I found what I’d been looking for in myself / Found a life worth living for someone else

Anonymous said to buckykingofmemes: Ok but talking about salsa and swing I gotta ask if Steve’s done any dance sketches, it is in my contract as a social dance nerd

steve actually has a ton of dance sketches. he used to come with me when i wanted to go dancing and use it as life drawing practice. said it helped him get the unusual poses better.

anyway, this sketch  is a really old one, from back before the war. that lovely lady im dancing with is my baby sister becca. becca and i used to do swing competitions together, and we were an unstoppable team, since we’d been dancing together since before she could walk. we danced with other people a lot, but when it came to competitions becca and i were pure magic. i was a pretty big guy and she was always tiny, so i could whip her through steps and lifts like lightning. and she always trusted me to catch her, since id been tossing her in the air for as long as she could remember, and never once let her drop. the two of us would invent lifts nobody else in brooklyn would dare to try.

sometimes we roped stevie into helping, because he wasnt much bigger than becca, and we didnt have mirrors to practice with. so if we wanted to see how a move looked, we’d teach stevie becca’s lift and she’d watch and figure out what needed changing. steve had no rhythm at all, but he was usually game for the lifts. later, in the star spangled show, they tried to make use of some of those, but he still didnt have the steps down, so it never worked out.

after i got drafted, becca kept dancing. by the time she was thirty, she held the title of brooklyns longest-running swing queen, with fifteen consecutive wins.

(That last gif demanded this. But on the note, have to wonder if Hakuba’s ever been to one of Kaito’s ‘heists’ where he really doesn’t do anything. Green Dream is especially coming to mind as Kid accomplishing something, just not exactly what everyone expected. Or, you know. Ryoma or that baseball incident. I’d love to know Hakuba’s thoughts on ones like those, even if he gets that Kaito isn’t a bad thief.)

So, I got an idea.

I know everyone’s jumping on the idea of reapfist, and I’m the last one to say Jack is a healthy influence for Gabriel (even in my own headcanons and writing as a R76 shipper I tend to acknowledge that Jack has a lot of soul-searching, apologizing, and compromising to do before he’s earned back so much as a passing glance from Gabe after the shit he’s put up with). And I’d definitely say that without that effort from Jack, Gabe just plain deserves better than his flat pasty ass.

But look. Listen. Gabriel cares about people hardcore. We’ve seen it with everyone he’s ever been close to. He’s even said to respect and be a little proud of Sombra, according to the devs. He’s a fake-edgy hardass with a gooey halloween themed marshmallow center.

And Akande? Yeah no. He doesn’t care about much of anyone or anything. He’s got his “humanity will get stronger through conflict” deal which is probably talking about a long-term goal of escalation and encouraging various arms races, and that’s probably for the sake of preventing the kind of shit that went down during the omnic crisis the first time around, but to me that seems to be rooted in the trauma of losing his arm. Strength means no one else can beat him, and if he’s never beaten, he’s never left to be just another name etched into a memorial.

Gabriel doesn’t think this way. To him, every name on a memorial is another letter of condolence sent to a family. It’s a face he’ll never see in the mess hall, a dumb joke he won’t hear again, an echo of something that won’t ever come back. Even if Akande thinks he’s being pragmatic and realistic, seeing things as the world might see them, Gabriel can’t justify it. We’ve seen how he never kills more than he has to. We know he took in criminals and turned them into good people. His isn’t a policy of “might makes right”, it’s about justice.

Akande knows better than to step into an argument with that, and I doubt Gabriel’s point of view is about to change his mind anytime soon. It’s the wrong angle to approach it from. He’s too hardened and purposefully distant, cool and calm and strategic. What he needs isn’t someone who’ll agree to disagree because if they don’t it’ll get ugly, it’s someone a bit more…

Optimistic. Someone who can parry his cool boardroom debate skills with clear examples of the world simply not being as fucked and in need of escalation as he thinks it is. Someone who could be said to be as much of an outlaw terrorist as he is, from a certain point of view. Maybe even someone who’s creative, who’s… Musical.

My friends, I see your offer of reapfist and raise you: doomfrog.

Shiro canonically being six and a quarter years old is the best news I’ve heard this entire year.

Make fun of my kid? I'll get you back somehow.

So I am not sure if this belongs in @prorevenge, sense it wasn’t planned on my part. It kind of just fell in my lap. Feels more than petty, so here I am.

For a bit of background: My next door neighbor is/was a college student. She lives with our actual neighbor, her boyfriend. Typical crazy college kid. Weekend parties, drinking on her patio all hours of the night, and weird hours. You know the drill. I figured she was trying to experience college life, so why not? You do you lady!

Anyways one summer night last year she was sitting out on her back patio with her girlfriends doing their drunk thing. I am out wrapping up on some stuff with my toddler daughter. She at the time had a medical thing going on that caused her to walk a little weird. Nothing life altering and something that would heal with time. She did have a weeble waddle to her, especially when running. Sometimes she would fall right over. She was out running around with the dog and the ladies next door were waving and telling her how cute she was. All good.

anonymous asked:

how could you ship bakugou and uraraka? bakugo is a total fuck boy who tormented deku for the majority of his life.

because the whole point of his character is that he’s slowly growing into a better person and realizing the error of his ways, and he’s eventually going to own up to his actions and apologize for what he did while realizing that his worth isn’t tied to being better than everyone.

this is the entire reason he exists in the first place.

also, his past history with Izuku has nothing to do with Uraraka. there are very specific reasons as to why he lashed out and abused Izuku for a decade, and it ties directly to his fear of Izuku’s potential and thinking that Izuku looked down on him for most of his life (which severely fucked Bakugou up emotionally. how dare this quirkless nobody think he’s better than Bakugou?), and to Bakugou’s self esteem issues, where he fears that Izuku might actually be able to surpass him, which only fueled his inferiority complex.

none of these reasons have anything to do with Uraraka.

i’m not justifying what Bakugou did. he still hurt and abused Izuku for ten years. however, he didn’t just do it to be a terrible person.

no one in his life ever bothered to correct his behavior, and constantly praised him, telling him how amazing he was while constantly putting down Izuku. the adults in his life all reinforced this mindset and gave him a massive superiority complex as a result, and this continued up until UA. Aizawa was the first adult figure in either character’s lives to tell Bakugou that this behavior was unacceptable, and stopped Bakugou before he could lash out at Izuku during the first day of school.

what Bakugou did was wrong, regardless of the reason, and nothing can ever justify why he did it, nor would i ever try doing so. but it’s because of the reasons that we’re able to understand why he acted that way in the first place.

it’s because he began as such an awful character that we’re able to appreciate his character growth, where he goes from joking about Izuku jumping off a building (which the narrative treats as a serious offense), to actively supporting him in his role as All Might’s successor.

the reason i ship him with Uraraka is because the point of his character is that he’s slowly becoming a better person. something like that doesn’t just happen over night. it takes time. if he suddenly had a complete 180 degree change in personality and attitude, it wouldn’t be believable, and it’d just be plain old bad writing.

i ship him with Uraraka because they helped each other’s character growth. he took her seriously as an opponent, he treated her like an equal. and when Kaminari called her weak and fragile, Bakugou reprimands him and says that there was nothing fragile about her. it’s the first time he’s ever defended another person besides himself.

(and he helped her growth as well, by refusing to go easy on her. by showing how far she’d be willing to go for her goals, by showing that she was determined to help her family no matter what. he helped show the audience that Uraraka can take the pain of battle and will give as good as she gets. that she’s not just a soft girl, or the main character’s love interest. that she’s just as determined as all the other characters to prove her worth and reach her goals.)

Bakugou’s defense of Uraraka, and his respect for her (by calling her by her name, something he only does for a very select few people, the others being All Might and Kirishima) is one of the first obvious stepping stones we get to see for his character growth. for the first time, he’s not being self centered, he isn’t raging, he isn’t suffering from the affects of his inferiority complex. for the first time, he’s he’s actively defending and respecting someone.

it was the first of many steps.

i ship them because Uraraka, in an omake, was the first person to realize how much of Bakugou’s anger towards Izuku was based on fear. no one had ever picked up on that in the past ten years. she realized there was something more to it than just anger and bullying.

she realized that something was wrong. Bakugou didn’t just blindly hate Izuku. there was more to the story; Bakugou feared Izuku. and she reached out to him, and wanted to help them both. Uraraka actively cares and worries for them both

Bakugou has no ill feelings towards Uraraka. Uraraka has no ill feelings towards Bakugou. Bakugou respects Uraraka, and Uraraka thinks Bakugou was amazing during their match. she admires him.

what Bakugou did to Izuku was horrible. he needs to make up for it somehow, which is where his character growth is headed. he’s going to realize the error of his ways and apologize to Izuku, or make up for it somehow. that’s the whole point of his character, to grow up and realize he did wrong and make up for his past actions.

but the reason why he acted that way in the first place was due to very specific reasons. he’s not going to act like that to just anyone.

he’s still just a dumbass kid who’s growing and learning an maturing. let him grow.

i don’t ship them because they’re the “bad boy” and the “peppy girl.” in fact, i rather dislike that sort of comparison, because i think it heavily oversimplifies their characters.

i ship it because Bakugou is growing as a person. he’s maturing. slowly, he’s realizing the error of his ways. i ship it because these two characters have the potential the other develop more. i ship it because Uraraka understands Bakugou, and sees through his bluster and anger. i ship it because Bakugou actually respects her as a person, and refuses to go easy on her because of her gender.

it’s about character growth, and established character relationships, and realizing that these things don’t stay static. these two have the potential to help each other in different ways.

simply describing Bakugou as a horrible person without any redeeming qualities means ignoring what Horikoshi is doing by writing his character, and it’s ignoring all the development he’s gone through throughout the series so far. it’s ignoring Horikoshi’s reasons for why Bakugou exists in the first place, an ignoring all the complex character development he’s carefully written into Bakugou, which is slowly making him learn and change and grow into a better person.

that’s the entire point to his character, after all.

Were Mila and Danny a thing??? I mean I had ~a feeling~ that they may have been at some point but...what's the tea 👀

They weren’t, as said by them plenty of times and the facts one can add.

I’m not much of a RPF fan, so I’m going to try and make this response as clear and informative as I can. But,

  • She was underage for most part of the show. He being 7 years older than her would had been a little bit crazy and honest to god disgusting if they were a thing. Which I don’t believe they were because
  • Both were on relationships by the time the rumor of them being a thing was spread. He has always present as a very monogamous man, liking and having serious and long-term relationships, which he had during the show and after, before marrying Bijou Philips. While Mila was also in a long-term serious relationship with actor Macaulay Culkin.
  • Another thing to add is the fact that both had refer to the other as their brother/sister, which makes sense since he seemed to have bonded with her pretty early during filming.
  • After the show ended, and their relationships too, they didn’t had a reason to hide if they had been together, but to this day they keep saying the same: they never dated, they see each other as brother/sister, it was only a rumor.

IMPORTANT, 24/06/2017: This post is constantly updated. It has gotten to long, so the rest is now under the cut. You can ask me whatever you want about it.

Why I can’t and won’t finish watching Iron Fist

Before anyone tries to jump down my throat about being a stupid SJW who only cares about the race angle, I would first like to point out that I enjoyed the hell out of Daredevil, another Marvel Netflix show starring a white man practicing Asian martial arts. It’s all in the execution, guys. And the execution here is garbage.

Let’s start with the martial arts. For the love of fuck, if you just HAVE to get a generic white man to play the lead, the least you could do was get one who was good at traditional martial arts. There are a lot of them. Charlie Cox, one Netflix recommendation over, pulls off some of the best fight scenes I have ever seen in a TV show (also, the man can act, so that helps too). Last month, I watched a red-belt student of mine in a local production of Macbeth. At twelve, that kid has more talent (in the acting and martial arts departments) than this Finn Jones tool.

Jessica Henwick’s form is nothing to write home about but at least she’s better than Jones. And both our action heroes would benefit greatly from some less shitty fight choreography and editing. (Guys, just adding loud ‘swoosh’ sound effects isn’t going to trick me into thinking the sword is swinging faster. I can see it).

To add insult to injury, the show condescendingly tries to make me believe that this pasty-ass piece of mediocrity is a better martial artist than Colleen Wing?? Just has him casually trounce her in her own dojo. With those wibbly-wobbly stances, son? I don’t think so. This is not real life, nor is it good fiction. This is some flabby-ass white guy’s jerk-off fantasy of being super awesome and showing up the hot Asian chick without any understanding martial arts whatsoever.

The acting in this show ranges from serviceable to painfully inept (lookin’ at you Meachum Jr. or whatever the fuck your name is, I’ll have forgotten your whole existence by tomorrow for all the impression you leave). Even the competent performances in this show only serve to remind me of more interesting characters from Netflix’s other Marvel shows. For example, Jessica Stroup’s acting is similar to Deborah Ann Woll’s performance as Karen Page, only serving to remind me that Karen Page alone is a more interesting character with more compelling scenes than half the cast of Iron Fist put together.

I will say that Colleen Wing is quite appealing and I applaud Henwick for making her both tough and charming, not an easy line to walk. If I wanted to be mean, I could point out that she is essentially just a Claire Temple 2.0 in terms of her temperament and her role as shelter and support to the Main White Guy at the point of her introduction. But I don’t actually want to pick on Colleen. She’s cute and I like her.

Now, back to being mean: STOP trying to make white characters look cool by having them speak Chinese (or any language they can’t speak for that matter, though I feel Mandarin generally gets a special kind of mangling for the crime of being a tonal language). It doesn’t sound cool. I hate to have to be the one to tell you this, guys. It makes you sound like a fucking idiot. Okay, sure, maybe you succeeded in making your white English-speaking audience think, ‘yeah, that’s really cool, he must be super smart and badass, I want to be like that.’ But White people, I am telling you this for your own good: you don’t want to be like that. Because as cool as that butchered-ass Mandarin may sound to you, it’s like a band-saw to my eardrums. It brings everything to a cringing, teeth-grinding halt in the middle of what might otherwise be a perfectly good scene. Remember when Wilson Fisk had a conversation with Madame Gao in ‘Mandarin’? That was the worst part of Netflix’s Daredevil. Worse, it made me embarrassed for an actor I greatly admire. So, to whoever decided it was a great idea to have Wilson Fisk show off his Mandarin, thanks dickhead. You wrecked an entire scene for my favorite Marvel villain.

Oh yeah, and if any of you want to try to tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about, fucking come at me bro. I have a black belt and 10+ years of training in traditional martial arts. I am a Chinese-American woman, proficient in Japanese and Mandarin, and I double majored in East Asian History and Buddhist studies.

Oh, did I mention that our protagonist keeps condescendingly spouting mystical pseudo-Buddhist bullshit to everyone he meets? And then throws temper tantrums when they (shock!) don’t take him seriously? God, I hate this show.

If I want to see better acting, I can go see a middle school play. If I want to see better fighting, I can go to the dojo and watch my seven-year-old green belts spar. If I want to hear Buddhist philosophy mangled by self-impressed white people, I can go to the yoga studio next door.

any otacon ship other than otasune is So Cursed and Darksided bc it’s either literal pedophilia or just has weird, creepy undertones

edit: it isn’t literal pedophilia unless otacon is underage but it’s still incredibly weird and creepy to ship him with bb or anyone like 40+ years older than him
