okay, if you don’t think john has always been special and that sherlock fell in love with him from the first time they met, please consider this
Sherlock may not always understand empathy, but he understands some basic human psychology and knows how to use certain actions in order to cause certain reactions, as he lets on in this scene from ‘Many Happy Returns’.
In other words, he knows how to get others to like him —if he wanted to.
But he doesn’t. Most of the time he doesn’t, mainly because he considers normal people to be dull and vulgar. This is made particularly clear in this scene of ASiB, which has very similar lines to those he says in MHR:
In this scene, Sherlock is presented with a way to appeal to his ‘fans’ and to be more ‘accessible’ by letting them see he’s not perfect or almighty, and his reaction is disgust. He clearly has no interest in being liked by people in general. He doesn’t give a shit what anyone thinks of him. He has the necessary tools to be accepted among ‘common folks’ and yet he repeatedly states that he has no wish to fit in.
In fact, the only times we see him using his ‘smile and wink’ strategy are…
LITERALLY JOHN IS THE ONLY PERSON WITH WHICH SHERLOCK BOTHERS TO LOOK FRIENDLY, ACCESSIBLE AND, LIKE HE SAID IN ‘MANY HAPPY RETURNS’, HUMAN.
CAN YOU FUCKING BELIEVE SHERLOCK WANTED JOHN TO SEE HIS HUMANITY FROM THE VERY FIRST MOMENT. HE TRIED SO HARD TO BE THE MOST HUMANISED VERSION OF HIMSELF, TO MAKE HIMSELF RELATABLE SO JOHN WOULD BE DRAWN TO HIM.
“There will always be people who say mean words because you are different, and sometimes their minds cannot be changed. But there are many more people who do not judge others based on how they look or where they are from. Those are the people whose words truly matter.”
Tao: So much so much, i want to say so much. Especially because since debut until now, the people who have liked me before and the people who like me now may possibly be different. However there are also many people who have supported me from the start. Firstly i would like to say some things to the Hailangs who have supported me since the beginning and the Hailangs who support me now: Honestly i am really not the type to say those sorts of words but my heart is not bad. Accompanying me from that period of time until now… i believe that is my biggest source of motivation to persevere. I really cherish you all and i am going to use my actions to give back to you guys. I hope you guys can listen to every lyric in my songs because they are things i wrote with my sincerity. I am going to use my efforts and actions to tell you guys that, “You did not love the wrong person”
I’ve seen a lot of comments comparing this image of Sanji to Luffy at the execution tower in Logue Town or Corazon’s final interaction with Law, but when I saw it, it made me think of this:
This was on the Maxim in Skypeia. Sanji just maneuvered Usopp and Nami out of harm’s way, at the cost of having to take a direct hit from Enel’s El Thor attack. (Chapter 284)
It’s something about that smile on Sanji’s face, in both images; it’s the look of someone about to meet his fate and being okay with it if it means his friends survive.
The one difference, though, is Sanji’s eyes were veiled in Skypeia – I’d like to believe that Sanji felt it unnecessary to linger on what he’s leaving behind as he has no need to reflect on it when he’s dead.
On the other hand, he took a good look at Nami, Chopper and Brook on Zou so that he would be able to remember them fondly in his thoughts. He knew he wasn’t going to die, but he’s accepted that he’s unlikely to see them again.
Ron Weasley offered the stranger sitting next to him on the train half his sandwich, even though it was all he had. Ron Weasley sacrificed himself for the good of Harry and Hermione at age eleven, because even then he thought they were more important than he was, and the ones worth saving. Ron Weasley was Harry Potter’s first friend, and the first thing Harry ever had resembling a family. Ron Weasley lived in a cramped house, and wore hand me down robes, and he didn’t even think twice about offering his room and food and family to Harry every break, he offered him every thing he could and gave him everything he had. Ron Weasley took care of Harry Potter and Hermione Granger when they were too busy taking care of the rest of the world to worry about themselves. Ron Weasley stood on broken bones when he was thirteen years old, to tell a man infamous for murder that if he planned on killing his best mate, he would have to go through him first. Ron Weasley was the person Harry would miss most in the world. Ron Weasley was a pureblood wizard who, from a very young age, devoted his life to abolishing blood status, even if he didn’t quite understand his own privilege. Ron Weasley’s greatest fears and insecurities were tied up in his two best friends seeing him the way he saw himself. They were tied up in the idea, imbedded deeply in Ron Weasley, that he was somehow inferior. Ron Weasley gave Dobby his own clothes and socks to be buried in, because he understood how important it would have been to him. Ron Weasley thought about saving the house elves when everyone else forgot. If you don’t love Ron Weasley, The Boy Who Cared, I don’t know what books you read but they weren’t the same ones I did.
