Second Violin Lesson

And today, my instructor asked me something that really hit me hard.

“What’s your goal?”

I was honestly confused. I didn’t have a goal. I just wanted to learn. And I thought about other things I have tried with no real goal in sight. Whether it was gym, bonsai, learning a new language, or art; I never had a real goal.

I mean, some people say “do it for you,” but that just never really sticks to me. I look at these bodybuilders, and I want to be their size, but their goal is to get huge and win competitions. A physical manifestation of their goal.

Artists want to be part of a cartoon or animation. Bonsai artists seek to win bonsai exhibits. Violinists want to play for an orchestra or band.

Me? No real specific goal.

It’s giving me a lot to think about now. I need time to think.
