I drew several commissioned versions of a piece depicting the menacing, allegedly Japanese dragon-headed walking stick belonging to the titular character in Brian Bixby’s The Dragon Lady of Stockbridge: A Tale of Magic in the Gilded Age.  A conté-on-toned-paper version currently appears in the Sillyverse blog header.  The other two versions of this illustration will appear in the Sillyverse blog at a later date.

Friday night is the opening reception for Heroes & Villains: Exploring Archetypes Through Art at Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center in scenic Solomons, Maryland. My ink, watercolor, and acrylic piece “Cringe In Terror of the Shaker Elder” – originally created as an illustration for Brian L. Bixby’s talk on fictional treatment of Shakers during the Enfield Shaker Forum of 2010 – is included among work by 27 other artists.

The exhibit is open to the public 19 June through 23 August. Reception with refreshments and live music Friday, 19 June, 6—9 PM. Both the reception, and admission to the museum at all other times, are Free for Annmarie members, $5 for non-members.
