Bunny Bennett mimes with a plastic cup at Anime Midwest 2017
I was in Chicago earlier this month and spent a few hours at Anime Midwest. I stuck my head in the Be Your Own Bot panel just to see the band IRL. Obviously Sam has changed a lot while David looks exactly the same, but I was really amazed by Bunny.
I saw SPG live for the first time at Anime Midwest four years ago (heck). I was two weeks post-top surgery and remember nervously mumbling something to Bunny at the tail end of the autograph line. Bunny was one of the few out trans people I knew of back then and she was prominent in my mind for several years, but lately I haven’t kept up with the band.
So it really warmed my cockles to see her on that stage, miming animatedly in the tiniest shorts ever invented, with a big beaming smile that lit the room. It made me remember how withdrawn and unhappy I was four (and ten, and fifteen) years ago. I’m not bouncing off the walls all the time now, but life feels natural and good.
I also wear very short shorts, but that might be a global warming thing.
I can’t stop freaking out over the results of my latest Rabbit photoshoot at Anime Boston!! This photo is probably my favorite photo of me in cosplay ever taken! If you’re looking for a fantastic photographer in the New England area I cannot recommend Grace enough!
Cosplayer: CiaoBirdie Cosplay (Me)
Photographer: Derpy Mermaid Cosplay and Photography
I’ve edited this photo more times than I can count. Tried my photoshop skills out a bit by adding in the background (it’s like….an abandoned factory that looked fitting).
Honestly this is probably one of my favorite photos of my Red Core Rabbit cosplay even though it’s literally just a selfie I took on my iPhone in the middle of my living room.
Also, I’m wearing Rabbit again and doing another photoshoot on the Saturday of Anime Boston!! I’m like…the eternal AB Rabbit cosplayer because this will be my 3rd year in a row wearing her. 2015 was Version 1 Rabbit with the eared headpiece and then last year’s debuted Version 2 Red Core Rabbit.
You’ll find the answer here. I assume if there was a consistent way to keep makeup out of your eyes, these folks would know it by now…
Sorry about the quality… my sad little camera did its best. And pardon my self-indulgent filming of Michael Reed… I had begun to work out that he was just providing supporting music this time and just wanted him on video somewhere. Still waiting for a Michael Reed concert… fingers crossed.
This is one of the best… things that this is… they’ve done yet.
