19th: Your character must write a thank you note. Who is it to, and what is it about?
In a burned out home lofted high above in the trees of Feralas, there rested very few belongings that managed to escape the flames. Books and papers, most ruined by the flames and ruins, rested in old husks of shelves that collapsed long ago.
Along the ruins, there was a box… broken and cracked by the intense heat, but somehow saving the multitude of items inside of it. Tucked away, near the top of the stack of items, rested an unsent letter. Saved and locked away for who knows how long.
It was addressed to nobody, and no name rested at the bottom. Like a simple note, passed only from the author to the intended recipient, it read:
‘It has been a while since you have first come through my doors, seeking guidance on a subject of which you were tired of asking upon. You paid your price tenfold, and though I had tried my best, I could give you nothing in return that soothed the pain you felt at that time. All that could be done had been, and in favor of a decision I so quickly made, you spent time there with me longer than most who come for what you did prefer to.
When you pleaded with me to give you a place, I had, and the job that you took on was done well. It is hard to find someone so dedicated as you had been, and for all you had asked, you did far more in return. The time you spent protecting me and my collection as you had was a mere blink of an eye, but never the less was memorable in it’s time.
You are the one that changed how things were. You were the one who forced yourself closer out of a need you told me of far later in our time together. You are the one who did so much to change how those simple times had been.
You changed me.
I never had taken the time to thank you for it, to offer true words for you to hear of it. Only my actions had ever spoken of what you deserved. So it is now, in this moment that I write this, that I wish to let you know truthfully what you need to know.
Thank you, Taliorinth, for what you have done. For what you have changed. For the love you have shared with me now.
Thank you for showing me that I do not have to live my life completely alone, as I so desperately wished to convince myself I had to.
Thank you, My Rose, for I love you dearly now and forever more.’
for the people who are confused, annalise’s mother did burn down her own home to kill the man (annalise’s uncle) who molested annalise as a child. she told her this in season one. what’s going on is ophelia has dementia and is confusing annalise’s house fire with her own.
You were nineteen the first time you felt this. This disbelief. This anger. Eyes stinging. Throat raw. Choking on the smoke of a thousand burning homes. You’d had the body almost a year. The training. You had scars. You’d been shot at so many times that you laughed when you found yourself staring down the barrel of a gun. But you weren’t a soldier… until that day.
There it is. There’s the look. I’ve seen it for seventeen years on face after face. You all despise me. Kingslayer. Oathbreaker. A man without honor. You’ve heard of wildfire, of course? The Mad King was obsessed with it. He loved to watch people burn, the way their skin blackened and blistered and melted off their bones. […] So we opened the gates and my father sacked the city. Once again, I came to the King, begging him to surrender. He told me to… bring him my father’s head. Then he turned to his pyromancer. “Burn them all,” he said. “Burn them in their homes. Burn them in their beds.”
I just need to hug Mycroft. He has had to live with the knowledge that his sister killed a little boy, traumatized their brother, plotted to kill Sherlock (those drawings were the stuff of nightmares), burned down their home, and would have to be locked away for the rest of her life for everyone’s safety. And then, to spare his parents further pain in a logical, but misguided, way, he had to tell them she died. And he lived alone with the knowledge that she lived…and even existed.
He couldn’t kill the governor and threw up when he watched the man shoot himself.
Then he tried to make it easier for Sherlock to kill him over John, because he believed it was all his fault (a little bit true) and because without John, he knew Rosie would be an orphan and Sherlock would destroy himself over what he had done.
He cares. So much. And tries to hide it because he believes all that his heart has done has brought pain to him and his family.
Thought: Altean Lance AU where the first thing he sees is Hunk peering at the cryopods, trying to figure out what and who happens to be in them, while Pidge messes around with the controls (and not actually affecting much, because Allura’s not awake yet), Keith, still in his Marmoran armour (there’s no way he’d just been a rank and file Galran soldier), is watching with narrowed eyes and suddenly having a Bad Feeling, and Shiro is herding pilots like they’re cats.
Hunk and Lance actually hit it off right away. As Allura and Coran start waking up, Hunk’s telling Lance about how they found the Yellow Lion on Earth, and no, they’re Human, what’s an Altea - oh, yeah, and Keith’s with them, don’t worry about him-
Except, Allura, Lance and Coran do worry about Keith. Keith ends up pinned on the floor by an Allura who’s still reeling from the loss of her planet and people and this Galran is in breathing space of her BROTHER.
Shiro ends up being the one to calm everyone down. Because Hunk is now panicking and Pidge isn’t being helpful because she’s torn between not wanting things to deteriorate but also she doesn’t exactly like the fact that they’re working with a Galra, even if he says he’s on their side. Lance is staring at everyone, feeling sort of shaken up and betrayed because that’s a Galran oh quiznak that’s a Galran on the Castle and he hadn’t even noticed.
And then it turns out that Keith is, somehow, able to explain to the Alteans present that half the reason he’s here is that he has the Blue Lion. In his ship. Which is parked not far away, thank you.
Keith, who the others point out helped them in their firefight against the Galran cruiser while leaving Earth.
Allura deigns to accept - read: tolerate - Keith’s presence on the Castle, but she does continue to keep a close eye on him, and Lance starts. Poking at the guy. Because seriously, things are bad and all, but Lance just doesn’t have the negative energy to stay mad and angry like Allura does. Even though some of the things he says in what becomes known as their ‘rivalry’ can tend on the ‘oh, uh, that was a bit harsh’ side.
(Because in this version, if Lance isn’t on Earth, the Blue Lion doesn’t respond. Therefore to fix this gaping plot hole, Hunk ends up finding the Yellow Lion instead, through somewhat more complicated circumstances. The Blade of Marmora already knew where Blue was canonically, so here they still do, even if she’s not on Earth. And Keith, being the hot-head he is… probably took more action than most of them would have appreciated.
And for a rough idea as to what Keith’s ship here looks like:
That’s the size of Rolo and Nyma’s cargo/smuggling ship. I’d say Keith’s is a bit like that, given he’d want to appear unimportant to anyone just doing a general scan. And he probably didn’t plan ahead what he was going to do with it.
The ship stays in one of the Castle’s hangars, just because there’s no point wasting a good ship, even when all of Lance, Shiro, Pidge, Hunk and Keith still (never mind if Allura likes it or not) get a Lion.)
On November 9 1938 the Progrom Night led to Jews being harmed and murdered, synagogues being burned and homes and companies of Jews being broken into and being ruined and being robbed in Germany so today Germany remembers these events.
On November 9 1989 the Monday Demonstrations of East German citizens led to the Berlin wall falling down, uniting a country and a continent and 17 million East Germans were free, weren’t imprisoned anymore.
On November 9 2016 America elects a man who wants to build a wall and if you can’t imagine the reactions of Germans and former East Germans, I have serious doubts about your common knowledge and your history knowledge.
