but i encourage everyone to do it!!

Tag Awards Update

Ok everyone I first want to thank all of you guys for your encouraging and uplifting words to me during my stressful moments when I just wanted to pull my hair out or even thinking about just not going forward with this. But I’m going to roll with the punches and make lemons into lemonade. I really do appreciate and love you all for pushing me. Alright now to business. Things hasn’t been coming together as much I would love them to which makes it really frustrating for me especially when I want to be done by a certain time but things are going to have to be pushed back a bit. Sorry if that’s disappointing to some and I appreciate others who’s already said they wouldn’t mind waiting. So this is the resolution that came to me like at 4 AM in the morning. What I’d called the After After Party

Tonight I’ll post and tag our Final 6 (except for Best Duo I have to do Final 4) in each category. Those people are who received the top most votes in each category. They’ll be placed in random order. I’ll have that ready and posted after Finale.

Tomorrow night we’ll do Red Carpet and Inbox interviews for our nominees and some of our past winners. Those would like to participate please just make your inboxs are open tomorrow night. Those who hasn’t been nominated can and is encouraged to participate if you chose. I’d hate for anyone  to feel left out.

Friday Night We’ll have the Official Awards with the awards being distributed and a video presentation.

I know after finale we all tend to sizzle away from the tag especially depending on the outcome (which is perfectly understandable) but I’d hope to see some of you stick around and still have some fun to commemorate us bonding in the tag this season. I thank you again for your patience, your love and your support. Thanks you guys. ❤❤❤❤

Important question! I'm going to a meetup dinner with other queer girls and I don't know what to wear! Do you think I should do a darker, sultry look with bright red lips or a sweet, romantic look with sparkly eye shadow and pink lip gloss???!!!

Im personally gay for both so I encourage everyone to vote for their favorite in the replies section!

Wdyt of the Isle and it's "no dating or affection" policy? It's so strange. People there still can develop crushes. Mal tells us there's no dating on the Isle, but for example, the first book implies Harriet (Harry's sister) has a crush on Dizzy's cousin, Anthony Tremaine. So people have these feelings but literally can't do anything about it??? Is it so everyone doesnt have something happy and good so they all stay miserable and mean??

I think anything encouraging people to hide their feelings is bad. It’s not good for anybody.

I believe the general idea works like this - love is a weakness because it fundamentally requires you to care about someone enough to put their needs ahead of your own (while still taking care of yourself, ideally). You’ll do things that are dangerous or vulnerable to make them happy or keep them safe, and on the Isle that’s so easy to take advantage of. I feel like they see anything physical as a stress reliever or a need some people have. It’s the emotional side you should be suppressing. Or at least trying to keep it casual or passionate rather than sweet or vulnerable.

And yeah, it feels like gang activity - i.e. bringing someone you like to do something with your crew to do villainous things is more of a thing than dating.

On another note, I encourage everyone inside and outside the kinmunity to source any and all images you use in aesthetic posts and moodboards.

If you did not create those pictures, you should link to the people who did. You are using their work, after all. “Credit to the respective owners” does nothing. It’s the same as someone saying “credit to original artist” without even giving a name or a link to said original artist.

It would be even better if you asked the owners of the pictures for permission to use them before doing so, as well. Some people don’t want their work reposted, even if a source is included.

Have another Jealous Black Hat~ I’m planning to make a chibi Villainous comics like this one soon~ I don’t have ideas yet but I’ll see what I can do

I encourage everyone in my life to do better. There's not one person around me who hasn't started a business or created a second stream of revenue. I won't allow it. If I love you, I'll encourage you. I'm not gonna be at the top by myself. We can all rise together.

AND LASTLY. My final post for this image: a wallpaper! (I’m sorry I can’t fit everyone in it’s too big!) I threw the art up yesterday without much of an explanation aside from ‘it’s done!’ HUZZAH.

But really, I meant: It’s done: Thank you all so much for the support. This was a labour of love. It really, really was. But it felt warranted! I don’t do this kind of art unless I love something deep down in my little black heart. This is my tribute to the series and to Sarah and to @blackbeak and everyone who has ever thanked me for introducing them to something they’ve gotten enjoyment out of. Every kind word and every bit of encouragement. Thank you, it’s for myself and it’s for you.

It only felt fitting to draw something that literally required me to give up a little of my own life force to get done *eyebrow waggle* and to mark the end of the series (or the end of this particular arc) in the only way I know how.

(And this isn’t the end of my Thorns and Roses art, per say. But I have done a lot - and I’m looking forward to working on my own things again! I have something else up my sleeve but it won’t be for a couple of months) <3

Heyho Maddox! So I need advice. I'm a 12 year old artist. Everyone in school refer me as a "young artist" and I love drawing. It's my passion. But, my parents aren't supporting me and tend to get mad at me everytime I want to draw. They want me to stop and be a doctor but I don't want to. I want to be a successful artist like you. Help please?

My parents didn’t really supported me being an artist till I was 18 (when I decided to do art for good). But I understand why they push us to do something else besides art. They worry and they know its an unstable/unpredictable job.

You are also really young at the moment. When I was your age, I wanted to be a Fashion Designer or a Veterinarian but ended up doing Animation because believe me when I say ART is just a general term of so many other specialisations that you have to consider.

Its just like if you wanna be a doctor, what kind of doctor you wanna be. Same applied with art, what kind of art based job you wanna pursue? I am currently studying animation but I like illustration very much. And there are a lot more like graphic design, interior design, fashion design, comic artist, and etc. So you do need to do more research and put more thought on what you really want focus on for art.

I will also be very real with you since you are considering this as your future and job. Art is something you really need to love and have 100% passion in doing because there are a lot of factors like rejections, criticisms and conflicts that may make you feel like shit.

If you are very sure if you are gonna give art your all, then go for it. Convince your parents in every way possible because thats ONE of the few conflicts that you need to over come. Its like an endless battle when it comes to the creative industry. Do what you strongly believe in.

Convince yourself before you convince others.

On the topic of humans being space oddities bc that’s kind of been my most recent obsession… what if curiosity is a uniquely human thing???

let’s say aliens are real and we meet them and they just do not for the life of them understand why we do half the shit we do because they don’t understand curiosity

Because come on like other alien posts here have said humans are fucking wild we literally build spaceships and rocket ourselves to other planets before we even have the proper technology to do so just because we’re curious to see if there’s life on other planets

When we get up there into space and meet the aliens I can just see them being all like “oh yeah we discovered space travel out of necessity… our planet was going to be absorbed by a nearby supernova so we had to get out of there. How did you humans get to space?”

“Oh… we just… wanted to?? Space seemed cool. We were curious.”

And the aliens are AGHAST because why the fuck would we launch ourselves into a dark endless void out of sheer curiosity rather than necessity??? Especially when life on earth isn’t imminently in danger (not yet anyway, but that’s another post). So many failed attempts and so many struggles – literally half of the scientific world telling us that space travel isn’t possible – and yet we go and do it anyway because we were curious??? Our world was fine we had no reason to leave we just *wanted* to and that’s such a foreign concept to our alien friends

Like imagine one day a crew compromised of a group of aliens and one human are exploring unknown terrain and they approach a very dark, foreboding cave. The crew really doesn’t need to go in it, so they plan on just passing by to avoid it, but the human stops them

“Wait hold on guys, I wanna see what’s in there. I’ll be right out,” human Lena says before plunging into darkness

And the aliens ARE FREAKING YHE FUCK OUT because why would their human do that???? Is she secretly dying and she needs to find the cure in the cave?! Is there some kind of hidden secret in there that needs to be discovered for the sake of humanity??? She’s putting her life in danger!!

And human Lena walks out completely unscathed to find the rest of her crew in a total frenzy

“HUMAN LENA WHY DID YOU DO THAT DID YOU NEED TO TAKE A SAMPLE FROM THE CAVE WE DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY YOU ENDANGERED YOUR LIFE”

And human Lena just stares at them confused and says “oh no I was… just curious. Wanted to see if there was anything cool down there.”

“YOU PUT YOURSELF IN DANGER TO FIND SOMETHING ‘COOL’?!?!”

“Yeah man, and it was totally worth it. Here, I found some neat glowing rocks, take one. Oh and also this little fuzzy thing here is my friend now. I found him down there and he reminded me of my dog back at home”

One alien promptly faints because he cannot control this fucking human who brings potentially dangerous animals with her to keep as a pet

Ahh ok but like what if that’s humanity’s “superpower” like our curiosity is the one thing that has kept us going for so long because it’s what spurs so many of our innovations and discoveries

And eventually all alien crews catch on and all want a human on their crew not just for their ability to survive extreme weather conditions but also because their curiosity often helps the aliens make vital discoveries. All a human has to do is see something and think “gee I wonder what this does” or “if I combine this two things, what will happen?” and bam new amazing life-changing discovery

Of course it also leads to a lot of explosions and trips to the infirmary, but humans are resilient, so everyone is sure we’ll be fine

So I may be judgmental and choosy about what I consume, but I am absolutely firm in my belief that everyone who wants to try writing should do so. I will encourage anyone I come across to write fanfic. If I see your post about trying out a story or working on a chapter, I will like the shit out of that post. I’ll probably comment. I don’t care if you ship my notp: you should write that fanfic right now, tonight. Even if it’s your first time trying to write fiction. Even if you’ve only got a few lines of dialogue in your mind. Even if it starts as just an outline.

I think fanfic can be a beautiful act of creative expression and I felt that in my bones even when I started writing as a nervous tween. I feel it on days when I can’t write yet but I’m building up to the day when I will. I feel it now. And fucking trust me–you deserve to feel it too.

No one else can write the story that you can write. No one else has the words you have. That movie running in the back of your mind, that moment of a character experiencing a dramatic revelation, that mental image of the grandest first kiss you can imagine… That’s yours. You can write it, you can create it, and nothing can take that power away from you.

I’ll cheer you on if you need cheering. I can’t promise to read stuff but I’ll listen and I’ll tell you to go for it and I’ll whoop when you say you had a good writing session. Encourage you to love those OCs, that OTP, the long building twist, the narrative poem.

Fanfic is fucking amazing. Art is amazing. You can start any day you want. It’s here for you.

Harry Styles Charms Grammy Museum Crowd, Is a Nomination Next?

Ahead of a Sept. 20 show at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre, Harry Styles took the stage at downtown L.A.’s Grammy Museum on Friday night (Sept. 15) for a Q&A conducted by writer and filmmaker Cameron Crowe. Styles, who released his self-titled debut in May, was joined by producer Jeff Bhasker for a lively, often laugh-out-loud discussion of how the album came together, Styles’ experience filming “Dunkirk” (“I was in the water way more than the movie suggests,” Styles cracked), and his views on the music industry.

And while the Grammy Awards weren’t mentioned specifically, the venue — as well as the presence of longtime Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich in the crowd — certainly brought to mind the possibility of a future nomination for what is arguably one of the strongest albums of the year. An understated post-interview performance of Styles’ gorgeous second single, “Two Ghosts,” featuring Bhasker on keyboards, drove the point home.

The story of how the music came together — written and recorded in a remote studio complex in Jamaica — has been told by this point, but Crowe dug deeper into the process, letting Styles and Bhasker expound on just how organic and, in the producer’s words, “authentic and viscerally honest” the project ended up being.

At the same time, said Styles, “it was the most fun I’ve ever had.” Partly because he started on the album without a label commitment (Styles would later sign to Columbia, home to One Direction), he felt unencumbered. “When we started the process, it didn’t feel like I was making any sort of commitment,” said Styles. “I didn’t feel any pressure.”

That freedom allowed songs like “Sign of the Times” to flow out of Styles, even as other tracks were still coming together. Bhasker described a moment in which Styles sat at the piano almost in a trance, coming up with the chord progression to what turned out to be his first single. “It was writing from this place of, ‘Let’s get an idea going, do something with it, and have fun,‘” said Bhasker. “And in 5 or 6 days, they had, like, 10 songs. … It was that immediate.”

Styles’ favorite track on the album is “From the Dining Table,” which he said is, “The one that makes me feel the most,” adding that, “it’s the most different than what I expected myself to write and it’s probably the most honest that I’ve been in a song as well.”

The album’s stylistic choices — what some deem as musical nods to classic rock acts like David Bowie and Pink Floyd — were also illuminated, with Styles explaining that his father listened to “a lot of Queen and Pink Floyd,” while his mother favored Norah Jones and Shania Twain. “I’m a huge Shania Twain fan,” said Styles (he later played a snippet of a Twain song on a kazoo, by request from an audience member).

Bhasker’s take is that if any “homage” is sensed, it was not intentional, though the record they ended up with was destined to sound the way it did. “We were not thinking about [influences] at all,” he said, noting that, in this era of ProTools and pop co-writes, “It couldn’t be more punk rock” to record an album the way those classic rock acts did.

Indeed, the sort of liberties Styles was afforded new artists rarely see, and for that, the singer credits the record company, run at the time of his signing by executive Rob Stringer, who has since ascended to CEO of Sony Music Entertainment. Said Styles: “We had signed with Columbia and I called Rob one day saying, ‘Hey, would you mind leaving me a alone for six months and I’ll call you when [the album is] finished?’ He said, ‘I want hear it when you’re excited to play it for me.’ … A lot of people get into this thing of, ‘It’s me versus the record label,’ and I feel so lucky to get to work with everyone at Columbia. The support from them allowed us to go do what we want, so I have to say thanks to them for letting it happen this way.”

Not to let the mood get too serious, though, Styles then encouraged all in attendance, which included journalists, television executives, and Grammy chapter members, to come to the Greek on Wednesday and experience these songs, the band, and the vibe, for themselves. “You’re all on the list,” Bhasker joked. Added Styles: “If anyone wants to come, Capitol Records said they would cover the cost.” Charge it to Niall Horan’s recoupable account?

Thank you to everyone who watched my streams for this piece, to everyone who encouraged me and gave me feedback and advice and support (especially @dracoskullart) while I embarked on this endeavor! This is my first time doing something like this, and I had a blast over the course of the past week and some XD There are still things I wish I could have improved, and there are some mistakes I won’t make next time, but for now I am proud of me < :D

I haven’t slept in 24 hours… *passes out*

Another Humans are Wierd thing

We literally get together to chew.
We consider it socially beneficial to participate in chewing together. It has been a frequent topic of scientific investigation and is suggested that it not only help us form bonds but can increase our intellectual success? In fact, we like getting together and chewing so much we consider it an important, romantic, and high form of friendship and courting? Like going out on a date is taking someone to go chew some nice food with you.
Why is this so important to us? Why is it socially acceptable, and beneficial even, to sit together in groups, large or small, and chew?
Would other species consider it rude, disgusting even, to eat, chew, or take in necessary living substances in whichever way they do, in the company of others?

Alien: ugh, how can your species suffer the immense noises you make?
Human: we don’t really think about it, it’s more of like a ‘communal chewing’ thing which nobody really cares about
Alien: but isn’t it…rude?
Human: What? No, only if you do it with your mouth open.
Alien: but…you must open your mouth to eat, mustn’t you?
Human: Well, yeah, but-
Alien: Then is not eating in front of others rude?
Human: No, no! We’re encouraged to do it!
Alien: but you just said-
Human: I know, but it’s a popular form of social activity! People are more likely to come along to things if there’s food. You know, it’s the only way I could ever convince my friend to come out with me hahah
Alien:…

Also if like, for one species it’s actually similar to torture to be forced to consume things in front of or with others, so they make their humans a huge feast and they all have to eat it together, assuming they would be horrified, but then…
*dead silence*
EveryONE IN THE ROOM TEARS INTO THE FOOD WITH RECKLESS ABANDON. THE ALIENS LOOK ON WITH HORROR.

It gets worse when a food fight ensues.

1.) self love is so important. i’ve struggled for years w how i see myself, with how i looked at my body, simply with how i treated myself. sometimes we have this idea of “perfection.” and we set an unrealistic goal to get there and usually, it’s not so plausible because the idea of perfection is simply unreachable. BUT, what i have realized is that happiness and confidence are, in fact, reachable. instead of striving for perfection, strive for your healthiest range. strive for feeling good, strive for contentment. i’ve started working out and running and eating healthier every single day and i feel gooood! emphasis on the good. i threw away the idea of perfection and brought in the idea of a happy, healthy, me and i feel so much better than before. baby steps. try to feel better today than you did yesterday, you will get there.

2.) the world is cruel. it can knock you down- it WILL knock you down. but that does not make you weak. having feelings does not make you weak. hurting and needing someone does NOT make you weak. it makes you strong, because you have a heart and something hurt it. don’t view that as weak, view it as a sign of life. you are human. we all are. we are wired for imperfection and mistakes and emotions that don’t always make sense and it is okay for you to reach out for help! in fact, i encourage everyone to do so because everyone could use a little help now and then, whether they will admit it or not.

3.) there is more to life than yourself. often times when i’m hurting all i can see is my little bubble. my own little world of hate, but there is always more to life than that. when tragedy strikes, it always shapes us, whether in good way or bad a way, it does. so when you are hurting i encourage you to go outside, look around you, and breathe. realize there is more to life than right now. realize there is more to you, than right now. you are not done growing. you are not done learning. so keep pushing forward. break out of the bubble of hurting once you have properly felt it and allow yourself to heal- you deserve it. you will always deserve it

—  three lessons i have learned all on my own

this has been regurgitated a million times already at this point but i just cant help but feel nothing but so happy for alan. villainous was like, something he genuinely cared about. somthin he made as a kid on deviantart and instead of abandoning it he kept going on to improving and finally being able to see something he cares about made into a show that everyone can see and the best part is that its getting SO much support and attention from thousands of people,
besides that, imagine how much hope this gives for kids working hard on a story or characters they’re creating that they want to see projected to a bigger audience that will love their stuff. we should really be encouraging this stuff more instead of calling kids cringey like a bunch of douches are doing right now. all i ask for

  • everyone: assumes texas is full of dumbfuck idiots
  • me, tiredly: houston's last mayor was a gay woman and the current mayor is a black single father to a daughter who has taken up the position of first lady and is active in schools educating voting-aged kids about their rights and why voting is important. the city has actively gone against the ban on sanctuary cities issued by the state. one of the first ever transgender justices served in texas, in houston, and she spoke at the women's march which was completely advocated for by the city despite it being organized in a week tops. houston signed off on the american inter-city version of the paris agreement after trump pulled out. during the election, people worked incredibly hard to fight against the state's record of stagnant red-state, and despite the ultimate loss, briefly managed to turn the state blue because the major cities (houston, austin, dallas) all voted blue. the university of houston marched with a float at pride 2017 while protesting racist bills that will result in racial profiling and even started a small protest after the parade. texas has a huge population of hispanic and latinx people both documented and undocumented and our culture is deeply entwined with the fabric of what texas is and no one disputes this, as well as one of the largest populations of vietnamese people outside of vietnam. almost every business in texas has at least one person who is bilingual and works incredibly hard to make businesses accessible for everyone. undocumented immigrants are allowed and encouraged to attend state-funded colleges in texas despite their status through things like the texas DREAM act. houston passed up new york city for the most diverse city in america and its residents work incredibly hard to overcome the bad rep of being a southern state.
  • me: i'm not saying texas is amazing or perfect but there are a lot of good people doing good work here. i could go on and on about the incredible work and progress of some of the individuals and organizations that make me proud to be an adoptive texan. continuing to rag on the south and acting like amazing things like the civil rights movement didn't come from the very place you dump on as a person from the north or even another country shows an incredible lack of nuance as if this entire country isn't a dumpster fire. remember the next time that you want to shit all over the south and it's 'dumb hicks' that donald trump is a business man from new york and that the most radical extremist group in america's history, the KKK, was founded in indiana.
To be Rock n Roll you Have to Make everyone a little Uncomfortable

This summer, I cut my hair short. The shortest it’s ever been. And do you want to know why I did it? Because I wanted to. That’s truly the long and..ahem…short of it.
A lot of women have shorn their locks this year, all for various reasons. Some out of convenience like me, some for deeper meanings in search of personal change. Some ladies are doing it simply out of defiance to show the world that a woman’s hair does not define her worth or beauty.
It’s amazing when you are in the public eye how passionate people can get about small changes like this. Especially on the net, the name calling, sexist comments and the mean, judgmental attacks on my gender and sexuality. All because I cut a few inches off my hair. And in the meantime most of my male friends right now are growing their mops out down to they asses! It’s just hair, it grows and gets cut. And the reason I’m addressing this issue is because there’s this misconception that your hair, what you wear, how skinny you are, your social status etc…defines your worth and your beauty. To that I’d like to say that my short hair was a test and some of you passed, and some of you failed because This could not be further from the truth. Your worth and your beauty is measured by your heart. It’s Your ability to accept yourself and others for their uniqueness, and really, being a good human is what makes you beautiful. I’ve been friends, dated and have had trists with a few handfuls of people. I’ve fallen for people who aren’t “traditionally and marketed as” beauty, and have considered them sexy and fucking amazing looking because of their bold, spunky, golden heart. I’ve also had close contact with our ‘traditional, socially accepted as beautiful people’ … and the truth is … it doesn’t matter how long your hair , your skinny waist or glowing skin… if you’re an asshole nobody wants to fuck, love or have you in their circle! The most beautiful people that I’ve kissed and that I’ve have had in my inner circle… are the rebels… the people that are defiantly being them, dressing like the want to, wearing their hair like they want to, getting tats, piercings, or none of those things. Just owning who you are is seriously the most sexy and beautiful thing you will ever do! And for me personally…this is what attracts me to someone.
I hope that everyone goes on Facebook and checks out every foul comment people are making about my hair. I hope every little girl and little dude reads this. I’m here to tell you that there’s always going to be people who will criticize you, judge you and are going to be downright cruel to you for the way you look sometimes. But when this happens you have to remember that You are ‘Rock n Roll’. You are not a pop star or a porn star where your worth is measured by your youth and your looks…. you Are Rock n Roll because you make everyone uncomfortable and are unapologetically yourself, you walk into a room with your head high and Own it, you dress yourself the way you want and you follow your dream at all costs with no backup plan!
Let everyone say what they want. But the only reason someone will troll you about your amazingness is because they are insecure and/or are dinosaurs who have no clue how to exist in 2017. Be you. Love you. Because I love you and we Stand Out together.

And P.S. do not feel sorry for me about any ridiculous comments that have been thrown my way… be sorry for the people that posted them… poor souls, I only give them love and encouragement to find who they are inside and not just own it .. but “Rock n Roll own it”

Love,
Lzzy Hale

UPDATE: we’ve been given permission!

here’s how things are gonna go down:

we really don’t want to get in trouble with the publishers, so we’re going to keep this a nonprofit! we’re going to have a pdf of the zine and a physical copy with 100% of whatever’s made (after the production costs ofc!) going to charity. we’re going to have links to donate to/commission everyone involved, so you can still support the artists!

we’re going to double triple check our artists and writers, and then go through with emailing y’all! it may take a little bit because i have to send them one by one, but we’ll get it done!

thank you so, so much to everyone who supported us through this! if you tweeted the mcelroys or even sent us lil messages of encouragement, thank you!! we did it, together, and we’re gonna do this great thing.
