St. Patrick’s Day with the Lynch Brothers

Declan decides to reinstate the Lynch family tradition of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day

o   Growing up this was Niall Lynch’s favorite holiday and the family went all out

o   Imagine young Ronan, Declan, and Matthew performing at local festivals

o   Kilts may or may not have been involved

o   Church was a must

Ronan takes Opal and Matthew up to Declan’s apartment in D.C.

o   They are so LOUD in the car

o   They fight and sing stupid songs and play car games

o   Ronan yells at them but he secretly loves it

Adam drives up from college. He’s never celebrated St. Patrick’s Day and he’s nervous/excited about the family reunion. Declan is intimidating af

o   But Declan’s totally cool and gives up his room for the “newlyweds” as he likes to call Ronan and Adam pretty much every chance he gets

o   Matthew and Opal camp out in the living room

o   Declan shares the guest room with his “housemate” (who turns out to be JIANG!! Ronan is shocked and keeps muttering to Adam about the “fucking plot twist”)

Family hijinks ensue

o   Seriously competitive Apples to Apples

o   Candy Land with Opal

o   A very late night game of poker after Opal goes to bed

o   Ronan and Declan are definitely pre-gaming; Adam and Jiang exchange mutual looks of resignation

St. Patrick’s Day arrives!!

o   Declan’s got this all planned out. First he gets them all to mass. Almost everyone sleeps through the majority of the service. Declan is very Annoyed

o   Irish Breakfast with Irish Breakfast Tea because ofc

o   Wardrobe: y’all know they were kitted out in all the green. Blue sent Ronan T-shirts for him and Adam to wear: Ronan’s says “Kiss Me I’m an Asshole” and Adam’s says “Pynch: Est. 2016”, both are in green, Ronan’s is a muscle tee; Adam is confused by his shirt. Declan further surprises everyone by wearing one of Niall’s kilts. Jiang says he looks very handsome and Declan Blushes so bad. Matthew is wearing green everything: pants, shirt, shoes, he even sprays temporary green color in his hair. Opal is wearing a super cute dress with an Irish flag pattern. Jiang is looking quite dapper with a white button-up and a green tie.

Next stop: the Parade. They stand outside forever and it’s cold so they’re just this huddle. Adam thoughtfully brought thermos of tea for them to share. Ronan brought a flask. Matthew brought pickle flavored Pringles. They are Good to Go

o   Somehow they get to the very front of the barricades lining the parade route. Ronan puts Opal on his shoulders anyways and she is delighted, having the time of her life. Adam takes a million pictures and sends them to Blue, Henry, and Gansey

Afterwards they go to one of the local Irish pubs and it is madness. They wait almost two hours for a table. Opal falls asleep on Ronan’s shoulder. Ronan’s flask is mysteriously not empty and he confesses that it’s a dream object and never runs dry. While they wait the boys tell Adam and Jiang about Niall and Aurora, about growing up at the Barns and some of the crazy legends their father would tell them about Ireland

The pub is well worth the wait. Everyone gets a different dish and they all end of sharing. Declan works some magic and gets them pitchers of Guinness (Matthew is not allowed to drink and he’s quite sulky about it)

There is live music and, after drinking a lot, Ronan gets it into his mind that he should join the group and play everyone a song?!!! Adam is dying of laughter and of course films the whole thing. Even sloshed Ronan is an impeccable musician and everyone wants him to keep playing so he does

Perhaps the most hilarious/unexpected moment is when Ronan and Declan join in the impromptu Riverdance dance off. Matthew can’t believe that these two drunken idiots are related to him. Jiang is deceased because Declan dancing in that kilt… Adam’s phone is running out of storage because Jesus Christ this has to be saved for posterity

Eventually they stagger back to the apartment. Ronan and Declan are singing The Rocky Road to Dublin at the top of their lungs the entire way; they keep making the song faster and faster until it’s just a bunch of loud, high-pitched slurring

Jiang helps Declan to bed, Adam gets Opal settled in for the night, Ronan finds his father’s guitar in Declan’s room and plays mournful Irish tunes until Adam makes him stop. Once they’re cuddled up in bed Ronan tells Adam more about Niall. They make plans to visit his hometown in Ireland

The next morning is Hangover Central but they all agree it was worth it

Sorry it’s so short, I just kinda wanted to get how the brothers were feeling in there. The next part will be coming soon!

Y/N bit her lip and look back and forth between the two men. As mad as Y/N was, and boy, did she have some problems with the Winchesters, they were her brothers and she was curious. Part of her wanted to give them a shot and the other part told her to run screaming as fast as she could. Y/N didn’t trust them, but maybe they deserved a second chance, “Fine, but only a trial basis.”

Identical grins broke out on her brother’s faces. This was going to be interesting.

It had been almost a week since Y/N had moved into the bunker. She wasn’t really sure what possessed her to do it. She didn’t fully trust Sam and Dean and she sure as hell hadn’t forgiven them for everything; there was still a lot they hadn’t even talked about. It was a little awkward, living with two complete strangers, but Y/N hadn’t come to regret her decision yet.

The stability was nice and as much as she tried to act like she was fine with being on the road by herself, the truth of the matter was it could get lonely. Not to mention back up on a hunt was always a good thing.

The situation was weird for Sam and Dean too. They were happy to have their sister at the bunker; they would take all the family they could get; but they knew that she hadn’t fully forgiven them. They were having a little trouble getting her to open up to them, because she didn’t trust them yet.

The brothers were sitting in the kitchen enjoying breakfast; Y/N was still in bed. Dean placed his coffee mug down on the table and look across at Sam who was surfing the internet. “I’m still not sure this was our best idea.”

While Sam was confident that inviting Y/N to live with them was a great idea, Dean was a bit more hesitant. Dean wanted her as far away from hunting as possible, definitely not in the thick of it with them. But as Sam had pointed out she was going to hunt; they really couldn’t stop her. At least this way they could keep her safe.

Sam sighed, barely looking up from his computer, “C’mon Dean, we’ve been over this. It’s a little awkward sure, but what’s the worst that can really happen here?”

“She clearly doesn’t want to be here.”

“It’s a hard situation. We totally ignored her existence for three years, we are not her favorite people. It’s just going to take some getting used to, for everyone. Dean, we just need to give her time, okay? We need to earn her trust.”

Dean sighed and ran a hand down his face, “It’s just hard, I don’t know what to say or do.”

Sam gave his brother a weak smile, he tried to sound confident, but truthfully they’d made very little progress with their sister over the past week and it was starting to get disheartening.

“Well, we’ll just have to keep working at it. She’ll come around eventually.”

Sam and Dean stood there with their mouths hanging open. No, there was no way the young women standing in front of them could be Y/N. She’d been off at school when the ghouls had gotten Adam and their mom, hence why she was still alive; so how had she become a hunter?

“Well, I’d say it was nice to finally meet you, but that would be lie.” Y/N gave a small nod and started to head back up the hill toward the road.

“Wait!” Sam sprinted forward and grabbed her arm, stopping her in place. Sam turned her back around to face himself and Dean. “You can’t just walk off.”

Y/N gave him a confused look, “Why not?”

“Why not?” Dean asked. This kid wasn’t serious was she? “Because you just announced that you’re our sister. You don’t think we were just going to let you skip off now did you? Especially if you’re hunting.”

Y/N huffed and then paused seeing the serious expressions they both had, “Wait, you’re not serious, are you? Really? You’ve know about me for years and haven’t cared before.”

Sam and Dean shared looks. Sam released her arm and shifted nervously from foot to foot. “Listen, Y/N, I know how it probably seems to you-”

“Oh really?” Y/N laughed. She angrily crossed her arms.  “I came home from school because apparently both my brother and mother had been missing for some time. Then I learn that not only are they dead, and killed by monsters, but so was my father. Then on top of that I learn I have two other brothers, that knew about all of this and not only didn’t care to track me down, they couldn’t even spare a minute to fill me in. But yes, I’m sure I’m not seeing it right.”

Dean grimaced, they hadn’t been trying to hurt her. They wanted to protect her and people around them seemed to have an especially short life span. Neither of them wanted that for her. Sam tried again, “Y/N, I imagine that was a lot to handle and I’m sorry, you had to handle it all by yourself. Look we can explain our side of the story and we definitely have some questions for you, but right now we’re surrounded by a bunch of headless bodies and morning is just around the corner. Why don’t we clean this up and go somewhere to talk?”

“Why should I go anywhere with you?”

“Because if we stay here we’re likely to get arrested for manslaughter.” Dean snarked. Sam shout him the bitch face; could Dean have worst timing?

“You should come with us because we genuinely want to talk to you. We could have just let you run off when you wanted to, but we didn’t.” Y/N paused; clearly very apprehensive about going with them.

“Fine, but you get to do the cleaning. I’ll meet you at the bar down on third street.” With that she turned and headed back up to the road.

“We’ll be there.”

Dean looked at Sam like he was crazy, “Dude, you don’t think she’s actually going to show do you? She’s going to run.”

Sam shook his head, “I don’t think so man. At the very least she has a lot she wants to tell us off for. I think that’ll be enough to get her to actually show, and who knows, she might even be interested in what we have to say.”

When the brothers arrived at the bar an hour later Dean still wasn’t convinced they were going to find their sister inside. Y/N had been more than eager to get away from the two of them, not that he blamed her; so the thought that she would come back to hear them out seemed like a long shot. Sam on the other hand was convinced that she would be waiting there for them. Dean just hoped his brother wasn’t wrong.

They entered the building and immediately noticed Y/N at the bar, throwing a shoot back. The pair headed over towards her. Y/N noticed them coming and turned back to the bartender.

“Three beers.” She fluttered her eyelashes at him and he smirked, raking his eyes up her body before placing the three drinks in front of her. Dean felt his blood boil as the bartender obviously checked Y/N out; he’d only known her an hour and he already felt protective over her. Y/N winked at the older man, “Thanks.”

“No problem sweetheart,” he leaned closer to her, bracing himself against the bar and Sam coughed, altering them to the Winchester’s presence. The bartender straightened up again, and moved back down the bar.

Y/N grabbed the beers and stood up, moving toward one of the booths in the corner. Before he could stop himself Dean he was asking, “Are you even old enough to be drinking?”

She winked at him, “According to my federal agent badge I’m 27. Also, I got us free drinks. You’re welcome”

“I’d rather pay for them then have the bartender undressing you in his mind.”

Y/N rolled her eyes and slid into the booth. Sam and Dean sat down on the bench opposite her. The siblings sat in an awkward silence for a few minutes, sipping at their drinks, unsure of who should go first. Sam decided to get it over with and ask a question.

“How did you start hunting? How did you even find out about hunting? Adam didn’t have a clue until, well, you know.” Y/N looked down at the mention of her brother, picking at the label on her beer.

“There was a werewolf in town. Hunters came around asking questions. One of them recognized Dad from a picture I had up in the house. They then accidentally filled me in on the truth; they assumed that if I was John Winchester’s daughter I knew about monsters. They also told me about both of you, what happened to Adam and how you two idiots almost ended the world, the first time. You guys seemed to have done that quite a few times, huh?”

“You know about that?” Sam asked, slightly embarrassed.

“Yeah, I know about all of it. You guys are kind of hunting legends. Hunters talk about you all the time and if they’re not, all you have to do is ask. They have no problem educating others on all the good- and bad you guys have done.”

“That must have been a lot to process,” Sam smiled at her sympathetically.

“As I got more and more into hunting I learned more. The hardest part was accepting what happened to my mom and Adam.” Y/N smiled down sadly at her beer, bringing it back up to her lips again.

Sam felt bad for her. Sure, Dean and him had had a hard life, but at least they had each other, Y/N was left all alone. All her family, except for him and Dean was dead. Sam knew how that felt. It was how he felt when Dean died and especially when Dean went to Purgatory. A part of him blamed himself and Dean. How would things have worked out if they had gone to her after he got freed from the cage, or even after they found out the ghouls had killed the rest of her family? She had become a hunter anyway, even though they had kept their distance to avoid that.

“We’re sorry about it. About all of it, and I’m sorry if us staying away made that worse in any way. We were trying to keep you safe, just like Dad was before us. Hunting is dangerous. That’s why he never told you what he did and that’s why we stayed away. The ghouls were handled and we thought you were safe; that you were away from it all.”

Y/N scoffed, “I was alone. The only family I had ever known was all dead. Doesn’t seem like it was best for me.”

Dean leaned forward across the table toward her, “Kid, being close to Sam and I… well life doesn’t turn out so great for the people we care about. Their either all dead or they’ve suffered through a lot of pain because of us. We wanted to save you from that. Trust me, we did what we thought was best. It wasn’t because we didn’t love you or want to meet you; it was just the opposite. We wanted to keep you safe and the best way to do that is for you to be as far away from hunting and us as possible.”

“I think what Dean is trying to say is that at the time it was the only thing we knew to do. Dad had so perfectly managed to keep you and Adam from the life before we hoped maybe we could keep you from it by staying away.” Sam continued. He looked over at Dean who just nodded. “But now that you’re in the life, now that we’ve meet you, well we’d like to continue to get to know you. Why don’t you come with us? We can hunt together, we even have a house, of sorts, you can have your own room and everything.”

Y/N sat there with a shocked look on her face. She’d meet her brothers maybe two hours ago tops and now they were inviting her to move in with them? “You want me to move in with you and hunt with you?”

“Well you’re sure as hell not hunting by yourself anymore.” Dean exclaimed and Sam stepped on his foot under the table.

Y/N raised her eyebrows at Dean, “Excuse me? I don’t need your blessing, thanks though.”

Sam quickly jumped in, trying to smooth over the rising tension, “I think what Dean meant is that hunting can be dangerous, and while you’ve proved yourself more than capable I think we’d both feel more comfortable if you’d didn’t hunt along. And preferably with us. Not to mention having you live at the bunker with us gives us all a great opportunity to get to know each other better.”

“So what do you say?” Dean grinned at her.

Y/N swung the demon blade through the air, swiping the demon standing in front of her. She ducked as he lunged toward her and then jammed the knife up through his rib cage. The demon crumpled, dead, on the floor. Y/N straightened up and looked around. The other three demons lay dead on the ground. She headed over towards her brothers, Dean checked over his younger siblings, “Everybody okay?”

Before they had the chance to respond, a new, heavily accented voice called across the warehouse, “Did you really need to take out Anna? She was one of my best.” The siblings stood on defense against the Scotsman. “Well, well, if it isn’t the littlest Winchester. Reunited with big brothers at last.”

Y/N narrowed her eyes at him, “Crowley. For the last time, it isn’t Winchester, it’s Milligan.”

Sam and Dean shared confused looks, Y/N and Crowley had meet before? When and where had she run into him?  Either way, the brothers were not too happy with Crowley being around their sister. Dean stepped forward toward Crowley, “Have you two meet before?”

Y/N shifted uncomfortably, “Yes, we’ve run into each other before on a few hunts.”

“More like hunting for me.” Crowley mumbled under his breath.

“What was that?” Sam asked. The brothers knew there was something Y/N wasn’t telling them. Of course the brothers didn’t know everything about Y/N, Sam was aware of that, but Y/N’s mysterious past with Crowley was making him uneasy.

Y/N threw Crowley the signature Winchester bitch face, “You’d think as the King of Hell he’d be more well connected, but he’s kind of useless. Why have you guys even left him alive this long?”

Crowley made a face at the young woman and leaned closer to her. Dean and Sam instantly moved forward, trying to step between the two, but Crowley bent closer to her and said, “Now now, no need to be rude. It’s not my fault, we both know nobody can help you with what you want.”

“What does that mean?” Sam asked, looking back and forth between his sister and the King of Hell. Crowley winked at Y/N and disappeared. Before Y/N could even suck in a breath, Dean and Sam turned on her, questions pouring out of their mouths.

“What was that about?”

“How did you meet Crowley again?”

“What did he mean by you hunting him?”

“Yeah and what was that about nobody being able to help you?”

“Help you with what?”

“What exactly are you trying to do?”

Y/N took a deep breath and sheathed the demon blade, “It was nothing, it’s all nothing. Don’t worry about it.”

“Don’t worry about it?” Dean gave her an incredulous look. “Seriously? Our little sister has some obvious beef with the King of Hell and you want us to just not worry about it? Are you kidding me?”

“Yeah, Crowley’s nothing I can’t handle. I’m perfectly capable of taking care of myself, I’m not some little girl.” Sam sighed, rubbing a hand down his face, this was a common fight between Dean and Y/N. He’d say something about her being their little sister, or him looking out for her and she’d automatically bite back that she could take care of herself; it would just escalate from there.

Sam stepped in before it got bad, “We’re not saying you can’t, but the point is you don’t have to worry about Crowley on your own anymore. You’ve got us now and we know from past experience how much of a headache he can be. We just want to know that you’re safe. Dean didn’t mean to imply that you couldn’t look out for yourself.”

“That’s kind of you Sam, but really it’s nothing. Seriously. Let’s just get out of here okay?” The brothers knew that there was more she wasn’t telling them, but decided to wait till they got back to push for more information.

The boys didn’t try again until they were settled back in the bunker the next day. The siblings were seated in the library, researching and enjoying burgers. Sam and Dean exchanged looks over the books they were hiding behind, each trying to get the other one to ask.

Finally, Dean cleared his throat, but Y/N continued to read, obvious to his attempt to get her attention. When she didn’t look up Dean tried again, louder this time. Y/N raised an eyebrow at him, “Yes?”

Dean looked nervously at Sam, who nodded at him, “Well, we wanted to talk about the run in with Crowley yesterday.” Y/N slouched back in her seat, crossing her arms over her chest and the Dean braced himself before continuing, “I know you said you it was nothing and we know you can take care of yourself, but we are still worried. What exactly were you all tied up in with Crowley? What did you go to him for help about?”

“Guys, there is nothing to worry about. It was all in the past.”

Sam leaned forward in his seat, “Y/N, you didn’t make a deal with him, did you?”

“What?!” Y/N looked between the two brothers, shocked. Dean wouldn’t look her in the eye, terrified she’d say yes. “Of course not! Like he said, Crowley couldn’t help me. There was nothing to make a deal about. He couldn’t offer me anything.”

Again, the brothers shared uneasy looks, “But there was something you were willing to make a deal about? What was it you so desperately wanted?”

Y/N threw her arms up, exasperated with the relentless questioning, “Fine, yes I went to Crowley for help and probably would have made a deal.”

Y/N pushed back her chair and stood up angrily from the table. Sam and Dean followed her lead, both standing from their chairs.

“For what?” Dean’s voice was gruff and angry, it set him on edge that she, or Sam would ever do that.

“I was looking for someone that could help me free Adam from the cage. I thought Crowley as King of Hell might be able to, but just like everyone else he’s been a dead end.”

At the name of their mutual brother Sam and Dean both went rigid. The three siblings had never really discussed Adam and realistically the conversation was inevitable, but that didn’t make it any easier. While they never talked about him, Sam and Dean both individually felt guilty about their youngest brother’s fate.

“Y/N…”

“Don’t, okay? There really isn’t any need to even be having this conversation. There’s a reason I didn’t bring it up to you. I know you don’t care and I’m not going to make you talk about it, about him. Now you know how I meet Crowley. Happy?”

Y/N turned on her heel and went to storm out, but Dean reached out and grabbed her arm stopping her, “Just stop, you didn’t even give us a chance to say anything. Look, I know it’s a rough subject, but we don’t not care.”

Y/N let out a humorless laugh, cutting him off, “Oh you care? Wow, y’all have a weird way of showing it then. Leaving him to rot in hell with Lucifer and Michael is your way of showing you care?”

Dean’s hand dropped from Y/N’s arm, and both averted their eyes, not able to look Y/N in the eyes. When she continued her voice was harsh, with a cold edge to it, “No, if you cared you would have tried harder, hell you would have tried. You never really did. You made a half assed attempt with Death once, but quickly gave that up for Sam here. Let’s be honest with each other, if that was one of you still down there you would die trying to free the other.”

“Y/N,” Sam started, but he honestly didn’t even know what to say. How was he supposed to defend them? She was right. If Dean was trapped in the cage he would never give up trying to free his brother and Dean had done everything to free him before.

Dean tried to blink about the tears starting to form, “It’s not that black and white. Hunting never is, we wanted to save him, we really did, but you said it yourself, there is no way of getting him out.”

“Don’t. You didn’t try and exhausted all your resources and try to set him free. You figured there was no way, but you didn’t try and find a way. Don’t even try and give me that bullshit. That’s my twin brother you’re talking about and you left him in the cage for all of eternity.”

Sam and Dean were shocked into silence. The guilt they felt for Adam before now multiplied. Sam stepped towards Y/N, but she quickly stepped back from him, “I was down there Y/N, I know what it was like. If there was some way we could have saved Adam we would have done it. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy, and certainly not my brother.”

Y/N’s voice kept rising as she got angrier and angrier, “Don’t call him that. He wasn’t your brother, you never treated him like a brother. Like you treat each other, but then again no one will ever be as important to you to as each other is.”

“What does that mean?” Dean snapped.

“It means unless you’re Sam and Dean Winchester, you better watch your back, because you two will screw over anyone to save each other.”

Sam gave her a lost look and tried again to reach out for her, “C’mon, that’s not true. Y/N-”

“No, it’s a hundred percent true. You’ll always pick each other, like with Adam, hell like with the apocalypse. You will risk everything, even the safety of the whole world to protect each other. I can’t trust you two; I can’t trust that you’d do anything for me. I never will be able to, because if push comes to shove one day, I’m the extendable one here.”

Sam and Dean stood there in shock, not sure how to respond, “That’s what I thought.”

It was the slam of Y/N’s door that finally shook the boys out of it.
