Brown Recluse Zine Distro Fundraiser! PLZ Signal Boost!

Brown Recluse Zine Distro is seeking support for a few reasons. We have also added some really awesome incentives for donating! Check em out! Any questions feel free to ask!!!

The first goal is to continue to buy and print zines to keep the
distro well stocked and affordable. BRZD wants to remain an affordable
and accessible project to everyone.

The second goal is to make a  paper catalog available for free to
increase accessibility to folks who do not have access to the
internet.

The third goal is to make the entire catalog available to prisoners for free.

The fourth goal is to be able to help folks set up zine libraries in
communities that serve People of Color. This means sending one copy of
every zine in the catalog to existing zine libraries or those starting
zine libraries nationally and internationally.

All funds garnered from this crowd-funding campaign will be applied
directly to meeting these goals. For updates on new additions to the
distro follow us on Tumblr, Facebook, or check out the website!

Thanks for the support! BRZD

Help Brown Recluse distribute this zine for FREE!

Folks harm reduction is super important to me. I have friends and family living with and struggling with and surviving addiction. I have watched people overdose and die because folks just didn’t know what to do. I am in the process of getting funds together to pass these out for free with every on-line and in person order. This is a short and accessible guide for preventing overdose put together by Mission Mini-Comix. Donate and help BRZD distribute “Lil’ Dope Fiend: Overdose Prevention Guide!”

Portland Zine Symposium and Updates!

Portland Zine Symposium was a blast. I tabled with Ari ( La Bola de Cristal and Maximum Rock and Roll) my partner in crime and the lovely Anna Vo (Fix My Head, The Swan &the Vulture). I got to spend time getting to know my favorit zine writers and distro owners and made a bunch of new friends! Two days of zines and amazing people! I am so full of inspiration and motivation.

An unfortunate side effect of the PDX Zine Symposium is that a lot of zines are out of stock. Over the next week I will busy at re-stocking the distro with the usual and fresh zines! I will also be updating the site with links to rad projects and friends of the distro as well as an FAQ. If there are any questions you would like answered or a link that you think that I should include feel free to send em via email.

New to Brown Recluse Zine Distro! More to Come!

Here are a few new additions to Brown Recluse Zine Distro. Megan, BRZD’s intern, and I spent the evening practicing our possum faces, talking about astrology and compatibility, listening to doom metal, MIA and Kanye drinking tea and reading zines and writing descriptions. We are still reading a huge stack of zines to post for the distro and we still have a stack of zines up for consideration! Nia King and Anna Vo are #raceriottour members! And some of the most inspirational people I have ever met. We’ll keep you updated!

Art School is Hell: $3.00 Shipping $0.66

This zine reflects on the frustrations of attempting to create art as a POC in white-dominated communities and schools. Edited by Nia King, “Art School is Hell” contains several contributions from artists of color, including poems, short pieces, and illustrations. As an artist of color, this zine validated the difficulties and loneliness I have faced within art communities.

Fix My Head #3: $5.00 Shipping $ 1.72
I met the amazing Anna Vo on #raceriottour and fell in love with her and her zines. FMH #3 is a an interview based punk zine with a few other essays about racism, sexism and other articles related to anti-oppression work. This zine focuses on Rad Punx of Color and their thoughts and opinions pertaining to race and the punk zine. I found the interviews to be profoundly inspiring and validating. Knowing that there are other Punx of Color working towards a more diverse and supportive scene. Interviews with: Cristy C. Road, Osa Atoe, Kaila Stone, Mariam Bastani, Mimi Thi Nguyen, Atiah, Daniela Capistrano, Steph Phan, Chris Zizzamia and Stono Caves.

Fix My Head #4: $5.00 Shipping $1.06
Fix My Head delivers another moving interview zine! Co-edited with Osa Atoe of Shotgun Seamstress FMH creates a space for Punx of Color to have discourse about Punx of Color histories, cultures and scenes internationally. This zine uncovers all that has been buried about Punx of Color histories and scenes. My favorite interview is with Taquila Mockingbird where she discusses the early days of punk in L.A. This zine is packed with interviews and more essays making it a punk rock dream come true. Interviews with: Taquila Mockingbird, Golnar Nikpour, Mars/Aye Nako, Melying Pot Massacre, Daighila and so many more!

The Swan The Vulture #4: $3.00 Shipping $0.66
The Swan The Vulture is written by the talented Anna Vo. This personal zine focuses a lot on self-care as a survivor of abuse. Anna Vo honestly discusses learning to assert her boundaries, sexual abuse that she has endured, effective communication skills, empowerment workshops she has facilitated, race, gentrification and so much more. Anna Vo’s unique perspectives and on-point critiques truly shifted my perspectives on how I interact with people in my community. TSTV is full of authentic self reflection and powerful writing. A definite recommend! (Trigger Warning) Like Us: facebook.com/brownreclusezinedistro

Updates and New Zines to BRZD!

BRZD is on Hiatus until the distro and I return from the Rough Cut event put on by University of Illinois Chicago and Chicago Zine Fest! LAZF re-energized and inspired me around zines, writing and pumping new blood into BRZD! I learned a lot about tabling for the first time at a zine fest.

BRZD is adding a ton of new titles to the distro upon returning from CZF! Expect the following (not all pictured): The Spitboy Rule: Tales of a Female Punk Band by Michelle Gonzalez, Fix My Head #2 and #6 written by Anna Vo, Musings of a Jook-sing written by Diana Mai, Mad Mulatta by Brittany Couch, Trust the Knife by Joyce Hatton, Rise-Fall-and Repeat by Isidro de la Luna Fox, Profane and The Body is a Wild Wild Thing by Tomas Moniz, AND Shotgun Seamstress 1-6.5! And who knows what I’ll return with from CZF! Do you have a zine you want to submit for consideration?

All of this was made possible by donations, orders and folks who bought zines from BRZD at LAZF. When you buy from this distro you are not only supporting this project you are supporting POC writers and artists too, making our stories and our histories more accessible to one another! Thanks for the support: PAST, PRESENT and FUTURE!

Love, BRZD

Postcard from Alvar Library in New Orleans, LA. We were able to donate one of each zine we carry to help them start their zine library! They sent a picture and wrote us a sweet note! Your donations made this possible. We are always in need of donations to help us reach out goals. We are luckily able to sustain out current stock but have quite a few zines waiting in the wings to be picked up. We are also trying to print zines for the Portland Zine Symposium. If you got a few bucks to spare throw some at BRZD if not give this post a signal boost! Thanks for the support and love.
