Just like buses you wait all year for one Shetland stars birthday, and two come along at once.Happy 49th Birthday Mark Bonnar.
There’s nothing much online about his early life, but I found a great line that fits right into his Scottishness!! “his voice as smooth and warm as a slug of Glenkinchie single malt, matured not too far from his teenage years home in Tranent” So there ye go, he’s at least partly a Lothain guy!
Looking at his acting credits which of course includes Taggart, as well as Rebus,The Bill, Line of Duty and Psychoville, he’s done a lot of crime in his time.
Some of you might know Bonnar as Bruno Jenkins as a nurse in the BBC medical drama Casualty, any gamers will recognise him as Edward “Blackbeard” Thatch in Assassins Creed IV Black Flag. If you like your comedy Mark Bonnar is in the brilliant Channel 4 show Catastrophe as Chris, or over on the Beeb he is Officer Meekie in the Porridge reboot.
His career only seems to have taken off since Casualty, but he is hardly off our screens nowadays, Apple Tree Yard, Unforgotten and Unforgotten have all been successful in the past two years. As well as all that he still has time to do the voices Twigs and Box in the CBeebies series Tree Fu Tom.
He has been married to Lucy Gaskell since December 28, 2007, he became a father for 1st time, at age 42, his wife gave birth to their daughter, Martha, in July 2011. It seems life begins at 40 is true with Mark!
The pic is of Mark, alongside the fellow Scot, the Bonnie Ashley Jensen who plays his partner Fran, in the aforementioned Catastrophe.
