Summary:   Sebastian Vael had a chance to escape. Exiled from Starkhaven, free of the Chantry, he could have gone anywhere, done anything. Instead he came back, of all things, to join a cloistered order of monks. Sebastian enters the mysterious, inner heart of the religious community- a place of complexity and conflict, as well as joy and love. It is a place where Sebastian finds his life by losing it. - a rewrite of Rumer Godden’s In This House of Brede.

Beside St. Brona’s there lay another monastery, small and insignificant. A tall fence made of stone and brick surrounded the building, blocking it completely from view. Only the tops of the spires could be seen from the outside. This was home to the Cathaires. Unlike the Orders of St. Brona and St. Havard, the Cathaires did not require their postulants to pay for their keep. They accepted anyone into their ranks – farmers, servants, even elves – anyone who had the vocation. It was not a place one would expect to find a prince like him, but then Sebastian had always made it a habit of being exactly where he wasn’t supposed to be. When he had decided that he would join the Order of St. Cathaire, Sebastian had written to his father. You can come and see me, it had said. You will have to come, I can’t come to you. I shall be enclosed. The Cathaires were a contemplative order. Sebastian would spend the rest of his days behind these stone walls, in meditation and prayer. Everyone had always said he was too impetuous, leaping before looking, never slowing down to think. Well, now he will do nothing but think… Read More

(Okay, I know I should probably finish my other rewrites before starting a new one, but I love reading about nuns and monks - which is kind of weird for an atheist, I admit. I even thought about becoming a nun before I realized that the whole “believing in god” thing was probably a requirement - and when I found Godden’s House of Brede, I knew that it was perfect for Sebastian.)

anonymous asked:

Nee.

Dank je!
