but i liked this movie even though my motives for watching

I Thought You Hated Me.

Request from @brieflybigwonderland: Hi! Not sure if it is too soon to be asking for requests with you just starting this blog but you did an amazing job with the one I sent to your primary blog so I know you will with this one 😀 I’m thinking that reader works with The Avengers and she gets along with them all….apart from Bucky. They seem to hate each other and one night end up being the only ones in the gym, insults soon get thrown into the mix but then something changes and the situation gets more….hot? ❤ haha!

Note: So this is my first time writing any kind of smut so I hope I have done this request some kind of justice. I stopped before it got too long so if anyone wants more just let me know…I rather enjoyed writing this <3 I hope this isn’t too terrible!

Bucky Barnes x Reader

It had been a couple of years since you started working with S.H.I.E.L.D and The Avengers and you couldn’t have been happier. Each member of the team had become like your family and given that you had grown up without one for the majority of your childhood this meant a lot to you; there wasn’t a single person that you couldn’t confide in, spill your secrets to, even Tony Stark was occasionally a good listener….even if the conversation soon turned to him.

But then he wouldn’t be Tony if he didn’t boost his own ego.

Life couldn’t have been any better really. But then James ‘Bucky’ Barnes came along and it wasn’t long before things started to turn sour. Before you had spoken so much as a single word to him he had decided he didn’t like you – that much was clear by the death glare his sharp blue eyes had thrown in your direction the moment he stepped into the lobby of the building.

Yesterday I saw an anti ironpanther post on my dash and surprise, surprise, spite is a very good motivator for me to start writing again. So have some courting, and arc reactor issues and getting together, since that is what @ir0nshield asked for. Watch out for the cut since this is almost 3k words long.

Dealing with T’Challa after the whole mess with the Accords was easier than Tony would have thought.

Sure, T’Challa, and T’Chaka before him, had been for the Accords in the first place, but T’Challa was also housing the rogue Avengers and Tony wasn’t sure what to expect from him.

But T’Challa was nothing if not polite, and Tony tried to be the same in return. After all, T’Challa was a big force behind the Accords and Tony could need him in his corner if Ross suddenly decided that Tony belonged into the raft as well.

Tony was rubbing at the skin around the arc reactor, the cold always made it hurt, when T’Challa entered the conference room.

“Mr. Stark,” he greeted Tony and Tony almost flinched.

“Let’s stick to Tony, Mr. Stark was my father, King T’Challa,” he said and T’Challa thoughtfully tilted his head.

“Only if you can forget the king,” he gave back and Tony huffed.

“Nothing easier as that, Mufasa.” Tony wasn’t sure if the Lion King was a thing over in Wakanda, but going by the tilt to T’Challa’s mouth it definitely was.

“I think I am more Simba than Mufasa, wouldn’t you agree,” T’Challa said and proved Tony right.

“If you say so, Simba,” Tony replied with a smile and then stilled when T’Challa’s gaze fell onto his chest.

“Is it still hurting from the injury?” he asked and Tony forced himself to lower his hand.

He never liked it when the attention was on the arc reactor.

“Maybe. It just hurts sometimes,” he gave back, not willing to tell T’Challa that it was the injury and the cold and the reactor in general. He didn’t need to know that.

T’Challa obviously noticed Tony’s hesitation in talking about the reactor and thankfully dropped the matter.

They were talking about Rhodey and his recovery when the other members of the Accords came in and from then on it was only business with them.

Becoming Queer

When I was 8 I was obsessed with Disney’s Aladdin. Not just the original movie, but both of it’s poorly made sequels too. I watched them everyday after school while I drew pictures in our basement TV room, simultaneously fixated on their adventures and creating my own on paper.

I remember being absolutely in awe of how handsome Aladdin was, but also of the beauty of Princess Jasmine. They were the most attractive people I could ever imagine existing.

When I was 10 my mom gave me an American Girl book all about puberty and the female body. I only read through the whole thing once, but I left it close to my bed because of the one page I looked at nearly everyday.

It was one of the sections of the book on bodily changes throughout puberty– body hair, periods, etc. At the bottom of was a picture of several girls in front of a mirror, completely naked, to illustrate the different sizes and shapes of breasts. I was absolutely fascinated by these girls: the soft curves of their hips, their round and full breasts, the way their thighs came together. Despite their cartoonish nature, this was the closest I’d come to seeing a grown girl’s body. It was foreign and beautiful to me.

Somehow, I knew this wasn’t normal, so I always hid the book after I was done in case mom asked why I still had it.

When I was 12 I found my self distracted in classroom discussion circles looking at girls chests and lips and thighs. Every time I caught myself I’d immediately look down at my lap and blush. I’d learned by now that it wasn’t normal for girls to look at other girls like that, what it meant to be gay. But I’d eventually find my eyes wandering again, my thoughts focused on how beautiful one of my female classmates was.

I remember walking down the hallway one day mentally reciting “you can’t be a lesbian, you like boys… every girl must look at each other like this.”

When I was 13 one of the girls that I clung to during PE (because they were just as repulsed by physical exertion as I was) told us she was bisexual. This was the first time I’d been told someone could be attracted to boys and girls at the same time. It was confusing and enlightening at the same time.

I remember she put her arms around my shoulders once, during badminton week, her face inches from mine. It made me nervous, but in a way that I’d never felt before. My stomach had dropped, and I didn’t know why. It wasn’t like the fear I’d felt from scary movies and my dad yelling at me, but it wasn’t quite like when I felt exhilarated from riding a rollercoaster or binging on sugar with my friends… it was something in between, and entirely new.

I’d told my mom about it and she immediately wanted to call the principal and make sure the girl didn’t touch me like that again. That scared me, her reacting like that. I started acting repulsed by the girl afterwards, telling my friends she had flirted with me even though I wasn’t entirely sure she had, how weird it was and how weird she was.

Looking back, I probably wish that she had been flirting with me.

When I was 14 I was acquainted with the first queer couple I’d ever met. They were in theatre with me, and I’d been wanting them to start dating for months. At this point I’d stopped acting weirded out by gay people and claiming that bisexual people were “selfish and should just pick a side already.” I openly showed my support for gay people, citing my theatre friends of examples of how “normal” they could be.

I walked in on the couple in the dressing room one rehearsal, shocked to see them making out. I stood in the doorway a moment, then walked out without either of them seeing me.

I thought about their kiss for the whole day, wondering how their relationship worked, what it was like to date someone of the same gender as you. I was dating a boy at the time, my first boyfriend and the one that would create fear and an inability to trust for my entire high school career when he started abusing me. I wondered if this couple’s relationship could be anything like ours.

When I was 15 I joined Tumblr. I’d just moved from Michigan to Alabama, had my heart broken by my abusive boyfriend furthering the pain he was inflicting by cheating on me, and was just beginning to realize that I had an eating disorder with no idea how to feel about it or whether or not I wanted it to go away.Tumblr became a place for me to escape all this into “fandoms” and “fitblrs” and personal posts from strangers I didn’t know but whose lives intrigued me. It was on Tumblr that I first encountered the word “pansexual.” I was 16.

I was intrigued and slightly obsessed with the concept of it, pansexuality. I’d only just begun to learn about transgender and heard rumors of other genders outside of men and women, and being attracted to all of them or being “genderblind” seemed impossible, but incredible. I spent months randomly researching sexual orientation and transgender people before finally adopting the term as my own.

Though, it was only in my head that I claimed pansexuality as my own. I didn’t want to tell anyone… not because I was ashamed so much, I’d forgotten that stigma several years ago, but more because I was afraid that I only wanted to be pansexual, not that I actually was.

After all, if only ever been in relationships with boys at that point. How could I know if I was actually attracted to other genders if I’d never dated them?

When I was 17 I got my first crush on a girl. I didn’t recognize that that was my motive at the time, but I was constantly staring at her in the two classes we shared, payed special attention when she spoke, and the day she announced that she had a Tumblr I made it my goal to be a part of her life.

By winter we were best friends. By summer I’d begun to realize the extent of my feelings for her. The first time I got drunk at 19 I blurted out that I thought about making out with her all the time. I told her how I felt at 20, 3 years of pining later.

She told me she didn’t feel the same.

When I was 18 and in my first year of college, I binge watched all of Laci Green’s videos on YouTube, deciding that it was time I figured out how my body and how sex worked. Through her I found not only the courage to masturbate for the first time, but my first confrontation with “third genders.”

I obsessively studied nonbinary genders, claiming to just be interested in them, giving speeches and presentations on them for class, messaging nonbinary people to ask about their experiences. I came to accept that I identified with this term the summer of my sophomore year of college.

When I was 18 I also came out to my dad. I’d already come out to my close friends, sisters, and mother at this point– all giving me generally positive responses. This was not the case with my dad.

We were fighting in the kitchen, something that had become a regular thing since I’d started expressing my feminist and liberal beliefs. He was making homophobic comments and I guess I must of have been very clearly upset by this, because he asked, “do you have a problem with that?”

To which I responded, “Yeah, because I like girls, dad!”

My outburst led to two and a half years of him telling me that my identity was fake, a scheme to get attention, that all I believed was a result of my being brainwashed at college and my own self delusion. The full force my panic, bipolar disorder, and depression came out during this time. The first time I thought of killing myself was when he threatened to kick me out and cut me off from my sisters if I didn’t stop with this “feminazi LGBT bullshit.”

When I was 19 I started dating one of my best friend from high school– a boy, but pansexual like myself, I felt like this was the first queer relationship I’d been in.

He told me he didn’t want a monogamous relationship, that he identified as polyamorous– which I knew because this was one of the reasons his last relationships hadn’t worked out. Thinking I wouldn’t fall as desperately in love with him as I did, I agreed to an open relationship.

Two months into the relationship and much research and self reflection later, I’d come to accept that I was also polyamorous and I never wanted a monogamous relationship again.

When I was 20 a girl on Tumblr reblogged a set of selfies that I’d posted, exclaiming in the tags about how handsome I was. I took one look at her blog, saw the profile picture of her staring directly at the camera with intense blue eyes and an expression impossible to read, and immediately followed and messaged her my thanks.

We started messaging frequently, talking about such expansive and random things, things I’d never talked about with anyone. Soon we were messaging everyday and I began to realize how hard I was falling. I wanted her, I wanted her so badly.

I hadn’t had a crush on a girl that’d worked out in my favor and I was constantly pining for a girlfriend. I loved my boyfriend, I was still attracted to men and non-feminine genders, but I felt not only “too straight” to be queer at that point, but also like I was missing some sort of affection in my life that only a feminine partner could fill. And I was beginning to wonder if this girl was the person who could finally end my wanting.

The only problem with this girl was that she lived an ocean away from me, in Denmark to be specific. But my feelings became so strong that I couldn’t just be silent anymore: I told her I liked her.

She said she felt the same.

Today, March 2nd, 2017, Hayley Kiyoko released the music video for her single “Sleepover.” It wrecked me.

Hayley has become someone that I not only admire, but someone who makes me feel so validated in who I am. A mixed, Japanese American, queer girl in love with art and comfy clothing. Before Hayley, I’d never felt like there was anyone in the media who was even remotely like me. With great music and a connection I’d never felt in any other celebrity before, I became an avid fan. So naturally, when the video for “Sleepover” was released it only took me minutes to find it on YouTube and watch.

The music video was so much more than I could have anticipated, actualizing all my experiences as a queer feminine person, admiring from a far, living in my head with my fantasies and no hope of ever being able to experience them in reality. With this video I was thrown back into all the years I spent confused and afraid of how I felt and who I was, all the girls I wanted to be with but knew they couldn’t work out, or didn’t work out even when I tried. And as melancholy as these thoughts were at first, it pushed me to the realization:

I love who I’ve become. I love that I’m queer.

And despite how grueling the process of it all has been, I wouldn’t trade all that heartache for a normal life if I could. I wouldn’t give it all up to be the straight girl with no struggles or worries about who she loved as I once believed I would. Even with the pain that it had brought, becoming queer has made me the person I am today.

And I love that person, even if there are still rough edges to be smoothed, I am finally unafraid of who I am.

The Greatest Sin of the "The Last Airbender"

This has been in my drafts since forever, so I’m just going to post it.

Ok, Lake Logai, there is no movie in Ba Sing Se, blah blah blah…

Now that we have that out of the way…

While watching the movie that doesn’t really exist, I realized something. I don’t think the worst part of the movie is the shitty ass bending, the terrible action sequences, the bad editing, or the racebending. Sure, those are all pretty terrible and atrocious, and you can talk at length about how all those things suck, but there is one crime that overshadows all of these bad decisions, a crime so terrible that not even doing everything else right could save it. Ladies and gentlemen, the biggest crime of “The Last Airbender,” is that it lacks agency and nuance.

People just do things to get from point A, to point B, and you barely feel anything for the characters. Aang’s a whiny, emotionless little shit (wow, I can’t believe I just said that); Sokka is emotionless, humorless, and incredibly monotone (well, movie!Katara and movie!Aang are too but that’s besides the point); Katara is fucking annoying, and too busy narrating to actually have character; Iroh is way too serious; and while Zuko at least had the brooding part down, you don’t really feel bad for him the way you do for show Zuko.

And, as far as agency goes, the movie is completely lacking in it. I don’t want to sound like a dumbass here, but it’s exactly like watching a historical documentary that does nothing to show you why people did the things they did and why things happened. It just says “here are a few interesting facts, watch as I completely butcher everything by sucking the soul out of all your favorite characters.”

Everything seems to revolve around this emotionless world savior that ran away not because he was a 12 year old kid burdened by the responsibility of being the Avatar, but because he couldn’t have a family. And when he does come back, he’s barely trying to struggle with the consequences of his actions, and everyone begins to rally to his flag on the spot. Why? In the show, at least, they tried to say “hey, look, your actions have consequence,” “hey, we’re not going to rise up just because you’re the Avatar."

That’s what made the show so special. It showed consequence, it showed that these people had lives and identities. But somehow, M. Night Shyamalan managed to suck all that from the movie.

The writing is also, of course, terrible, way too wordy, and filled with needless narration and exposition. People just randomly say things without paying attention to their surroundings. What’s the deal?

At the same time, a bit of the writing could work, but Shyamalan ruins it by dropping lines at the worst time possible (”This was their practice area,” “The Firelord’s son.” I DON’T FUCKING CARE!).

That, and I don’t want to say "in the show” again, but when Shyamalan does use the lines from the show, or something similar to those lines he:

  1. Gives those lines to different characters which doesn’t make sense and robs the original characters of possible character development.
    1. Example: Iroh getting Aang’s lines about balance.
  2. Makes characters stupid by asking stupid ass questions
    1. I’m looking at you, Yue.
  3. Robs characters of their own agency and motive.
    1. For example, instead of Yue choosing to sacrifice herself because she feels like it’s her duty, she needs Iroh to tell her to do it.
    2. Prior to that, instead of Aang showing off how spiritually enlightened he is, his lines about the Moon and Ocean spirits bringing balance to everyone is given to Iroh. Which, although it make sense for him to say, still robs Aang of possible character development.Granted, he had little character to begin with.
    3. Aang getting Katara’s “Imprisoned” speech

It’s strange to watch this, and then see an interview that was made prior to this movie’s creation where Shyamalan sounds enthusiastic and knowledgeable about this world. What happened, Shyamalan? Apparently a lot of the changes were out of Shyamalan’s control, but I don’t really buy it due to how terrible this movie was. The writing, and timing was still awful.

That, and after watching enough of Nostalgia Critic’s M. Night reviews, you start to see a consistent pattern.

And I just want to point out that, if you watch the behind the scenes stuff, Noah Ringer does actually act like he could have been a good Aang.

So, what happened? I know he has never acted before, but still.Bad direction?

But, back on the topic of agency, there were just a lot of opportunities to have characters develop, interact, and grow. But instead everyone’s a stick in the mud. Take this deleted scene for example:

Ignoring the fact that there’s no bending for whatever reason (even though Yue already sacrificed herself), this would have been a great time for Aang to drop his “but I’m just one kid” line. Technically, it wouldn’t add much because, as I said, Aang’s character in this movie is basically cardboard, but at least it would give us the sense that he had doubts.

And, on top of that, all that, you have Katara seeing that Sokka is upset by Yue’s death (and the collar-grab was very out-of-character but that’s besides the point), and ignoring his feelings, before managing to calm him down by simply telling him to stop.

God, damn, people, show some emotion.

In the mean time, if you haven’t already, feel free to watch the Nostalgia Critic’s review of “The Last Airbender.”:

Victor Nikiforov Appreciation Post!!!

I just want to take a moment and talk about how much I love Victor Nikiforov and how he’s just such a refreshing character. I know everyone and their dog has done a post like this already but I’ve been crying over this lovable goof for months and this had been sitting in my drafts for too long now anyway and also I’m avoiding my textbooks AND THIS SORTA TURNED INTO A CHARACTER ANALYSIS I’M SORRY.

So as far back as the PV, there were assumptions flying around that Victor would end up being an antagonist of some sort. That either he was using Yuuri for his own gain, or was just straight up evil. Laughable now, of course, but the reason those rumors were prevalent was because we see it so often. How easy was it to think that Victor was “helping” Yuuri only to further his own goals in the end? We’ve seen this common mentor-betrays-student trope before and it’s no wonder that early on fans were afraid of this even as the show progressed. And honestly? This would have made for some great drama—for Victor to turn out to not be such a nice guy and for him to eventually become someone Yuuri had to defeat in competition. However the show did not go down that route at all. It turns out that yeah, Victor is actually just a really nice guy who cares a great deal about Yuuri and the people around him. He doesn’t show up in Hasetsu with any evil ulterior motives—he just wants to get to know Yuuri and help him take his skating to the next level, and maybe find inspiration (and love) along the way.

Also how could a man with a heart-shaped smile be evil???

Hi! I've seen you post a lot of wonder women stuff and wanted to know if you have any opinion on supporting the movie vs not because of gal gadot's stance towards israel? I've seen a few posts talking about how it's harmful that she is a zionist but I am not a Palestinian or Israeli and dont know how to feel about the movie. I very much want to support a female superhero movie and a female director, but at the same time dont want to support an actress with harmful views

So a little background: Gal Gadot is an Israeli citizen. Israel has a mandatory two year army service with their national army the IDF (Israel Defense Forces). Gadot did serve that army service. What the source of most people’s discomfort with her was an instagram post she made during the peak of the 2014 Israel-Gaza conflict. She posted a photo for Shabbat including the hashtags “We are right” and “Love IDF”. There was substantial backlash to the photo and the hashtags though as far as I know Gadot never addressed it.

There are lots of reasons to boycott movies. You could boycott the movie because it’s American and the U.S. is doing an incredible amount of things to destabilize the safety of the world right now, you could boycott it because you are vehemently opposed to Gal Gadot and what she said about Gaza. You could not watch it because you don’t like the way Gadot looks in boots. It’s a personal choice, and it’s up to you, I don’t care if people don’t see a movie for whatever reason. You don’t owe anyone your dollars. On the flip side it doesn’t make you a bad person to watch the movie either.

Everyone has their own line and for me, unless the movie has a major creative force (director/producer/main actors) that I know are violent criminals (think Polanski, Nate Parker, David O. Russell, Woody Allen and Mel Gibson) if I’m interested I’m going to see it. I’ve also given up arguing with people who go to see these movies. I don’t agree with them but some people believe in a separation of art/artist and that’s fine too. And even my hardline doesn’t satisfy everyone. Movies that I have watched in the recent past that people have sent me nasty messages for seeing include but are not limited to: Zero Dark Thirty, Zero Motivation, Suffragette and Everything, Everything. I get negative messages when I post about Detroit, I get negative messages when I post about Wonder Woman. For some people that’s their line and that’s okay.

It does sound in your comment like you do want to see it so here are three things to make you feel better in case you do: 1) there is no movie that exists that is made by perfect people and you buying a ticket to see a movie does not mean you are endorsing everything everyone in the movie has ever done 2) your ticket is a drop in the bucket either way in terms of box office 3) if the movie flops no one will attribute it to a post Gal Gadot made three years ago they’ll think women can’t open movies.

i’ve been getting quite a bit of asks and messages about bullet journaling, so i figured that it would be better to make a helpful post about an intro to bullet journaling. i’ve compiled the basics + terminology around bullet journaling as well as some brief explanations and advice.

this got long, so i decided to put it under the cut! click “read more” to learn more about the basics of bullet journaling :)

A-Z NSFW: Yixing

Disclaimer: I couldn’t find the original poster this came from, but I got this from philanddanxreader, I didn’t come up with this.

A = Aftercare
Yixing is the most caring person in the world. Honestly he’s the best human that walks the Earth, don’t fight me on that. And he definitely will be the most loving and caring boyfriend/lover in EXO, if not in the entire human population. Yixing is certainly a guy that refuses to let you leave the bed until he knows you’re 100% okay. He’s not very rough in general, so hurting you isn’t a fear on his mind often, but he does want to make sure you’re happy and comfortable before he gets his dose of cuddles; either a quick shower if you feel up to moving or he’ll jump to get a warm rag because no one likes sweat and dry cum snuggles….

B = Body part (Their favorite body part of theirs and also their partner’s)
Nothing fucked my day up more than reading an passage from his book, where he went to say things like he’s a good dancer, but not as good as Kai, a good singer but not as good as Luhan, handsome but not as handsome as Kris. It’s obvious no matter how brilliant he is, he’s literally the most perfect human alive, he’s still rather self conscious. He’d favor his abs, definitely. He rips his shirt off every chance he gets and on Go Fighting when he was woken up he literally went to the bathroom and stared in the mirror at them for a good 5 minutes…I’m sure he’s pretty proud of them. Being the sappy guy he is, of course he says your eyes are his favorite. He’s really lovey, what do you expect, honestly?

C = Cum
While he is the epitome of a gentleman, Xing’s still kind of hesitant and awkward around females. He’d have to finish in a condom in you or something, I feel like he’s such an angel that cumming all over you in semi degrading in his mind, insulting even. If the odd chance he does cum on you by accident, he’s flying off the bed to find something to clean you off.

D = Dirty Secret (a dirty secret of theirs)
I feel like Xing’ll have a lot of dirty secrets. Even though he loves you and he likes being honest with you, he doesn’t really like to be vocal about sex things. He respects you too much to actually bring any of it up, different positions and places he wants to have sex, he keep his lips sealed tight. But…you’ll just have to make him tell you, won’t you?

E = Experience (How experienced are they? Do they know what they’re doing?)
See this is the thing, I can’t imagine Xing watching straight up porn. I remember him saying he does watch 19+ movies? Idk if any of you have watched those but I have and they’re….something…but certainly not on par with porn. I know he had a GF back in China, and wrote her songs and all that, he was definitely a loving boyfriend. He knows too much good stuff to put in his songs mym ??? boy…. and onE DOES NOT SIMPLY KNOW HOW TO MOVE THEIR HIPS LIKE THAT UNLESS THEYVE BEEN IN THAT GOOD PUS-anyways, I don’t think he’s a virgin….he definitely knows what he’s doing, he’s just too respectful to be a fuck boi like the rest of em XD

F = Favorite position

The way that boy gets down on the floor and humps boi busted his fuckin belt how tf that’s a straight up missionary guy. Xing really gets it going too….missionary sure as hell ain’t boring with his hips grinding away. He does fool around with the position, though. Prop your legs up over his shoulders or hook his arms behind your knees, the whole big thang, lord knows one simply does not get bored with xing’s dicc in ‘em.

G = Goofy (Are they more serious in the moment, or are they humorous, etc)

While Xing is kind of a meme, he’s adorkable in the best ways, when his shirts off and hips are moving, I’ve never seen the dude more serious. He’s damn determined to give the most for you; he’s in ‘character’ and he’s focused entirely on giving you both the most pleasure imaginable.

H = Hair (How well groomed are they)
Lord knows I love his tummy and I have a weird obsession with his happy trail. I think he might wax every once in a while…I’ve seen him missing the hair from one armpit a few times……that’s weird…..anyways I don’t think he trims or stays bare much, probably one of the other boys forced him to go along to the ahem..’groomers’ or something.

I = Intimacy (How are they during the moment, romantic aspect…)
This is Xing we’re talking about…they boy that wrote love songs for his childhood GF…..k but imagine baby xing writing little love songs, cute image, isn’t it? O-fucking-course Xing is tHE MOST romantic member in both your non-sexual relationship and your sexual one. He pampers you, and especially in the bedroom, he’s almost singing lyrics to you his sweet nothings are so sweet. He’s a stickler for that good ol ‘loving eye contact’ and holding your hands, bodies pressed entirely together while he confesses his love and admiration over and over again.

J = Jack Off (Masturbation)

Listen…I know he’s a grown man….but I literally can’t see Xing jerking off? Like I feel like just the thought makes him flustered and he gets all awkward and has to think about all the rice cake he was force fed on Go Fighting! to chill back out again. He’d much rather be with you, so if the feeling arises, he stores it in the spank bank for later when he gets to be back in your arms.

K = Kink (One or more of their kinks)
Okay, okay. I do think Xing is an innocent little baby, but I know he’s not. You know the times he wears that like…silk fabric as a blindfold? He lowkey stole that and brought it back to keep for himself. He really likes the cool fabric feel against his skin and sometimes after a long long day, he likes to just lay back and hand you the fabric and let you have your own, uncontrolled, fun with him.

L = Location (Favorite places to do the do)
Regardless on how he is in the bedroom, we all know Yixing is a good boy, he’s not going to take you somewhere there’s a risk of getting caught and/or in trouble, so he’s very firm in staying in the bedroom. But I really think he’d love bath sex, he likes water so much, the performances and all he wanted to do on Go Fighting! was go swimming, he’s a lil fishy. Bedroom and bath are really the only options to him.

M = Motivation (What turns them on, gets them going)

His songs are lowkey dirty, and if he’s got you, I imagine he’d be secretly writing songs about/for you all the time. I bet my leg he’s be writing his not so innocent lyrics and be thinking about you and then his mind wanders….and things grown….and he’d have to hunt you down…Yixing urned himself on just writing about you…sheesh he’s a weirdo…

N = NO (Something they wouldn’t do, turn offs)
Back to Location, he 100% will not do anything public. He’s not easily turned on when he’s out in the world anyways, so it’s kind of pointless to try.  Also anything by his neck? Not happening, he’ll have a melt down. I’d pay to see someone try to give him a hickie….

O = Oral (Preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc)

God Xing is such a little shit….He has the most talented mouth I’ve seen….he’s just too much. He’s a very big pleaser, he almost gets off on just getting you off, he’s a pro and even better since he knows your body’s reactions so well. He almost doesn’t like you going down on him, but he’s one that won’t even propose the idea of you returning the favor and if you take initiative to do it, he’s down for the ride, but he’s not going to ask.

P = Pace (Are they fast and rough? Slow and sensual? etc.)

How the floor isn’t pregnant after all this time, I have no idea. If his um…floor fun is anything to show, he’s kind of rough. With an actual person, I don’t think he’d be that wild, a bit slower that he portrays and way more loving and sensual.

Q = Quickie (Their opinions on quickies rather than proper sex, how often, etc.)
I feel like Xing has a pretty tight hold on his lust and whatnot, so I think if there isn’t proper time to have regular sex, he can easily push it away to bring up later when you’ve got time for it. If they did happen, quickies would be extremely rare, to the point you can count how many times you’ve had them on one hand. He just doesn’t like the rushed feeling.

R = Risk (Are they game to experiment, do they take risks, etc.)

[See Location and NO] Yixing’s pretty hesitant in trying new things with you, he doesn’t really want to do anything that sounds like it could hurt either of you so a lot of things he isn’t game to even try but if they sound harmless enough, like just a new position or something, he’s okay with trying that.

S = Stamina (How many rounds can they go for, how long do they last…)

Yixing does the very most all the time, he gives 142% in every single thing he does. I don’t think he tires out easily, that’s why he can’t do quickies, I don’t think he cums fast…you’ll probably be at it for a good 10 minutes and that’s excluding the foreplay. But one round is usually all he will do.

T = Toy (Do they own toys? Do they use them? On a partner or themselves?)

Beyond a few things that doesn’t really count as toys really aka the silk fabric blindfold thing, Xing doesn’t delve into toys much. He’s pretty much a sex machine on his own, him bringing toys into the bedroom isn’t a very likely scenario, he doesn’t really like or see the need for them.

U = Unfair (how much they like to tease)
Make no mistake, Xing is a little shit, Go Fighting! exposed his naughty side quite a bit lmao but after keeping his hormones in check, once he finally has his hands on you he can’t really hold himself back anymore. Teasing you is more so teasing himself and he don’t live for that life. Foreplay is a must, but teasing is right out the window.

V = Volume (How loud they are, what sounds they make)
Xing has the vocals of a god, don’t fight me on that. The boy has a good set of pipes but he’s more of a grunt/moan guy in the bedroom. No one’s going to hear him but you, he doesn’t like breathing on his neck but more often than not he’s got his head tucked against your neck and moaning and panting in your ear.

W = Wild Card (Get a random headcanon for the character of your choice)

We know Xing has his lil dance studio in China, and he 100% brings you with him on his trips back to his home country solely because of the place. Unless shiz is happening, no ones really in there and let’s just say sometimes he really likes the mirrors in the dance practice rooms…

X = X-Ray (Let’s see what’s going on in those pants, picture or words)

Okay we’ve literally seen his dick…like 100% Xing dick has been exposed.

b y e
Obviously it don’t really look like much but dicks are strange things, they grow like plants lmaoman i dead ass was watching this porn and it was like 30 mins long and dude had a lil thumb dick and i was like wtf is that and when he actually was hard the fucker was like 5 inch how tf that work either way, that whole motion in the ocean thing is legit, and we’ve seen his moves….itll be ok..

Y = Yearning (How high is their sex drive?)

Like I said, he’s lowkey a dirty guy but he keeps himself composed well. Xing has a pretty average sex drive, just slightly higher than usual but he keeps himself on a leash pretty well so it doesn’t show…but he’ll show you dont worry…

Z = ZZZ (… how quickly they fall asleep afterwards)
Xing is a pretty cuddly boyfriend/lover in my mind, especially sine you’re alone his PDA hold back has gone out the front door, he’s latched to your side. I think after pretty much having an intense work out, you both fall asleep pretty fast. Xing’s definitely down for the count immediately after you’re cleaned up.

the mbti types based off of people I know / an enfp pov

INFP: my legit best friend- a great listener, has a really great music taste and is super hilarious. not as emotional™ as everyone thinks, but feels very deeply. obsessed with knowing how life will turn out and gets frustrated because she’ll never know. “Is there a god? do you wanna talk about space? here listen to this song it makes me think about the future.” does not want people to see her but wants to know people think about her enough to include her (even if she doesn’t show up)

INTP: dad friend- will try to help but doesn’t really know exactly how to comfort. really smart but very anti social. prefers to sit at home and read instead of talking but thinks I’m funny so that’s okay. takes a while to actually get them to talk but once they trust you they’re really cool friends to have and they make a lot of lame jokes that are actually pretty good. if they don’t talk to you, don’t take it personally, they don’t really talk to anyone

INTJ: is actually hilarious but no one understands his humor. extremely sarcastic. if you say something stupid will probably either a: death glare or b: respond with something along the lines of “can you please rephrase that or explain it in a way that I can fully understand and give you an accurate response?” seems like they don’t care and they kinda don’t but if they like you then they care a lottttt even if they don’t really know how to show it. doesn’t really speak at all unless they know exactly what they’re talking about and tend to feel very frustrated if you ask them something and they don’t know how to respond. don’t really talk to people in worry that someone will see them as not as smart as we actually think they are.

ISFJ: cinnamon roll of a friend and mom friend to the extreme. seems like all we do is bake cupcakes and watch movies together but i love you and enjoy you’re company a lot. doesn’t really like confrontation at all. wants to be supported as much as she supports everyone else. doesn’t talk much but if she’s comfortable with you, oh boy. is really smart and wants things to be in order and if her motives are questioned or someone says something that offends her she will be very frustrated and upset for a while. tends to bottle her feelings until she can’t anymore and then has a break down and feels extremely unworthy of anything. loves to read gay fanfiction. tries her best to respect everyone and will do whatever she can to help you if you need it. extremely loyal partner and friend

INFJ: really awkward but in a good way. great listener. doesn’t really know how to say what’s on her mind ever so lets out her feelings in art. both infjs that I know are extremely artistic and charming. they just have this really home-ish feeling that makes you want to tell them anything and they’re also super trust worthy. never judges people and gives great hugs. very insecure and acts like nothing gets to them but you can read their faces like a book. please protect them.

ISTP & ISTJ & ISFP have yet to be discovered - chances are I probably know at least one of each of these types as I am friends with a lot of people but I haven’t been able to type any of my friends as such for now. please feel free to message me if you’re any of these types because I would love to be friends and know more about you (:

ENTP: jesus christ. one hell of a person. we can talk for hours and hours and it feels like we’ve only been talking for like two minutes. you make me laugh a lottttt. emo to the extremo. has no filter and says offensive things sometimes but not to be hurtful or anything they’re just very blunt and expect you to already know what they’re talking about. questions things a lot and always wants to know why something is happening for the exact reason and if you can’t explain then it isn’t worth their time. is actually pretty emotional insecure deep down but at the same time is very self absorbed and has a strong tendency to think they’re better than everyone else. all of the entps I know are amazing multitaskers

ENFJ: very loud and obnoxious. the epitome of extra. talks about herself a lot and intentionally embarrasses herself for attention. not a bad person at all but just frustrates me quite a bit because I feel like she could be such an amazing person that people really enjoy talking to and being around if she just listened to what other people have to say for once.

ENFP: the only enfp I know is myself so i guess I’ll just write about me lmao. I’m very friendly and I love to talk a lot and be in groups but at the same time I really like to just hang out with people one on one. I’ve been told before that the way I act in a group is very different than how I act with just one person. for example in a group im always laughing and making jokes and talking to everyone and I tend to say stupid things but with just one person I’m quieter and I like having very deep and complex conversations about everything. (that doesn’t mean the jokes stop haha) I have been told by a lot of my friends that I have a very child like personality and I agree. I’m a pretty emotional person and I care about other people a lottttt. I would do anything to help one of my friends and I love making people smile. I like to express myself in creative ways (I wear glitter on my face to school and I have a bright yellow jacket that I wear often that says savages on the sleeves and huge grandpa glasses) because I just really want to stand out for some reason. I tend to start a lot of tasks that I never finish and I usually start off things very excited about them and ignoring all of the bad things but once I realize what I’m doing and if feel like it won’t benefit me at all in the future or help me be the best version of myself then I tend to drop it but if I see it benefiting me or making me a better person or helping me with what I need then I am extremely devoted to it and will do anything I can to keep it going. this goes for things all the way from a new activity at school to relationships which I guess can make me seem kinda flaky but I don’t want to put myself in a situation that is going to leave me unhappy and questioning why I ever started it in the first place. this doesn’t mean I just give up or that I don’t try to work though the bad things in situations because I put myself through a lot to really understand a situation and if I can tell that what I’m doing will never work out for me then that’s when I drop it.

ESFJ: cool affff. seems unphased by a lot but always knows what’s going on. is a great leader and knows wtf they’re talking about. always trying to find an answer to anything they do. also pretty extra but not as much as ENFJ. involved in everythingggg and will roast u with no remorse. never leaves the house without making themselves look presentable first. sarcastic laugh™

ESTP & ESTJ & ESFP & ENTJ have yet to be discovered - chances are I probably know at least one of each of these types as I am friends with a lot of people but I haven’t been able to type any of my friends as such for now. please feel free to message me if you’re any of these types because I would love to be friends and know more about you (:

*disclaimer* I’m not a psychologist and im not trying to shove each personality type into a box. these are just based off of the people I know personally and if you don’t fit with my description of your personality type i apologize. everyone is different and there are so many variations of each type.

Go Go ‘Power Rangers’ (2017 Review)

Is this good? Is this bad? Will my inner-child allow me to judge this appropriately?

“Power Rangers” is a reboot of the classic 1990s action-packed children’s show “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,” which in turn is based on the Japanese tokusatsu “Super Sentai Series.” It’s directed by Dean Israelite and stars a cast of young actors, as well as Bryan Cranston, Bill Hader and Elizabeth Banks. The film is set in the small, fictional town of Angel Grove, where local high school students Jason Scott, Kimberly Hart and Billy Cranston (Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott and RJ Cyler, respectively) are all caught up in detention. Through a series of shenanigans, they come across Trini and Zack (Becky G and Ludi Lin, respectively) as they all discover an ancient, otherworldly construct. It’s there where they meet Zordon (Cranston) and his robot assistant Alpha 5 (voiced by Hader), and attain the responsibility of becoming a powerful team known as the Power Rangers, and to stop the destruction of an ancient, powerful witch known as Rita Repulsa (Banks).

This is the absolute perfect “what if” movie. The answer to “what if they remade ‘Power Rangers’ for adults” question. This is the film we asked for, albeit cautiously. We really owe it to franchises such as the “Transformers” series, because without them, this film would be seen as an impossible reach.

Being a millennial, I was very much a child when “Power Rangers” had its long television run, and I stayed true through each incarnation, from “Mighty Morphin” to “Lightspeed Rescue,” and considered myself a retired fan after “Dino Thunder” (I was already in middle school at the time). So yes, shameful as it is, I know my shit. As you can see, I want this to be good. But was it?

Yes. Surprisingly, it was pretty good. It’s not shockingly “I thought this was going to be shit but it ended up being amazingly amazing” good. It’s just good.

Here’s one thing that the film does better than the TV show: the acting. In a great departure from the “Saved by the Bell” mood that the 90s actors gave us, we now have grounded, realistic, rebellious teenagers. These new actors fit the “teenagers with attitude” description way better than the 90s actors ever did. You have Montgomery as Jason, playing the rebel who ends up having to deal with the most responsibility. Scott plays Kimberly, the girl who does a good job of not just being the obligatory female casting, or the fighting damsel-in-distress, unlike the original. The dialogue between these two is usually filled with charm, whether its casual banter or a proclamation of their contempt for Angel Grove.

But they do something different with the rest of the cast, which helps to modernize them. Cyler as Billy provides the humor and keeps the grittiness from ever getting lower and lower. Of the five teenagers, he is the one with the most charisma But he also serves to represent autistic teens everywhere. Yes, unlike the television counterpart, they made the Blue Ranger autistic, which is a pretty bold and commendable step for something based off a children’s property.

To keep the ball rolling, they then make Becky G’s Trini represent lesbians and confused, oppressed teenagers everywhere. Okay, this film had me at shedding light on autism, but encouraging more LGBT representation? Hats off to you, Lionsgate and Saban. Despite this, I found Becky G’s performance to be slightly annoying until about halfway through the movie, when they developed her much more, and gave her a more integral role in the plot.

While I praised the rest of the cast, I’d have to drop the axe on Ludi Lin as Zack, the Black Ranger.  Compared to all these convincing performances, Lin’s is absolutely haphazard. The way he is introduced is to set up how much of a cocky outsider he is, so naturally he’s by himself. He then starts speaking to himself, which is one of my absolute biggest pet peeves in a movie. I despise movie moments where normal-functioning people start speaking or quipping to themselves, the only sensible reason being that the writers assume the audience is too dumb to know what the character is thinking. I get it if a character has schizophrenia or another mental illness, or if the words are limited to comedic inner-banter, but not in this case. He’s someone with decent social-competence and no reason to quarrel with himself, other than provide exposition to the audience.

But like Trini, I did find him to be much less annoying when he opened up. They gave him a pretty touching backstory with his own troubles, and they make his motivations really apparent. And just to keep the ball rolling, he’s also the most foreign one of the group, being bilingual, unlike the original black ranger. Now that I think about it, many of the Power Ranger series’ casts don’t feature any overtly foreign characters, apart from maybe of an alien race.

That is precisely why this casting works. Whether or not you find these characters annoying, you can’t doubt that they’re there for a good reason, and you might even warm up to them as the movie progresses. They also help to introduce bouts of political correctness, but they aren’t preachy or condescending about it (which is really the only good way to go about political correctness). They represent people of various colors, mental states and social capabilities, showing (but not telling) that everyone is capable of extraordinary things as long as they have camaraderie.

I can’t say much about Cranston as Zordon. It’s a great homage, seeing as how Cranston has actually been a part of “Power Rangers” since the original television show, where he voiced many of the villains they face. I do love his voice-work here, and while it took some getting used to, I ended up really liking how they presented him. Rather than a chubby, floating head in a tube, they made him manifest into a wall, kind of like one of those pinpression toys. Not to mention they could have easily made him a one-dimensional character. But they went above and beyond to give him his own arc, his own set of feelings and doubts, and a world of lore behind him.

If you thought Alpha 5 was annoying in the television show, then you can rest your worries because Bill Hader fixed him up good. The original’s voice was so high-pitched and screechy; basically in typical 90s fashion (or how the 90s thought Aliens would sound like). This time, he just kind of does the same thing he did as Fear from “Inside Out,” except less screaming. His design had me slightly worried but I got used to it.

Now, Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa has me split down the middle. On the one hand, I do like that at least ONE person in this entire film is trying to recall the absurdity and campiness of the original series. At the same time, I found her to be over-the-top, and incredibly outlandish compared to the rest of the grounded cast. She is guilty of overacting here, which is both a blessing and a curse. The prosthetics on her are amazing though, from both start to finish. She starts out as an outright horror character, which is something I didn’t expect to see even in the gritty version of a children’s property.

If you kept up with me for this long, you know that a recurring theme here is that this film takes several risks that are rather uncharacteristic of a children’s property. Sure, there are hints of silliness to try and match the youthful appeal of the original, but they also throw in more mature bits of humor, about things such as drug tests and jacking off a cow (no joke). Me personally, I welcome these jokes. If anything, this is much more of a film for the adults who grew up watching “Power Rangers,” rather than children. The maturity really shines through in the form of character development and chemistry.

I must say that if you are bringing a child to watch this, keep in mind there will be mild swearing, and several mature jokes.

A common criticism (ad nauseam, pretty much) is that this film is a forced collision between two different movies. Two thirds of the movie is essentially the origin story, which focuses mainly on character development. At the same time, this is the section that appeals to the audience the most, whether you’re fans of the original or not. No one comes into anything titled “Power Rangers” and expects to feel for the characters. But through one particular scene where all the characters develop a kinship, we develop a peculiar attachment to each of them. It was at this moment that I’m glad these people are the ones I’m spending five more movies with (Yup, that’s right).

But when it sticks to the original, it definitely sticks, and that’s where the last third of the movie comes in. If you’re looking for cool looking suits fighting monsters with martial arts and gymnastics, you will get it. If you’re looking for giant robot dinosaurs battling another giant monster, you will get it. And MOST OF ALL, if you want to, at least once, hear the iconic theme song, you will get it. In all it’s pure, epic goodness.

But this is where I have to defend my appreciation for this movie, because many people will come in accusing me of being “blinded by nostalgia.” Despite having these borrowed features from the original show, there is really nothing nostalgic about it. The action here is far better than most of the show’s episodes. There is no silliness to be had apart from what would be silly by realistic standards (as opposed to having two obligatory bully characters).

Even some elements taken from the show are vastly different. Case in point: Rita, who in this film is actually getting shit done by herself rather than sitting up in some moon tower yelling at everyone.

Even the formula of the show is broken up here. Back then, everything was so fast-paced to where every time a new series was brought in, the new team of Power Rangers would unrealistically form intimate familial connection and extraordinary abilities within 20 minutes. This film actually shows you that the Power Rangers had to train for this, both physically and mentally. They didn’t just have these abilities bestowed upon them as a result of the plot rushing it together. You see them work for it, which is something I really appreciated about it.

I had to bring that up because many of the people who didn’t like this film will be quick to see reactions like mine and guilt me for “nostalgia.” But that “tone difference” that they’re faulting this for is the reason why you can’t pin nostalgia on this. All that means is that everything I liked about this film has been on its own merits, maybe (at most) perpetuated by quick little homages to the original.

I suppose before I wrap this up I should mention one more thing. Not really a problem, but more like something I wish happened: I wish they played the theme song more. It was wonderful hearing the iconic theme song, perfectly borrowed from the 1995 film, and at the height of its “Power Ranger-ness.” But I felt that if they really were gonna throw it in there, they should have totally owned it and at least left it playing for a bit longer. If not that, then at least make an instrumental cover to play in the background during the climax, rather than GODDAMN KANYE.

This is a film that has fans and critics alike split down the middle, but it’s pretty clear that everyone who hates it is hating it for the same two reasons: (1) It has a massive tone-clash towards the end, and (2) It caters way too much toward product promotion for Krispy Kreme donuts. I do agree with the latter, make no mistake. But when I hear people complain about this tone-clash, it reminds me of people who complained about the “slow parts” of every other superhero film, whether it’s “Captain America: Civil War,” or “Batman v Superman.” Apart from being a “Power Rangers” movie, this is also an origin story film. And for something as ridiculous as “Power Rangers,” it definitely requires a slow initiation process. To get us going on a six-movie deal, the creators will have to help casual viewers acclimate to the premise, because chances are the naysayers are the ones who skipped out on this franchise as children, and therefore missed their window of opportunity. Ironic how a movie based on a children’s property requires a mature level of patience from the audience.

As I said before, if you came into this wanting to see colored suits, martial arts, explosions and giant robots, you will get it. If you’re dragged into this film but appreciate elements like character development and chemistry, you will get that too. As someone who enjoys both, I actually would go so far as to say I loved this movie. I don’t care if I’m alone on this, but I can comfortably say that I loved the “Power Rangers” movie.

{Special} College!AU Jooheon
  • major: accounting
  • minor: music technology/digital music production
  • sports: said he’d try out for fencing because of his friend jackson but completely forgot about it,,,,,,,,,even though jackson texted him like 405282 times
  • clubs: joined a movie club which is essentially like a book club but you all gather, pick a movie, and watch it. jooheon has picked pulp fiction like five times because he still doesn’t get the majority of what was happening in that movie,,,,,,,,,,
  • if you’ve ever seen those memes about super stressed college students just laying down asleep in the library surrounded by unfinished homework, candy wrappers, and highlighters,,,,,,,,,,that is jooheon
  • if you look closely enough you’ll all see the light in his eyes is gone, his soul has left his body. left the library. left the campus. left this atmosphere.
  • and it is all because of his major,,,,,,,,,,,,which he hates,,,,,,,,,because accounting is just mathematics and droned out professors who sound like they’re saying the same thing over and over and over again
  • and jooheon has thought of bludgeoning himself with his auditing textbook on multiple occasions because,,,,,,,,everything is pain. College is Terrible
  • and all of his friends are like,,,,,bro you’re dragging yourself into a black hole just switch. changkyun is always like “look at me, i love my major because it’s interesting - you look like you haven’t slept in four days and i think your business tax homework is stuck onto your back with some gum.”
  • jooheon with bags under his eyes: i haven’t slept in four days. i haven’t eaten a decent meal in a week. and no changkyun, it isn’t “stuck” to me. my backpack is too full so im being innovative
  • like it’s not even that he doesn’t study,,,,it’s just it’s so bland and boring of a subject that he can’t even motivate himself to apply what he’s learned
  • shownu literally had to come to his class once and pick up a passed out jooheon ,,,,,,,, it’s a Mess
  • the thing jooheon is really interested in is music,,,,,and he’s friends with a lot of the music majors so he gets to use their equipment and stuff if he asks
  • and like,,,,,,he wants to produce songs. and he has,,,,,,,,it’s just that no one knows it’s him
  • he has a soundcloud and every now and then he’ll drop a link to it on the student resource page and like,,,,,,,,,,it’s really popular
  • he publishes them under the fake name h*ney and any of his singles will go viral through school and be played at every dorm party on campus
  • even got off campus when someone tweeted that they were playing a h*ney song at this club that they were at and when jooheon saw he almost fell off his chair because??????? woah people really like what he does
  • but he knows a future with music is practically impossible, plus his own parents don’t know he took the production major as a minor because they’d be totally against it
  • and it sucks to feel like you’re being pulled in two directions; one toward what you really love, and one toward whats best for your future
  • like,,,,,not even his close friends know he’s actually h*ney and minhyuk’s literally always talking about how much he loves the songs and so is changkyun and even picky kihyun,,,,,,,
  • it’s like he’s living a double life LOL and jooheon wishes he could just be himself,,,,but it’s hard when he’s in class and the other accounting majors are all competing with each other for internships at huge companies and trash talking arts majors
  • i mean he already doesn’t really fit in perfectly,,,,,,,jooheon is much more social than a lot of people in his classes and he goes out on the weekends with wonho and minhyuk and sometimes he’ll crack jokes in class and the serious, no-fun students are just like “did you do the homework? what did you get on the midterm? are you working anywhere right now, i just got a job as a lackey at a bank-”
  • and so even with his grades slipping, jooheon knows that he’s never going to be an accountant, work in a bank, like the thought is so????? not him?????????
  • but all he does to deal with it is like,,,,,,work on his music even though he gets nothing in return because of his anonymity
  • and you,,,,,,,unlike jooheon who has a major he hates,,,,,,are undecided
  • and you’ve spent most of college taking random classes and not finding anything that interests you in the least and like it SUCKS
  • because everyone has a plan and you’re kinda like,,,,,,,,shrugging your shoulders because your friend looks at your schedule and is like ?? physics lab??????? international dance???? gender in the eighteenth century???? microeconomics????
  • and you’re just on your phone scrolling through texts or whatever shrugging your shoulders like yeah,,,idk,,,i can’t make up my mind
  • and you actually have microeconomics with jooheon and you sit next to each other in the lecture hall
  • which,,,,,is hilarious because out of all the people there you two have literally zero clue about what is going on because???? microeconomics,,,,,,,,,,,,,,doesn’t make sense to you guys
  • and instead of paying attention and studying you always fall asleep with your headphones on and jooheon has had to get into the habit of nudging you awake if the teacher comes by or there’s homework being passed out
  • and one day,,,, you have your earphones on as usual and you’re blasting the new song by h*ney,,,,and jooheon can hear it you’re listening to it so loud
  • and,,,,he just can’t help but smile to himself because,,,,,,,you don’t even know it but you’re sitting right next to the composer of that song
  • but also right before class ends everyone gathers around to talk about the final and you take your headphones out and you’re like,,,,,,,oh shit,,,,,the final
  • and jooheon is like,,,,,,,,we gotta get notes from someone fast or else we’ll both flunk and you agree but when you ask around most of the students either don’t have organized notes to give out or,,,,,you know,,,,just don’t want to
  • even though you and jooheon pull together a grand total of $22.47 as an offering ,,,, but you realize really fast you and jooheon are royal,,,,totally,,,,,Screwed
  • the both of you sitting on a bench on campus with your head in your hands until you sit up and you’re like “well,,,,,if we fail we fail,,,,not much we can do now. except-”
  • and jooheon turns to see you smirking and he’s like ???? and you’re like “wanna go party our misery away?” and he perks up because oh,,,, now that might make him feel better and you’re like “there’s this place i really like in the city, i go with friends but today ill go with my,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,partner in failure of microeconomics!!”
  • and that’s how you and jooheon end up on the cramped dancefloor of a popular club amongst college students and you can tell that over half of them are doing exactly what you and jooheon are doing: trying to forget the horrors of finals
  • and you and jooheon are having a great conversation on just how much college really stinks
  • jooheon spilling his hatred out for his major while you laugh and tell him at least he has a major,,,,,you’re just floating through completely unaware of what to pick
  • and you’re both shaking your heads with sighs until suddenly the song changes to h*ney’s new song and you light up and you’re like jOOHEON,,,,THIS SONG IS MY FAVORITE and it jusT CAME OUT h*ney really outdid himself this time,,,,,
  • and jooheon watches as you dance a little to the song and he has to take a sip of his drink in order not to break out into a grin
  • because again,,,,,you don’t know he’s h*ney
  • but you look cute,,, enjoying his music,,,,,,and jooheon realizes there’s a reason he loves music and not accounting,,,,,he loves it because it makes other people happy
  • like in this moment there’s a hundred or more other people here,,,young good looking people,,,,,but you somehow hold jooheon’s attention because of how genuinely you’re enjoying his music,,,something he created,,,,
  • and nothing has ever overcome jooheon like right now because suddenly he wants to tell you ,,,,, only you,,,,,,his secret
  • and he reaches out to take your hand and you’re like ????? and he’s like “im going to tell you something but you need to keep it a secret.” and you’re like ??????? sure????
  • and he’s like follow me, ill tell you but i think i need to show you so you’ll believe it
  • and you’re walking behind jooheon and instead of going toward the subway back to campus he’s telling you to come with him on the bus
  • and before you know it you’re in front of an apartment building and jooheon is like “,,,,,you know how im an accounting major right? well im also,,,,,into making music. you might know some of my music,,,.”
  • you tilt your head in wonder because???? how could you know his music you’ve never heard of an artist named jooheon before
  • but when you step inside to the small apartment, turned into a mini recording studio jooheon starts up his computer and he’s like “here - tell me if this sounds familiar”
  • and the minute you hear it the minute you realize,,,,,jooheon,,,,,,is h*ney
  • and you’re like HOLY HELL NO WAY and jooheon is slightly embarrassed by your shocked expression but he’s like iT’s true,,,,h*ney is my side project and stage name
  • and you’re like oh mY GOD im in a room with a LEGEND DUDE YOURE A LEGEND ON CAMPUS
  • and jooheon shrugs, but the compliments make him feel really proud
  • and you’re like “oh my god oh my g OD,,,,,,,,,do you have anything you’re working on???? id love to hear it???????” and jooheon nods excitedly and sits down to start opening up some samples
  • and you literally spend the next two hours going through all of the stuff jooheon is working on and him just telling you about how h*ney came to be, how he learned to sing and rap and produce
  • and you’re in awe,,,,you’re like jooheon you’re amazing,,,,,,god why are you even an accounting major???? music is your talent????
  • and you get up and tell jooheon to play that one song you really liked and you just,,,,dance because it’s so good it’s impossible to hold still
  • and you outstretch your arm for jooheon and he’s turning red like,,,ah i couldn’t,,,,dance to my oWN song,,,,,
  • but you pull him up anyway and even in the tight space,,,, with snack wrappers and magazines all over the floor,,,, you and jooheon dance to the song
  • and jooheon,,,,,,for a moment he swears when he looks at you it’s like he’s seeing you in slow motion
  • your hair hitting your face as you twist back and forth
  • the way your mouth is open just ajar, eyes sparkling with something he’s never seen before
  • and jooheon doesn’t believe in love at first sight or whatever,,,,because he’s seen you enough in class,,,,,,but there’s something about you,,,,,something that draws him in
  • so much so that he shared his bIGGEST secret with you,,,,,,
  • and when you both realize it’s like wayyyy past curfew you decide you’ll just go back to campus in the morning and jooheon pulls out the inflatable mattress he has and lets you take it and he falls asleep in his computer chair
  • but it’s cute when you wake up you’re just like WOW you’re h*ney i still can’t believe it,,,,,
  • but jooheon shrugs and is like “it’s true” and as you’re getting coffee before heading back to school you’re like “oh! by the way - i promise i won’t tell anyone,,, you want to keep it a secret right?” and jooheon nods and you’re like well,,,,,,you have my promise
  • and  jooheon thanks you and you tell him you’ll see him in microeconomics for that final you’re both gonna cry during
  • and jooheon is like waving,,,,but for some reason with you gone it feels,,,,empty,,,,,
  • and throughout the day he keeps thinking about how happy you had gotten listening to his music,,,,,,how apparently a lot of people get happy listening to his music
  • and everytime he’d look down at his accounting textbooks,,,,,,he could just feel that this wasn’t for him
  • and so,,,,,,, at the end of the day he decides he’s going to switch
  • and when microeconomics class comes around and you’re like heY ready to die jooheon tells you his decision and you’re like!!!!!!!! dude im so happy for you!!!!!!
  • and he’s like,,,,,,,,it’s thanks to you,,,,,and you’re like mE??? and he’s like you made me see that music has the benefit of making someone feel something,,,,,i can’t do that with accounting
  • and you’re like flushing a bit because oh,,, you didn’t know you had such an impact but you’re happy you could help!! and jooheon turns to look athis paper but he’s like
  • before the test starts–after,,,do you wanna,,,,,,grab something to eat??
  • and you’re like,,,, as a oh-shit-we-failed-this-final kind of hang out or,,, a date??
  • and jooheon swallows and lowers his eyes but then he’s like “,,,,,like a date” and you feel your stomach do a little flip but you’re like ok!!!! deal
  • tldr; you and jooheon go on that date and it’s,,,,,fun you guys have a similar taste in music and you want to hear jooheon tell you more about his future plans
  • but at the end,,,,when you’re doing circles around campus jooheon stops and goes “you helped me find what i want to do,,,,i want to help you too.”
  • and you’re like idk if you can,,,,,im still undecided,,,,,and jooheon sadly nods but he’s like “for now all i can offer is this,,,” and you’re like ? and he leans down to softly kiss your cheek and you’re like oh,,,,well,,,,,,,ill gladly take it,,,,,,,,,,,,again,,,,kiss me again
  • and jooheon is like on the cheek?? and you’re like nope, on the lips please (-:
  • but jooheon is serious on helping you he gets together a bunch of his friends from different majors to talk with you and you’re like jooheon please it’s ok,,, but he’s like i want to help,,,,,,
  • you start spending more time with jooheon at his little studio and you’re always the first one to hear a h*ney song before it goes out
  • and you’re always hyping up his music because it’s SO GOOD seriously he could make money off producing
  • and jooheon never gets used to having someone stand beside him and praise him but he loves it even more because it’s you,,,,
  • his friend kihyun keeps demanding to know why you and jooheon keep going into the city together so much and you’re both like uMM,,,,,,,,for a group project,,,,,,,,,yeah,,,,,there’s a cafe there,,,,,,,we gtg,
  • and you like being the only one who knows jooheon is h*ney but also you keep encouraging him to maybe go public one day
  • because that means???? other musicians can contact him???
  • but for now everytime you guys hangout at the club you hear a song and you just knowingly grin at each other
  • jooheon,,,,when he hears a song he likes sends it to you
  • he makes playlists regularly and you listen to them whenever you miss him
  • you posted a photo on instagram of h*ney’s new soundcloud single and jooheon commented: oh! you’re a h*ney fan?
  • and you rolled your eyes because REALLY so you replied with ‘he’s my ideal type, are you jealous?’
  • to which minhyuk replied: OH SICK BURN JOOHEON REST IN PEACE
  • you and jooheon both passing out at the library instead of studying until you get kicked out for taking up space and end up cuddled in each others arms in his dorm complaining about how college is hard and you should have both stayed kids instead LOL
  • whenever jooheon overdoes it,,,,which he does a lot he stays up literally three nights in a row to work on a song,,,,,you have to come over and distract him with kisses
  • at some points you even have to sit in his lap and just use one hand to turn off the computer monitor and the other hand to go up jooheon’s shirt
  • and he whines about the song he was working on but the whines turn into low moans soon enough and yes now you’ve got his attention (-;
  • but his friends are all super thankful to you because fINALLY jooheon isn’t torturing himself with accounting
  • you guys literally shred all of his homework once he officially switches majors. you also wanted to do a ritual burning of his textbooks but you were like wait no let’s sell them instead
  • jooheon: good idea. you’re so smart. i love you so much,,,,,
  • also not to mention but jooheon is the sweetest boyfriend he’ll buy you flowers randomly and give them to you after class
  • or he’ll do small gestures that actually mean a lot like he knows you forget your charger so he buys one that fits your phone to carry with him,,,,,,bought you a plush bee and was like you’re my bumblebee and im you’re honey!~~~~~
  • does horribly cringe worthy aegyo to get you to pay attention to him when you’re on your phone
  • but you still think it’s cute because you end up giving in and smothering him in kisses
  • you go to movie club with him once and instead of watching the movie you cuddle and try to throw popcorn into jooheon’s mouth and everyone is like ahEM PDA
  • and you’re like yes pda? i love my boyfriend????
  • you explain to jooheon what pulp fiction is really about and he’s like oh ,,,,,,my god
  • you share earphones whenever you guys take the train together,,,,,it’s really cute,,,,,,,
  • you both did fail your microeconomics final like you predicted,,,,,,,,but it was ok because it was microeconomics that brought you two together,,,,,
  • but you two also totally ripped the final apart in anger and then made out for a good half hour to cope,,,,,,,,LOL

Epic Movie (Re)Watch #161 - Star Trek Beyond

(GIF originally posted by @forquicksilver)

Spoilers Below

Have I seen it before: Yes

Did I like it then: Yes.

Do I remember it: Yes.

Did I see it in theaters: Yes.

Was it a movie I saw since August 22nd, 2009: Yes. #440

Format: Blu-ray

1) The preproduction for this film was slightly troubled. JJ Abrams was committed to Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens so co-writer of the first two films Robert Orci signed on as director. He ended up leaving production though, taking his cinematographer with him, and it was a little while before Justin Lin (Fast and the Furious 3 - 6) was hired to replace him. Writers Simon Pegg and Doug Jung reportedly wrote the script in a bit of a hurry as they still had a release date to meet. But at the end the film turned out really well, so everything worked out in the end.

2) This film was released during the 50th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise.

Having said that, the work done by writers Pegg and Jung as well as Lin’s direction I think help to make the film feel like a balance between old Trek and new Trek. I’ll get into more details on that as I go along.

3) The opening scene.

The opening has an incredible sense of fun and humor to it (with the aliens Kirk is trying to break peace with seemingly gigantic and ending up being the size of a chihuahua) and honestly feels like it could be the concept of an episode for the original “Star Trek” TV show (says the guy who’s never seen an episode of the original series). It establishes some of the lighter/funner tone this film will feature compared to the titular darkness of Into Darkness as well as Kirk’s initial conflict in the film. It is a wonderful beginning.

4) Kirk’s tiredness.

Kirk is three years into his five year mission in space (which, in a not-so-coincidental-way, is how long the original series got before cancellation) and it is starting to weigh on him.

Kirk [in his captain’s log]: “As for me things have started to feel a little…episodic.”

There’s no direction in space, it is just infinite and that is starting to weigh on Kirk. It has him questioning the point of it all. It has him questioning who he is.

Kirk [after commenting he’s now a year older on his birthday]: “A year older than [my father] got to be. He joined Starfleet because he believed in it. I joined on a dare.”

Bones: “You joined to see if you could live up to him. [Mentions how Kirk has spent all this time trying to be like his dad.] Now you’re wondering what it means to be Jim.”

And it is through the fire of conflict in this film that Kirk will reclaim his identity and who exactly he is.

5) The release of this film was given an unexpected dose of sorrow as actor Anton Yelchin tragically passed away about a month before the film’s release.

There is a scene early in the film where Bones and Kirk drink some Scotch they found in Chekov’s locker. They pour three glasses, the third one being for “absent friends” (as in those we’ve lost who could not be here now). The absent friend I believe was meant to be Kirk’s later father, who the pair are talking about. But in the wake of Anton Yelchin’s passing the scene takes on a much more somber meaning and feels more like a tribute to him. After the film’s release I read on IMDb that the scene was included to pay tribute to Yelchin, but I can no longer find that piece of trivia suggesting it may have been false. Either way, it is impossible to divorce Chekov from that scene or the unintended tribute it pays to the late actor. I’m going to miss seeing you in the movie, Anton.

6) Yorktown.

Yorktown is quite possibly the stand out new element introduced into the film. The space station/outpost/colony/whatever is visually outstanding. Most space stations in film are defined by rigid edges and sharp boundaries but Yorktown is circular. It’s fluid, it’s organic, it moves into and through each other like a planet. Some of the camera tricks and technical aspects used to show off this new location is great. It also has an incredible atmosphere to it which ties directly into the sense of hope this franchise is all about. The air is clean, the sky is bright, multiple alien species are working in unity, and Giacchino’s again excellent score just lifts up the sense of optimism that bleeds through this place. It is a wonderful addition to not only this film but Trek lore as a whole.

7) This film introduces what I believe is Star Trek’s first canon gay character by revealing that John Cho’s Hikaru Sulu is in a partnership with another man.

(GIF originally posted by @maclexa-bane)

However, this decision had one person surprisingly against it. Original Sulu actor and LGBT activist George Takei himself. Here is an excerpt from an article covering this in the Hollywood Reporter.

“I’m delighted that there’s a gay character,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Unfortunately, it’s a twisting of Gene’s creation, to which he put in so much thought. I think it’s really unfortunate.”

Takei would take to social media a week later to clarify - but not disavow - his statement.

“I hoped instead that [Star Trek creator] Gene Roddenberry’s original characters and their backgrounds would be respected. How exciting it would be instead if a new hero might be created, whose story could be fleshed out from scratch, rather than reinvented. To me, this would have been even more impactful.”

I personally disagree with Takei. As a film student I can say that there seems to be this strange devotion to the “vision” of something. A decision will or won’t be made based on its support of the “original vision”. The original vision of something is almost totally irrelevant to what something actually is, however. Takei’s statements seem to be largely out of his respect for original creator Gene Rodenberry, which I can understand. But imagine some gay kid today LOVES the Star Trek movies and its characters. That kid is not going to care about Gene Rodenberry’s original vision, he is going to care about what Star Trek is today. I think seeing an already established (and incredibly important character) like Sulu express his sexuality in an open and accepted way is very much in line with what Star Trek is today (and will also have more of an impact on that kid than introducing a new character who they have no emotional investment in, but that’s just my personal belief).

The franchise has transcended Rodenberry or any one person involved. It is about unity (a major theme in this film), diversity, tolerance, and hope. And as long as it respects these core beliefs which make Star Trek what it is than I think it does more than respect Rodenberry’s original vision. It respects Star Trek.

8) I am going to talk about Spock and Uhura’s breakup and Spock Prime’s death, I promise. Just later.

9) Even though JJ Abrams did NOT direct this film, Greg Grunberg is still featured in it!

Grunberg is JJ Abrams’ lucky charm, appearing in almost all his films (notably absent from Star Trek into Darkness) in one form or another. And even though Abrams serves only as producer on this flick Grunberg still gets a part. Yay!

10) I like that Commodore Paris (one of the Starfleet higher ups at Yorktown) takes the time to say this to Kirk:

Commodore Paris: “It isn’t uncommon you know, even for a captain. To want to leave.”

It’s a common problem people have in life, the loss of identity. And of course it makes sense that it happens to Starfleet officers. Nothing is defined in space. It’s just space.

11) The skirmish between Kraal’s crew and the Enterprise is great.

As a way of introducing the primary plot into the film, it shows a clear lack of preparedness on the part of the Enterprise crew which is a great place to start the conflict and move forward. A, “started from the bottom,” type way. The film opening with such a heavy thrashing and the destruction of the Enterprise leaves a strong impact on the audience. You know these bad guys are people you do not want to mess with, you don’t even want to be in the same room as them. They just took down one of the best starships ever in a matter of minutes. The scene features great action, nice surprises, and is incredibly well paced. As the first major action set piece for the film, it is truly great.

12)

Kirk: “Abandon ship, Mr. Sulu.”

There is literally NO question from Sulu and only a the hesitation needed to process that request. He doesn’t even say, “Sir?” There’s no doubt in his mind. That is how much he trusts his captain and that is how well he knows his ship to admit when it’s done.

13) Idris Elba as Krall.

I will forever be upset that Suicide Squad won the Oscar for Best Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling when this film is PACKED with some of the most amazing practical creatures and aliens I have seen in years. You don’t have to look any further than Krall to see that. Idris Elba is not giving an animated performance, he’s not motion capture (not to knock motion capture actors, they’re some of the most under appreciated geniuses in Hollywood). That’s him. He is able to deliver a menacing and powerful performance through strong physicality. Elba does not play Krall as human and he shouldn’t. A huge factor for the character is that he’s lost his humanity. He is a beastly shade of his former self, motivated only by madness. I think Krall may be the best villain of this new trilogy (although it’s hard for me to be objective because Nero is still my favorite). Honestly, Elba freaking kills it as Krall and I don’t think they could have cast anyone to do a better job.

From a writing standpoint, Krall just gets more and more interesting as the film goes on.

Krall [after Uhura claims he has made an act of war against the federation]: “Federation act of war!”

But more on this later.

14) This film benefits from unique groupings for a good part of the film. Bones/Spock are the most prominent, but it’s not often you get to see Kirk and Chekov interact one-on-one or Uhura and Sulu. But for now, let’s talk about Bones & Spock.

I don’t think Bones and Spock get as much one on one time as they do in this film and I am so grateful for that. It provides a unique examination of their usually humorously tense interactions which was touched upon in The Search for Spock. I’ll discuss this more as I go (in one scene in particular), but they are able to be vulnerable around each other. Let their guards down, be totally honest, and make their friendship even stronger.

15) Sofia Boutella as Jaylah.

I fucking love Jaylah. So much. I want more Jaylah.

To start, her design is incredibly unique and memorable. It helps her standout from not only the rest of the Enterprise crew but the rest of the inhabitants on the planet as well. And from the strong visual you are able to build into a living, breathing, unique character. She fits into the crew dynamics (particularly through her relationship with Scotty) wonderfully well and she is a kick ass queen. She is a technical genius with no training or teaching, able to set up a number of booby traps/cloak the Franklin/keep auxiliary power going. She has this deep pain that is in direct relation to Kirk’s. Her father - her entire family - died trying to save her, just as Kirk’s did. She has fears, she has strengths, she loves punk music! Jaylah on paper is amazing and actress Sofia Boutella is incredible in the part. Boutella is able to portray all of Jaylah’s wonderful layers - her badass exterior, her painful past, her growth and dealing with her fears - beautifully. Boutella is a star on the rise in Hollywood (already having starred in Kingsman and appearing as the title character in the new Mummy film coming out soon) and to date this is - I think - her best performance. She is just SO good.

A quick final note: it has been said by the filmmakers that they will not be recasting Chekov after Anton Yelchin’s death. I want Jaylah to take his place on the bridge. Because I fucking love Jaylah.

16) The relationship Jaylah and Scotty forge is so fun and heartfelt. Jaylah is able to constantly surprise Scotty and show that she’s his equal in a lot of ways, but when it comes to the pain of her past Scotty is able to help her deal with that. It’s one of my favorite relationships explored in the film and I hope to see it continue in the future.

17) The relationship with Kirk and Chekov is explored a little more subtly than say Bones and Spock but it is still there. The fact that Kirk is able to signal Chekov to help him trap the traitor amongst their midsts, and then of course this wonderful piece of dialogue.

(GIFs originally posted by @alecc-bane)

Seeing any two characters have this back and forth suggests they’ve done it before. There’s a comfort there that Chekov is able to talk to Kirk so honestly about his doubts and…I’m sorry, I’m just laughing thinking about this scene. I love the exchange between the pair.

18) So it later turns out that Krall is a captain named Edison from VERY early in the Federation’s life span.

Krall: “Federation has taught you that conflict should not exist.”

Krall [MUCH later]: “We knew pain, we knew terror. Struggle made us strong. Not peace, not unity.”

He is an outdated relic, an ancient ideology in a progressive time who thinks HIS way of life was right. And he’s willing to commit mass genocide because of his outdated and hateful ways. There’s also a lose of identity there, as he tells Kirk in the climax, “I’ve missed being me.” That lose of identity in the face of infinite space is exactly what Kirk is at risk of going through, so there’s a connection there between the two that ties back in to Kirk’s main conflict (something that I love). All in all, Krall’s pain is utterly unique in the Star Trek films I’ve seen and I am impressed with the elegance they were able to write it.

19) Spock and Bones having a heart-to-heart about where Spock is in life is one of the best scenes in the film.

It is in this moment when Spock is at his most vulnerable, and it’s with Bones. He speaks as to how being one of the last Vulcan’s effects him, how it was that and the death of Spock-Prime which upset him so deeply he even broke up with Uhura because he thought he had to. He’s planning on leaving Starfleet. But Bones is an excellent friend in this scenes, listening to Spock and offering some kind non-judgmental words. He even gets Spock to laugh! It’s a great moment between these two characters who have been around for 50 years and I think one of the best character moments in all of Trek.

20) Did I mention I love Jaylah?

Jaylah [about her punk music]: “I like the beats and shouting!”

21) If I haven’t made it clear before, this film has some very well done humor. I think this is largely a result of Simon Pegg’s work on the script, but it wouldn’t have worked if cowriter Doug Jung hadn’t worked with him on it. Some examples…

Scotty: “I have an idea sir, but I’ll need your permission.”

Kirk: “Why would you need my permission?”

Scotty: “Because if I mess it up I don’t want it to be just my fault.”

22) So 2009′s Star Trek was about Kirk and Spock moving past their conflict to form a respect and kinship with each other. Star Trek Into Darkness had them solidifying their friendship. And now we’ve reached this point:

Spock [while severely injured]: “We will do what we’ve always done, Jim: find hope in the impossible.”

23) I think something the filmmakers really use to their advantage is taking problems and solving them in a creative way through the sci-fi genre (where aliens are a norm and we have artificial gravity and such). A brilliant example of this:

(GIFs originally posted by @trek-daily)

Also this is all practical makeup. Did I mention this film lost the makeup and hairstyling award to Suicide Squad? I’m bitter.

24) The funniest freaking part of the entire movie!

25) I know I mentioned this before, but Jaylah’s past trauma with her family is incredibly strong for me.

Jaylah [talking about Krall’s hostage camp; refusing to take Kirk and company to their crew]: “Everyone who goes there he kills!”

And it is just another great example of the relationship Scotty and Jaylah have made.

Kirk [after Jaylah leaves & Scotty moves to go after her]: “Let her go.”

Scotty: “She’s lost people too, Captain.”

The fact that Scotty is able to help Jaylah through her grief in a respectful but pressing way speaks a lot to me. And Kirk overhears this, specifically that Jaylah’s dad sacrificed himself for her. Hmm, why does that sound familiar?

The entire scene is great for me for those key reasons: it develops Jaylah, it strengths her relationship with Scotty, and it ties into Kirk’s conflict in the film.

26) The entire diversion/rescue scene on the motorcycle is awesome and one of the strongest set pieces in the entire film. It is brilliantly and intelligently choreographed, keeping the audience and Krall on their toes through the use of decoy projections. It also features a fight between Jaylah and Mannix which ties directly into her arc as he is the man who killed her father. And Kirk - who said to, “Let her go,” about ten minutes earlier - risks himself to save her. She’s a part of his crew now and I love that.

27) Remember how in the 2009 Star Trek Sulu messed up the take off of the Enterprise the first time? Well, I think the phrase, “started from the bottom now we’re here,” applies perfectly to this moment.

30) I just love Jaylah’s face when she sees Krall’s planet drift away in the distance. That place was her hell. Her family was murdered there. She never thought she’d be able to escape. And now…

31) Ladies & gentlemen: the most badass moment in Star Trek’s 50 year history.

Some highlights:

  • Kirk saying, “That’s a good choice,” tying directly into Young Kirk rocking out to this song in the 2009 film.
  • Bones: “Is that classical music?”
  • Chekov toe tapping.
  • Just how f***ing awesome that moment is. It gets you pumped!

I don’t know who had the initial idea to put this scene in the film, but I love them and I want to give them an award or something. This is glorious.

32) The climactic fist fight between Kirk and Krall is a lot of fun. Similar to Syl’s alien head hiding an important piece of technology, the filmmakers are able to use the concept of artificial gravity in a space station to their advantage by choreographing a unique and fun fight scene.

33) And with this Kirk resolves his conflict of identity in relation to his father.

Kirk: “Better to die saving lives than to live taking them. That’s what I was born into.”

34) I love that Kirk says this but for a weird personal reason. It’s something I learned as a film student and something I wish other directing students (and a lot of professional directors) would learn.

Kirk [after Commodore Paris says he saved the lives of everyone in Yorktown]: “It wasn’t just me. It never is.”

35) Holy shit, I honestly cannot believe I forgot that Spock found this in Spock Prime’s belongings:

Not only is this a wonderful thing to include in the 50th anniversary of Star Trek but also it is something Spock REALLY needed to see. He wanted to live the life Spock Prime did and he thought that meant continuing the work on new Vulcan. But then he sees that Spock Prime was with the Enterprise crew DECADES into a future. He had a family for life. And so does Spock.

36) It’s hard for your eyes not to fall on Anton Yelchin when Kirk makes a toast, “To the Enterprise and to absent friends.”

37) The fact that the entire main crew of the Enterprise gives the ending monologue for the first time speaks greatly to themes of unity present in the film and Kirk’s giving them credit.

38) And now I’m sad again.

39) “Sledgehammer” by Rihanna.

It’s not often that I talk about an end credits song for a film, but I felt I should make an exception this case. Rihanna is a major Star Trek fan, saying:

“This is something that’s been a part of me since my childhood, it’s never left me, I love Star Trek. It was automatic. I would do anything in terms of music. It’s such a big deal not only as a fan, as a musician… because Star Trek is such a big deal across the globe.”

You can feel the love for Trek come across in the song. Not necessarily a radio pop hit, I love this song nonetheless. I find it moving and it’s themes of fighting back after you get knocked down very much tie into the hope and resilience which is Star Trek. I think it is a wonderful composition and a great addition to the Star Trek musical library.

I love Star Trek Beyond. Although the 2009 film introduced me to the franchise, this film has the potential overtime to claim its place as my favorite Trek film. It is an absolutely perfect balance of old and new Trek, featuring standout writing, amazing effects, new ideas, a vibrant visual design, and a standout cast (with special mention to Sofia Boutella as Jaylah). It is a totally wonderful that taps into the hope and sense of adventure that the series has always been about. 05/17 Esquire Duo-Interview, Part I

<Blue Night, This Was Jonghyun>

What Should We Do With Kim Jonghyun?

*

Shin Kijoo (referred to as “Shin” below): You told me you’d host <Blue Night> forever and ever, so can you explain to me what’s going on right now?

Kim Jonghyun (referred to as “Kim” below): My life is consumed with guilt right now.

Shin: Many people think it’s such a shame. Yesterday, Saturday April 1st, was the last broadcast of our “Midnight Spoiler” corner. And right after this interview, you have to go straight to Sangam-dong to proceed with the final live broadcast of <Blue Night, This is Jonghyun>. There’s only about three, four hours left until midnight already.

Jung Woosung (referred to as “Jung” below): It’s time for listeners and fans alike to prepare their hearts. To prepare to let “Jjong-D” go.

Kim: Because I announced it on radio first. I felt that was the respectful thing to do for our listeners. Since the program airs every night at midnight, it could be disconcerting for me to suddenly vanish out of nowhere. And many of our listeners would wrap up their day by listening to <Blue Night, This is Jonghyun>, so. It’s been a while since I made up my mind. It might have been around the end of last year, it took a little while because I was consulting people around me and deciding on the appropriate timing.

Hi!! I was wondering if you had any advice for a newbie studyblr / bullet journalist ?

Hello there, lovely anon!! ♥ I actually joined the studyblr community pretty recently (just this month!) so I hope I can answer your question well /// !! Since I’m pretty new, there’s still quite a bit I have yet to learn myself!

➸ advice for a new studyblr

Don’t be afraid to just start.

  • Honestly! There’s no need to feel insecure about your posts, spreads, handwriting, picture quality, stationary - everyone in the studyblr community is so sweet and positive and helpful I begin to feel spoiled. I hope you do to!
  • Don’t feel self conscious about anything. You’re beautiful, wonderful, and perfect just the way you are. There is no better you than you!
  • Stop comparing your posts and blog to other people’s. There’s a lot for you to learn, and it won’t all come immediately. Notes, followers - it takes time.

Reach out to other studyblrs!!

  • Say hi, send asks, make friends! Make comments on other’s posts, send compliments or help where you can. Just being active in the community can help you get attention but also give you a wonderful time. A studyblr is to help you grow, and this is a great way to keep you motivated in doing so.
  • Along the same line, try to find ways to interact with your followers!

Tags, Tags, Tags!

  • A lot of studyblrs will track a tag and will often reblog your content if you tag your original posts with it! You can find out what tag to put by checking out a studyblr’s page (for example, I track #studyfeather). You can make a list for yourself if that helps! (: But try not to be too overwhelming or overuse it. Maybe switch up which tracked tags you use from post to post.
  • Make a tag for you to track! It would make sense that if you’re using tracked tags to make one for yourself to spread the love.
  • Have a tag that is specific to your original content (mine is #featherpost)!!! It will make it nice and easy for those who come across your blog to find what you’re posting about. Having original content helps others have more interest in your blog!
  • A lot of what you are reblogging can serve as a resource for yourself. I like to reblog posts that inspire me, or have spreads I might try, masterposts, etc. If its important for you to find what you’re reblogging for later, make a tag system for yourself. For example, heres @ / studypetals’ tags page or @ / studyquill’s navigation page if you need any ideas. This is a great idea if other people begin using your blog as a resource as well.

Take advantage of all the information you see.

  • There are so many posts that address procrastination, time management, stress, note taking, school - anything at all - that is made available to you. It’s one thing to see the information, but it’s another to make use of it. (And don’t be afraid to share your knowledge either!) You can even make posts about trying out different advice if that helps motivate you to try something out.

Make an introductory post!

  • Help others get to know you better by putting together an introductory post! It’s never too late to make one, so don’t worry about making one if your blog has been up for a bit.
  • From what I’ve discovered, introductory posts tend to have the following information (not every one has ALL of this, it’s up to you what you’d like to add): name, age, school year, why you started a studyblr, your classes, some of your favorite studyblrs, other blogs you have (and other sites you’re on), any anything else you’d like to say/add.
  • If you use tracked tags or tag studyblrs you love, it can help get your blog noticed! (:

Post original content!

  • I touched on this earlier, but this is so important. One of the best ways for your studyblr to succeed is posting your own work and sharing it to the community. You never know how many people will love it, be inspired by it, follow you from it, or contact you because of it.
  • Be fairly consistent in posting original content. I try to post at least once a week even though I’m pretty busy. It helps motivate me to keep my bujo and studyblr going! You can try out the 100 days of productivity or some studyblrs put together monthly study challenges you can keep up with. As an example, here’s a May Study Challenge I might try out!
  • In posting original content, make sure you link information you’re referencing to help others that much more!

Queue your posts!!

  • A great way to keep your blog active is to queue your posts. I have my posts queued at 10 each day and try to keep at least 20 posts in my queue at all times, in case a couple of busy days keep me from adding more. Some people unfollow inactive blogs - and this can be a way to prevent it.
  • The only thing I don’t queue are original posts and asks, but it’s up to you if you decide to use the queue system or not!

➸ advice for a new bullet journalist

Real quick!! I would advise taking a look at the bullet journal’s official website to help understand the basics of bullet journaling.

  • It’s designed to be quick and customizable way for you to keep information and tasks organized. A great way to make use of this (that I’ve found) is to make a key for each of your logs. You can see my key here. You can also search tumblr for bujo keys to see what others have come up with. If you do want to make a key, make it so that it works for you!  It can be as simple or detailed as you want, with or without signifiers, etc. If you don’t like this system, that’s just fine!

Discover different journal options and where to find them.

  • There is no set journal to use, however there are popular choices among the studyblr community: Moleskine, Leuchtturm1917, and Muji journals - but it is NOT limited to these. Working with a regular notebook works just fine as well!
  • It’s one thing to find and purchase something online - but I like being able to find what I’m looking for in person. It saves shipping + handling costs, and I get to it immediately. And, sometimes, they can be cheaper too! I found my moleskine journal I’ve been using at Barnes and Noble, and have also seen Leuchtturm1917 journals at my school’s book store. (The temptation is real every time I walk past OTL)

Your bullet journal is for you, so let’s make it that way.

  • A big part of having a studyblr is to help yourself in becoming more productive in learning and improving a lifestyle (or this may just be how I see it). So! There is no set format for you to use a bullet journal. It’s up to you to figure out what works best for you.
  • You can take inspiration from other people’s post to help experiment with different spreads and layouts. (Be sure to credit/tag if you do! Just to be safe.)
  • You can find out different things that you can add to your bujo! Habit trackers, daily/weekly/monthly/yearly spreads, lists of things to keep track of (books to read, tv shows and episodes to watch, shopping/wish lists, bucket list, etc), anything you’re interested in. Depending on your interests and areas you wan’t to use a bujo to help you with, this can vary. If you want, you can test out different ideas to see if you like it or not. It will take time to find what you like, so don’t stress about it in the beginning. You’re just starting, after all!
  • There is always something for you to do, it’s just a matter of finding out what that is. If you need any help of finding something to do, feel free to message me! (As long as you don’t mind me asking a bunch of questions haha.)

Don’t be afraid to use pencil first when making your spreads.

  • Me being me, trusted myself to use pen right off the bat. Boy, do I regret that XD It got to the point where I purchased an erasable pen but I’m finding nothing can beat pencil before pen. But before you erase the pencil - make sure the pen has dried. I can’t stress this enough. I’ve gotten impatient multiple times and go ahead to erase, and instantly wished I hadn’t. You can try to find pens that prevent this from happening, but waiting is the best alternative. Something you can do is make a spread at night, and wait to erase when you wake up in the morning. You can keep your bujo open to the page you worked on for it to dry better.

You don’t need any fancy or expensive stationary.

  • Seeing the pastel highlighters, wide variety of pens and miscellaneous tools it’s easy to think you need to have it all but … you don’t have to have any of it. Especially if you are low on funds, don’t worry about getting anything new. Just work with what you have! I have been using pens I’ve owned for years and have hardly touched to see what I can do with them and am pleasantly surprised! I have a bunch of supplies that I have gotten for school that haven’t been used that I plan on finally putting to use.
  • Your basic school supplies with notebooks, highlighters, pens and pencils, post it notes, can take you as far as you wish!

Having a difficult time coming up with a spread? Here’s some ideas!

  • Try out different hand written fonts. This can include headers/titles and subheaders/subtitles. Try headers, banners, and dividers too! Here’s some different ideas: x | x | x | x
  • Give your spread a theme. Disney, movie, music, history, art, cartoon shows, books - anything at all! This can help with finding art to fill in blank spaces to give your spread some more interest. Here’s a post with a bunch of ideas you could use.
  • Colors! Try out different color combinations! Being an art student, I’m overly conscious of colors. They can help set a mood, evoke certain emotion, some colors work best with others (be smart when using complimentary colors), etc. Here’s a site that covers basic color theory. But … this is me being nerdy. This can take quite a bit of thought - but you honestly don’t have to (: !! It’s best if you stick to one or two colors within a page not to overwhelm what others are seeing, especially if you’re wanting to keep things minimal. If you want me to go deeper into this, and talk more about contrast and whatnot … I can make a separate post as not to clutter this one ♥
  • Make goals for yourself! This can be included in a habit tracker, but doesn’t need to be. They can be as small as going on a 20 minute walk each day during this week, being sure to stay hydrated, doing something with a family member or friend, completing or starting a big project or assignment, etc.
  • Find some quotes and add them! Here’s some quote masterposts I’ve come across: x | x | x | x

When taking pictures, be conscious of lighting.

  • The best kind of lighting is natural lighting. Taking pictures outside (or inside) during the day will help your image quality! I know before I said picture quality doesn’t matter much, but this can be a simple and easy way to help improve your posts.
  • If natural lighting isn’t helping you the way you want, you can take a look at different apps with photo editing capabilities or filters. I have a horrible app finding ability, and just use Photoshop (you can get PS CS2 for free here) or Clip Studio Paint to edit my photos. My favorite tool to use is the tone curve. However you can see this post to look at other options, like apps (it also links to other posts you can look at)!

Have a good time!

  • Honestly, I feel this is what it boils down to. As long as you are enjoying what you’re doing and continue to have a passion for studyblr related content, you’ll succeed. Don’t stress about it and take one post at a time.

I’ll start putting together a post of how I started my studyblr in case that may help as well! Thank you for asking, anon! Hopefully this helps, and that I was able to cover everything! T o T Sorry I kinda went on a bit of a tangent in some areas.

Being in love with your mortal enemy is only acceptable when you’re under a spell.

Update: In the two and a half months or so since I read Carry On, my Word document of fanfiction is now just under 30,000 words long. … Though now that uni is back I probably won’t be writing as much (that said, I’ll probably think of some great new idea overnight that I can’t wait to start writing). Maybe I should write shorter fics. Anyway, here is 7.5k words of fluff.

Can’t Sleep Without You

a/n: Not requested, but something that just popped into my head. A lot of stress and not enough sleep makes me want Shawn in my life so much.

Masterlist

~~~
It has been a few weeks since your last solid night’s sleep. You honestly are not really sure what has been going on with you or why you haven’t been able to sleep well. You’ve spent so many nights tossing and turning in bed, unable to get a peaceful rest, but then the morning comes and you practically feel like a zombie. These last four days have been the worst, and it doesn’t help that you’re in the middle of midterms so you have a lot of exams and presentations. For some reason, no matter how tired you are, you just can’t sleep well when night comes. It could be due to stress, since these last few weeks have been uncharacteristically stressful, or because you’re missing your boyfriend who you haven’t seen in a month, and you’re just tired of having to sleep without him every night.
The one good thing that has come out of the fact that you haven’t been sleeping more than a few hours a night for the past four days is that you’ve been awake to text your boyfriend whenever he has a free minute. He’s off traveling in Europe for work so the time difference is pretty big considering you’re in LA. Normally this would mean you barely get to talk to him much, since you’re both so busy. However, every night this week, Shawn’s texted you at about three in the morning LA time because that is when he’s been free, and you’ve been able to respond because you’ve been awake. He, of course, questions why you’re awake in the middle of the night, but you’re unable to offer him much of an explanation because you’re never quite sure yourself, considering you’re so exhausted, but yet sleep won’t come.
