bring on the winter!

taking flight

I see the look in your eyes
a wounded animal
I’m so sorry, you deserve better
let me kiss the pain away

I shoulder the weight of your sighs
yours - an act so criminal
no amount of kisses can unfetter
the soul’s ache after an ‘I just don’t care’?

The words that escaped
I’d eat them all like shattered glass
To bring the sun back to your eyes
To tape up your broken heart

Acts of indulgence
cry louder than your words of porcelain.
As night follows day, mistrust followed love
with fragments lost, is it possible to go back?

I’ve damaged the nest you built for me
I broke the windows in our home
There’s nothing I regret more
than bringing winter to your love.

Regret, regret - always the undoing,
the unspeaking, impossible as the sun
rising anywhere but East; where have our
swallows flown, this stormy love to weather?

Birds soar back as weather grows warmer
They fly North once again
Returning to climes familiar
like the sparrow, please come home

my heart knew the way once
yet I have no map of lips, compass of kisses
and no breadcrumbs left
but tears to navigate the stars with.

Is there no way
to recover the shipwreck?
to turn your gaze upward?
to follow the northern star?

On fiery waves, our flotsam shall sway
eternal; all good intentions lead here -
where is north of hell in the mind
but hell ascended?

Is there flint in your soul?
stone walls too tall to mount.
I scream till I’m hoarse
you’ve simply stopped listening.

My soul is ash,
wasteland deep and empty;
after such betrayal it hears nothing
though the heart submits at the whisper of a kiss.

I want nothing more
than to bandage your wounds
to return your smile
you seem to have lost it.

Then, love, hold my broken nothings
in your healing arms.
say nothing but kisses
do nothing but prayers.

The fruits of working with with the sunny, witty, talented, and delightul @drearydaffodil . So much fun! Thank you for the collaboration! :)

“I love you” isn’t what you think it looks like. It’s not romantic dates and holding hands.
“I love you” is taking care of someone when they’re blackout drunk and throwing up
“I love you” is popping back pimples and still kissing through the runny noses winter brings
“I love you” is drooling during sex and laughing together
“I love you” is being held while violently sobbing because of an anxiety attack
“I love you” is discussing what your morning breath smells like with each other
“I love you” is “I don’t want to but I will for you and only you.”
It’s all the good and the bad and the gross and the beautiful and ugly things about life and embracing that in each other.

Valentine’s as a holiday is garbage, but Jim and Spock hanging out to watch the sun rise on a farm is not.

Art School Stereotypes I’ve observed*

Animation

  • N e r d s
  • Unhealthily obsessed with video games, anime, Disney, or some sick combination of the three
  • One of the most sleep-deprived majors, but also surprisingly chipper (there are exceptions)
  • Instantly recognizable by their triforce t-shirts or Pokemon Go snapbacks
  • In spite of everything, they have the highest population of straight-edge asexuals
  • If you weren’t straight edge and celibate before, then prepare to be, because you’re about to disown all bodily urges and dedicate your life to drawing cartoon animals

Illustration

  • Like Animation majors, but cooler and much better taste in fashion. A little less tech-savvy, though
  • Comic book nerds

Painting & Drawing

  • A friend of mine once said, “People who love animation go into animation. Then they realize it’s a ton of work and switch to illustration. Then they realize THAT’S a ton of work and switch into Painting & Drawing.”
  • Highest percentage of colorful hair and weird tattoos/piercings
  • grunge
  • Listen to music you’ve never heard of
  • Smoke a LOT, asthmatics beware

Ceramics

  • Kinda stereotypical stoners or high level artsy kids, but not that pretentious
  • Somehow even more conceptual and indie than P&D
  • Behind the ceramics building, there’s a sculpture garden of all the sculptures of students past. Every night, the campus closes at 4AM. They say it’s for security, but I say it’s because the sculptures all come to life at that point. I mean, think about it. The whole “spooky midnight hour” is so cliche, I don’t know anyone who DOESN’T stay up till midnight at least once a week. But 4AM? That’s the true witching hour. The hour that belongs only to the living sculptures (and architecture majors I guess)

Glass

  • Frankly, the least hygienic major
  • All the males and most of the females have a rank odor after being sweatily hunched over the steaming hot forges for too long
  • Might be stoners, but the chill, easy-to-hang-out-with stoners
  • Probably the most like a real family. I always walk by the Glass Studio at night and feel the breeze of warm air from their fire, catch a riff of tasteful classic rock, and hear the echoes of genuine laughter from within. It must be nice to have a home.

Jewelry

  • I dunno, I’ve never met one. They put on some sick gallery shows, though.

Graphic Design

  • In spite of Graphic Design as an art not being super emotional or indie compared to, say, Painting, the GD majors are probably some of the most tortured souls I’ve met
  • I used to be best friends/date a GD major and watched before my eyes as she was crushed by the world around her from Freshman to Junior year. Honestly I’m not sure if she still goes here. We don’t talk anymore, it’s too painful. I miss her, or rather, I miss the person she used to be. The person she used to be before Graphic Design.
  • I’m now roommates with a poor little GD Freshman, and I worry about her every day. Not as a lover like with the last one, but as a parent. What will happen to her? How long will she last? Cheyenne, if you’re reading this, run away while you still can.
  • Gets excited about fonts and kerning.
  • I don’t really know what kerning is.

Photography

  • Outdoorsy and nature loving hippies
  • The chillest major, I envy them
  • Photography IS hard work, don’t get me wrong, but come ON! You travel to a beautiful mountain spring, snap a few pictures, and call it a day
  • Never need to pull all-nighters
  • Seriously, I deeply respect Photography as an art and all BUT

Film

  • Some of them are also outdoorsy and nature loving hippies, the rest are hipSTERS
  • “I don’t watch ‘movies.’ I watch Films.
  • Apparently they have something of a drug problem, i.e., half the class comes in stoned
  • My friend Chris said one of the film teachers plays Porno he made in class, I’m not sure if he was messing with me or not

Architecture

  • Oh boy, Architecture
  • The coldest hearts of any major
  • The only nice Architecture majors are the first years. After that last final, something inside of them breaks. At that point they either crawl to a different major in submission, or become as sharp, straight, and lifeless as the buildings which they spend so much time designing
  • They literally do not sleep
  • Seriously, I was pulling an all-nighter last week (since the Architecture place is the only place open 24/7) and I swear to god there was an entire CLASSFULL of the Architects up and jamming from 10pm to 7am. I tried to sleep, but the Architecture majors just wouldn’t quit. Also, it was so cold there. So cold. Cold from the hearts of fifth-year Architects. I’m bringing my winter backpacking sleeping bag next time.

Industrial Design

  • Mostly foreign exchange students, especially Chinese, Indian, and Korean
  • I don’t speak Chinese, Indian, OR Korean so I can’t say much else
  • Vaguely like Architecture majors, only they appear to have a normal spectrum of human emotions

Interactive Design

  • What is Interactive Design? Honestly I don’t really know. Like making Apps or some shmuck.
  • Tech
  • Graphic Designers who love themselves

Fashion

  • Mostly female
  • Obviously they’re very very VERY nicely dressed
  • Calm, confident, but also have fun sides

Textiles

  • Most of the textiles students I’ve met are just stop-motion loving Animators
  • I think the ones that aren’t are probably like grandmas that love knitting or something

Furniture

  • Honestly I didn’t know this was a major until like last semester
  • The only furniture major I’ve met was this Norwegian dude who looked like a greek god
  • We were once assigned to do a group project together but then he blew me off to go surfing so I had to do it myself. Seriously? Surfing???? Like I’d be mad but that’s a cool reason to blow someone off. Hell, I’d blow people off surfing if I had the easy life of a non-animation-major

Writing

  • “We have a writing program?”
  • They’re cool though
  • Get really excited about books. I’ve read only about three or four books so I kind of just smile and nod while they talk
  • Seem genuinely interested in other people’s stories

Community Art

  • I’m not entirely sure what this is
  • Passionate about social justice and teamwork

Disclaimer: No offense to any of them (except architecture majors)

*At California College of the Arts from my relativley limited perspective as an animation major who frankly has only had minimal interactions with the others

had an idea that adrien finds a stray kitten on the way home from patrol one night and brings it home to keep it out of the winter cold and maybe give it a place to rest for the evening, since it’s obviously without a mother or any sort of protection/way to feed itself

  • he tells himself he wont keep it; that he’ll bring it to the vet in the morning and have it checked out, then bring it to the animal shelter so it can be adopted
  • but overnight the kitten falls asleep on adrien’s chest, and it purrs and stretches out its tiny paws, and oh no, it’s too cute, too cute, abort, ABORT
  • so he tells himself he’ll bring it to his and ladybug’s next patrol to let her say hello, since she once mentioned something about loving cats, and only after that he’ll do something about it
  • but when this little angel clings onto his shoulder and seems to enjoy the ride across the rooftops, and is so darn sweet to ladybug (who smiles very big in return), adrien knows he can’t just get rid of this precious creature just like that!
  • one week, he tells himself. one week with this kitten and then he’ll find her a home
  • one week turns into three, and three turn into eight, and suddenly adrien’s got a cat of his own that he brings to every patrol and lets sleep on his chest every night while simultaneously doing his best to hide her from his father who probably already knows because let’s face it you dont just see a €500 cat condo in your son’s amazon order history and think nothing of it…but hey he’s just glad his kid found something to keep him happy
  • so adrien has a cat. a cat who he invites all of his friends over to see, including marinette, who can almost swear she’s seen that kitten before, on someone else’s shoulders…but hey, it’s just a coincidence, right? lots of cats have similar markings!
  • (bonus points if adrien names the kitten Buginette/Bugaboo)

In California, an extremely wet winter put an end to the state’s record-breaking drought. Heavy rainfall also produced welcome spring scenes — like replenished reservoirs and fields in bloom.

“It’s a completely different look,” says Justin Sullivan, a Getty Images photographer who took before-and-after style photos of drought-stricken areas. “It’s just like a velvety green, lush landscape now — compared to just dry, brown, almost like a moonscape before.”

Sullivan’s photos show how one of the wettest winters on record is bringing the land back to life. In early 2014, Sullivan documented the drought at its worst. He shot photos from a helicopter above reservoirs like Lake Oroville.

Muslim-owned restaurant serves free meals to anyone in need — no questions asked

  • In Montreal, a cold winter brings out some warm hearts.
  • One eatery called Marché Ferdous has been giving away free meals to anyone who needs it, Canadian news site Global News reported.
  • The restaurant crew originally wanted to help the crowd of homeless people who gather near a church next door
  • So it posted a sign that reads “People with no money welcome to come eat free.” Read more

☀️ Spell for Warmth in Winter ☀️

Materials:

  • Any stone associated with fire (e.g. amber, sunstone, fire opal).
  • A yellow/gold/orange/red candle.
  • Anything that YOU associate with fire/warmth.

Instructions:

  1. Take several deep, calming breaths and clear your mind before you begin.
  2. Light the candle and hold your hands close, feeling the warmth of the fire. Imagine the warmth spreading through your fingertips, up your arms, and into the rest of your body.
  3. Take a few moments to bask in the warmth. Feel the cold slipping away.
  4. Hold the stone of your choice (or substitute) over your heart. Keep your breathing slow and even as the warmth envelopes your body, fueled by the stone.
  5. Take as long as you’d like to bask in the warmth. Once you’re ready, blow out the candle.
  6. Keep your stone/object of choice with you on cold winter days to bring you some warmth! ☀️🔥🌟

Feel free to substitute any materials or tweak the process. Do whatever works for you!

🌛🐛 Worm Moon 🐛🌜

what is the worm moon?

🌛 also called the “sap moon”, for the way sap rises in plants as the weather turns. it is the full moon of march. the ground softens and winter ends, bringing forth the earthworms.

what does that mean for witchcraft?

🐛 this is the time for planting seeds, literally or figuratively. though there isn’t much greenery or growth yet, it is a time of preparation and planning.

🌛 this moon works best with longer, time-intensive rituals or spells that carry out over a longer amount of time. spells that encourage growth and moving on work well with the worm moon’s energy.

🐛 spells that strengthen and renew you are most powerful with this moon, as well as self care, prosperity and healing spells.

All you could remember before passing out from losing blood from a gunshot, was an agent threatening to steal Bucky away from you, saying they would stop at nothing to bring their “precious Winter Soldier” back. They would track him down, lock him away, and erase his memory again. You wouldn’t let that happen.

The red book that held those words that echoed through Bucky’s mind was in a safe place when you arrived, hidden from everyone in sight. Then an agent brought it out and was dangling it right in your face, only furthering their threat. You had to take it. You wouldn’t let them torture Bucky like that ever again.

In the quinjet, you had woken up and you were biting on a rag as Steve used a pair of surgical tweezers to remove the bullet. You screamed into the rag, your teeth nearly cracking at the intense grip you had. “I’m sorry! I-it’s really in there.” He frowned at the pain he was causing you, he hated having to do this.

You started feeling dizzy the longer this took. You felt tears fill your eyes and you let out a huge breath when you felt Steve finally pull the bullet out. “Bucky’s gonna freak out, you know that, right?” Steve asked as he cleaned around your wound. You nodded gently, watching Steve get a needle and stitch ready.

It didn’t take long for him to stitch it up and the quinjet landed right after he put medical tape on the sides of a large piece of gauze. You pulled your shirt down and gave Steve an appreciative hug.

As you walked down the landing strip, Bucky ran over to you and greeted you and Steve with a wide smile. You smiled back and ignored the soreness in your side. Bucky’s face fell as he watched you limping a little, not being able to walk correctly from stretching the stitches. “What happened?” Your resolve fell at his question. “Really?” You whined at how quickly he could figure out you were hurt.

Bucky reached his hands out to hold your waist, but you recoiled, wincing at the contact. He gasped and his eyebrows creased with worry. “Y/N? Steve, why did she…“ Bucky whispered, his eyes on your mid-section. “Right, I’m gonna go. Good luck, Y/N!” Steve quickly ran off, not wanting to be here for this. He understood why you did what you did. You saved Bucky, but barely saved yourself in the process.

“I got shot.” You said barely over a whisper. Bucky’s mouth fell slack and his eyes nearly fell out of their sockets. “Why’d you get shot?!” He exclaimed, his hands hovering over your waist. He tried lifting your shirt up but you stopped him. You already knew he would blame himself for this. Even if it was your choice.

Bucky ran his hands through his hair frantically as his breathing picked up. “How could this happen!? Where was Steve? Who shot you!? I’ll kill them! Y/N, oh my God!” Bucky was a total mess in mere seconds, his emotions ranging from anger to sadness, and worry.

You quickly stopped Bucky by grabbing his forearms, making him look down at you. “Bucky! I’m okay! I got the book.” Bucky stopped freaking out, his eyes on yours. He visibly calmed down and took a moment to process what you said. “You what?” He squinted his eyes at you.

“I got the book.” You repeated with a small smirk. The team had been after the book for the past few months while Bucky stayed behind. This time you and Steve went. And with a sudden twist of fate, you got it. You took pride in being the one that retrieved it, regardless if you got hurt.

Bucky’s eyebrows raised and his back straightened. “That was stupid.” He muttered after a few short moments, shaking his head. He couldn’t believe that you would risk your life for him. A book, that held his biggest fears, was now safe. All because of you. “It was worth it.” You started to walk towards the elevator on the roof.

Bucky followed beside you and lightly shook his head. “You’re so…” He trailed off, slipping his hand in yours. “Amazing?” You smiled up at him, rubbing your thumb along his skin. He chuckled, though you knew he was still shaken up, and leaned down to kiss your head.

“Amazing.”
