book about cats

I saw Seussical the Musical with @miaoumint last month and so many things about the Cat in the Hat character reminded me of the Once-ler, from the coattails to the body language. Soooo naturally I felt inspired to draw him in the Cat’s outfit. :P

Freckles form a line around your face
And I get lost when I try to find my way
And I start to tumble down
Pick me back up off the ground

Quiz: What Political Issue Inspired These Dr. Seuss Books?
Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, is famous all over the world for his iconic children's books and illustrations. But what most people don't know is that a lot of his stories are inspired by complex political issues.

Happy birthday, Dr. Seuss! Do you know what political issues inspired some of his most famous children’s books? Test your knowledge (and maybe learn a thing or two) with our quiz!

have you ever thought about kara writing books about fairy tales from krypton and mythology and just bits and pieces that she remembers because she was only 12, or maybe 13, there were so many stories that she’s never had the opportunity to forget what she even knows about so many stories, think of the history you knew as a 13 year old and the history you know now, they’re different, but kara still remembers some, and just imagine kara publishing a series of children’s novels, and with her art skills she’s able to capture the ‘mythological’ creatures right on the cover.

so instead of going to catco, she becomes a writer. and she just finished the latest manuscript and it’s really popular, the latest book going through revisions, when her editor gets a call from one Cat Grant, who wants the newest book for her son and kara’s just a little bit in awe because this is cat grant, queen of all media, but she’s a bit possessive of her stories (her culture, her childhood, parts of krypton she’s half making up at this point because the things you forget after a decade and every time it hurts so much to write but she loves these stories, wants everyone to love them like she does and they’re a piece of her, part of why it takes her so long to release them is because of her emotional attachment to them. All she has left is her stories, and her memories.

So she agrees, but conditional on meeting for lunch. And Cat agrees, of course she does, like this is a double windfall, because no one even knows what the K.Z. Danvers looks like, and here’s a chance to have the book ahead of time, and an interview (she’s cat grant-she’ll convince k.z. danvers to let her publish it)

and she goes to the coffee shop early, of course she does, cat knows information is power, she’s going in as prepared as she can, after all this is for her son (she’s cat grant, of course it can’t be known that she enjoys reading children’s novels, even if they are extraordinary, both the concept and execution).

but nothing can compare to her surprise when she’s approached by a beautiful blonde girl in her early 20′s holding one of those concoctions, more sugar than caffeine, a sunny smile on her face and god she’s so young to be the k.z. danvers, she couldn’t have been more than 19 during the first book’s publication, but she’s wearing that necklace the publisher texted to Cat so there wouldn’t be any mistakes and she has the bluest eyes and oh, there’s a dimple, she’s such a sucker for dimples oh no, she wasn’t expecting this. “Miss Grant? My name is Kara Danvers. I believe you’ve been expecting me.”

First Story: Snake loves child, mother kills snake.

Second Story: Snake loves child, snake commits suicide.

Third Story: Snake makes bad joke with child, lives.

There’s a SNAKES ON A PLANE joke in here somewhere, but I have too much dignity to look for it.

Truthfully, this is a story about a cat house. No, not that kind of cat house. The Miller’s Boy sets off on an adventure to find his father a horse, and all he finds is a cat. A talking cat. Who has cat servants attend to her. So naturally, the cat comes to an agreement to have the boy work for her for seven years. This must be what cat ladies’ dreams are made of! The story goes on to describe what happens and how the boy ends up marrying a princess, but all I could think about was whether or not the Miller’s Boy was allergic to cats and how awful the experience must have been if so. Cat dander…everywhere.

Apparently the rivalry between tailors and shoemakers can get brutal. The two travel together, but the shoemaker despises the jolly tailor. Unfortunately, the tailor doesn’t plan for the trip very well, and comes very near death by starvation. The shoemaker agrees to give him food, but takes payment in the form of removing the tailors eyes (shiver). The tailor gets his eyes back however, by washing them in the magic dew from the bodies of two sinners hanging dead on gallows (double shiver). Creepiness aside, this tale is the first fairy tale I’ve read that confirms the existence of baby-delivering storks. So, out of all the forced marriages and couplings going on in these fairy tales, at least we know where fairy tale babies come from…right? Right?!

The plot of this tale is not nearly as interesting as the description of its hero: Hans the Hedgehog. Hans is a boy who was born half human/half hedgehog; his top half is all hedgehog and his bottom half is all boy. He lives in the woods tending a herd of swine. He plays beautiful music on the bagpipes. His loyal steed is a rooster. Now imagine that guy charging a castle gate, spines out. It’s something straight out of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Also: The images of this guy are glorious. Thank you, internet!

if ur in a relationship and someone gives u the first warriors book as a present just know that this is basically the equivalent to a marriage proposal bc they are planning to guide u through 40+ books about fighting cats

anonymous asked:

What are these 'warior cats'?

oh you precious, pure, innocent creature, untainted by the cruel world of Warriors……

so here’s the wikipedia run-down to start off

basically warriors is this huge ass clusterfuck about these feral cats that live in a colony in a forest comprised by four (five) clans. they have a hierarchy and territory and roles and stuff and everything. it’s actually really interesting. it’s composed (at the current time) of six sub-series along with a ton of other special edition books and other content and whatnot. and it’s getting a movie produced by david heyman, the producer of the harry potter movies! which… is arguably the best and worst thing to happen to warriors,,,, a movie is either going to be massively great or terribly awful.

but yeah back to the main point. long ass book series about cats. i started reading it in 2004.

here you have the six series + the blanket title of all the super editions. there are also these weird manga adaptations (yikes) and some really awesome field guides, along with some novellas. all of which add to the world and lore that is warrior cats.

also some of the official art is pretty as heck. here, have my favorite characters: ivypool and hollyleaf.

there’s a ton of fan content that’s really great, too. from fan art to fan fiction to amv/pmv/maps on youtube, etc. everything you could ever want or need the fandom provides. if you want to see some really rad fanart, check out my favorites: @climbstudio, @nmirah, and @oakyhearts. there are a ton of really, really talented content creators out there.

basically warriors is worse than pjo/hoo hell. i’m not kidding. i’ve been in this cat hell since 2004. that’s 13 years. 13 years of cat hell. no one else can get on this level. at all. i swear it. because one you’re in you can’t get out. it’s worse than anything else. all you think about, talk about, and breathe is cats. to the point where people have learned about cat genetics just for the sake of pointing out inaccuracies in warriors and being smarter than the people who write the books.

the books are great but they also suck. so many issues and plot holes and characters that get fucked up and you wouldn’t even understand most of what i would attempt to explain since you haven’t read them. just know weird shit happens. all the time.

also there used to be an official message board for it, and that was rad. from 2009 to 2016 existed this crazy realm where people talked about cats and stuff. (RIP now that it’s shut down.)

this is the original skin of it (it changed a couple times over the years) and i was on it from the beginning. this place sucked you in even worse by connecting you hardcore and officially to other cat hellions like yourself. i was actually part of a group that got titled the “ootsians”, and we recently all reconnected after drifting apart for a couple of years. it’s been one Hell of an experience, let me tell you. but really i’m thankful for it—i love my friends.

there’s a new, unofficial message board now, too, which i have an account on but since i’m behind on the books i don’t go on much.

basically, once you get in, you can never get out. like i said, i’ve been stuck here for thirteen years and i’m dead. i have no soul. cat hell has taken over my life. RIP in fuckn pieces.

this is way more than you asked for but this doesn’t even skim the surface, anon. warriors is more than a book series about cats. it’s a culture and a lifestyle. and i hate myself for loving it.

anonymous asked:

The three waycastles to the Eyrie are named Stone, Sky, and Snow. Thoughts? I don't remember in whose POV chapter these 3 was mentioned if it was in Catelyn's or Sansa's. And iirc they were mentioned in that order in the books.

Anon Hello! Sorry for the late reply.  Yes the three castles  of the Eyrie are named Stone, Sky and Snow indeed. I think it could be a reference to Sansa (Alyane Stone), Jon (Snow) and Bran (who is the most character with bird analogies  and is told that he could fly..). And its no secret how I believe these three characters are crucial to the survival of the Stark name.

In the story those are mentioned two different times: in Catelyn AGOT chapter and in Alayne AFFC one. The order is this (from bottom-up): Stone/Snow/Sky.

But what is interesting to me is how DIFFERENT  these two chapters are. For example Grrm makes Catelyn do the ascent and Sansa the descent. (And makes it clear that one is more hard than the other.)

Alayne’s heart had been in her throat when she made her own ascent with Lady Lysa and Lord Petyr, and everyone agreed that the descent was even more harrowing, since you were looking down the whole time.

In both chapters the wind is linked to a wolf (but in Sansa case it gives her courage to go forward, in Catelyn case it scares her to the point of stopping)

Above Snow, the wind was a living thing, howling around them like a wolf in the waste, then falling off to nothing as if to lure them into complacency.

The wind was howling fiercely. It sounds like a wolf, thought Sansa. A ghost wolf, big as mountains.

Both are told to close their eyes (Sansa doesnt, Catelyn does)

I could close my eyes. The mule knows the way, he has no need of me. But that seemed more something Sansa would have done, that frightened girl. Alayne was an older woman, and bastard brave.

“I don’t want to look.” The world seemed to be spinning around her, mountain and sky and mules, whirling like a child’s top. Catelyn closed her eyes to steady her ragged breathing.

But the most important difference is here: Sansa (accused by half the fandom of being a passive, scared little girl)  is the only active character here, helps Robert  when Mya cant do nothing and is almost falling. While Catelyn stops herself with fear, she cant go on and Mya has to help her. (nothing wrong with showing Catelyn fear, it is a totally normal reaction).

Mya staggered, and for half a heartbeat it seemed as if she would be blown over the precipice, but somehow she regained her balance and went on.

Alayne took Robert’s gloved hand in her own to stop his shaking. “Sweetrobin,” she said,

"I’m scared. Hold my hand, and help me get across. I know you’re not afraid.”

“He looked at her, his pupils small dark pinpricks in eyes as big and white as eggs. “I’m not?

"Not you. You’re my winged knight, Ser Sweetrobin”

“The Winged Knight could fly,” Robert whispered.

“Higher than the mountains.” She gave his hand a squeeze.

“Ser Sweetrobin,” Lord Robert said, and Alayne knew that she dare not wait for Mya to return.

She helped the boy dismount, and hand in hand they walked out onto the bare stone saddle, their cloaks snapping and flapping behind them.

“I’ll come back for you,” Mya said. “Don’t move, my lady.

Moving was about the last thing Catelyn was about to do. She listened to the skirling of the wind and the scuffling sound of leather on stone.

Then Mya was there, taking her gently by the arm. “Keep your eyes closed if you like. Let go of the rope now, Whitey will take care of himself. Very good, my lady. I’ll lead you over, it’s easy, you’ll see. Give me a step now. That’s it, move your foot, just slide it forward. See. Now another. Easy. You could run across. Another one, go on. Yes."

And so, foot by foot, step by step, the bastard girl led Catelyn across, blind and trembling, while the white mule followed placidly behind them.

The most ironic thing is this:

"Some people find it easier if they close their eyes,” Mya said as she led the mules through the gate into the dark wood. “When they get frightened or dizzy, sometimes they hold on to the mule too tight. They don’t like that.”

“I was born a Tully and wed to a Stark,” Catelyn said. “I do not frighten easily.”

And yet the thought of leaving frightened her almost as much as it frightened Robert. She only hid it better. Her father said there was no shame in being afraid, only in showing your fear. "All men live with fear,” he said. Alayne was not certain she believed that.

The one who was scared before starting didnt close her eyes and continued going, The other who wasn’t  frightened in the beginning ended up being blind  trembling and moved along..

(To note how Catelyn makes the connection with Mya and Sansa being both naive young girls, but in the end both are braver than they look).

“Mychel’s my love,” Mya explained. “Mychel Redfort. He’s squire to Ser Lyn Corbray. We’re to wed as soon as he becomes a knight, next year or the year after.

"She sounded so like Sansa, so happy and innocent with her dreams. Catelyn smiled, but the smile was tinged with sadness.
