Was it a Dream or a Memory?

  • The Great Punjab hotel in Mumbai offers cheap accomodation only for men. The building is a relic of british era famously known as, ‘Jer Mahal’. It has balconies overlooking the entire city, propelling one guest at a time toward their dreams.

Thatalternativekid's Best Albums of 2014

Creating the following list was particularly challenging for me given just how diverse the spectrum of music created in 2014 was. New artists such as FKA twigs and Lake Street Dive blurred the lines between genres while seasoned veterans like St. Vincent and The Black Keys reimagined their role in the music world. On the albums Goddess and I Never Learn, earnest and pleading vocals took center stage, whereas on Alvvays and Salad Days, the focus was more on the aesthetically-pleasing and sentimental tunes. Lyrically, Sharon Van Etten and Run the Jewels broke new ground, bringing deep emotions to the table and raising up new issues for discussion. In addition, the mellow music of Jenny Lewis and Future Islands was reminiscent of times when the world was less complicated, and music more pure. In this past year musicians showed us that no matter what crazy happenings take place in the world around us, music will always be there to take us back to a place of peace, humanity, and beauty.

YOUR GUIDE TO:

Writing non-stereotypical, realistic character biographies for South Asian characters. I’ll be focusing on Indians, since that’s what I’m most familiar with, but I’ll touch on other South Asian peoples as well.

WHY YOU NEED THIS GUIDE:

I rarely see South Asian characters, and too often they are flat and stereotypical. They all speak Hindi, they’re all scientists and IT guys, and I see the same faceclaims used over and over representing a part of India they actually aren’t from.

WHAT MAKES ME QUALIFIED:

I’m Indian. I lived there until I was nine years old, and I’m fluent in two different Indian languages, which also happen to be the two most commonly spoken languages in the country. I’m well traveled there as well: I’ve been from the Southern most tip to the Northwest and Northeast as well.

WHAT YOU WILL FIND UNDER THE CUT:

Tips on naming the characters, on fleshing out their backstories, an overview of major historical events, stereotypes to avoid at all costs, and a list of faceclaims that I’d like to see more of in the roleplay world.

-sella artigianale in pelle bicolore, scamosciata e nera
