but i just didn't want to leave any of these out

cinderella: redo

so i was watching cinderella while doing my nails and waiting for them to dry which was clearly a Mistake because now i can’t help but think -

the evil stepmother was always evil, okay. say her abuse of her own daughters was different than that of cinderella’s - but it was still abuse. giving them impossible expectations, telling them they were never good enough, never pretty enough, never smart enough. and then she gets married, and anastasia and drizella are ecstatic because this man seems kind and warm and maybe just maybe he can temper their mother, maybe with him around she won’t be so cruel. so they’re on their very best behavior in the beginning, they do just as their mother taught - they trot out their best upper court manners in an attempt to get their new stepfather to like them. but it just comes off as cold and snooty and they’re trying, they are, they’re just bad at it. and they see how he is with cinderella, the smiling girl their own age, and they are jealous. they don’t mean to be, they try not to be, they know it isn’t becoming of young ladies. but she gets hugs and kisses and affection and they get rulers slapped on their hands when they reach for desert and sharp jabs to their sides when they slouch and - soon they hate cinderella, not for anything she’s done, but for what she has and they dont

but then her father dies. and it’s all a tumble of things and cinderella is crying and they’ve lost their only chance at escaping their mother’s clutches and it’s terrible. and everything settles and there’s no reason to be jealous anymore but resentment is hard to let go of and they don’t know what to do. they’re only kids too after all. and they’re so terribly bad at comforting people, they can do flowery words and know all the right bows but cinderella is so sad and they just don’t know what to do with that, because they’re supposed to be sisters but they’re not even friends

and slowly but surely their mother starts abusing cinderella, starts making her a maid in her own home, and she’s their mother, what are anastasia and drizella supposed to do? she rules them with an iron fist, and cinderella doesn’t even like them anyway, it’s none of their business.

except one night anastasia crawls into her sister’s bed in the middle of the night and wakes her up. “i was thirsty,” she explains, eyes wide and shiny, and they’re bad at this with other people but drizella has no problems with pulling anastasia into her arms. the younger girl clutches her sister and continues, “i was thirsty and i went down to the kitchen to get some water and - and cinderella is still up! she’s doing the dishes, and she should be asleep, mom is going to make her make breakfast in the morning and -” she cuts herself off with a hiccup and whispers, “it’s not fair.”

“life isn’t fair,” drizella says, echoing one of their mother’s favorite phrases. but her sister is staring at her with wet eyes, and it’s not like their mother is likely to get up before sunrise anyway, she hates waking up, so she pulls herself and anastasia out of bed and off they go.

Listen I know we all love bilingual Lance and boy oh boy guess who’s here with some bilingual headcanons!!

•Lance used to speak fluent spanish as a child, but when he started going to public school, he just … Lost that ability.
•Lance can understand some words and phrases in spanish but doesn’t really know how to form sentences. (he knows all the cursewords and tries to use them as much as he can bc that’s Cool™)
•He can understand enough words to get the gist of what people are saying.
•Lance started to feel kind of detatched from his family since he couldn’t speak spanish and basically everyone else (save for the younger kids) could.
•His family doesn’t put any effort into teaching him spanish bc they want him to be more American than Hispanic (a sad truth that I unfortunately experienced)
•Lance starts to take spanish classes seriously when he gets to high school. He slowly learns how to form proper sentences, and he’s at the top of his class bc he wants to connect with his family language-wise. He tries hard, and grasps the language without any help from his fluent-spanish-speaking parents.
•One time, he had to do a project in spanish class, but he didn’t know how to form the sentence he wanted. So, he goes to his parents for help.
•Big mistake.
•His parents are from different regions of south america, so they speak different forms of spanish. Whatever he’s learning at school is. Not. The same.
•He had to go back and forth from his dad to his mom for one goddamn question like holy crow.
•"No, no! Your father is wrong! I speak PROPER spanish!“
-That was an actual quote from my mother it’s legit.
•His father ends up being right. At least in terms of School Spanish.
•Lance’s teacher ended up taking points away anyway bc she knew he wasn’t capable of speaking in such eloquent, complex spanish.
•He once went over his vocab list with his fam since he forgot his spanish dictionary at school. Another mistake. Don’t ask your different-spanish-speaking parents for translations when they’re in the same room.
•They spent more time arguing about the translation than actually translating.
•Mom: “Aficion? I’ve never heard that word in my life! It doesn’t exist!”
•"It means ceiling fan, mom.“
•M: “Oh! Then you mean ‘hincha’!”
•Dad: “Hincha?! Are you trying to teach our son slang?!”
•"Wait, that’s slang?!“
•"Well, ya-”
•D: “Aficion es the tiki tiki.”
•M: “No. El tiki tiki es la hincha!”
•They slowly seep into full spanish and Lance is watching on in amusement.
•He ends up texting his aunt about the right answer, and she tells him that it’s aficion.
•Mom loses the argument.
•He has a presentation in class for an oral test. He knows he has a great accent and great understanding of spanish, but when he goes up to speak, he can’t say anything.
•Everything comes out slow and stuttered, but he still gets an A+ bc his pronunciation is on point.
•There’s a non-hispanic/latinx kid in his class. They get straight A’s and speak faster than Lance. Lance is jealous of them. It’s not fair that a person who isn’t surrounded by latin culture can speak it so well, while he can’t.
•They’re the top 2 in the class, but Lance is always second. He’s always second in everything.
•Eventually, Lance learns enough Spanish to understand full sentences. He gets a giddiness in his chest when he can understand EXACTLY what is being said in spanish. He loves it.
•Even when his parents are scolding him in spanish, he tries his best not to smile bc he UNDERSTANDS!! •He tries to get his parents/family to communicate with him in Spanish more bc he’s so proud that he can FINALLY understand them. He feels connected to them again, and loves the feeling of embracing his heritage at last.
•Then … His family asks hin why he never talks back in spanish.
•Lance is still shy and insecure about his spanish, bc sometimes he makes mistakes. And sometimes, fluent speakers are not the nicest when it comes to that. He’s afraid they’ll make fun of him bc he’s still learning.
•He goes to a restaurant that has people who only speak spanish in it. He then has to order from the menu.
•He asks for a soda. When the waitress leaves, his entire family is beaming at him. He asks why.
•They gush about his perfect pronunciation and format. They’re proud of him. They had no idea he knew it so well.
•Lance is almost brought to tears bc his family is just as proud of him as he is - especially on something so important to him.
•He talks and laughs with his family at dinner again after that.
•When he gets in space, he tries to keep himself knowledgeable in spanish. He doesn’t want to forget again.
•He listens to old spanish radio shows and songs all of the time. He listens to sports, no matter which kind, in spanish.
•He tries to teach the other paladins Spanish. He grins when they start cussing under their breath in spanish. Sometimes, the paladins will just slip into it and they’ll forget that they’re speaking another language bc it’s so second-nature to them.
•But Lance notices, and it feels a little more like home.

  • "I get to come home today."
  • "Did you fill out the release forms yet?"
  • "They hooked me up with a bunch of prescriptions. I'm gonna be high as a kite."

Hypothetical Handplates scenario in which Sans realizes he can teach himself Common.

(Ugh, tumblr is making them blurry for some reason so I guess full-view if you want the not-blurry version??)

Convoluted explanation incoming. Handplates is an Undertale fancomic by @zarla-s and if you like Papyrus and Sans, go read it, is good stuff. So I guess this is an AU fancomic of an AU fancomic? I dunno, the idea wouldn’t leave my brain until I did something with it. So. Zarla did a Christmas doodle where Gaster gave the boys a box of ginger cookies that had the word COOKIES on the side in big letters, and because my job gives me way too much time to think about random stuff, I realized something.

In Handplates, Gaster taught the bros to read and write Wingdings but deliberately did not teach them monster Common (ie: English) so they can’t read his nametag or anything. Thing is, Wingdings is a 1:1 substitution cipher for English. Every Wingdings symbol exactly equals an English letter; it’s not a different language, just a different set of pictures. As somebody who has taught herself a fair number of substitution ciphers, there are a few things you look for when you’re trying to translate a code and you don’t have a key in front of you. Most notably, single-letter words (in English they will usually be A or I) or double letters next to each other. Like the OO in “COOKIES”.

Sans is smart. Gaster has fed them junk food before and odds are good Sans knows how to spell “COOKIES”. The word is on the box in huge letters and Gaster just said it out loud, so it is fresh in Sans’ mind. That double-O is a huge tip-off. He would put it together that the word on the front of the box matches what’s inside. Once you figure out a few of the letters, it becomes steadily easier to decode the rest.

I feel like Gaster exposes the boys to enough Common (the nametag, food wrappers, computer monitors, the books Sans sits on) that Sans could pick it up with a proper starting point. Papyrus probably not, because he had a hard enough time with Wingdings, but Sans is eager for any opportunity to undermine Gaster and I’m sure he’d jump at the chance. In this comic he elects not to tell Papyrus, though. He doesn’t know Gaster has cameras in the cell (or even what a camera is) but he’s figured out that Gaster can spy on them somehow, and the last time Gaster caught them learning something he didn’t like, Papyrus got the ever-loving hell beat out of him. So Sans keeps quiet about it for now. And thus starts the long-standing tradition of keeping important secrets from his brother.

On the technical side, it took me a freakin’ week to sketch and outline this whole thing. Coloring and shading only took me like a day. In the meantime Zarla actually kinda addressed the cookie comic, but this was almost done by then so oh well. I’m finding my poses and proportions turn out a LOT better when I’m doodling skeletons, like what, drawing basic anatomy will make you better at anatomy, you don’t say?? A lot of this was a self-challenge to see if I could imitate Zarla’s art style, and I referenced previous Handplates comics a lot for the backgrounds and Sans’ face. Full disclosure: Gaster’s pose up there is basically copied from Zarla’s original comic because I was rushing through to get on to the actual meat of the story. He’s just here for setup. I had fun trying to figure out how to do his Lost Soul head though. Also, I hate Papyrus’ face from the front. Also also, it was tricky trying to convey “mentally translating an unknown alphabet into a known one” when pretty much everyone who sees this comic is already familiar with the “unknown” one and not the “known” one, but I think I pulled it off.

TL;DR- I imitated somebody else’s style to do an AU of an AU; I am not Zarla; Zarla is the creator of Handplates and also Gaster’s pose in the first panel; I like ciphers too much and also I gave the cookies icing because that is the only kind of ginger cookie I know.

1. i don’t know how to say this so i’m just going to say it - don’t text me anymore. don’t call me. don’t ask me how i am when you feel lonely. don’t check up on me. don’t tell me you’re doing well. i don’t want to hear it. i don’t want to hear it because you fucking broke me. GOODBYE.

2. hey, okay, sooo i thought i could be friends with you but it hurts too much. not that you hurt me that much. no, i’m okay. i don’t cry in the shower anymore. some nights i actually fall asleep before 4 a.m. but then there’s some nights where i think about you and her kissing and it’s all that’s on my mind for days. no, no, it’s not like that. it’s not that i love you anymore or that i’m jealous. i just hate you for what you did to me. so yeah, anyways, just thought you should know i don’t want to be friends. hope you’re doing well though. maybe our paths will cross again.

3. i told myself many, many months ago that if i wanted this to work, if i wanted us to be friends, i couldn’t talk to you about my feelings ever again. i couldn’t turn every conversation into our failed relationship. so for many, many months, i’ve been letting it eat at me instead. i don’t want it to eat at me anymore and you don’t want to listen to me whine so i think this has to end. sorry.

4. hey, listen: some days i’m fine, but the smallest things get to me. like i’m pretty sure i saw you on her snapchat story. it’s none of my business, but i’m really mad at you for it. i’m really mad that you still talk to that girl you chose over me and you still like all of these girls’ facebook photos but you never like mine. and it’s not fair for me to be mad at you for having friends or being happy, i have no right to be, you didn’t do anything wrong. but it still gets to me, still eats away at me, still makes me want to knock down your door and ask you why the fuck you had to leave, why you had to do anything you did, why i poured all of my love into you that i didn’t have any left for myself and you took it and gave it to somebody else. god, this hurts. i don’t want you to know how badly this hurts but it does. i’m leaving you and taking this hurt with me.

5. hey, hope you’re doing well, but this still feels like a nightmare i’ll never wake up from. and i’m sorry, i’m so fucking sorry, it’s not fair to you to have to listen to this shit because it’s been two whole years and i’m still not over it. and that’s my problem, not yours. it will never be your fault that i’m so goddamn sensitive. i’ve never been able to get over anything and i hate myself for it. please let me heal. please leave.

6. hey, remember the summer where i hooked up with the first guy who wasn’t you, when you had me blocked on everything and i couldn’t see what you were up to? well, i still read my posts from that summer and i was actually HAPPY. can you believe that? i was actually going about my life without you and i wasn’t thinking about what you did to me. but here i am again, thinking about it and the only thing that’s changed is that you speak to me. and i would love to be friends with you, i would, i’ve been trying so hard to be for months, but it’s making me so damn miserable. and i’m so jealous that she gets to be friends with you and i don’t. i’m sorry i’m not her. i’m sorry i never will be.

7. i’ve been ignoring your messages on purpose and you keep texting me again and it’s exhausting to have to ignore you all of the time and feel so guilty about it. i just don’t understand how you just don’t get the hint. so here’s a bigger one: LEAVE ME ALONE.

8. hey, okay, i know this is sudden but i don’t want to hear from you anymore. i don’t want to think about this anymore. i want to move on with my life and there’s no room for you in it. it was stupid of me to think that just because you’ve always been a good friend to me that we can be friends. we can’t.

9. hey. first off, i want to say i’m sorry, i just need to do what’s best for me. secondly, thank you for always being there when i needed you, but i don’t need you anymore. for now, it has to be just me. it feels like i’m breaking up with you and we’re not even dating, but this is it - this is goodbye. forever. don’t contact me.

10. all you ever did was hurt me. fuck you. i don’t want to see your stupid fucking name on my phone anymore. fucking get out. leave.

—  10 text messages i’m afraid to send because i don’t want to say goodbye to you, not again

Series: 01 |02 |03 |04 |05 |Epilogue

Description: The government is in charge of matching everyone up with a partner, the person they believe you are the most compatible with. You get assigned Jungkook, who looks perfect on his profile and even more perfect in person. You are later reminded however, that perfection does not exist, and not everything in life will go as planned.

You sat across from him, a dark coffee in front of him and a hot chocolate in front of you. You wrapped your hands around your cup, warming your hands as breeze passed. You were hidden in a corner of the coffee shops patio, the only place you could find nearby that would allow you to sit and talk with some privacy. The inside was warm and buzzing with people, a place you would have been more comfortable, but you both knew that your conversation wasn’t one someone could overhear. You looked up at him, his eyes looking down at the dark wood of the table.

“Are you going to say anything?” you asked, clearing your throat. He looked up at you, his lips slightly parted and his eyes wide. He had said he would explain everything to you, but you had yet to hear that explanation.

“I’ve been trying to come up with a way to explain myself myself…,” he said, trailing off as his eyes returned back to the table. You lifted your cup to your lips, taking a sip of the sweet liquid, waiting for him to continue. He picked up a napkin and began to fold it up, trying to occupy himself with something else, as if it would help him get out of it.

“And?” you asked, a little amused at his nervousness. You didn’t want to find it funny, but you did. If you were him, you would be nervous too, but he had no reason to be. It hadn’t been long after finding out about him and Jade that you had decided you would move on without causing any issues, even though those issues would only really be for him.

“And I don’t know how,” he admitted, the anxiety leaking from his voice. You nodded, thankful that you felt in control of the situation. You thought back on the events of the past two days, wondering how they days had managed to feel much longer than they actually were. Maybe it was because before every day had been the same. You stuck to a routine, one that had worked for the time being, but one that you no longer needed. More had happened in the last two days than had happened in the last couple of years, and despite how little it actually was, it felt like you were living, and you liked it, even with the bad it brought you.

Could you write some more supercorp? Just any supercorp? :) how about a jealousy fic where either kara or lena are jealous? And we could throw in some - I wasn't sure if you were going to assassinate me but I'm glad you didn't because I fell in love with you anyway... I'm really bad at this, sorry :D. I would be happy about any story if you have the time :) :) You are amazing, just like in general. I love your writing, delicately crafted and heart-wrenchingly beautiful!

“what on earth is this? and it must be from earth because this, this in front of me?” kara wiggles her finger slightly, somehow encompassing the entirety of the scene in front of her. “this is some earth bull crud.”

“bull crud?”

“don’t change the topic, lena! what is going on here?”

lena narrows her eyes for a moment, before a small annoyingly smug smile crosses her lips. her really nice lips. kara has to focus on something else. not her lips.

“supergirl, are you jealous?”

“what?”

“you’re jealous i got rescued by the guardian.”

“NO.” kara crosses her arms. to prove it, she turns to james and smiles. “thanks for rescuing her by the way, ja- guardian.” the guardian sets lena carefully on the ground and makes a very purposeful thumbs up before taking off around the corner. kara watches through the wall as he jumps into a van and takes off his helmet. if he’s going to be any kind of hero, kara should probably give him some lessons on disguises. sure she has some issues with secrets but at least she waits until she’s hidden before putting on her kara disguise.

“supergirl?”

“i can take you home, if you want,” kara offers. she doesn’t look right at lena because for some reason her insides are all twisty and uncomfortable. “or to the office.”

“supergirl…” kara folds her arms over her chest. lena sighs. “my office. please.”

normally, she would take her time flying lena anywhere. she likes to show her the city and let lena enjoy flying. today, she just wants to leave.

“is everything okay?” lena asks, and she steps in front of her mirror to pat down her hair. “supergirl?” she calls.

kara can still hear her, and the slight trace of hurt, even from several blocks away.

//

“hi kara, it’s lena. i was just wondering if we were still on for dinner tonight. there’s this new restaurant-”

kara presses the off button on the recording grumpily as she paces her living room. she is supposed to meet lena in, she checks her watch, seven minutes and she’s still not sure whether she’s going to go. she has no good reason not to except that her stomach still feels….weird.

people use that as an excuse all the time though, and it makes her stomach feel worse but she types out a message to lena and sends it.

-be there in five, comes lena’s reply and kara stares down at her phone with slowly dawning horror.

lena is coming to her home, where she is in fact not sick or ill or barely clinging to life as she may have implied in her message.

“i see you meant to join me tonight after all,” she says sweetly from the front door which, yeah, alex may be right in saying she should start locking that. “nice dress.”

“oh, uh, thank you.” kara glances down at the dress and flushes. it was the seventh one she had tried on, she’d been as nervous about this as she had with adam or james or- oh no.

“you don’t look sick,” lena says. “if you wanted to stay in tonight that’s all you had to say.”

“I-”

“unless you didn’t want to hang out at all.” lena rolls her eyes to the ceiling, shakes her head. “i’m sorry, how foolish of me. i’ll go-”

“no, no stay.” kara zips to the door, blocks it with her body. “you can stay.” she thinks she’s misreading the way lena is staring at her: a little bit amazed, a little bit in awe, and smug. mostly smug. which makes very little sense but lena makes everything senseless. or she makes kara senseless. kara doesn’t know which, because she doesn’t have the sense to figure it out.

“thank you. you can stop blocking the way, i know when i’m beaten,” lena says, and she places her handbag on the bench. “shall we order in?”

“yes. but no seafood, right?”

“that’s right.” lena looks surprised. “i’m allergic, how did you know?”

kara frowns. “you mentioned it last time we went out.”

“well now i know if i see any around that it’s no honest mistake but an assassination attempt.”

“why would i try to assassinate you?”

“who needs a reason?” lena laughs. “are you sure you’re feeling up to this? you don’t look very well.”

“i’m fine,” kara tells her. “are you alright? i heard you got saved by the guardian.”

“yeah.” she shrugs. seems to glance sideways to kara but why she would do that kara has no idea. “he was alright but supergirl catches me far more neatly. i have a bruise.”

“a BRUISE?”

“it’s alright, I’ll just make sure to never get into trouble without supergirl in the future.”

“good idea.” kara nods, the knot in her stomach dissolving. “good. yeah. she’s great, you do that.”

Lance can feel it burning within, sizzling and searing through his veins like explosive fuses networking through his body. The spark that lit the match had been Pidge’s agonised cries and screams, the destruction that shattered through her armour and broke her body in horrible unknown ways. She should never have been there, if they had have just listened to him…

They hurry into the Castle of Lions, Pidge whimpering and sobbing in Shiro’s arms, fading in and out of consciousness. Lance wants her in the healing pod immediately, but that’s not how it works, they have to prep her first. Or, Coran does.

Lance runs ahead to trigger the automatic door and Shiro rushes in, placing Pidge down on a medical table where Coran is already waiting. A small amount of relief and gratitude soothes through his anger as Coran instantly starts the process, carefully cutting Pidge out of her armour with high-tech Altean equipment Lance doesn’t even know the name of.

Trembling and panting, Lance and Shiro stand and stare, lost in a worried daze.

“You should leave,” Coran says without removing his eyes from his work. Not for any form of privacy for Pidge, they’ve been working closely together for too long for that to matter anymore, but for Coran’s concentration. He knows how important this is and needs to focus.

Shiro turns on his heel and silently nudges Lance in the shoulder. Lance backs out of the room, eyes remaining on Pidge’s small, too-pale face until the sliding door closes between them.

Lance hears the sniffling and sobbing, can see Hunk leaning heavily against the wall in his periphery and slide down it, burying his face in his hands. He knows he should comfort his friend, he usually would, but he’s livid. Furious. Seething. It boils under his skin, bubbling to the surface and on the verge of exploding.

THE RFA BREAK UP POST AH MY HEART!!! Okay. So. What about the MC moving on and finding someone else? And RFA+V+Saeran realize that they still had feelings for her, but it's been a long time(like maybe a year or two) and MC's finally moved on and they just... Don't have a chance? Why am I like this. Why do I want this. I'm awful. (PS I didn't cry when I read the breakup one, no sir, I did not.)

hey i just read your breaking up headcanon and can i ask for rfa+v+saeran regreting their decision but idk maybe its too late or not its up to you

hi can i ask for a sequel of your break up hc like they regretting their choice and trying to get you back

aah these were similar so I figured I could do them all together! hope you like it. A sort of sequel to this

Yoosung

  • It took 14 months for Yoosung to regret everything
  • 14 whole months
  • Once he realises that he does in fact still love you with every ounce of his being, he starts getting weird
  • Like Yandere Mode™ is activated
  • It starts off with the usual social media stalking, and he even has Seven helping him find out things about your life via what you post online
  • But soon enough he’s becoming obsessive, and Seven stops helping so not to let it get worse
  • But it does
  • Not being able to investigate everything he can about you online makes him jealous of anyone you’re in contact with
  • Talking to the guys in the messenger? Not on his watch
  • He becomes insufferable, constantly inserting himself into your conversations, commenting on everything you post online
  • You’re almost certain you’ve seen him in the corner of your eye whilst out and about a few times
  • But that’s just you being paranoid, right?
  • Either way it eventually reaches a point where he’s on your doorstep, begging you to take him back
  • He’s crying and rambling, and he’s quite possibly has something to drink
  • But you don’t love him anymore
  • In fact you’re unsure if you could ever love him again
  • So you tell him this, and it sure as hell is not what he wants to here
  • You’re stuck with a blubbering mess at your door, and have to call Seven to come and retrieve him
  • After this things change drastically
  • He knows he doesn’t have a chance with you, you made that extremely clear
  • He stops stalking your online presence, instead turning to the one comfort he has - his games
  • All he ever does is sit at his computer, playing his games, isolating himself from the outside world
  • Because he doesn’t want to be a part of the outside world if he doesn’t have you.

Zen

  • It really didn’t take long for Zen to regret his decision
  • Like it was probably about 5 months, if that
  • Even the first night when he went to bed alone he had the seeds of doubt growing within him
  • Unfortunately for him, those 5 months were all it took for you to move on
  • You knew it was all for the best, things just didn’t work out
  • But he didn’t think like that, and he wanted you back
  • He tried to be romantic, turning up at your door with flowers, dedicating his performances to you, leaving you voicemails of him singing love songs
  • But you ignored everything
  • You felt guilty ignoring his efforts so much, but it was the only way you would get him to move on like you had
  • How would he let it go if you let him think he was getting somewhere with you?
  • His attempts start getting more desperate, with more and more drunk voicemails being left throughout the nights
  • One of these nights you hear a thump by your front door, opening it cautiously only to find a passed out Zen on the floor
  • You debate just bringing him in until morning, but that would probably give him false hope, so you grab your phone and call Seven to come and help you
  • The two of you manage to get Zen into the car, and you go with Seven to take him home
  • Once there you take Zen inside, helping him to his bed
  • After fetching a glass of water for him, you see he has start to wake up a little
  • Still drunk and groggy from passing out, he thinks he’s dreaming
  • Crying a little, he reaches his hand out to hold yours
  • I love you so much, please just come back to me
  • But his begging still does nothing for you, so you tell him that things will never go back to how they were, and you quietly turn around and leave to go home
  • The next day is surprisingly peaceful, no calls, no visits, no voicemails
  • This continues for weeks, and althought you don’t hear from him you think he’s moving on
  • But you soon find out that isn’t the case
  • Jumin informs you that Zen is drinking much heavier and earlier than he had been previously, and the reason he hasn’t been contacting you is because he’s usually too drunk to even move, that is of course if he hasn’t passed out
  • You lose count of times you wake up to find him passed out on your doorstep, because no matter what happens or how much time passes, he always finds his way back to you, even when you don’t want him to
  • You are after all the love of his life, and he doesn’t know any different than to go to you.

Jaehee

  • She thought she was doing the right thing
  • She thought she had made the right decision
  • But one night whilst watching Zen’s latest romance film for the 100th time she realises it would have been your 5 year anniversary
  • Had you not broken up two years ago that is
  • She’s been so damn busy with work, she’s barely had time to think about how she feels
  • But here she is, suddenly swimming in memories of the two of you
  • It doesn’t take long for her to realise she’s full of regret
  • How could she let you go?????
  • It’s late now, so she decides to just sleep on it
  • Waking up she’s hopeful it was just a night of reminiscing
  • It wasn’t
  • If anything, she feels even stronger
  • She suddenly can’t stop thinking about running her hands through your hair, the glimmer in your eyes, the way your hand fits perfectly into hers
  • Every little detail she overlooked before were now screaming to be seen
  • It also just so happened this was the day of the RFA meeting, and she was going to have to see you
  • She got lost in your eyes as you spoke to the group about the guests for this particular party
  • She doesn’t even know what was said
  • After the meeting she casually makes comment to Jumin about how happy you looked
  • That’s when he says the one thing she never wanted to hear
  • Well it’s probably because of the new girl they’re seeing
  • Her heart literally shatters as he says the words
  • Jaehee doesn’t really know how to handle this??
  • Why at the same time she realised what a monumental mistake she made by ending things with you, did she have to find out there was someone else making you happy
  • Her way of dealing with it is pretending everything is normal
  • Not you or anyone else ever notices, she hides it so well
  • If you had known, maybe you would realised you felt the same
  • But you never find out, so you never reflect on how you feel about her
  • She supports you in your relationship, and seems to get on really well with your girlfriend
  • But when no one is looking, her eyes well up, and the occasional one escapes
  • She cries herself to sleep more often than she’d ever be willing to admit
  • Seeing you and your new girlfriend happy together breaks her heart over and over again
  • She would kill to be the one making you smile like that, just like she used to.

Jumin

  • He’s always prided himself on his ability to ‘kill his feelings’
  • And when he ended your relationship, he did this easily
  • It didn’t take long for him to revert to his old ways, being stiff and generally unwelcoming
  • He was civil to talk to, but he was so different to the person who had you inside his head for three years
  • The breakup felt like it had almost killed you
  • It took you a very long time to get over it, because you never had any closure
  • But then you met someone, someone who let you in from the start, who treated you like you were the single greatest thing on earth
  • You still had a lot of hurt in you from Jumin, but this new person was like a breath of fresh air
  • As things get more serious, you start bringing them around the group more
  • Up until the first time Jumin meets them, he had no idea you were even considering dating other people, let alone be in a serious relationship with someone
  • He’s polite, but doesn’t make much of an effort with them
  • He ??? doesn’t ??? know ??? what ??? this ??? feeling ??? is ???
  • It feels like his heart is actually aching, but that’s just illogical, surely?
  • That night he sits with Elizabeth, drinking his wine and trying to figure out what is going on with him
  • The best thing he can think to do is call up the person who knows him better than himself, and he does so, explaining these strange feelings to his best friend
  • V chuckles softly, a hint of sorrow in his voice as he tells Jumin what it is
  • Jealousy
  • He hangs up, shifting Elizabeth and walks over to his penthouse windows, looking out at the night sky
  • V is right, and Jumin knows it, but there’s nothing he can do
  • He is the one who ended things after all
  • He can’t swoop in now and hope to have you back
  • His solution is to obviously stomp out the feelings, but it doesn’t work
  • He cant get you out of his head, you even haunt his dreams now
  • So instead he distances himself from the RFA more and more, only speaking with V on a regular basis
  • RFA parties can’t be avoided, so when the winter party finally arrives, he doesn’t have a choice but to go
  • Seeing you hurts him, but no one could have prepared him for what happened
  • Your significant other proposed, in front of everyone, right in the middle of the room
  • You were so happy and excited you didn’t see Jumin’s tall figure quietly leaving the building
  • But V did, and for a brief second, he almost thought he saw a glistening tear making it’s way down Jumin’s face.

Seven

  • About 6 months after that party, you started to feel better
  • To say you were completely over him would be a stretch, but it didn’t feel like the world was crashing around you whenever you saw him
  • As you started accepting the relationship was over and letting go of it, Seven slowly started joining back in with the RFA more
  • It doesn’t take long for the two of you to become relatively close again
  • But it’s different
  • You still love him, but it just feels platonic now
  • It didn’t seem possible that you would ever get to a place where you could be happy in his presence again, yet here you are
  • The pair of you spend a lot of time together, but you still manage to start dating again
  • A lot of people are uncomfortable with how close you are to your ex, except one
  • They’re so perfect ???
  • You can’t believe it ???
  • If you thought you were happy when you were with Seven, you were wrong, this was genuinely the happiest you had ever been
  • Little did you know that during those months where you were rebuilding your friendship with Seven, it was bringing back more than just platonic love for him
  • Without even realsing he found himself madly in love with you again all of a sudden
  • He just wanted to have you at his side all the time
  • And whilst you did spend a lot of time together, it wasn’t how he wanted it
  • He stalked your new significant other online within an inch of their life
  • Everything they ever posted or was posted about them he found
  • But there was nothing in there to use to get rid of them
  • They were a good person
  • But even so, everday before he went to sleep, he would check again
  • One day he would find something, to keep this person away from you
  • He had to find something
  • Slowly as your relationship progressed, Seven started holding himself back, once again isolating himself from everyone but V
  • He didn’t know how he was supposed to live a life where someone else made you smile the way he used to.

V

  • A little part of him always harboured some feelings for you still
  • He knew he would never completely move on, but he didn’t expect this
  • It had been a little over a year since he broke off your relationship
  • You were less bitter, so he saw this as a sign of you having moved on
  • But something about that just didn’t sit well with him
  • Had you really let it go?? Did you really no longer have those feelings for him??
  • For a long time it seemed like you would never move on
  • So now that you had, he hated it
  • It didn’t take long for him to realise
  • He was still in love with you
  • The second it was clear to him, he wanted to drop everything and run to you, just to plead for a second chance and tell you how much he loved you, how he had been so stupid to give up such a perfect person like yourself
  • But he didn’t
  • You finally looked happy
  • And if that didn’t make his heart feel light and airy, he didn’t know what would
  • He knew how much he had hurt you, and he didn’t believe he deserved a second chance no matter how much he wanted it
  • So he chose to keep his feelings to himself, never telling a living soul about how much he craved curling up with you every night
  • How he craved to feel your hot breath on his lips again
  • How he craved to see you smile because of him again
  • He spends his time pretending he doesn’t love you
  • Just seeing you happy and healthy is enough for him
  • Even if not having you by his side physically hurts him
  • Whenever he hears you laugh he has to actively stop himself from daydreaming about a life where you were his once more
  • Unlike the others, it’s not because you’ve moved on that he never gets you back
  • He just thinks it’s for the best
  • But if he had told you how he felt, he would have found out you were still in love with him too
  • Instead you both continue to hurt, both wishing the other would reach out
  • But neither of you ever do, and neither of you ever get over the other.

Saeran

  • He was wrong
  • He was so fucking wrong
  • He doesn’t even know why he said it
  • Of course he loved you, of course he still loved you
  • But he had said it, and he had shattered your heart into so many pieces he could never fix it
  • So he never tried
  • It took a long time for you to get over it, at least 3 years to be specific
  • But you got there eventually
  • Looking at him didn’t hurt
  • Being in his presence didn’t make you nauseous
  • Hearing his voice didn’t make you want to scream
  • What you didn’t know is that it was the other way around now
  • Looking at you hurt
  • Being in your presence made him nauseous
  • Hearing your voice made him want to scream
  • He knew he had left it far too long now, and you were finally happy
  • There hadn’t been much if any relationship between you since the breakup, so when he started isolating himself you didn’t even notice
  • It was Seven who reached out to you, telling you something was wrong with his twin but he didn’t know what and he didn’t know how to help
  • So being the person you are, you went over there to try and speak to him
  • It was awkward at first, you had barely spoken in 3 whole years
  • But you wanted to help him so you pushed and pushed
  • Eventually he snapped and and blurts out that he can’t handle his feelings for you anymore
  • You’re taken aback by his confession, which is followed up by a question you dreaded answering
  • With what almost seemed like tears in his eyes, he quietly begged for you to just tell him you still loved him too
  • The only thing he wanted to hear, you couldn’t say
  • He asked you to leave after you told him you didn’t, and you did so without putting up a fight
  • The last thing you wanted to do was make the situation worse
  • For the first time in a long time, Saeran cried himself to sleep
  • He distanced himself from the group slowly, only speaking via Seven
  • But he always kept an eye on you, because even if you didn’t love him, he wanted to keep you safe and happy
  • You were the first person he truly loved, and you would also be the last.

A/N: while i was writing that crapton of letters yesterday, i worked on this for the next three house into the early morning. hopefully yall like it, i almost fell asleep writing the rest (i was eager to send it out) SPECIAL THANKS AGAIN TO @sorry-but-no-sorry for the translations!

Part 1 Part 3

You backed away from the man in front of you, your heart beating faster and faster. “I’m not supposed to be here, I’m not supposed to be seeing you, here. Oh no…” You mumbled, falling onto the ground. Alexander looked shocked, running over to you. You moved out of his frantic hands.

“Are you okay? I’m trying to help you!” He yelled as you avoided his touch. You didn’t know what would happen if he touched you. It might change the whole timeline, and you didn’t want that. This conversation that you two were exchanging was bad enough, better not add fuel to the fire.

“Don’t touch me, Alexander.” You hissed, glaring at him. He sighed, rubbing his head in annoyance.

“At least tell me your name, miss. You seem to be in distress.” You debated whether to tell him, looking into his eyes. He didn’t seem as threatening as before, and reminded you more of a nurse than a soldier. You bit your lip.

“Y/N Y/L/N. That’s my name.” You whispered. He smiled at you, holding out a hand.

“Okay, miss Y/N. Would you let me help you?” You considered his hand, before finally placing yours in his. They were soft and warm, unlike yours which were hot and sweaty. Once you were up on your feet, you pulled your hand out of his, backing away. He stared at you for a few moments. “Where did you come from? How did you get on the battlefield?”

You opened your mouth to answer, but you were interrupted by the sound of a horn. You saw men running out of their tents, towards the noise. Alexander ran into his tent, and came out with another jacket, and his hat on his head. Before he ran off, his gaze went back to you, forgetting that you were still standing there. He put his hand in yours, guiding you into the tent.

“Stay here, miss Y/N. Do not leave this tent.” He said firmly, his eyes glancing back to the field. “These men haven’t seen a woman in months. Stay out of sight until I come back.” He ran back out, leaving you alone. You looked around, noticing piles of letters and various weapons scattered about.

This was real. You were really in the late 1700s. And you just met Alexander Hamilton, the founder of the financial system. One of the founding fathers of the United States of America.

“And he is as handsome as they said.” You mumbled, sitting on the edge of the cot. You made sure to not touch anything in the room, not wanting to mess up the future even more than you already did.

You had to be there for about two hours, sitting still. Your eyes were droopy, closing and opening sporadically. Soon, you were unable to keep them open, falling onto the ground. It didn’t matter to you, though, because you were already asleep, dozing away.

You heard voices coming closer to you, causing you to flick open your eyes, your gaze trained on the entrance. You groaned at the awkward position on the floor, rubbing your neck.

“You do not want us to go your tent, why?” You heard a French accent, speaking broken English. You looked around the room frantically, searching for anything to hide in.

“You have a woman in there, don’t you?” A deep voice said, laughing loudly. You spotted the empty space under the bed, and quickly slid under, pulling the sheet down so that they couldn’t see you.

“What? No, of course not.” You recognized Alexander’s voice, and your breath quickened, staring at the underside of the mattress. “Hey, don’t-!” The tent door opened, and you heard a small gasp.

“Oh my gosh, there it is!” The deep voice said. You could see the outlines of the shadows, and you gulped.

C'est quoi? (what is it?)” The French voice came in, and you were clueless on what he was saying. Your French 1 Class in high school didn’t help you at all with his speech. You heard another voice, softer than the rest.

“Herc, what are you talking about? I don’t see anything.” The voice said. You closed your eyes, like this would make it better. The man, you now knew as Herc, bellowed a laugh, and you heard a slapping sound.

“Exactly, there’s nothing here. More than that, there’s no one here. Why were you so afraid of us coming in here?” Herc said. Alexander laughed, and you heard him walking around the room.

“Um, nothing. I just haven’t cleaned in here in a while.”

“You’re the funny, mon ami.” The Frenchman said, and you heard footsteps walking towards the bed. The man sat down on top of it, the metal creaking in protest. You gulped, staring at the sinking mattress that was inches from your face. A small part of you hoped that this whole experience was just a nightmare.

“Thanks, Laf.” Alexander replied, and you quickly put together that he was the one on the bed. To tell him that you were hiding underneath, you grabbed at his ankle. He yelped, causing the other men in the tent to stop talking. “Uh, sorry guys. I just remember that I forgot to clean my musket.” He said quickly. There was silence, and you wondered if they had suspicious looks on their faces. You held in your laughter, covering your mouth.

“You did have sex, didn’t you? Was it someone from the brothel?” Herc said, causing laughter from the other men. You rolled your eyes at his comment, fighting off the urge to yell at him. The bed moved, and you peeked out from under the sheet, only able to see the feet of the men.

“Okay, it’s about that time for me to rest. Can you three leave now?” Alexander grumbled. You heard shuffling and complaints, but soon, it grew quiet again. The sheet was thrown up, and Alexander’s face appeared in front of yours, inches away. You saw the blush form on his cheeks, and he backed up, holding out his hand again. “Need some help?” He asked.

You took his hand, the second time today, and dragged yourself from under the bed. You stood up, wiping off your sweats and tank top. You removed his coat earlier, not wanting to get it dirty. He looked away from you, sighing loudly. “Can you please put one of my uniforms on? I know it will not fit, but anything is better than what you are wearing.” You looked down at your outfit, then back at him.

Of course, you completely forgot that women wore the most conservative clothing in this time, and a tank top and sweats might be like you wearing your underwear. You turned to grab a shirt behind you, pulling it over your torso. “You can look now, Alexander.” You mumbled, scratching your head. He turned back, relief on his face.

“Thank you, Miss Y/N. It was hard for me not to stare.” He widened his eyes at what he said, covering his mouth quickly with his hand. You smiled at the cute expression, warmth filling your cheeks.

“Hey Hamilton, I forgot to tell you-“ The voice stopped talking, and you looked behind to see a dark, tall man, with a headband around his head. He looked at you, then at Hamilton, then back to you. A small smirk began to tug at his cheeks, his grin becoming wider and wider. You focused your eyes on Hamilton, and he gave you a sheepish grin.

Wow, and they said he was a fast talker?

“Uh, Herc, this is Miss Y/N. Miss Y/N, this is-“

“Hercules Mulligan. The tailor spy?” You mumbled, looking at him. He didn’t seem to hear what you said, but held out his hand. You put your hand out, ready to shake his. Instead of the clasp of hands that you expected, he pulled your hand up to his lips, kissing it softly. You widened your eyes at the gesture, and he wiggled his eyebrows at you.

Huh, the playboy aspect was true. And the fact that he looked exactly like the actor who played him in the play. You were starting to question if this was the past, or if it was an alternative future.

As your mind boggled around these facts, two more men walked into the tent, their eyes on you. The tall one, whom you guess was Laf, smiled at you, his curly hair wrapped into a bun on the back of his head. The shorter one, with freckles scattered across his face, gave you a flirty smile. His hair, too, was pulled back. And they all looked like the actors. Like the people, you saw on google images.

“This is too much for my heart.” You mumbled, putting your face in your hands. You felt a hand touch your back, and peeked to see Hamilton looking at you, concerned. “Are you okay?” He asked. You sighed, rubbing your temple.

“Do any of you have Advil? All of this is giving me a serious headache.” They stared at you strangely, then looked at Hamilton. The man gave them a shrug.

“So, where did you find this woman? She seems different from the ones you meet at a brothel.” Hercules said, glancing at you. You frowned, irritated.

“If you call me a prostitute one more time-“ You hissed, glaring at the Irishman. Hamilton stood in the middle of you two, holding up his hands.

“Hey, hey, let’s stop all of this fighting for right now. First, we need to figure out how you got here, Miss Y/N.” He said, turning back to you.

“How she got here? Mon ami, did you bring her here not?” Laf said, crossing his arms. Laurens walked to the opposite side of him, leaning on Hercules’s arm.

“You know you’re not allowed to bring women to the camp, Hamilton. It’s against Washington’s rules. He does not like hijinks around here.” Laurens said, eyeing you. He seemed like a small and nice guy, but it was the opposite when he opened his mouth. You put your hands into fists, your anger rising.

“I swear if you guys keep on calling me a whor-“

“Miss Y/N, please, just explain to us how you got here. And then we could figure out how to get you back home.”

You sat down on the bed, explaining your story from the beginning of your day to now. The boys were surprised that there was motorized carriages, and technology that allowed you to look for anything you wanted. (Hercules asked if he could look up naked women. When you said yes, you could have sworn his eyes launched out of their sockets) Laurens, Lafayette and Hamilton wanted to know the outcome of the war, but you refused to tell them that information, saying that it might change history.

“How do we know you’re not lying?” Laurens asked, still suspicious. Hamilton looked at you, expectantly.

“Maybe I could tell you something that a stranger might not know?” You asked, hoping your hours of researching could help you. But then you remembered that you had a pen in the pocket of your sweats, so you immediately ran over, digging through it.

“I have never met a woman like her.” Hamilton mumbled, a small blush on his face. Your back was turned, so you were unable to see this. Mulligan nudged his arm, winking at his friend.

After you found the pen, you held it up. “This! This is a pen.”

Their faces stayed straight. “You know how you have to dip your quill into the ink jar, right?” They nodded. “Well, you don’t need a ink jar for this. If you could give me a piece of paper, I could show you guys.” Lafayette pulled a paper out of one of Hamilton’s files, passing it to you. You thanked him, and called all of them over to Hamilton’s desk, placing the paper down. They all looked at you in awe as you wrote words on the paper, their eyes dream-like.

“Comme c'est intéressant (How interesting).” Laf mumbled, watching your hand. You stopped writing, looking back at the men.

Hamilton eyes were the widest, and he took the pen out of your hand, examining it closely. “How does this happen? Is this sorcery?” He mumbled, putting it closer to his eye. You pulled it away, and fingers brushing against each other’s.

“Don’t hurt yourself, Hamilton. It’s not a toy.” Mulligan laughed at your comment.

“I like her, she’s feisty.”

“So, do you believe me now?” You asked the men. They looked at each other, and then back at you. Laurens was the first to nod, and Lafayette joined in after. Mulligan smirked, and you took that as a yes. Hamilton, the last, stared at the pen in your hands, and then back at you.

“Yes, I trust you.” He said.

anonymous asked:

could you do msr cuddling for comfort pls? (7 from prompt list)

Set immediately after “Paper Clip”.

“You don’t have to stay here with me, Mulder. I’m fine.” The words feel heavy on her tongue; just as heavy as his arms around her shoulder. She wants to push him away from her and she wants to cling to him here in the sterile hospital room that’s void of her sister’s presence.

“You need to go home, Scully. Where is your mother? I thought maybe you could stay with her for a while.” Disappointment bubbles up inside of her. She can’t recall the last time Melissa smiled at her, made fun of her. The only picture in her head right now is not of her sister. It’s her mother blinking away angry tears. ‘I need some time alone, Dana’, and all she could do was watch her mother shoulder her purse and leave her other daughter, the one who was still alive, here in the dead room. She had not been there when her sister, her mother, all her family had needed her most. Her punishment now is her solitude; the one she used to fight for all through her childhood.

“She went home,” she tells Mulder evenly, not allowing her emotions outside, “She wanted to be alone.” Right now, Scully imagines, she’s calling her brothers and giving them the news. There’ll be unspoken allegations and questions; Dana’s fault, she can almost hear Bill’s voice in her head. Is this about Dana? Charlie might ask, never jumping to conclusions head first, always ready to give his big sister the benefit of a doubt. This time, though… she doesn’t deserve it. The bullet had been aimed at her and she feels it almost, pain spreading in her abdomen, but someone else had taken it for her. Her sister.

“Let me take you home then,” Mulder’s voice is gentle, yet persistent, “You shouldn’t be here.” He’s wrong, of course. She should be here. It should have been her. Were Melissa here, she would laugh at her. Things happen for a reason, Danes. This crime, though, there is no reason for it. No sense in it. It should have been her, not Melissa. Scully turns to Mulder, her vision slightly blurry.

“I’m fine, Mulder. You go home. These last few days haven’t been easy for you either.” He shakes his head and she feels it more than she sees it.

“I’m not leaving here without you. Come on.” he says but Scully remains frozen, her eyes fixated on the empty hospital bed; she can’t believe Melissa has been here and is gone now. A world without her seems implausible.

“I can’t go home, Mulder.” Her voice is barely above whisper and when Mulder doesn’t react, she fears he didn’t hear her. Then his hand is on her shoulder, strong and certain.

“You can stay with me. Just let’s get out of here, all right?” She can’t. She just can’t. “Please.” He adds, his voice almost breaking and finally she nods.

The drive to his apartment is quiet. She doesn’t have any clothes with her, no overnight bag, nothing. He asks if she wants to take a shower and she shakes her head no, but changes her mind and gives him a nod instead. Mulder rummages through his drawers and finally comes up with a faded T-Shirt and a pair of sweatpants.

“They should almost fit.” His smile is warm, gentle, and she mouths a thank you as she takes the clothes from him. They smell clean and faintly of him. She locks herself in his bathroom, takes off all her clothes and crumples them up. She throws them into a corner knowing she’ll never wear them again.

When she emerges twenty minutes later, Mulder is making up his couch. He gives her an apologetic look and continues trying to make the couch as comfortable as possible.

“Where will you sleep?” Scully asks him. She’s seen his bedroom or rather the room where his bed should be.

“Don’t worry about me. I’m sorry I don’t have a real bed for you.”

“Mulder, you need to sleep, too.”

“Nah, I’ll be fine. Really, Scully. Don’t worry about me.” How can she not worry about him? His face shows exhaustion and something she interprets as sorrow. A look he reserves for his sister usually. This time she knows it’s for her sister, for Melissa. She doesn’t know what passed between these two when she was in the hospital, grasping for her own life. Melissa had merely smiled when she’d asked about it and Mulder? He hadn’t said anything except that he couldn’t believe she and Melissa were sisters.

“Scully?” His voice jolts her back to reality; a reality where she can’t ask her sister for advice, ask her to comfort her, be there for her in return. Tears constrict her throat and Scully refuses to let them fall. It might be easy for Mulder to show her this side of him; this vulnerable man, who is not invincible, who doesn’t know how to handle things and dives in first. A man who sleeps on the couch, lulled to sleep by the sound of fish swimming in a darkness illuminated by their tank, hoping his demons won’t find them in the faint light.

“Mulder, I want you to – could you stay here with me?” His surprised expression soon gives way to an uncertain smile.

“Of course,” he clears his throat, “If that’s what you want.” Scully nods and sits down on the couch. It feels soft and surprisingly right. She stares up at Mulder, who switches off the lights before he carefully lies down behind her. Scully, still in her upright position, feels him there; his warmth a comfort she is not ready to allow herself just yet.

“Just try to sleep, Scully.” But she is afraid to close her eyes. She is afraid that her demons might find her here in this strange apartment. Mulder’s hand comes up to touch her back. When she doesn’t stop him, he begins to gently draw circles there.

“It’ll be all right, Scully. I promise. I’ll be here.” Just as a test, she closes her eyes. Soothing darkness, nothing else. Opening her eyes again, she draws up her legs and lies down. Their bodies barely touch and it’s not enough. Scully scoots back until her back is to his chest. She feels him startle and recover quickly. His arm tentatively comes up and lands on her hip. Scully feels the question in the air; is this all right? She takes his arm, warm and strong, and puts it fully around her. She clasps his hand, whispers a kiss against it, and blinking a few times, she finally closes her eyes for real. Mulder breathes against her neck, the steady rhythm a gentle lullaby.

“You sleep, Scully,” he whispers against her, “I’ll keep you safe.” And she trusts him, lets herself fall. When she wakes up hours later, a nightmare or maybe just a memory, he tightens his arm around her, leaves a kiss on her neck that they’ll never speak about again and promises her to make it all better.

And she believes him.

Hey, I just finished the tog series and I don't understand why lorcan betrayed aelin? Why did he summon maeve? I thought he was falling in love with elide so I don't get why he would do that and also why he was devastated when maeve broke the blood oath. Didn't he say he wanted to go to perranth with elide?

The answer to your first question or two is simple, while the last one is more complicated.

To answer why he betrayed Aelin or summoned Maeve, can be long or short. The short answer was that he actually had no loyalty to Aelin and he was trying to protect Elide.

The longer answer is that when he summoned Maeve, it was at a point in time where he thought that there was a ship full of enemies come to kill/capture them. They had just used all of their power fightings so they would have absolutely no chance of succeeding. Lorcan has been abused for the past 100 years plus some, in these years the relationships he has had have been surface level or based around survival.

Elide is the first individual to ever really mean something to him or show him affection, probably in his whole life

. His being is centered around that.

All he has ever tried to do is protect and fight for himself, those are really the only skills and emotional capacity he has developed. So when he began caring for Elide, Gaverielsthose transferred onto her.

Now, we have seen that he does display loyalty to the cadre. This is rare and hard to come by, but we see it when he ran to help Aedion in QoS simply because he was Gavriel’s son. These loyalties come from years of surviving abuse and trauma together, though that does not change that Lorcan never developed or had a loving relationship (once or twice if at all), but he did respect this cold, but loyal, survival kinship with the cadre. Calling Maeve would not endanger them since they were all sworn to her anyway besides Rowan. As for Rowan, we see that Lorcan felt a deep betrayal at Rowan leaving with Aelin. Rowan was the closest thing Lorcan had to an actual friend, he actually felt close and connected to him over all the other cadre members. This was because Lorcan is almost, if not as, powerful as Rowan so they were often sent on missions for months together. Rowan was the closest thing he ever had to family, a brother. And Rowan just left Lorcan with Maeve, without so much as a backward glance. Before, Rowan was grief stricken and cold like Lorcan. He felt comradery to him. Then Rowan left him to become more emotional, feeling, and to have a court, a family, with other people. This genuinely was both a physical, relational, and emotional betrayal of sorts for Lorcan. While I certainly do not blame Rowan or think he should not have done anything differently, that does not mean we wouldn’t expect Lorcan to react this way. We often see this with people in real life. Trauma victims or abusive victims, when someone else gets out or moves on with their life, while we would hope that most would be happy for the individual, others might feel a sense of abandonment.

And Lorcan, cold and abused, had no moral reason for serving Maeve. She was just a way to achieve status, a way to not be the prey in life and instead be the hunter. Lorcan operates on a kill or be killed mentality, as all his life experience has told him to. It was a survival decision to join Maeve. He says himself, he cares not about the actual battles or why they are doing the things they do, he is so depressed and traumatized that he simply just exists. So, he could care less personally about Aelin and the goodness she represents. He has no personal ties to her, he has only talked to her maybe three times in his life.He only knows himself and Elide when it comes to base instinct. She is the first person to move into his circle of survival, the first time he really has an active role in someone else’s fate. She breached those walls. So when he thought they were under attack, his first instinct and thought are to try to find some way to save himself, and the first person he has come to really care about or have. He barely even thought, he just reacted on a base survival need. He might have paused if this resulted in the death of his cadre, but they were on the same side as him. And while I do not think he wished any harm particularly to Aelin, Rowan, and their court, he was not going to choose them over himself and Elide, nor the cadre, who are his brothers in arms of sorts.

As for why he was devastated that Maeve cut the bond, there is a long list of complicated emotions he was probably feeling. One is simply shame. The culture in throne of glass is very different from where I live or where most people live in today’s world. It is very much based on visible status, etiquette, titles, and honor.  Maeve cut his blood oath in the most dishonorable way she could think of. Lorcan was a street bastard, the lowest you could get in society. The main reason he even took the blood oath was so that he could have a name so he could be something in his world and society. Now, not only has he returned to nothing after years of abuse and torture and trauma, but he also has added dishonor. He basically just became an outcast homeless person.
And the abuse. That I think is the primary reason he reacted the way he did. For 100s of years, Maeve has been in his mind, perverted his actions, forced him to do and endure terrible things. basically ruled his entire existence. He can barely remember the world without Maeve. It’s the same concept you see when sex trafficking victims who have been rescued try to return to their captors, why domestic violence victims lie to law enforcement and say they aren’t being abused, why kidnapped victims will fight and defend their captors against law enforcement trying to rescue them. Brainwashing, Stockholm syndrome, confusing their identity, making their abuse and their captors become essential to their survival, whatever you want to call it. HIs brain, his emotions, who he is is so confused and traumatized; everything he was is wrapped up in and depended upon Maeve. He had nothing and no one before her, this way of life was his only known reality. He does not know what or who he is without it. And when Maeve displayed displeasure and anger, the only way his mind knew how to react was to try to please her, beg forgiveness, and the fear of losing the only life and ways he understands caused him to try to hold onto that as much as possible.

It is very hard to understand or relate to unless you have gone through it yourself or know someone who has. And that’s okay, that’s understandable. Trauma and abuse are horrible things and are very hard to overcome. To anyone who may not be aware of why he would do this, it seems pathetic and confusing.

I hope these answered your questions.

And to anyone out there who may be going through abuse or have been traumatized, know that there is help out there and that it is not hopeless. I cannot imagine all you are going through, but there are people out there who have been through it as well. I escaped emotional abuse in high school, and life has gotten significantly better. I've got a whole manuscript, and just now come to the realization that I don't have an overarching conflict. There's a protagonist who appears at the beginning, disappears while a new minor protag comes in, and then returns at the end--but that ends up creating more questions than answering them. Any suggestions? (I know I didn't give very much detail, sorry ): )

I think you’ve prompted a great topic anon :)

The Overarching Conflict

You talk about a lack of an overarching conflict. Let’s break that down to what that actually means. When we say a story has an overarching conflict, we’re talking about a conflict that is present throughout the whole story and contains all of the “plot stuff.” The plot stuff includes all your characters’ actions (protagonist, antagonist, and any and all minor characters), and any plot events. All of this “stuff” should be happening within your story’s main conflict.

Our anon is suggesting that their story breaks in the middle so that the overarching conflict is split momentarily, before it continues on down to the end, so that it looks like this:

The black rectangle is this interruption from the overarching conflict. It’s divergent plot information that leaves the main conflict and goes off somewhere else to create a brand new arc. Imagine if the black line disrupting our arc here goes straight up and then expands to become the bottom of a new arc. So you basically have a story that branches off into another story and may come back or may not come back.

This is what the anon thinks is going on, and yeah it’s not a great situation. But this may not be where you’re at, at all. Because there’s a difference between an interruption to your plot and an interruption to your conflict. So I’m suggesting that perhaps the anon is dealing with the situation in the graphic below. And if not, this is what they should strive to get to.

You can go off on as many tangents in your plot as you want, so long as it still is contained inside your conflict. What does that look like? Here’s an example.

In the Sherlock Holmes novel A Study in Scarlet, the book begins from Watson’s perspective, as we usually expect. This is the first novel, so he meets Holmes and they begin investigating a case together. But about halfway through, the story suddenly flashes back 30 years to a setting we’ve yet to see with characters we’ve never met. It seems tangential, unrelated, and distant to the plot at hand. And yet, by the time this diversion comes back around to the present day, we now understand the context and motive of the story’s murder. The “tangent” worked because it was contributing to the conflict - the murder that Holmes and Watson were investigating.

It’s okay to switch points of view halfway through, and it’s okay to delve off into plot points that seem to go off on tangents, and it’s okay to completely turn your story on its head to pursue something unexpected. The key is keeping it within your story’s defined conflict. For all of these black rectangles that try to disrupt your plot, don’t let them break through the conflict boundary. They might form new mini-conflicts, and they might run amok inside the smaller circle under the arc, but as long as they stay inside that blue area in my graphic, you should be okay.

Cleaning up a Messy Ending

As for your concern that you’re raising too many new issues without resolving old ones, that’s just a matter of problem solving. As you’re heading into the downturn of your story’s overarching conflict (around the climax area), list everything that you see as unresolved. Don’t be afraid of how long this list is. A long list doesn’t necessarily mean that the story’s a mess. It just means it’ll take a little more thought to bring it all together. And you can bring it together!

For each item on your list of unresolved issues, think about a specific solution for each problem. Your goal is to develop solutions for each issue individually. Break it down piece by piece. Hells yes it’s overwhelming to plot an ending when you’ve got so many loose strings tangled up together. So isolate them. Try to untangle each string one at a time.

Then, once you’ve figured out how to tie up each loose end by itself, you can start to look at the bigger picture. And at this point, you might be able to see points where you can tie up two ends with one knot. Two unanswered questions may be resolved in one idea.

It’s a lot of work, so be patient with yourself. Immerse yourself in the process, and enjoy it! Working through these problems can be challenging, but also incredibly rewarding.

Good luck!

  • what she says: I'm fine
  • what she means: i can't believe people actually ship nancy with jonathan, because that completely goes against what the writers are trying to do. they set up your basic trope: good girl is trying to be #edgy and is dating your stereotypical "bad boy", and then this "nice guy" comes along and pays attention to her. listen, jonathan is great and all, but i don't trust pretentious creeps that like to take pictures of girls making out with their boyfriends in privacy without anyone's permission. jonathan also tried to put nancy in this box. "you were trying to be someone else." the writers totally destroyed the idea of nancy simply being that straight A student that wants to rebel. she's not dating steve, or drinking, or shooting guns because she thinks she's being "different". she's doing those things because THAT'S WHO SHE IS. you can get straight A's and want to do well in school while also partying and dating a hunk. speaking of the hunk, steve is actually wayyy better for her than jonathan (i mean i'd be happy if nancy decided not to be with anyone but let's be real i'm a total stevexnancy person) and here's why: he paid attention to her, like really noticed things about her. he didn't make fun of who she was in a condescending way, and he also supports her. like, yes, he's problematic in that he has shitty friends and horrible parents (from what we've heard) and while his initial decisions are rude and selfish, he becomes self-aware and tries to make it up to people. i.e., going to jonathan's to try and apologize and buying him a new camera, or coming to nancy to tell her he confessed to the police even though it got him in trouble, or telling his friends where to stick it and then going to help wash off the graffiti. in short, jonathan romanticized this version of nancy that wasn't really all of who she was and people paint him to be this great guy (would you trust a guy that took pictures of you without you knowing, and then only feeling guilty once you found out?) and steve is this beautiful work in progress that wants to understand how nancy works as a person. so basically the fact that the writers didn't leave nancy with jonathan means that they destroyed that basic story line where the "nice girl" leaves the "bad boy" for the "nice guy" and they did it in the best way possible without completely bashing any one character and i just really love this show.

If Katara had married Zuko she would've had a loving caring husband who would've treated her like a queen and would've treated their kids equally plus Katara would've been an ambassador in the Fire Nation and then Fire Lady, she would've had a huge political role and she would've used blood bending in so many good ways, she would've gotten a statue that she deserved so much, all this would've happened if she had married Zuko, but she didn't and I feel so so bad for her, it makes me so sad.

I don’t disagree with a single thing here, but I do want to address a misunderstanding that is likely to occur when non-shippers see this argument: the idea that Katara marrying Zuko would be a panacea for all the things that went wrong with her character in the post-A:TLA material.

Out of context, “Katara marrying Zuko would have made everything better” is only another way of Katara’s destiny hinging on who she is paired with romantically. So let’s talk for a moment about what we actually mean when we use that as a catch-all phrase for A:TLA’s improvement:

A return to the themes and symbolism that A:TLA espoused. As I explain here, a lot of the themes of A:TLA were subverted in order to make the canon pairings happen. If the creators didn’t force a romantic pairing between Aαng and Katara, her character would have been better served because motifs such as “choosing one’s own destiny” would have played out naturally through her development arc.

More creative control by A:TLA’s best writers. Bryke had no writing credits to their name prior to A:TLA, and a lot of the best writing work on the series was done by Aaron and Elizabeth Ehasz. These two had a special focus on Zuko, but they refused to succumb to the temptation of making Zuko the guy who just “gets” everything in the end because he’s the hero. Unlike Bryke’s favorite character, which leads nicely into …

The series would not have played favorites with Aαng. This is a major part of what annoys people with the A:TLA finale, and leads to further problems in Legend of Korra. Aαng is not allowed to go through the same soul-wrenching struggles as the rest of the characters. It’s not that he doesn’t suffer, or he doesn’t lose people, or that he isn’t conflicted. It’s that his core beliefs are never challenged in a way that makes them develop. In the show, it is reality that always bends to Aαng’s beliefs, instead of Aαng having to adapt his beliefs to reality. If you go back through A:TLA and compile a montage of all the times other people learn that Aαng was right and they were wrong, you would a) understand what I mean, and b) understand how damaging that is for a protagonist, the person you want in your show to change the most

Katara’s agency as a character. It’s safe to say that Aαng, in the context of romance, is detrimental to Katara’s agency as a character. We see this when side characters repeatedly encourage Aαng to pursue Katara “because you’re the Avatar”, even though they have never met Katara and have no idea what her opinion is on this romance thing, if she even has one. We see this again when Aαng kisses Katara without her consent and never apologizes for it or brings it up again. And we see it in the comics, where Katara’s ideals are Aαng’s ideals, they never have any conflicts, her feeling abandoned by him is portrayed as wrong, but her approval of Aαng’s potential murder of Zuko is right, her leaving it up to Aαng to decide whether the Four Nations should be forcibly separated is portrayed as right, and her old Water Tribe friends accuse her of having forgotten her homeland because she spends all her time with her boyfriend.

Avoidance of black and white morality. One of A:TLA’s strengths as a show is that it portrays a complex world. There are lessons to be learned and characters with strong moral convictions, but there is rarely a sense of one set of principles being lauded over all the others. In fact, a sense of moral superiority without listening to other points of view, such as the Fire Nation has, proves to be highly destructive to the world at large.

But when it comes to Kαtααng, this complexity falls by the wayside. Zuko the morally ambiguous deuteragonist is suddenly the “bad boy” who “doesn’t really care about [Katara]”, despite the fact that he risked his life for her in the finale. Arguably the most complex episode of the series, “The Southern Raiders”, is seen by Bryke (who did not write it) in purely good-vs-evil terms, with Aαng being the “angel” and Zuko being the “devil” on Katara’s shoulders, respectively. Oversimplification of morality is something that plagues Legend of Korra to a major extent, with the embodiment of that being “goodness” and “badness” personified in Vaatu and Raava during Book 2. (Notice, too, that Katara in LOK had bloodbending outlawed, instead of her embarking on a similar journey to Zuko in “The Firebending Masters”, where even seemingly destructive bending could be used to create life.) Black and white morality in LOK has its beginnings in the tail end of A:TLA, with the boy who could not be allowed to kill under any circumstances, and who is, quite literally, a Nice Guy.

Sokka: The number one mistake nice guys like you make: being too nice.

So, to translate: “all this would’ve happened if she had married Zuko” = “there is a natural narrative thread that would have culminated in Katara having a relationship with Zuko if it weren’t for the executive producers derailing it, and her character, for the sake of their own pet character who was in many ways a self-insert for them both.”

Tada!

i was asked to do a tutorial on how i make my icons by anonymous, so here’s my super easy way of doing it. there’s no major editing or backgrounds simply because i’m super lazy and i prefer the look of clean, bright icons. i’ve only ever used this method on cartoons (voltron. i’ve only ever made voltron icons lol), so i can’t say for sure whether this method would work well with real people. just keep that in mind!

for some examples of what you can make, here’s my icons page.
