Glimpsed Jaimee through the window of the cafe at Powell’s and had to run out and catch her. Originally from Maryland, she is in school at OHSU. It turns out she’ll be the very first Black Behavioural Neuroscience Ph.D. graduate from OHSU. She has several more years in her program, but I believe this is worth sharing.
Walked around Ladd’s Addition with Ashley today. A dancer and creative, she grew up in the Milwaukie area. We talked about things.. creativity, what it can be like to be young and black/brown in PDX, her experience growing up mixed in PDX, and the ongoing quest-ion of finding other young brown people in this city.. and what we can and are creating now.
Chill Will Guitarist, Vocalist, Songwriter Portlander for 13 years.. originally from Atlanta
I was already hoping to set up a time to shoot Chill Will .. when I ran into him on 12th and Washington last Saturday. Apparently Will was about to pack up when the other fellow above requested one more song. I caught him just in time. Chill Will is often downtown playing across from Powell’s or by the food carts.. or anywhere downtown. Catch him!
“We are always at a park, even in the rain” I met these two really cool ladies at Alberta Park. They were on the merry-go-round when I asked to photograph them. Mother and daughter, Shannalynn is originally from Arkansas while Sherice grew up PDX. Mad positive ladies. Great to meet them.
The bus can be a great place to appreciate people. I saw this young man on the bus, hat high atop his head.. not snug fitted. There was another fellow - also fresh - beside him with a sharp high top fade and black glasses. Both made room when an older woman came on the bus.. always an endearing move. The other did not get off at my stop, but I was able to catch Paz.
