the next person who brings up the fact that Cameron Boyce is very light skinned (the son of a black man, playing the son of a black woman) but ignores the fact that Booboo Stewart is Korean-Japanese-Chinese-Blackfoot and not Arabian can meet me in the pit
TW: MENTIONS OF R*APE AND MOLESTATION FULL DISCLOSURE: I AM BAD AT EXPRESSING THE THINGS I WANT TO SAY, ESPECIALLY THROUGH WRITING. THE WRITING OF THIS MIGHT BE BAD BUT I AM LOOKING TO START A CONVERSATION ON THIS AND SPREAD AWARENESS.
We often talk about the over sexualization of children as a whole, but most of the conversations are often centered around that of young girls presenting people, while that is an important issues that needs to be talked about it is also important to talk about how young males are often over sexualized.
This subject had first entered my brain when recently on Tumblr there was a gif set going around of BooBoo Steward having his shirt taken off by a grown women on live TV. After looking up the video it was shown that BooBoo taking his shirt off was a ‘prize’ once the telethon reach a certain amount of money. In the video the lady is suppose to take his shirt off (part of the appeal im guessing) but as she does it she says “Im taking my time aint I,” as she feels on Booboos chest. This was used as a joke as the table of grown men tart laughing. He was 16 years old in the video (if my math proves right). In all honesty i couldnt watch the entire video because it made me sick, heres the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GzQZdUU0GE .
While I, a 17 year old nonbinary queer person, can sit here and enjoy the fact that Booboo Steward, a celerity crush of mine, is shirtless. I can not enjoy the fact that a child is being overly sexualized and publically molested (as im sure grouping is not something he signed up for, and if he did he is still a minor). And while it is okay for fans around the same age as him to swoon over his body and fan girl, it is not okay for adults to do so.
This is often seen as a movie trope though: the young male with rippling abs and nice muscle getting the attention of an older women, and sometimes man.
There are plenty of shows out there that are suppose to be set in HS that have grown actors with rippling biceps and hot bodies. Hell there was a whole movie where a kid fucks his teacher and knocks her up. This pushes not only the idea that high schoolers look like this (which is harmful for many different reasons and needs its own conversation for) but it also pushes the idea that its okay to feel sexually attracted to teen boys as long as they have a “mens body”.
This trope is harming in any way as it pushes the idea that age does matter, especially for boys, as well as being harmful to male victims of sexual assault. Males, of all ages, are told that they want to have sex even when they know they arent, and that no matter what if a women wants to have sex with him he must consent.
I could go on talking about this subject but like i stated before im a bad writer. The things i try to say come out in a jumbled mess, especially when im talking about serious subjects that get me emotional. Please use this pot as a platform to talk about this subject. This is a problem we need to address and have handled. Im going to need all the ‘menist’ to address this subject instead of just sitting on femenist post talking about how everyone is equal.
Booboo walked into a skateboard shop to fix his broken skateboard when he saw a guitar in the back. He asked the guy if he taught. He said, “No, but I can teach you.” And he taught him how to play. Booboo has been playing guitar for approximately eight years now.
