in a place such as the Commonwealth- any number of enemies could be able to reach up for the string and pull, which could end up ending Sole’s life (just like what one of the ghouls had done whilst they were fighting alongside him when they first met). However, his eyes hadn’t settled on their hand and neck just because of how dangerous it was- he felt disappointment bubble up in his stomach at the sight that they’d been claimed by someone else.

Sole joined up with the Brotherhood- they had taken a lot of persuading- and it wasn’t long before the Prydwen was in the Commonwealth and Elder Maxson had put Sole and Danse together for different missions, meaning they were travelling together all the time.

They grew closer and began to tell each other more about themselves- Danse told Sole about Cutler and Sole started to tell Danse about their pre-war life and their life with their spouse and son.

It was one night when they holed up in an abandoned factory after clearing it out whilst also waiting out a radstorm that Sole held out their hand to give Sole their spouses ring. Their relationship had changed and they’d grown closer, and Sole had told them that it was the next step for them as a couple.

Sole told Danse about how it would have gone in pre-war times- big dresses, suit and ties, flowers, cake and a party. But they told him that they obviously couldn’t do it in the Commonwealth, so instead they’ll just have to settle for the old warehouse, and a few whispered words to one another.

Danse felt happiness beyond belief- he hadn’t expected to find someone who he could be truly happy with, someone he really wanted to spend the rest of his life with. He wished that he could give them the pre-war wedding, however it would be somewhat impossible (sure, you could find clean suits here and there) to create something as good as what Sole’s first wedding would have been like. He placed the ring on his finger (with some help from Sole as to what finger it went on- wedding rings were uncommon in the Commonwealth), and never took it off.

Deacon was a wary person; he had to be, especially in the Commonwealth, and especially with the Institute breathing down his neck 24/7. So everyone that had known the Railroad’s best agent had been confused when they found out that he trusted Sole almost instantly.

Deacon grew attached to Sole as he watched them emerge from Vault 111- and the attachment only grew as he snuck (it was very bad sneaking, the Vault’s elevator was incredibly loud) down into the vault and found out what had happened down there- the previous times he’d tried he’d been unable to, since you needed to open it from the inside rather than the outside.

When Sole joined up with the Railroad, the pair became inseparable- they spent every waking moment (and moments asleep- there wasn’t too many spare bedroll’s in HQ) together, and everyone noticed.

Together, Sole and Deacon went down to the glowing sea and found Virgil, killed a courser and built the teleportation device into the Institute. They did everything together, so when Tinker told them that only one person could use the device, everyone wondered what the pair would do.

Along with Desdemona, Sole agreed that they would teleport to the Institute in the morning rather than straight away, meaning that Sole could get a good night of sleep- or at least a little rest, no doubt they’d be tossing and turning all night.

Deacon joined Sole in the room they’d been sharing and it was that night that Sole handed Deacon the ring. At first they told him that the only reason they were giving it to him was for safekeeping- but they both knew that it was a deeper reason than that. Sole loved Deacon, and knew that Deacon would spend the time that Sole would be in the Institute worrying, and he needed something that showed that Sole loved him and would be coming back for him.

He promised them that he’d keep it safe, and he put it on his ring finger- just for safe keeping, he told them.

Deacon watched as Sole stepped on the teleporter; Deacon watched as Sole disappeared into nothingness in a flash of blue; Deacon watched as the teleporter exploded.

Deacon begged Desdemona if he could stay, however Des made him walk back to HQ with them. He sat around HQ- at nights he lay tossing and turning on the bedroll he shared with them- twisting the ring that Sole gave them. His emotions ran high when he watched Des cross the room and scribble out Sole’s name from the board (he just wrote it back up, leading to an endless cycle of Des crossing out and Deacon writing it back). Glory tried to talk some sense into him. It didn’t work.

The moment that he noticed them stumbling down the stairs to HQ, he was by their side in a second, bringing them into a kiss. Sole took his left hand in theirs, and softly ran their finger over his ring, before bringing him back into another kiss.

Hancock had different nicknames that he liked to call Sole- no matter the name, they’d always end up with a light (or dark depending on the nickname) blush spreading across their cheeks. He found it cute.

Sole and Hancock had gotten off to a bit of a rocky start; Sole had been terrified of Hancock after he stabbed Finn as soon as they’d stepped through the door to Goodneighbour. Sole had stepped cautiously around Goodneighbour, trying their hardest to avoid Hancock’s gaze, which seemed intent in following their every step.

Then Sole just had to stumble down Bobbi’s alleyway and accept the digging job from the old trouble making ghoul. Hancock had been tempted to intercept Sole and tell them what Bobbi actually had planned, however he decided to just let the scene play out. He sent Fahrenheit out to his storage warehouse- just incase Bobbi had somehow managed to better Sole, and then sat and waited until Sole came to the Old Statehouse.

Fahrenheit came back before Sole did, telling him stories of how Sole had completely lost it with Bobbi after finding out it was Hancock’s warehouse and had filled the old ghouls body with lead before she could even lift her gun to defend herself. Fahrenheit was angry that Sole hadn’t been in to talk to Hancock, but Hancock had shrugged it off- so long as they came and spoke to him, he didn’t mind when they came.

The second that Sole walked into the Old Statehouse, Hancock pulled a bottle of some old alcohol out, offering them the glass as soon as they walked into the room. They sat there talking all the way into early hours, with Sole telling Hancock that they were a little frightened of him when he’d stabbed Finn- after all, the only ghoul’s that Sole had seen previously to the point where feral ones: ones that wanted to kill them and/or eat them.

After they made confessions to each other- with Hancock repeatedly telling Sole that he hadn’t meant to make them scared of him, and that their admission of that made him feel really guilty- they’d started travelling together throughout the Commonwealth. Their travelling caused them to be in enclosed spaces a lot, which meant that they had a lot of time to spend talking together. They became closer over their mutual dislike of Hancock’s older brother, and soon the pair were inseparable. It was after they cleared out a raider den not too far from Diamond City when they’d sat together huddled in a bedroll- they’d lost their second bedroll and had to share the one- that Sole reached their hand down and given Hancock their spouse’s wedding ring. They told him that they couldn’t think of anyone else to give it too, and their spouse would have liked him and wanted him to have the ring. He’d taken the ring with happiness, and would wear it with pride, happy to show off to the world that he was  happy with Sole- even after their rocky start.

MacCready had been married once before- however neither him or Lucy had an engagement (Lucy had been the one that proposed to MacCready, since he took a long time to admit to her that he felt something for them). Of course they both knew of the pre-war traditions of gifting rings to the one that you loved and married, however buying just one ring (let alone two) in the Capitol was a costly thing- and at the time they got married, they needed to start saving all their caps, as Lucy had already found out that she was pregnant with Duncan.

MacCready knew of the pre-war traditions, however when he first spotted the ring on Sole’s ring finger he’d initially asked them what it meant and who it was from. He listened intently as Sole told him about about their spouse, and the day that they first both got their rings- their wedding day.

Sole told MacCready about their wedding day- the big dresses, the suits, the wedding cake and alcohol, and the massive party that had lasted a whole night. Sole had told MacCready of the happiness that they had felt the moment that they had been declared married; but MacCready already knew of the happiness of having that one special other, and the sadness and loneliness and heartbreak of losing one too.

When Sole had shown MacCready the matching ring, Sole had practically seen the dollar signs in his eyes- that man was all about the caps. But Sole had told him that they weren’t going to be selling them, and they’d pretty much been able to hear his heart breaking.

The rings had stayed on his mind whilst the pair travelled- just as much as Duncan had been on his mind. There was a moment (and he was disgusted to admit it) that MacCready had considered stealing the rings and making off back to the Capitol, knowing he could get a few caps for the pair and maybe he’ll be able to buy Duncan’s cure somewhere else. He’d thought about it, then he’d realised that he cared too much for Sole- especially since they were going to help him get the cure for his ill son.

It was after they’d both heard back from Duncan that Sole had given MacCready the other ring. They told him that he was something special to them, and that in the world that they lived in, they needed something positive to get by each day- and fortunately they’d found that little something positive in him. He felt both in love but very guilty- he’d seriously considered stealing the ring and yet they were going to willingly give it to him. He wore the ring with pleasure, happy that his promise of being a better man was finally coming true.

From what little Nick could remember from his pre-war life, he remembers the day that Sole and their spouse got married- Sole’s father worked in the same station that Nick worked at, and he remembers the day clearly.

Something- or everything- had gone wrong, and Sole’s father had to leave work early and go and sort everything out. Nick briefly remembers offering his help, but Sole’s father had denied the offered help. The next time Nick had seen him, he’d showed Nick the pictures of the wedding, and eventually a picture of the two rings given by each of the two newly weds.

When Nick was rescued by Sole, he’d momentarily been stuck in a moment- he stared at them, feeling de-ja-vu over them. He’d thought to himself that surely it was not them- they’d be long dead by now. As he thought it, his eyes drifted down to the ring on their finger (briefly noticing the ring on a string around his neck), and then he’d realised that it was the same person. He was sure that they recognised him as well.

He listened intently when Sole told their story of what had happened to their child Shaun and their partner (the very same one that they’d married all those years ago and their father showed him all the pictures). He’d followed them to ends of the Commonwealth, killing Kellogg and then heading down in the glowing sea to find the escaped Institute scientist, before following them back out to kill a courser.

Sole had noticed that Nick was going above and beyond what he’d promised; at first they’d put it down to him just being a nice guy, then Sole started to remember snippets of the detective Nick Valentine that their father used to work with before the war. Sole remembered her father talking about the man when he’d offered to come down and help when everything had gone wrong. Then Sole started to realise that it was the same man- just a different body.

The boundaries of their relationship began changing and adapting, and soon they were closer than any of Sole’s other friends and companions.

It was the night that Sole came back from the Institute that they gave him their spouse’s ring- somehow it had fitted on his finger like it was supposed to have been their the whole time. They sat down with him and told him that they remembered him from his previous life, and that he was- and still is- a great man, and that Sole couldn’t imagine giving the ring to anyone else. It made Nick incredibly happy to know that Sole liked- no loved- him in such ways.

When Piper had first saw the rings that had once belonged to Sole and their spouse, she had initially thought that they were entering Diamond City to sell them- they would, after all, be worth a few caps, and who doesn’t need caps nowadays in the Commonwealth.

But then they spouted off some story of how they came from a vault and were just looking for their son who’d been kidnapped, and then Piper knew there was more to this strange vault dweller than meets the eye.

In exchange for an interview, Piper offered her services to Sole, knowing that they were going to have to go and find Nick Valentine, his last known location being with the trigger happy triggermen.

Sole was stealthy, always keeping to the shadows as they moved throughout the Commonwealth; Piper was loud and obnoxious, more noticeable than the tin-can Paladin, clunking around in his power armour. However, they managed to make it to Park Street Station with minimal injuries. It hadn’t taken long to make it through the vault, and soon they were on their way back to Diamond City, bunkering down in an abandoned flat whilst they wait for the sun to go back down. It was in there that Sole told Piper the true meaning of the two rings that never left their person.

As time went on, Piper and Sole became closer; when something was on their mind they only ended up talking to each other about it. Soon, the pair became inseparable, and both Sole and Piper shared intimate details of their past lives with one another.

What had started out as friendship quickly became a relationship, and everyone was happy for them- mostly happy for Piper, who was finally showing signs of slowing and settling down.

They travelled across the Commonwealth caring for Settlements for Garvey, and it was when they were at their lighthouse settlement that Sole had given Piper their spouse’s ring. It was a little big on Piper’s fingers- before the war, nobody had to fight for their food, so everyone usually had more meat on their bones- however the ring eventually stayed on the finger, happy with the new home instead of on a string around a neck.

Piper wore the gold band with happiness; it showed people that she belonged to Sole, and Sole belonged to her (even though that fact didn’t stop many people flirting with Sole).

Sole usually drifted in and out of Sanctuary, off out to help out the various numbers of Minutemen settlements that they’d managed to established in their short three months in the Commonwealth. They usually went out travelling with the dog, however sometimes- usually when they travelled down south, as it was considerably more dangerous, especially for the dog who went running towards trouble without a second thought.

On some occasions, usually when they were going out to set up a new settlement- Preston accompanied Sole for the trip. It made him understand why Sole was always away for so long when they went away to build a new settlement- they built everything from scratch.

They managed to clear the settlement from the mirelurks that had been lurking in the location and both jointly decided to settle down for the night and then start construction the next morning in daylight.

Sole handed Preston their joint pack that was filled with mines, and he heading around the perimeter and placed the mines down, just incase they missed any pesky mirelurks anywhere. In the time that Preston was away setting up some defence, Sole had managed to set up a small fire and pulled out a couple of plates with some crispy squirrel bits and some chopped and mashed tato. They sat down to their meals, before they put the small fire out and settled down in their bedrolls opposite each other.

The next morning, Sole and Preston began clearing away various pieces of debris that littered the new settlement, before using various pieces of wood to erect a few new walls around the shell of a pre-war house. They worked their way through the day, until the walls had been built and the room inside had a few small beds pushed up against various walls.

At some point throughout the day Sole had unzipped their vault suit because of the heat, and the ring that had settled under their clothes had gotten in their way by swinging around whilst they were trying to work. Instead of taking it off the chain  that settled around their neck, they decided to take it off and give it to Preston to look after. He went to put it in his pocket, however Sole told him to wear it instead. He slipped it on his finger, and for the rest of the day until they settled down for the night it was on his mind.

That night, they sat down and Preston asked them why they gave him the ring to wear instead of just to keep safe. Sole told him that it was because they liked him more than just a friendship and that they wanted to go somewhere further in their relationship. Preston agreed- he hadn’t thought that they’d felt the same way as he did, but he was more than happy that they did and he couldn’t wait for the future- hopefully it was now a future with him and Sole together in a proper relationship.

Father had X6 watching Sole from the moment that they stepped out of the vault- X6 was Father’s most trusted courser, and although it wasn’t a coursers normal work, Father wanted someone trusted to look after their parent.

He’d followed them through much of the Commonwealth, reporting their every step to Father: when they met the Minutemen; when they met the Brotherhood; when they made their way through the vault to get back the synth detective. He watched them throughout their time in the Commonwealth- especially at night time when Sole hunkered down in a old abandoned building. He’d watch, usually from the roof of a building opposite, as they settled themselves down for the night- part of their usual routine was to sit there and twist the ring around their finger, usually bringing the second ring to join it on the same finger, before they twist the pair together at the same time, clearly lost in thought. They’d spend most their nights like this, before they’d wake up and go about their day like normal, as if they hadn’t been reminiscing about old times.

After he watched Sole walked out of the memory den, he watched as they repeated something over and over on their lips. It looked like they were muttering his designation code. But he couldn’t be too sure.

He continued to watch Sole as they made their way through the Commonwealth- watching at night as they toyed with the rings that sat on their finger. He watched up until the very last moment- the second that Sole stepped onto the teleportation and disappeared straight into the Institute. X6 relayed into the Institute and waited to talk to Father before heading back out to do his usual duties, waiting for Sole to meet him for the first time.

When Sole first spotted him, he watched as they raised his gun up to his face, before lowering their gun with their eyebrows creased. Sole sat there and told X6 that they remembered his face from when he had taken Shaun from Kellogg- for the first time in his life, X6 felt something- he felt shame.

It took a while for Sole to feel comfortable and trust X6, but after a while the pair became close. They worked a lot of missions for Father together- usually reclaiming escaped synths, but X6 was there beside Sole as they took down both the Brotherhood and the Railroad. After both of the Institute’s enemies were taken out (Sole told everyone within the Institute that the Minutemen were not to be attacked), and Father was dead, X6 and Sole became closer than ever before.

That was when Sole gave X6 the ring- but not their spouses ring, their own ring. He’d taken the ring with gratitude- he was more than happy to wear the ring with pride- it had significant meaning to both of them after all.

Sole and Maxson had been in a relationship for three months when they both decided that they wanted to get married to one another. Whilst they both wanted to wait until the Commonwealth was free of all the danger from the Institute, they also wanted to get married as soon as possible.

So, around all their other duties they started planning the wedding, only introducing a few other senior members into the planning. They’d decided that they’d have a very small ceremony and then once the threat of the Institute was gone then they’d have a larger party with everyone within the Brotherhood invited.

They’d planned the ceremony for a quiet day, when the skies were- somewhat- clear of rads, with the actual ceremony being held in the Command centre. They hadn’t planned on wearing any fancy clothing- they’d wait for the bigger celebration for that. Instead they both somewhat dressed down in their flight suits, and the ceremony was held by Kells. They both made up vows- something that Elder Maxson hadn’t heard of in the Commonwealth- each promising one another that they’d love them until the day they died- the vows were a little similar to those said when first joining the Brotherhood.

Before Kells announced them a married couple, Sole held up their finger and pulled out the rings that usually settled around their neck. They quickly passed Maxson one, before reaching for his hand and setting the ring on his finger. Maxson returned the favour- however it wasn’t that usual for people in the Commonwealth to have wedding rings, as not many items of jewelry survived the nuclear fallout- happy to have a physical item that tied the newly married couple together.

After they married Maxson became overly protective of Sole, especially in the fight with the Institute, but it wasn’t the protectiveness that gave away the fact they secretly married. It was the glistening rings on their fingers.

Des had never really thought that she’d find someone to settle down with and be married too- there had been one person, and he had been the reason that she joined up with the Railroad.

Des loved Sole’s stories. Sole would usually tell them to Deacon- who would badger them until they sat by his side and told stories- and the rest of HQ, including Des would listen in intensely. There were many great stories of traditions that didn’t happen anymore; fourth of July; Thanksgiving; Christmas. Those stories, and the reasons behind the tradition, were fascinating stories, but Sole’s personal stories of their personal lives were far more interesting to Des.

One of her favourites was the story of Sole and their spouse’s wedding rings. The jewelers had gotten the sizing wrong on both of the rings, and they’d both ended up with rings that were far too big for them- Sole and their spouse hadn’t realised until the day of the wedding when they’d exchanged their rings.

Everyone usually went to bed- or their evening post’s- after Sole’s stories. Sole, went to Desdemona’s bedroll- the bedroll that they’d ‘secretly’ been sharing for the last several months.

The next morning, at the crack of dawn- not that they could tell, being underground and all- Des woke up with a heavy feeling on her hand. She freaked out- she once woke up with a mole rat gnawing away on her hand- accidentally ending up punching Sole in the face before Sole managed to calm her down.

They explained to her that they thought it might be a nice surprise, and that they wanted to spend every day waking up beside her- so long as they don’t wake up to a punch again. Des nodded, accepting the ring- which fitted perfectly- happy to finally spend the rest of her life with someone that she actually liked in return.

Idk man like I get that Luke was pissed with the gods and had every right to be angry in which made him the perfect person to become and be Kronos but like are we also going to ignore how shitty he was for like making Percy beleive he had a friend or someone to look up to, be betrayed, turned his back on Annabeth when he promised her that they'd always be a family (and spent like his last literal moment of life asking if she loved him) luke was a shitty person just saying ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anon, you have no idea how enraged you have made me over the past few hours. I’m going to let you know I’m pissed, I’m not going to hide it, why would I? You need to know just how angry I am, because that has literally driven me to writing this answer. Before I start with the topic of Luke Castellan in general, let’s get a few things out of the way. The first thing, is going to be debunking this absolutely horrid and stereotypical ask you sent me in the first place.

  • There’s no need in telling me Luke was an absolute imbecile when it came to his judgment skills, we all know he absolutely failed that test.
  • Not once on this blog have I ever said in my life, that what Luke did to Annabeth wasn’t shitty. It was so horrible, Luke and Annabeth’s relationship was manipulative. He knew she looked up to him and he used it against her and that’s not okay. But just because he was manipulating her, does not automatically rule out the fact that he couldn’t have been being manipulated himself.
  • PSA: Because I know I’m going to have to repeat myself, I’m not excusing his behavior. I’m looking at the bigger picture.
  • Lastly, saying Luke was a shitty person because he made Percy believe he was his friend, is a weak argument and wouldn’t make it very far in an actual debate on the grounds that: Percy knew Luke a total of like what, a week? Luke, more likely than not, knew Percy was the target from the very start and treated him like a friend on purpose. He was being manipulative for who? Oh, I think we all know that. And Percy was not nearly as blinded as Annabeth this early on. He got pissed off the second he figured out it was Luke and he stayed pissed off. Percy was fully aware of what Luke was doing and he wasn’t even a quarter as affected by Luke’s betrayal than Annabeth was.
  • And that last thing, about the love thing? I’m going to get to that at the very end when we get into Luke’s character, but feel free to scroll all the way down right now.

Right now though, we’re not going to talk about Luke right away, because we all know Luke! He was a spectacularly written character! We know him very well, but do you know someone that no one seems to pay attention to? The very cannibalistic, titan lord that was canonically labeled “The Wicked One” in this series.

(I’m putting this under a read more because it’s just that long, but my read more’s on asks haven’t been working lately, so I’m really sorry if you all get stuck with this long post on your dashboards.)

As far as villains go, Cass thought, the Red Hood wasn’t so bad.  Yes, he killed people, and that was inexcusable, but at least he didn’t kill innocents.  Plus, having once been Robin had to count for something, right?

Which is why Cass didn’t turn around and leave when she saw Jason Todd sitting in the café on the corner of 15th and Larimer right where her “blind date” was supposed to be.

The date had been Stephanie’s idea.  Cass needed some “normal socialization,” according to her, and Barbara had agreed.  So the three spent an afternoon taking photos of Cassandra from every angle and describing her in flattering half-truths (“How do you spend your free time?” “Fighting criminals.” “… Studying martial arts sounds better.”).  It didn’t take long for people to start contacting her, which Cass quickly learned was not always a good thing.  Quite a few people – mostly older men – sent her some very unsavory messages, often accompanied by unwarranted images of their supposedly impressive genitals.  One man in particular, a 54-year-old named Brad, had sent a message so vile that Cass had to physically restrain Stephanie from tracking him down and smashing his face in.

Several people, though, had sent nice messages and seemed to genuinely want to get to know Cass. She got to chatting with most of them, and found that she actually enjoyed conversing with these strangers, though the textual communication was downright aggravating.  More than a little bit was lost when body language and emotion couldn’t be read.

So when one of the strangers, who used the moniker ‘noprideallprejudice’ suggested meeting up in person, Cass jumped at the chance.  They agreed on a time and location, and Cass spent the morning being poked and prodded by Stephanie, who’d insisted on helping her friend get ready.

Riarkle Teaser:
  • I don't know if this is going to be exactly how it happens in my official spec, but I was playing with some ideas, so here's a Riarkle teaser:
  • (Scene: Fade in, Riley alone on the ground by the bay window, staring off, severe thunder and lightening outside. There is a knock on the window, Riley jumps and turns around, to see Farkle staring at her from the other side, trying to get in, but stuck.)
  • Farkle:
  • (Climbs inside, completely soaking wet, sits on bench)
  • (Chuckling)
  • Picked a great time to start locking your window.
  • Riley:
  • (Sits with him)
  • Yeah, sorry about that. My dad started randomly doing it when Lucas kept climbing in...
  • Farkle:
  • Oh, yeah. Right. Lucas. That makes sense, I guess.
  • (Awkward pause)
  • Riley:
  • ...Farkle, what are you doing here? It's practically a hurricane outside, and it's really late and you're REALLY wet-
  • Farkle:
  • (Staring at the ground, slaps hands on knees.)
  • Ah yes, the point. I guess I should probably get to that.
  • (Looks at Riley, who raises her eyebrows in anticipation, takes a few deep, labored breaths, looks back at the ground and sternly begins)
  • Riley, we don’t lie to each other. Ever.
  • Riley:
  • I know that-
  • Farkle:
  • (Quickly looks at her, interrupting)
  • Do you? So then what aren’t you telling me?
  • Riley:
  • About what.
  • Farkle:
  • About how you’re feeling, Riley. You’re keeping something from me. I know you are.
  • Riley:
  • (Tensely looks away, over the top pretending to be clueless)
  • How I’m feeling? How I feel about what, Farkle?? What could I possibly be keeping from you that you don't already kno-
  • Farkle:
  • Riley.
  • RileY:
  • (Slightly frenzied, avoiding his eyes)
  • Look, you must be freezing, let’s just get you a towel and-
  • (Gets up and walks by Farkle but he stands up and grabs her arm and turns her around)
  • Farkle:
  • No, you can’t run away from this! Not this time and not from me. I care too much about you to let that happen. What is going with you? What aren't you telling me? I may not have all the answers but I know it can't stay like this. We can't stay like this. We've been best friends since we were 6, Riley. And we have to keep being honest with each other or everything will fall apart, don’t you understand that? Is that what you want?
  • Riley:
  • (Shakes him off of her, staring directly into his eyes, getting progressively upset, tears welling up)
  • No that's not what I want! Why are you doing this to me, Farkle? What do you want me to say? You want to hear about how I spent two years chasing after the wrong guy? You want to hear about how for the last 9 years of my life I've taken the best person I know for granted?

I just binged on granola and almonds and I feel so horrible and I don't know what to do and I've been sick so I haven't been able to exercise and I'm freaking out please help me.

Calm down, it’s OK :)

I’m sorry I can’t talk you through this like a friend with a comforting hand on your back, but the internet does mean we can get the best advice from people who know what they’re talking about.

Here’s some wisdom from curvecreation:

1. STOP! You’ve managed to catch yourself early enough, so put that food down and stop eating. Let’s not make a bad situation worse.

2. Remove yourself to a calm environment. Basically get away from the food. This removes further temptation to continue binging.

3. Calm yourself down. While-ever your worked up, no matter what sense you try and make of things everything will be muddled. Sit for a few moments, take some calming breaths and actively calm yourself down.

4. Accept that you binged. We all have weaknesses and we are all human. Beating yourself up or self hating on yourself won’t make progress in beating the binge. You need to take ownership for your actions and accept your poor/impulsive choice.

5. Learn from the mistake/impulse. Think about what triggered the binge to begin with. Maybe it was someone else’s comment or a memory. Maybe you say something that upset you. Whatever it was, you need to identify the trigger so you know to look out for it next time.

6. Forgive yourself. I’d personally say this is the most important step. You need to forgive yourself for binging. You need to not punish yourself for this poor act but take the time to calmly recover.

7. Keep a journal. After you’ve gone through the above process, make a little note in a notebook or journal (hell even start a password journal on here if it’s more convenient) and write down exactly what you were feeling before the binge, during and after. Write down what you think triggered you and keep a record of your progress in your journey to beat binge eating. When you have a day where you beat the binge, write it in. Then on bad days look back and see how well you’ve been doing. By writing it down you’ll be able to better identify your triggers and any trends to your Binge Eating Habits. Also by actually expelling your feelings, you’ll be less likely to eat them instead.

8. Brush your teeth. Oddly enough I found during the worst of my binge eating, after brushing my teeth I only ever continued to binge eat once, because my teeth were all clean and the taste of the food was gone. An odd but very good tip to prevent further binging.

9. Give yourself the time to recover. Spend half an hour doing something you enjoy to boost your mood back up. Have a bath, meditate, do some yoga, call a friend, spend some time with a loved one, read a book, paint a picture: do something you enjoy!

10. Move forward. You need to leave the negative feelings behind and keep moving forward. Don’t hang on to the bad stuff because you’ll never have time to focus on the good!

Things to not do when trying to recover from a binge!

1. Don’t workout like a mad woman. Chances are you’ll burn yourself out and make yourself feel even worse if you don’t reach the level you might set for yourself (which if your upset will most likely be WAY too high up the bar and therefore when you fail make you feel worse). Take it light. A walk well spent that calms you down and gives you a light boost in endorphins is much better than slogging yourself to death in the gym and possibly hurting yourself.

2. Don’t excessively restrict to compensate your binge!! This completely depends on the time of day, but don’t deny yourself food for the rest of the day if you binge at say, 10am. Doing this will actually double your chances of binging again as you’re starving your body! Just be sensible. Eat healthy and in smaller than normal portions. If its evening when you binge then by all means stop. But be responsible and care for your body. Not eating for 16 hours is not good for you!

3. Don’t keep putting yourself down about the binge. You need to let go of the self hate and self loathing after a binge and move forward. No good will be gained from constantly telling yourself you’re a failure except to make you inevitably binge again. Instead of begrudging yourself for the past, try and be positive and learn from it.

Hi! So I'm currently looking at going into an university for the arts and I've been told by many people (parents, teachers, etc.) that going to a regular non-art university with a certain design program is often better than going to a straight up art school. I see the reasoning behind that (get a secondary major/minor as a fall back plan) but I don't know if that hurts one's chance of making a career in an arts-oriented industry. Thoughts? (thank you and sorry if that doesn't make much sense!)

My mom and I had this discussion too. It’s usually backed by their logic of “Art is great yeah — but if and when it doesn’t work — you should have a REAL major. Just in case.”

As with most college things — it depends. Its just a big, big “it depends.”

There are really pros and cons to each. My own personal thinking when it came to my education was “Do I really want to juggle a business minor while learning art from generic teachers?” and “How devoted am I to an art career?”

Because really, going to an art trade school or art centric school of any kind is a lot different than taking a university art major.

Here are the main reason that affected MY choice…

1. You don’t divide your time to different skills, making your art skill stronger.
Many times, art school have no minors. I didn’t. It was all Illustration, all the way. Which gives you 4 years of all encompassing art knowledge and time to build a very strong portfolio. I’m not saying that uni students in art majors aren’t just as good artists (I’ll talk about that later.) I’m just saying the more time and energy you spend on ONE subject, the better you get at it. Its just that simple. Plus, all your classes are art driven. So not only do I know how to figure draw and color coordinate, but I know all about art history and art theory, design theory… etc, and all these subjects are geared toward making your actual major stronger.  Even our English classes are toward your field. Illustrators learn novels they can learn to depict through art — Animation students can take script writing and narrative classes… etc.  If you go to an art school you are going to finish college with a very large body of work and a bit more confidence that you spent your time devoted to working on a specific trade rather than a bunch of different things.

2. Resources.
Art schools have way more tools, classes and resources to teaching you the field. Plain and simple. Risd had an art store on campus, figure drawing every Wednesday and Saturday, giant paper cutters and wood cutting rooms for making your own matte boards and canvases, WACOM tablet computers, a room of STOCK PHOTOS, an ID building full of 3D printers, giant photo printers and much more. I was able to stretch and experiment and try a ton of different things for my portfolio simply because everything to make EVERYTHING was on hand. Not a lot of uni’s devote that amount of resources to one department. I’m not even mentioning that our whole career center is devoted to art jobs, period.

3. Art is VAST.
I was an Illustration student, and I went to RISD to become a video game concept artist. But during my year of Foundations (where they make you take beginner classes that relate to every major) I discovered that I hated doing concept art. I geared my portfolio towards costume design instead. But art is vast and very diverse. I took classes in set design, jewelry making, cinematic storytelling (storyboards), character design, Game Assets, Web Design, 3D Printing, Product Photography and more. I took charge of my college experience to learn lots of different art tools and techniques. I also was sure to take classes in Business and Entrepreneurship (with a focus on art companies and such.)  When I graduated I worked for Cirque Du Soliel and in between jobs I freelanced making websites. Currently I’m working at a Fashion Design house retouching models in photoshop. I also know how to create jewelry in 3D CAD CAM, so I know that should I need to and the costuming doesn’t work out — I have skills that can be applied to the jewelry buisness ( or heck, I know how to storyboard and do character designs, even if I don’t like doing it). I know a lot of amazing alumni who finished in one major and had a successful career in another. Regardless of my major I have a BFA in art which makes me a candidate for ANY art job (even teaching college art without a teaching degree, lol). My fall back plan to my art career is just a different art career.

Okay — now just to play my own devil’s advocate, let me argue all those points with just one:

In the end, your employers are going to pick you because of your artwork — not your school.

So if you decide to got to a university and have a minor in buisness — so long as your Portfolio is strong then it really doesn’t matter once you get out into the art world. Sometimes the school (art OR uni) gets you into the door for the interview… but at the end of the day all that anyone will care about is your actual work.

I would say that if you want to go to a university, be prepared to motivate yourself to do above and beyond what they can offer you. Sometimes uni’s art department curriculum are limiting. So you got to motivate yourself to do more research, more work, more learning, and more experience on your own time.

This goes for if you plan on not attending a college at all! Which is another viable option!

The key to this is SELF MOTIVATION. And taking advantage of your own education, whether that means going above and beyond a uni, or taking advantage of art school, or not going to college at all.

Personally I’m shit at that. I need someone to give me a specific assignment. I can do anything if someone gives me rules and a deadline. When someone says “do whatever” or its left up to me, I just get lost and don’t do anything. So — to RISD I went.

I saw some displeasure about YoI in the tags. I've got mixed feelings about it, so I'd be really interested in hearing a negative opinion to contrast all the glowing praise I've been seeing. Um, if you don't mind.

ANMFKJD G I NEVER THOUGHT I’D SEE THIS IN MY ASK. But hello, it’s Grahm, and boi do I have some gripes about yuri on ice.

As a preface, I’m bi n transmasculine so if i get people callin me homophobic because i have hatred for this ship ill be pickin apart, bye im a mlm so I’m directly affected by the stereotypes presented.

In this show, there are major flaws. I could not tell you the plot, the animation is terribad, and its getting boring seeing Yuuri do the same type of routine every episode he’s in a competition? Everybody else has a different program but I guess that might be a Me thing. But I could look past that if there weren’t some gross as heck stereotypes towards LGB+ people.

When Yuuri meets Viktor, theres an ass shot. Obvious pandering to fangirls out there. Then there’s Chris and his routine that makes everybody uncomfortable where he basically busts a nut in front of thousands of people. Again, fanservice. Then we have how touchy-feely Viktor and Yuuri are.

There’s nothing wrong with being close to somebody. Me n comet are always just chillin near each other. But how YOI went about it, it’s way too sexualized and promotes the fact all LGBT+ people are Sex Demons. Personally, I noticed immediately that it wasn’t natural. The jumping around the anime does makes it hard to keep track. And there’s Off Screen Bonding that we don’t get to see; the sudden closeness of Yuuri and Viktor makes no sense considering how little bonding they’ve done if you really think about it. It leaves an odd disjointed feeling to the entire scope of things and takes the fun out of the slow burn.

Regardless of that though, Yuuri and Viktor are coded like the ~traditional~ heterosexual relationship. This is where the woman is dainty and traditionally feminine while the guy is dominant and traditionally masculine. Yuuri acts more masculine while Viktor can be looked at as the feminine coded one. Viktor is always helping Yuuri get ready [tying his skates, putting lip balm on him, blowing his nose for him, etc] That’s the traditional wife taking care of her husband. A majority of mlm relationships don’t have that kind of dynamic. And to see that as excellent representation?? It’s not a good thing to see because if that’s all the representation we have, young impressionable people won’t see any different in real life.

And when you consider the power imbalance it is just gross. Yuuri idolizes Viktor WAY too much for it to ever be a good relationship. He’s holding Viktor up on a pedestal and it’s easy to manipulate somebody without even meaning to when you’re in that position.

Moving on, the YOI fandom makes it seem like this is so revolutionary of an anime. When no…it’s not? After the kiss, they acted like nothing happened? When you’d tihnk they’d address it if it was such an important part of the plot. In any show, they always put so much weight to whenever somebody kisses another because it’s seen as a sign of romance. Yet YOI completely ignores it like it never happened, doesn’t even have Yuuri like flash back to it and act happy it happened. Like that’s not something you would do if your partner just kissed you and even if it’s gonna be played off as , “European’s kiss people all the time!!” that’s still so much queerbaiting because they drew us in with the intent that there would be a mlm relationship when no, they got fricking gal pal’d basically.

One of my other problems is they just…ignore the homophobic/transphobic nature Japan has?? They do not have very many rights laws in place for LGBT+ people and to just ignore that all together and how harmful it is to people in ice skating is sloppy and disconcerting.

They’re acting like it’s not a thing when Viktor is based off a real life skater, Johnny G. Weir. He was berated and docked points because he was too “flamboyant” before he even came out as being gay. Japan assumed he was LGB+. Yet YOI acts like that was never a thing and everything’s all fine and dandy. If they made it a point to say, “Hey, yeah LGBT+-phobia is dumb as heck but we’re past it in this universe”, that’d be acceptable but they just don’t bring it up at all.

But ice skating is openly homophobic and ignoring it like there’s nothing to see is like America trying to ignore how racist they were in the past by putting up laws prohibiting teachers from saying that the slave trade was the reason for the civil war. They’re trying to say it doesn’t happen and tackle it headon. If they showed Yuuri and Viktor going through the discrimination and homophobia while coming out stronger, that’s a fantastic dynamic and problem to tackle. It affects millions of people daily, LGBT+ discrimination, but YOI doesn’t feel like it’s important enough to include I guess.

All in all, YOI is pretty cheaply made. The animation is sloppy with yuuri having a damn noodle and half the budget was spent on animating asses. It’s a shame because I was looking forward to it since ice skating is a beautiful sport. I am not here, though, for the queerbaiting garbage YOI has turned out to be as it actively portrays mlm in a bad light and sexualizes us even more than we need.

"Hey everybody, today I've been put through the torture of painting this ones house" You sighed at the end before turning the camera onto Harry, he turned to the camera a paint roller in his hand, his smile wide as he waved a little with his free hand. "Hello" He said his voice raspy. "For those of you who don't know him, which if you don't where have you been these last 3 years" Harry chuckled as you had the camera on yourself. "This is Harry Styles" You swapped the camera to him again, who had turned to face the camera again. "Her boyfriend" He confirmed to everyone. "Now put that camera down and help me lazy!" He said trying to put some paint on the end of your nose which you merely missed. After placing your camera on the tripod you picked up a paintbrush and starting painting just underneath where Harry was. After only mere moments the both of you forgot about the camera still recording. "Get on my shoulders" He said looking up towards the ceiling his eyes landing back on yours. Your face said it all, confusion written all over it. "I need you to paint the top of the wall, it's not like you'll be able to carry me" He sighed crossing his arms across his chest making you feel smaller than you were already, Harry being at least a head taller than you. "Wanna bet?" You mocked him by crossing your arms across your chest and cocking your hip to the side. "Get on" You said bending down a little so Harry had only a step to get onto your shoulders. "Ill crush you, you're tiny" He sighed looking towards the camera that he had just remembered about, your mind still oblivious to it. "I'm stronger than you think my boy" You eyed him up and down taking in his extreme height and toned muscles he couldn't have weighed too much more than your brother and you carried him on your shoulders all the time. Without any other words Harry grasped your shoulders with both hands, elegantly sliding his long leg over your shoulder your hand grabbing his thigh immediately. "Don't drop me" He said laughing as you were starting to already struggle with the weight of only one leg, he knew too well that you were going to drop him. He hoisted his other leg over your free shoulder the wall he was holding supporting him. You grabbed his other thigh as he gently let go of the wall. Your legs shaking, but you were holding him up (just). "See..." You huffed as you could barely talk through the weight. "Don't die on me down there" He said starting to stoke the wall with the grey paint, your legs wobbling more than ever. "[Y/N] NOOOO!" Harry bellowed as your legs gave way and he toppled from your shoulders sending him into the grey paint on the floor, his once white tshirt now a dark grey. You stood there with your hands over your mouth trying to mask your laughter. He stood from his place on the ground turning towards the camera "And to the guys out there this is why you don't trust your girlfriend" He sighed smiling towards you as he turned the camera off. "You're dead!" He said winking at you before scrapping the paint off his tshirt chasing you. Within seconds he had you pinned underneath him as he straddled your thighs your face now covered in grey paint, "Let me go!" You said squirming but you were useless underneath his strength "Kiss me first" He laughed pouting his lips and closing his eyes. You smeared grey paint all over your lips before planting them on Harry's. His eyes flung open as you squirmed from his grip running towards the bathroom. Harry rolled his eyes at the childish girlfriend he had but he couldn't live without you. Best vlog ever the subscribers described it as.
  • Louis: "Good morning everyone!" You exclaimed sitting on the couch next to your boyfriend of 2 years. "HIIII!" Louis yelled towards the camera before you could introduce him. Louis had been in only a few of your vlogs, knowing he was always on tour so when you were together you took advantage of him. "We've got a little ask [Y/N] and Louis video for you today, so I asked you on twitter for some questions for Louis" You smiled at your boy as he turned from you towards the camera "And I asked you on twitter some questions for [Y/N] and we picked our favourites to ask right now" You watched in awe at how natural your boyfriend was in front of the camera, his features looking so good in the screen of a camera. "Babe first questions for you" He smiled at you before reading something from his phone. "When was the moment when you really knew you loved Louis" He read out, pulling his phone from his face having his full attention on you. You were taken back by the question knowing Louis had never heard this before he knew you loved him but he never knew the moment you knew you were in love with him. "Well.." You began "He was actually on tour at the time and we'd only been dating for about 2 months, we were skyping each other, and I remember Liam was in his room with him and Liam was blabbering on about how Louis was miserable without me and that he missed my cuddles, he was upset most nights. I was so shocked that I actually didn't believe him until..." You smiled to him, sparkles in his eyes. "Louis said 'it's true, I'm lost without you' after that Skype call I legitimately went straight to my Mum and my sister and said 'I'm in love with him'. It was such a small moment but knowing he was feeling as miserable as I was knowing he was gone just made my heart burst so it only took me two months to fall head over heels for this idiot" You laughed grabbing his cheek and pinching it a little, his smile from one ear to another. "I never knew that, do you know what?" He sighed kissing you lightly on the lips before continuing. "Liam looked at me straight after that Skype call, at how happy I was after talking to you. He sighed at me and said 'You love her don't you?'" He kissed you again. "And I said 'I love her more than life itself and I couldn't be happier'" He kissed you one last time a little bit longer this time and as the vlog went on so many more little things were confessed about you and Louis bringing you closer than you'd ever been before.

Sorry, I'm just curious. Why don't you ship wolfstar? Thank you, and have an awesome day!

I don’t ship wolfstar b/c I feel like the proposed dynamic of it would change the very basis of what the marauders’ friendship was. I feel like if there were two people who were closer than the rest out of that group of people it would be James and Sirius.

It was James&Sirius, Sirius&James, they were always together and while I see that all four of them were really close, I think it’s an important aspect of the dynamic that James and Sirius are the closest out of the group. They started out as best friends and then added Remus and Peter to their ‘group’. Sirius was the only one who could talk James down from doing something stupid (like in the 5th book when the whole scene down by the lake goes down) and the only way Sirius really understood the severity of what he had down when he tricked Snape into going to the shrieking shack is when he sees that James is mad at him.

It’s an important part of Sirius’s character that James was the most important person in his life. And while Harry takes that spot upon James’s death, whenever he looks at Harry he still tries to see James in him because he misses him that much. Loving James and doing everything for Harry in James’s name/place and avenging James is arguably Sirius’s most important, if not only, role in the series itself.

The concept that Sirius cared for someone more than James or that it was someone else in their friendship group just doesn’t make any sort of sense to me.

Not even to mention the fact that Remus fully believed that Sirius had betrayed James? Like, we don’t know exactly what went on between everyone in that last year of James’s life but if Remus supposedly loved Sirius and knew him better than everyone, even James, how could he even entertain the notion that Sirius could possibly 1) support Voldemort and his supporters (the people Sirius had spent his whole life separating himself from) or 2) betray James? Literally the person he cares most about in the world?? Who has literally given him everything???? (I.E. A home and support after he ran away).

Remus allowing himself to believe that, even for a short amount of time, shows that there’s some sort of disconnect between them and that Remus really doesn’t know Sirius as wholly as a lot of people like to think. This only furthers my point that the closest pairing of people within their friend group has to have been James and Sirius (like that canonically proven?)

Idk, I’m just going to end this here b/c I think I had another point but I don’t really remember it??

But yeah, I just don’t see wolfstar as plausible at all and I feel like when people try to force it they change the essence of Sirius’s role in the story too much for my comfort.

I mean, to each his own and feel free to ship wolfstar in the comfort of your own home but I tend to keep it off my blog b/c of personal preference.

In time.

Aaron sat at the bar, disheartened after another failed deal for the scrapyard. Ever since he’d lost Robert all other things seemed to have gone awry. He couldn’t sleep, he couldn’t stay focused on work and even he and Adam had fallen out on a numerous of occasions. And he couldn’t tell him why. Outing someone was not something he would do. He knew first hand what that could do to a person.
He’d come close to telling Paddy, backing out in the last second, coming up with some faux story of some first date that didn’t last long.
He’d snarled at his mother enough times for her to know that there was no point in bringing the subject to surface again.
So he sat, at the bar, pint in his hand, licking his wounds in his lonesome. There was just one other person who would understand and he wasn’t around anymore.
He had chosen her.
It had been three months but the thought still made his heart wrench. And he damned himself for getting so wrapped up in someone he knew he could never have. Why had he let himself fall so hard? He had known, and Robert had made it perfectly clear, that nothing could come from their affair. Still, he had hoped. Yeah Robert could be a real ass sometimes, dropping her name into conversations, not realizing how much it hurt him.
But then there was the sweet side to him that he hadn’t seen him display to anyone else: the hugs, the comforting tone of his voice, the arm around his waist during the few nights they had spent together.
“Another one?” Diane’s voice interrupted his thoughts. She nodded at his almost empty glass.
“Nah, you’re alright” he said, swirling the glass but making no attempt of drinking. He just kept staring at the liquid, as if he needed something, anything, to focus on to keep him steady. To keep him from falling.
“I hate seeing you so sad” She nodded her head over at Chas who was on the other side of the bar. “She’s worried about you, you know”
Aaron glanced quickly in his mother’s direction. “Well you can tell her to stop, I’m fine” he said, voice deep and determined.
Diane smiled vaguely at him, knowing there was nothing more she could say before turning her head to another customer.
Aaron threw back the last of his beer. Why couldn’t everyone just leave him alone!? He slammed the glass down hard, receiving an annoyed look from his mother.
“Oy, take it easy” Chas reprimanded.
“Whatever” he stood up and was just about to head for the backroom when he felt a hand on his arm. Robert. “What do you want?” he asked somewhat angrily, because if he stayed in a sulky mood he’d be able to control himself. He’d be able to restrain himself from being the lovesick little boy that he always was around him. And he hated himself for it.
“Can we talk?” Robert asked quietly.
“Didn’t think we had anything to talk about” he was now looking intently at Robert, who, to his surprise, looked smaller than usual, who seemed to suddenly lack all his sway and cockiness. Who, looked afraid?
“Please Aaron, can we just go in the back?” his tone was almost desperate.
Aaron kept his gaze, trying to figure out what he wanted from him. What it could possibly be after all this time. He wasn’t sure he wanted to know. He’d hurt enough and he wasn’t going to be hurt again. “No” he said shortly and turned around, making his way behind the bar.
Robert’s head sank, his gaze fell to the floor and his thumb and finger rubbed the potential tears out of his eyes. He had to do something. Anything. He looked up, and saw Aaron nearly head out of the room. It was now or never.
“I love you too!” he yelled, loud and clear for the whole pub to hear. Chas and Diane both stopped in their tracks and they were now looking back and forth between them, filled with shock.
Aaron froze at the words. Did he hear them right? Was Robert really saying what he’d given up all hope of ever hearing? He was afraid to turn around and discover it was all a joke, that Chrissie had walked in and the words were really meant for her. He could hear his heart palpitating deep in his chest and each thud became harder as he slowly turned around and was met by several people looking at him, Chas, Diane, few of the regulars, Cain and Moira in the back of the pub. It was completely silent. And on his left side, there he was, Robert, looking as serious as he’d ever seen him and he now took a few steps forward, closing their distance even further.
It wasn’t a joke.
“I love you too” Robert’s words were quieter now, more fragile. On step closer. “I’ve been an idiot.” His eyes were shining. “I’m so sorry”
Aaron was glued to his spot, afraid that if he moved some sort of spell would be broken and all of this would be a dream.
“Say something then” Robert pleaded. It was still so quiet around them. He took another step closer to Aaron, approaching carefully as if to not scare him away.
“I..” Aaron started, but his voice and words failed him. A single tear made its way out of the corner of his right eye and he quickly wiped it away with the back of his hand. He wasn’t prepared to show himself so vulnerable again. He couldn’t go through this again. He gnawed on his lower lip. There was a long pause. “Don’t mess me around” he finally said, his voice small and his eyes scared.
“I’m not messing you around” Robert’s answer came quickly and with utter earnest. “I’ve left Chrissie and I’ve been a fool and I can’t stop thinking about you and I am so so..”
He didn’t get a chance to finish his sentence before Aaron had closed the gap between them and planted his lips on his. And they were as sweet and soft as he could remember and how he ever had managed to live without them was beyond him, without the intoxicating smell that was Aaron’s and all the softness and hardness in just the right places. And he didn’t really care who was in the pub or what they would say. He’d heard most comments about him anyway. For the first time in his life, he was in the right place and he never wanted to let go.
“Fish and chips, table..” Victoria’s voice broke the silence of the pub before she dropped the plates on the floor as well as her jaw. “Oh my goood” she stared at her brother and friend.
Diane quickly bend down to help Victoria with the food on the floor. “When did all this happen?” Victoria whispered not so quietly to Diane.
“Your guess is as good as mine pet. It would certainly explain why Robert’s been in a worse mood than usual lately. ”
It was Aaron who broke their embrace first, remembering where they were. His eyes were beaming and he had to chew on the inside of his cheek to prevent himself from grinning like an idiot. He shot a quick glance around the room. “Should we go somewhere else?”
Robert smiled and reached for Aaron’s hand. “Lead the way”

Fever Dreams - A Brutasha Fic

Okay, so, some poor anon prompted me for this eons and eons and eons ago and I have finally completed it! I don’t think it’s perfect but it’s gotten to the stage that I’ll post it at so here we are.

Title: Fever Dreams

Summary: Brutasha oneshot based on the prompt: ‘I thought you were dead’ Extended/alternate farmhouse scene, obvious AOU spoilers, probing into what Wanda might have forced Bruce to see that led to the incident with Hulk in Johannesburg that spills out when Natasha confronts him about it afterwards. Mixed perspective between Nat and Bruce.

Teaser“The code words, the holding back, the lullabies, the precautions, the control he thought he’d had suddenly seemingly laughable. Paper chains and hollow, wooden shields that, when faced with the Hulk, had been ripped and torn and shattered to fragments, along with their blind delusions that he could be safe, that he could be tamed, that he could ever be anything like a hero.”

Captain America: The Winter Soldier CS AU.

Note: This is only part one, of who knows how many parts. I’ve been working on this for over a year, and have purposely avoided reading all variations on Captain America CS aus within the fandom. Dunno when the next part will be ready, but, well. This is a project near and dear to my heart. So it’s definitely not going to be abandoned. Shout out to @swallowedsong for encouraging me to post, @alchemistc who I’ve been telling about this for ages, and AU week in general for rallying us all together and inspiring so many wonderful works.

Title from the song “Dead Hearts” by Stars.

He wakes up fuzzy, warm and cold all at once, head pounding and tongue heavy in his mouth, like he’s swallowed sand that tastes like the worst toothpaste he’s ever tasted in his life.

He wakes up and he notices several things in quick succession:

The bed beneath him is strangely soft.

His clothes are strangely tight and unstarched.

The air feels stuffy and fake.

The game on the radio is several years old. He knows this because he was at that game with Liam.

He sits up and he knows—he knows that something is very, very wrong.

(The last thing he remembers is a plane, and cold, and water, and her and—

“I’m gonna need a raincheck on that dance.”

“All right. A week next Saturday at the Rabbit Hole.”

“You got it.”

“8 o’clock on the dot. Don’t you dare be late. Understood?”

“You know I still don’t know how to dance.”

“I’ll show you how. Just be there.”

“We’ll have the band play something slow.”

            “Killian? K—”)

            “Captain Jones.”

He pulls himself out of his thoughts and glances up at the woman who’s just walked in. Something about her is off, too. Everything is wrong.

            “Where am I?”

“A recovery room in New York City,” she answers with a smile. Her uniform is right—like the one he’d seen Emma wear (Emma) but—

            “No. Where am I, really?

            Her smile falters.

            “I don’t understand.”

Well, he thinks darkly. That makes two of us.
