Favourite Movies: 03 | ?? » Fantaghirò I - Part 1 (Part 2)
My favourite fairytale movie series!!! Where the princess unknowingly wins the enemy prince’s heart, disguises herself as a man to fight for her kindom, defeats said prince in battle and eventually becomes King Queen. A love story, where the princess is the hero.
I’ve finally found a place to dl the bluray versions (I’ve been looking for what feels like forever, because the DVD quality is pretty bad :/), so I’ve spent the weekend watching all 5 movies :D
I received this yesterday and pretty much it’s what’s been shown on the site - the extras are paper goods pretty much though they are very nice quality. Immediately as you open the box, you notice there’s the two cases with the dvd and bluray versions of ajin and also volume 1 of the manga with a special edition cover drawn by Sakurai. Also, when you take these out, there’s an episode guide nestled in there as well.
The DVDs/Blurays are pretty standard and to-the-point containing the show with its language options and your clean opening and closing animation with trailers for Sentais other works. Both boxes contain the 1st movie as well so you get dvd and bluray…. I haven’t looked at the bluray yet but I mean it’s pretty standard. Oh also a real true extra here are the animatics.
For a fan, I think, the meat and potatoes of a special edition are it’s extras and well i guess it’s like kinda all right? The cards and poster are neatly printed but a lot of it doesn’t interest me personally since i’m more interested in team satous side of things ehehe
The most entertaining thing is the write-ups of the summaries though ahaha this one is my fav
All in all, it’s nice quality but like it could be so much more especially compared to Sentais other boxsets. Although the OADs (and maybe the drama cds) were packaged with the manga in japan (so the licensing issues might be a bit more complex), I think I’d rather have the energy put into obtaining that or the commentaries (these exist maybe? i’ll have to double check) instead of the SE manga volume, pretty as it is… If not this then maybe a booklet similar to the one they had in the JP release with the character height chart and the character model sheets?
Pure speculation here but to me, this boxset feels kinda general and made to please the widest audience I guess because a good number of people have seen Ajin compared to a lot Sentais other anime with boxsets because of its availability on Netflix. Because of this, less was put into this boxset because maybe they’re printing more units while uhh boxsets for more niche properties can afford to be more lavish because of limited printing?
More speculation here but maybe those nicer boxsets were assembled by genuine fans of the show? I’m sure ppl at Sentai enjoyed Ajin but like idk I’m not feeling the love in this one I guess? I mean compare it with Umaru-chan boxset yall.
Anyway, it’s a nice release for a person who likes Ajin but for a huge fan like me it was kind of a let down because i know what coulda possibly been?
Btw there’s a big fat 1 on a side of this boxset so there’s a second part coming. Here’s hoping for more Satou goodies. 🤞
Anime in general have dimmed scenes when it is “too flashy”. 2 decades ago, Pokemon had a scene involving Porygon with flashing lights that caused seizures to hundreds of kids. Ever since then Japan TV laws has this thing where it’s mandatory to dim scenes for being too flashy.
For BNHA the most common scene where you’ll see this is the opening intro. You’ll see parts where it’s darker than what it should’ve been.
Here’s an example from Episode 23 since it’s the new big thing right now:
The left one is how it was aired on TV (and Funimation/Crunchyroll). The right one is manually edited to the correct brightness.
Here’s video links of this scene so you can see the difference for yourself:
Of course, since this is specific for TV airing, the DVD or BluRay versions has no dimming. It also becomes an incentive for fans to buy the discs since they’ll be able to watch it in the correct brightness.
Oddly, though, I haven’t been able to find a single DVD/Bluray version of YoI’s anime online, torrent or not - so I’m hesitant whether this one will see an online version either, given that it’s not broadcast on TV. Here’s hoping, though~
Well, people are becoming more protective or franchises, and not easily sharing what costed them a few hundred dollars, which is completely reasonable lol This doesn’t mean that eventually, a fansub team won’t get their hands on the BD/DVD version and release them subbed
As for Stages/Lives, since they don’t air on tv, the chances they’ll be found online soon after the DVD release is actually high lol Idk about subs (I’ve seen lives subbed after a whole year), but we’ll probably find them!
Once again, I enourage supporting the YoI franchise economically as much as you can! I’m dying to see the BD/DVDs contents myself, and the YoI Stage, but I’m poor as fuck and indebted as hell, so I also depend on piracy LOL But meanwhile, everyone’s reports keeps me alive!
