  • Mom: Honey, come here please!
  • Me: Yeah?
  • Mom: *Gestures to the home page of YouTube on AppleTV*
  • Me: Oh fuck.
  • Mom's boyfriend Brent: Ahh, not too fond of the male gender huh?
  • Me: Uhm...
  • Brent: Relax kid, I'm not here to judge like a homophobic asshole. However, I'm probably a horrible dad since I placed bets on whether my daughter had a girlfriend or not. When she came out I told her about it, but boy was her reaction priceless! Totally worth it.
  • Mom: We're okay with this, but I don't need your younger siblings and cousins to be watching these videos just yet. There's no doubt that they're constantly curious and will click on anything that piques their interests.
  • Little brother: But the gay side of YouTube is the best side of YouTube. Tyler Oakley is the best person ever! So is Troye, Connor, Joey, and everyone else.
  • Little sister: Stevie & Ally are way too cute! Also the Gay Women Channel are hilarious!
  • Me: In my defense, I didn't tell them about these people or encourage them whatsoever to watch them.
  • Mom: *Sighs and shakes head*
  • Brent: A lot of Anna Kendrick and Brittany Snow videos are popping up. I will never be able to watch those Pitch Perfect movies ever again without my Bechloe goggles on.
  • Me: I like you.
  • Brent: If you like me now, you'll love me soon enough. Your mom told me that you're obsessed with that lesbian vampire web series. Well since she says she doesn't have the time to watch it. How about we binge watch it right now?
  • Me: You my friend, are going to regret this.
  • Brent: I sat down and watched all of Faking It for my daughter's sake. I'm sure I can handle 72 episodes that are less than 6 minutes long.
  • Me: Well actually 84 episodes because there's season 1, 2, and 0.
  • Brent: What does this fandom do with their lives?
  • Me: Don't ask that question or else I'll be dragging you down this garbage chute with me.
  • Little sister: Sin. That's all that fandom ever does.
  • Brent: ...
  • Mom: ...
  • Little brother: ...
  • Me: No clue what she's talking about.

My top 10 Albums of 2015
Since I love more music than just Alabama Shakes I wanted to share what other music I like with you guys by sharing my top 10 albums of this year!
1. Alabama Shakes ‘Sound and Color’
This is obviously number one on my list because this album made me really appreciate music and love Alabama Shakes. I will never not sing a song from this album. This album exceeded my expectations and I hope one day I get to see them perform it live.
2. BØRNS ‘Dopamine’
This is amazing. And this is a debut album. I am speechless. Thank you Børns.
3. HOLYCHILD ‘The Shape of Brat Pop to Come’
I first heard HOLYCHILD on Snapchats’ discovery story. They were definitely different and I was on search for new music so I decided to check them out. I honestly didn’t think I would like their music but I was completely wrong. I actually liked some of their songs and within a month after its release I was in LOVE with this album. I would have never thought I would like a music genre called ‘Brat Pop’. Liz and Louie have done an amazing job on their debut album.
4. Twenty One Pilots ‘Blurryface’
I honestly didn’t really know much about Twenty One Pilots until the beginning of this summer. All I knew was I liked ‘Holding on to You’ and they came out with a new album. But when I actually decided one day to actually listen to tøp I slowly fell in love with 'Blurryface’. There is not one song that sounds so similar to the last. It’s just a great album. So glad I got to see them live.
5. Alessia Cara 'Know It All’
I first fell in love with Alessia after hearing her debut EP 'Four Pink Walls’ which is incredible! This album is the cherry on top. I highly recommend this album.
6. The Neighborhood 'Wiped Out’
I first fell in love with The Neighbourhood with their first album. After awhile though it did kind of get boring and I stopped listening. When The nbhd released their first single not to long ago I was skeptical at first but I Loved It! Every single they released for this album and so is every song on this album. If you haven’t heard any of their songs check them out! I’m glad I got to see them perform their first album live and I hope I get to see them perform this one.
7. Troye Sivan 'Blue Neighbourhood’
YES THIS ABLUM CAME OUT ONLY A WEEK AGO AND YES IT IS AMAZING! To be completely honest the first time I heard Troye Sivan I thought I didn’t like him. I was too quick to judge because when his 2nd ep 'WILD’ was released I decided to give him another listen and I fell in love. This album will exceed your expectations. I highly recommend this!
8. Florence + The Machine 'How Big How Blue How Beautiful’
Before this album I really wasn’t a big Florence fan, all I knew were her popular singles. But when I heard her single on the radio for 'How Big How Blue How Beautiful’ I knew I would have to give her album a listen when it was released and I was so glad I did. Please listen to this album if you haven’t it is beautiful.
9. Misterwives 'Our Own House’
This is another album I didn’t think I would enjoy but I love it sooooo much. Check out them if you haven’t, you won’t regret it.
10. Beach House 'Depression Cherry’
I hadn’t heard of Beach House until this album came out and I was sad I didn’t. This band is amazing and does amazing things with their talents.

10 New Artists You Need to Know: January 2016

Rolling Stone  Brittany Spanos

Troye Sivan

Sounds Like: A John Green book set to a dream-pop soundtrack

For Fans of: Broods, the Neighbourhood, romantic suburban angst

Why You Should Pay Attention: The South Africa-born, Australia-raised Troye Sivan had a Top Ten album last month with Blue Neighborhood and lead single “Wild” has more than 12 million YouTube views. Though he’s only 20 years old, stardom has been 10 years in the making. As a pre-teen he began acting on stage (Oliver!, Waiting for Godot) and on screen (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), but he got his real start just over three years ago with his YouTube channel, becoming a popular vlogger. Still, before he became internet famous, music had been his first love and he released four EPs since 2007 before finally unveiling his debut, Blue Neighbourhood, a lush electropop collection that tackles angsty teen romance in an idyllic manner. “I was very limited for a very long time,” Sivan explains of why he waited so long to release a full-length album. “The song that ended up getting me signed to my record label was a song called ‘The Fault in Our Stars,’ which was my first time producing and writing everything. I did it all myself, and it took ages. If I listen back now, I’m pretty sure I hear glitches.”

For the singer-songwriter, not only did he find pop icons like Michael Jackson and the Spice Girls influential, but he also credits the discovery of Swedish and Scandinavian artists like Robyn and Donkeyboy as a teenager with expanding his ideas of what pop can be. “It was mind-blowing to me that pop music could be really smart and cool and still be pop music and still make you feel as good and still be catchy.” Later on, artists like Lorde and Lana Del Rey — “[With her lyrics,] it’s guaranteed some young person is going to get it tattooed on their body” —paved the way for Blue Neighborhood, showing him ways that youth can be described in smart ways while still reaching a large audience.

He Says: “Most of my visual inspiration comes from spending a lot of time online, scrolling through beautiful Tumblr blogs and finding really cool artists and photographers on Instagram. The artist who did my artwork for the Wild EP and Blue Neighbourhood was an artist I found on Tumblr from Taiwan. I also found the typographer who did the Wild handwriting for the cover art online as well. Most of my discovery and inspiration for visuals comes from online.”

Hear for Yourself: The gorgeous, dreamy “Wild” previewed his sweet and whimsical debut LP.
