oh no what happened? :(

It wasn’t me this time, though it has been in the past and it probably will be again in the future seeing the nature of things in the Marvel fandom since Civil War.  I made that comment for a very dear friend, who has been absolutely harassed these last couple weeks, and I’m tired of watching it happen and not being able to do anything to stop it.  She loves Steve in a Stony fandom that sadly seems to be intent on destroying itself, but the fact of the matter is what she loves and what she ships and what she writes is not important.  Fandom is supposed to be FUN.  It doesn’t matter if you love Steve or Tony or Natasha or Bruce or Scott Lang or Loki or Rumlow.  It doesn’t matter if you love Stony or Stucky or Steggy or Clintasha or Hulktasha or WHATEVER.  We all deserve a place to have fun talking about what we like, where we can draw and write and make meta and consume without continual fear of being smashed down for it.  It’s sickening.  My friend is an EXCELLENT author and does what she does despite issues in real life, and she does NOT deserve to be flamed because she didn’t write the story someone else wanted her to write.  Or because she likes Steve.  Or for ANY REASON WHATSOEVER.

So please, please, please!  Don’t spread hate.  Don’t make hate.  Don’t write mean comments.  Don’t tear other fans down over fictional characters or over the story/art they worked hard to produce for the community.  That stuff hurts, and maybe it makes you feel better because, man, you got the author of that story back GOOD for writing something that you didn’t like or that bothered you…  But you know what it really makes you?  An asshole.  That’s it.  And the fact is, if people keep tearing other people down for PRODUCING fandom content FOR FREE, there ain’t gonna be any more content produced.  This person is this close to walking away because she’s been so battered by “readers”, and that’d be a real shame.  So stop.  When you flame and hate and criticize, you are making yourself look really bad.  You are making the content creator miserable, and they’re not going to want to create anymore, and this goes on and on until eventually the stuff YOU love is going to go away, too.
