but i still wanted it on that tag for personal organization

hermione still flinches when ron’s hands brush her neck and she doesn’t understand why she does, because the cold, metal sting and everything that happened later, is painfully different from his soft palms. she stops wearing perfume, and starts casting protection charms.

remus despises his nature so much that the scars on his body are from his own hands. he knows what the taste of wolfsbane is when it doesn’t quite work; bitter and unmistakably sweet—it’s sirius’s blood when he goes too far.

ginny’s hands shake uncontrollably when she writes for hours at a time. the words will start to swim across the page and mix and scramble into anagrams. hi, i’m tom. what’s your name? hi, i’m tom. what’s your name? hi, i’m tom. what’s your na—

pansy knows what it’s like to cast unforgivables on first years. she learns how to enunciate the words with refined perfection, and learns how to want to hurt them. she throws up in the abandoned washroom after every lesson, and finds comfort in the absent arms of moaning myrtle.

ron faints everytime he apparates. he’ll wake up in hermione’s lap; his hair wet against his forehead, and his arms heavy with sweat. he always reaches for his shoulder and visibly relaxes when blood doesn’t rub off his fingers. he doesn’t know how to control his anger either, and feels the shame creep into his skin whenever hermione looks at his chest. he knows that she’s looking for the locket because he wishes that was what he could lay his blame on.

tom falls in love at the age of twelve—watched glimmering jewels glide down his own hand and pool at the bland tiles in the orphanage; started fires just to keep things lively. he collects followers like sheep in a mindless herd and finds that the acclaimed intricacies of a human brain is much more dull than he had imagined. he holds fear like a baby would with a blanket and spends nights wishing he had more time. he dies knowing he never had enough.

draco knows what it’s like to have your mind violated and out bare for all the world to see. he remembers severus saying that veritaserum has no taste, and discovers that he was wrong. the so called non dimensional potion is much too similar to the taste of the silent pleas he shouted when he watched snatchers salivate at the sight of his mother, or the copper droplets of red that sprinkled the surface of his cracked lips when he watched children slaughtered in the blink of an eye.

sirius has spent his entire childhood without the warmth of a mother’s embrace or the reassuring words of a father. he tells himself he’s okay with it—that he would rather have no family than one that wished his friends dead. he doesn’t know what to think when he has neither family or friends alive—the only embrace he will ever feel again is the one that lurks behind bars in his azkaban cell.

luna stops searching for wrackspurts, and instead, starts organizing her fathers office. she should be relieved when people stop calling her loony lovegood but all she feels is the absence of her imagination. war, it seemed, was not an adventure, but an old friend that came at inconvenient times in history.

harry doesn’t want to start a family because every father he has ever had has been hurt at his own expense. ginny rocks his body against her chest and brushes the tears away from his eyes as soon as they fall. she tells him that he’ll learn how to be a father—that it will come as naturally as magic had. the sharp pain that lodges inside of him whenever albus retreats back into his room is reflected so blatantly on ginny’s face. he wishes that he were a blind man so that he never had to see his mistakes out in the open, and rubs at his fading scar.

despite the years that had passed, it seemed that all was not well.

get this - a Thai show about gay love refuses to cast gay men in the roles of gay men (I know, unbelievable)

they (the organizer of the show) released a statement saying that they were searching only for straight actors because they felt they would fit the roles (of gay men) better

not only did they basically admit that they’re not creating their series for anyone but straight fangirls by saying something like that (because they can still ship themselves with the straight actors even if they somewhat or completely believe in their OTPs), they’ve also used a really popular, openly gay rising actor, Newyear Kitiwhut (part of an internet-famous Thai gay couple) to draw attention, only to drop him in the final stages of auditions (he brought in a lot of fans and supporters to the show by auditioning)

it also shows that they don’t really care about the content they are creating and the story they are telling, just the popularity of it (even if the organizer of the show is gay himself, he still only wanted straight men to play the roles)

you can read the full translation of the statement here + the opinion of the person who translated

the show is called 2Moons The Series

Got any coming out tips?? I'm in a safe environment so I'm not at risk, but it's still difficult...

Here is literally everything I can think of about coming out:

In general:

  • Don’t come out around holidays or stressful family events
  • Be clear with the person you’re coming out to about who else you are out to so they don’t out you to other people accidentally
  • Specify what changes you want to make now, e.g. new name, new pronouns, etc.
  • Specify, if it’s appropriate (e.g. when coming out to a parent or close friend), what changes you may want to make in the future, e.g. hormones, surgery, etc. Don’t feel obligated to share this information to anyone but people you are close with.
  • Remind them that you’re still the same person you’ve always been
  • Be kind and patient with them if they are sad, confused, shocked, or scared. Don’t engage if they are hostile or refuse to even try to understand or accept you.

Coming out in person:

  • Plan what you’re going to say ahead of time. It will save you the difficulty of having to figure out how to phrase things when you’re nervous.
  • Choose a time when the person is not busy and is in a good mood
  • Try to anticipate questions they might have and plan how you will respond

Writing a letter:

  • This is a good method if you get very anxious coming out to people in person
  • Proofread and revise; try to have someone else read it if possible (you can post it (anonymously if necessary) on online support forums if you aren’t out to anyone)
  • Give it to them and then give them space to read it, but still make sure you are still accessible (personally, I went to a friend’s house, but knew my mother could call or text if she needed to; you can also just stay in your room)

Coming out on social media:

  • It’s often a good idea to tell close friends and relatives personally before coming out on social media
  • A brief post explaining the changes that need to be made (e.g. name, pronouns, gendered terms like niece/nephew, etc.) should suffice
  • You can also just change your name on the account and wait for people to catch on
  • Really, you can do anything you want. Coming out on social media is pretty flexible.
  • If you have conservative people who follow/friend you on your account, be prepared for the possibility of rude comments. Feel free to block/unfriend them.

Coming out with a powerpoint:

  • Seems oddly formal to me, but it works great for some people
  • Helps you organize your thoughts
  • You can add silly slide transitions if you want to be a bit less serious about it

If you’re nervous:

  • Deep breaths
  • Positive thoughts
  • Consider how you will respond ahead of time if people react badly, but don’t dwell on it
  • Tell someone you’re already out to so they can provide moral support

Afterwards:

  • Communicate frequently. Tell them when they do things that upset or hurt you. Ask them what you can do to make the change easier for them.
  • As long as they’re trying, be patient. Adjusting to a new name, pronouns, and way of seeing someone takes time. Give gentle reminders when they slip up.
  • Provide resources. Our resources tag (link) has info that can be helpful for families of trans people. You can also direct them to this blog to ask questions, if you think that would help.
  • Be prepared for conflict. It can take a while for people to understand.
  • Rely on your support system
  • Encourage the person/people you came out to to rely on their support system. Acknowledge that having a loved one come out as trans can be difficult or scary, but discourage them from trying to make you deal with their fears and confusion. If possible, direct them to a local support group for family and friends of trans or LGBTQ people.

Good luck!

Followers (and Kayden/Ami), if you have any other tips, let me know and I’ll add them in.

Weird/Fun Places for Sigils✨

Sigils are so much fun, man, and there are thousands of uses and places to put them. Personally, I’m a big fan of ones that are a bit more hidden, just because it gets tiring to have to explain to everyone what it is, and sometimes they relate to personal things.

Here are some suggestions for places to put sigils and their possible meanings!

  1. Under your study/work desk to enhance motivation and to promote calmness
  2. On your keychain! Use the little name tags that you always seem to randomly have, and charge it to protect your home when you use the keys on the keychain :)
  3. Makeup bottles/containers, to help with glamours and self-confidence
  4. Nametags–some dorms have nametags on the doors. Try writing a protection sigil on the backside of it, so whoever enters your room means you no harm (and so you don’t get robbed, which has been happening a lot in my dorm lmao yikes)
  5. Textbooks! Sigils for letting everything you read fully sink into your brain!
  6. Notebooks, either for school or for other things! For when you’re reviewing for a test, or to make sure that your notes are organized and easy to understand.
  7. On your water bottle
  8. SNAPCHAT YOUR SIGILS!! I know this isn’t necessarily a place, but snapchatting to your coven/friends is an easy and efficient way of getting sigils to them fast. Screenshotting them is a possible way to charge them, too.
  9. If you’re feeling particularly crafty, some mechanical pencils have enough space that you can slip a piece of paper into them! Create your sigil, slip it into your pencil, and charge it or feel its effects as you write
  10. Another crafty place, if you’re so inclined, is the inside of your jackets/sweaters. You can sew a sigil into the inner layer of your jacket, hidden from view but still on your person :)
  11. More sewing! If you’re feeling EVEN MORE adventurous and artsy, make a quilt/blanket and imbue it with peaceful sigils
  12. Under your cups/on drink coasters (Like how Rylee does with this tea recipe)
  13. Backpaaaacks. To help make sure you never forget an assignment or lose anything
  14. Slip a sigil into your pillowcase for good dreams and fitful sleep, or even under your roommate’s bed to try to encourage them to have a restful sleep so they don’t wake you up (can you tell I’m a bit bitter)
  15. You can put them behind posters, too, for when you want a sigil to affect the room but don’t want people to keep asking questions about it.
  16. On your medication bottles, or those little weekly planning things for your medicine, so you don’t forget to take them and remember to refill them before you run out!
  17. On the corners of flashcards, to help you remember what you’re studying
  18. In the front of your book of shadows! To keep away nosy people, to ensure your spells/rituals will retain their powers when redone, or to help you remember what that darn shorthand you used means
  19. When I’m feeling nervous on the bus or any other public place, I draw out sigils just with my finger on any surface, focusing on not letting anyone bother me or get too close
  20. In the glove compartment of your car!
  21. On your laptop, so it may never crash and have you lose hours’ worth of work :’)))

I could honestly go on and on, and there would still be things I’m forgetting. Feel free to add more ideas!! It’s always so fun seeing where people put their sigils :)

One example of how an exchange with a spirit works for mutual benefit

As a spirit worker of some years of experience, this is how I would personally go through contacting a spirit in order to receive help from the spirit world.

PEN AND PAPER For a serious working I will take a piece of paper and write things down and organize them just as if I was planning them for a spell. What I want to happen, what I would not like to happen, and so on. Then I will also plan my offerings to the spirit. This does not always mean physical items like candles, incense, or bread. This can regularly mean offerings of service. For example some nature spirits may request you spend a certain number of hours doing litter removal or conservation work. Another type of spirit may request that you make a post about it, to increase its fame so it may work with more humans. An important part of this step is what you are not willing to give.

If I am in a more informal setting or doing a less serious act of magic I will often do this phase of planning in my head.

PREPARATIONS Depending on the type of spirit being called there must be certain preparations in place. For a certain type of ritual (which you can find under my articles tag called “spirit worker’s spell”) I will call the quarters and see which spirit of the elements is best suited for the job. To prepare for that I would want my ritual tools to represent the quarters as well as a simple offering to thank the spirits for showing up. If it were a Goetic demon there would be very formal preparations, for example. Just be prepared for your guest.

In general: Work in nature or a clean space (clean space = respectful of your guest). Incense is nice because it is pleasing, especially if you can determine a scent your guest might like. In my path it is polite to have a simple offering of incense to thank a guest just for arriving. Then if you anticipate the spirit will require other physical offerings, have them close at hand. Also have things you regularly rely on such as your grimoire, tarot deck for communication, and so on.

Extra Safety: Work within magic circles. Cast one around yourself with the specific intent to keep out all negative energies and any spirit which wishes you harm or ill-intent. Then, summon the spirit in to a second protected circle, from which it may return home but otherwise cannot leave. (This is assuming the spirit is summoned, as opposed to walking up to it in nature and saying hello). Besides your magic circle have with you a strong amulet of protection (excellent practice if you don’t have one yet!!) and special banishing and “emergency” tools like banishing powders, flying devil oil, salt, and highly uplifting and banishing incenses such as frankincense, rosemary, and bay leaf.

If I am doing a very serious spell I will take a full purifying bath. In general I make sure to never go in to spirit communication with too much “gunk” on me and I often do small or large purifying rituals before spirit work. If your spirit contact made you feel uneasy in any way, consider a purifying and protective bath afterwords (try rosemary, bay leaf, and a heap of basil in salt water!).

CONTACT If I am seeking the help of a specific nature spirit I will go to that place and simply say hello and initiate conversation. Another way to work with nature spirits is having a piece of that natural thing, like some bark, a stone from a mountain, or a jar of water. Use this smaller element to contact the larger spirit! The way I perceive spirits is through the platform of my imagination. A being will appear in my mind’s eye, and I will speak to it through words, visions, and feelings. Other people will have different experiences. “Seeing spirits” is a Golden Standard ™ that distracts people from real communication. A big hint for me is that the energy changes around me when a “real” spirit is near. I really recommend just talking with plants and stones and trees to learn what spirit communication is for you. Don’t compare your experiences to that of others. Don’t you want your own beautiful and unique way speaking with spirits, true to you and your true nature?

If I am instead summoning a spirit I will go through the steps to do that. Usually I can feel the energy change around me before I perceive the spirit. Nature spirits can still be dangerous but especially if summoning ensure you have the proper protective steps such as those mentioned in italics above.

PLEASANTRIES I don’t go straight to business unless I am working with an entity who is known for not liking small talk. I don’t sit down and have a cup of coffee with a spirit and catch up about the kids, but I introduce myself with my magical name, say why I have asked them to come, and ask them if they are agreeable to continue. Sometimes spirits will have certain questions, such as, “why am I in this circle?” I will answer honestly (don’t lie!!!!) and say, “this circle is for my personal protection.” Often, spirits congratulate my forethought on safety. Another spirit may ask if they may first have a glass of water, which is alright by me. I do consider it a red flag if a spirit asks for a big offering right away, as this is not proper protocol. Just as we treat them with etiquette, they should treat us with etiquette.

At this time I also begin reading this spirit in a polite way (not trying to force my way in to their mind; like reading body language). I want to know if the spirit is uncomfortable or gives of bad vibes, or if they seem pleasant and helpful. To do this I pay special attention to my emotions and “back of the mind” thoughts that often slip by unnoticed.

In general once the spirit has finished asking questions, if they even have any, most seem willing to get right down to work. This is after all a business meeting.

THE CONTRACT I will state plainly what I wish to be done. There is no need to say why; I don’t think it’s the spirit’s business, and I don’t think most would care! “I need to ensure my credit card is paid off by June.” “I need my friend’s day at work to go smoothly and quickly.” “I need a teacher in meditation.” Whatever it is I have to say I am clear about it, using carefully thought out language so I am not confusing or vague in the slightest.

There’s a caveat I put in, somewhere, along the line. It sounds like this: “If you are able to accomplish this task for me, then…” You want to make sure you actually state that you expect RESULTS. Anyway, moving on.

Right away, without pause, I roll in to what I have to offer the spirit. If I am working with a certain spirit or type of spirit I have worked with before and I know what they usually like I will come out and say, “I have prepared for you the best wine and cakes” or whatever. Otherwise I will say, “I wish to know what I may pay you in return for this great service.”

This is the moment the spirit may reject this contract. If they have heard what you want and aren’t interested in helping, they’ll make it known to you and either leave immediately or wait for you to say goodbye. Sometimes your first offering wasn’t what they were looking for and that “hold up” feeling you are experiencing could just be the spirit looking for something else. If you get this “woah pause” feeling, try asking the spirit if it prefers a different payment and go from there.

Spirits are sometimes quite clear in what they want in terms of offerings and will tell me immediately, perhaps through a vision of what they want to occur, or maybe through words. Other spirits are a little more reserved and want to know their options; obviously I can’t offer everything, so what’s on the table?

NEGOTIATE In general we settle what the payment is quite quickly. Then comes the negotiation! You are in a business deal. Unless you’re working with some high level systems that tell you otherwise, never give the entire payment up front. If I expect this task to be performed quickly, in a matter of days or a week or two, I say I will give a small offering now to thank them for their arrival, and the full payment will be delivered when the task has been complete. Spirits so far have not had a problem with this. Sometimes I feel reservation as the spirit thinks it through. Don’t worry if you get “pause” emotions or messages like this. You are communicating with another being. Give them space to think.

If you’re asking for something that will take a while to manifest, work out a payment plan. “I propose that I will give you a portion of this payment every time I see X manifest. Is that agreeable to you?” and let them respond. Most spirits I work with tend to prefer simpler arrangements. They will tell you what they can deliver, and expect fair pay for it. A spirit may request payment on a time table (such as partial payment once a week) and I find this to be an alright deal as long as I see results manifesting. Like put your foot down. You are expecting something out of this… you are paying for a job to be done.

Talk about what might happen if the job is not done. In general I just consider all terms to be broken and we walk away. Don’t go in to punishment land. If the spirit fails to uphold their end of the job, their payment is denied. Walk away. On the other hand, if they do the job and you don’t pay…. that’s a whole other ball game. PAY THE SPIRITS. Like omg don’t even go there.

Once the payment has been agreed on, and the payment method has been agreed on, I proceed to the “handshake deal.”

BROKERING THE DEAL No need to sign contracts in blood. You can, however, have a written contract which I think is a great idea, especially for longer “jobs”. Write out the terms clearly. Sign your magical name, then ask the spirit to put its energetic imprint on the page as a symbol of your deal. I rarely bother to do this but it may be preferable for some people.

Generally, I just say, “I am Crann, offering you X and Y payment to help me get my credit card paid by June. I will pay you in full once the job is complete in June. Do you accept this agreement?”

I will then get a word of “yes” or “I agree”, or a vision of a handshake or some other symbol which means “we are in a contract”, or an emotion of acceptance.

SAYING GOODBYE Once the deal is done I often light a candle and incense in honor of the deal agreed upon. I ask the spirit to stay and enjoy the incense as long as it wishes to, which usually is not long. I usually ground out right away by cooking, watching television, and talking to friends.

MONITORING THE DEAL I will keep an eye on things and make sure it all seems to be going according to plan. If it’s an “easy” deal I generally expect to see results immediately; within the day or so. If it’s a big working with big goals I would not be surprised if I had to wait many days or even a period of weeks before I see the results I desire. However, in my opinion there should be signs your spirit agreement is working out. If you make an agreement with a spirit and within a week or two nothing is really happening, there is a possibility that spirit was taking advantage of you or something in your contract imploded.

PAYING THE SPIRIT When the correct time(s) come I will do a small ritual to give payment, partial (according to a ‘payment plan’) or whole, to the spirit. I will typically use a candle as a monument to the occasion as well as pleasing incense. If it is a physical offering I will present it and call the spirit and ask it to partake of its payment. If it is a nonphysical offering I will contact the spirit and tell them I am going to begin my end of the payment, and they can expect to see my end of the deal be performed shortly.

Once you believe you have fully paid the spirit, contact the spirit again and ensure that everything is even-Steven. If it is a physical offering ask them, “are you satisfied and pleased with this agreed upon payment?” Don’t let a spirit weasel you in to even greater payments; if you provided what you agreed upon, you are good. If it is a nonphysical offering I believe it’s good to check in just to make sure there is no misunderstanding of what you are supposed to provide, and to ensure that you are carrying out your payment as you need to.

Here’s a word of advice: Don’t forget to pay them. If you are neuroatypical like me, if you forget things, if you get distracted, if you cannot GUARANTEE you will give the payment, don’t enter in to contracts. Use alerts on your phone, journals, calendars, written contracts, whatever you need to do to remember. But if you are at risk of not remembering, don’t make deals.

BITS AND BOBS There is a fine line when it comes to working with spirits that make you feel uncomfortable. Sometimes a being is just so powerful that our little instincts go AHHHHHH and that’s not necessarily negative. But then sometimes, the spirit does mean us malicious intent and the feelings can be similar. In general I would just advise people to work with spirits that do not give them any feelings of discomfort; many of these spirits exists, and there are times to work with more intimidating spirits up ahead :)

You do not need the MOST POWERFUL ULTRA MEGA SPIRIT to get the job done. The more powerful a spirit is, the more you will have to pay it, and the more experience you will need to manage your encounters with it so you remain safe (this doesn’t even mean negative entities… encountering a huge power wave from a positive entity is something you have to know how to control and handle. I have almost passed out from encountering powerful, positive energies.)

Think about nature. Do you need a problem swept away? Ask a stream spirit. Do you need something burned away? Ask a fire elemental. Do you need something glamoured? Ask a fae. Don’t start with encyclopedias of powerful, named spirits. Start small and local :)

If you need magic done, make a deal. But in general it’s really polite and positive and just a good thing to befriend spirits before you ask them for help. This is in my opinion only!!!! For example I have good connections with many species of magical plant spirits. I am known to them and they are known to me, and in the past some have state they will help me when I need it. If you are a stranger knocking on a door a spirit may help you for pay, but if you are knocking on a friend’s door in need, imagine how much better they may care for you and see your needs are met. This is also why it’s important to give back as much as you can. Take care of the spirit world and nature when you can, and be polite and respectful as often as you can. The spirit world really does take notice.

calling gentile allies

I’ve seen multiple posts on my dash just today about the JCC bomb threats and how they’re affecting the Jewish community, and I thought of an idea that gentile allies can help to alleviate some of the heightened anxiety and isolation that a lot of people are feeling right now. Raising awareness is great, but you know what’s also great? Getting to know your neighbors.

So here’s an idea: if you aren’t Jewish, look up whether there is a JCC or synagogue near you. Then keep an eye out for it in local and national news. If you see that it has received threats recently, take a few minutes out of your day and fill out a postcard or a card, and send it to the main office.

I want to emphasize that it’s best if you focus on local institutions rather than ones that are in another state, because it makes it much more personal. The anonymity of the recent threats is one of the reasons they cause so much fear; no one knows if it’s from someone across the street or across the country. Know that there’s someone nearby who is on your side can help balance out that anxiety. I also think cards are better than, say, phone calls, because it strikes me as potentially nerve-wracking if synagogues and JCCs end up with a rash of unexpected calls after getting a phoned-in bomb threat. And cards are very tangible; you can keep them in the office, put them on a bulletin board, point to them when people are having doubts about whether their community cares.

As for what to include in your message, you can really say anything you want in support and solidarity, but here are some things that might be especially nice for them to hear:

  • “Shabbat Shalom!” (if you think the letter will arrive on a Thursday or Friday; this is the Hebrew for “a peaceful Sabbath,” the traditional greeting in many communities)
  • “Happy Purim” or “Chag sameach!” (Purim is a holiday, happening Saturday March 11 and Sunday March 12 this year–in general, look up a Hebrew calendar and see if there’s a holiday around the time you’re sending the letter. Tisha B’Av and Yom Kippur are “the ones you can’t say Happy [holiday] on.”)
  • some communities are holding rallies after receiving threats–I know there was one in Springfield, MA–so if your community did, and you attended, definitely mention that!
  • “I am a member of [faith organization], and I think it is important for us to stand with you in these times. My organization has participated/hopes to participate in multifaith activities with the Jewish community.”
  • “I have a friend who went to school at her JCC and she always spoke about how much it meant to her, so I want to show my support.”/“My child has a classmate who attends your programs, and they were very concerned about making sure their friend felt safe.”
  • “I read an article your president wrote in the paper, or I heard about a community-wide event that you lead recently. It sounded great and in the future I hope to engage more with my Jewish friends and neighbors.”
  • ***nothing proselytize-y and nothing political beyond the immediate issue. there’s no need to bring Jesus or Israel into this conversation.***

Obviously there’s more to do beyond this. Educate yourself about antisemitism. Combat it in YOUR OWN SPACES, not just when it comes from your enemies. Show up to events organized by Jewish activists. Show up to multifaith events even if they’re not activist spaces–if your local synagogue is pairing up with a church or a mosque/masjid to run a toy drive, watch a movie, eat pancakes, whatever, grab a friend, find someone new, and introduce yourself.

But still, these things can be difficult. They can require spoons, time, transportation, etc. Writing a postcard only requires a writing surface, a writing utensil, a stamp, and two minutes of your time,  and it, too, helps build your community. Even if you don’t have a local Jewish org to support, please reblog and share the ahavah.

Tips for Beginners

When typing this title, my phone autocorrected it to “Tips for Whiners” which is hilarious given the circumstances surrounding this post. However, my conscience got the best of me and I decided to title it differently even though there was peer pressure for the original title. However, not all beginners are whiners (by far) and I figured it wasn’t fair to lump people into a group. Plus, this post is meant to be far more informative and encouraging than it is critical and teasing.

New writers are always looking for help and tools to use to get their writing “out there,” wherever that is. They want to build their audience, which means gaining followers and notes on posts. They seek out help, work on their blogs, and write a lot.

However, some new writers fall into a trap of jealousy and complaining. They become frustrated, then turn their frustration into jealousy. They whine about not getting notes and followers, they complain about blogging cliques and unfair treatment, and they adopt an attitude of “Woe is me. The blogosphere is against me.”

This post is meant to be helpful to each group by providing both useful tips and reality checks. At no point do I actually mean to be hateful. Am I sassy, though? Yes. You can stop reading this post at any time, too. You can also take what works for you and throw out the rest. Nothing here is a blanket statement.

But let’s just get on with it. ( And it is a long one)

Hi Hi! I've been interested in secular witchcraft for a long time, but i'm finally starting to stop just researching, and I want to try and start practicing! I've collected a bunch of resources, but what are some of the first things you'd suggest picking up from the store? Candles, herbs, oils, etc? Also, any beginner posts you could link me to would be wonderful. I'm all ears! Have a wonderful day <3

Hey, congrats on deciding to practice and doing your research! Are you excited? Nervous? Enjoying what you’ve seen so far? Is Tumblr your primary resource? :)

I wanna learn so much from new witches omg. (There’s irony in there.)

Well, it honestly depends on what you wanna do and use yourself. Because personally, I picked up a few of each - I got some tealights from WalMart, bought some cheap incense from somewhere else, picked up some dried herbs from the grocery store that I didn’t already have in the kitchen, and found like five or six crystals I liked from Green Earth. I spent maybe like twenty bucks. That was my beginner’s witch kit.

But, again, it all comes down to what you want to use. Are you more interested in working with candles in magic? Candle magic *is* a really easy but effective method of magic, and candles are everywhere, and really cheap. Most spells use candles in them, not necessarily as the focal point of the spell, but they also do wonders for boosting energies. A bag of 100 tea lights goes a long way in witchcraft. Color correspondences can help, but isn’t necessarily required.

Or maybe crystals are where you wanna go. Crystals have amazing energy, but are a bit more on the pricey side. It can also be hard for people who don’t know a lot about them to tell them apart - the “danger” in this is being swindled by people claiming their crystals are something they’re not. Doesn’t mean they won’t work for their “declared” intent, necessarily, but it means you just dropped a lot of money on something worth a tenth of that.

That doesn’t mean it isn’t worthwhile to work with them, though. Because they’re an amazing tool, really - you just gotta do some more research, and be confident in where you’re buying from. Finding a reliable dealer with decent prices is where it’s at. But then, once you’ve got some crystals, they’re really versatile. They can be used on their own, or in conjunction with other spells, put them in jars and sachets, or in poppets, make grids, use them to charge other things, just stick like ten of them in your pockets - boom, witchcraft.

Oils aren’t something I necessarily recommend, to be honest. Not because they aren’t useful, because they are, just like any other tool can be (just gotta know how to use them). I just don’t know a lot about essential oils. xD If that is the area you wanna go in, however, it’s worthwhile to know that you’re gonna want to do some more research on the topic, and be wary of any allergies you may have, and for the love of god don’t put a crapton of pure oil straight on your skin.

Herbs is a little bit of a tricky area too, especially when using them as medicine. It requires a lot of research and safety if you plan on ingesting herbs for actual remedial purposes. If you just want to use dried herbs in, like, jars and spell bags, it isn’t nearly as bad, but you still want to keep an eye out for any poisonous / toxic plants and allergies. The stuff you can get pre-dried from grocery stores and dollar stores are honestly enough in most cases, and there’s lots of substitutes for more expensive or exotic plants, depending on intent.

If you wanna grow your own herbs too, that’s an option, but another area I don’t know a lot about, so I can’t give you any more advice on that besides do some more research. (It seriously never ends, so I hope you like studying.)

I guess this sort of answers your questions, but not really in the way you wanted. So, long story short, what you pick up depends on what and how you want to practice. However, I’ll give you a list of items I would recommend, purely based on my own craft, but I feel they’re pretty good staples to have all around.

  • candles - versatile as all hell; can be used on their own or in any other spell; bags of white tea lights are super cheap and easy to find; worry about colors later; scents can be used as correspondences as well but don’t hinder in any way
    • also, if you can’t have open flames for whatever reason, they have LED / battery powered candles in some dollar stores now; not to mention, tech magic?!
  • matches - they smell nice, and can light candles; suuuper cheap, but in bulk; unless you’re allergic to sulphur, then just a lighter will work
  • herbs - dried herbs from the grocery store seriously do the trick just as well as fresh / organic stuff; Bulk Barn / Barrel has a lot of awesome stuff for super cheap too; start off with just a few general / all-purpose ones, and then add to your collection as you go along; it starts to build up over time, trust me
    • sea salt - cleansing and protection; can be used as a base for most herbal mixtures
    • rosemary - considered a substitute for most other herbs
    • basil - has like a shit ton of correspondences
    • cinnamon is useful to have too
    • if you wanna curse, pepper flakes, paprika, or cayanne pepper should do the trick
  • jars - do I even need to explain?; dollar store, man; even thrift stores have some pretty amazing and cool looking bottles and stuff
  • notebooks - not something necessarily overly witchy, but more so to write down what you learn; trust me, you’ll wanna do that, especially with correspondences; also, sigils
    • also, though, keeping a blog can be a great way to have a magical book; can be password detected / kept secret; tags are useful for organiazation; and then you have us assholes in the community to hang out with too xD
    • writing utensils are also kinda required to, you know, write in books; black Sharpies are useful for actually drawing on stuff - candles, sachets, etc.; good for sigil work
  • scrap fabric - but some cool patterns from thrift stores or whatever; useful for making sachets and poppets
    • sealable plastic bags can do in a pinch though, really; also can be drawn on with Sharpie for easy sigil application
  • string / thread - tie up bags, herb bundles; make sachets and poppets; also useful for bindings, and that’s a good skill to know
  • mini sewing kit - super useful to have in general, and all parts of it can be used for something, somewhere
  • tea bags - seriously, tea has magical properties too; super discreet; and easy as hell; play around with different flavors for intents
  • crystals - clear quartz is super cheap and all-purpose; buy like five of them and just use them over and over; again, another thing it might be useful to have like three or four basic ones and then build your collection over time; that’s how most of us get our arsenal of supplies
    • clear quartz - substitutes for any other crystal
    • amethyst - super cheap and easy to find; variant of quartz; good for sleep and peace and divination; also purple
    • tiger’s eye - I’m biased because this is my favorite crystal; good for protection and courage; did I mention it’s awesome to look at?
  • incense - not necessarily required, but I like to have it; smells nice, useful; so many scents; can be found pretty cheap all over too
    • again, if you can’t have open flames in your place, you can try those wax melters; definitely pricier, but versatile for magic as well; and I mean, they just smell, so, good; my mom has one with like sugar cookie wax cubes; and I come home and think she’s baking, and I get super excited; but it’s a lie

So, yeah, that’s my list, and reasons for what I wrote. That’s just some ideas to get you started. If you choose a path that doesn’t need those things in them, obviously don’t bother then. And depending on what “type of magic” you wanna do, your basic supply list might be very different. For instance, a sea witch probably won’t care so much about kitchen herbs, and stock up on sand and seaweed, sea shells and salt water.

Since you asked for beginner’s posts, too, you can have my whole list:

I did it! I made a post that wasn’t mostly links! :o Anyway, sorry for my smartass mouth, I was having fun with this. I hope you enjoyed reading, and I hope it gave you some ideas, and helped you out! Good luck! And if you need any more clarification or have more questions, you know where to find me. :D

HOW TO ROLEPLAY GANGS AND EX OR CURRENT GANG MEMBERS

this guide will teach you the ins and outs of realistic gangs, roleplaying gang members, and how all of that works. almost all gang roleplays i’ve seen are so inaccurate, glamorized and romanticized. movies are not realistic. even if it isn’t a gang rp - a gang related character could be interesting in any sort of character development plot. so here we go –

Please read if you are in BBCSherlock Fandom whether you are into Sherlock ARG theories or not - another perspective.

Okay, I have been at work all day but last night I had a discussion with someone who runs a blog about ARGs and it was very helpful. He may be reading this, I don’t know but if so, thanks - not naming so he doesn’t get spammed with questions. I will be paraphrasing from the conversation we had.

From his perspective, A Sherlock - The Lost Special ARG is happening right now whether it is BBC official or not. A fan-run ARG is still an ARG. We are playing something even if it is just amongst ourselves.

It could be something well organized or it could be poorly designed but either way, it still “exists” so maybe the shaming/calling out people who believe in playing it can stop.

However, he also said that when games leave too much ambiguity and room for massive faulty leaps in logic and that goes unchecked, that’s not a well designed game, games where it isn’t clear if they are happening can be harmful for folks who struggle with reality in the first place and can also leave people (like random sitemasters, twitter accounts, etc…) open to harassment if they accidentally get caught up in it. So this is something to consider if the current level of ambiguity goes on for more than just the first few weeks. It could be a “real” game, just not a very good one.

People not interested in playing, reading ARG stuff can stop reading now if you want - just wanted those concerned/annoyed with the whole thing to consider this perspective.

So now here is what we have to consider -
Is there a cohesive fan-run ARG happening? What is really a part of it? What is actually gamejackers or trolls?

-the lost special instagram?

-the lost special troll page?

-The “Contact” Twitters/The “Contact” accounts here on Tumblr?

-The “moles”/anons who send coded messages?

-What else might be? (looking for replies here)

If it is an official BBC Sanctioned game there are obviously a lot more things to consider - that can be a separate post if anyone wants to make it but I think most of us already know what pages/accounts/etc… would be the first places to be looking for clues since we have already been doing that the whole time.

Additionally, Once in the ARG mentality we find ourselves wondering about every unusual thing we come across, any site that seems strange or account that reminds us of Sherlock. These things are certainly worth considering but with caution.

One question he said everyone should ask - as a general tip for those new to playing - is “If this thing is *not* part of the game, what is the risk?” are you putting yourself in physical danger? Giving out personal information? Identity theft risk? Throwing money away or leaving your credit card open to fraudulent charges? And so on.

Another thing to consider is tempering your expectations. Which is to say, would you still be interested in playing if it isn’t an official game that actually culminates in a Lost Special/4th episode? In other words are you cool with the real ARG being the friends we made along the way? I don’t mean to take sides one way or another but it is a good question to ask yourself because it may affect the way you approach things.

I think these are important things to consider so I would appreciate a reblog/tag if you have followers who post in the sherlock arg tag or if you have followers who speak out against it/have concerns.
Also, if reblogging, totally feel free to TL; DR it for your followers, I’m not great at brevity. Thanks

Semiotics in Fandom Texts

A brief lesson on media decoding for the Check Please! Fandom

Semiotics is the study of signs/symbols and their use/interpretation. It’s basically how is meaning is created and expressed. Stuart Hall, notably, had a preferred reading theory.

There’s encoding and decoding in all media. The content creator (an artist, journalist, etc) makes a piece with an intended meaning. They encode a message into their work. It’s the job of the audience to take that piece and decode its meaning.

 Now, it’s not often that straight forward. It’s not just like you have an audio jack straight from the brain of the creator into your mind so you can download their exact intended message. You have things like ethnic, racial, regional and religious backgrounds. You have how old you are, the generation you were raised in, and  the kind of education (formal or otherwise) that you’ve received. Whether you’re nuerotypical or allisitic sometimes comes into play. What privileges, or lack thereof,  and experiences you carry with you heavily impact how you interpret media. And even when a creator comes out and says “this is exactly the lens through which I want you to see this piece,” that can still be ignored or disregarded.

Hall broke down how an audience decodes meaning into three major categories:

Dominant reading- you’ve hit the nail on the head. This is exactly how the creator intended you to consume this media. You figured out the message and have accepted it as such.

Negotiated reading - you’ve taken the message, and there are parts of it that you accept. You’re negotiating your bias with how much you believe that the intended message is indeed the message. Perhaps you see how it could be interpreted differently, but you’ve chosen to accept your interpretation as THE message.

Oppositional reading - you’ve basically rejected the entire message in favor of something more aligned with your beliefs. This is like when global warning deniers refuse to look at facts and figures because they’ve been conditioned to believe that “the science is still inconclusive”. (just one example, more on this later)

Typically, the way people read media messages is more on a spectrum. So I’ll be using qualifying terms such as “more”, “less”, “closer to” and “further from” in order to describe placement on this spectrum.

anonymous asked:

This sounds weird but could you give some advice to other fanfiction writers? You're really good. 💕

oh my goooooooood where are all you lovely people coming from tonight??

alrighty, let’s give this a go!

Fanfic Tips:

Character Motivation

This is my biggest thing. You should always, at any given moment, know what every character in a scene wants. What they want is going to dictate how they act and react to things. Without characters wanting things, nobody ever does anything, and your fic doesn’t exist.

When characters have different motivations and have to come together, magic happens. And as characters develop, their motivations change.

Great example?

what Luke wants (general motivation: freedom -> The Right Thing): to get off his uncle’s farm and get to go be with his friends at the academy -> to be a Jedi and fight for the rebellion -> to learn more but also keep his friends safe -> to redeem his father.

what Leia wants (general motivation: fight Empire): to get the Death Star plans to the rebel base and find Obi-Wan Kenobi -> to not be in the Empire’s clutches -> to blow up the Death star -> to not be in the Empire’s clutches -> to save Han -> to blow up the other Death Star

what Han wants (general motivation: self-preservation -> protect friends): to get his hands on some money so that he doesn’t get killed by a mob boss -> to escape the empire -> to help the rebellion/keep his friends safe

(Obi-Wan, meanwhile, pretty much just wants to keep Luke safe, and help the rebellion if he can.)

All different, all interweaving, most of them changing as the characters are influenced by others, and learn and grow.

So yeah. You gotta know this shit about your characters - it’s crucial.

Tip? If you’re unsure about whether you know what they want, try making a list of all the important characters in your fic (and then potentially do this with most scenes, briefly) and work out what their main motivation/what they want is. Just…in general. In life. And then, once you’re in a scene, see how this plays into what they want in this exact moment, and how they’re going to go about trying to get it.

Know Your Source Material

You don’t have to be an expert in your fandom to write fanfic, but the more you know, the easier it is to move through the world and build a story, because you know where you’re going and how things work. Wikis are your friend, especially when working in big universes like DW or SW. (Like, hell, I might know a lot about DW, and feel very comfortable in that universe, but I still find myself on the TARDIS Index File all the time, checking little random things. It’s a damn godsend, and every fandom has a wiki.)

Your Characters Are Just People

Make sure you let your characters fuck up once in a while. They’re fallible beings, they’re going to make rash decisions that backfire, they’re going to try something and fail, they’re going to say the wrong thing and piss somebody off. They’re going to maybe mean well but fuck up majorly, and that’s okay, that’s good. Let them apologise, let them learn from the consequences, let the healing of a wound in a relationship bring the people closer together.

And yes, this still goes for characters that almost never do anything wrong, or are all ‘holier than thou’. They are still gonna go about some things the wrong way.

Planning Is Good, But Be Flexible

In my experience, while some people lean heavily towards one or the other, appropriate use of planning or gardening can depend heavily on what kind of story you’re writing.

When writing more action based storylines, I’ve found it’s very easy to get stuck in the middle of them - you get the characters into a mess and get stuck for a month not knowing how to get them out. This is where planning tends to be handy. A good way of not getting stuck is to plan it all out in little increments, so there’s not too much room to get stuck. Also, plotting from the back. Start at the end. Works really well a lot of the time.

If planning works for you, plan as much as you want. But, always, always, be ready to change something, if you try a bit of gardening and end up somewhere different to where you expected to be. Always follow what feels right over sticking with a plan.

Gardening aka Let The Characters Take The Lead

…this is fanfic. Let’s be honest, we know that most of it is juicy interpersonal stuff. So while planning is all well and good, I think gardening works a lot better. When writing the maths teacher fic, I went in pretty much blind. I had a couple of vague ideas of what I wanted to achieve, but I also wanted the relationship I was developing to be as absolutely genuine/believable as possible (which, according to the general consensus, it is).

The way to do that?

Don’t try and force things between the characters. Sometimes you might start a scene with a particular moment in mind, and that’s all good, but for me personally, I’ve found that you tend to get results that are more organic by simply going into a scene blind and seeing what the characters do. You should still, hopefully, have an idea of what you want to happen, but the characters and their ways of reacting to things should always come first.

Seriously, if you’ve got the characterisation down, they’ll do the hard work for you.

Maybe they’ll get to where you wanted, maybe they won’t. But it’s actually a really fun ride, doing it this way. When are they going to kiss? When are they going to fuck? Who knows? Not me! How could I know, when I haven’t yet seen/created the unique and particular path of events that gets them to that point?

Like, I went into a chapter once, intending for a child character to kill a guy. But when it came to writing the scene, I just wasn’t quite sure if she would actually do it, even with her evil psychopathic mother egging her on. So I gave the kid the reins/gun, and sat back to see what happened. She ended up shooting him non-fatally, only for him to be killed by the vaguely disappointed mother instead. I was like “oh, okay, cool, that works”.

Garden. Have fun letting the characters surprise you!

Dialogue

Dialogue is the make or break of a story, really. And the trick to dialogue is to make it authentic, and give the characters their own unique voices.

First one is simple. Make sure the dialogue sounds like how people actually talk. Anyone who has read any of my fics knows that I use “-” and “…” and “um” and “uh” liberally. That’s because humans, modern day ones at least, aren’t always the most eloquent of creatures. We mumble and say the wrong thing, or get distracted halfway through, or forget what we were going to say, and hesitate when we’re unsure (even posh, eloquent characters, they just do it less and use bigger words in between). Let the characters do this.

Saying the dialogue out loud will help a lot. Also, you could also try verbally paraphrasing a conversation from the fic to a friend, and you’ll likely find some of the dialogue coming out a lot more casually/authentically.

As for giving the characters their own unique voices, that’s just down to knowing your canon and being in tune with the characters, which is a crucial thing but unfortunately not something I can really give advice on, you’ve gotta get those in your head on your own.

Details Matter

Different details matter in different stories. And getting them wrong can really break the immersion.

If you’re writing characters that come from a different place to you, make sure you know how people from that place talk! Americans, don’t you fucking dare have a British character call somebody ‘Mom’, it breaks the immersion completely and makes me want to punch something. It’s ‘Mum’, for anyone from UK/Aus/NZ. And same with Brits writing American characters, but the other way around. This goes for any UK/US/Aus/NZ/Canada language difference. Find out what your character calls things.

Working details out can seem unnecessary, or going over the top, but honestly, half the time you realise that you’ve gone and got something wrong, and next thing you know the entire plot has a gaping hole in it, or a character doesn’t know something they got told three months back, but you forgot about it.

Like, okay, I have a day by day plan of the timeline of the maths teacher fic (and, going forward, its general universe), because I was trying to weave in all this original material through the show canon (and now, write several stories/oneshot set at the same time within that verse, focused on different characters/things), and if I hadn’t done that, I would have royally fucked myself over multiple times.

I’m not saying everyone has to make a timeline that detailed, because for a lot of stories it wouldn’t be remotely necessary, but it was for this particular one.

But just details in general. Do your research, check that thing on the wiki, get specific with details about a character, even if they’re just a minor one (though maybe stick to just one or two details, in this case).

This kind of goes along with show, don’t tell. Like you could tell the readers blatantly that a character loves a thing, or you could talk about how they wearing clothing printed with the thing and have them jabbering on about it excitedly, you know?

Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need information!

Seek out people who are experts in something you need to know about. This might be kink (bless the friends I’ve made through fic in the last six months or so, who have helped me in this area), or something specific to their country’s society/culture/choice of words for a certain thing.

Also, if you’re trying to add diversity in your fics, and you hopefully should be, ask friends or people on Tumblr from within the group you’re trying to include to get information! Want to write a trans guy? Go find a trans guy to talk to about it! (I did this with a demigirl character recently, and got about four or five really helpful people more than happy to give me the info I was looking for, they were really excited about the prospect of demigirl characters existing at all.) It’s really easy to add in background diversity regardless of what fandom you’re writing for, and it can make a lot of difference to any readers who find themselves unexpectedly represented, even if only in a minor or one time character.

In Conclusion:

Know your characters, and what they want, and how they talk. Let them lead the story, because they’re why you’re here, and doing all this. Give them real and imperfect voices and qualities, and let them make mistakes and apologise.

And do your research, so you get the details right.

I hope this helped! Now, go forth and write!

(And have fun! That’s the other big rule. Do it out of love, make yourself laugh, just have fun with it!)

quick question: can u make that google doc public bc im interested

i-am-my-only-master

My google docs page is nothing but unorganized links, so I’ve taken the liberty to copy and paste everything here in a neat and orderly fashion:

Book Four

Zephyrita

  • Zephyrita is the now deleted tumblr of a former staffmember of the show. However, with the help of the handy wayback machine, all of the posts reblogged and made about Katara and Zuko originally being planned as well as info about book four can be found here

Zutara Endgame

Apparently, that piece of artwork was given out as a poster to everyone attended the official season 2 premiere in Korea. I’d sell every non-vital organ in my body for one of those posters.

Besides the self insert promotions, those are all the links I have with actual quotes or ‘evidence’ backing the claims up. I may make another post in the future with opinion analysis posts, but for now

Miraculous Ladybug multi-collab for ML artists!!

Okay, I recently thought of this neat idea to make a multi-collab with any ML artists.. but what for? Do you remember how in the opening they have all of the characters stacked up on one another? Here is a reference down below..

I want to recreate that but on one large page with a whole bunch of artists! ALSO VERY IMPORTANT!! I would like to mention that while discussing this with a couple of peeps we are not doing them in their civilian forms, but in their akumatized/superhero forms! (this does NOT include the new spoiler versions, only Ladybug are Chat Noir are superheros in this)

I figure that if any artists are interested in participating, PM me here on tumblr and tell me what character you want to do. If there is more than one person who wants to do a character, then the one who asks first gets the slot! Any artist can do this as long as they are fairly recent on here (still running as of the start of this year) and they message me that they want to do it along with the characters left they want to do! There is no specific date quite yet but I figure the due date will be around late may ;D

Here is the list of 25 + 3 other akuma that states which characters (in order of pic from left to right, bottom to top) are taken or still open! I will update this every so often so keep in check if you’re interested:

  1. Ladybug - taken by me, @themasquedfox

I tried to make this as organized as I could! As you can see there are 0 slots left!

Here are some general questions asked concerning this collab:

  • Do we have to use the same poses as the civilians do? Not at all, but it would definitely be preferred! If you do change it up, try to keep it simple. Please talk to me about it with some sample sketches for your idea if you do decide to do so (especially for the ones with characters together like alya/marinette and adrien/nino– see to me about it if you have these characters)
  • Can we do traditional art? Yes! You can do either traditional or digital!
  • If I am doing my piece traditional, how would I enter it in for the collab? Now I haven’t messed around with traditional art yet, but I’m pretty sure you can scan it in and place it as a transparent png. file, then send it to me! I hear Camscanner is also a pretty good scanner for that sort of thing.
  • What about the image type? In order for it piece to be accepted and assembled into the final pic, you must have your final piece a transparent png. file, that way it is easier to put on the canvas!
  • What is the due date to send it in the pieces? I haven’t settled on a certain date yet, but I’m thinking late may! I can only hope everyone gets it done earlier ^^;

Let me warn you that there may be some parts of your artwork covered up by others artwork based on the MLB opening character stack, so here is what I will say for you to do– I want you to post your piece of the collab on your blog and tag me in it so that I can provide a link to each individual piece from the full final collaboration that I am posting here. Please only watermark your artwork on your piece that you post on you blog and not the one you send me!

Thanks for checking this out and I hope you all have a wonderful day! I’m sure it will look lovely when it’s done <3 Message me if your interested and tell me what character you would like to do and feel free to ask me questions in the ask box too or through a PM! I look really forward to it!!

Quick shoutout to @the-bored-bookworm for helping me put this idea together! I seriously appreciate it!! OvO

Peter Hale x Reader

(NOT MY GIF)

*requested

Imagine: You have a major crush on Peter Hale, but, because of the Pack, you have to keep it a secret. One day, when he comes to your house injured, you are not able to hide it any more and comes clean to him.

Word Count: 1560

Being ordinarily human in a town crowded with supernatural creatures could be pretty boring sometimes; especially when all of your friends saw you as a fragile thing who could get broken if exposed to a high amount of shit. It was stupid, though. You were not a doll or anything related, for God’s sake; plus, even though fighting was not your thing, you could help on other stuff, like cleaning and bandaging the injured. Your aunt Melissa had taught you a lot of medical stuff, making you perfect for this task. However, bone killer Scott shut you out entirely, pledging you were too young to be on this life.

“As if I cared!” You snorted, angry. “Fucking Scott. Fucking rules. Fuck! Fuck!”

You threw, bored, the remote control on the couch’s corner, giving up on finding a decent show to take your mind away from the horrible powerless feeling you were experiencing. People needed your help and you were stuck at home, not able to do nothing about it. Why did you let people manipulate you like that?

“This calls for some booze”, you thought, standing up and heading to the kitchen. Sure, drinking would never solve entirely your problems, it’s not like it’s magic, however, you would at least calm down. Otherwise, it was very likely that you would rip Scott’s throat with your bare hands.

While trying to reach the highest shelf to grab the tequila bottle, you could not help but giggle, suddenly imagining what the pack would do if they discovered your secret crush on Peter Hale. Poor tiny human Y/N falling for a monster. It was ironic.

Finally getting hold of the bottle, you took a sip straight from it, not bothering to get a glass. The liquid went down burning and you smiled, enjoying the sensation. It was damn good, as usual.

Taking short steps, you went back to the living room, ready to put on some music and swirl your hips to it. All of that was probably due the alcohol excess, you were never a strong drinker. Yet, whilst you set up the stereo, you heard odd noises. As if someone was walking clumsily through wood sticks, breaking them with its feet.

“Shit.” You muttered, approaching the window and slyly looking through a brief shaft. There was nothing there. “I’m going crazy. That’s it.”

As soon as you returned to the room, you heard it again. This time, though, the door was swung open and a bleeding light brown haired man leant against the doorframe. What the hell was Peter doing here, at your place? Has he lost his mind?

“Hey, princess.” His voice was weak and he coughed, blood staining your carpet. “Care to help me a little?”

Your thoughts were mingled and confusing, but you propped up and went to help him. You pushed the door closed behind you and dragged him to the couch, staring deeply at his eyes. He seemed so defenseless!

“What happened?”

“Kate is back in town.”

“Kate as in Allison’s aunt?” Your eyes were widened as you quizzed him worried. “Fuck, wasn’t she dead? How did she come back?”

“As it seems, she was not killed. She was turned.”

“Into a werewolf?”

“Not quite, princess. We still have to figure out that part.” You could notice him struggling to talk and it shattered your heart the mere sight of your beloved hurt.

You always had a thing for bad boys, that was true; however, when Peter tagged along, you knew he was different. Sassy, slightly bossy… Heck, a perfect match for you. Still, you had to keep it a secret from him and everybody else. No one was allowed to know about your feelings, because it would turn out to be a major problem, considering how overprotective your cousin could get. Argh! You hated it. All of it.

“Y/N?”

“Yes.”

“Are you okay?”

“Sure I am.” Your reply came out with a fake laugh and a awkward gulp. “I think I should be asking you the same thing.”

“Uh, I’ll be okay. I only a need a shower.” He smirked tenderly, reaching to touch your right cheek. “Your heart is beating like crazy.”

Yes, this you could not hide or disguise. Seeing him hurt and in pain made your heartbeat go crazy. More than it would normally get when you were around him.

“I’m just…” You licked your lips, fighting to keep it together. “You scared the hell out of me.”

“Uh, I’m sorry.” Hale seemed disappointed, which made you bit your bottom lip. “You were the only person who came into my mind.”

“I’m flattered you considered me as an option.” A sarcastic remark slipped. “People tend to treat me like I’m made of glass.”

“What?” Peter sat up straight, wincing in pain by doing so. “You’re so tough, princess. So resilient. I bet you would make a badass werewolf.”

“Damn, this is so good to hear.” A smile curved your lips, for you were genuinely satisfied. “Now, enough with this. You need to shower and I’m going to find you clothes.”

“All right.” Hale nodded and tried to get on his feet. You could nearly feel his ache to walk and, once more, made your poor pumping organ skip a few beats. “Where is the bathroom?”

“I’ll take you there.”

Right then you realised how hard this situation was going to be. You cared too much about him to keep your shit under control for that long. It was a true challenge for your sanity; one you hoped to win.

Twenty minutes later, you found yourself lying lazily on your bed, staring at the white ceiling and pulling carelessly the soft fabric of your denim shorts while waiting for him to come out.

You took a deep breath in order to relax; yet, before it made any effect, the door was opened and a shirtless dripping water Peter walked through it, looking refreshed. This tore apart any chance of relaxation. Matter of fact, it made you more tensed up than ever.

As you sat upright, your gaze locked on him and you licked your lips, nervous. Hale must have found it pleasing to watch, for he chuckled, delighted, leaning to grasp the bundle of clothes that were by your side.

“Do you like what you see, princess?”

“I would appreciate if you call me by my name.” You retorted, looking away. “Why don’t you get dressed already?”

“Does my nudity bother you?”

“Yes. I mean, no. Why would it?”

He traced your jaw with his long slim fingers, getting you to look at him. Once you finally gave up and rose your chin, meeting his eyesight with yours, you found them soaked with tenderness. His blue eyes engulfed you like a high strong wave.

“Confess.”

“Huh?”

“Confess.” The raspy voice requested, his thumb stroking leisurely your cheekbone. “Tell me you love me, because I can hear your heartbeat from miles away.”

“Please, don’t make me do this.” You did not break the eye connection, no matter how quivery your voice were. “I don’t want to say it.”

“But you do love me.” He knelt in front of you. “God, you’re beautiful.”

“Why?”

“Why I find you beautiful? Because you are! So perfect and freaking gorgeous.”

“No.” You shook your head, giggling. “If you know how I feel, why do you want me to confess it?”

“Well, I wouldn’t want to make a fool of myself by falling for a girl who wasn’t in love with me as well.” A sinking feeling hit your stomach as you slowly understood what he was saying. “Oh, fuck! Did I scare you?”

“No, you didn’t.”

“So kiss me, please.” Peter asked, smoothly. “Go on, princess.”

A smug smirk enlightened your face and then you crashed your lips onto his, tasting all at once. He grasped your waist and pulled you closer, whilst you tugged his hair, wanting to release all the tension built up. It was so much better than you had imagined! His tongue fought with yours for dominance, the whole kiss heating up the place.

“Easy, tiger.” You whispered, splaying your hands on his chest as Hale was inches away from popping your shorts open. “I didn’t think you were this excited to be with me.”

“Ever since I laid my eyes on you, I knew you were going to be my doom.” Peter pecked your lips and continued. “The worst was that I didn’t care at all. I wanted you to crush me with your love. I wanted you to break my walls.”

“Did I?”

“Damn hell you did.” Both of you chuckled. “What about me? Did I crack Mrs. Y/N Y/L/N?”

“You know you did.” Your voice was soft. “I am hopelessly in love with you.”

Peter Hale hid his face on your neck, smiling against it, half surprised half glad by your statement. He stayed quiet for awhile, just sucking on your skin and leaving love bites behind. When he finally reached your ear, he could not help but mutter the words you wanted to hear:

“I love you too, princess.”

Your heart warmed up upon hearing that and you sealed your lips once more, realising how deep were your feelings towards each other. You two were meant to be. Definitely a love written on the stars.

Writing Romance

(Want more? Check out my Writing tag!)

There is the rather prevalent idea among writers that writing romance is hard. And for some people, maybe it is, but I would argue that it’s not difficult to write as much as it is easy to misinterpret.

In real life, relationships don’t have many straightforward rules besides a few obvious ones like “Trust is important” and “Don’t kill your spouse” and “99% of men are dense idiots who wouldn’t know how to read a signal if you tied them to a post and bashed them over the head with a rock, so just try asking him out on a date already”.

In the words of Tom Clancy, the difference between fiction and reality is that fiction has to make sense. What that essentially means is that writing fictional romance does have a few cut-and-dry rules, and that you can substitute “experience” with “logic” and get away with it, so you don’t need any prior relationship experience to understand how to write a decent romance. It can certainly help, but real life romance has a lot of factors that just wouldn’t fly in fiction.

AN: thank y’all for being so patient and understanding while waiting, and creds to @legendrarrymalfoy for the line about peanut butter and jelly

Warning: smut

Request: @sunshinelafayette -  Could you write an imagine where the reader is a stagehand for Hamilton and she and Daveed used to be together until they had a really nasty breakup so they avoid each another at all costs. One day she has to bring something to his dressing room, so she goes when she thinks he has already went home, but they run into one another and get into an argument and one thing leads to another and feelings come out and they have hot dirty angry/makeup sex on the couch of his dressing room? Thank you!

As usual, you were the first person to arrive at the theater. It was easier to get in and make sure that the props were organized when the place was empty. There was no one to distract you with pesky questions, no cheating exes to, well, be near you. It was just better this way. By now everyone knew. Word spread fast in theater. Even if it didn’t, the two of you had been all over each constantly until, suddenly, you weren’t. Anyone could have guessed. Nobody seemed entirely surprised. No one amongst the crew and decent majority of the cast, anyway.

Daveed was everything you weren’t; an excellent singer, rapper, and actor, charming, sexy as hell. It was a miracle you were with him for as long as you had. The two of you had had a few months of near complete bliss. There had been a few times where fans got to be a little too much for you to handle. There had been a few more times he had flirted when he thought you weren’t looking. But the sex after was phenomenal. It almost made up for it all. Almost. Then you caught him with a swing in his dressing room. He didn’t even seem to be sorry for doing it, just sorry for being caught. That’s really what pissed you off the most.

You stopped when you saw a jacket of his that had been your favorite next to a pile of his letters from the show. It also pissed you off that he was godawful at getting his props and personal shit back where it needed to be. Sometimes it seemed as though he would leave things lying around for the pure purpose of pissing you off. Not that you would ever confront him about it. You had managed to avoid him for a long while and didn’t plan on changing that. But, since no one else was there, you decided to run the jacket up to his dressing room after you put the letters away. You held it as far away from you as you could, which most certainly looked weird, but you didn’t care right now.

The door was wide open, which pissed you off a little more and you couldn’t figure exactly why. You were just going to go in, set the jacket on a chair, and leave, but last second something got the better of you. Without realizing it, the jacket was up to your face and you were taking deep, slow breaths. You hadn’t realized how much you missed his smell. It was still coconut. Apparently he never switched his shit after you started buying it.

You were too caught up in your thoughts to notice Daveed come in the room. “(Y/N)?”

“I- I was just-” you dropped the jacket like it had burned you.

“You were just looking through my shit,” Daveed leaned against the doorway. “I can see that.”

“I was cleaning and saw your jacket lying around. I was just bringing it up so it was out of the way. I wouldn’t look through your shit and you know it,” you said, a hard edge coming into your voice. He was in no place to get snarky with you. There was no way in hell you were going to put up with it.

Daveed just stood and looked you up and down for a minute. It felt like he was looking right through you. You had never felt so exposed in front of him or anyone else.

“Would you please excuse me?” you asked but didn’t move.

“No,” he challenged. “Don’t want you going through anyone else’s things.”

“I told you I wasn’t going through your things!” you yelled, exasperated, which only seemed to amuse him.

Daveed moved and shut the door quickly. When you stepped forward, he locked it. “Admit you were going through my shit.Then you can leave.”

“Why would I admit to something I. Didn’t. Do?” your voice grew low in warning. This, again, only seemed to amuse him.

Why was he being such an ass? Was he trying to piss you off? Because if he was, it was most certainly working. You knew he wasn’t joking, either. He would keep you in there until the last possible second. You considered forcing your way past him, but he was like twice your size and that was one battle lost before it even began. If you didn’t have so much pride, or as he called it, stubbornness, you would just say he had caught you looking through his things, but you both knew that that wasn’t going to happen. So he was just trying to piss you off.

You sighed and sprawled out on the couch. “We’re going to be here for a while.”

“Or I could just make you admit to what you did,” Daveed stepped closer to you.

“I’m never going to admit to something I didn’t do,” you closed your eyes. “I’ll just nap until you’re on. I already have my things done so you can keep me if you’re so keen to.”

You heard him grunt in response followed by a chair being pulled across the floor. The two of you were just going to wait it out, then. There was still a few hour before the show, so you decided to actually take a nap. You hadn’t been able to sleep all that well lately and now was as good a time as any to start catching up. It wasn’t long at all before you dozed off.

~~~~~
When you woke up, your legs were draped over Daveed’s lap. You sat up quickly.
“What the fuck? You have other places to sit in here,” you glared at him.
“Yeah, but this is the most comfortable,” he leaned back with his arms crossed behind his head, grinning like a jackass. “You weren’t out very long. Didn’t kill very much time.”
You let your head fall back and hit the wall. “Why are you so infuriating?”
“Some say my persistence is endearing. Even charming,” Daveed subtly moved his leg closer to yours.
“Yeah and who’s that?” you rolled your eyes. “The what’s-her-name who was filling in a few weeks ago? Just let me leave. I have things to do.”
“Just admit you were going through my shit and you can go,” he managed to spread out more on the couch. You were extremely aware that his leg was now just barely touching yours, but you didn’t move.
“I still have some of your sweatshirts at home, why would I-” you stopped yourself. Why the fuck would you tell him that? You couldn’t bare to see him before, let alone after this. “I never- I didn’t ever have the chance to get them back to you. I packed them in a box I just never-”
Daveed cut you off with a sudden, deep kiss. You leaned towards him despite every fiber of your being screaming against it. You knew it was wrong, but-
“Damn,” you let out a shuddering breath. That jackass grin was back, bringing your anger with it.
“Tell me you don’t want-” he rested his hand on your hip. “This. Me. Now. We have the time.”
“Maybe if you hadn’t fucked someone else,” you looked up at him slowly. You fucking hated his guts, but he always looked so stunning. He always knew exactly where to touch you. How to take your breath away.
“Forgive and forget. I’ll forgive you for looking through my things if you just admit to it,” Daveed brought up his other hand to play with a lock of your hair. “It’s only what? A couple of words?”
“I didn’t look through your fucking things, asshole,” you growled.
Daveed only laughed and kissed you again, sliding the hand on your hip to the small of your back. “You’re adorable when you’re angry,” he murmured against your lips with a smirk. He knew how much you hated it when people said shit like that. It made you feel stupid for being angry about something you had every right to be upset about. Of course, he would do that now.
“Shut up, asshole,” you kissed his jaw and he pulled you closer to him.
“How many times are you going to call me that?” Daveed asked, bemused.
You let your hand rest on his thigh. “As many times as I want. You’re a cheater who is holding me hostage over something I didn’t do. I think I could be calling you worse things.”
“You could. But we both know you won’t,” he kissed your neck while you fumbled with his fly. “You could have admitted what you did and been gone by now if you could just get over yourself.”
“I need to get over myself?” you traced a finger over the v of Daveed’s hip, slowly moving your hand back down.
“You and your pride are a more iconic duo than peanut butter and jelly,” he tsked.
You couldn’t keep yourself from snorting. “That was so bad. Just shut up and kiss me, asshole.”
Daveed nodded solemnly and kissed you roughly. He pushed you back quickly, not really seeming to care that your head slammed against the arm of the couch.
“Fucking-,” you grimaced. “Daveed-”
“Well yes, that’s hopefully what you’re about to be doing,” he moved over you. He had that asshole grin again. All you wanted was to get that stupid fucking smile off of his stupid fucking hot face. You slid his pants down as far as you could and started palming him through his boxers.
“We have to be quiet,” Daveed grunted.
You scoffed, “mhm.”  He hadn’t been very quiet with what’s-her-name. Not that you were bitter or anything.
You tugged at Daveed’s shirt with your free hand until he pulled it off. Even after everything, you still had to stop to take it all in.
“Take a picture,” he ground against your hand. “It lasts longer.”
“There’s already an overabundance of pictures of you,” you muttered. Daveed rolled his eyes and moved away to pull his pants off the rest of the way, then his boxers. You took your sweet time undressing in an attempt to piss him off. If nothing else, he was patient as shit, which bothered the hell out of you. You could push his buttons all day long with no success, but all it took was the smallest thing to set you off. Or the stupid fucking smirk that was slowly creeping back onto his face while he watched you slip your panties off.
“A picture will fucking last longer,” you mocked.
“No, no,” he stepped back over and slapped your ass. “I like to live in the heat of the moment, babe.”
“You don’t get to call me that anymore. Not after getting caught in the ‘heat of the moment’ and fucking another girl,” you stood a little taller.
Daveed watched you for a second before he pushed you back down onto the couch. “I get to call you whatever I want after you went through my shit,” he replied and dropped to his knees between your legs.
“I did not go through your things, assho-” you gasped as he forced two fingers into your slit. “Fuck you!”
“Not yet,” Daveed chuckled. He moved his hand slowly at first and then gradually grew faster. Just as you began to squirm, he angled his hand so that he could gingerly take your clit between his teeth and just barely flick his tongue over it. Your eyes rolled back into your head as he added a third finger.
“You’re an asshole,” you managed with hissing breaths. “And I di- I- I-”
You began to shake and you could tell that Daveed had started smirking again. As much as you really wanted to finish, you clenched your muscles and held it. You weren’t prepared to give him that satisfaction just yet. He flicked his tongue over your clit once more before pulling away. You sunk into the couch, still shaking, and closed your eyes. There was a crinkling noise to the front of you. At least he was smart enough to use a condom.
“If you’re going to be a hoe, be a safe hoe,” you laughed weakly.
Daveed hoisted your legs back onto the couch and moved back over you. “You’re so. Funny,” he spat and thrust his cock into you, punctuating each word with another thrust. “A real riot.”
You tried to respond but when you opened your mouth to, you couldn’t make a noise. It took a minute before you could reach your shaky arms around his neck. “Asshole,” you barely got out.
“Creep,” Daveed nipped hard at your neck. You had already begun shaking again, so you dug your nails into his skin in an attempt to hold out for as long as you could. He slowed and pulled nearly all the way out. This gave both of you the chance to catch your breath until he slammed his whole length into you.
“Fuck!” you screamed, your eyes rolling back as the shaking became uncontrollable. “Fuck, fuck, fu-”
Daveed clamped a hand tightly over your mouth to stop you from screaming as you finished. You let your muscles relax and you grew limp, but he only began to speed back up, his breathing growing more and more ragged. He slammed into your g spot over and over, each time it seemed to get harder and, infuriatingly, it felt better and better as well. White crept into the edges of your vision while Daveed kept at the same speed. He also kept a hand over your mouth, proving smart in at least that moment, as seconds later the shaking returned, a lengthy list of curses and insults with it.
Suddenly, it all stopped. Daveed finished and pulled completely away. “Admit you went through my things and I’ll finish you off,” he panted. You just lied there for a minute, trying to process everything. “Fine. You can do it yours-”
“Fine! I looked through your shit!” you rushed. “I did. You were right. Please.”
“What was that?” he asked with a shit-eating grin.
“You- you were right. Please,” you whimpered, defeated.
He moved back down between your legs. “Good girl,” he hummed and started massaging your clit, moving his thumb in slow, almost lazy circles. You were too exhausted and frustrated with yourself to ask or beg him to do anything, which he didn’t seem to notice. He smiled as if taunting you, but when he got no response, the smile faltered. “You okay?”
“I- I need to leave,” you sat up slowly and still got lightheaded. “I- things to do.”
“I think you just need to sit for a little while. We have plenty of time. You can take another nap, yeah?” Daveed rested his hand gently on your thigh.
You stared down at his hand. “Don’t want to sleep in work clothes. I dress up a little. The only one, but maybe people focus on that, instead of-” you shook your head. “I don’t know why.”
“I have extra clothes here. Don’t worry about it,” Daveed was already up and opening drawers to find something, so you just sunk back into the couch. He came back and sat you up way too soon for your liking. He helped you into your favorite Oakland shirts and a pair of sweatpants that might have actually been Oak’s. He found blankets from who-knows-where and laid one out over the couch and gestured for you to lay back down.
You hesitantly did as suggested, jumping a little when he covered you with the other blanket and watching him sit in a chair across from you. “Hey, asshole,” you called quietly.
“Yeah?” Daveed looked back over at you.
“Next time, don’t fuck your ex in the same spot you fucked the person you cheated on her with, yeah?”
The Great Gingerbread Bake-Off by mikkimouse (1/1 | 2,828 | PG13)
This was the seventh year Derek was competing in the gingerbread house competition at the Beacon Hills Holiday Festival, and he’d taken first place for three of those years. The other three years, Stiles had won, each time with even more ridiculous rude gestures and lewd winks in Derek’s direction.
Derek was bound and determined to take first place this year, and put a halt to Stiles’s current winning streak.
The Curve of Your Clavicle by WhoNatural (1/1 | 6,264 | PG13)
Derek isn’t an uptight person - seriously, for an alpha, he’s downright laid-back - but something about Stilinski makes him want to bare his teeth and grasp him by the scruff and bite.
No, not bite. That would be incredibly inappropriate, of course - and Derek plus the legal department are aware of that. Anyway, the point is, Stilinski needs to be kept in line.
Or, wherein Derek’s office rival might be the same person keeping him sane at night when the loneliness hits.
atom to atom by jadore_hale (2/2 | 8,983 | PG13)
“So, you’re telling me that you hate Derek so much that you wouldn’t leap at the chance to jump his bones?”
“That’s different!” Stiles cried.
“How exactly?”
“Because unfortunately for me, Derek’s hotter than the Earth’s mantle. All we need is one rough hate-fuck— Preferably in the chem lab, role-playing sexy chemist while he bends me over one of the tables—and I’ll get him out of my system. That’s as far as our relationship will ever go.”
Stiles glanced across the cafeteria to where Derek was still fail-eating his lunch and sighed so put out.
“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go make fun of Derek eating organic baby carrots.”
