BlaQ History Day 1: Abolitionist and Poet Frances E.W. Harper. Harper’s articles and poetry was published in so many newspapers (remember, in the 1800’s!!!!) that she became known as the “Mother of Black Journalism” She famously blurred the line between identifying as a lesbian and bisexual woman well before we had a fancy academic spectrum for sexuality. Harper was a founding member of the National Association of Colored Women and actively helped Blacks escape slavery. She published her first book at the age of 67…its never to late to live your truth!!!
