WORTH THE HYPE: L'Oreal Brow Artist Plumper

Before tinted brow gels were a thing, I wasn’t really big on brow gels but  now they are an essential product in my makeup routine. I’m a big fan of tinted brow gels but until recently they had mainly been a high end luxury and not many were available on a drugstore level. Whilst I wasn’t a fan of the Maybelline Brow Drama Gel I can say with great faith that the L'Oreal Brow Artist Plumper is one of my all-time favourite brow gels. Much like high end brands this brow gel has tiny little fibers in it that cling to your brow hairs to help them look thicker and more voluminous but the formula is so light and gel like that your brows don’t look or feel crispy. The applicator is the perfect size for grooming your brows and isn’t too big or too small. All in all this is one of the best brow gels I’ve tried, it contains the perfect amount of colour so your brows don’t look over the top, enough hold so your brows stay in place and just the right amount of fibers so your brows look thick but natural at the same time.

Hello! :) what are some good beginner brow products? Which brand should I look out for? Any cheap alternatives?

Hi there!

For beginners i’d recommend going for a brow powder or a waxy brow pencil. Powders and waxy brow pencils give a more natural, soft brow rather than super creamy pencils and products that can come off more harsh. Nothing wrong with more intense brows but as a beginner it’s a little more difficult to get right :)

Tips for beginners

  • Go a shade or two lighter. When choosing a brow color go for a shade or two lighter than your hair/brow color. This will look more soft and natural and be a lot less easy to mess up.
  • Use a light hand. Apply little product and slowly add more until you reach your desired look.
  • Keep the front of the brow a little more sparse and light. Naturally the front of our brow isn’t as thick and filled in as the rest of our brow so keeping that area more sparse and natural will keep the brows from looking too “drawn on”. Also avoids the square brow mistake a lot of beginners tend to make!

Try products like

ELF Brow Powder $3. Comes with a mini brush and a gel to set your brows or use a lightly tinted color!

Maybelline Master Shape Brow Pencil $7. This is a waxy pencil rather than a really creamy and pigmented pencil which will give you a more sheer, natural color. Very easy to use!
