Style by Nohea

Read our Q&A with the Arizona blogger who aims to inspire

Nohealani Cutting, who goes by Nohea, didn’t set out to become a full-time fashion blogger. The 23-year-old from Scottsdale, Arizona studied business in school, but realized later that the corporate world wasn’t for her. With an arsenal of fashion knowledge under her belt coupled with a natural sense of style, she created Style by Nohea, a blog where she shares her daily outfits, along with advice about beauty, lifestyle, travel and everything in between. Nohea aims to inspire others through blogging and help women become their best selves, goals that seem to be coming to fruition  - she has over 9,000 followers on Instagram and contributes to platforms like Lucky Magazine’s blogger community regularly.

We talked to Nohea about her style influences, blogging routine, the best advice she’s been given and more. Read our Q&A with the budding blogger below.

1. What inspired you to start your own blog?

I get asked for fashion advice 24/7, from family, friends, complete strangers! I decided to share my fashion advice by starting a blog for people all across the world to read-not just people who knew me.

2. Who or what influences your style?

Literally anything and everything. I love looking at clothing ads and other bloggers for inspiration, but I am also influenced by pop culture and music. I love to mix and match styles from everything that I’m inspired by, which is reflected in my blog.

3. What’s your daily blogging routine?

I have a whole checklist that I run through, which includes pinning images from my blog, posting to my Facebook/Twitter/Instagram, reaching out to a few brands per day, and commenting on other blogs. After all that is done, I will work on my next blog post - taking and editing photos, writing, linking, and scheduling my e-mail blasts and social media posts.

4. What’s the greatest advice you’ve ever been given?

It wasn’t meant to be blog-related, but my dad recently told me something that his dad told him. He said, “Nohea, you are the number one person in your life and you need to do what makes you happy. You are the only person who is guaranteed to not let you down.” This really helped me be completely self-reliant, which was a huge factor in my taking my blog to the next level. It inspired me to always be true to myself and not give other people’s opinions a second thought. This advice contributed to my blog’s success in a major way!

5. What are your go-to brands?

Zara and Topshop have great statement pieces that make for good blog posts, and denim in general! Seriously, when in doubt, I just choose denim.

6. What 3 things are on your wish list this season?

I’ve been dying for a backpack, and I’ve had my eye on this Alexander Wang:

Marti Soft-Wash Lambskin Backpack, Black

I know it’s been done, but I’m still loving the transparent heels:

pointed pumps

A simple, classic midi dress that I can dress up or down:

7. What trend would you never try?

I would personally never try Birkenstocks because I am 5’2” and don’t look my best in flats!!! I also have a very feminine and edgy style, and boho/hipster looks don’t work on my body type or with my style preferences.

8. Do you have any exciting projects coming up?

I will be working with a new custom clothing startup company this month! It’s an amazing service that makes completely customizable garments for women. I love that I’m working with a startup because I can say that I helped contribute to their success. Stay tuned!

9. What are your long-term goals for your blog?

I would definitely like to be a well-known blogger that works with higher-end global brands. I would also like to partner with brands to create my own mini line, such as jewelry, t-shirts, etc.

10. Do you have any tips for aspiring bloggers?

Be smart! Do your research and learn something new every day. There is always something to be learned, especially in the internet world. The road to success is littered with people who weren’t smart enough to keep learning - don’t be one of them!

Impossibly Imperfect

Meet the fashion and lifestyle blogger who embraces imperfections

Ashley Nelson’s blog Impossibly Imperfect has a fashion focus, but it’s much more than just a platform for sharing her style. Between her outfit photos, the Texas-native-turned-Manhattan-resident shares recipes and inspiring links, and writes about lifestyle, travel and cool, lesser-known brands. In true city style form, she mixes high and low pieces in rich colors and modern styles, and balances current trends with simple staples. We love seeing how she gives her own personal touch to must-have pieces like the bucket bag backpack and cropped top, adding an interesting necklace or statement shoe for a truly individual look.

As cliché as it might be, my mother has had a role in influencing my style from day one. She has a background in fashion and has always encouraged me to wear what I feel most confident in and what reflects who I am.
