but i don't have any more ideas where it could work lol

anonymous asked:

What are your favourite traits about Izuku's character?

I’m kind of going to answer this as an Izuku master post if you don’t mind ;3

Okay here I go!

One I love about Izuku is how he’s so different from the regular shounen mc trope.

First let me start with his intelligence, I love the fact that Izukiu’s used his brain to save him more than his body so many times. From the very beginning in the quirk apprehension test arc, where he channeled OFA to the tip if his finger and freaking propelled the ball over 700 feet.

How he was able to win the hero vs villain exercise despite being thrown around like a punching bag, and  he was dead scared when he fought Bakugou too but he was still able to push forward.

He was able to save himself, Tsuyu, and Mineta during the USJ arc too by freaking flicking the flipping water!!!!

And let’s not forget his epic victory in the obstacle race

Freaking heck Inko, I feel ya XD. Apart from the countless number of times he’s used his intelligence, he’s also pretty book smart and I am a sucker for book smart nerds.

He’s a multitasker. It’s not really much, but i do love the way he always manages to exercise while studying.

Also, I’m not sure, but I think Izuku might like to use simple tasks as an excuse to exercise

But I’ll just leave that as a headcanon for now.

He has a high pain tolerance. Izuku’s ability to resist pain is off the charts. No one really likes the fact that he breaks his body just for the sake of reaching his goal, but I think it’s super cool how Izuku is able to handle excruciating pain under any circumstance, especially during his fight with Muscular and Shouto. Breaking his bones may seem bad, but it really makes him more of a hero than a lot of people in his class, Izuku went out of his way to break his body just for the sake of the boy who’d been bullying him for years, just imagine the kind of image that would give him as a pro hero. It would give him a positive image, everyone would know that Izuku is a hero who will go to any length without any hesitation just to keep people safe.

The coolest part about this was that Izuku’s finger was broken throughout the rest of the arc, which he meant he’d been battling an excruciating pain while he tried to defend All Might, when he tried to defend Tsuyu, and then he still broke a leg.

He’s an absolute madman when it comes to his body, he wont hesitate to destroy himself if it means getting to prove a point (like his fight with Shouto) or saving people, or just reaching his goal in general.

He’s supportive to his friends which is really sweet since Izuku never actually had real friends before. Izuku’s quick to defend his friends too, it was this post that made me realize it. Back when he was in middle school, Izuku used to get insulted all the time (mostly by Bakugou of course), sure it hurt him but he never did a damn thing about it, but when someone…

 talks bad about someone

 he cares about,

he gets triggered. Plus there was the scene in the training camp arc where he yelled at Mr. compress for talking about Bakugou being capable of being a villain or something along those lines. Then there was the scene where he tried to cheer Kaminari and Mina up after they got awful grades in the midterms.

He knows when to push friendship aside and when not to. Even though he initially had no idea of standing out in the sports festival, Izuku was able to get his act together and push his friends aside with having a clear image/goal of victory in his head.

He even said it himself, everyone was an enemy. There was no time to stop and think about Uraraka or Iida and how they would make it to the next round, it was all about him getting to the goal and being at the top. Izuku isn’t the type of person who intentionally wants to trample all over his classmates but at least he know when to get his shit together. Another example is this scene in the hero license arc:

He still gets scared, despite having an OP quirk. I love the fact that he still feels fear, there are so many things OFA can do and Izuku knows that. A lot of shounen mc’s I’ve seen only have those rare moments where they actually feel fear like once or twice. But Izuku, he’s come so far yet he still shake in the face of an enemy

He has people that he uses for sources of inspiration to formulate his own techniques. In a way I can kind of relate to this as a developing artists who uses so many other people’s art as a source of information. Anyway I think it’s pretty cool how he uses Bakugou’s moves, All might’s, and Gran Torino’s all the time, it just shows how he much he really admires them.

He’s a slow starter, and because of this we get to watch him grow. Well I guess you can say this is one of the reasons why i like the story in general, we see how Izuku started from rock bottom, from being quirkless, and now he’s so close to the hero he’s idolized ever since he was a kid. Plus I like the fact that Izuku had to work to get his body, he doesn’t naturally have a beautifull muscle-toned body like most mc’s do (not that I’m complaining, because I really like that trope) which shows how much he had to strive just for the sake of his dream. He lifts weights and stuff despite OFA being soooo powerful, but even Izuku knows if he slacks off, it’ll be useless.

Izuku doesn’t have the classic, generic, shounen mc personality. I’m talking about that annoying trope where the mc points to the sky or jumps on the table shouting to the heavens saying “I’m gonna be the best this!” or “I’m going to become the next that!” and then after that the mc gets called an idiot or fool by the people around him and gets viewed as someone incredibly stupid like Naruto, Rin, Natsu, Hinata, Aster,Subaru (I know he isn’t a shounen mc)….I could go on, but don’t get me wrong though, I love all of them, it’s just that the trope is so overused….and don’t even get me started on the ‘big appetite’ shounen mc cliche, I’m so glad bnha doesn’t have that.

And best of all,

Is so

Just look at how cute he is! His hair, his eyes and especially his..

CHEEEEEEKKKKKSSS!!!!! They’re so cute!!!!! They have such a soft, round, tender look that I can’t get enough of.

In a nutshell, I really love my sweet green son Izuku.

Rn I'm living on kind of a toxic house for idk how much longer (trying to move out asap) but a lot of things make me anxious/angry/feel all kinds of negative emotions. Could this affect my magic? If so, what can I do to fix that? I can't go anywhere else to do magic and I have to be discreet, my parents are hardcore Christians. I don't want to stop doing witchcraft tho, I really enjoy it even if it doesn't work, it kinda helps me feel better.

It can if you think it will. I assume that’s already a worry in your mind, since you’re asking this question. It’s like how we say doubting your spells can actually help them fail - this is sort of in that vein of thought. If you think it matters, that it will have an impact on your impact, then it can.

A lot of people talk about not needing to be in a calm / positive state when it comes to your spellwork - it really comes down to your frame of mind. Some spells require those emotions to fuel them - mostly curses, but certain spells call for you bring up those things to bind or banish them as well.

So, at that point it’s a matter of letting yourself believe and know that it will not affect your magic, and trying to keep the doubt from your mind. And I know it’s easier said than done, but as long as you keep trying, keep pushing those thoughts, eventually one day it will just be that way (the whole “fake it ‘till you make it” mantra, right?).

You can still research magic and call yourself a witch, even if you’re taking a break between castings. I mean, it’s been, like, months since I did a “proper” spell, with candles and crystals and herbs and stuff like that. But here I am, still a witch, just focusing on expanding my knowledge at this time. That can be an option if you are willing to wait until you leave the house to do magic, so the negativity won’t impact it. And it makes me feel better too, I feel you.

Otherwise, you have a couple of other options as well.

You can [cast a ward] (tw: gif) around your bedroom - think of it like a layer of thick and potent energy coating your walls, as close to them as possible - so as not to allow any other negativity from the rest of your house in. Here are some more options for warding techniques:

Alternatively, here is this post: [Transmuting Energy: An Alternative to Shielding] (tw: gif as blog header).

From there, [cleanse often] to keep any negativity out of your space, and from you. A discreet cleansing is open up a window and direct the airflow to come in, sweep up any negativity, and bring it back out again. The “light visualization” is also a wonderful way to cleanse a space with no tools. You can also [decontaminate people before they enter your space], an amazing idea brought forward by @stsathyre.

Self cleansing is also great to help with any negativity you may have picked up in the meantime - you still have to interact with the rest of the house right? Shampoos and body washes can be enchanted simply to help you cleanse as well as clean in your shower. My favorite method of self cleansing is standing out in the rain as it falls - and it’s getting to be better weather (at least where I am), the ideal time for this!

Discreet practicing comes down to a lot of [energy work], in my opinion - you don’t need any tools, really, just your own body and an understanding of working with energy. I do spells with my intent and tapping debit machines to make them load faster. I also draw down rain by willing it, and some subtle hand gestures.

Here are some more resources on discreet magic:

So. That was a bit of stuff, lol. I hope it can help you or give you some more ideas. Best of luck, anon! :D

I have a klk question, and I apologize if you've answered it before, but, do you find any significance in Ryuko taking a big bite out of an unpeeled lemon in her introduction? Like, was it just meant to make her seem hard? Or like, does it have some subtext I don't understand? Is she ever seen eating lemon/drinking lemonade as a background thing? I've always wondered about this. Thanks.

I gotta be honest with you: I’m atrocious at talking about symbolism. There’s a reason that my hundreds of essays hardly ever mention it.

So… I haven’t especially covered this before, but I can provide some Thoughts.

First and foremost, the lemon scene has been largely understood as a homage to FLCL, a coming-of-age anime worked on by Gainax—the studio that Hiroyuki Imaishi and Masahiko Otsuka left to found Studio Trigger, which is the team behind Kill la Kill

In the first episode of FLCL, Naota, the protagonist, refuses to drink the rest of the sour, “Lemon Squash” pop that his friend Mamimi didn’t finish. He claims that he “[doesn’t] like sour drinks” and proceeds to toss the can aside.

However, at the end of the episode, Mamimi offers Naota the sour pop again, and his reaction changes. While he repeats his sentiment—“I told you, I don’t like sour stuff”—Naota doesn’t toss the can aside this time, instead guzzling the drink down.

So, when Ryuko, the protagonist of Kill la Kill, begins the first episode of her show not just forcing herself to consume something sour, but does so purposefully, without flinching… there’s probably something there. Kill la Kill’s director Imaishi did work extensively on FLCL, after all.

But what exactly is meant to be conveyed in either series is entirely dependent on how the “sour” symbol is understood.

On the one hand, the “sourness” could be a symbol of “first love.” For Naota to accept the drink in FLCL would be to accept an “indirect kiss” from Mamimi, who had been drinking from the can previously. The “first love” idea seems supported in Kill la Kill, with Ryuko noting, after Mataro steals her lemon (at least in the original Japanese script), “You’re that eager to learn what first love tastes like?”

Mataro: Bitch, don’t try to be all witty! I’ve had my first kiss!

And with the idea of “first love” comes the idea of childishness. Though it may have some… Unfortunate Implications, in both FLCL and Kill la Kill, it could be said that getting into a first romantic relationship is a sign of growing up. The fact that Naota initially refuses to taste “first love” represents his initial refusal to come of age—and the fact that Mataro in Kill la Kill insists that he has had his first kiss (or “get[s] way more action than [Ryuko]!” in the dub) represents his desire to seem “grown-up” and experienced.

Ryuko’s utterly blase eating of the lemon would then also imply that she has had romantic relationship(s) in the past and is not afraid of them.

However, with all of this, the “sourness” could simply be a larger metaphor: a metaphor of adulthood, maturity, that kind of stuff. Naota deciding to take in the sourness at the end of the first opening episode signifies that his show is going to feature his coming of age—something he initially didn’t want anything to do with, but that the story is going to push him to experience regardless. Ryuko immediately biting into a lemon could then signify that she’s already come of age, but—and more likely, considering Kill la Kill’s ending—it could also signify that she’s not afraid of the hardships, challenges, and “sourness” that comes with coming of age.

In this way, I also see the “sourness” as a bit of a metaphor for moving forward rather than running away. The lemon pop in FLCL is first featured when Naota struggles to tell Mamimi that his brother is seeing someone else—a hard, difficult, “adult” situation that’s not fun and not comfortable. Naota throws the can away, perhaps representative of how he wants to run away from this problem. At the end of the episode, though, Naota has revealed the truth to Mamimi, and he then drinks the pop, signifying that there’s no more running away: he’s growing up, whether he likes it or not.

But disregarding the FLCL tribute, a character introduction that features the character biting into a raw, unpeeled lemon is powerful on its own. It tells audiences right away that this character is badass—whether her lemon-eating is because she’s not afraid of growing up or hardship or “first love” or because of any other reason, you shouldn’t mess with this chick.

I don't want to bother you or stress you out if you're super busy, but can I request a Soulmate AU fic with Reader and Loki? I don't really have any specific plot ideas sorry but maybe some angst that ends fluffy? Hope that's ok for you 😊 Ps. You're an incredible writer x

Pairing: Loki x Reader
Fandom: MCU
Warnings: Soulmate!AU in which you get the same injuries as your soulmate does.

A/N: thank you so much for that compliment, my love! I have to be honest, I was a little worried about this prompt, because I’m pretty much a grandma when it comes to soulmate AU’s. I literally just know a single one and I didn’t like that with loki and reader, but then I stumbled across this one and I just fell in love with it and yes, I’ll stop talking now lol. hope you like it bb <333

You made your rounds through the compound right now, wishing everyone well in the fight against Thanos.

You were a scientist, not a soldier, so you had to stay put in the compound while some of your best friends might give their life today.

It was tearing you apart that you couldn’t do much more than wish them luck.

The last person on your list to make your farewells to was Loki.

He was standing in front of a giant window, distracted by the outside world.

You slowly approached him and gently placed a hand on his arm, trying not to startle him. If it was even possible to startle an Asgardian god.

He continued to look out of the window.

“It’s about to start.”

“Yeah. I know,” you lowered your hand and looked outside as well. After a moment of silence you looked at him again. “Promise me to be careful?”

The Asgardian only smiled a little. But it wasn’t a sincere one. You could tell right away.

Hello Kel, and welcome to this wonderful of headcanons! ^^ What about the RFA+Minor Trio reacting to a "i'm pregnant"? Idk, i like this headcanon so much, and i always ask for it lol :v thank you so much ;3; ~i don't know your work very well but the notifications are on! and i'll probably send you a lot of asks sorry not sorry

Thank you! I hope you like this.

Sort of got stuck on what to do with Jumin so I apologize if it’s not that great. Also, I didn’t include Jaehee, but if you want, I can do one where it’s adoption or something.

  • “Could you repeat that please, MC.”
  • Takes him a few moments to process this information
  • Probably asks something like if you’re pregnant with a baby.
  • Like what else would you be pregnant with????
  • Once his brain wraps around the idea he’s super excited.
  • Gives you a giant hug
  • Then worries he might squish the baby and pulls away freaked out
  • But he calms down once you assure him he can’t squish the baby
  • And then he panics again because omg you need a crib and diapers and toys and doctors and so many things. There is such a long list!
  • And he needs to tell everyone!
  • He’s rambling on about everything that needs to be done as though it needs to be done now
  • “Yoosung, the baby won’t come for six more months. We have time. Calm down.”
  • Okay. So buying the crib can wait
  • But he still needs to tell everyone.
  • By the end of the night, the RFA, your families combined, his entire LOLOL guild, and probably the rest of the world knows you are pregnant.

You hadn’t decided how to tell him yet but it sort of just slipped out

  • The two of you were discussing a job he had been offered that would require him to travel for about a month
  • The month being the same one you would be due.
  • Normally you would have been ecstatic and encouraging him to take it, so when you were obviously reluctant, he knew something was up.
  • “Zen, I’m pregnant. I’ll be due that month.”
  • Not exactly how you wanted to tell him, but it worked.
  • His eyes went wide and a big grin appeared on his face.
  • Forget the job, he was going to be a father??!
  • “Pregnant? We’re having a child?”
  • “Yes.”
  • He screams and pulls you into a hug.
  • Asks a bunch of questions, most of which you can’t answer.
  • “I just found out, Zen. I don’t know the gender yet.”

  • He’s at work when you find out
  • Eager to tell him, you call him
  • He’s in a meeting but he takes the call anyway. He always takes your calls.
  • As soon as he hears the news, meeting canceled
  • You’re pretty sure Driver Kim was ordered to speed considering how fast he gets home
  • And how did he have time to grab flowers??
  • He picks you up and gives you a tight hug while planting kisses all over your head.
  • He’s listing off all the things you need to do, all the people that need to be called, etc, etc
  • But you don’t pay much mind to that
  • You’re just happy he’s happy.

  • He wasn’t as excited as you expected.
  • He smiled and hugged you but it felt forced?
  • You thought maybe he was just distracted. You had interrupted him during his work.
  • But the rest of the day he was oddly quiet.
  • Of course, you’re worried.
  • It was one thing not getting the reaction you expected earlier, but now he was acting strange.
  • Quiet and distant like you did something wrong.
  • Maybe he doesn’t want a child.
  • Should have worn a condom then…
  • Maybe he’s just having one of his days?
  • You decide to confront him.
  • “Are you unhappy that I’m pregnant?”
  • “What! No!” He looks upset that you would even think that.
  • Asks you why.
  • When you tell him, he sighs and pulls you onto his lap and holds you close.
  • “I’m happy. I want to have a child with you. But…”
  • “But?” but what?
  • He explains he’s just worried about your safety and the childs safety and whether he can be a good parent since he never had a good example.
  • And he’s just stressed from dealing with his brother lately too.
  • But he is happy. He does want this child.
  • And he is sorry he acted weird.
  • Of course, you give him reassurances and tell him it will be okay.
  • By the next day, he’s the picture of excitement about it.
  • Already talking about how to make a really cool crib that flys.
  • No. Saeyoung. No flying cribs.

  • He’s not sure how to take this news.
  • How does one react to this? He hasn’t got a clue.
  • Probably should be happy.
  • But ya know…edgelord and all
  • No jumping up and down with joy here
  • Sort of shrugs at it.
  • Like. Okay. That’s cool.
  • Goes back to whatever he was doing.
  • Well, you sort of expected that.
  • Later he’ll ask some questions though.
  • Probably get nervous about it.
  • Curious about the process and maybe throws out some names.
  • Don’t worry, he’ll get excited with time.

  • The smile on his face couldn’t possible get any wider when you tell him the good news.
  • He’s practically glowing.
  • He pulls you in for a hug and gives you tons of kisses
  • Later that night, he approaches you with a very serious look and asks if he can talk to you about something.
  • He tells you he’s been thinking about the surgery again.
  • He wants to go through with it. He wants to be there for you and the child and that will be hard if he is blind.
  • And he wants to see his child
  • Of course, you’re on board 100%
  • The two of you meet with Jumin the next day and the surgery is scheduled as soon as possible.
  • Be prepared for lots of pregnancy photos!!

  • I feel like the first thing out of their mouth would be a curse word.
  • No smiling.
  • Like Seven, they are instantly worried.
  • Given their past, they’re always afraid something will happen to you because of them
  • Now a child might be in danger to….
  • Luckily, you expected this reaction.
  • You sit them down on the couch and hold their hands
  • Lots of reassurances and kisses
  • You tell them you want to keep the child. You want a family. Even if it’s dangerous. Life is dangerous.
  • They’re reluctant, but your determination sways them
  • By the end of your talk, they’re not exactly excited, but they do smile.
  • If this is what you want, they will make it happen
Lifeguard!AU that doesn’t go how Lance expected

“Pidge, Pidge, listen to me. I need you to pretend to drown.”

Pidge spat out her mouthful of lemonade in a spray that only barely missed Lance’s face.

“What the fuck?” she spluttered.

Lance pulled his sunglasses off the top of his head to check them for lemonade splatter before replacing them and tousling his hair over them.

“I need you to pretend to drown.”

Hunk looked 110% skeptical of Lance’s ingenuity and Lance would be insulted but he’s still too busy ogling the hot lifeguard across the pool from the corner of his eye.

“Lance, I really don’t think that’s a safe–”

“Trust me, big guy, this plan is perfect. Pidge will go in and pretend to drown and shit, then I’m gonna jump in like a fucking hero and drag her out. Then I’ll put her on the deck and be all “everyone clear out! Give her some space!” and hot lifeguard dude will be so impressed with the speed of my response and he will definitely fall in love with me.”

“You want my sister to risk her life to be your inanimate wing-person?” Matt said incredulously.

“Well, I mean, she’s gonna be totally safe. I’m the–”

“–closest that Cuba’s ever gotten to a Michael Phelps, yeah, we’ve heard this before, McClain-the-almost-Olympian.” Lance pouted as Matt cut him off to finish his statement. “Okay, so it’s not like my sister’s life is in real jeopardy, fish man, but I still don’t like even the possibility of getting her in harm’s way, so I’ll be your wing–er, fin-person.”

Lance’s eyebrows flew up into his hairline.

“Oh my God, man, you’d do that for me?!”

“Well, no. I’d do it for Pidge, because I know you’d somehow guilt or challenge her into actually going along with your crap.”

Lance dragged Matt into the best rendition of a bone-crushing Hunk-hug he possibly could. The elder Holt let out a breathless “oof!”.

“Just so we’re clear, I’m not a fish man–no gills, just skills!”

Matt laughed and cuffed Lance in the shoulder.

“Sure, buddy.“

Yeah, that totally did not go according to plan. Instead of the heroic rescue Lance was envisioning (which would have been a million times easier if it had been Pidge’s tiny frame rather than Matt’s much taller and considerably bulkier one), somehow Matt’s overly-convincing flailing limbs (didn’t he know that drowning people were usually a lot more… still?) managed to catch Lance across the face, stunning him long enough to send him under. Normally Lance could shake it off and get back up for air, but in the panic Matt’s scene was causing, there were a bunch of pool patrons rapidly trying to flee the scene. Lance ended up getting buffeted by legs and arms of all shapes and sizes, and started to get seriously concerned he wasn’t gonna be able to come up for air. Finally, his vision started to blur as his lungs burned for oxygen and an arm curled around his chest, this time guiding him toward the air rather than further underwater.

As soon as his head broke the surface Lance coughed and choked on a massive gulp of air, his air-starved brain too addled to prioritize between clearing out the water or sucking in the precious, precious oxygen. He ended up inhaling about two-thirds water with that breath and couldn’t seem to cough it back out.

Next thing he knew, he was being lain out on the rough concrete of the pool deck and there were hands poised over his breastbone–

The hands paused and Lance blinked rapidly, trying to clear the dark spots from his vision. He looked up at his savior, and holy fucking shit, hot lifeguard dude was fucking gorgeous. And wet. And currently touching Lance’s bare chest over his hammering heart.

“The guy’s breathing, I think he’s just shocked. He’s got a pulse, he’s gonna be okay.”

Whoa, hot lifeguard dude’s friend, buff lifeguard dude, was also pretty hot. And super buff.

“Oh God, Shiro, he started choking once I got him out of the water, then went limp and unresponsive–”

“Hey, hey, I know, it’s okay.” Buff lifeguard dude’s hands closed over hot lifeguard dude’s wrists to help him stop his hands from shaking. Lance decided breathing would be a good thing to get the hang of right at that moment.

He coughed and hacked violently for a bit until he finally took in his surroundings. Matt was sitting not far from him, also dripping wet and looking mildly horrified but otherwise fine. Pidge was at her brother’s side, white as a ghost. Hunk was hovering behind them, wide, terrified eyes on Lance.

Both hot lifeguard dude and buff lifeguard dude were staring at him too.

Lance realized he should say something smooth and intelligent.

“Wow, dickwad, you didn’t even do a pulse check before attempting to break my fucking ribs?”

Ah, yes. Lance was the epitome of suave and charming.

Hot lifeguard dude went red–from rage or embarrassment, Lance had no idea.

“I just saved your life!” he exclaimed, gesticulating wildly. Buff lifeguard dude had to back off a few inches to avoid getting socked in the face. “I mean, you were unresponsive for thirty seconds, I figured you needed chest compressions just like any other unconscious choking person!”

Oh, right, he was technically choking on water.

“Yeah, well maybe I just wanted some mouth-to-mouth, okay?” he retorted.

Wait. Shit.

Hot lifeguard dude was red before, but now he was… really red.

Lance fumbled to sit up properly as they guy finally said, “But… that’s not… how CPR works? We start with chest compress–”

“I’m a paramedic, I know how fucking CPR works,” Lance interrupted. Hot lifeguard dude’s mouth clicked shut. He was really fucking cute, dammit. “I also know your ass looks amazing in those red trunks and I’d love for you to show me how that works.”

If Lance didn’t know better about human physiology, he would’ve assumed hot lifeguard dude was a few seconds away from spontaneously bursting into flames. The guy scrambled back a few inches, seemingly desperate to put a bit of space between them.

Okay, ouch, he didn’t mean to cause that much anxiety or anything.

“Hey, hey, no need to be a flustered mess. We can try this again.” He scooted forward a bit, watching hot lifeguard dude’s reactions very carefully. Dark indigo ink eyes tracked his advance warily, but he didn’t move any further back.

“Hi, I’m Lance. Wanna grab dinner with me and then watch Netflix in our jammies?”

“I’m Keith,” hot lifeguard dude said gruffly, thrusting out his hand. Lance shook it. They were both still wet from the whole nearly-dying-in-the-pool thing.

“Also… uh, that sounds… nice?”

Lance just laughed and let hot lifeg–Keith help him to his feet.

“I cannot believe that actually ended up fucking working,” Pidge said in awe.

Hunk shrugged, “Well, that’s Lance for you. Paramedic by day, and sometimes night, or whatever comes in between, and future Olympian in his spare time.”

Matt rolled his eyes from where he was sitting on one of the pool benches, toweling his hair dry-ish. “Yeah, so no one cares that I almost drowned?”

Just then, buff lifeguard dude (because seriously, this guy was fucking ripped) put a hand on Matt’s shoulder and Matt jumped nearly three feet into the air with a squeaky shriek.

“Don’t sneak up on me like that!” he yelled.

Buff lifeguard dude somehow looked bashful despite his buffness.

“Sorry, I just… I figured you need to get checked out properly, after all that.“

Matt’s eyes narrowed and he waggled his eyebrows in a weirdly Lance-like fashion that scared the shit out of Pidge. “So you’re saying you’re coming over here to check me out?”

Buff lifeguard dude looked stricken before he honest-to-God blushed.

“I’m Shiro,” he said, endearingly awkward as he extended his hand for Matt to shake.

“What the fuck,” Pidge said.

I couldn’t resist throwing in the Shatt… hahahaha

Happy Lance Month! Working another 26h shift tomorrow so probably won’t be posting anything. Hopefully I’ll have another little ficlet written on Sunday. Feel free to send me prompts, feedback, suggestions, or comments! :)

As an author setting out to create unique fantasy cultures, do you have any recommendations about how to avoid cliches and tropes? I don't want to fall into the pattern of 'medieval based country' 'Asian based country', etc when creating, but don't know where to look for inspiration.

Originality is damn hard, isn’t it?

And the thing about it is, every element of your story has been done before. That’s the hard truth. Somewhere, someone has already written that character or that setting or that plot or that voice…And about 90% of it you could find on a list of tropes. You think, “Well, this idea is an overused trope…so I’ll just do the opposite!”

Well, too bad. That’s a trope, too. And so is half way between those two extremes.

Originality isn’t about coming up with new ideas. It’s about taking existing ideas and sticking them together in new, fun ways.

But it’s also about your writing voice, too. Because you could give two writers an identical list of characters, settings, plot, etc. and they would likely write two very different stories that are enjoyable in their own rights.

So don’t stress out too much about utilizing tropes or borrowing ideas.

Now, that being said. Developing cultures can get tricky because you have to balance several things:

  • Familiarity - giving your readers something familiar to relate to is rarely a bad plan and usually helps to give them more to relate to
  • Usefulness - abitrary choices that add nothing to your story might be fine for you to know in the background, but can be distracting if they don’t serve a purpose
  • Originality - obvs

And you have to do that without crossing into any cultural appropriation. One reason it’s so easy to use medieval Europe as a setting is that a.) it’s familiar, and b.) you will offend literally no one (at least not for cultural reasons).

I find that the easiest way to develop an original-ish culture is to start from the ground up, time-wise. I start with the origin point and figure out a summary of the history that led to the current culture. The motivation, the why behind culture, is often what sets it apart. If you have specific elements you want to have in modern day, then work those in. Figure out what happened in the past that made that thing exist.

Here’s a quick example:

Three random headshot sketches of female characters from one of my worlds. Not a lot of similarity here (they’re all from different tribes) but there is one thing they all have in common. Their shoulders are showing. This isn’t a fashion statement, though honestly two of them might think so (one would know better. lol).

This is a tradition that stuck around from ancient warring times. Male warriors took pride in the bulkiness of their armor, perhaps because it made them look physically more intimidating, but female warriors not only found this practice tedious, they also liked–you know–the ability to freely move their arms in battle. So it became a symbol of fearlessness to leave the shoulder plates off of their armor, sort of as a stab at the men and their insanity. Over time, leaving one’s shoulders exposed became a symbol of feminine solidarity (with female warriors and with women in general) and, eventually, just a thing.

It’s not the bare shoulders that are interesting, but the history behind the style. I think that’s true about a lot of things in culture. And if it’s rooted in the history of your fictional world, not in the history of a real culture that you decided to borrow for no reason, then it tends to come across with that more original spirit.

If you haven’t already, you can check out my brainstorming new cultures post. It gives you some aspects to think about that really help shape society.

Thanks for the ask, anon. Hope that was helpful.

Happy writing!

how did you and your sister get into photography? i wanna get into it and eventually freelance in my spare time when i get enough experience but don't how to begin and 2) have you both done wedding photography and if not is that something you'd be interested in doing? also do you think it's better to be self taught or is it okay to take a photography class at my local community college? like i feel like almost everyone is self taught and idk if taking a class is a waste

We have always been into anything art related. Our parents bought us small digital cameras for our birthday when we were in 5th or 6th grade I believe. We were always taking photos of nature, vacations, and various events. When we got to high school (right around the time dslr cameras were becoming available to everyday consumers not just professionals) my dad bought one for himself. At first our dad wouldn’t let us use it without him there but eventually when we got the hang of using it and he let us take it places without him there. Natasha started taking photos of school events and posting them on Facebook. I started doing the same but a little bit after her. Eventually she bought her own entry level dslr and I bought my dads old dslr when he upgraded his. By sophomore year we were both posting lots of photos on Facebook. We also started asking our friends if we could photograph them. We would style our friends and have mini photoshoots. This was all just for fun for us. We have always been into editorial makeup/photography and styling our own shoots was our way of getting into that. Then during the summer after sophomore year a student asked Natasha to take his senior pictures which she ended up doing did. And later more and more people asked both of us to take their senior pictures. We had no idea how to price anything or what to include in packages initially. After 2-3 years we both were honing in our photography style and were getting better at pricing and guaranteeing a certain level of quality to our clients. When we got to college we would go home and take senior pictures during the summers. In college we took peoples headshots. So it was overtime that we started our photography businesses. We didn’t start photography with the intention of making a business out of it/going into it professionally. We still ask our friends to photograph them and have mini photo shoots that we style. Its important to us to constantly create personal work as well as client work. During all of this we both tried our hand at surreal/photo manipulation photography but it wasn’t for us. By the end of high school and throughout college we also shot a few wedding but both didn’t like photographing weddings. By the time we finished college both of us realized that our favorite genre of photography is portraits. So now we mainly shoot headshots, portraits, and senior pictures professionally and create editorial shoots for our personal work.

Even though we both went to art school neither of us has taken a photography class. The photo department at U of M mainly focused on documentary photography which we were not interested in. Plus the photo professors were known to be sexist and/or racist. We are about 95% percent self taught. One of our digital media professors did help us learn some stuff in photoshop but that’s about it. When either Natasha or I start a hobby we go into it full force lol. So right when we got into photography we followed a TON of photographers online and were constantly trying to figure out how they edited there photos so we could improve our editing. Over the course of 8 years we have really developed our photography styles and editing skills. Early on we would sometimes try and copy other photographers which helped us figure out what we liked and disliked for our own photography. I don’t encourage people to copy other artists especially if they are going to sell their work. But it can be helpful when figuring out your own style but it’s important to make sure you are not ripping someone off and give credit where credit is due. When I would use another artists idea I always explained in the description who the artist was and linked to their work. A photographer I know was notorious for copying another well known photographer but her audience thought she was super original because they didn’t know about the well known photographer. Plus you will never be as good as the original photographer/artist and will end up constantly comparing yourself which is no fun lol.

Even though both of us are self taught I don’t think taking photography classes is a bad idea if you think it will help you learn. One of my favorite illustrators, Sam Spratt, took many illustration classes when he was at SCAD but that doesn’t mean he is any better or worse than other illustrators that are completely self-taught. I always wanted to take commercial/fashion lighting classes but they were never offered at my university. I also would love to take some photography workshops but they the ones I want to take (Lara Jade’s in particular) are too expensive for me. Also as an artist I’ve generally been self-taught. I had a few great drawing teachers and professors in high school (I took a college drawing class in high school) who helped me a lot. But when it comes down to being an artist you really have to push yourself to make stuff outside of class. This was a challenge for a lot of my classmates once we graduated. A lot of them didn’t know how to create work outside of class. (I’m simplifying a lot here bc i could go on and on about how much i disliked or liked u of m’s art school lol) My whole life I’ve been making stuff outside of class so creating a photography business wasn’t super difficult for me.

This brings me to the business/freelance part. Turning something you are passionate about into a business can be great and horrible. A lot of my friends don’t freelance because the business side of it destroys their interest in the art. Some of my clients are very particular and they don’t always like the photos I take. But this is something I have to get past. Also over time you start to get better clients because they come to you knowing what they will get. Early on people would hire me because they knew I took photos not because they liked my style of photography (I hope that makes sense). Now people know what they are getting and it’s less likely that a client will be unsatisfied with their photos. As a freelancer keep in mind that it’s a lot of emails and advertising yourself. Yes it’s great that I can make money off of something I love doing but I have to keep in mind that it’s still a business. When I first started out clients would ask for lower prices and I would lower them because I didn’t want to lose a client and I didn’t know if I was too expensive or not. This was fine at first but now I don’t budge on my prices because now I know my worth and it’s not fair to my other clients to change prices. Also photography gear can get expensive and when you freelance/do photography professionally there is a point when you’ll probably to invest in professional gear. Part of this is to put you among other photographers in the industry but the physical quality of your photos will also improve. This way you can better guarantee what a client will get. Ex. my dad’s old dslr that I used had a cropped sensor so if the lighting wasn’t the best i couldn’t edit the photos as much in photoshop as I can with a full frame camera. Basically I just want to make it clear that once you start freelancing it’s a business so just like other business you have to know when and where to invest and how much.

I’m sure you were not expecting this long of answer but I hope it helped!

as a person whos country has been screwed by the U.S., a dude running around invading countries wearing an american flag would be very uncomfortable, and i wish that cap had understood better how scary he was. yeah, tony was a little too complacent due to his own guilt, but cap was too defensive. it felt like he still thinks hes an underdog, a super sickly guy fighting people bigger than him, people who didnt believe in him, and as if he was still part of an ethnic minority.

2) like i was such a movie cap fan, but he really disapointed me. he was just a little too self-absorbed. idk about tony tho, like his motivations were bc of his guilt, but i thought it was fair. being such a rich man that has caused so much pain, he sort of needs to concede to others a lot, especially the international community. if less powerful nations are scared of you and your group, shouldnt you listen?

I definitely agree with you on the “invading countries” and “still think he’s an underdog” points. I get the sense that Steve does genuinely think he’s still this little, non-threatening guy fighting the big bad bullies. It probably didn’t even occur to him before the Accords that him just showing up with his team out of nowhere, presuming to know best, would be terrifying to people who have seen Americans show up and wreck their countries under the guise of “knowing best,” too. That he could be seen as the bully.

As for being self-absorbed, though, hm. I really think the main issue with the Accords situation (and the issue that sparked this whole Avengers Civil War in general) is the lack of time the team had to consider it and the fact that they didn’t have a representative arguing their side when it was made. Steve and Tony took firm stances because… those were the stances they had to choose from. They couldn’t really discuss compromises because they weren’t going to be allowed to compromise anyway. So Steve came off as looking super arrogant for not wanting to work with the governments, while Tony came off as looking super complacent. Which I feel neither of them really are at heart. It was just that they had to choose between two extremes: sign or don’t sign.

And like. Holy shit, the Accords are sketchy. I got a few anon messages about it and:

The reason why I side with cap is that if you actually go and read the sokovia accords (which you can they were on agents of shield) they’re fucking ridiculous. They suspend habeus corpus for any enhanced individual, if your powers are innate you have to wear a trakcing bracelet (which is not inconspicuous looking and would most certainly out you) and tons of other BS. If it was me in that situation, there would be no way in hell I’d allow those laws to be imposed on me (part 1)

(part 2) not to mention, iron man’s whole argument is well we want to take responsibility for what happened but no where in the sokovia accords does it talk about where responsibility and blame shall lie, the closest it gets is that now the avengers have to answer to a committee which is also complete BS. A committee wouldn’t allow them to act fast, how are they supposed to respond to threats quickly and efficiently if they have to wait to get the ok??

(part 3) (I’m sorry) The bad guys aren’t gonna call up the avengers in advanced and tell them hey yo we’re gonna invade France tomorrow so make sure you get permission from your parents first so you can come over :). Also, in the accords it states that if you don’t sign, you don’t have permission to use your powers in conflicts and if you violate the accords you get thrown in jail indefinitely (oops part4)

I’M SORRY THIS HAS GOTTEN SO LONG BUT I’M REALLY PASSIONATE. (part 4 I’m sorry) This would mean that, unless the individual signed the accords, some local superhero wouldn’t even be allowed to go save a house from burning down. tl;dr the avengers wouldn’t be able to do shit or move a muscle, no matter how big or small the problem may be, without first having to wait for a committee and committees are too slow

So personally I think the Accords were too dodgy to sign and honestly did not set up a good system, which is why I’m with Steve on his decision to not do so. I wouldn’t give up my rights like that either, and the committee idea is bad, not only because it’s slow but because different nations have different allies and agendas. The US government would probably control the council by virtue of having the most political sway, which is equally as dangerous for less powerful nations, because then America could really order the Avengers to go “running around invading countries,” and the Avengers couldn’t go against their decisions without running the risk of being sent to prison for life.

Foreign policy is just tricky all around. The Avengers should not be allowed to operate in a foreign country unless their presence is requested, but that decision should be up to the affected country’s government, not a potentially biased committee, and the Avengers should be able to decide what missions they take, because they’re people, not weapons. I think Tony and Steve would have reached this conclusion on their own, but then they put out a kill order for Bucky and there was no more time left for debate.

i can’t keep my post-canon puzzleshipping headcanons to myself any longer so y’ALL GONNA HAVE TO DEAL WITH THEM

  • after Yugi and Atem kiss for the first time (which Yugi initiates), Atem falls in love with kissing Yugi. it’s his favorite thing to do. he just loves kissing Yugi so much, he always (unconsciously) chases after Yugi’s mouth and Yugi thinks it’s the most adorable thing ever
  • seriously, Atem melts every time he kisses Yugi and he becomes this mushy, sappy dork who can’t stop telling Yugi how much he loves him and Yugi blushes and grins and just kisses him again because if he tried to speak, he’d probably choke on tears, they love each other so much
  • Atem usually leans his head against Yugi’s shoulder whenever he needs comfort of some kind. specially during what they think of as “bad days.” days where Atem can’t stop remembering some of the worst things he did after Yugi solved the puzzle and those memories haunt him and he’s so ashamed and so Yugi wraps his arms around him and kisses his hair and grounds him and it’s not perfect and it doesn’t erase Atem’s memories but at least it makes them go away long enough for him to breathe again
  • Atem finds every and any excuse to hold Yugi’s hand. Yugi has told him he doesn’t need any excuse to hold his hand (’cause he still gets butterflies every time Atem’s fingers wrap around his), but at this point Atem just comes up with silly excuses to make Yugi laugh
  • whenever they have tickle wars (which is not that often, but when they happen, they’re epic), they always end up on the floor, laughing their heads off

Can’t Help Falling in Love

“Y/N! Y/N, wake up!” You heard Spencer yelling at you, causing you to wake up from your dream.

You were still sleep drunk so you were confused as all hell. “What? What’s going on, are you okay, what happened?” You asked him, speaking rushed.

His hands were still on your shoulders, though the grip was a little less tight and now more gentle. “You were having a nightmare. You were begging ‘them’ to stop and started thrashing. Do you want to talk about it?”

As soon as he finished his first sentence, you remembered what you had been dreaming immediately. You were thrown back to your time in school, where you had gotten bullied incessantly for the smallest things. You were still slightly traumatized from it, which lead to your reserved behavior, but you had been doing so much better with the nightmares lately.

You sighed and crawled over to him so you were sitting next to him and leaning your head on his shoulder, “it was just the same old stuff.”

He put his arm around your shoulders, bringing you in as tight as he could. “Hey, they can’t hurt you anymore. And I know that doesn’t help much, I’m sorry. But you’re here and they’re wherever and don’t have any power over you anymore. It’s okay, Y/N. It’s okay,” he reassured you.

You smiled slightly at his words, grateful that he realized how big of a deal the old memories were to you. “Thanks, Spence.”

“You know what I think we should do now?” he questioned you with a serious tone.

Your eyebrows furrowed in confusion, “um, go to sleep as it’s 2:15 AM and you have work tomorrow?”

He waved his hand, blowing that idea off. “Let’s go to the living room, I’ll make you some hot chocolate while you pick out a movie for us to watch. Or we can just watch cat videos online. Or we can just talk. Whatever you wanna do, huh?”

You kissed his cheek, “that sounds perfect.”

You two got up from bed, but you grabbed your favorite blanket off the bed and put it around yourself like a cape. Spencer smiled at your actions and waited for you to get to his side before capturing your hand in his.

You tightened your grasp on it because you loved holding his hand. It always fit so perfectly in yours and you just loved how secure it made you feel. You were always entranced by his hands and loved fiddling with them when you guys were enjoying a lazy Sunday in bed.

When you guys got to your living room, you went to sit on the couch while you listened to Spencer getting the ingredients and tools to make hot chocolate for you. You grinned and began playing with the edge of your blanket as you thought about how lucky you were to have this kind, gorgeous man in your life.

How many guys would make you your favorite drink in the world to comfort you after a bad dream and offer to stay awake with you the rest of the night even though he has work the next day? Not many. But then again, Spencer isn’t like many guys. He’s incredibly special and unique and that’s what you love about him. As you continued thinking about the many great traits Spencer had, you heard him getting mugs out of the cupboard and pouring the hot liquid in them.

You waited for him to enter the room and you smiled up at him, “hey, hot stuff.”

He shook his head at your bad pun, “hey, Y/N. Ready for some hot cocoa?”

You reached your hand out for your mug as he sat down next to you, “yes! Thank youuuu.”

“No problem, love.”

You beamed at the pet name, which Spencer didn’t use too often. Not like you minded; it just made them all the more special when he did use them.

“Hey, Y/N?” he asked after you took a long sip of the nice drink.

You lifted your head, “hm?”

“I love you. I feel like I don’t say that enough, but I love you more than anything on the planet. And I’m sorry I can never do enough to comfort you after you have a particularly bad nightmare. I just want you to know that I care and I’ll always be here just to listen to you when you want to talk about them. You’re so much better than those horrible people and you didn’t deserve to go through what they put you through,” he smiled sadly as he finished speaking.

You put your mug down on the small coffee table, “Spence. Don’t ever apologize for what you just said. You make me feel so much better always. I love you, too. Thank you for being such a great boyfriend and person.”

He looked at you fondly, before springing up, “I have an idea!” He then ran out the room, confusing you.

You rolled with it, though, and just picked up your mug to take another sip. You had just set it back down when Spencer came in the room with an old iPod he had. He set it down and pressed some buttons before walking over to you.

The beginning notes for Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling in Love began to play as he offered you his hand. “Dance with me?”

You grinned up at him and dropped your blanket on the couch as you took his hand and stood up. You guys maneuvered around the table and started slow dancing to your favorite love song.

He sang along softly to the lyrics. “And I can’t help falling in love with you,” he crooned as he held you tighter and kissed the top of your head.

You moved your head back and captured his lips with yours.

You pulled your head back and whispered, “I love you, Spence.”

He smiled and looked at you with complete adoration in his eyes as he whispered back, “And I love you, Y/N.“

Wrote this short little fluff piece for you, @gubl-oser !

Loved the last prompt you did so I hope you don't mind if I suggest another. Could you another Voltron Klance one, with the prompt being that Keith and Lance have just revealed that they're dating and immediately, an excited Allura insists that she performs the Atlean courtship ceremony immediately. At first they decline, but Allura is so heartbroken they give it a shot since it's really important to her and her culture. Allura then goes bridezilla making sure it's perfect. Everyone suffers.

Of course I don’t mind! I’m glad you’re enjoying them :D <3 Hope you enjoy my inventing Altean courtship rituals on the fly lol

“So, long story short… we’re dating now!” Lance proclaimed, waving one hand in a jazz hands motion, the other occupied with Keith’s death grip. He grinned uncertainly at the rest of the team. Keith stared straight ahead, jaw clenched shut, a little too pale. Lance tried to watch him in his peripheral vision, wondering if maybe this was a mistake, and they should have waited a little longer. The two of them were barely adjusted to the idea yet, and if the rest of the team didn’t take it well…

Right on cue, the team exploded. Pidge was shouting “Oh WHO called it? WHO called it?” and slapping Hunk’s arm to get his attention. Hunk was spluttering, somewhere between disbelief and congratulations, while Coran literally ran in circles, up to Lance and Keith, where he shook both their hands, back to Hunk and Pidge to exclaim in amazement, and back to Lance and Keith again with the whole group’s congratulations. Shiro stood there blinking stupidly for almost a full minute before he snapped out of it enough to come up and rest his hand on their shoulders and say how happy he was for both of them. But Allura, she simply stood still, hands clasped together and her eyes sparkling like glitter. Once the hubbub had died down somewhat, she came forward, smiling widely at both of them.

“I am so very pleased for the both of you,” she said. “And, I know just the thing to celebrate. Coran, let’s give them a Majeval dance!” Lance and Keith glanced at each other.

“Um… a what now?” Keith asked.

“Majeval!” Coran said. “It’s an old Altean courtship ritual. Traditionally, every time we held a ball one of the songs would be Majeval. If you danced together during it, it meant you were courting each other. But it’s much more than that, there were all sorts of protocols involved.” Keith had pulled his hand out of Lance’s and was slowly backpedaling.

           “Uh, yeah, I don’t… I don’t dance.”

“That’s really sweet of you, Allura, but I dunno, ‘courtship’ seems kinda formal,” Lance said, also backing away. Her face fell.

“Oh, please, Paladins, you have no idea what you’re missing out on! The Majeval was always one of the most spectacular sights in the kingdom.”

“It won’t be if I’m doing it,” Keith muttered.

“Keith, please, I promise you it will be extraordinary. You’ll both love it.” Keith and Lance looked at each other, eyes wide. Allura held up her clasped hands. “Pleeeeease?” she asked. Lance and Keith both sighed, defeated.

“Okay,” Lance said. “How does this… Maje-whatever work?”

“YES!” Allura shrieked, and then seemed to realize how loud she’d been, because she cleared her throat and put her serious face back on. “First, you’ll need something better to wear. Shiro!” Her voice sounded so much like an army commander that Shiro snapped to attention on instinct before sheepishly relaxing.

           “Yes, Princess?” he asked.

“You know where the stores of extra clothes are in the closets by the laundry rooms? Coran and I sorted out everything we didn’t think you would actually be wearing not long after we woke up, so there should be a box labeled ‘Majeval.’ Find something in there to fit Lance and Keith.”

“You got it, Princess,” Shiro said, with a smile and a wink towards the mortified couple.

“Pidge!” Pidge jumped wildly, glasses almost falling off her nose. She shoved them back up hurriedly.

           “Uh, yes, Allura?” she asked.

“I will give you sheet music for the Majeval song. You are to recreate it using a computer.”

           “I’m not sure that I—”

           “Hunk!” Hunk looked pale.

           “Yes, Allura?” he asked hesitantly.

“You are to help Lance cook something sweet and something savory to offer to Keith.” Hunk breathed an audible sigh of relief.

“I can do that,” he said.

“Yes, Princess?” Coran was the only person besides Allura who looked at all eager.

“You are in charge of decorations,” she told him. “You know which ones.” Coran tipped an imaginary hat.

“That I do, Allura,” he said, tipping an imaginary hat.

“Well, don’t all just stand there. Get to work!” Allura shouted, sending the rest of the team scurrying off to their various tasks before turning to Lance and Keith with eyes as bright as a burning star. “As for you two,” she said, “I am going to teach you everything you need to know.”

It took a week before Allura let them actually hold the Majeval. It was a week full of the most exuberant and enthusiastic Allura any of them had ever seen, and at the end of it all of them had no desire to see her again anytime soon. If regular Allura could sometimes be a bit overzealous, Allura on a mission for courtship was downright scary. Lance and Keith felt like they were caught in their own personal tornado of obscure Altean traditions. There were sparkly jackets to be refitted, an official proposal that they dance together that had to be done with food that Hunk had mostly cooked anyway, practice for the words they had to say to start the dance, practice for the dance itself, they had to fight each other one-on-one during training one day for some reason, there was a night when Allura practically kidnapped Keith out of his bed and quizzed him on his history with Lance, until they frankly lost count of the number of things involved in Majeval. By the day of the dance they were exhausted and everyone except perhaps Coran was regretting that Lance and Keith hadn’t just stood their ground and turned down Allura’s offer, no matter how disappointed she would have been.

“It’s almost over,” Lance soothed Keith, rubbing his back lightly as they stood outside the door to the ballroom, which Allura hadn’t let anyone but Coran enter since this whole process started. Keith huffed and shrugged.

“This jacket is itchy,” he complained.

“Yeah, but I have to admit you look amazing in it,” Lance said, eyeing Keith up and down. The Alteans had a gorgeous sense of style, and the red and deep gold flame pattern cut a striking image. Keith snorted, but a smile tugged at the corner of his lips.

“Are you sure compliments are allowed?” he asked. “Are we off script?” Lance rolled his eyes.

“Who cares about a script?” he asked. “Scripts are boring.” He caught Keith around the waist and dipped a kiss to his surprised mouth. “I’d rather have you,” he whispered, and Keith rolled his eyes, clearly finding Lance as equally annoying and endearing as always. They both jumped back up when Allura pushed open the door.

“Are you ready?” she asked. Lance grinned and winked at her, and offered his arm to Keith.

“Shall we dance the Majeval together?” he asked.

“Nothing would please me more,” Keith deadpanned the response and Lance almost lost it, but then they stepped past Allura into the room and his breath fled.

Something reminiscent of Balmeran crystals glittered around the room, refracting light until rainbows shattered across the air. Pinpricks of light like stars covered the ceiling. Long banners with the Alten royal crest flowed down the walls. The castle was always elegant, but today this room had a feeling of softness and gracefulness to it that the sleek and practical ship usually lacked. Lance and Keith stood there and gaped until the first notes of the music trickling in startled them back to reality. They turned to each other. Keith was looking pale again, wetting his lips nervously. Lance caught his waist and grabbed his hand, pulling him close.

“Just like we practiced,” he murmured.

“Allura’s going to kill us if we do this wrong now,” Keith muttered in response, eyes fixed on their slowly circling feet. Lance glanced sideways at the door. Allura and the entire rest of the team were watching them eagerly. Pidge gave him a thumbs up. Lance turned back to Keith and briefly released his waist to tilt his chin up.

“Hey,” he murmured. “I’m in space, in a 10,000-year-old outfit, dancing with the most beautiful boy in the universe. Nothing is going to spoil this for me.” Keith’s eyes caught him and held him until his heart thundered in his chest. “Don’t worry about Allura or anything else. Just keep your eyes on me.” Keith smiled just slightly.

“I can do that,” he said.

[I am no longer accepting prompts, just completing the ones in my inbox]

  • I think everyone has a right to like and dislike characters, as a writer I sympathize with like everyone so it's hard for me to dislike a character so passionately.
  • I've just seen so much Scalia/Malia hate, more Malia hate than anything, and I'm trying to figure out why that is.
  • When Malia was introduced I was impartial, when Stalia happened I was like hell no, and I didn't like Malia for the simple fact that she was barely given screen time before heading into a romance with a main character in the most delusional/unhealthy (from a writer's standpoint aka mine). I saw the #AntiMalia posts and all I could think was I don't like her but that's way too far. They really don't have anything better to do with their time?
  • When season 5 came along and Malia actually got real serious development instead of being a comic relief I took notice. I appreciated what she was going through, I connected with her character. After her Tracey and Theo car ride moment I knew that I really liked this character and that there was no reason to hold the writer's piss poor job of her entry and relationship with Stiles against her.
  • I may be one of the only people on this world that didn't ship Scallison and Scira. Scallison was wayyyyyy too rushed. The first episode? Come on dude. I didn't get a choice if I wanted to see those two together the show said these two are going to be together, here you go, figure it out along the way. Scira was better for me because they had time to develop a friendship before but I have so many issues with Scira.
  • So I've never really successfully shipped anyone with Scott, which made me kinda sad over the seasons, it was always Stiles I was shipping people with. I DO NOT SHIP MALEO.
  • Once I realized how much I loved Scott and Malia as characters on their own without being romantically linked to anybody else I was more okay with the idea of them getting together. At first, like a lot of people I was weirded out because of Stiles BUT STILES DID THE SAME THING WITH LYDIA SO THERE SHOULDN'T BE A DOUBLE STANDARD.
  • By the rules of the show, which I don't recommend going off of lol, Scott and Malia can totally get together because we've seen it happen without any drama with Stydia. HONESTLY WHY PEOPLE ARE SHOCKED BY THIS IS A MYSTERY TO ME LIKE HAVE YOU NOT SEEN A SINGLE EPISODE OF ANY TEEN DRAMA WHERE THEY ALL DATE EACH OTHER MULTIPLE TIMES?!
  • I digress, my point is that most you only hate the idea of Scalia because of three reasons. You hate Malia for reasons people don't like to share. Saying you hate because there's something about her is a BULLSHIT argument. If you can't give episodes or specific details why look at yourself and ask why are you being malicious. Or you ship Scira. I get it. I would be salty too. BUT WE ALL KNOW KIRA ISN'T COMING BACK. STOP USING KIRA AS AN EXCUSE FOR YOUR HATE FOR THE SHIP. ARDEN MADE THE GOODBYE VIDEO LAST SEASON, LAST YEAR, YOU HAVE NO REASON TO BELIEVE SCIRA WILL BE TOGETHER OR GET MORE SCREEN TIME. IF THEY DIDN'T BREAK UP ON AIR HOPEFULLY THE WRITERS WILL EXPLAIN IT. KIRA WILL BE GONE FOR WHO KNOWS HOW LONG YOU CAN'T EXPECT SCOTT TO WAIT FOR SOMEONE THAT MAY NEVER COME HOME IN HIS LIFETIME. Or you have the mindset that Scott and Malia are the only two left single so they shouldn't be together just because that/boys and girls can be friends and nothing more.
  • GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE WITH THAT. If you think Scalia is happening soley because there the only ones left you haven't been paying attention or reading context clues. Posey and Shelley are really great friends which is why Scalia works and has a standing ground. Scalia is developed in much the same way. They have a BASIS OF FRIENDSHIP FIRST. They're both loyal to each other, protect each other, and kick ass together. They're iconic. And I still don't understand why people hate the friends into something more trope. That's a great trope. Just falling into a romance without being friends with a person is the trope I hate. BUILD THAT FRIENDSHIP YALL! MAJOR KEY ALERT.
  • https: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5dcfVp5UBU&list=PLBtjQJj3LJqtVgDDembnysfOs1GCEQQKs
  • I MEAN, LIKE YOU CAN SEE THAT THEY'VE HAD THAT TUNNEL SCENE AND THE ONE IN DEATON'S OFFICE, AND THE PORCH SCENE, AND ALL OF 6A!!! I suggest watching the Pennig vids first(Home, Soldier, and the This or That vids and the cutest upbeat scalia vid is And Your Smile Shining Bright)
  • PLEASE JUST GIVE THE VIDEOS A CHANCE, GIVE THE IDEA OF THEM BEING HAPPY A CHANCE BEFORE YOU WRITE THEM OFF. This vids at the beginning are a little AUey and are more manipued that the older ones because I made the playlist and they came out before 6a was released, the further you go down the list the more actual scalia scenes are used. I doubt any of us would be happy that Scott got a random new love interest for the last ten episodes that we know nothing about or care about and that wouldn't be in all ten episodes.
  • And lastly, Scott turned Malia human again. We all know that. If there hadn't been Scira or residual Scallison do you think you would've shipped Scalia then? I was blind to it until after 5b. He changed her back, she protected him from the Berserkers, from Enis at the hospital, he took care of her when she was drunk, helped with the Desert Wolf/Belasko talons, he told her he was still there for her after the Stalia breakup, if Peter hadn't bitten Scott none of this would've happened and obviously Peter's her dad. Like can yall see the lines here? And all this doesn't mean they have to be together, but if you really look at them and watch Shelley and Tyler together and Scott and Malia then hopefully you'll see what the rest of us see. Two amazing people that have come so far that care for each other they just so happen to figure out how much at the same time. : D
  • I LIED. LASTLY, PENNIG BITCHES!!!!! OHHH MY GOOOOOOD! THEY ARE LIKE LITERALLY SO IN LOVE WITH EACH OTHER, TYLER MORE SO PROBABLY BUT IT'S SO OBVIOUS. THEY'RE SOCIAL MEDIA GIVES ME HEART PALPITATIONS. SHELLEY IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND SO FUNNY! LIKE PENNIG HAS PHOTOSETS OF THEM POOPING, EATING PIZZA, AND JUST BEING WEIRD AF. "I could eat you" Come on, if Shelley didn't have a boyfriend I think Posey would be on that like white on rice. To be fair, I think he already is kinda. It's so obvious he's head over heels for Shelley.
  • BITCH I LIED AGAIN. Lastly, at the very least, the idea of them is adorable. Take out Stiles for a second. If it was just Scott had turned her back and she eventually found her way to the pack but Scira still happened and ended, the idea of them wouldn't be so yuck to some of yall I would think. He's good to her. She needs that after her first relationship that wasn't great in my opinion, but also wasn't as bad as some stydias like to say. I say stalia is all wrong from a writing standpoint not a shipping standpoint. He "tames" her in some ways when she was still learning and she could bring out a wilder side in him. Hu Anita's King and Lionheart Scalia vid on that playlist showcased them perfectly. Like Scott's the King and Malia is his Lionheart. Iconic Duo.

Imagine an Au where Sam wasn’t a goth girl and wasn’t friends with Danny and Tucker, but a rich girl who cares of what people think about her and is friends with Paulina.

This Au Sam lives as her parents’ puppet, Sam wants only to acceptance of her parent and become the prefect daughter they want her to be. Meaning wearing bright color clothing and hang out with people who have high standards such as Paulina and other popular kids. Although it doesn’t mean Sam is shallow or spoiled, she just trying to fit into society.

She still a very outspoken ultra-recyclo-vegetarian, bossy, passionate, strong-willed, and also good-hearted person. She isn’t spoiled, she never ever use her parents’ money nor ask for it. She actually work as a helper for a farm and animals shelter.

Sam secretly loves wearing black, listening to punk music, watching monsters movies, and reading ghost stories but hides it due to the fact her parents hate it and isn’t proper for a lady. She sometimes wish she could show her real self, which is why she’s jealous of Danny and Tucker, who openly express themselves and don’t care what others thinks.

Danny and Tucker thinks that Sam is another popular, shallow and spoiled kid. They were never friend not because they don’t like her but because Sam parents don’t want her socializing with the son of crazy ghost hunting parents. That doesn’t mean Danny isn’t the Ghost boy because Sam didn’t tell him to go exploring the ghost portal.

Sam thinks Ghost Danny really cool and admire even willing to ask his real name. She enjoys making logos for Danny Phantom and help him on ghost hunting since she’s a fan of ghost story. She feels like hangout with ghost Danny makes her feel she could be herself. She also the only one who puts the piece together and found out Danny Fenton is Danny Phantom. Sam envy and wanting befriend (but can’t) human Danny while she wants to help and found out more about Ghost Danny.

Though several events Danny change his opinion about Sam and she wasn’t the mean girl all the rumors says about her, but she really nice and down to earth. There was even times where Sam helps a lot on their ghost hunts. After having Sam risk her life countless times, Danny slowly grows a crush on her and help her break free from her miss prefect daughter act. Also Tucker realize Sam isn’t a bad person.

I imagine that in episode Beauty Marked:

Sam really don’t want to be in the pageant but because her parents force her. Sam knowing Danny secret and tried to warn him about Dora being a ghost. Danny who still didn’t know Sam knows his secret and accidentally choose her. Sam still dressed like a goth princess and acting in a sloppy manner as a plan where Prince Aragon wouldn’t want to marry her anymore.

It was Sam first time wearing black and say “I actually really like the color black”

when Danny finally saving her he would stumbled his words proving he’s not the human Danny.
Sam: “thanks Danny Fenton”
Danny: “of course! W-wait I mean I Danny PHANTOM will save any civilian in need”

What do you guys think about my AU.

You are right about the voltron fandom being a toxic place. There's this post going around about how that if you say that Hunk is a "pure person" or "sunshine" or anything nice, you don't know him and then it goes on to describe his flaws and how you shouldn't complement him because that means you don't care about him. Everyone was literally complaining how Hunk never gets enough love and that he is just resorted to food and fat jokes. He finally gets some recognition and love and now [part 1]

everyone is like “oh if you only focus on the good, you’re not really acknowledging him as a character and you need to stop” There is literally no damn way of pleasing this fandom. There is always drama. There is always some annoying, entitled little 15yo who thinks they are so experienced in the way the world works and believe they know what is best when it comes to a tv show. A thing that has no effect on reality itself and is meant for enjoyment. And all this stupid shipping nonsense [part 2]

Even the cast for voltron could care less about the stupid shipping rules. They even encourage people to broaden their horizons when it comes to it but all these idiots can do is judge and berate people. Like they are best, most innocent people who ever existed and they can do no wrong. I’m sorry to vent like this but I hate it. I hate that this fandom is going to always carry a bad name. I hate that anyone new that enters this fandom is going to be bullied and put down regardless of [part 3]

what they think or do. I just wish things were different and more at peace. I wish it was the ml fandom. With the ml fandom, they are much more accepting. They listen. They look at stuff you tag them in. They are so supportive and generous but nearly everyone in the vld fandom is entitled and think they are above everyone else just because of their stupid little ships. Anyway, sorry for the overload. If you decide to post this then thanks for replying back. If not then oh well [part 4]

I just came to you because I admire your maturity and mind. You have a way with words that I love and I thought this is something that would speak to you. Thanks for reading

You’re not wrong, anon, lol. The VLD fandom is… something else. Which is why I generally try to stay out of it. I’ll voice my opinion if I’m asked a question I want to answer, but generally I’ll keep it out of the tags unless I think it’s worth the drama (which is rarely). I mean, it still gets around anyway, but unlike my ML responses, I won’t usually respond to any of the comments, etc. It doesn’t matter what you say or what you headcanon, someone always has something to say to put it down, no matter the evidence you present or how reasonable you are. The thing with Voltron is that people are so territorial over their headcanons for the characters that anything different is seen as a threat. And that’s mostly due to the creators secrecy about character facts. I’m not blaming the creators–they can reveal whatever they want–but because so much is lacking validity, people are super, super territorial about their own ideas. Usually this is something that is kept to ships, because ship wars are “normal” in a fandom where the canon couples haven’t been determined yet. But because Voltron lacks information from character backgrounds to ages to relationships, everyone is overly territorial about everything. And when something does get revealed, everyone gets petty and nasty as a result.

Look at ML for example. It was set from the get-go who the canon couple would likely be and character information is generally given freely (like last names, ethnicities, etc). So headcanons are killed quickly and even those that ship something outside the lovesquare–like AdriNino–don’t get as much hate (I’m not saying they don’t get any, because they do. Which I don’t understand because it’s a ship that’s not hurting anything, like most ships don’t hurt anything, so, like, leave them be?) as people in the VLD fandom. This is because headcanons and things outside the canon are not seen as threats.

In Voltron, everything is a threat. And so people go over the deep end because they’re ridiculous and have no chill, and this is, apparently, the perfect outlet for their rage and aggression.

It’s disgusting and why I take down things I post, like outlines, if they start to cause even a small ruckus because I don’t want to deal with that bullshit in my inbox.

Like tumblr in general, it’s just not worth the stress because, at the end of the day, the pathetic arguments we have here aren’t going to change the world, so if it’s a place you don’t want to be or you can’t have fun in the discourse, it’s better to just ignore it and do your own thing.

Also, Hunk is a sweetheart no matter his character flaws and anyone who thinks otherwise can fight me. Or try to, but I likely won’t respond XD

Why do you further the cliché that sangwoo is into forcing Bum to crossdress? I thought the manwha made it clear that it was the logical consequence for him to wear sangwoo's mother's clothes because he didn't have any himself and sangwoo's didn't fit him due to the size difference. It's not a kink and shouldn't be portrayed as one. It was a disturbing solution to a clothing problem. Stop romanticizing this manwha and the abuse in it.

Oh sweet anon, if you want to have a proper discussion with me I’ll gladly have it with you but not if you feel the need to hide behind your computer/phone screen. But for now I’ll just try and clarify, not because I owe you anything, but I like clearing up misunderstandings and preventing more from happening.

I don’t know if you just don’t read Op’s tags or you just skim past them or whatever, but this, and all my other “shippy” fanart for that matter, is in an AU where they are both healthy people, no mental disorders, abuse or anything else from the original manhwa.

If you really want to think about it, the clothing size difference is not enough of an excuse for Sangwoo not to give Bum his own clothes. How many people do you see wearing over sized shirts and belts exist for a reason. I’m not saying Sangwoo has that kink, but come on, he did that on purpose.

Relating to my own mini comic that I just posted, which I’m guessing is what you’re referring to, Sangwoo isn’t forcing bum into anything. It’s a silly dare that Yoon Bum could easily say no to. Except in my AU Bum actually likes cross dressing, a lot of people do and there is nothing wrong with it. I like drawing boys who cross dress, because guess what, they’re just clothes. They don’t define anything. You’re welcome to not enjoy cross dressing but that is your own opinion that I never asked for.

I will never romanticize the abuse that’s in killing stalking. There’s nothing cute or sexy about people harming others or holding them captive. The only instance where inflicting pain on others would be acceptable is in cases where it is consensual, such as BDSM, but I am no expert in that area so I can’t comment much on it either.

All I’m saying is, this is a completely separate world from the original. I love the characters and their designs and I love exploring different ideas and scenarios with them, that’s the whole purpose of having an AU. Again, you’re welcome to disagree, and if you don’t like it, please ignore it. Sorry if my art rubs you the wrong way, I can’t please everyone. I make art for myself, and I love and appreciate all the people that enjoy it with me. Feel free to block me or whatever you need to do, but in the future please try and refrain from sending negative messages to people, they do more harm than good.I hope you have a nice day anyway and thanks for giving me an opportunity to clarify my stance once more.

Could you please make a tutorial on how you draw your characters? Your art is so nice but you don't have to if you're busy!!!

i’ve recently simplified the way i draw- so it’s a lot faster for me and i personally prefer the outcome… but it’s probably not the easiest or the most helpful to learn from??? but ill try my best o(-<

so um this is just the basics of how i draw faces now

i used to draw out circles and sketch out where i wanted the details of the face, but it definitely took a lot longer and for some reason i would always make the eyes really big?? and the jaw really strange?? so now i find this method is a lot easier for me and helps me keep my facial proportions more accurate

but ofc adding guidelines underneath can be really helpful!! add as many underneath as you need

um i find hair is something everyone does differently though so i don’t have many tips for this part???

the only detail i think worth mentioning here is that i think hairlines are a fun detail to add! they help me diversify the hairstyles i draw and add a sense of realism??

definitely the way i draw now is not something that will work for everyone- but hopefully this gives you a rough idea of how i draw faces?

ill add some more tips/details under the cut,,,

idk if tumblr ate mine (it does that like 70% of the time, I don't know what I'm doing wrong) but I requested the daughter thing for Cor? I'm sorry if you already got it. I'm also sorry because your inbox is probably filled with these kinds of requests OTL

This…became a lot longer than I anticipated lol, I hope you enjoy nonnie!

  • So the whole way that you and Cor had started dating was through work.  It’s where the two of you met and considering you two ended up running into each other so often it wasn’t really surprising that the two of you ended up becoming close
  • It took a couple years before Cor actually asked you out though
    • he fought with the morality of it as dating a coworker had always been one of those things that was something of a no-no
    • He also may or may not ask one of his closer friends Gladio what their opinion of it would be but he’d do it in that way where he’s like “~hypothetically~ if this happened what would you do?”
      • Gladio just has a shit eating grin on his face bc well who would’ve thought the Marshal would be so worked up about something like this
      • so Cor walks away grumbling to himself
  • Anyway, the two of you start dating obvs and it’s a really chill relationship tbh?? Once you get Cor comfortable enough to stop worrying too much about what others will think of it he’s just a real cool d00d to be around and you’ve honestly never felt so comfortable around someone before
  • And the best part is that you don’t have to worry about how to tell him about the fact you have a daughter bc you’d told him a while back when the two of you were first getting to know each other – before the idea of dating was even something either of you entertained
  • You do end up waiting a while before you actually introduce your daughter to Cor though
    • not really any particular reason for it, it just never really…came up??? like your daughter was always at school during the day and you and Cor saw each other at work all the time
    • and when you and Cor went on dates you always had a babysitter ready to watch your daughter
  • so the first time Cor meets your daughter is when he begins to stay the night at your house which is well into your relationship
  • Cor is instantly taken with her which is a surprise both to Cor himself and you.  Your daughter also seems to be exited to have a new friend to play with, though Cor does seem to be somewhat out of his element when first attempting to have a fairy tea party with her.
  • In a strange way the two of them seem to find a deep sense of companionship in one another; they’re similar in quite a few ways.
  • One night your daughter comes into your room after having a bad dream, tears staining her chubby cheeks.
    • Normally she comes over to your side, but tonight she ends up wandering over to the side of the bed where Cor is sleeping.
    • She gently nudges his arm in an attempt to wake him, and it takes only one more try before he starts awake.
    • At first he’s confused as to how a small child has gotten into his room, but he quickly remembers where he is and that this is your daughter.
    • “I-I had a bad dream,” your daughter sniffles.  “Can I sleep with you tonight daddy?”
    • Up until that moment Cor had still been a little too groggy to be fully aware of what was happening, but that one question was enough to wake him up as if a bucket of ice water had been poured over him.
    • You’re still sound asleep as Cor nods to your daughter, moving so she could climb into bed between you and him.
    • She settles down and latches onto Cor’s arm, her sniffling softening until she’s fast asleep
    • Cor’s not quite sure what just happened exactly, but he definitely recognizes the warmth and fondness that spreads through his chest as he looks at two of the most important people in his life
  • He’s finally found a family

anonymous asked:

Hey! Do you think you can make a post about your kindle/e-reader? I would love to hear your thoughts on it. Thank you❤️

Yes, of course!!

I’ve had my Kindle Paperwhite since 2015, and I am absolutely in love with it! For anyone who doesn’t know, Kindles are e-readers created by Amazon.  There are four versions currently for sale:

- Kindle: The basic Kindle device (which currently costs $79.99 on Amazon) is the cheapest e-reader Amazon offers and, consequently, the one with the least features.  It’s just a simple touchscreen, so you can either tap or swipe to change the page (to go either forward or backward).  As far as I can tell, there are really two things that set this Kindle apart from the Paperwhite: it has a lower screen resolution–only 167 ppi compared to the Paperwhite’s 300 ppi (for perspective, the iPhones 6 and 7 both have 326 ppi, at least according to a quick Google search I just did haha),which really isn’t a huge deal as the text is still perfectly visible for reading; and the screen doesn’t light up.  This second flaw is really the only reason I chose the Paperwhite instead.  While you would still be able to read just fine in daylight, you would have to turn on a lamp or something to read in the dark.  I imagine you could buy a book light and clip it onto the device, but I just personally felt that would be more hassle than I wanted.

- Kindle Paperwhite: The Paperwhite (which is what my Kindle is), currently costs $119.99 on Amazon.  You can pay more to get your Kindle with built-in WiFi and/or 3G, but I have never quite understood how that works and not having it has not been a problem for me, so I wouldn’t recommend that.  Again, the Paperwhite is just a touchscreen like the cheapest model.  It actually has the biggest screen of all the Kindle devices, which is interesting.  I pretty much already covered the differences, so basically it is just the basic Kindle with a built-in light and higher screen resolution.  In my experience, the built-in light is one of the best things about Kindles because it allows me to read in the dark without needing a lamp (which is especially convenient when I’m outside or in a car in the dark–I still remember the struggle of squinting in attempt to read in the car at night because my parents would never let me turn on the lights in the car).  The light is adjustable, so you can have it set to anywhere from 0 (basically no light) to 24 (AKA blinding light).  To give you an idea of how bright it is, I typically keep it at around 10 when I’m reading in the dark before bed and increase it to 15 or so during the day–it all depends on the lighting.  As you might expect, it definitely drains the battery more if you keep the brightness high, but it’s clearly not necessary to have it that bright.

- Kindle Voyage: The Kindle Voyage, which was the fanciest model at the time when I was trying to figure out which one to get, costs $199.99 on Amazon at the moment.  Its screen is smaller than that of the Paperwhite (but slightly bigger than the basic Kindle), but its main feature is that it has “page press,” which is basically just these sensor-button things on either side of the screen.  You can still use the touchscreen as you would on the other Kindles, but you can also change the page simply by pressing the buttons.  Initially, this was the Kindle I wanted, but I tried it out in a Best Buy store and decided against it.  The “buttons” aren’t raised or anything, so instead you have to press pretty hard on the side of the device to get the page to turn, which just seemed like more effort than it was worth, in my opinion (granted, that was two years ago, so it’s possible they have since improved the technology–if you think you might be interested, I’d recommend going to a physical store that sells the devices to try it out for yourself).  In my opinion, it’s just not worth an extra $80 just for some buttons and a smaller screen.

- Kindle Oasis: Finally the most recent addition to the Kindle family is the Oasis, which costs $289.99.  In my opinion, this is way too much money for not much improvement.  What makes it costs so much is that it comes with a cover that charges the device.  Frankly, unless you’re going to be somewhere where you won’t have access to electrical outlets for weeks (or, according to Amazon, months), there’s no reason to pay this much money (as far as I can tell).  As I will explain more later, all of the Kindles have incredibly long battery life even without this fancy cover.  I just don’t get the point of the device.

Kindle eBooks

As someone who doesn’t make a habit of purchasing new books, I love buying books on my Kindle.  I am fortunate enough that I usually receive several Amazon gift cards each year from family and friends, so I just put them on my account and constantly keep my eye out for deals.  I never buy Kindle books for full price (frankly I think $10 for just a digital copy is ludicrous), but Amazon constantly puts eBooks on sale for $2.99 or less.  Most books I buy are $1.99, and they’re not just random books no one has heard of.  To give you an idea, here are a few books I have purchased for $2.99 or less in the past year or so:

  • I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai
  • First & Then by Emma Mills
  • The Love That Split the World by Emily Henry
  • My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows, and Brodi Ashton
  • Open Road Summer by Emery Lord
  • Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

And the list goes on…

Also, as you may know, most classic novels can be “purchased” for free in eBook format as older novels are usually in the public domain.  This comes in handy when I want to have a more portable copy of whatever book I’m reading for class, as most are in the public domain.

While I love both of those features, the way I get most of my eBooks is through my local library’s digital book collection.  Many public libraries offer eBooks through Overdrive, and those eBooks can easily be sent to your Kindle for you to read while you have them checked out.  I absolutely love this because I could get a new book in the middle of the night without the obstacle of library hours.

As I alluded, the Kindles (or at least the Paperwhite) last forever without charging.  Depending on how much I’ve been using my Kindle, I can usually go at least one week, if not two or three without charging (and even then, I’ve never actually let it run out of power).  I never have to worry about bringing my charger on vacations because I know I’ll be fine, which is so great.

Kindle Features

Here are a few of my favorite features of Kindles:

  • Goodreads: You can easily access Goodreads on Kindle, which is nice for finding new books and updating your reading progress.
  • Kindle Store: You can also get to the Kindle Store and purchase books right on your device, which lends itself well to impulse buying (thus how I have so many books on my Kindle, haha).
  • Highlights: It’s super easy to highlight quotes you like, all of which are stored in a “book” called “My Clippings” for easy access (it even stores highlights from library eBooks that have since been returned).  As you can probably guess, this is super useful for me in storing quotes to share with you guys, especially if I am at school when I come across them, though I’m weird and nostalgic so I like to go back and look at the dates and times when I highlighted certain quotes (I like to figure out what class I was in at the time lol).  Also, the highlights do save even if you are not on WiFi.
  • Dictionary: Even when you’re not connected to WiFi, you can always click on a word (or sometimes even a phrase) to look it up in the dictionary.  On WiFi, you can also look up a word on Wikipedia or have the device attempt to translate it into another language.

eBooks vs. Physical Books

I know lots of people are against eBooks (in fact, I used to be one of them), but I love them so much.  The Kindle screen really feels like you’re just looking at paper, so I don’t find it to be hard on my eyes at all, unlike how my phone and computer are.  It makes me able to read more books in more places and carry multiple books at once.  It has been so incredibly helpful with reading at school.  Now, I am able to sometimes walk to class while reading (I haven’t run into anyone yet lol), and it’s not quite so cumbersome to get a book out and start reading as it is with a physical book.  I do still love physical books and read them regularly.  I think they both certainly have their merits!

So, long story short, I absolutely adore my Kindle!  I use it almost every single day.  If anyone has any more questions about Kindles, please feel free to ask!!

Could you do that cool au ask but with Shance!

Who’s the werewolf and who’s the hunter?
Lance is the werewolf and Shiro’s the hunter. Shiro’s always known werewolves to be big, aggressive and prone to violence, and was taught that they’re not to be trusted - then he meets Lance. Lance is cute and flirty and Shiro doesn’t know what to make of him because ??
Who’s the mermaid and who’s the fisherman?
Mhmmm I could go either way with this tbh.
Lance as a mermaid prince who’s always been curious about the world above, he frequently takes trips to the surface and one day comes across fisherman Shiro. He starts watching him, helps him catch fish and ends up falling for him.
Alternatively mermaid Shiro. Lance works on one of those big fishing boats and one day Shiro ends up caught in their net. The others all want to sell him or keep him as an attraction but Lance is against it, and later when no one’s paying attention he sets him free. Lance is fired but still goes out fishing on his own boat where he meets Shiro again, who wants to thank him.
Who’s the witch and who’s the familiar?
Witch Lance and familiar Shiro! Lance originally summons Shiro when he’s young. Shiro’s a black kitten with a patch of white on his head - at least that’s what Lance originally thought. Shiro grows a lot larger than expected however, and oops actually he was a lion cub. He’d never even considered it at first because no one had ever heard of a black lion, he just thought Shiro was a big boy.
Who’s the barista and who’s the coffee addict?
Lance is one of those show off barista’s who makes everything they do flashy - but not in a bad way. Shiro’s constantly coming in for coffee, and it always seems to be when Lance is working. At first he’s like ‘does he have a crush on me??’ but actually Shiro is studying (idk what but something hard) and he constantly has assignments due which means he gets so little sleep and basically lives on coffee. Lance tries testing the waters once and flirts with him and Shiro, who’s literally never paid any attention to anything there because he’s dead inside, ‘sees’ him for the first time and is like ‘holy shit!!’
Who’s the professor and who’s the TA?
I don’t have as much of an idea for this but Shiro as that really popular professor that doesn’t really care what you do in class as long as you’re not disruptive and pay attention and get the work done. Lance is simultaneously the TA who all the students love because he’s fun, but also the one that all the students love to tease
Who’s the knight and who’s the prince?
I’m a sucker for Altean prince Lance so ofc prince Lance and knight Shiro. Either knight Shiro is tasked to look after/guard the prince who likes to sneak out and cause a little trouble. Or like knight Shiro saving the prince from something but also Lance being like ‘lol’ and taking out a bunch of monsters/guards/whatever he’s meant to be being saved from and so Shiro’s like ! 0///0
Who’s the teacher and who’s the single parent?
Teacher Shiro and single parent Lance who has a small sassy child who tends to speak their mind which gets them in trouble a lot. It leads to a lot of parent-teacher meetings but honestly Lance isn’t complaining, his kid isn’t doing anything too bad and he gets an excuse to see the hot teacher
Who’s the writer and who’s the editor?
Hmmm either works for me but I want it to be like a strikingly huge difference between them and the things they write. Whoever is the editor in the au picks up their books after their last editor quits/retires.
Shiro writes a lot of soft, sensitive type things so when Lance meets this big, scarred buff guy for the first time he’s like…. wait…
Writer Lance writes a lot of raunchy, erotic novels so Shiro’s surprised to find that when he starts to question Lance about inspiration and motivation after a point Lance starts to get fidgety and embarrassed. Shiro’s not bothered by stuff like that so he doesn’t mind asking the more embarrassing questions but Lance is finally like ‘no! enough! please!’ his last editor just took his stuff he didn’t care about creating a relationship. He’s actually pretty shy underneath his flirty facade and doesn’t have much experience with the stuff he writes about.
