but i have no one and no social skills

masterofenthropy  asked:

Hi HeyWriters! I was wondering: do you have a tip to create a weak point on main characters? I´m making a story, but I´m having trouble since my main character is TOO overpowered. Could you help me with this?

(All of this is written under the assumption your character has superpowers or “special” abilities, so forgive me if you meant a different kind of power.)

I created a character concept when I was twelve. She had all the superpowers of my favorite heroes and then some. As time wore on she gained more and more until eventually my adolescent brain invented logic and realized she was actually ridiculous. Here’s how I depowered this character, who’s name is Ace, without completely ruining her coolness.

Step One:

Don’t be greedy. Any ability that does not contribute to the story needs to go. It’s taking up space that could be filled with credibility. I decided early on that Ace didn’t need most of her abilities, and by the end of the story she only relies on a few to get the job done. Also, if a character can do more than one thing that are all basically the same thing some of those should probably go (invisibility and camouflage, superspeed and teleportation, etc.).

Step Two:

Apply real-world science. If you try to make your depiction realistic, you’ll want to have an idea of how these abilities might work and how they might not. Of course, you should suspend disbelief for some things if they’re truly essential to your character, but others can be adapted. For Ace there are some powers that only work under the right circumstances, and others that her body rejects or that give her physical pain when she uses them. Most importantly, special strengths come with special weaknesses. Sensitive hearing means loud noises are more jarring or harmful, regeneration means metabolism speeds up and the person needs to eat as much as a body builder. Any superpower you pick out will have a drawback, I guarantee it; if not a physical one then a social one (I’ll get to that).

This scene from The Incredibles is an excellent demonstration of superpower drawbacks.

Step Three:

Consider how the character feels about all this power and why they obtained it in the first place. Ace was not born with abilities, but over time she chose certain powers for the purpose of defending herself or others. Some of her powers fade away when she stops using them, like any skill you fail to practice, and some abilities she just plain old refuses to use for personal reasons. Some are too difficult or time-consuming for her to master, and some even trigger memories of her traumatic past thus she discards them. This way she has a choice in the matter and her choice is not to bite off more than she can chew or what she doesn’t want in the first place.

Step Four:

How do other characters feel about all this power? Perhaps some or all of your character’s powers intimidate, frighten, or anger others in the story. One of Ace’s friends dislikes how unstoppable she is, and others are taken aback by some of the things she can do or how she looks when she does them. On the whole, she hides what she can do or picks small things to do instead of big things, downplaying her own power when necessary. How your supporting characters react to the force of nature that is your MC is the most important aspect of her power.

Here’s an example from the X-Men of how other characters might react.

For additional opinions and advice, read this https://mythcreants.com/blog/five-characters-that-are-too-powerful/ and take to heart its ending line: “There’s only one fix that avoids all the pitfalls of overpowered heroes: refrain from making them really powerful in the first place.”

Yes, Ace is a flawed concept and all the advice I just gave is only a patch kit for that flaw. However, overpowered characters continue to excite readers and viewers alike, so I would never suggest we dispense with them altogether. Just, when you’re getting a headache from how overwhelming your character is, it’s good to consider dialling it all back and focusing on the power of their personality instead.

Super apologize for taking so long to respond, and thanks for asking in the first place.

Do you have any advice for young artists, who want to do comics out there?

1/ Do them on your own. The industry is unforgiving and low-paying with no benefits. The Internet has made it so easy to get noticed/paid for the work you do on your own, so take advantage! Don’t quit your day job for comics unless you know you’ve got a good amount of stability or financial cushion.

2/ Comics are a really intense exercise in time management. There is no way you can put in 100% on every single page like a single illustration; you would never meet standard schedules (unless you are just Chris Samnee levels of insanely fast). You’re going to only be able to put in 60-70% of your true potential — the trick is to get your 60-70% to be Really Good.

3/ Finishing something and putting it out there for people to see is just as much a skill to nurture and improve upon as draftsmanship, coloring, composition, etc. Give yourself deadlines and try to meet them, and try to share your work. Peer critique is how you improve, and also how you build confidence.

4/ Have a social media presence. For me, it’s Twitter. It’s how I’ve met my colleagues, friends, mentors, employers, etc. I keep it casual and friendly, but I also approach it with a business mindset: If I consistently put in the work, meaning I post one drawing a day or so, inject some personality, connect with folks and comment earnestly on their work, I will likely receive some of that back later down the line (audience growth, better friendships, more eyes on my work, etc).

5/ Don’t apologize or speak disparagingly of your work, even if you notice flaws. Chance is, most people didn’t notice it, or they it didn’t detract from the piece itself to be worth a comment. It also comes off as unprofessional.

6/ Do not undersell yourself. Here’s the Fair Page Rates info: https://fairpagerates.com/

The New Girl in English Class

Hi, Uhm I absolutly love your account. I was wondering if you could do one where y/n is new to Riverdale and ends up be a loner, and since jughead knows what that’s like they become friends <3 lots of fluff. Please and thank you

Pairing: Jughead x Reader

Description: Jughead isn’t a social butterfly, but the new girl, with her impressive writing skills, may be an exception.

Warnings: none

Word count: 958

A/N: I had a lot of fun writing this one, hope you enjoy!

Jughead didn’t care much for his classmates.  He had a select amount of friends, and they satisfied him.  He found no point in socializing with other people just for the sake of more people to talk to.  (Y/N) (Y/L/N), the new girl, was no exception to Jughead’s belief.  She had recently moved to Riverdale, and she sat in the back of Jughead’s English class.  Although he never saw her with any friends, Jughead felt no obligation to act friendly towards (Y/N) because she had no other friends.  That was not his job.

“New girl’s pretty,” Veronica commented at lunch one day.  Jughead looked up from his chips at Veronica.

“So what?” he asked, eyebrows raised.  Veronica raised her hands in mock-surrender.

“Woah there, Jughead,” she rolled her eyes, “I’m just saying.”

“I feel bad for her,” Betty joined in on the conversation.  “I don’t think she has any friends.”

“Being the new girl is hard,” Veronica empathized with (Y/N), popping a fry in her mouth.  “It’s hard to make friends at a new school.  I got lucky with you guys.”  The whole table cooed at what Veronica said, then laughed.

Their English teacher made them write an analysis on the book the class had just finished.  Jughead, a natural-born writer, finished it with ease. Most of the rest of his class, from what he could tell, struggled with the assignment.

The day that the assignment was due, the English teacher surprised everyone by announcing that the analysis would have to be read in front of the whole class.  This sent some of Jughead’s classmates into a frenzy because no one felt confident in their writing.  Jughead was the only volunteer to read.  He stepped up in front of the class and effortlessly read his analysis, and once he finished he plopped back into his chair.  Because there were no more volunteers, his teacher began to randomly select students.  Every student who went up stuttered and fumbled and lacked proper analysis in Jughead’s opinion.  Unimpressed, he sat in his chair with his arms crossed and a judgmental look plastered on his face.

“(Y/N) (Y/L/N),” the teacher called out.  Jughead shifted in his seat so he could glance at the new girl.  Her eyes were wide as she shakily stood up.  Grabbing her paper, she ventured to the front of the classroom.  She cleared her throat and began to read.  Jughead was shocked by her eloquence: her voice was clear and smooth, her writing was immaculate, and her analysis had extreme depth.  When she finished, she quickly sat down before any students had the chance to applaud.

The bell rang, and while the other students dashed out of the room, Jughead approached (Y/N) as she stuffed her binders into her bag.

“That was impressive,” he commented, leaning against the desk in front of her.  She turned to face him.

“What was impressive?” she inquired, pulling a bit of hair behind her ears.

“Your writing,” Jughead answered. “It was very eloquent.  You’re very good.”

“Yours was better,” she responded, shrugged her bag onto her shoulder.  She began to exit the classroom, and Jughead followed in her footsteps.

“That’s debatable,” he countered, “and I don’t say that too often.”  (Y/N) laughed at that, causing Jughead to crack a smile.

“Well then, I’m glad that someone has finally met your standards,” she quipped, and his smile widened.  “Anyhow, it was nice talking to you, but I have to go to history now.”  Her pace quickened as she left Jughead’s side, and he stood in the hallway as he watched her walk away.  He barely noticed that his cheeks were a bit redder than usual.

Over the course of the next two weeks, Jughead tried to get to know (Y/N) better.  He moved his seat so that he was next to her in English.  He began to invite her to his table to eat lunch with him and his friends.  Although they all noticed his shift in attitude, they chose to remain silent. They were going to let Jughead figure this one out on his own.

It took Jughead another three weeks before he finally realized what happened.  He was sitting in his booth with (Y/N) across from him.  They were working on an English project, each of them working on their own individual assignment.  There was no conversation being tossed between them, just a soothing silence.  Jughead looked up from his writing and saw the girl sitting across from him, and then it hit him.  He liked her.

“(Y/N),” her name spilled out of his mouth before he could stop himself.  Her head snapped up, and she shot him a puzzled glance.

“Yes, Jug?” she questioned. Jug.  When did she start calling him that?

“When did you start calling me that?” he voiced his thoughts.  (Y/N) shrugged.

“I don’t know,” she answered. But he didn’t care about the answer to that question.  What he was really wondering was when did everything change?

“Is this a date?” his words stumbled over one another as they poured out of his mouth.  He immediately regretted saying that.

“I didn’t think it was,” (Y/N) remained calm.  “It can be if you want.”  Jughead almost missed the second part of her reply, but once it registered in his mind, he burst into a grin.  (Y/N) shook her head with a smile etched onto her face, and turned back to her English work.

“Or would this not be our first date, since we’ve come to Pop’s together so many times before?” Jughead wondered aloud.  (Y/N) laughed as she set her pencil down.

“It’s our first date, Jug,” she told him.  “It’s the first because we didn’t acknowledge it before.”  Jughead smiled cheekily.

“Then this is a great first date.”

hii i saw your tags on the post about Joss Whedon taking over Justice league. I know a lot of people don't like him but I don't get why?

Without going into essay-length discussion of it, I think it’s a two-pronged thing: one is that a lot of people just plain don’t enjoy his storytelling, like the way in which he makes movies/tv and the themes he incorporates (I think one of the main complaints is that he doesn’t have a real breadth of skill – he tends to repeat old tropes and character archetypes a lot – and I think that complaint is 100% valid). Still, that’s aesthetic; the much more widespread reason is that Joss Whedon has not got a great record when it comes to social justice, despite being hailed as a giant feminist icon.

Which, in the 1990s, the work he was doing with Buffy the Vampire Slayer I think genuinely was pretty feminist for television, at the time (and at first – in later seasons that was less the case). But culture moved forward, and Joss sort of froze where he was. His behavior toward Charisma Carpenter, who got pregnant during the filming of Angel, has been the subject of a lot of controversy (he wrote a really ugly episode about pregnancy and then killed her off) and since Buffy his treatment of women in his work has just kind of sledded downhill. Most recently, his spec Wonder Woman script was leaked and it’s pretty unpleasant; all about how Wonder Woman isn’t human because she’s invulnerable, and how she needs to be humbled, I guess? I haven’t read it.

I watched Buffy and enjoyed the earlier seasons; I watched some of Angel but it got dull. I tried watching Firefly, gave up because I thought it was kind of appalling, and stopped watching media Joss made after that (I found the idea of Dollhouse super offputting). I went back several years later to rewatch Firefly with the hope that I’d been too immature to understand it, or that the out-of-order episode airing had impacted my viewing, but I ended up understanding better than ever why I disliked it. (I wrote an essay about it here if you want more meat on why.)

Imagine the man who wrote a space western and could only conceive of the Native Americans within that story as a ravaging, sub-human race whose sole emotion was rage – and now imagine how he’s going to look at an Aquaman played by a person of color. Imagine a man who was so enraged that one of his actors got pregnant that he killed off her character after writing an entire episode about how horrifying pregnancy was – imagine the man who wrote Natasha’s story in Age of Ultron, for that matter – and now imagine how he’s going to control the future of Wonder Woman. (I’m aware that Justice League is mostly in post, but he’s still going to be writing and shooting additional scenes. And if he’s in on it now, there’s no guarantee he won’t be asked to step in more permanently.)

I think the upshot is that Joss Whedon tends to poison things he touches in ways so insidious that he gets acclaimed for doing it. And that couldn’t stay unnoticed forever.

The Scary...Sneeze?

Context: Playing a Shadowrun group with a pixie sniper, a human mage, an elven mage (who is basically our healer), a human street samurai (who is down for the count at this point in the fight), my elven negotiator, and a minotaur street samurai. The minotaur hadn’t joined the fight at the start because he’d still been in the car, but after the pixie shot & killed 1 goon, and the mage killed the other in a 1-shot firewater cast, the other two were sent running at the sight of the minotaur wanting to join the fun. The minotaur chases after them, and decides to stun one/knock him unconscious so that we can figure out why they attacked us. After bringing the stunned human back, this ensues.

Minotaur: I want to intimidate him.

(The group proceeds to discover that none of us have the intimidate skill)

Mage: Who has the highest charisma

Pixie: I have 5

Negotiator(Me): I have 6.

Mage: Alright, you’re doing the intimidation check.

GM: Your Charisma is 6? (I confirm) What’s your social limit? (It’s 8) Alright, roll for it.

Negotiator: *rolls and stares in stunned silence* I have 1 hit. Almost critically failed there… I go up to the guy and sneeze on him.

(The whole group is snickering at this point)

GM: Alright… *rolls for the goon and proceeds to laugh so hard she is silent*

Negotiator: What happened?

GM: He crit failed…

Minotaur: So basically, you walked up to him, sneezed, and he pissed his pants.

(The whole group erupted into laughter, my character had been stunned by the ambush attack, and had narrowly dodged being shot twice, only to sneeze in the face of a person who turned out to be the leader of a pretty impressive group of competition for a job we were about to try to get, resulting in him pissing his pants. Awesome!)

my ten cents about vriska serket’s “abilities” as a “manipulator”:

i think a lot of the reason people are flabbergasted to see the words “vriska isn’t manipulative” is because first of all, there is a big misunderstanding about the nuance of abuse and abusive situatuations and which harmful aspects of abuse (manipulation, gaslighting, battery, etc) are at play in which instances of abuse. abuse isn’t black and white and not all abuse has the same exact hallmarks – someone can be abusive without being manipulative.

the other big issue i’m seeing is that so much of the fandom has a really poor understanding of vriska’s character.

there are a lot of people in this fandom who believe that vriska is cruel for the sake of cruel, mean because she wants to be, and a master manipulator who destroys the lives of everyone around her and laughs at the wreckage.

in ACTUALITY… vriska is a mess. a lot of the things she does are stupid, impulsive things she later very vocally regrets. she doesn’t actually strive for complete chaos – sadly, she’s very often actually trying to help, but she has poor social skills, no friends who trust her, and a hair trigger temper that often sends her into tantrums. she’s extremely emotional and impulsive.

and it’s not to say vriska can’t be clever – she is a smart girl who sometimes actually does execute plans that work (it happened once!) and the whole situation with jade and prototyping bec (i can’t remember the details exactly) was certainly a time when vriska cleverly executed something she was attempting. it completely fucking failed and blew up in everyone’s faces! but she is clever enough to come up with elaborate schemes in a pinch. they just don’t usually… work, and in most situations she uses brute force or has a meltdown instead of doing anything actually clever

vriska isn’t ACTUALLY a one note villain. that’s why people like her. her motivations are far from one dimensional cartoon villain – in fact, sadly, her motivation for her shitty behavior is either “abused child with no outlet and poor social skills trying to cope” or “my poor temperament flared and now all my friends hate me even more and i have to fix it”

vriska wanting to be a hero is hilarious in the context of the comic, especially when hussie first introduced her and she was absolutely insufferably annoying and pointlessly cruel. but as hussie elaborated on her character she became much deeper and more complex – her wanting to be a hero isn’t just because she’s a glory hound. it’s also because her life circumstances made her a child soldier who could not afford to have friends and whose social skills were too poor for her to ask for help or reach out to others. vriska wants people to respect her for a lot of reasons, but one big one is that she’s an abuse survivor who was starved of positive attention her entire fucking life

of course she wants to be a hero because of mindfang and because she’s a glory hound and etc, but it also boils down to the fact that vriska is literally too. fucking weird to understand “being nice to people” = friends, and probably feels like she’s too far gone for “being nice” to get her anywhere, so she HAS to be the big damn hero. THEN she will have made up for all of her wrongdoings. THEN her friends will truly forgive her. THEN people will like and respect her genuinely instead of hating her and mocking her to her face.

The Only Exception (Part 8)

Summary: AU. Reader is given the task of running a popular love advice internet show when her coworker is fired. Her cynical attitude toward love makes her offer some harsh advice, and more than a few hearts are caught in the aftermath. Will hers be one of them?

Pairing: Bucky Barnes x reader

Word Count: 2,733

Warnings: language, fire, panic, dangerous situation, rescue, drinking, bad jokes, I’m off the handle because I no longer care

A/N: If you don’t like it, don’t read it. After the posts I saw last week that personally attacked me…I wish some people put half as much effort into helping others and the earth as they do being genuinely awful.

Anyways, it’s fiction.

Part - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9

No One Knows. There Is No End In Sight. Agatha and Simon break up bc she notices. Penny is Oblivious™ (yes I know that everyone headcanons Penny as some kind of all-knowing god? but lbr here penny has three (3) friends she had the social skills of a tom cat on steroids) Simon is the God-Emperor Of Obliviousness™. Baz is going crazy (Baz: I want to go out with you. Simon: where? Baz: *facepalms*). it’ll be hilarious.

on the flip side, for Baz to decide that he’s not gonna lie probably means that he’s back to his fifth-year fantasies (kisses and blood and snow ridding the world of me). and he’s probably depressed, and a tinge suicidal (Baz would have to be- to go to Simon and try to flirt. there’s no telling, for him, what Simon will do. Baz probably expects to get run through with a sword the first time Simon realises Baz is serious). and it’s gotta be hell on his nerves.

so it’s gotta be like, really dark humour. how could it not? the misunderstandings are hilarious, but they only happen bc Baz wants to die. or knows he will but doesn’t care. of course, the only acceptable ending is that Simon kisses Baz, and everything becomes alright. eventually. bc I’m a slut for recovery fic.

srsly? I will be indebted to anyone who decides to write this. I might but fuck, I’m stressed enough without adding a blank word document on the laptop to my troubles.

Ok so where "do I find the ENXP crowd"? Preferred habitat? Likes? Mating rituals? What to do if I spot one? Do they bite?

Haha, okay, I’m glad you asked because I’ve been procrastinating on making a post like this for awhile and now I gotta. So here goes. Also guys, I’m dividing this male/female so I’m sorry if it doesn’t apply to you, but I don’t have time for any more descriptions (this is gonna be long)

As written by a female ENTP who knows many ENXPs…

How to find ENTPs

Male

  • Male ENTPs look like the rest of the typical dudes around at first glance. But on closer inspection, they probably have a haircut that is supposed to be trendy but isn’t well-maintained and they also probably have crazy socks, or a crazy scarf, or are making some sort of stupid joke as you observe them
  • They joke all the time. Like there is not a time when you’re talking to them and they’re not thinking or talking about jokes. Could be memes, funny animals, slogans or advertisements…really just anything humorous. And they spew it.
  • They’re the annoying ones in the room. ENTPs are called “class clowns” but honestly I don’t find that to be a super accurate description of us since we’re pretty darn ambiverted. So it’ll be the guy in your class or office that’s really annoying yet funny and has outrageous philosophical or political views. Or has a crazy backstory/family life. Something crazy, I promise
  • Can be pretty shy or socially awkward, many ENTPs have Asperger’s
  • They are very silly and tacky. They wear comical shirts, have smirky expressions all the time, and are actual super softies. Like we’re talking hopeless romantic softie if they’re not super unhealthy. The stereotype is that ENTPs are “bouncy” with relationships and go from partner to partner, but that is largely untrue for both sexes. We may have a lot of partners, but we typically go into the relationship at least trying to make it work long term. It’s only that we break up with people a lot based on the fact that we feel like there’s a lot of stagnancy/we get bored/think that our partner is incompatible with us since we’re “hiding” our true selves, etc.
  • Really bad at using social media
    • Most guys only have a few pictures on their pages, if they have a social media page at all (this is personal experience, not true for all of them, just seems to be a trend)
  • Wide variety of skills/ineterests/hobbies
    • ENTP friend loves skiing, lifting, exercising…and then is unhealthily obsessed with pug puppies and memes
  • Are usually friends with the STP crowd or the NF crowd, either or
    • Does usually have another NTP friend that’s pretty close to them

anonymous asked:

do you have any tips for not getting bored playing a single sim for a while? i always rush things and marry everyone off and that kind of spoils it for me :-(

ok i might not be the best person to ask but i’ll give myself you some tips!

when making the sim

give them fun traits and aspirations: i found that i get quite easily bored with perfect sims. try to give them traits that don’t work very well together, or give them two negative traits. if there are traits you’ve never/rarely give to sims, try them out! similarly, give your sims different aspirations too, try out the ones you rarely use, and then try to complete them. you can use this random trait and aspiration generator if you find yourself giving every sim the same ones over and over again. or you can do it the nice and sloppy way (which is, obviously, what i usually do), look away from your screen, and click around like a blind bat until you’ve accidentally clicked on a random trait/aspiration.

come up with a character sheet: don’t rely solely on traits and aspirations when it comes to your sim’s personality. come up with entire characters, for example, you can make a health-obsessed sim, give them the vegetarian and active traits - and then make them run every morning, do a yoga routine every night, make them eat only organic (aka make meals only for which you have fresh ingredients for from your garden), make them meditate. or you can come up with an always tired, slightly alcoholic writer character: give them the loner trait and the writer aspiration, and then make them get by on coffee, pull all nighters, drink a glass of wine every night, make them interested in maths (max out the logic skill), while completing the writer aspiration, etc. you can even use character generators, like this one

gameplay

choose an active career: if you have get to work, choose the doctor, detective, or scientist career, and go to work with your sim. there are plenty of challenges in the workplace, lots of things you can do or have to do, and it’s very rewarding.

try different careers: once again, do stuff you never do. i have at least five careers that i haven’t tried before, and i only got to the top of one… give your sim a job that you’ve never played with/never made it to the top of; or give them a job that doesn’t work well with their aspiration/traits and come up with ways to make them work (for example, make a good sim become a criminal, or a gloomy sim be a comedian; choose the writer career for an the aforementioned health-obsessed sim and play like they’re writing self-help books, etc.).

or, don’t have a career: try to live off the land, by making money only through foraging and farming. or make money only by selling paintings or books. or, if you have city living, make money only by selling random stuff at festivals/singing and playing an instrument in the city.

challenges: challenges save lives, to be honest. while many of them focus on legacies/multiple sims, you can find a lot that require a single sim. here you can find a huge list of different challenges. whenever i’m stuck with a sim, i usually go to the box of chocolates challenge, though; you basically roll one/two events per sim week, and you have that week to complete them. it introduces a lot of things that you might never think to do, and they can eventually become something in your gameplay that you do a lot (like the thing with only cooking meals with fresh ingredients - i do that a lot when i need a bit of quick challenge for myself).

complete aspirations: this is quite straight forward, i’d think that they came up with aspirations in the first place for keeping things from getting boring; but working towards an aspiration milestone definitely gives you something to do - especially if you chose an aspiration that you’ve never completed before.

complete whims: try to make your sim’s every wish come true! if they have a whim to buy a hot tub, work towards having enough money and get them a hot tub. if they want to hang out with someone, let them. this gives you an array of fun things to do.

start a business: if you have get to work, you can try starting your own business. i’ve had countless flower shops, but you can have your sim manage a fancy clothes shop, a thrift store, a museum that sells paintings, etc. it takes some getting used to, and it can be difficult at times, but that’s what we’re going for - difficult is not boring, at least.

manage a restaurant/pub/coffee shop: if you have dine out, you can have your own restaurant (though this is something i haven’t tried before). you can even build it yourself, and make it fit your sim’s personality - to be consistent with my examples, you can have a health-obsessed sim open a small vegetarian brunch place with lots of plants. or you can have a fancy restaurant that serves experimental foods, if you have a rich/weirdo sim. or you can open and manage a small coffee shop that also works as a library with lots of book shelves and couches. i don’t know much about managing such places, but i’d expect it’s fun!

have a garden: i guess this is pretty personal, i just love myself a good peasant… a small garden gives you something to do every day, and it’s quite rewarding to see plants grow and evolve. you can also experiment with grafting, and learning herbalism if you have outdoor retreat!

go camping: another fun thing to do, if you have outdoor retreat, is to go camping, and collect insects and wild plants, meet other sims, marry the ranger, fight bears

find the secret lots: there are four secret lots that you can visit, if i’m not mistaken and count sixam, too. you can try finding and exploring them, make friends with the hermit, meet aliens, etc. building a rocket ship to go to sixam is also quite time consuming and fun, and exploring space gives you many new, fun things to do too!

have a cowplant: because they’re a pain in the arse so much that only keeping a cowplant alive should tie you down a little…

throw parties/social events: try out every kind of social event you can hold at home, or other locations. have dinner parties, fancy dress parties, brunches, house warming parties, pumpkin carvings, weenie roasts etc. better yet, try to achieve a gold medal in each of them!

start a club: clubs aren’t something i’ve explored before, but you can start all kinds of clubs and gather club points, try to make them as fun as possible.

build and master skills: building skills doesn’t only give you something to do, but they introduce new activities and social… things to do/talk about (my english is failing me but you get what i’m saying). so the higher your skill points, the more new things for you to do!

use skill building items: the obvious option is an easel, of course, i love looking at the paintings they make and discovering new ones! also, try out the woodworking table and make your own furniture. or try pumpkin carving, or buy a waterslide and look at your sim’s funny faces.

don’t forget aspiration rewards: these will give you some new ways to play your game, it’s definitely worth exploring all kinds of fun stuff and custom traits you can get for satisfaction points! there are things like ‘incredibly friendly’ which comes in handy if you have a social aspiration, or ‘beguilling’ which is extremely helpful for a serial romantic, but there are so many options to explore.

give them a makeover: every now and again, when i get bored of my sim, i give them a little makeover to freshen up the experience a bit, like a new hairdo and hair colour or a new outfit. it seems quite basic, but it really helps make things a bit less boring on the long run!

bonus: @bratfish‘s ideas

download custom traits: there are many super fun custom traits around for you to download and explore, have a look around here.

add more CAS traits: there’s this mod that allows you to give your sim more than three traits, so they can have a proper personality. i suggest you read through the description on how to use it!

bonus 2: build

this is not really about gameplay, but whenever you feel uninspired with your game, take a break, go outside start building. you can try filling up empty lots, or delete all lots and townies (or download an empty world save or a different world for a change of scenery - though i suggest you do this before starting a game) and fill up the world with houses, community lots and your own townies.

bonus 3: start a simblr

ok, this is kinda different, but i’ve found that taking screenshots of your game really slows down your gameplay - but in a good way. you’ll find yourself doing all kinds of stuff you haven’t done before for the sake of a good screencap, haha. looking at other poeple’s gameplay and stories also keeps you inspired; and you can even try writing your own story and then making it happen in the sims.

phew, this turned out to be a lot, i wish i could follow my own advice, haha. anyway, i hope you find this helpful - and everyone else, if you have any ideas and suggestions, feel free to add them!

Batfamily jobs as adults

Bruce: We all know this one.

Kate Kane: I feel like she is busy as it is with Batwoman. In her free time though, I see her being a big support for LGBTQ. Volunteering at the different organizations to help them.

Dick: Police officer. I know he was that in Pre 52 era, but it fits him so well.

Barbara: She has had a few different ones. I like the librarian one the most and feel like that works for her. Of course doing computer work for the police as a side job.

Jason Todd: English teacher. Also like English teacher at the public schools maybe in the Narrows. He would be the teacher who actually cares about his students and wants them to succeed and get a better life after school. He might also teach self defense classes after school.

Tim: So he was working at WE Pre 52, I could see him being good at business. I feel like he would best be suited for the design department or IT. Anything to do with technology.

Duke: I feel like he would start a new line of social workers in Gotham. A department focused on helping children whose family has been affected by crimes committed by the rogues. If not then a detective.

Cass: Professional ballerina for the Gotham City ballet or an instructor at the community center. Maybe teaching marital arts classes or self defense classes.

Stephanie: Doctor or nurse. Most likely working in the free clinics in Gotham. The ones she would have gone to as a child.

Damian: Veterinarian. He cares a lot about animals and for him would be very rewarding.

Harper: Electric engineering. She has the skills and can create amazing items that can help others.

Will teaching Nico how to ride a Bike though
  • Okay so, Nico never had the chance to learn how to ride one despite it already having been invented much earlier than the 1940’s because there is a war going on and let’s be real, Hades doesn’t have the time to teach Nico how to ride one although that would have been an adorable sight because he is a busy god, yah know?. wait do any of the gods knew how to ride one?
  • So when Will found out, he took it as a goal to teach Nico. “This is a better mode of transportation than you shadow travelling, Death Boy”
  • Nico was reluctant at first. One, it requires physical touching at some point. “I would have to hold your hand, Nico” Two, he’s got zero sense of balance and three, being close to the son of Apollo makes him feel all kinds of emotions and he still don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.
  • Will had won the argument anyway. That’s when Nico found out that no one can say no to the other. Nico tried, he lost but thinking of it now, he didn’t really mind.
  • Like everyone else trying to ride one for the first time, Nico didn’t master it that easily and had several failed attempts. He fell down, got bruises and lots of scratch but it’s okay, Will is always there on the ready with his magical healing powers and sunny bandages. And Nico likes it how Will fusses over him but don’t tell anyone that.
  • Soon, they’re both trying to outrace each other. “It looks like I beat you again, Solace” “That you did. Good job, Nico” “You weren’t suppose to compliment someone after losing” “Well, it’s you. I don’t really mind” *inwardly blushes* “You’re a dork, Solace”
  • Will is all smiles seeing how riding the two wheeled transport had slowly done good to the son of Hades. Like have you seen his legs and his arm muscles? Damn, there’s definitely some good changes going on in there. And Nico’s social skills have also improved even if it just meant having to talk to anyone present during their random stops
  • After they got together, Will got them one of those tandem bikes. Nico thinks its rather ridiculous but keeps the comment to himself because Will is all happy and excited and that just warms Nico’s heart?
  • Also because, “Nico? Why’d you stop pedaling? I’m not supposed to just do it alone, you know” “Oh, that. My legs are tired” “We’ve only been riding for five minutes” “I know”
Bad Match - Pt.1/?

Summary: Bucky and the Reader are set up on a date, but things don’t go as well as expected.

Pairing: Bucky X Reader

Word Count: 2605

Warnings: angst, self-loathing feelings, bad date, Bucky is kind of a jerk, swearing.

A/N: I’m not exactly happy with it, but I just couldn’t stare at the screen anymore. Thank you @imhereforbvcky  for your kind offer to help, giving me some of your time and teaching me so much about writing with just a few notes. You’re amazing.

English is not my first language, so you’ll find grammar mistakes and nonsenses. Sorry!

Part 1/?

“Are you sure is not too soon for both of us?” you apprehensively asked your best friend through the phone. “I mean, I broke up with Jeff just, what… three months ago and he, on the other hand, well, he’s Bucky Barnes…I really wouldn’t like to become an additional problem for him, since he already has his fair share of issues” you tried to debate with your fellow SHIELD agent.

“Three months are already too long Y/N, it’s past time for you to move on, and when it comes to Bucky, he’s a really sweet guy once you get to know him, you’re gonna love the man, and he’s gonna love you too, trust me,” the strong-minded woman argued on the other side of the line.

“Ok…” you sighed with resignation, knowing there’s no win with Sharon Carter once she’d put something on her mind “I guess you have a point, I’ll be there”.

~~~
Lying on their shared bed, arms crossed behind his head, Steve observed his girlfriend sitting by the desk talking to you on the phone. When she hung up with a satisfied smile he knew she’d got what she wanted.
“I hope you know what you’re doing,” the Avenger told her with furrowed eyebrows while she was making herself comfortable again beside him laying one arm over his chest.
“Of course I do, they are great for each other.” She responded with the smug confidence that Steve so well knew and loved about her.
“I just don’t think Bucky is ready Shar, and wasn’t it Y/N that recently got out of a terrible relationship?” He tried to ponder with her.
“Steve, honey, I know you worry a lot about Bucky, and you have your reasons, I get it. Yet, he’s been among us for over a year now. He’s doing so great working with the Avengers. I understand he’s still have some social skills matters to work on, but he’s been doing progress with therapy.” She tried to prove her point.
Steve looked down at his girlfriend “What about the Natasha situation?”
“That’s another reason. That ain’t gonna happen, not now, not never, she’s a different person than she was before and is head over heels for another man. Bucky has got to let go of this obsession with their past.” The blonde woman snorted her disapproval and continued. “He hasn’t been to a proper date yet, don’t you think there’s something missing? He needs someone good in his life, not just those meaningless shallow one-night stands he’s been going on.”
Steve opened his mouth to respond, but Sharon kept talking, circling her hand on his chest in a reassuring way “And as for Y/N, yes, she’s been in a horrible relationship, but she’s managed to put an end on it and deserves a second chance too. They are a good match, I have a feeling.”
“I still don’t know baby, are you really sticking with this?” The soldier insisted.
“Steve… sometimes even if the whole world is telling you to move, it is your duty to plant yourself…”
The Captain interrupted her, rolling his eyes “Ok ok ok, you don’t have to use the “you move” speech.” Giving her the giggles, he chuckled and put a kiss on the top of her head “I just hope you’re right on this one.”
“I am.” She concluded nuzzling into her boyfriend chest.
~~~

“Here it is, Miss,” you smiled at the waiter when he placed your second drink of the night on the table. You took another glance at the clock on the restaurant wall, 30 minutes…

You couldn’t believe that you were going to be stood up on your first date after your break up with Jeff. So much for being open to new possibilities.  At first you were reluctant to go along with Sharon’s idea, but then you started to think that she could be right. You had to move on from you self-pitying state and the sooner the better.

Flashbacks of the crappy last two years started playing in your mind. You had met Jeff at one of the CIA`s divisions in Europe, when you and Sharon started working there after the fall of SHIELD.  You didn’t know then, but he was the man that would break you into a million tiny self-hating pieces. Without once laying a finger on you he had the power to, with a word or just a look, make you feel unworthy, tiny, unlovable. There was always something that wasn’t good enough for him: your clothes weren’t that fashionable, your looks could be better, your hair should be longer and there was always someone than  you in any given aspect. That was your daily life with the man you started to believe you were lucky to have as partner and that loved you in spite of all of those flaws.

You only realized you were getting stuck in a vicious cycle of self-loathing when your friends, specially Sharon, practically punched some sense into you.

The break up didn’t happen on good terms, so you were glad in accepting SHIELD’s insistent offer to assume your position back after they were reactivated and rejoined forces with the Avengers. You moved countries and focused exclusively on work.

Your fall to an abyss of sad memories was interrupted by the sound of someone clearing their throat next to you. When you looked up, you weren’t expecting to see an ocean of blue eyes staring down at you with a questioning look.

“Oh h-hi, sorry I didn’t see you here” You stood up and, God knows why, leaned to greet him with a kiss on the cheek, only to be stopped with a preventative handshake. Blame it on your European times.

“Hi you must be Y/N, my name is Bucky.” He introduced himself and the soft rusky tone of his voice was the most alluring you had ever heard.

Like in a trance you practically moaned, “I know everything about you Bucky.” Listening to your own words and checking the startled expression on his face as he let go of your hand, you tried to correct yourself. “I-I mean, n-not everything, course not, you’re Bucky Barnes, Steve and Sharon’s friend, t-that’s what I know.” He raised one eyebrow and took his seat in front of yours.

What was the matter with you? You had met the guy for five seconds and suddenly became a stuttering mess? You took in his appearance and concluded that, even though you had seen pictures of him before (most of them with his Winter Soldier mask, since the media still craved for his troublesome past) you certainly weren’t ready for the real deal. He was absolutely gorgeous.

But that fact and the outrageously sexy low bun that was holding his brow locks didn’t stop you from realizing he hadn’t apologized for being 40 minutes late.

“How was the traffic, too crazy?” You questioned to give him the opportunity to redeem himself.

“No, not really” he responded nonchalantly, taking a look around the Indian place you had chosen. “Have you ordered anything yet?”

“Oh, I haven’t, I was waiting for you.”

“I hate Indian food, but go ahead, make your order.” He turned to the waiter already standing next to him and asked for a drink.

“Oh… I’m sorry, this is my favorite place, that’s is why I picked it, I didn’t know… we can go… somewhere else…” You were so flustered that you could feel your whole body burning, starting in your cheeks that probably were showing a deep shade of pink now.

“No, no, don’t worry Doll, I’m a drink kind of guy anyway… So tell me, how long have you been friends with Sharon?”

The use of the nickname and the whole embarrassing events so far got you rambling non-stop. You never ordered your food and kept talking about your childhood, your job, Donald Trump, the lack of male nudity on Game of Thrones… Every single thought that came across your mind was spilled at an impassive Bucky.

When your mouth went dry of talking and not a word had come out of Bucky’s plump lips you excused yourself to the toilet, taking your purse with you.

Inside the small room, you took a deep breath and, while staring at the mirror to retouch your lipstick, you wondered when everything had started to go to shit. Maybe you weren’t ready after all…

Walking back towards the table, you decided to give it another try, start over and maybe have a pleasant rest of night with your date. You glimpsed Bucky by his back talking on his cellphone and the sound of your name made you stop close enough to overhear the conversation.

“What can I tell you Steve? Jesus, she won’t stop talking… And I don’t understand half of the things she’s saying. I can’t see why you and Sharon insisted on this dating thing… Besides, you were wrong… Not for a minute I was able to get Natasha out of my head… Y/N’s got nothing on her, she is not slightly as amazing as Nat…”

You felt your stomach drop to the floor and your heart sank. Bucky kept talking, but there was a buzz in your ears, loud enough to drown out every other sound around you. The restaurant and everything else transformed into a very familiar scenario. It was like Jeff was by your side all over again and his unwanted voice in your mind was reminding you of how distasteful, insignificant and unlovable you were. Your hands started shaking and tears were forming in your eyes, that was the signal you needed to turn around and leave as fast as you could. No goodbyes. You never wanted to see Bucky Barnes in your life again.

~~~
When you got to your bedroom after the longest cab ride in your life, your attention was caught by the pathetic form in front of the mirror on your wall. You knew that the woman he was comparing you with was THE Natasha Romanoff, the sexiest spy alive whose seductiveness haunted you poor hard worker mortals who were trying to make a living in the secret agent’s business. How could he even make the comparison when clearly there was none. You were average, tops. Flat where you should be curvy and curvy where you should be flat.
Someone could think that you’d be able to beat you lousy sex-appeal by a dashing interesting personality, but this someone would be wrong. If you had doubts about it, the last few moments with Bucky had dismissed them all, he was pretty clear about how unpleasant your company had been… Not slightly as amazing…
Knowing that you were going down a road too familiar for your taste, you attempted to dismiss all those self-hatred thoughts off of your mind by trying to get some sleep, hoping to dream a sweet dream that would make you forget all about that night. So you took off the dress you’d bought for the occasion and left it on the floor, found some energy in you to remove the full face makeup and brushed your teeth before diving into your bed, putting on some pjs was too much to ask of you at that moment.
 ~~~

Your alarm rang and it felt like it had been 5 minutes since you finally conquered slumber. You groaned at the sound and the prospect of getting up to face the day ahead. Your half-asleep mind immediately drifted to the night before. Something you were so desperately trying to keep dormant inside you had awakened. The wounds on your self-esteem were too fresh and those words had hit them like a punch.

Despite the desire to keep drowned in your fort of blankets,  you couldn’t skip work. You had a meeting with The Man himself, Nick Fury. You had no idea what it would be about, you were warned by his secretary the day before.

You shook away your thoughts about the date with Bucky and got off the bed.  You had much more important things to worry about and focus on. At least you wouldn’t have to see him again, as the SHIELD’S operating base wasn’t located at the Avengers’ Tower.

Not much time passed before you were ready to go to work, after all it wasn’t that hard to choose an outfit from a wardrobe of grey suits. On your commute to SHIELD’s headquarters you remembered to take a look on your phone. 5 missed calls from Sharon. …he’s a really sweet guy once you get to know him, you’re gonna love the man … You mimic her voice in your head and memorized an entire speech of curses to deliver to the blonde for when you meet her again.

Once inside the building you already felt a little better. Work was your whole life, especially now, you loved what you did and felt appreciated and wanted there. You went straight to the big boss’s office, feeling nervous about whatever the infamous Nicky Fury wanted to talk to you.

“Hi Y/N, how are you today?” Maria Hill greeted you, putting an arm around your shoulder, guiding you to the adjacent room of the large office.

“Hi Maria, a little anxious for whatever this means, any clues?” she gave you a squeeze on your shoulder and smiled at you, but another voice responded:

“Miss Y/L/N, you’re here because I have a proposition for you.” It was the SHIELD’S director, using his well-known straightforward style.

“Tony Stark has contacted me and asked for the name, and I quote, of the most badass spy I could provide him.” Having an idea of where that conversation was heading, but not allowing yourself to fully believe it, you kept a dumbfounded stare at your boss in front of you, waiting for the outcome.

“So, Miss Y/L/N, how would you fancy a position on the Avengers’ team?” The weakness in your knees and the sweat leaking out of your pores must had been pretty evident, since Maria Hill placed her hand on the low of your back, in a support attempt.

“Oh my God sir, it’s such an honor…” your tremulous voice was interrupted by Fury, clearly in a hurry:

“Good, you’re being transferred today to the Avengers compound, Maria will help you with paperwork and everything else that will be necessary for your relocation…”  He talked in a monotone, gathering some papers on the desk he was standing by, apparently oblivious by the rush of adrenaline that was swelling down your whole body. Suddenly  Maria’s support didn’t seem enough to prevent you from falling, so you gripped one hand on the desk chair in front of you, biting your lower lip so you wouldn’t let out the scream taking place in your mind. You had never thought something like that would happen, but now that it was a reality you felt like you had dreamed about it your whole life.

“You’ll go through evaluations and training for some time and then it will be decided if you really have what it takes to be an Avenger…” I’m going to be a fucking Avenger, bitch. You were trying to maintain some posture and conceal your excitement by listening carefully to the instructions that would change your life.

“Your main tutor for the starting process will give you the guidelines and other details, he’s most likely now waiting for you at the compound. You’ve already had the chance to meet Sgt. James Barnes, haven’t you?”

And just like that you went straight to the floor from cloud 9. FUCK.

End of part 1.

“Y/N, we’ve been friends a long time right.”
“Yeah, I’m the only one who’ll go to museums and bookstores with your nerdy ass.”
“ANYWAY. We’re both going through a bit of a drought now. Ya know, sexually.”
“Excuse you Kim Namjoon! I’ll have you know I am NOT in a sex drought. It’s like a monsoon of dicks raining around me.”
“Oh really, when was the last time you had sex?”
“Before I came over,” you said smugly.
“Masturbating isn’t sex.”
“Oh, in that case…what year is it again?”
“Exactly my point! You have needs, I have needs and neither of us have the time or social skills to do this with anyone else.”
“Wait! Do what? I’m not dating your crazy ass.”
“Good thing I’m not proposing that then. Not that I wouldn’t mind,” he said smirking.  “What I’m saying is, you’re my best friend and I trust you with everything. I’m hoping this is a reciprocated feeling.  But since we trust each other with everything else, why not trust me to supply you with mind melting orgasms.  What are friends for, after all.”
“Well, when you put it like that. Let’s go.”
“Go?  Where?”
“To my apartment, duh. Unless you want Kookie to hear you moaning my name,” you say smirking and heading to the door.

Weekly Voltron Fic Recs #24

Rules: You can find past weekly rec lists here, and non-list recs in my general fic rec tag. This is stuff I like, and I have a huge bias toward Lance, hurt/comfort, and general fluff, in that order. Gen unless otherwise noted. Please comment on the fics if you read and enjoy them!

Yes, it has been a full two weeks since the last “weekly” rec list. I have a good excuse. TOO MANY fics. There have been SO MANY excellent gen fics in the last two weeks, mostly because of @platonicvldweek, that I simply could not stop reading long enough to make a list. I am serious. And if I listed all of them, it would be just…ridiculously long. So many fantastic authors participated, and most of them posted seven stories, one for each day, and I just can’t do a rec for every single one.

So this week only, the rec list is going to be different than usual. For a bunch of the recs, it’ll a link either to an author’s collection of Platonic VLD Week fics, or one in particular that I consider my favorite, and I’ll make a few comments about how awesome they are, though that really should be a given. And I’ll ask you, my dear rec consumers, to go and read EVERYTHING each author wrote and comment as much as you can, because we need to keep encouraging this to keep the train going. IT’S BEEN WORKING SO WELL! Gen in this fandom is flourishing! It’s SO much better than other fandoms I’ve been in! That’s awesome, and it makes me really happy, but we gotta keep it going.

Not every fic here was written for the event, so some will be regular recs the way I typically do them.

So Here’s what You’re Not Going to Do by BreakTheDawn
Words:  19,572 (WIP 9/?)
Author’s Summary: He lets them take out the frustrations on him. Encourages it really, because people need an outlet for their anger, and Lance has always been the best at making people angry at him. (And if his heart twinges a little every time he has to let someone be particularly mean to him, then he just has to remember that this is what he’s good at. What he’s good for.) But Lance is an older brother, and an uncle, and a younger brother. He learned sometimes keeping people means sacrificing his own feelings for a bit. He’s been taught that he can’t always let his feelings take a back seat though. After all, what happens if the rock falls apart? So, while Lance is always prepared to be the enemy on any given day, there are certain days and certain things that he will not let fly. Or, What happens when Lance is sick of his teammate’s shit.
My Comments: At first I was afraid this was going to be one of those fics where everyone feels OOC in order to make Lance into the perfect woobie, but it’s really not. Everyone (except Hunk and Coran) is just having a bad day, or misunderstanding things, and they take it out on Lance because he’s an easy target for one reason or another. But Lance doesn’t take it lying down, which is good to see, though it eventually becomes too much for him. I really like these kind of emotional breakdown fics, not gonna lie, and I’m very much looking forward the healing that I know is coming. Can’t wait for more.

Friends in Space Places by VelkynKarma
My Comments: I’ve recced this author before, so you should KNOW how good she is, but holy crap, she pulled out all the stops for this week. By far the highest word count, and every single word is absolute gold. I have a VERY hard time picking a favorite from this collection, but the day 7 fic is a multi-chapter How to Train Your Dragon AU that’s still being posted, and holy crap, it’s so good. SOO GOOD. But they’re all good! So much hurt/comfort, so much protective paladins, so much badassery all in one place. Just read them. Read them all.

Hand-Me-Downs, Leftovers by yet_intrepid
Words: 1,181
Author’s Summary: “You don’t have to lie to make me feel better,” says Keith. “I’m not lying,” Shiro says. He takes a bite of his pizza; Keith mirrors him with the burrito. “Every step is a good step.”
My Comments: Short and sweet and perfect. So much feeling in a cold piece of pizza and a microwaved burrito. And I feel like I’ve had the same conversation during my college years.

A Dream Away by BossToaster (ChaoticReactions)
Words: 1,143 (WIP 1/?)
Author’s Summary: The Gen fics from my 1000 Followers Special.
My Comments: Just subscribe now so you won’t miss any. The first chapter is Shiro comforting a distraught Hunk, and the rest are going to be just as high-quality.

Blue and Bruised by DizzyBunnies
Words: 13,196 (WIP 5/?)
Author’s Summary: While saving innocent citizens from a minefield, Lance and the Blue Lion take a beating. Lance’s high brain activity threatens the use of a healing pod, so the team venture out to find a plant that may help Lance’s healing process. Hunk stays behind to watch after Lance, but will he be able to hold down the fort on his own?
My Comments: It’s hurt!Lance, and you know how much I like that. I really like the character interactions in this one.

How Much is that Doggy in the Window by isabeau25
Words: 1,039
Author’s Summary: Prequel to “What Every Little Kid Wants.” Keith finds Shiro’s birthday present and the rest of the team makes sure it will work out the way he thinks it will.
My Comments: I’m going to say this a lot, but read the whole series. The younger paladins work together to get a puppy for Shiro, and it’s adorable and wonderful. The first fic in the series is about Keith adopting a pet for himself, and it’s absolutely perfect.

Dream, Seam by ardett
Words: 4,937
Author’s Summary: Lance is the blue paladin. The Galra realize this before he does.
My Comments: I’ve screamed before here about how thoroughly this fic wrecked me, but I mean it. It WRECKED me. The author and I are gonna try to co-write a sequel, because I lost control of myself and wrote a thousand words of aftermath headcanons in the comments. So yeah. Look forward to that. Also read the rest of this author’s fics for Platonic VLD Week. They’re all great.

You’re The Only North Star (Platonic VLD Week) by story_monger
My Comments: Oh, man, so hard to pick a favorite. They’re all so GOOD, and they’re scattered evenly across the entire crew. I’m tempted to say Moonshadow, because it has hurt!Lance, but I think my favorite is actually The Beat Down for Coran just being absolutely BADASS and AMAZING and also interacting with Lance and reassuring him and just being…amazing. Gah, that fic made me love Coran so much, and I already adore him. Read it. Read them all.

Platonic VLD Week by hufflepirate
My Comments: Again, pretty much impossible to pick a favorite, but the Pacific Rim AU is SO COOL. And also sad and heartbreaking, but mostly cool. Coran is an amazing mentor to Shiro, and so smart and kind despite his unease with the way the Voltron jaeger works. And his relationship with Allura and backstory with Alfor were beautiful and tragic, respectively. Read read read.

Maja’s Platonic VLD Week 2017 by windscryer
My Comments: Such excellent, excellent hurt/comfort, and a lot of focus on Pidge, which is refreshing. I think my favorite is Break on Me for the protective Lance, but again, they’re all amazing. Read them all.

Impulsive/Spontaneous by gringle
Words: 9,230
Author’s Summary: Lance and Allura finally have a bonding moment. Part of Platonic VLD week: Day 6 Injury/Healing
My Comments: Such an EXCELLENT Lance, and great interaction for him and Allura. I love stories where Lance becomes a diplomat for team Voltron and uses his social skills to be amazing and badass. Yes, yes, baby, you have a thing, and it’s a fantastic thing that not everyone can do (I certainly can’t, myself), and you should be proud. I was so happy when Allura got angry, holy crap. Protective Allura is my jam. One of my jams. I have a lot of jams, but this one is delicious.

Small Fierce Things by playswithworms
Words: 5,241
Author’s Summary: Pidge is badly injured. Shiro does his best to angst over it, but is foiled.
My Comments: Pidge is an absolute badass, and so adorable, and the way she was EXCITED about the possibilities in what most would see as a horrible, unredeemable situation was amazing, and so her. Love this one. Love Pidge. Love Shiro.

Platonic VLD Week by BrOwNiEfOx
My Comments: I think my favorite is Pride as Family. Love that lion bonding, and everyone gets a chance to shine. It’s all good.

Measuring Up by MoonlitWaterSunnyRiver
Words: 1,092
Author’s Summary: Keith has insomnia, and finally decides to *do* something about it. Turns out he’s not the only one up at night. Keith & Lance friendship, written for Platonic VLD Week.
My Comments: Aw, boys. Good talk.

Words: 8,982
Author’s Summary: “Wait,” Lance says, eyes narrowed in suspicion. “I thought you said you’ve known Shiro all your life.” “I might as well have,” Keith says. The story of how Keith and Shiro meet.
My Comments: STAR WARS AU. This is so so so good, holy crap. And it’s a Jed Temple Star Wars AU, where the boys are Jedi with all of the Old Republic Jedi crap about how attachments are dangerous messing up both Keith and Shiro and making it hard for them to navigate the friendship that both of them desperately need. Hologram by AboveWeird
Words: 1,302
Author’s Summary: What Lance never anticipated was missing the stars. It felt so weird, so wrong to be out here among the stars when he knew nothing of their names or the myths they took part in. Most of all he missed the sun. It seemed like a silly thing. A giant ball of flaming gases shouldn’t be so dear, but yet no other star could ever mean as much. It had watched over him, looming and unseeing, for all of his life. It was a constant. And now, by an unthinkable turn of events, it was gone. All he had left was this hologram.
My Comments: Cuddle pile on Lance! It’s good.

simply-yelly2  asked:

Except for her sister, Mothwing, and Sorreltail, Leafpool had no friends. I blame that on how she acted as an apprentice, being all goody-girl and the like. Do you think Leafpool would have been a bit more well rounded if she had more friends who were close to her age?

Y’know, I admit I’ve always been a little puzzled over this;  because considering how easily Leafpaw became friends with Moth and Sorrel, and Cody later, and how she kept an easy rapport with most cats she came across (and was respectful and undemanding in most social settings) I can’t make sense of how little friends Leafpool ended up having because the Erins firstly made her out to be one of those who made friends wherever she went - yet as an adult medcat there’s only Mothwing remaining (and that wasn’t too well executed in the long run) with Sorrel stuffed back into the background noise again, and little to no mention of any other friendly relationships for Leafpool outside of her immediate family circle. Idk that just didn’t make sense to me, no matter what sort of drama she’d been through at the end of NP.

But yes, when you mention it, one of the things I really missed for Leafpaw was for her to associate a little more with her own generation. The Erins imo made a hit and miss on Sorreltail cuz even tho she was still -paw there at the start, she was still about a year older than Leafpaw. It’s okay that Leaf gets on easier with cats who are older than her (Squirrel and Bramble don’t count Bramble usually got really childish around her lol) but at the same time you’d think there were some differences between them, a little bit of an age gap that would be hard to bridge. But then again Sorreltail was only chosen to be Leafpool’s close friend so Leaf had someone to be envious of when she got pregnant…

And seriously, the NP apprentices’ generation was so underestimated?? Here you had sweet and diligent Whitepaw (whose temperament was really similar to Leaf herself) sourpuss Spiderpaw and his bro Shrewpaw, and then crazy lil’ Squirrelpaw, and this all sounds like a merry little clusterfuck - yet Leafpaw’s pov is almost excluded from this group just because she’s the speciul lil’ medicine cat apprentice… as if someone who’ll be in a very socially important position in the clan in the future would be better off isolated from her peers, when one of the medicine cat’s most important skills is namely people skills… yay… and now I have yet another reason to dislike how the Erins treat the medcat position. u3u

Okay so I'm in a bad mood today and I need to vent so...

Here is a list of things that I want people who don’t have a mental disability to shut the fuck up about when talking to people who do:

1. Our sleeping habits.
Yes you may be able to go to bed at 10 and be able to sleep, but it takes me a minimum of 3 hours on a good night to get to sleep because I have ADHD and my brain can’t just shut off.

2. Our workload.
So you have a full time job and have a pet and kids and have a ton of housework to do? Good for you. I’m exhausted after having one meeting a week and just being able to feed my pet every day is an achievement. I am not lazy, I just don’t have the energy or the mental capacity to put myself under as much stress as you can!

3. Our social skills (i.e. “That’s not appropriate” or “you don’t say stuff like that”)
People with Autism don’t generally know how to be anything other than honest. We also don’t know necessarily what things upset people or worry people because they don’t affect us in the same way and I know from experience I don’t always realise I’ve said something wrong.
Fun fact: the way I compare socialising whilst having autism is to a broken coffee filter. Sometimes it works okay and you get a nice cup of coffee, sometimes it doesn’t work at all and while you may want to and try your very best to make coffee all that comes out is beans and while I know it makes you mad I literally can’t help it, other times it’s sort of in between and it’s a lot of strain to make it and there may be a couple of beans there and your coffee may be goop but it’s close enough to coffee again even if it’s not what you are overly happy with.
Would you shout at your broken coffee filter if it didn’t always work 100%? No, you wouldn’t, because you know that it has a “problem” which causes it to malfunction 2/3 of the time! Don’t shout at us or tell us off just because you don’t get exactly what you expect from us, we’re trying!!!

4. Our effort or commitment
We’re not lazy. I don’t know what it’s like to have OCD or Downs Syndrome, or anything that isn’t Autism and ADHD really, but for me I can’t focus on things and I get pressure headaches when I try, which means I now know that if I’m struggling early on I have to stop and take a step back. I need to finish tasks before I move onto the next one which can be as simple as reading a book, and it will take priority over other, apparently more important tasks. I have a routine that I have to keep to and if I haven’t gotten round to the thing you want done yet it’s not because I’m being lazy or putting it off, I’m just trying to fit it into my regular routine without messing that up. And I’m sure there are issues that people with other disabilities can add to this as to why they can’t do certain things that may be simple to anyone else.

Please just leave us the fuck alone. Not everyone can do the things you can and we feel shitty enough about it without you guys getting on at us for it, okay? 👌
