but faith was what saved him

Don’t think about how when Aizawa was being beaten by Nomu, he kept fighting to protect his students despite knowing he couldn’t win, just desperately buying time in case Toshinori could really make the impossible happen

Don’t think about how a cynic like him, who casts away students who don’t have potential without a second thought, had faith that Toshinori would show and save the day and prove that heroes would always prevail

Don’t think about how as they broke his body they also broke what little spirit he had left as he accepted the reality that no one was going to save him

And don’t think about how in his last conscious moments he probably thought this was his end and how they would come for Toshinori next

Don’t think about him wishing he could’ve done more, or at least told him he loved him

And for the love of God do not think about him waking up in that hospital bed, realizing All Might really did save him, that he took a leap of faith and that impossible ray of sunshine caught him

Galatians 3:1-14 (TLB)
Oh, foolish Galatians! What magician has hypnotized you and cast an evil spell upon you? For you used to see the meaning of Jesus Christ’s death as clearly as though I had waved a placard before you with a picture on it of Christ dying on the cross. Let me ask you this one question: Did you receive the Holy Spirit by trying to keep the Jewish laws? Of course not, for the Holy Spirit came upon you only after you heard about Christ and trusted him to save you. Then have you gone completely crazy? For if trying to obey the Jewish laws never gave you spiritual life in the first place, why do you think that trying to obey them now will make you stronger Christians? You have suffered so much for the Gospel. Now are you going to just throw it all overboard? I can hardly believe it!

I ask you again, does God give you the power of the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you as a result of your trying to obey the Jewish laws? No, of course not. It is when you believe in Christ and fully trust him.

Abraham had the same experience—God declared him fit for heaven only because he believed God’s promises. You can see from this that the real children of Abraham are all the men of faith who truly trust in God.

What’s more, the Scriptures looked forward to this time when God would save the Gentiles also, through their faith. God told Abraham about this long ago when he said, “I will bless those in every nation who trust in me as you do.” And so it is: all who trust in Christ share the same blessing Abraham received.

Yes, and those who depend on the Jewish laws to save them are under God’s curse, for the Scriptures point out very clearly, “Cursed is everyone who at any time breaks a single one of these laws that are written in God’s Book of the Law.” Consequently, it is clear that no one can ever win God’s favor by trying to keep the Jewish laws because God has said that the only way we can be right in his sight is by faith. As the prophet Habakkuk says it, “The man who finds life will find it through trusting God.” How different from this way of faith is the way of law, which says that a man is saved by obeying every law of God, without one slip. But Christ has bought us out from under the doom of that impossible system by taking the curse for our wrongdoing upon himself. For it is written in the Scripture, “Anyone who is hanged on a tree is cursed” (as Jesus was hung upon a wooden cross).

Now God can bless the Gentiles, too, with this same blessing he promised to Abraham; and all of us as Christians can have the promised Holy Spirit through this faith.

I can’t help but to thank God for all that He is. He is Love, He is grace, He is; trust, faith, my strength and hope. I could say how thankful I am of what He’s saved me from. Thank Him for what He’s done, is doing, and will do. But I fail to realize that I am grateful just to be His daughter.

If Jesse just left Cassidy there letting him burn to death.. Well, I’m not sure if he legit left him or at least put the fire out, but he definitely didn’t help him after that. So, here’s what I think. Tulip left the church through the back door but she still needs her car, right? And her car’s parked not so far from the front entrance. You can see it behind Jesse and Cassidy in the first screencap. I think, it’s pretty hard not to notice a burning man outside the church, if he was still lying there dying in agony, she would immediately run to Cass and help him out in some way. That’s what I love about Tulip, I have the utmost faith in her. So this thing with the next episode’s synopsis where “Tulip hopes to save a friend”, it could be about Cass, I guess. He’ll certainly need some help; he needs blood to recover. He can’t do it by himself in his current condition. Maybe Tulip will help him while Jesse is too busy with these.. um, Meat Men, and Genesis, trying not to fuck up.. again. (But he probably will anyway.)

Anon from before, thanks so much for answering my question! I agree with your points. I think Levi's faith in Erwin wavered in c72 and he might not have considered injecting him had c80 not happened. Erwin proved he puts humanity first and Levi is convinced he will save them. Levi was obsessed with finding out what Erwin's post-basement plans were should he not put humanity first, but now his faith is restored and he knows Erwin will repay that faith in him! :)

It’s alright! I’m always happy to as my thoughts posts are always written in a rush.

I’m not entirely sure if his faith wavered, though their interaction would have been frustrating for him– I think he’d be used to Erwin’s kind of behaviour by now, unless you meant with the part Erwin admits this goal was above gaining victory for him, but even then, he seems to place Erwin’s dream very highly on his priorities list. Levi was adamant before the charge in 80 to save Erwin as well, even suggesting a plan that ensured he and Eren escaped before Erwin even reached the conclusion he’d have to lead the charge, so I think the situation with the serum became paramount once he was in immediate danger. He’d probably considered it somewhat, at the least.

I like to think the obsession with post-basement plans was a means of judging just how far Erwin expected to go, question him a little. The fact he couldn’t really answer would have been somewhat concerning and that what would normally be that typical uncertainty of survival became a topic far more grim and decided. Erwin’s always been a little like that, but Levi argued for the sake they needed him now, more than ever.

I don’t doubt that act of selflessness renewed some faith, but I think it was a faith that had not really budged, only grown, sort of thing.

Why Do I Believe in God?

It’s a simple question really why I believe in Him, it’s because I am here and I live in His own image and likeness. He has done so many things for mankind and He has given me hope to live everyday without being afraid of anyone. I believe in Him because of the teachings in our church and how God gave His only son to save the people around you and I. I believe in His very existence because He has done wonderful things. He has so many beautiful creations in this world and many more creations that we couldn’t even explain.

I believe in God because He has given me the eternal life that I know I don’t deserve because I am a sinner, and that because I believe in His Son I am already saved. My faith in Him is so strong that I don’t even question “Is HE even real?” I believe in Him because of what is written in our holy book the bible. How He has touched lives of different people. How He saved them all from trials, and how He showed them that He loves man the most.

I believe in Him because I know HE loves me. I feel His arms sometimes embracing me when I cry and telling me that I should not give up. I believe in Him because He has given me the answers to all of my questions so far in life. I believe in Him because I love Him, and I understand that He has planned great things for me. I know that God is there because He has shown me that I can be far greater than who I was then.

Many may think that God does not exist, but even so I will still believe in Him. It’s nice to have hope everyday that my God protects me and already has big plans for this young girl. I believe in Him because I know that he is controlling my life to do good things and be a great follower.  I believe in God because He is my creator, protector and most of all my hope, and I know with Him nothing can go wrong.

AU! In which Clarke actually followed through with medical school and is a doctor. But when her friend Finn dies despite her efforts to save him, her faith in the medical field begins to crumble. As Clarke sorts through her feelings regarding Finn’s death and Finn himself, she is consoled by Lexa, a past acquaintance. Together, the two of them uncover truths about themselves they were not so sure existed. And of course, in the process, they fall deeply in love. But what’s a love without a little–i mean a lot–of pining first? Clexa will be endgame (more like midgame) I promise, and so will Raven/Octavia. A big part of this story will be Clarke questioning her decision to become a doctor, and so we will see the artist Clarke we all know and love. Additionally, Clarke and Lexa evolve from once enemies to then lovers so we will be seeing a multitude of flashbacks, some of which will also focus on other characters. of course I'm going to support sehun and fight the people that don't, I myself am bi so like I know what its like to have people not understand you but is it wrong to feel like my crush just came out as gay? I really like him... I'm a fan I don't have a chance but like me a little sad now

hi anon, first of all thank you for your support. faithfulness is very important in my life so I’m very happy for our idol. I myself am straight but I don’t like biased people. I believe nothing good will come by judging or cursing people that their only crime is loving. the world’ll be saved by love. That’s my faith. so it’s not a bad thing if he comes out bi/straight/gay, is it? I’m even a SeKai stan. I’ve been guessing this way before. but there is only one Sehun. and I understand you dear. there is nothing wrong to be sad over it. you’re just disappointed and it’s normal. our reaction is for those who gave up loving him and started unstanning for this. Let’s love and support him even more. thank you :))

Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.
1 John 3:18

If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.
1 Corinthians 13:1‭-‬3

What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself. But someone may well say, “You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.”
James 2:14‭-‬18

I don't really know how to write this question properly but do you think Jason has any faith left for the rest of JL? Or any hero for that matter after what happened to him and since the great batman couldn't save him?

I feel like even though he’s lost his faith in Bruce, he hasn’t lost his faith in the other heroes. He knows that heroes can – and it’s very likely that they will – fail, but he also knows that you can’t always save everyone. Nobody is exempt from failure, even metahumans. He still has faith in their abilities, he just doesn’t glorify them.

anonymous asked:

any or all of these pls? 8, 11, 26, 37, and 46.

Thank you so much for the questions!! Below a cut because I accidentally rambled a lot

8. How does your character feel about religion?
Elden’s views on religion are complicated. He struggles with his faith a lot but he really kind of needs it and the sense of hope and peace it brings him. He’s seen the good side of Andrastianism, what it’s supposed to represent and the people it can save. But after serving in the Chantry for nearly 10 years he’s also seen the bad and he really hates what organized religion has warped it into. Ultimately though the Chantry was there for him when he was suicidal and without hope and he wants it to be that for everyone who might need it.

11. How do they see themselves: as smart, as intelligent, uneducated?
Elden has severe dyslexia and since learning disabilities aren’t really a thing in Thedas, he just assumes he isn’t very smart. I mean, he’s pretty well educated, being a noble’s son and also spending years in the Chantry, but he’s never performed well in classes and had to work much harder than others and was always a year or two behind the other kids his age. Luckily private tutors meant no one else knew. His family dumped a fortune into his education just trying to catch him up.

He reads agonizingly slowly, he doesn’t pick things up very quickly and often needs things repeated, things like that. He spends a lot of his free time trying to improve but there are things he’ll just never be good at. He’s well spoken and has pretty good penmanship, but those are mostly just to compensate and hopefully not seem as unintelligent as he feels. He’s actually smarter than he thinks though, particularly with math and history.

26. What does your character’s home look like? Personal taste? Clothing? Hair? Appearance?
Elden doesn’t really have much taste. Honestly if he was in charge of buying furniture he’d just get whatever was the least expensive and just end up with a mismatched mess. Luckily other people have been in charge of furnishing his homes so it hasn’t really been an issue. Inquisition was Josephine, Kirkwall was Varric (or more likely whoever he hired) and after that he was living at Dorian’s place.

While in Kirkwall, he indulged a bit and bought some random decorations and stuff, like bowls with suns pated on them. Just pointless little trinkets. The memories of going shopping with Dorian were more important than whatever garbage he actually bought and sometimes he got something just because it was silly or Dorian thought it was particularly hideous. They don’t have the chance to do anything like that in the future so they just wanted to experience it while they could. That was pretty much everything they did in Kirkwall though.

There were a few places Elden stayed briefly between Kirkwall and moving in with Dorian, but by then he’d gone back to living with as little possessions as possible so he could pick up and move if necessary. None of those places were home to him since Dorian wasn’t there so he didn’t really care about anything but the necessities.

Elden’s lack of taste extends to his person as well. He is not stylish at all. He owns some nice clothing, mostly thanks to his parents or later Josephine. And he’ll make an effort for Dorian of course, although if they properly ever move in together you know Dorian will probably make him go to a taylor or something. Elden definitely needs help picking out what he should be wearing particularly in fancy settings.

Ultimately he doesn’t really care and will prioritize comfort and practicality. He wears the leather outerwear most of the time and probably makes Josephine cry because of it. Same goes for his hair. He doesn’t even really bother styling it. It’s wavy, too, so it curls weirdly and it just doesn’t seem to be worth it so he lets it do what it wants. He doesn’t have a very good sense of self, so he doesn’t really have a good concept of how he looks and appears to others (beyond his size of course) so he forgets things like needing to appear like an Inquisitor. He’s good at the body language and acting in general, but forgets that clothing can be a big part of that.

37. How is your character’s imagination? Daydreaming a lot? Worried most of the time? Living in memories?
Elden doesn’t have a very good imagination, but that certainly doesn’t stop him from daydreaming. What he lacks in creativity he makes up for in the vast amount of reading he does and he is very much a romantic. So yes, he spaces out a lot but he also worries all the time so it’s a 50/50 guess if he’s thinking about fluffy stuff or ways everything can go wrong. After Inquisition, he doesn’t really need an imagination to be creative about that.

Otherwise, Elden is a very in-the-moment kind of person. He has a hard time looking and preparing for the future, particularly because he isn’t really used to having much of one to consider. He tends to overthink it and make everything a bigger deal than he needs to. And he also doesn’t like to dwell on the past much, there’s too much regret there. However, this means that, despite his constant tendency to worry, he’s pretty good in a pinch and can make good decisions under stress.

46. Is your character tall? Short? What about size? Weight? Posture? How do they feel about their physical body?
Elden is Big. He’s broad and big and self conscious about it. He works out a lot as a way to destress and he enjoys physical activity as well so that just makes him even bigger. He’s taller than Dorian, but I’m indecisive so I’m not sure if it’s just a few inches or if he’s a giant. Either way, he doesn’t like his size because he’s constantly worrying about hurting people or frightening them. The last thing he wants to do is frighten someone. He actually starts slouching in an attempt to seem smaller and less threatening.

He starts out Inquisition with a bit of softness to him. He’s definitely buff underneath, just with some extra padding. By the end of Inquisition he’s pretty much all muscle though. He doesn’t really have many thoughts on his body beyond just “too big” but I think he’s vaguely aware that some might find him attractive? It’s more of an ambiguous concept though and it’s usually buried under the worry of attracting the wrong sort of attention. It’s easier to not attract anyone at all than try to explain to a girl that actually he isn’t into women at all please stop flirting with him. He gets more confident and less worried about that the older he gets although he still rarely intentionally shows off. Unless Dorian is there of course

Okay but I would probably die if the reboots ever retold the tarsus iv incident. Like could you imagine seeing flashbacks to little baby Kirk as he watched people around him get executed, as he starves, as he slowly loses faith that he would ever get saved, as he slowly loses faith in star fleet. Kirks reaction to coming face to face with Kodos again. Everyone else when they realise what Kirk went through, what happened oh god I wouldn’t survive it but I also want it so much whhhy
