book sayings

Can we please stop blaming Tom Riddle’s descent into evil on Dumbledore? I don’t get why people do this, seriously.
Tom wasn’t abused at his orphanage. Seriously, he was not. Nothing in the books says he was. Even if he was, as Deputy Headmaster it wasn’t Dumbledore’s call to send him back. Admitting Tom into Hogwarts? Again, NOT his call. Admission is the Headmaster’s call and Dumbledore was not Headmaster yet. Dumbledore didn’t guide or nurture him? I see no other teacher get this shit, and Dumbledore was Tom’s teacher, not his babysitter. Nobody should have to hold your hand all the time in order for you to not commit murder. What makes Tom more important than every other child in that school? Yes, Tom needed care just like every other child deserves, he was a kid like everyone else, but it’s not just Dumbledore’s fault! He wasn’t mistreated, because the other teachers adored him. Dumbledore wasn’t the only teacher in the school guys.

Plus, Dumbledore not telling the teachers his suspicions is because he had no proof. He had a suspicion, that’s it. That’s literally all he had. Plus you really think they would’ve believed him?! Dippet didn’t even believe that Tom didn’t open the Chamber, come on now! Speaking of the Chamber, Dumbledore didn’t witness the murder take place. Dippet covered up the incident just like Dumbledore covered up the werewolf one, he had no Pensieve memories nor was he Chief Warlock yet, I’m sure he wasn’t until he defeated Grindelwald. What could he have done really? I have heard people literally say that it’s all on Dumbledore because he didn’t adopt or protect Tom from himself. Are you kidding me?! Dumbledore isn’t this kid’s daddy, peeps. He probably could’ve offered him all the “help” in the world, would it have made any difference?! Maybe, but there’s nothing that guarantees that! Slughorn offered his help to set up helpful connections with high ranking people who could have mentored him, we have proof of that. Tom didn’t want it. Dumbledore didn’t rob him of his free will, Tom could have turned from the dark any time he wanted. He CHOSE not to. Dumbledore didn’t create Voldemort, Voldemort created himself, he’s the way he is because he WANTED to be. It’s nobody’s fault but Tom’s, especially not Dumbledore’s. So stop. What’s next, are we going to blame him for the murders GG committed during the first war? Oh wait……

PS: Dumbledore fake setting Tom’s wardrobe on fire doesn’t mean anything. People lose their entire homes in real fires and don’t become mass murderers.

The London is a deal breaker thing maybe comes from people pushing for a ga pm relationship saying that (in her book I assume) she says the two most important qualities in a partner are kindness and availability? And apparently those two things point to pm and not dd. 🙄🙄🙄

I don’t know about PM, but I know David is kind and probably more available that we think. Is it a complete coincidence that he lives in LA most of the time, and flies to NY every time Gillian goes there? Maybe. But maybe not.

Do you have any recommendations for books about self-love? I read a lot of "self help" books that say to love yourself, but not HOW to.

You can heal your life by Louise Hay, she also has meditations you can do to: https://soundcloud.com/kris_carr/louise-hay-experience-your

But yeah you need to be doing meditations and yoga, otherwise you’ll just become one of these people who preach self-love, yet your actions will contradict. You need to be focusing on higher self-love, not just love of the physical because the body is only temporary an illusion, so that’s the last thing you want to identify with. I think true self-love only comes from the grace of God, everything else is ultimately just ego. Only God knows your soul, so only God can show you your soul, no book, no affirmations alone will do that for you. You can’t be spiritually developed without Spirit itself, that’s just nonsensical 🤷🏽‍♀️only by knowing the one whom created us do we know ourselves. So usually seeking to know God and learning how much God loves the soul is usually more than enough for one to know how to love themselves. I think there’s only so much self-help books can do, after awhile they prove themselves to be limited. God fills one with unending joy, bliss, love and wisdom 😊🌹❤

Linguists as parents

Partee 2010: In fact, in the literature on prototype theory, one can observe that many of the reported experiments on judgments of prototypicality are carried out with pictures of objects rather than actual objects, but all of the language of the experiments and of the discussion of the experiments refers to the corresponding objects, not to pictures of objects. And normally we don’t even notice; starting with our children and their picture books, we say things like,  “Where’s the doggy? There’s the doggy!” Presumably no normal parent would say “Where’s the picture of the doggy? There’s the picture of the doggy!”

Linguist parent: *reading* … Hm! Interesting fact!

Linguist parent: *two hours later with own child* Where’s the picture of the doggy? *waiting axious the answer of the child*

Can you help me and summarise me what happened between William B Davis and G&D? I think I've lost some passages? 🙏🙏🙏 Thank you!

He basically wrote a book to say how Gillian and David were unprofessional and arrogant. That there was a lot of tension and animosity between them. And then promoted it telling everyone Gillian had done plastic surgery. I don’t know if this idiom exists in English, but in French it’s called “spitting in the soup”.

  • Ravenclaw: There's going to be snow!
  • Sytherin: Yup, enough to bury small animals.
  • Ravenclaw: Why must you be like this?
  • Slytherin: Why are you so excited about it?
  • Ravenclaw: Because now I can sit in front of the fireplace and read books.
  • Slytherin: You do that anyway.
  • Ravenclaw: Yeah, but now there's aesthetic.
