Japanese Chips - February 2017

As I was in Japan earlier this month, this second February trip did not yield many interesting potato chip finds. The only two new flavors I came across on convenience store shelves last week both had Korean influences.

First up were the Lotteria Cheeseburger flavored chips…

These were intended to taste like the beef and two kinds of cheese that make up the Korean fast food chain’s popular burger, but were flat and flavorless.

I picked up this second bag at the Air Lawson in Haneda Airport and they tasted much better, Calbee’s “Kimchi Chige” chips…

Inspired by the traditional Korean spicy hot pot, these chips did a much better job of capturing the flavor of the original dish… albeit using potatoes as a base.

(Really quick headshot doodles, I got kind of lazy so I’ll probably redo more detailed

I did go ahead and give most of them hair because it’s more fun- but tried to make it so they all have shaved sides, hope it’s not too hard to tell who’s who!)
