body donated to science

A city where necromancy is legal and actually a part of every day society.

So long as you follow a specific set of laws to make it seem a bit more ethical, you’re allowed to use it to do anything from helping you in a fight, to helping you run your business. In fact, there are entire shops or restaurants where the staff are undead.

Laws to handle the undead could be things like:
• The corpses used cannot have flesh on them for sanitary reasons, especially in the case of businesses. Those who raise undead who are more than just bone will face a fine dependent on their situation.
• Similar to how people can donate their bodies to science, or donate their organs to those in need, people can choose to donate their bodies to necromancers before their death.
• If it is unknown if a person wished for their body to be donated after death, and they have been dead for 150+ years, you’re allowed to raise them. If next of kin is still alive, you must get permission from them first.
• You must take care of the undead in your charge. Keep them clean and unbroken. If one of them starts to get too much wear and tear, you are required by law to respectfully lay them back down to rest. Failure to do this will get you a hefty fine.

Another humans are weird Post

If we really are the only  one of the few  races that has so much internal war and do shady things then what would they think of modern medicine?

Like, we’ve mentioned some Aliens might regenerate so what might they think of death, they wouldn’t necessarily pursue medicine.

Humans have a self awareness and enough narcissism that we adore learning our history, our evolution, we’re scientists and doctors are arguably the most respected professionals on Earth. If a building has a red cross on it we don’t bomb it, even if we’re at war.

So what if our medicine is like, so advanced that other aliens are genuinely suprised that this tiny planet that’s so young and has so little technological advances has medicine that is years away from what they have?

Think about it, most of our advancements in medicine is because of our own wars, or because a doctor has tortured and experimented on them or just by accident and instead of denying it because of the means, we’ve just gone “oh well, let’s research it humanely from now on, maybe?”

And like, that post about food, and bacteria. Like, our antibiotics is basically mold? I can imagine alien doctors being like “Woah! This is a sterile place, Human Doctor Sarah. Your contaminated experiments should go in the clean room” And Human Dr Sarah just being like ??? “it’s penicillin”

A few other things Medi-Aliens might freak out about:

  • “You learnt human anatomy by using corpse?”
  • “You used to have open theatre surgery?”
  • “So how did you guys invent vaccines?” (And pause for the “he did what to children!?”
  • “Wait,  why is the weaponised sleeping agent ‘Chloroform’ in the medicine section?”
  • “What does ‘donate my body to science’ mean”?
Shakespeare Characters Saying 30 Rock quotes

Macbeth: Your boos are not scaring me. I know most of you are not ghosts.

Friar Laurence: Science is my most favourite subject, especially the Old Testament.

Lady Macbeth: There’s only three things standing between you and winning: your breasts, and wanting it bad enough.

Ariel: I don’t think it’s fair for me to be on a jury because I’m a hologram.

Mercutio: Tell her you want to donate her body to science and you’re science.

Richard II: There is no problem in this world that can’t be solved by throwing money at it.

Henry V: When you’re handsome nobody ever tells you the truth. For years I thought I spoke excellent French.

Olivia: Listen up, fives. A ten is speaking.

Timon: Goodbye forever, you factory reject dildos.

Okay, but have I ever told anyone about this Urban Fantasystuck AU I have?

·         Megidos- ghosts or mediums, there are technically two AUs because of that

·         Nitrams- Reverse Minotaurs/Bull Centaurs

·         Captors- Naga People

·         Vantases- Vampires

·         Leijons- Cat People

·         Maryams- Vampires

·         Pyropes- Dragon People

·         Serkets- Spider People

·         Zahhaks- Centaurs

·         Makaras- Incubi

·         Amporas- Sea-Centered Storm Spirits

·         Pexies- Mermaids

But it’s my personal favorite type of Urban fantasy, which means:

·         All the species are intermingled and living together and magic is as common as technology

·         There are completely new cultures and the cities themselves are alive with magic and wildlife and have personalities of their own

·         The citizens take care of their cities by cleaning them up and not littering and decorating them with gardens and chalk drawings and the out-of-control forces of nature creeping in, there’s ivy on every building

·         The cities in turn take care of them, buildings sheltering people on the sidewalk from the rain and roads swallowing up would-be criminals

·         You walk down the street and a deer walks beside you, unafraid and content, it’s hooves clicking against the pavement

·         Squirrels and rabbits hop from mini-clearing-alley to mini-clearing alley, disappearing into the tall green grass and strong trees as the sound from a brook washes over you

·         A selkie plays in the fountain in the town square, and children of all ages and species jump in with her to escape the summer heat

·         Peddlers are standing in booths in the city market, selling jewelry and clothing and blankets and other suck homemade things, enchanted with protection spells and glamours and things

·         Cat lovers put charms on their kitty’s collar to keep her safe as she roams the city and also keeps her from activating anyone’s allergies so she get pets from anyone she wants

·         Clubs for magic at schools!! Magic Boy/Girl Scouts! To be an Eagle Scout or get the Girl Scout Gold Award you must have at least one alchemy merit badge and one or more of the four Elemental Merit badges

·         A little girl gardening with her dad learns that if she concentrates really hard she can make the plants grow faster and thats how her family find out they have some wood nymph in them

·         PTA meetings with all manner of species there to make sure their kids are learning all about everyone correctly

·         Parents teach their children that it’s okay to have a crush on someone even if they’re not the same species as you, it’s perfectly okay and natural and okay and yes Jackson, even if he’s a boy werewolf and you’re a boy vampire

·         The school lunch lady is a witch who makes healthy and delicious lunches

·         The school security is a pack of baby griffins

·         You are required two years of magical study; if you scare an A in both, have a recommendation from a teacher, and passed the AP exam, you can take a remedial –mancy study

·         Every sport must allow magical beings to participate, to a point. Water nymphs and merfolk have their own swim teams. Centaurs have their own track league

·         Schools and workplaces must have an indoor garden for plant people to rest in

·         Speacking of workplaces, there are specific jobs and activities and such created to help magical beings with special needs

·         There are blood drives for vampires

·         There are places for summoning spirits so you can speak to loved ones or study for a history exam/project. The public library has a heavily charmed, dark back corner where you can summon any ghost who gave up their body for public use (volunteer sacrifices, donated to science, organ donors, ingridiants for rare spells) and decided to stay in the library to continue to help people. After seven p.m. the ghosts can use the library for themselves and walk around freely

·         Hotels where people help incubi and succubi feed off of their sexual energy and these hotels are clean and cozy and have all manner, both magical and mundane, of protections against STDs and pregnancy and sexual assault

·         Incubi and succubi often work at health clinics

·         Devil/Demon lawyers

·         With the good, however, also comes the bad

·         People get addicted to all kinds of magic and magical herbs, which in too high an amount can have effects never intended

·         With all kinds of species comes all kinds of racism and specism that people have to conquer and get over

·         People use their powers and magic for ill intent; mind control in particular gains a bad reputation

The best part of this AU is that it doesn’t even have to be a Homestuck AU it can stand on its own and I really love it okay

all the thanks to @creative-classpect for helping me flesh it out more with the world building and also figuring out a species for the Amporas

“Would you like to donate your body to science?”

Dr. River and their Blasters. They are just some of the many weapons they created to help protect monsters from humans, and better their odds if another war happened. Eventually they give three of the blasters to others for summons and keep one for themself.

i was asked by @misfitreindeer to make a post about skeletons and debunk a lot of typical transphobic myths about how, y’know, females look like X and males look like Y and that everything works in 100% black in white but it doesn’t actually

and it’s important to know that while i’m an anthropology student, my main focus has been on forensic anthropology so we’re not talking about cavemen here. we’re talking about anatomically modern humans. (although i do know a little about cavemen because my overall degree will be in anthropology)

i’ve taken most of my classes focusing on the actual bones, i’ve worked with actual human bones, a lot of which were people who had been murdered, some which were still under investigation. i’m entering my 2nd term of my junior year as i’m making this post and the only forensic anthro/anthro classes i have left to take are ones that aren’t my field (cultural/linguistic anthropology, museum curation, working on dig sites with archaeology students) and a shitload of chemistry.

so while yes i don’t have my degree yet i’m studying this right now, i’m learning the newest available information at my university, and i’m asking a lot of questions because i’m so fascinated by this field

so i’m going to just give you a gigantic infodump of what i know. i’ll also put up pics of bones, not graphic scary things i promise.

Yesterday I lost one of the strongest and bravest persons I have ever known. Endless battles and survivals. Always a fighter, never a victim. My hero and my inspiration. The person I looked up to since day one. My motivation to succeed. My number one fan. Everything I do, I will do for you. Everywhere I go, I will carry you in my heart. I should have told you these things sooner. I took you, your love, and your laughter for granted. It shouldn’t be this way. I should be coming home to see your smile, to hold you in my arms, and tell you I love you. There are no words to describe the amount of love and admiration I have for you. I can’t bring myself to say goodbye. I just can’t believe this is reality. My only hope is that you are free and at peace. No more pain, no more suffering. My courageous, strong, and loving big brother. My hero, my protector. I can’t say goodbye, not yet. I love you, Dalton. More than you could have ever imagined.

Friends - please tell your loved ones how much you love them. I know this is said over and over again but yesterday I learned the tragic reality that at any given moment, the worst thing can happen. I am beside myself and cannot believe I have lost my big brother. I love you all endlessly. We have all lost an incredible person. My heart is broken. I am broken. But if there is anything Dalton has taught me, it’s how to fight, stay strong, and persist.

Dalton was recently turned 25 and had been struggling with brain cancer. Sadly enough, it wasn’t the cancer that got him, it was a seizure. Dalton was also born with a bone disease called Ollier’s Disease and since day one faced a lifelong battle of mental and physical health. Dalton has donated his body to science in hopes that he can save a life. Because of his generosity and hopes of saving a life, we won’t be having a burial but are still moving forward with holding a ceremony, as well as having a marked memorial site so friends and family can celebrate his life and cherish the moments we all shared with him. If you are able to help out, I am accepting donations via my PayPal at lexiraelaraine@yahoo.com.

Dalton was such a very kind and gentle soul. I loved him so very much and can’t believe I will never be able to see him or hold him again. He was doing so well and finally feeling so happy. He was headed toward living the kind of life he’s always deserved and wanted to live. I can’t thank you all enough for the love. I’ve received an outpouring of messages from friends and family sending their condolences, as well as messages about times they had spent with my brother. Dalton had so much love to give. The world has lost a beautiful, beaming spirit, but his memory, his strength, his courage, and his love, will live on forever.

The bell rang in your hand, a man stopped in front of you and placed a few dollar bills into the donation can.

“Thank you sir! The kids at the local group home appreciate it!” You smiled at him and waved as he walked away. You had been out in front of the Macy’s for an hour now, collecting money to buy Christmas presents for the kids at Maybelle, a group home for young children. People were feeling rather generous, being the holidays and all, because you had collected far more than you expected.

“Donations for children!” you called out to the people walking by. Your cell phone buzzed in your jacket pocket. It was a text message from your boss asking how it was going. You quickly responded with, “Good, but it’s cold!”

“Holy smokes, you are hot!”

A man’s voiced pulled your eyes from the cell. You had to do a double take when you saw the man dressed up in a black and red suit, along with a matching mask.

Anna Analyzes: Chronological De-ageing

In which Anna discusses the implications behind what we saw the Chronological De-ager accomplish in the episode ‘Backward to School Night’

We all saw that part where the science class skeleton came to life when zapped right? That has some interesting implications; both for the school (having an actual skeleton) and in our understanding the device.

Cavendish says it reduced their ages 90%, and Milo says their parents are all three. Dakota doesn’t look older than five, so that mulches my original age estimations.

[However, I got a good reference for Cavendish’s height, (originally estimated as 6'7" based on the assumption that Milo was 5’ even, but now that I’ve seen him stand in a doorway I think he’s actually 6'5" and Milo’s 4'10")]

Back to Chronological de-aging; Dakota zapped a bookcase too, and turned it to a living tree… which that alone would have showed that you can restore non-sentient life with said device…

Then he zapped the skeleton. And the entire game changed. They brought a dead guy back to life, one who seemed to know that he had died. If the 90% de-aged thing applies to him too, he didn’t die all that long ago. (30ish years, give or take)

I mention this because it was actually legal to have a human cadaver as a learning tool (bones and skeletons etc.) in medical schools like 100 years ago, but they outlawed that after some medical students actually started digging up cadavers.

You could get someone to donate their body to science or whatever and their skeleton could be used in this manner. But that has long since no longer been the practice.

Basically what I’m saying is that Jefferson County Middle School had an illegal human cadaver this whole time (hopefully without their willful knowledge of said fact) of a guy who didn’t die long enough ago for his skeleton to have been a legitimate donation of a cadaver to a medical institution

(who wouldn’t have been able to legally give said skeleton to anything other than another medical institution, so he had no business winding up in a middle school)

So there have been a few felonies that have been uncovered by the fact that we’ve got confirmation of these facts via Chronological De-ageing.

Not to mention we now know they could restore life with this technology!

I STARTED DISSECTING A HUMAN BODY TODAY

At 7 weeks into school we’ve had our first anatomy lab dissection finally happen! By now it had been all hyped up and all I could think about it was DO NOT FAINT!

Guess what? I didn’t faint!! At first i could not dissect - my group members started the dissection. But I eased into it. I tried a little bit and then a bit more and then I was good. I reminded myself to think about how humbled I am to receive an opportunity to learn in this way. I am grateful to the donors who donated their bodies to science for my education. To get a deeper look into the human body is an amazing experience already

Back to the lab:

We, by no means, knew what we were doing.

We were scared that we were going to cut to far ( and we did a number of times) and we didn’t know if anything we were doing was right but we called over the teachers and TAs plenty of times. “ Is that a nerve?” “ What does an artery look like?” “ Do we keep cutting?” We started dissection with the superficial back muscles and identified the trapezius and latissimus dorsi and a few more. That’s the Lats and the Traps for all of you hard core work out people!

It is all a learning process and I am excited to see how my anatomy lab journey goes!! :D

One Girl and Two Boys - part 9

Bucky Barnes x Reader x Steve Rogers

Summary: Reader is dating Steve until he gets hit during a mission. Slowly, Reader and Bucky will get to know each other better and transform their friendship into something else.

Word Count: 1,781

A/N: Okay, I feel like it took me seven years to write this one. I really hope you will like it :) (I don’t own the gif.)

[Part 1] [Part 2] [Part 3] [Part 4] [Part 5] [Part 6] [Part 7] [Part 8]

“Okay, I’ll tell you everything.” Steve nodded.

You took a seat on the long sofa, Bucky sat next to you and put a gentle hand at the small of your back. Steve sat down on the opposite sofa, he cleared his throat before he began.

“I only know what Natasha and Sam told me. They said you stayed with me even after the serum wore out.” He raised his gaze to meet yours. “You saw me the way I used to be.”

You nodded slowly, your mind threatening to relive the painful moment you lost Steve. All the muscles in your body were rigid as you anxiously waited for him to continue.

“According to Ross, Erskine’s serum is their most valuable asset. Their last chance at recreating a formula would die with me. It doesn’t help that I signed legal documents donating my body to science.”

ShAmy : The “Best OTP ever” Progression
—

Sheldon: Aren’t you slicing that man’s brain a little too thin?

Amy: It’s too thin if I were making a foot-long brain sandwich at Quiznos. For examination under a two-photon microscope, it’s fine.

Sheldon: Well, you’re the expert. If the correct way to do it is the wrong way, then I yield.

Amy: Very well. If you die and donate your body to science, I promise to slice your brain like Canadian bacon.

Sheldon: Thank you.

Amy: Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to take my temperature.

Sheldon: Are you monitoring your circadian rhythms in order to identify your periods of maximum mental acuity? I did that one summer. Ah, youth.

Amy: No, I experienced some distressing symptoms last night, so I’m checking my vital signs every hour.

Sheldon: I’d be happy to create a chart and participate in a differential diagnosis.

Amy: Oh, that sounds like fun.

Sheldon: All right. What were the symptoms?

Amy: Elevated heart rate, moist palms, dry mouth and localized vascular throbbing.

Sheldon: Localized to what region?

Amy: Ears and genitalia.

Sheldon: Interesting. Not body parts that usually team up. What about environmental factors? Describe the scene for me.

Amy: I was sitting in a restaurant with Penny and Bernadette, drinking water, carbonated as it was a special occasion. Penny’s friend Zack stopped by and said hello and I said hoo.

Sheldon: Who?

Amy: Zack.

Sheldon: Then why did you ask?

Amy: Ask what?

Sheldon: Who.

Amy: Zack.

Sheldon: All right, let’s start over. What did you say when Zack walked in?

Amy: Hoo.

Sheldon: Zack.

Amy: Why do you keep saying Zack?

Sheldon: Because you keep saying who.

Amy: I’m not saying hoo now. I said hoo last night.

Sheldon: And the answer was Zack, correct?

Amy: There was no question. I simply said hoo.

Sheldon: All right, I think I have enough to go on. Possible explanations for your symptoms are, in descending order of likelihood, hyperthyroidism, premature menopause, hosting an alien parasite or, and I only include it for the sake of covering absolutely all bases, sexual arousal.

Amy: Where would I have picked up an alien parasite?

Maybe that was why: you only get the one miracle.

Sherlock. 34k. John/Sherlock. Past John/Mary. Post-TSoT-AU. Not HLV-Compliant. Stillbirth. Grief. Angst. Hurt/Comfort. Friends to Lovers. Explicit.

John returns to Baker Street after the birth of his stillborn daughter and Mary’s departure. And this is the story of how he and Sherlock struggle through grief, regrets, guilt, hurt and misunderstandings towards love and acceptance.

It’s the small things that tug on your heart, like the way Sherlock’s empty grave becomes the memorial place for John’s nameless daughter whose body was donated to science, like the various bouquets of flowers finding their way there, like Sherlock grieving right along with John, like the stuffed bumblebee Sherlock had wanted to give to John’s daughter, like the little mementos of her existence finding their way back to John. John never saw his daughter alive, but still she’s a part of his life, not to be locked away. And that is beautifully done here.

Just as beautiful as John and Sherlock’s romance, Sherlock denying John’s advances for fear that he’s just the consolation prize after Mary’s gone, his being damaged by his time away just as much in body as in spirit and the slow realization in both that something they’ve both wanted for so long (but denied themselves) could be within their grasps.

Overall, a very thoughtful story that hits just the right buttons. Thumbs-up

When I realized how few of my peers have advance directives and just how many people aren’t honored how they want to be after death, going through the process of becoming a notary seemed important. For example, if you were unable to speak for yourself, what would you want people to know about your wishes? Are there people you wouldn’t want to visit? Would you want to opt for quantity or quality of life? How do you define quality of life? Is artificial nutrition OK? What about respiration? Who should decide which care providers should be hired or fired?

For those who are concerned that they may be held in short term or long term psychiatric care, what are their standards? CA disability groups have very specific forms about that and their rules. Getting things down in writing early allows for more of a say about how emergency inpatient psychiatric holds should be processed. For example, someone could specify they NEVER want ECT to be used, or could create a preference for restraints, isolation, medical intervention. If medical intervention is to be utilized, which meds and what method of delivery?

Only 7% of people 18-29 will create an advance medical directive. This means the next of kin will make decisions. This can mean misgendering or opting for plans that don’t honor someone’s preferences. Of all adults 18-100+ only about a quarter will have this paperwork prepared. It’s important to remember you can change your mind any time! If someone seemed like a good advocate in the past and you decide otherwise, update it!

I have designated who is to be my decision maker. I even wrote that should it not interfere with my care I wish for red lipstick to be applied, largely so that my healthcare agent and partner has a concrete of tending to me. I have recorded my pain management preferences, desire to die at home if treatment options aren’t available, and what I consider to be an acceptable quality of life. I have also determined what my organ donation and final disposition preferences are, which, after research aren’t what I expected. I always thought donating my body to science would be my preference but I personally feel that an accountability process is not sufficiently in place and really want a green burial rather than cremation.

Thinking about this is hard. I reviewed both the CA Disability medical directive form and the very popular 5 Wishes form and created my own template. I don’t expect that I should ever be committed to psych care but this form was incredibly thorough and I’d rather be prepared for a situation in which the state decided I could not speak for myself due to psychiatric illness or dementia by getting things down in writing now when everything is alright.

Planning for these situations is ultimately about consent and self-determination. For those of us facing illness or old age, there is time to prepare. I do not expect to die any time soon. I’m in great physical and mental health. But, I could be in an accident or face unexpected illness or injury. I want my wishes to be known and respected. I’ve even thought about certain forgivenesses I wish to grant and ask, along with strong boundaries for others who may come calling, so that my agent knows what to say to certain individuals.

Social media is going to be a big part. Would you want your condition announced online or kept private? Do you want your accounts managed or closed? I remember visiting “my death space” when MySpace was a thing. Some accounts stagnated, others had notices, and some were closed outright.

This isn’t about being goth or morbid. Again, it’s about consent and self determination. It’s also about love. It’s hard enough to grieve but it’s harder to grieve without a roadmap. We all do better when we know we’re acting in accordance with someone’s wishes. If tragedy strikes tomorrow I want my loved ones to be comforted by knowing how to honor my body and my memory. I’m hoping I can inspire more of my peers to consider this and have a legally recognized document that protects them.

Although only a few states require a notary, virtually all will accept a notarized advanced directive. This is one way I can get a conversation started and protect the legal interests of anyone who approaches me.

We all deserve to be heard, even if we cannot speak.

Hahaha *shoves crab rangoon in my mouth*

I was watching something on the news about a service that the university hospital does for people that donate their bodies to science. Some of you might remember that my grandmother did this a few years ago when she died.

Me: I don’t understand. Would there have been a ceremony for grandma?

Auntmurble: not that one but yes. Didn’t your dad tell you the story about the service?

Me: we need to stop talking about this immediately *shoves crab rangoon in my mouth*
