Grease always feels like a tragedy to me whenever I watch it. The message seems to be that you have to change who you are in order to find love. It’s obvious that Sandy and Danny love each other but it takes Sandy to change her whole image to finally be with him. Meanwhile, Danny doesn’t change at all (or learn that much) and accepts his love’s new take on life. Especially in today’s age that seems like a very mean spirited take on romance and yet I see no one really argue about it. I guess when people are singing such upbeat tunes it’s hard to see the dirty side of it all.
