both of these teams are better than the current justice league

Iz Explains Stuff So You Don’t Have to: The Nightwing Debacle.

Hey guys! As promised, here’s a write up of what’s currently making waves in the DC/comic fandom today. Given that this subject somewhat related to the Hydra-cap nonsense, I thought it should be something I cover as well, just to sorta give non-comics fans/DC comics readers who might see this and want some context.

1. Who is Nightwing?

You guys know Robin, Batman’s sidekick who they almost always leave out of movies? This is the first (yes there’s more than one, but that’s a topic for another day) and possibly most iconic one to pop-culture. Named Richard “Dick” Grayson, Dick is the son of the flying Grayson’s , two circus acrobats who died due to mob interference during a show (he also has Romani heritage (which the comics often ignore) This will be important later). Bruce took Dick in and the rest is well history.

Dick probably has the most screen time over any Robin in film/tv adaptations, including Teen Titans, Young Justice, The Lego Batman movie, the original Adam West series, and Batman Forever. He’s arguably the best known Robin to non-comic’s readers.

Because time does pass in comics occasionally, Dick grew up and after a series of events that have been retconned so many times it’s not worth getting into, ditched the Robin mantle. He would later take up the title of Nightwing.

2. Why the name Nightwing?

Dick is a HUGE fan of Superman (no really, Superman is pretty much his uncle) and after he ditched the Robin title, Superman and him had a talk where Superman told him of two legendary kryptonian heroes Nightwing and Flamebird. Inspired by the story, Dick would take on the name of the former (the latter name has a much more varied history).

3. Okay, so what’s the big deal besides the Robin thing?

To compress a lot of history into a paragraph, Nightwing is the one DC hero that like almost every other DC hero trusts and likes. Most of the Justice League has known Dick since he was a little kid and trust him implicitly for both his general good nature and reputation of being like, a really fucking good guy. Like a really good guy. A good enough guy that when Batman was told to let his own world die to let a better more “ideal” world survive, he asked if Richard Grayson was in it to make his choice on if it actually was a better world. (Dick was not in this world, which made Batman hard pass on that shit. Really. This is a thing that happened.)

Dick has also led multiple successful superhero teams, worked on the league himself, and donned the Batman title for awhile.

4. Okay, got it. So what’s going on?

Today DC announced a new six issue limited series in an elseworld (which is a world that takes place outside of canon. Think an AU.) This is the summary:

NIGHTWING: THE NEW ORDER is the story of a future world without “weapons”—where superpowers have been eliminated and outlawed. The man responsible? None other than Dick Grayson, a.k.a. Nightwing, now leader of a government task force called the Crusaders who are charged with hunting the remaining Supers. But when events transpire which turn the Crusaders’ aim toward Grayson’s own family, the former Boy Wonder must turn against the very system he helped create, with help from the very people he’s been hunting for years—the last metahumans of the DC Universe.

Yes and no. So far, it’s safe to say that this series does echo Hydra Cap in a paragon for good and justice becoming the figurehead of a fascist regime. However, everything else is kind of more murky.

For one, this series is an elseworld, which means unlike Hydra Cap, it doesn’t take place in the regular DC universe. This is not the fate of the Dick Grayson we know and love, nor is it him; it’s a version of him in a different universe. It’s also a limited run, so we got an enddate on this sucker off the bat.

Second, this is more general fascism instead of nazi brand fascism. The first cover echoes other fascist/oppressive regimes but it applies to multiple besides the Nazi party. In the DC universe, metahumans aren’t coded as a minority group (though smaller subsets are, like the Superfamily being coded Jewish), so it’s more sci-fi than an allegory for real life oppression (though if depending on the details of this event, that remains to be seen. The writer took to Twitter to state there is absolutely no genocide here in this book but the first few pages imply otherwise and long story short, I’m not convinced). The group Dick works with is also entirely new and unlike Hydra has no link in history to the Nazi party, making the claim that they’re a general “evil fascist villain” hold water.

Third, unlike Hydra Cap, this book is branded as Dick learning the error of his choices rather than a long saga to try to convince us he has a point. I doubt we’ll see the same extent of “we should feel bad for Dick oppressing all these people” that we see in Hydra cap. However, this also remains to be seen. Long story short, it’s never gonna try to get us to root for the bad guy.

6. So it’s fine?

Now I wouldn’t say that. Making an iconic character a fascist is still something to side eye, and a lot of my above caveats can change if the story itself decides to make those connections (i.e if there are prison camps for example). It’s also important to note, that making a Romani character a fascist, and one under the label of “crusader” is in terrible taste, considering the Romani people’s history with both.

The writer is also someone I don’t have a ton of faith in when it comes to nuance. (though to his credit, he is assuring and validating concerns on twitter rather than laughing us all off as SJWs).

What I’m saying is that it’s gonna be hard to figure out exactly this is going to play out until I see the first issue. I think the storyline and the advertising is something we should be critical of, but a lot still depends on how the book approaches it. This isn’t to say you should “give it a chance” only that we might want to hold off from saying DC is promoting fascism until we see if they’re gonna take this from a “feel bad for Dick angle, not all fascists are bad” or a “Dick fucked up hard” angle. We can just say this storyline is at the very least insensitive given current events and Dick’s ethnic roots.

Plus, Dick turning on Superman is just weird, and the preview pages are not helping my concerns.

So be critical of the concept but be careful not to declare what the narrative is trying to say until we know what the narrative is.

7. And if it does come out to be “feel bad for Dick, not all fascists, narrative supports the fascist regime for just wanting the best for us” angle?

Then go crazy guys. Though even if it does go that way, it still won’t be as Hydra cap. Because at least it’s still only a elseworld.  Which is like the worst consolation prize ever.

Your wife is hot part 2 - Bruce Wayne x Reader

Summary : The Justice League is coming over at Wayne’s mansion for a barbecue…

Someone asked for a part two, so here’s a part two …Hope you’ll enjoy :s

Part one

(My masterlist blog here :

You didn’t really expect the Leaguers to take you up on your barbecue offer…but they did. And this times, they were all here. Fortunately, Wayne mansion’s garden was massive. And with multiple trips to shops, Alfred you and your boys were able to bring enough food of all kind that it was all good.

Except that you were stressed, yet again. So many superheroes in the same place, wasn’t it a bit of bad luck ? Like asking for a catastrophe to happen ? Oh my God, what if a major world threat arrived in your garden and started to destroy everything ?

You felt an arm go around your shoulder, and, instantly recognizing it, you wrapped your own arm around his waist.

Bruce. Your Bruce. You snuggle into his side.

-Are you nervous again ?

-Is that this obvious ?

-Only to me, I know you darling.

You smiled to him and went on your tip toe to kiss him. Even on your tippy toes though, you were too short and he bent forward to meet your lips. Fucking giant man.

-It’s going to be alright. They know they should leave you alone, they might be all more powerful than me physically, but they know better than to actually piss me off. You know, I got plans to take them down.

Princess of Themyscira: Part 5

AN: I’m just going to put this right here… .try not to hate me too much …

Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four

Often, your days on Themyscira were filled with training; both mental and physical. You could often be found running with your sisters, or practicing with your bow. When you were resting, reading, you could be found up in a tree; letting the breeze dance across your skin.

In the three years since you’d come to Themyscira, you’d grown out of your awkwardness and into an Amazon Princess. You were strong, and you could fight. More often than not you were praised for your grace. Which is why, when you fall out of a tree while reading, and pop your arm out of its’ socket you’re more than a little embarrassed.

Artemis teases you about it for days. Even worse, you’re forbidden from any physical combat. Instead you spend time playing strategy games with Io. Still, the sound of swords clashing calls your name. Io reads you like a book. With a smile, she begins packing up the game, before you walk to the stadium together.

The rest of your friends are already there, you sit in the center of the group and listen to the conversation as you watch the fight. They only gain your full attention when they start talking about you, “She’s only been down for a few days and she’s already itching to get back in the ring.”

You smirk at Artemis, “Enjoy your break while you can, I’ll be kicking your butt again soon enough.”

Your sister smirks back, “The little princess has gotten cocky.”

           “I learned from the best.”

There’s laughter, before a voice cuts through, “I would agree.”

Your sister’s bow their heads as your grandmother approaches. Io makes room for her to sit next to you, and she takes your hand in hers, “You are your mother’s daughter, my little moon and stars.”

You smile, “And my grandmother’s granddaughter.”

She laughs, “Also very true.” She pauses, “I see the longing in your eyes, your desire to be on that field, so I am proud of you for listening to the physician’s orders of rest.”

You smile, “I doubt I could take anyone with a bum shoulder any way.”

Calyce smiles, “She’s too modest our queen. She has very quickly become one of the best.”

Your group sits in silence for several minutes before the sound of a horn hits your ears. As a group, your heads turn towards the beach. You see anger in your grandmother’s eyes as she orders you, “Return to the palace.”

Before you can ask what’s going on, they’re running. You watch as they grab their weapons and race towards the shores of the island, your grandmother leading the charge. You watch them go without a word, knowing better than to question her when she uses that tone.

You slowly make your way back to the palace, hoping for some news or some idea of what’s going on. Instead, the palace guards find you and escort you to your room. You scowl as you close the door, and race to the window.

You do your best to see something over the trees, when you feel someone’s breath hit the back of your neck. Spinning you throw a punch with your bad arm and immediately regret it. You wince as you meet sparkling eyes.

Your own go wide, and your mouth opens and closes several times, before his name comes out of your mouth, “Bart?”

He smiles and says, “Hey there Pretty Bird.”

You smile as you throw your arms around him in a hug. His arms wrap around you, before he picks you up off the ground and swings you around. You can’t help but smile.

Pulling back, you ask, “What are you doing here? My family, are they here too? What happened with the war?”

He pulls you in for another hug, “Let me enjoy the moment for a second Pretty Bird. It’s been three years.”

You smile and hug him again, before pulling him over to the bed. You watch as Bart’s eyes dart around the room, “It’s a lot different from your room at Wayne Manor. Remember that time your mom caught us making out on your bed?”

You grin at the memory. Bart had been your first boyfriend, but before that he had been your best friend. For some reason the two of you had always clicked.

“This is a different place, and I doubt my sisters will be any happier to see you than my mother was.”

He grins, “You sound like your mom.”

You shrug and sit on the bed, “It’s a way of life around here.”

The two of you sit in silence for several minutes before you ask again, “What happened to my family, Bart?”

He’s silent, but he continues to hold your hand, “It’s funny, I keep thinking that if I let go of you, you’re going to disappear. Like you’re not really here. I missed you Pretty Bird.”

You squeeze his hand, “I missed you too Bart, but I need to know.”

He sighs, “Let me start by saying that the war is over, and we won … at a price. We’ve lost most of the league, and half of the team … including your mother.” You don’t realize that tears are streaming from your eyes until Bart reaches up and wipes them away. “The first major attack took out most of the League. Your mom led the charge, and it was a long and dirty fight. Lots of blood, and just horrible. I still have nightmares about it. We lost your mom, my grandpa, several lanterns, Green Arrow, and a lot more. But it provided the turning point we needed.”

Bart’s grip on your hand tightens and he says, “The next major strike bought our victory, but it cost us even more. We lost Artemis, Conner, and L’agann.”

You swallow before asking, “What about my brothers.”

He smiles, “They’re alive, but at a cost.” You nod and he continues, “Dick is alive, but he’s not himself. He’s serious all the time and he rarely leaves the cave. Tim is paralyzed from the waist down thanks to a shrapnel attack. Jason is okay, blind in one eye, but he’s still Jason. No one’s seen Damian since the whole thing ended though.”

Your voice is husky, “When was that?”

“A year and a half ago. We’ve been swamped with cleanup and rebuilding. No one knew how to find you, until your parent’s lawyer contacted Alfred. You mom left behind instructions, and a will among other things.”

You nod several times, trying to absorb the information, Bart places a hand on your shoulder, gaining your attention, “She left some stuff to you. Important stuff.”

Slowly you ask, “What important stuff?”

He shrugs, “Not sure, Alfred has it.”

           “And where is Alfred?”

           “Bart.” You warn.

“On the beach with what remains of the team and league.”

You groan, before pulling him to his feet, “Let’s go.” He knows better than to argue, as he picks you up and carries you to the beach. It feels like old times as you watch your surrounding zoom by. It really reminds you of old times when Bart trips on the sand and sends you flying.

You land with a crash, hitting your bad arm as you go. You grind your teeth to keep from screaming, as you push yourself to your feet. You’re very aware of just how quiet things are, as you stand and turn to face the two major factions of your life.

Your eyes scan both crowds, before they land on someone you never thought you’d see again. He’s standing near the shoreline, his dress shoes scuffed with sand, and looking far too out of place in his suit.

Still you can’t help but smile as you race for him. You can feel your sisters’ eyes on you as you throw your arms around the man you think of as a grandfather. His arms return the hug immediately. “Oh Ms Y/N it is so good to see you.”

You take in his scent of mint and cigars and smile, “I missed you so much Alfred.”

           “And I you.”

The clearing of a throat has you turning to stare at Jason. He’s dressed in his red hood gear, minus the helmet. He looks older, and the white of his blind eye is a clear indicator to what the war had done. Then he smiles and years seem to melt away as you throw yourself into his arms.

He squeezes you tight before lifting you up and swinging you around, “I missed you something fierce squirt.”

           “I missed you too Jaybird.”

He smiles, and let’s go before turning you to face someone new, and says, “He missed you too.”

You stand in shock for several minutes. You’d never seen anyone other than your father in the suit, and Dick …well Dick looks so much like him in that moment that it hurts. He doesn’t open his arms to you, and that’s your first sign that something is wrong.

Slowly, you make your way to him, before stopping right in front of him. You raise your hands to either side of the cowl, and he grips your wrists to stop you. Softly you say, “You were never meant to be him Dick. You don’t belong in the dark, you belong in a spotlight. You don’t have to be him.”

Slowly, his fingers loosen, and you peel back the cowl. His face is the same, but his hair is a bit shaggy. You brush it out of his face and stare into his eyes. You see it there. He’s so tired of losing people, and in so much pain that it nearly overwhelms you. You pull him in for a hug, and slowly he reciprocates. His forehead leans against your shoulder and you feel the tears drip onto your skin.

When he starts crying, you do too, because both your lives are different. You’ve both lost some of the people dearest to you. Your world has changed, and as much as you may wish, there’s no way to change things back.

Being Best Friends with Damian Wayne, Jon Kent & Billy Batson Headcanons

A/N: I tried to get it all accurate, even did some research.

Being best friends with Billy Batson / Shazam, Damian Wayne / Robin and Jon Kent / Superboy would include:

> Being best friends with Damian to begin with and that was hard work as it was. You didn’t need anymore hassle but of course, the world had other plans.

> Meeting Jon next when Superman and Batman introduce him to Damian and yourself since you were nearly always together.

> Hearing about their extracurricular activities early on and thinking it was cool at first before realising all the trouble that came with it.

> Getting to visit the Watchtower and being left with Shazam whilst Batman, Superman and their juniors went to discuss a mission. After half an hour, Shazam thinks you’re amazing and clearly trustworthy based on your friends.

> Drags you off to show you something, and suddenly he’s not Shazam anymore, he’s a boy round about your age if not a little older.
“You’re not even -!”
“YOU’RE A -” The stranger clamping a hand over your mouth before you can finish.
“I’m Billy Batson, can you not reveal my identity to the whole Watchtower?!”
“Sorry, it was unexpected. (Y/n) (L/n), best friend of Robin and Jon apparently.”

> Damian coming back to his best friend bonding with Shazam and being kinda jealous. How many people was he going to have to share his best friend with?
“You better visit me in Gotham!”
“Count on it (y/n).”
“I cannot leave you alone for 5 minutes…” Robin muttered, soon joined by Jon.

> Regular visits from Billy and becoming best friends in record time.
“Technically you’re the youngest member of the Justice League.”
“I know right, too bad only Batman, yourself and probably Robin know that.”
“If you look it at my way, you’re fooling nearly the whole Justice League whilst working alongside them. That’s pretty badass.”

> Being ditched more times than you can count by all of them. They’ve got hero work to do after all.

> When Damian and Jon have to team up, they regretfully leave you to your own devices.
Calling you soon after to make sure you’re ok.
“It’s Damian, are -”
“Put (y/n) on speaker would you?” Damian sighing but doing as Jon asked.
“Where are you? We just got back.”
“Well I’m sorry but someone had to cover for you idiots!”

> Being the master of cover stories at school, activities or on trips. The boys actually growing concerned about how good you’ve become.

> Occasionally using the cover stories to take revenge.
“(Y/n)?! I did not eat too many chilli dogs and get… you know! I was called in.”
“That’s what you get for ditching me without a message telling me that you can’t make it Batson.”
“I bet you’ve never done this to Robin.”
“Why do you think I text every time I have to cancel Batson?” Robin responded, amused by the current situation.

> Saving on bus fair because 2 of your best friends can literally fly you to wherever you need to go if they’re not busy.
“We’ve got to get to Gotham to meet Damian so I better go.”
“I’ll fly us over, don’t worry (y/n).”
“Are you sure, it’s kind of a long way.”
“No problem, Superman’s son remember?”
“Then we’ll stop off at the sweet shop first.”
“To get donuts for a mid flight snack to give you more energy. Yes, I know you get it from the sun but still, they’ll help.”
“Thanks (y/n).”

> Being held hostage this one time at the age of 17. Penguin thinking you’re of interest to Robin since he visits you every other night.
“I’ve got you’re little lover here Robin, and I’m going to need a way to kill Batsy if you want them back.”
“Oh oh - hah no! Robin is my friend!”
“That’s what they all say little birdie but I’m betting he’s your boyfriend.” Penguin cackled to himself.
“Pffft, no wonder you lost your fortune - you suck at betting.” You muttered under your breath.

> Shazam and Superboy coming to your aid alongside Robin.
“Why the hell did your boyfriend bring company?!” Penguin screeched sending his henchmen after them.
“Wait, are you two together?!” Came Jon’s voice.
“Can we focus on saving the hostage for now?” Robin started.
“How do you get yourself into these situations (y/n)?” Shazam commented, smirking at you.
“Having you guys as my best friends, that’s how.”

> Borrowing Billy’s hoodie when he’s not using it because that’s what best friends are for.

> All of them looking out for you in some way or another, you always having their backs if they need it.

> Confiding in all of them and them doing the same, talking about their powers and trying to conquer any of their weaknesses.

> Trying to persuade Damian to tell Billy his identity since Jon has told him and vice versa. You still have a long way to go but you respect Damian’s decision and don’t push him about it.

> Not really hanging out as a group because you all live in different areas and have your own business to attend to. Seeing Damian and Jon as a group on some occasions.

> Getting separate visits from each of them though, but seeing Damian more often as you both live in Gotham and he has been your best friend for the longest.

> Getting woken up in the middle of the night just because they’re your best friends and you won’t kill them.
“Dami, it’s 1am!”
“We’ve been up at later times of the night and I usually check in with you.”

“Jon, isn’t your dad going to wonder where you are?”
“Nah, I wanted to see how you’re doing.”

“You’re way too good at sneaking out Billy.”
“Anything for you (y/n), besides it’s boring back home.”

Head Trauma

A bluepulse OT3 fic

EDIT: For those who would find reading this on Ao3 easier on the eyes, here’s the link: Head Trauma (Ao3 version)

The loud crack was enough to make the team momentarily freeze, their eyes darting skyward to lock on Blue Beetle. For a moment he was spiraling toward the ground, his wings beating unbalanced and irregular. For that split second Impulse felt like his heart stopped. Almost as quickly as it happened he righted himself and flew straight at the meta who had thrown the giant chunk of concrete at his head to take him down quickly and efficiently.

Robin thought for a moment of ordering a tactical retreat, but they were so close to completing the mission, and judging by the way Blue Beetle was making quick work of the situation he was fine. ‘…Finish the mission. Then check in as soon as possible.’

As soon as they had secured the weapons-shipment Robin notified the League and ordered his team to fade back. The moment they had regrouped to wait for pickup from Nightwing, Tim turned to Jaime and spoke. “Are you okay? That sounded like a serious hit.”

All eyes turned to focus on Jaime. His head tilted to the side, but he didn’t armor-down. The look in his eyes was… off.

“Blue?” Bart asked as he darted over to his side.

Gold eyes glanced at Bart, inscrutable, but not hostile or warm. When he spoke it was all too clear that Jaime wasn’t the one speaking. “There is a problem,” he said without Jaime’s accent, “The head trauma is serious. Jaime Reyes is currently unconscious.”

Hal Jordan, Authority, and Thaal Sinestro

So this was originally going to be a reply to an Anon who wanted to talk about Hal’s issues with authority in contrast to Sinestro’s need for control. Instead I wrote an essay. Oops?

So let’s talk about Harold fucking Jordan and his “Issues with Authority”!

I actually find this phrasing kind of ironic, since Hal isn’t the Green Lantern that comes to mind with that phrase. He doesn’t have a problem taking orders, per say, so much as he does with who’s giving them.

In that way, it is very fascinating that his canonical tale of star crossed friendship is with, to quote Anon, “control-freak Sinestro.” In fact, that’s one of the reasons they work so well as a pairing, to be completely frank. They are a very complimentary pair, but not for strictly D/s or control reasons either.

Fair warning: psycho-analysis, head canons, spoilers, and meta discussion to follow.

Batman, Catwoman, and Mind-Wiping Revelations

Remember that time the Justice League did something that was so terrible it made Batman straight up quit the League? I’ll give you a hint: it had something to do with Catwoman, a gross invasion of privacy, and massive abuse of power that would permanently change their lives.

This all really started in Identity Crisis when  it was revealed that after second rate villain Dr. Light had once broken into the watch tower and assaulted Sue Dibny, the wife of Elongated Man. Magician Zatanna at the behest of other members of the League used her magical abilities to mind wipe Dr. Light. The secrets continued to spill when it was revealed that Batman had actually caught them in the act enraged and tried to stop them. Zatanna and the other Leaguers secretly mind-wiped Batman’s memory of the event. Unfortunately Zatanna still hadn’t mastered her abilities at that point and ended up radically changing Dr. Light’s personality, and it’s implied that the mind-wipe caused Batman to have major trust issues. After that the League got a little bit carried away with the mind wiping.

The outcome carried into JLA: Crisis of Conscience. At some point the Secret Society of Super Villains had switched bodies with members of the Justice League and learned about their civilians lives putting their loved ones in danger, and of course Zatanna mind wiped them of the information. Eventually the Secret Society of Super Villains had their memories restored and went for blood.

Batman of course found out and he was pissed. The fallout from such a catastrophic secret divided the League and Batman started avoiding them all together.

So what does this have to do with Catwoman?

Catwoman had just spent the better part of half a decade  becoming a reformed whip wielding anti-heroine and defender of Gotham’s east end. Her relationship with Batman, though brash and unpredictable, seemed to be true. For the first time ever really their relationship was allowed to really develop and Batman made a huge step in pushing the relationship forward by revealing his identity to Catwoman a few years prior. Catwoman is overwhelmingly considered to be Batman’s soul mate a position that DC seemed to be cementing in this era. It was Batman’s moral rigidity that caused him to decline Catwoman’s previous advances towards him. When Catwoman moves closer to morality over her more selfish impulses it allowed Batman to sort of reconcile the two.

Surprise, surprise. It is then revealed that the reason that Batman took the news of the mind wipe so hard was because at one point apparently Catwoman was a member of the Secret Society of Super Villains and another victim of the League’s liberal mind wiping campaign. Now Batman reacted badly when he found out about them mind wiping some B rate villain, imagine how he responded when he found out that it was the woman that he loved.

She didn’t reform because she wanted to: she did it because of magic! Years of character development thrown right out of the window in two pages or less. Ed Brubaker should be pissed and we as the fans should not have to accept that shit as canon.

Doctor Manhattan has just smashed all the DC universes and the TLC universe together. Everyone in the Rampion crew has been scattered all over this new Earth. Who do you think the Rampion crew members would run into along the way of looking for their friends and would there be any epic team-ups or devastating battles?

ALL the DC universes and TLC in one ask? Have I mentioned that I love you?

At least, provided she can evade all the weirdos in costumes that keep beaming on and off the satellite.
