Please ignore any spelling errors!
Pairing: Pietro (AoU) X Reader
Prompt: I am in love with ur blog! Can I request where reader is recruited as an avenger after pietro’s death but see his picture and constantly asks questions and falls for him which leads to the avengers reviving him for reader? It’s kind of crazy sorry
((^^^ I am adding a few things just for the sake of making my life a little easier XD (sorry) *************The reader has the ability to heal, yet her power is still unstable and she is not yet able to fully control it.))
Warning: There are mentions of death, intense pain, blood, dead bodies (I am not sure if those are actual triggers, but I figured that I would throw them in there just in case)
You leafed through the stack of photos that Wanda had handed you, and you noticed that her crimson eyes were fighting off tears. You nudged her and pointed to the photo in your hands.
“Is this you? And your brother?”
She sighed and nodded, taking the photo in her hands and running her index finger lightly over her brother’s face. A mop of brown hair was flopped over his youthful face and Wanda stood next to him with her arms around him. You could tell that it was long before she had undergone the experiments, everything about the twins looked normal and very much human.
She flopped back and rested her head on her bed pillows. You two would do this often; she would talk to you about her past and you would do the same to her. You found that she didn’t confide in many people other than you, so you were always honored to listen.
“This was our sixth birthday.” She said with a small, sad grin.
You nodded and laid down next to her, staring at another, much more recent, photo of her brother. He had wavy white hair and a large, bright smile.
He must have been such a nice, kind, caring person. And, judging from every story you heard from the Avengers, that was exactly correct. According to them he would do anything for his sister and for the team. He did, after all, die by saving Clint and a little boy. You couldn’t get any braver than that.
You wished more than anything that you could have met him before the battle with Ultron. Maybe, had you been there, you would have been able to save him once he was shot. Still, the answer was uncertain. You have the ability to heal people, which is why the Avengers recruited you, but your powers were still very much underdeveloped. Sometimes, if you concentrated really, really hard you could patch up a cut. But bullet holes? The chances were very slim.
You knew that it did little good for you to daydream on what could have happened, because it never would. You would walk through life knowing that you would never get the chance to meet Pietro Maximoff. And, in a lot of ways, you felt as though you were trying to replace him. Every time someone would talk about how much they missed him, you felt like you were intruding and that you were just some patch-up job the team had put together to try to fill the void he left when he died.
“He would have liked you, Y/N.” Wanda murmured as she shifted to another stack of worn photos. “Both of your personalities would have just clicked, I can tell.”
You looked at her in surprise, not sure whether you would be feeling happy or sad about that. “Really?”
She nodded at you and smiled. “Just like how I grew to like you, he would have loved to join in on our girl talks in my room.”
You laughed a little as you imagined the two of your joined by the masculine Avengers, all laughing and telling stories together. Your heart warmed to the image.
You had been recruited exactly two weeks after Pietro’s death and you joined in with the training that Vision, the Falcon, Scarlet Witch, and the others had gone through. It was intense, for sure, but you still managed to survive it. Steve would try to go easy on you, but Nat saw that you didn’t want to be treated as less than the others, so she pushed you just as hard.
You were partly grateful for that, but sometimes it got to be too much. There were several times where you contemplated leaving, even packing your bags once or twice, but Wanda (who always sensed your distress) would convince you to stick around, and that is where your friendship had started.
About a month passed before you realized that you were hopelessly in love with her brother. Which, of course, was absolutely ridiculous considering that you would never be with him. But still, every story, photo, and comment that you heard about him made your heart flutter. He sounded like such a genuine and honorable man, someone that you would respect highly as a teammate and a friend.
Both you and Wanda were sitting on the couch, munching on a bowl of Doritos with Steve, when Bruce and Tony came into the common room with serious faces. You knew something big was about to happen with they shut off the TV and ushered all of the other teammates inside.
“I have some…um, rather important things I would like to discuss with you all today.” Tony said, sucking in a big breath and knotting his hands together in front of him.
Steve cocked up an eyebrow and sat back, “What is it?”
“Well, we have been doing a little research.” Bruce said hesitantly. “Nothing harmful, just a mild curiosity. And we found something…well, encouraging.”
“I’m just going to cut to the chase.” Tony said, the pointed to you. “We found that your healing abilities are actually rather strong, however they are so limited right now because of a series of mental blocks that you have set up in your mind. So, if Wanda broke down those blocks with her powers, Y/N might be able to start up some organs, get the blood flowing again, patch up some old wounds…”
The team all looked at him in confusion. Tony sighed at looked at you and Wanda carefully. “We think that Y/N may be able to revive Pietro.”
Your eyes widened and your heart skipped. What?
“What?” Wanda jumped up from the couch, her eyes blazing a fiery red. “You better not be screwing with me, Stark!”
Bruce held up peaceful hands. “We would not have told you if we didn’t think it was worth trying. We think that there is a good chance it would work.”
You held out a shaky hand and touched Wanda’s elbow, instantly creating a calming effect.
“Why…what made you even think to see if Y/N could heal him?” Clint asked, clearly shaken.
“Well, we have noticed that she seems to be taking a strong interest in him, which then led us to wonder if she was strong enough to bring him back.” Tony said. “And we think she is.”
“Are you kidding me? I don’t even think I am!” You said as you tried to ignore your panic.
“Just try.” Bruce asked—more like pleaded with you. “After all these hours of research and tests, I really do think that it would work.”
You looked in Wanda’s eyes to see what she if she wanted to do it, and she slowly nodded.
We have to try, She whispered in your mind. You heard the pain in her message, yet you also heard a glimmer of hope. You just prayed that she wasn’t going to be let down.
Everyone was breathing heavily as Bruce wheeled out the metal table, a body was laying on it with a white sheet over it. Wanda, Bruce, Tony, and you were all surrounding the body, and the rest of the team was waiting out side of the door.
Wanda tried really hard to hold her tears in, but when Bruce uncovered her brother’s face she began to weep. He looked pale and very much dead, but other than that he seemed held together and in good shape. You could see the old bullet wounds dotted across his bare chest.
Bruce pulled the sheet down just past his stomach so it still covered his lower area, “He’s been in a freezer this whole time, so he’s still….you know, together.”
You wrapped your arms around Wanda’s shoulders and held her comfortingly, lending any strength you could to her.
She nodded a few times, told herself it was okay, and pulled away from you. “Let’s begin. I don’t want to wait any longer.”
Tony pulled you over to his body, and you tried to push down the bile that rose in your throat. Wanda came up next to you.
“Okay, so first you should begin to patch up the bullet wounds and–” Tony held up a hand to you once you began to protest. “I know that you can’t fix bullet holes, yet. You can at least work on it while Wanda goes into your mind and breaks apart the barriers, which in turn will allow you to be able to more efficiently heal him. I will give you more instructions as the process goes along, understand?”
With a shaky lip, you muttered, “Understood.”
Tony camped his hand on your shoulder and and gave it a small squeeze before backing up and gesturing for you to begin.
You traced your fingers above his cold skin and cringed, then began to channel your energy into the wounds. At the same time, Wanda placed the tips of her fingers onto your head and entered your mind, quickly scanning it for the blocks Tony had been speaking of.
“Found them.” Wanda whispered, more to herself then anything, then shot them down.
You didn’t feel pain at first, only a jolt of energy that you didn’t know you had every time she broke one. You would immediately channel that newfound energy to Pietro, and finally you could see his wounds begin to close.
Once they were closed, you heard Tony say, “Now, focus on getting his blood flowing again.”
You did just that, but every burst of energy you got from Wanda began to sting your fingers were you were channeling them. Your skin began to burn, almost like you were on fire. Still, you could feel that it was working so you soldiered on.
The blood began to return to his cheeks and you could see his pale skin begin to regain its color.
Step after step came from Tony, and you could tell that they had spent a great deal of time carefully planning how they were going to do this.
You shouted out in pain, but you didn’t break the flow of energy.
Wanda pulled away from you, breathlessly muttering, “There is no more barriers, she is at one hundred percent right now.”
So, you were at your full capability. Now it was truly the time to see if you were strong enough to do this or not. It was all on you.
“Y/N.” Tony said when you began to scream again. Though, you barley heard him. Your blood was pumping in your ears and your mind had too many thoughts bouncing around in it, it was a wonder Wanda could find anything in there.
“Y/N, stop. You are going to hurt yourself.” Bruce said sternly, more serious then you have ever heard him before.
And, that was when you had to make the hardest choice of your life. You knew that a life for a life did very little good, but you also knew that Pietro was so missed and loved amongst the Avengers that he really deserved to be with them more than you did. He was a hero who could save so many more people if he was alive, whereas you could barley fix up a scrapped knee on a good day.
It was a hard choice but you knew that you made the right one. You were going to risk it all for a man that you have never met, but knew everything about.
With one final cry you blasted as much energy into him as you possibly could, and right away you heard his heart jump alive.
You barley got a glance of his bright blue eyes flicking open before blackness consumed you and you fell.
