Do You Know What That’s Worth - A WidowTracer Fan Fiction

She awoke from the darkness.

Soft sand caressed her lower body. Tiny toes dug into the sand as water washed over them. The warmth of a etherial sun was the next thing she sensed. Eyes closed she turned her face upwards, absorbing what the sun offered her while her lower legs combined the sun’s warmth with the soft waves of water. She held no sense of who she was. How she came to suddenly exist in this location was unknown to her.

Lucky Penny Comic Process - process gif from thumbnails to final tones

Some people have been asking about this so I wanted to oblige!  My work process for Lucky Penny was kinda unnecessarily (embarrassingly) multi-stepped — by the end I got so fed up with my lightbox setup I started pencilling 100% digitally, but that was only the last maybe 60 pages or so.  I’m gonna give a shot at 100% digital for my next project and hope for the best!!

The pencils would be scanned, digitally fiddled with, then printed in a very pale blue — paler than the blue in the gif, actually.  Then I’d ink the page with a brush (Windsor & Newton Series 7 size 2 brush, Dr. Ph Martin’s Bombay Black, some assorted pens for borders and fill). When scanning the inked page, the printed blue lines are pale enough that they’re ignored by the scanner.

The way I toned Penny was a holdover from how I tone Johnny Wander; three separated shades of grey: 10%, 30%, 50%.  (They didn’t have to be separated for Penny, but they do for Johnny Wander because of the way I produce halftoning.)  I like the warm real media look textures give my digital art, so I have this gigantic homemade texture file that I’ll paste in as an overlay layer over the tones once everything is done.  And hey, it’s a page!

If you want to pick up the Lucky Penny book, the Kickstarter has ONE DAY LEFT!!  Thank you, thank you so much for your guys’ support.  I really hope you enjoy the book!

Happy New Year! Hope everyone had a great holiday week and are already making the best of 2014! I am excited to announce, I’ve completed 3 new collections of work that I’ll be sharing over the next few days! First up - MARYLAND. Created some new designs using the Maryland flag, typography and crabs. Got Crabs? (I hope not).

Not Sick: Chapter 2

“I have to protect Riley,”
“You’re so busy protecting her, who’s going to protect you?”

In which Maya is sick, but still a part of the Riley Protection Squad.
*AU: Set in the future. Lucas, Maya, Farkle, Riley, and Zay are all in college.
***Contains Lucaya, Friendship!Zarkle (that’s their ship name, right?), Jealous!Farkle, Riley is only mentioned here.

Tick tock. Tick tock. Sniff sniff. Thud. Thud. Tick—Sniff—Tock.

Lucas stared down at his lap, twirling a pen between the fingers of his hands. In his lap he had both an anthropology text book and a notebook, various highlighted text and notes scribbled on blue printed lines. He and his little blonde study buddy Maya, who was stationed laying on her bed, stomach down and legs crossed in the air behind her, had an anthropology mid term coming up and although he had paid attention in class he wasn’t confident that he would get a passing grade.

The same was not to say for Maya Hart. She was currently balancing a purple pen on her upper lip, forcing her eyes to cross. She, too, had her anthropology book and a notebook open. Contrary to Lucas’ abundance of notes, there were barely three lines written out with lots and lots of highlights in her text.

“Uh. Maya, why do you just highlight nearly everything in the book?” Lucas shifted on his spot on the floor, facing Maya’s bed. This is where she lost her concentration and the pen fell from between her upper lip and nose. It hit the near empty notebook with a small thud.

Zay, who had visited their college campus for the weekend as he often did, peered over to Maya’s text book. “Oh. Luke, the more you highlight, the more it looks like you’ve read. When really, you haven’t read past the first line of every chapter!” As if proud of himself and his two cents he had to offer, Zay sat back on a green beanbag chair across from the two.

“Gotta point, Babineux.” Maya extended out a hand, pointing her pen at Zay, “And that’s how it started,” You could almost hear Lucas sigh in relief, “but then I started to actually read this hunk of buh-log-na and I started to highlight everything I didn’t understand.” The blonde girl moved on her bed to sit up and lift her textbook only to drop it back down on her bed for dramatic effect. “And I don’t understand any of it!”

As if on cue, a bowl-cut looking fellow opened the door to her dorm room with a huge grin on his face. “And that’s why I’m here! And you know it’s pronounced Buh-loh-nee, not Buh-log-nuh, right Maya?”

“Oh, Farkle, thank God.” Both Lucas and Maya spoke with relief.

“Yeah yeah, tell me how I’m your almighty Ruler and Savior of your world.” Farkle sat at the desk chair and let his backpack slip off onto the ground. He opened it and tossed Maya a box of tissues. “For you, M’lady. As you requested.”

Maya caught the blue box and tore it open, immediately blowing her nose.

“Eugh,” Zay spewed out in disgust. “Come on. I visit to spend some time with some of my favorite people and you guys have to study? And you’re sick?!”

While blowing her nose, Maya was able to get out an, “Am not!” Shortly after she tossed the two used tissues into the garbage bin.

“Are too!” Zay leaned back in the bean bag chair and grabbed the football he had brought over and began tossing it in the air and catching it repeatedly just as he had done when they were studying quietly.

If I Were You

For a kink meme prompt requesting Kisumi flirting with Ai and making Rin grumpy.

Rin wasn’t sure if Kisumi was lucky or just terribly devious. He’d actually been glad to see him again, until they met by chance while Rin was taking Ai shopping for trinkets to send home to his younger brothers and Kisumi had turned his fox-like eyes and sly smile on unsuspecting Ai. Previously, he’d rolled his eyes at Haru’s constant distaste for Kisumi; the way he tensed and glanced at Makoto whenever he was mentioned. Kisumi was likable, easy-going, and Rin was quite suddenly noticing how affectionate he could be.

“So, Nitori-kun how old are your brothers?” He was veritably purring at Ai, leaning a little closer than maybe he should, smiling wide and sweet. Ai’s cheeks were just as pink as Kisumi’s hair and Rin was struggling with the way that made anger swell up suddenly in his stomach.

6x05 - Street Rats ~ When speculation goes wrong!

I’m still recovering from this episode. It’s like a hangover and not the good kind.

I had high expectations for this. It’s an episode that I was looking forward to since the title for it was released, and it did not meet my expectations (because I only speak for myself here).

Besides being dissatisfied with the episode, it’s one of those that left me with a lot of questions.

As always, everything on here is a personal opinion, speculations are subject to change with new information, to be taken with a grain or a truck of salt, and so on, and so forth.

I don’t even know where to start to be perfectly honest. I might add other things to this during the week. This is probably all over the place.

Digital rough and final traditional colors with inks and markers of MJ Parker (Spidey’s wife).  I sketched it out digitally on my Cintiq, then made the sketch very light blue lines, printed it onto animation paper (just because its good to ink on), then inked it with Kuretake brush pens and colored it with Prismacolor and Copic markers.   The inking and color was about an hour, not too much thinking involved.
